This DLC is AWFUL. You struggle to gain weapons, and start clearing your way towards the exit - only to get run over by one of the NPCs with complete inability to control a vehicle. Or you get ambushed by enemies and animals at the same time. Or the game mistakes running to the edge of a cliff to jump as using your wingsuit into a rock. Or any of a thousand other stupid ways of dying like you would in the regular game - only that now it strips all progress from you, and makes you start all over again. I couldn't even enjoy exploring the map. This game mode is miserable.

Recommending only for those who like listening to Pagan Min's batsh♥t insane ramblings, because he is comedy gold in this one. Step aside, "who lights all of those f♥cking candles?" cause now we've got "Daddy's belltower" 💀

To those who don't: I'd recommend it anyway, cause you're gonna need to practise for the FC6 DLCs. Because APPARENTLY, the devs didn't pay attention to the hundreds of people yelling about how this DLC had the sh♥ttiest grindfest poor man's Dark Souls lookin ass gameplay they've ever seen, and just decided that if they plopped our three favourite villains from the Far Cry Golden Age™ as the main characters, everyone would yank out their wallets like their pockets were on fire. (It worked on me ngl)

But I had fun? I think. Mostly I just simp for Troy Baker's voice.

I was shocked when I started up this DLC, first of all the title of the DLC is a flat out lie, you are not even in a prison. To top that off they added a timer to the game, who the heck plays an open world RPG with a timer, no one that's who. I feel really ripped off by this crud. They really got it wrong on this and didn't know how to read there player base. Absolutely do not buy this I do not recommend!

I can't play the DLC so I won't be reviewing that. Instead I'll review the complete ineptitude of the community managers over at Ubisoft Support. They are rude and more often than not just plain wrong. Go check out miisty x or whatever her name is posts. When asked for patch notes she spews out some unwarranted angst and then when presented with the error in her information, goes completely silent. Never is anything of worth ever offered on her behalf. Seriously ubisoft, get your shit together.

EDIT: 1/17/2015
So the DLC is out and it is pretty alright, nothing super gnarly but fun nonetheless so I will get a positive review since the DLC it's sell is a fun time. HOWEVER the earlier statements of how completely mismanaged Ubisoft is in their priorities stands. They never said why this delay occurred, that it was then available, or apologized about anything.

Garbage. Ubisoft is garbage. At least provide some kind of apology or statement acknowledging that you've f***ed up, and maybe we would have a little more patience. Terrible communication to the consumer. Fix this soon and I might change my review.

** UPDATED REVIEW 1-18-2015**

Either Steam or Ubi finally got their act together, and this DLC deployed and started working in-game.

I would say the $9.99 is a fair price for this DLC. It is a decent spin on Farcry 4. It can get old, real quick, without Coop. However, it can be a wait for a worthy Coop player to show up OR for the game's buggy matching system to not drop your connection. I highly recommend you look up firewall settings and open all the ports required. It was less glitchy with those ports enabled, but still I experience too many drops to say it is stress-free to get something going in Coop. Even so, I'd recommend you try this, if you like Farcry. You'll have some fun with it, until you finally grind your way into a successful escape.

Now, I'm maintaining my original rating of "Not Recommended," out of spite for the reasons stated in my original review below. I think Steam and Ubi deserve a rating that reflects the sum of my experiences, both in-game and beforehand. I am NOT happy about how this played out, before the release finally came through.

** ORIGINAL REVIEW 1-15-2015**

I had a very in-depth talk with Ubi tier 1 support tonight (I think Susanne was the name). A few things ...

1. Tier 1 support is telling steam users to reinstall the game to resolve the missing DLC issue. Of course, that procedure did not fix the problem. I told her that, and she mindlessly kept coming back to it.

2. I repeatedly asked Susanne to allow me to speak to a supervisor. She stated that it is not allowed. All I wanted to do was briefly express a need for Ubi to make a formal public statement of intent on the DLC issue (either declare a resolution in-the-works with some kind of time table OR declare a tested resolution). For a $90 game, customers deserve more direct and concrete information from Ubi. It is good customer service that can go a long way toward satisfaction and patience. Ubi could even promise steam users something free and upcoming, just as some consolation. Of course it costs them notthing to just make an honest annoucement, instead of leaving vested customers in the dark.

