The Persian Gulf Map for DCS World focuses on the Strait of Hormuz, which is the strategic choke point between the oil-rich Persian Gulf and the rest of the world. Flanked by Iran to the North and western-supported UAE and Oman to the south, this has been one of the world’s most dangerous flash points for decades.

I'd argue this is the highest-value module available for DCS that I know of. It's cheaper than Syria, runs better and without a doubt has the swankier coastline. The scattered island bases encourage a very satisfying mix of maritime/coast/land combat, and the terrain is much more... dangerous than it's contemporary alternatives.

If there's anything to knock this map for, it's the low attention to detail outside of major cities and unforgiving mountainous terrain that chews up low-flying craft in limited vis environments. If you're looking for the next big map to fill out your collection, this one will probably make you giddy with excitement.

We are now at the end of the 23rd and this map needs a dramatic change in the quality of the terrain and terrain that looks like an old computer game and the buildings like children’s drawings. I am amazed at the high prices for these things that need to be updated in order to be worth their price.
Let me highlight the negatives of the map
1 The buildings appear to be drawings and appear completely unreal
2. The map is empty of life and has nothing of reality
3. Trees, grass, water, ships and cars are unrealistic
Map designers must look at realism because we pay a lot of money to get realistic shots, not like children's play.

With this dlc, you are paying the price of a high-definition game like a Forza or Spider-Man

I wish I could say it wasn't disappointing, but this map lacks more than it has. It seems like Dubai got all the attention, whereas places of huge strategic importance like Bushehr and US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain got no attention at all. In fact, the island of Bahrain isn't even on the map! Imagine having a map lacking an entire country and then charging $50 for it. Glad I got this one on sale. I'm Iranian-American and still find myself playing Syria more just because the PG map is so underpopulated and underwhelming.

Gorgeous Map focusing on the Strait of Hormuz. Mega-details, like Dubai traffic including the Duabi Police SuperCars, and catamaran off the beaches of the MEGAHOTELS.

Yes, a Bugatti Veyron is faster than my Hip-8, but not my AJ37 :)

Beautiful looking map. The cities are very detailed. A ton of hilly areas for fun dogfights. Only gripe is the price is just a tad too high in my opinion. I understand the high price tag for aircraft modules but for just a map is a little much. Nevertheless, it's good way to expand the game and add variety.

I find this map to be both beautiful and very high quality, not to mention the fact that it's very well optimized for a beta map. The desert never looked so beautiful. The only drawback is the price tag. But then again, DCS isn't really for people who plan to play for just a little bit. In my opinion, it's justified because I plan to drop a few hundred hours into this sim, and if you are like me, then this is a good investment. You can only spend so long in the caucasus.

This is a big map and a good map. Lots to see and lots to do. The terrain is good, the cities are very good,, and the lighting effects are excellent. Performance can be rough over the big cities, but that's to be expected.

The map isn't cheap, but it's Disneyworld for flying fun. Small airfields, big airfeilds, barren wasteland, yuuuuuge cites, lots of water, lots of mountains, you really get it all.

It's big, it's fun, and it looks great. Very happy with the purchase.

I hesitated a lot before buying it. I was not sure if buying a map only worth the price or not.
Well, it does!
It is so much different in every aspects from the Caucasus map, it feels like getting a whole new game!
I really hope one day we get a Vietnam map too! ;)

This is probably my favorite DCS map. Great for both operations over land and sea, geat for employing all sorts of hardware, and the perfect setting for multitude of diverse scenarios, both modern and Cold War era. The detail is amazing, and because most of the map is set over desert and sea, it's surprisingly resource efficient! You can crank up few more FPSs then over stock Georgian conflict zone we were used to in base game.
This module though really aches for more assets for Combined Arms, including fully controlable ships, since fleets should, given the circumstances, be main target for some platforms, and provide support on the other hand, depending on the setup. And so, I hope this fantastic release motivates some devs to produce more historic Cold-War machines :) Cheers!

A nice change up if you have been flying around the Caucases for awhile. Great potential for Naval/Air Combat Operations. Nice rugged terrain and Skyscrapers to test your piloting skills around. Excellent for ground engagements and training as the terrain is more open and enemy units are easier to spot. If your a fan of DCS and have are into the carrier based aircraft, the potential for modern real world type missions is excellent for this map. Flying in low level and seeing the city scape across the horizon made me realize the is a lot of urban landscape on this map as well.

I like it, it's the only middle east map in DCS ATM and was designed around a "what if" the 2012 Strait of Hormuz Iran/US dispute had turned 'hot'.

Flying between Dubai skyscrapers is a bit of a gimmick (pretty though they are) - the real 'meat' of the map is at high altitude with AAR, ingress, dog fights, etc. and the gulf and desert far below, as it's very reminicient of Gulf War, etc. photos.

