Good Game
Gut durchdacht, tolles System,, vorallem muss man mitdenken^^.
mfG Poo (Yes, wfG the POO)
Absolut genial!
Eine Rogue-like Zeitreise ins alte Rom.
Ive been waiting for a proper Gladiator fighting game since Shadow of Rome on ps2..
this game here is quite good for Early Access .. played for about 2,5 Hours and didnt had one bug...
Only thing that "bothers" me is that the Controller support isnt available yet.. but the dev will add this soon
The Game is Awesome but I think the punishment is way to hard. When you die you lose almost everything you acomplished. This kinda sucks, but also makes the difference to other games. The fighting System ist good balanced and Training realy makes a big difference. Good Game for everybody who is bored by to easy games.
Good Job my fellow 9GAG'er! :)
Great game. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a single dev early access game.
But definately not this surprisingly polished and rather pretty arena brawler. It's a lot of fun and strangely addictive. Could do with some physics tweaking in futurte updates. But overall a really great game!
Ave Imperator, morituri te salutant!
Directly from the start you get that Romelike-Gladiator-Feeling. You see kneeling slaves, merchants and guards and you know, shit is going to be real.
I nearly played an hour and i have to say wow! So many things done right!
The rotation of that sliced head in slow motion, simply stunning!
And this is a One-Man Projekt...holy moly!!!
When death came for me i was sad. Crushed. Dead.
All my plans...denied, shattered, forever gone.
But now i will lead that new Aspirant Brutus to eternal glory. And gold, and
other riches.
And then i will build my own Theme-Park. With Blackjack and Hookers!
Highly recommended!!! Do it!!! Blood for the Blood-God!!!
9gag brought me here! Damn you all!
I'ma write this review after roughly 10 hours of playing and i can just say, this is one of the best Roguelikes/-lites i have played so far.
First of all this is still Early Access, i bought this game the day it released and i'm just bound to my screen everytime i start playing. This Game is made by a single developer, tho updates might come somewhat slower, the work done here is nothing short of incredible. Rarely do you see so much love put into a game by bigger studios, this is a passion project, and nothing less.
To get to the gameplay. The Gameplay has a loop. 1: you being in the main screen, able to choose what to do like training, bribing hosts, repairing, healing, buying weapons and armor, choosing fights. It actually has some neat mechanics that can help you out, some options more (like training individual skills (small tip, go for your main weapon and stamina as a beginner, helps lots)) and others less (bribing for reputation, or exchanging currencies). Tho take this all with a grain of salt, i'm still trying about and am everything but good at the game.
2: the active part are the actual fights. It has a combat system that's physics based, a bit like mount and blade, but also a bit more wonky. I'm not gonna lie the combat *is* clunky, but not to a point where it's not fun. You'll need to get used to it for sure, but there is definitely fun to be had once you get it down somewhat. Nothing feels better than beating someone with spear and shield when you play without a shield (damn those spear/shield abusers). Everything is based on stats, the more stamina, the more the combat flows. More movement speed for better distance building, more weapon skill for swinging speed and so on. There are different ways, turtling works, berserking works, being fleetfooted with a sword and little armor works. All down to how well you perform, this is hardly luck-based at all.
Only thing about fighting that is very wonky to me, but i also haven't played around with alot, is throwing weapons. It works definitely, but it is something you'll have to invest time into. Tho in the newly released tutorial video the Creator does a good job of demonstrating it.
All in all i can only say this game is absolutely great and i am hyped for more to come, i might update this review in the future. This game is a blessing of an indie game on a market full of games created without passion, i will continue to recommend and support this project, this is nothing short of awesome.
And to the Dev himself, even tho highly unlikely you'll read it, kudos to you. My deepest respects in all honesty, doing all this as a solo dev? You, my man, are insane. Keep up the good work!
Come getta, Zarleys out.
To be honest, the game idea is pretty cool, but for now its way to hard to play for me. If you guys like to keep loosing for hours, no matter what you do, this is your game. The biggest problem is that any enemy just keeps bugging half way into you. No way to defend here. Also it is nearly impossible to win any fights with something else than with a shield. Also there is just one way to get good start equipment, wich is to keep skiping one charackter after another. This actually takes more time than you will stay alive. I hope those things get fixed.
Beat the game after 7 hours or so. It was quite fun and is definetly interesting with regards to the fight mechanics. BUT: After beating the game I do not feel the urge to play anymore. I would love to train up a group of Gladiators in a Ludus like in Domina. I hope Jordy will extend the game or implement some system that keeps me playing (achievements, unlocks of permanent perks, super weapons, super human gladiators). Also the betting system could be much more interesting. I would love just to bet on fights that I do not participate in.
Such a good game.
Combat similar to M&B still more versatile since it's based on physics, Weaponswingspeed, angles etc.
i like it a lot. It gets you hooked quite fast.
After around 20 hours i had it cleared more then once with all Characters,
Still looking for some more time in the Arena in the future. ;-)
Good thing is you can choose your difficulty, either Commoner, Gladiator with or without steady progression.
You can observe your own steady progression of skills with every new character.
For a "one man Dev-team" a rly good job.
+He is working with the community to get things better.