I'm not impressed with Ubi's poor communication to customers under these circumstances. Ubi leaves a very bad impression, just asking for it from the many customers that I've seen ... saying things like "Ubi doesn't care, since they already got their money." This is not the 1st time Ubi has demonstrated this behavior. It is apparent among different titles and different releases, just by scrolling back through Google archives of various forums and threads.

Perhaps some kind of legal action toward Ubi is due. There are options through class action, if not to simply get more serious attention from Ubi towards the types of issues described above. Ubi walks a very thin line as a see it, to where it is at least compelling for broad legal representation to consider possibilities. Yet, again, such consideration is not so compelling, if Ubi simply does a better job in its communication to customers (as described in my #2 point above).

Just my 2 cents for now, on top of my $90 already in Ubi's possession. Steam, also, shares in the burden of the lack of customer satisfaction. They are, by association, part of this problem by not pursuing accountability from Ubi on behalf of its customers.

[ML]_Boba
[ML]_Boba

Same problem here, I cannot access the DLC content and UBI support is far beyond terrible, a bunch of unhelpful, clueless guys who don't care less about their customers.
I believe Steam should also have a words or two with them and with us, their customers; I bought the product through them, I expect some sort action, seeing that so many people are experiencing the same issue.

Ok so i am one of the few peaple who actually got to play the dlc i gotta say i couldnt believe how glitchy it is the concept is not bad i only did the missions for the bonusses so i wasnt able to play the extraction yet but the whole thing is glitchy as fuk in co-op if you couldnt play this cause it doestn work go to far cry 4 in you games 2nd click properties dlc´s and activate the season pass if it is already on deactivate and activate.

Blackwolfe
Blackwolfe

Now that the DLC is actually working..

While a real, non-timed campaign would have been preferrable.. Escape From Durgesh Prison is still pretty nice. It challenges you in ways the main campaign does not (unless you stupidly intentionally gimp yourself) but still let's you build up your character with skills and weapons (that you keep even after you die or quit).

Collie
Collie

Ok first, if you are having problems getting the extra, you probably need to take your DLC activation code from steam and load it into Uplay. That is probably the problem you are having.

Second, this is fun, but it's very diffrent. They tried to give this more of a Far Cry 2 feel, not all the way but it's more tense, gear is more pressious, more repetitive, you have to re-do stuff constantly, and the repetitive leveling up system is a pain, but that's what makes it good. Far Cry 4 is like a big fun sand box that is there for your enjoyment. This mini-game is more tense, more stress full, and when you finaly master it, there is a whole diffrent kind of satisfaction.

For those of you who dont completly understand how it works, here it is.
You have 30 mins on a timer and no crafted equipment, guns or skills, except for your knife, grapling hook and a fully upgraded loot sack. You have to get to the FINAL FIGHT location before the time runs out. There are no stores.
You take down targets and do various tasks ,all of them taken from the main game like hostage chalanges and outposts, to add advantages to the final fight such as felow fighters, decreased bad guys, weapon bonuses ect. You hunt to craft eqipment, you gain experiance and skills, and you scavenge for weapons. The Big change is that when you die the board is clear and you go back to the starting point with 30 mins on the clock and no acomplishments, EXCEPT that you keep your experiance, skills and invintory WITH a full amo load on each gun that you were holding when you died.

All in all it's alot more chalenging than the normal game, and ALOT more repetitive. You will be doing the same chalenges over and over slowly leveling up to stand a chance of getting to the last fight let alone wining it. But when you do when you see the end, it's so very very sweet.

(The DLC needs to be activated through Uplay first. Once you do that, it is easily accessed through the main game. If that bothers you, just think of it as entereing the serial number on your expansion pack. The process is well documented, and brief, but if the 20 seconds to enter a CD key is an insurmountable hurdle, then sure. Don't play this DLC.)