Some airfields and desert terrain 'feel' empty but if you check real photo's, you'll see it's like that IRL - DCS is emptier (due to lack of fine detail) but looks to capture the correct 'feel'.

Whether it's worth it depends on how much you'll fly it or if friends also own it, I picked it up in a 40% off discount bundle (with the Hornet) and don't regret the purchase.

Thumbstick

Hands down my favorite map in the game, there is a cool trench on the west side of the map on the iranian side of the water, just south of their international airport. On the map it looks like a river, because there is one at the bottom of the trench.

Ground forces (armored vehicles) get stuck on impenetrable and un-crushable objects like small tree's and shrubs. Totally unplayable for ground forces.

What more can be said about the Persian Gulf map that hasn't already been said? Is it beautiful? Yes! Is it fun to fly? Yes! Is it immersive? Yes! Is it worth the money? Yes! If you love good scenery, great architecture, and an expansive real world environment, get this map! You will be very glad you did. I would absolutely recommend this map to everyone. It runs amazingly smooth for the incredible amount of detail. I agonized over the decision to buy for days. I read lots of reviews, and finally purchased it, when it went on sale for Easter. I have been buzzing the Burj Khalifa ever since. If you're like me, you want replayability in your module purchases. This map passes muster on that score. The Persian Gulf map has such a variety of terrains and infrastructure, it makes the possibilities of creating your own unique missions virtually unlimited. You won't even notice that pre-made missions are few. I created one called "Road of Death", which is a page out of history, depicting the Highway 80 A.K.A., "Highway of Death", scenario from the 1990 Gulf War. I even threw in a burning oil field that can be seen for miles. It's the single most realistic, (and coolest), mission I've ever created in a video game. I've just barely scratched the surface of what can be done. The potential for more fun and exciting missions is limited only by your imagination. So, if you're reading this review because you are considering whether or not to buy this map, let me help make the decision easier for you. Buy this map! If you own the F-18, buy this map, immediately! I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I do.

You can not spawn flankers (and the variants) on most of the Iranian airports (has something to do with FC3 aircrafts)
There are mods in place that allow admins to fit more aircrafts on the ramp but unfortunately this mod does not work for FC3 aircrafts.

Bushes and Shrubs block ground unit movement. this lags the servers a lot as ground unit AI have to find their way around bushes and shrubs instead of driving through them. A lot of the times I've got my tank stuck in a bush, gets really annoying when you're trying to quickly move into an enemy airfield.

The above issues haven't been fixed ever since the map came out.

I'd advise you to wait for the reviews of the upcoming Syrian map and buy that instead (if its good)

Great map, the overall boundaries are a little deceptive as though the edges extend all the way to western Iran, southeast Iraq, kuwait, saudi arabia, northern oman, these areas are very sparsely modeled, and there is definitely important things that could happen there. but in the areas that are properly modeled, there is great detail, well scaled (DCS sim-scaled not true 1:1 scale), good optimization, with varied levels of terrain type. mostly sandy and brown colored places (as these countries typically are) but lots of mountains, harbors, cities, inlets and variety to keep it feeling fresh.

The map focus is definitely on United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Southern Iran, and the big ol' piece of salt water between them. It makes for great carrier based naval battles, amphibious landings, urban warfare in the big cites (especially Dubai which is epic), and a million different scenarios involving Oil Rigs.

Overall I was suspicious of purchasing a map for an open world game since the Georgian map was pretty good and I felt the persian gulf price was a little high, but now i regret not getting it sooner because it has effectively doubled the content for the game. very happy with purchase.

Drops into the fifties over the big cities, otherwise its 70+.It looks beautiful ;very well done.
Expensive to buy,as are all DCS modules and terrain.Paid for with birthday money from my wife. Thanks Mayumi.
Hope for a sale so i can add an extra aircraft.
Forgot to mention the install is on ssd hd;think i read it stops stutters in some mission.Helps a bunch with loading times too.

Fantastic map, great detail, beautiful, makes for some great game play. Despite the incredible 10/10 quality of the map is, it is paid DLC. There are very few servers that run on the Persian gulf map and even less with an active player base outside of player organised events. For this reason the Persian Gulf map is very difficult to recommend for new players or anyone with a limited budget planning to play in multiplayer. If you just want a beautiful map to play some SP missions on, however, the Persian Gulf is perfect!

Beautiful map. The desert portions are a bit too similar to Nevada I suppose but at least you have plenty of naval area and some little islands which makes it feel different than Caucasus. I understand the complaint as to why it costs so much. That is definitely a lot of money to spend on just a map but money is a subjective thing anyway. Someone like me, I am more than willing to spend big money on a hobby I truly enjoy (well over a grand dumped into iRacing and hundreds into the IL2 Great Battles series plus close to another grand into the sim equipment I use for all these games). I think the map runs fairly smooth as well. It isn't as smooth running as the Nevada map but it mostly depends on time of day. I noticed later in the day as the sun goes down, the frames go down with it but it never truly drops low enough to be that noticeable. I think it is well worth it for the variety it adds to the game.