+A lot of love for the Arenas and the Environment
+Haven't encounters many bugs, possibility to report it straight away in game.
+Just one crash after a battle and everything was still at the same point, so no losses.
-Movement of the Chars is a little rough, and feels clunky sometimes.
-Would love some more playable Character options.
-Would like more item choices(Weapons, Shields, Armor, etc.)
Def. needs a possibility to invest a certain Amount of Gold into your next Character,
instead of just 1000 at a time. A lot of clicking otherwise ^^
Easy to learn, hard to master ist im ganzen Spiel umgesetzt
Umsetzung bisher: 6/10
Was mir persönlich sehr gefallen würde:
Introduction
Let the games begin. My Review after 15 hours of DEMO-gameplay and a lot of dead gladiators :) A solo developer creates a gladiator game that many have been waiting for. Finally the blood can flow into the sand of the arena again without having to fight fictitious monsters. The game has decent graphics, a unique physical combat system that plays well after some practice. Anything you want to invest or unlock costs fame or gold. I will now explain the contents of the game.
Arena and Battles
First one of the most important core elements. The arena and fighting. You have to learn to fight because it involves a surprisingly good working physical system. That's exactly what motivates the player and it's always fun. The weapon types give different gaming experience and good variety. The fight has a very good damage system. You can see the blood splattering and the damage done to the gladiators' bodies. When you hit metal you see sparks. When enough damage is done, the armor is destroyed. Weapons can break, helmets can be knocked off the head, body parts can be severed. Arena battles can take place during the day or at night.
The animations are well done and it brings a realistic atmosphere to the arena. You can launch attacks of different heights. This can be done from above, below and from the side. There is also the possibility to perform stitches or throw the weapon. You have to focus the enemy weapon to block attacks. The whole thing is reinforced by appropriate sound effects. The representation of the Arenas is good. There are also different variations of the arenas.
As the gladiator fights for his life, the plebs cheers him on. Weapons are thrown into the arena. The way you fight determines a popularity multiplier and can increase your fame. The crowd is watching you closely and reacting to it. Items can be thrown at all glads if the actions are not popular. It could be more spectacular arenas like the colosseum but that's just my opinion.
Backgrounds
There are different backgrounds with unique benefits and traits. Each background has different stats, abilities, gold, fame and unlocked combat options. Multiple backgrounds can be played through. There are legacies -- when you win a backstory you get a permanent impactful bonus to all characters. Other than that, you get several ways to transfer money and items to your next character after you die. This provides variety and motivation for the next run.
Shop and Equipment
In this point one can praise the developer. There are eight areas of the Gladiator that can be equipped with items. Shoulders, legs, head and body are intended for armor. The arms for shield and weapon.
The shop offers many different equipment with 3 unlockable slots to expand the offer. There is also an investable reroll and hold item option. Equipment is divided into classes with different statistics. There are gray, blue, green, purple, gold weapons and armor. You can also say from normal to legendary. There are countless ways to customize your character with different designed armor and weapons.
Career Management
An overview is well done here. You see different menus that explain themselves very well. There is a menu for stats, victories, background, training and upgrades, hire blacksmith and physican, relationships and possibility to bribes.
The training units require invested gold. Depending on the intensity of the training you have to buy more. After that you can train 2 different skills. You get the training bonus before the next fight.
You can unlock unique upgrades and just invest everything in your gladiator or in the next run. You can also invest in the type of items in the shop for the next week.
The career ends with the victory condition at some point, but only when you confirm do you get the permanent bonus. Otherwise you can keep playing as long as you survive, so until your blood and the sand become one ;)
Battle Menu
The battle menu offers a choice of different battle options. More can be unlocked. Every fight has a sponsor and you have a relationship with them. There are different conditions for each battle. Some offer advantages and others disadvantages.
Everything you could wish for is really here. For example 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, 1 vs many, many vs 1, many vs many, or groups vs groups and so on...There is a lvl reward for the type of battle and a general one. It's a kind of ranking system specially for the different combinations and arenas. More dangerous fights are indicated with several skulls.
Information about each battle can be unlocked to act tactically or strategically.
With enough information you can also see the opponents and their class. You can also place bets in several conditions here. This must be fulfilled during the fight. In some fights you have to go unarmed and in others you can loot weapons and shields after the fight. There are other things too, but I won't list them. That's really extremely motivating. There is also a reroll option that can be used for fame.
Rank, Events, Patriarchs
Each run is accompanied by a rank system. The gladiator increases in rank after successful victories. With each rank up you can choose from 2 rewards. These can be items, gold, fame, or improvement in statistics (stamina, health...)
The game also offers events. Events can have advantages or disadvantages. When an event appears, you can usually choose an answer from several dialogs. Some events are rewards. There are also events with patriarchs and every patriarch has special characteristics. If you fight well you will get a reward or something unlocked.
The patriarchs or sponsors have a positive or negative relationship and promote the different battles in the battle menu.
Result
The game is very well made for a single developer. Almost no bugs in my 15 hours of (DEMO) play. The game motivates with the large selection of equipment and weapons, a combat system that is always fun and many opportunities to invest your gold and fame in unlockable things.
Made with Love ːBEheartː A clear buy recommendation from me 10/10