After putting a ton of hours into FC4, you feel like youve strapped C4 to every rhino and lit every unsuspecting guard on fire with a blow torch. Escape from Durgesh takes that same game, and condenses it, like shaking an airhead until its just a little sugar pillow at the end of the wrapper. If youve been jonesing for that next fix and the standard game isn't cutting it anymore, this spices it up and boils it down into an hour of extra-strength, over-the-counter Far Cry. If you're done with FC4, dont bother. If you've finished everything and want to do it again, but mixed up all crazy, then go ahead: I haven't regretted it.

Buick68
Buick68

A long timed mission kinda defeats the reason I play FC games.. to Explore. For some reason you have to access it outside of your saved game as it's a seperate challenge, not part of the main game. You start the game in a remote location and try to get as much done in 30 minutes as you can. You keep your upgraded skills if you die and start again but who wants to grind the area for 30 minutes over, and over, and over....just to get the skills you want so you can finish the challange a bit easier.

I didn't bother to finish it after grinding a while because soloing it was boring as hell and none of my friends were stupid enough to get the season pass like I was. Unless you love the idea of permadeath gameplay skip it. Waste of time and money. What's the point of giving us a new area to explore, if we can't take our time to actually explore and enjoy it... Not to mention, with a game that randomly kills you due to various co-op bugs, permadeath doesn't really work out that well.

The worst dlc ever! This is absolutley terrible in every way. It would take me hours to explain everything wrong with this. I'll just say you have 30 min to explore the entire map on very hard difficulty setting before you have to run for your helicopter....then you have to protect that helicopter for 9 min with wave after wave of enemies bombarding you with next to no arsenol of weapons, if you are lucky enough to craft a bigger weapon holster good on ya. WTF were they smoking when they developed this piece of crap add on. Save your hard earned money and buy a good game with it. I WANT MY F***ING 10 BUCKS BACK NOW! This is _unplayable_. Do not spend your money on this.

Even the main setup, that it is on hardcore (for non-Diablo knowers: no checkpoints, if you die, you restart) makes it 0% enjoyable.
You start with a zeroed out progress (0 skills, 0 crafts [ok, 1, but there are no elephants]) but the enemies are the Royal Army (you know, heavy troops with big pewpews). It's like you start the base game with the siege of a fortress head-on.
There are tasks that need 10-15 minutes plus the extra time vandering around on the map (no fast travel, no buzzers) and they give 2-3 minutes? What the hell?!
Even the "easy" tasks and outposts are at least "hard", and there are "very hard" places...add it up.
The endgame (defending the chopper) cannot be won unless you do almost all the tasks.
Oh, and in this 30 minutes you should also take time to poach(!!!). Remember, you lost all your craftings?

Ubisoft: you screwed this DLC up, big time. Even Valley of the Yetis is better than this.

I played through a lot of FPS-es on hardest, so I know when it is a challenge and when it is a piece of shit, and this is the latter.
This DLC is a big NO.

The same game just with a timer

Apoopt Mupantz
Apoopt Mupantz

I'd recommend this add-on if the timer could be turned off (I prefer to take my time, thoroughly explore the map, and not have to worry about running out of time). But I can't find a way to turn it off, so unless you enjoy going back to the biginning every time you die or run out of time, this add-on just isn't worth the money or effort. Are there any tapirs in the map?--if not (and I can't find any), you're restricted to a handgun and one other weapon--this sucks, especially when you're faced with RPGs and snipers when you try to protect the end chopper. The more experience you gain and the more you play the map, the tougher the enemies get at the end. The balance would be a lot better if you could easily find the Buzzsaw, but it seems to be well hidden. Anyway, unless you're bored waiting for FarCry5 and need to play a re-hashing of the standard North Kyrat map just to kill some time, avoid this one.

"Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?"

It's essentially this DLC. I got really frustrated to pointlessly trying to do the few missions to get some better defence at the final battle - just to die and lose all that stuff. I ended up finishing the fight with the power of blind anger, a pistol and a few baits. And what's the reward? Nothing.

There you go. Not recommended.