The map is made to look deceivingly huge but in fact only a very small part of it actually has any detail and objects. All the rest is empty. I don't recommend, it's definitely not worth its salty price tag.

BIGTRUCKSERIES…

Let me start off by saying: I have previously traveled to Dubai twice. I've been to the top of the Burj Khalifa, the Burj Al Arab, the Dubai Mall and the Emirates Mall. The city is beautiful and I would recognize right away if the map captured that beauty. This map, absolutely does capture the beauty of Dubai. There's plenty of things to do on this map considering there's water, desert and city. If you have F?A-18 Hornet you can take off and land on the carrier or the land - preferably DXB Airport...or you can fly downtown to Abu Dhabi. That's a really cool ability. The map looks fantastic. Unfortunately, DCS: World currently doesn't have the fidelity of MSFS 2020, but this game is far more fun to play since it's fighter v fighter combat.

This map is a must have DLC. Caucacus is boring and a bit confusing in ways this map (and Nevada) aren't thanks to recognizable landmarks. I also recommend you buy the F-16 and the F/A-18 as well as the Harrier if you haven't already.

Part of Persian Gulf*

A decent map which expands the game more.
It's a huge map, of course most of it is sea and desert but the main cities like Abu Dhabi or Dubai are well detailed. It's a joy to fly low over cities. But other than that you'll be seeing desert all over the place, empty, desolate desert with some targets stationed somewhere.
It also opens up the custom missions possibilities. Iran, UAE, Oman is a playground for potential military events to be created.
This map is also great for carrier ops so prepare your Hornets boys. Of course you can get your Tank Killer out of hangar and bomb some terrorists in a desert.

On graphical side it's decent. DCS runs on an old engine so don't expect miracles here or MSFS level graphics but the cities look really nice. Desert and mountains aren't so good. But it's a problem with all DCS maps. Sure those areas supposed to be bland in real life too but in DCS it lacks details, it looks pretty unrealistic, mountains especially.
There are some missions both freeware and payware. It's a nice change from Caucasus.

Is this worth buying? If you want to participate in conflicts in these areas sure it's worth it. But the asking price is too much for what it is. Outside cities there's nothing which means there wasn't much to model and there's nothing to justify the price. There also could be more countries, like you know Persian Gulf countries?

Pros

    • Cities are nice
    • Great for carrier ops

Cons

    • Mostly desert with no objects
    • Could include more cities/countries
    • Too expensive

I don't have Syria yet but I own all the other maps. This is the best of the paid maps. Spectacular varied terrain and a lot of possibilities for creating your own missions. I love flying aircraft on this map but was blown away when I took a UH-1 Huey up. Then I couldn't believe how much detail and eye candy was hidden everywhere.

My only criticism is that this map should have been called the Straits of Hormuz. That's really what you get. The northern two-thirds of the Persian Gulf isn't represented in any detail. Still, I think the amount of detail you do get is pretty amazing. Extra amazing if you fly helos.

All the maps are a bit pricy but the Persian Gulf has been out long enough that it goes on sale frequently. Well worth it at a sale price.

I previously thought this map was complete, but with the recent 2.7 upgrade I have been proven wrong, and it may not be quite complete even now. The map now is spectacular! Cities, towns industrial centers now look complete and are a joy to fly over. High tech buildings, massive train yards and shipping centers along with several levels of residential areas ranging from wealthy to the impoverished fill out the map nicely.
I could not find any performance issues.
Georgian map will need some work to keep up to this new standard.

Extremely good map, many recommend it due to the FPS being respectable, My only reservations are that really it would be nice to have Kuwaiti, Qatar and SA bases as the land mass is there. It's highly detailed and a potential hotspot part of the world. Options for U.S. Carriers, and includes Bases used by Allied Forces such as Al Minhad and Al Dhafra, so missions can be made semi realistically with the right aircraft. UAE also use Mirage and F-16, so if you have those it fits right in. Iran can field a few F-14s along with F-53-E Tiger II and MiG-21 historically.

This DLC has never worked for me and I have requested a refund twice via steam and they refused both. It uses all of my RAM before crashing (I have 128GB of ram and it goes beyond 100GB of ram usage before it crashes) and I have even allocated an additional 16GB to a page file. I have a 2080ti, running m.2s, etc. After a month I have given up. No other game / dlc in my life has given me so much hassle.

Do not buy this map. It is broken and they refuse to fix it and you will not get your money back.