I tried to give this DLC a chance, but the main disappointment for me was the amount of farming you need to do to progress. I agree with all the other negative points people have said so won't repeat that. The last straw was playing nearly two hours and completing a mission where I thought it would grant access to gyrocopters - there was a glitch and it didn't save this progress. I should have read the reviews first - THE MAIN GAME IS GREAT so it was naive on my part expecting it to be good. You have been warned..............

Remove the timer, and this would be A LOT OF FUN. With the timer this is, by far, the worst game I have ever played. To make that really sink in, I have been a PC gamer since before even the Commodore systems came out. The makers of this game should be forced to publish a patch that makes this disaster playable. I want my money back.

ChaoticDerpy
ChaoticDerpy

To really enjoy the most out of this DLC, you must first really enjoy the base game first, which I did. Also, you need to be very mindful that you only have one life, hence death is permanent. Promptly forgetting about this and jumping out of a captured outpost and hence killing yourself in the process is going to be extremely frustrating, considering all your progress will be wiped clean and you have to start all over again. Given the nature of this DLC, you also must really enjoy a hardcore challenge.

If the above doesn't falter you, then you're ready to buy this DLC. Also, don't be fooled by the "30 minutes" thing. The DLC can take longer than that to complete. By doing missions for Pagan. you can extend whatever time you have left. Also, since time is constantly ticking, you can't afford to waste time (so to speak) waiting for that perfect headshot or biding your time to take down an outpost. You need to manage between having to go loud or go ninja at different times, which does really test your skill. Overall, it's not so much of a typical DLC but more of an additional gamemode with significantly increased difficulty.

If you're thinking of buying it, I would probably wait for a sale. If not, you could spend a bit more to get the Season Pass for more content if you really enjoyed playing FC4.

Escape From Durgesh Prison is a short but relatively fun mode for when you have already beaten everything else in the game.

You start on top of a bell tower and your task is to make your way to an extraction point in 30 minutes to wait for a pick-up to arrive. While this happens, waves of enemies intercept your escape. If you are not prepaired properly, you WILL guaranteed die. Death means a restart from the start.

For this reason, the map offers multiple tasks, which reward you in different ways. Clearing outposts grant you either crafting loot, skill points or weapons. Beating missions (which are basically the campaign side missions with extra rewards) grant you tools for you to use at the extraction point, such as turrets and Guns For Hire.

If you die, you will lose all the progress you've earned towards clearing the missions, but your weapons, skills and crafted equipment remain. For this reason, I suggest grinding as much of this as you can before heading over to the extraction point.

All being said, it's worth maybe 5 bucks at most. But I personally wouldn't have bought it without getting Season Pass with the other extra content to add to it.

Rose

This DLC brings literally nothing new but a couple of voice lines by Pagan Min.

The base game contains 32 campaign missions, 24 outposts and 4 fortresses you can liberate alone or with a friend by killing all the guards. There are also tens of side missions that revolve around killing guards or commanders. You can also collect about a hundred or more items just for the sake of perfectionism. This easily amounts to at least 30 but probably over 40 hours.

You also get access to the arena which is a small location where you compete against waves of enemies. As if it wasn't enough, there's a separate mode available where you liberate player-created outposts, or you can create your own.

In summary, as part of the Far Cry 4 purchase you get to kill a huge amount of enemies and fully explore the island.

The DLC just uses the existing world and some of its locations as even more outposts for you to liberate. There are no cutscenes, NPCs or anything resembling a story. It resets your main game progress for the mode and gives you 30 minutes to just roam around the same old places, while it offers no incentive to do it except for a place in the leaderboards where the top positions have been achieved through hacking, as the game has no anti-cheat.

You've got to be kidding??? What an absolute waste of time. Developers made it too difficult with the inclusion of a bloody timer(30 min)!!! Why not just increase the hostility of the Npc's ? Add more dangerous animal encounters and raise the level difficulty of the quests? ..... Very frustrating and very disappointing DLC.
P.S Remove the timer for goodness sake!!!

This DLC takes 30 minutes only and it doesn't takes place in Durgesh but in Northern Kyrat,
Ajay has 30 minutes to prepare and go to the second end of the map for helicopter rescue.

Of course time will increase if he will complete quests and liberate outposts but its boring.

After everything is ready Ajay has to wait 5 minutes and survive last stand when he is being rescued after.

Really bad DLC dont buy it

BEWARE TIMED MISSION! If you like racing against the clock you may like this DLC. If you hate timers in games you should avoid this one like the plague, because the whole thing is one big timer.

I wonder if the same [so-called] designers who came up with this mess also puked out the timed-travesty called, "kill-house" in FarCry 5. If so they definitely need a different career.

Note to the developers: Timers in open-world games = terrible idea.

Just... utter garbage. Between the time limit, the randomized high level enemies, and the fact you start with nothing, this dlc is painful to play. The only redeeming parts it has were copy-pasted from the main game. This dlc is a complete waste of time and frustration.

Just horrible... You start off with a knife, no skills, no equipment, leaving you practically defenseless. And you have to immediately start attacking medium to hard outposts to try and get stronger, which is really difficult since you have no weapons and such a limited amount of time. Not to mention if you die at all it's permanent and you will have to start from the very beginning again. It makes it more stressful than fun, just not worth it.

Sense of CLouD

Perfect game, crap DLC. Its just an arcade mode, goes last part of normal map, not prison nor something. Gives you some outpost to liberate, and some missions for rewards. When you die its saving your personal progress such as skills and guns, but resets all other completed rewards or missions.

Rewards are upgrades for your extraction point, like mounted guns or caged animals. You need to go there in 30 mins. sure you can increase that time by completing missions.

But its just getting frustrate. And if you have required skills and decent guns, and if your aim is good enough, know survival defend situations, you can finish that DLC.

After 10 minutes of hard defending your heli, you can dislike that DLC too, like me..

Or just dont buy, if you have already dont even play, its not related for story, nor achievements there. Basically its just repetitive cancer

More like an additional game mode than a real DLC.

All you need to achieve throughout this DLC is to get from point A to point B once, however, developers make it difficult for you so as to drag this thing out and make it look like a longer experience, but in the end, it's still "point A to point B", and the added difficulty becomes annoying because of this lack of investment.

Don't recommend.

Not even worth the review... stealing this one:

I got really frustrated to pointlessly trying to do the few missions to get some better defense at the final battle - just to die and lose all that stuff.

This isn't bad but really should be combined into the main game. It was buggy in some areas and the first game for me to crash in farcry 4.
My biggest issue with this DLC is you couldn't save properly. It was a timer that just kept resetting everytime you restarted but you kept all your stuff, skills and crafted items. It would have made more sense if they allowed a full save and a timer that stayed constant rather then a weird scenerio reset each time but you keep all your stuff. It took the realism out of the game and it started just feeling like ground hog day... you know sometimes I need to quit the game to go lunch ?!?. I didn't mind so much that there were no shops, that made it quite fun.
When it did save was sometimes buggy and I had to edit save files to get the correct save (so i didn't start losing weapons i searched hard for).
Altogether not terrible but I only suggest if you get it part of the package or on sale. otherwise its just not worth it.

this is a fun dlc, but worth 3 to 5 $ tops so get it on sale.
it is a race against the clock to play in 30 minutes.
you wont lose anything special if you don't play it either.

GUYS JUST DO THE MISSION THAT INSTALLS MG'S AT THE RENDEVOUS POINT AND USE THE MG'S to KILL EVERYONE, like its that easy but it took a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time to do, and maybe complete the mission that gives you rebels.

It's a decent, challenging DLC.

Good fun, very under rated, it would have been much better to start from the don't look down mission from Durgesh Prison rather than a random tower.

I mean... it's not a bad DLC per say. If you like a hard challenge that is timed with some pretty fun missions and some new voice lines, this is for you. The missions are pretty decent, the story voice lines are good, the timer adds even more difficulty to the hard mode, etc. However, the main downside and flaw with this DLC is that it has permadeath. If you die once, you lose everything and all your progress in the DLC, which sucks. This would be a good DLC if it was not for this stupid permanent death rule, you should be able to respawn and lose maybe like a minute at most instead of just having a permanent death. Though if you can get around the permanent death rule, it's a good DLC.
