I was interested to see this add on as I've flown the falcon series for two decades now and still play FalconBMS regularly. I thought this might have some interesting features. While it does have more than the default F/A-18, such as a radar you can "lock on to targets" and a variety of liveries featuring different load outs that's about the extent of it. The F-16 in FalconBMS is often cited at about 85% accurate to the Block 40 & 50/52 series and could be argued is a study quality aircraft (Falcon 4.0 met or exceeded all USAF requirements as a training sim back in the day).

I decided to try start from a cold start to see the differences. I know the procedure backwards and forwards from BMS.
And that's where the differences really came out. Many of the switches needed to perform a cold start are non-functional in this cockpit. I don't expect this cockpit to have to wait 8 - 12 minutes on the tarmac for the INS to calibrate and 3 minutes for the radar system to perform a bit test like in BMS, but even basic stuff like the canopy open/close while a functional switch to click in the cockpit didn't seem to raise or lower the canopy.

It may appeal to a segment of the crowd here as this aircraft isn't going to take you 60 hours or more of flight time to learn all the systems. But if you are serious about wanting fly an F-16 I'd try and find a copy of Falcon 4.0 and download the BMS package instead.

I think this addon is great! I just wish the planes had American flags on them!

As with all the DLC on steam fsx this is great I thought it was good how it seemed at the end of each week there was a new dlc it made it easy for everyone to afford but now as usual a bit more and more getting greedy its probably going to do more harm than good but I really hope not because i love it .

Don't bother til Aerosoft works out the licensing for the liveries. This will save you a ton of headaches searching for what is going on. This is a generic model with no markings to speak of. Of course everything else is great about the add on! If all you wanna do is fly a high performance jet, go ahead and drop the coin. I am just frustrated that STEAM would release incomplete products for Premium prices.

i love that you added a new plane but can you add more and add skins to it like the thunderbird skin for the f16

Probably not the best F-16 experience you can find, but I quite like it. It's pretty easy to learn enough to start flying; it's the perfect level of difficulty for a filthy casual such as myself. The model looks good, both interior and exterior and I think it's a joy to fly. I see myself spending a lot of my FSX time flying the Falcon.

I love the F16 and this DLC says it all. It has a very realistic Cockpit and its very detailed. Theres lots of buttons and switches you can play with while your flying it. It took me awhile to understand how this version of the F-16 flew but after a while it became fun to fly. So overall if you love the F-16 like myself get this DLC. Its money worth spending. 10/10

It took me a while to locate the 'On' for the M.F.D.s (almost directly to your right) and the H.U.D. (top scroller to the left of the keypad under the H.U.D. - directly in front of me, duh), but everything works great, including all of the other instruments I found.

Not a good DLC. The fuel gauge doesn't work and most of the switches are a one way thing (I.e. if you switch the air speed indicator from tru to calculated, you can't switch back). You are paying for only the look and flight characterisctics, of the various loadouts, without much of the functionality. I have not flown it, until it should run out of fuel, so I do not know if it has unlimited. For the cost, it should work so much better.

The Aerosoft F-16 is an awesome aircraft and fun to fly, but I do not recommend purchasing it through Steam. The Steam version of this DLC is stripped down and the markings have been removed from all of the liveries for licensing reasons.

Addendum:
The publisher actually provided all the missing liveries for free here:

http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/95310-press-release-from-dovetail-games-about-f-16-release/
Licensing just wouldn't allow them to include them on steam.

...doesn't have flood lights...otherwise get ready for some serious control! Very realistic and basic and has preset vc views exactly where you need them. Sounds are generic and interesting...the gear is a bit saggy and needs more work(pops a bit when on the floor a few times). Press shift+f2...select the loadout and the hud is set for combat flight! A good pilot uses this as a pencil on an analysis map.

Most of the buttons are not programmed, but it still is a nice experience to try this jet fighter. cocpit is detailed and graphics are satisfying

This jet is honestly not that bad, the reviews made me believe that the F-16 is a terrible plane on this but when I flew it was smooth, agile, and fast.
I formation flew with a buddy who professioned F-16 in FSX and we did a whole hour from AR51, East to the Mountains, and did some agile military power dirty flying and made it out clean and smooth; coming out to an airport which we did a tactical landing, which showed that the F-16 has a beautiful glide slope and its speed is very controllable; beautiful brakes and smooth taxiing.

I rate the F-16 - 9/10, 5 for beauty, customization, and smoothness. 4 for iffy realism.

Not realistic, not fun to fly, it is one of those things you can get from a free addon. For £20 i would expect at least a working HUD! Rip off!!!

Worth it? -Spreads legs wide open- Take me now, F-16.. (so worth it)

It's just worth it.... Usually I give detailed reviews on FSX:SE add-ons. This one does not need it.
The F-16 in reality and in this game is the bomb, com (So many meanings)

Handles beautifuly, looks beautiful, a poop ton of load-outs to pick from (The only unique paint schemes are in the Czech air force display team and squadrons which makes go WTF!?!?! Why no Thunderbirds?) but that is easy to get over.....

Looks good and flies good at no cost to your frames....only your wallet.

Buy it if you want a nice almost completely legit fighter jet to fly in FSX.

The biggest problem with it is that the elevator controls do not work. That means that this aircraft is unusuable currently.

Cosmic Acorn
Cosmic Acorn

It's good but it should be $15, not $25. If you want something maneuverable, just stick to the F/A-18 that comes with FSX. I'm not complaining, it is worth the price, it would just be more reasonable if it was closer to $12.99 like a lot of the other DLC planes.

The throttle is extremely easy to make quick adjustments, so no more overshooting 747s at 400+ knots when you're trying to intercept them. Not only that, but it looks very cool, too. Looks aren't everything but you have to have some fun in life.

The brakes for both air and ground are very good, and taxing is extra-easy. The smoke trails look nicer than the other jets, there are two of them and they come out of the wings. This would also be good for formation flights for two main reasons, the turning is very slow, meaning that there is room for mistakes, and there are many different variations of this plane for you or your team to choose from.

If your budget is limited or you're looking for maneuverability, just leave your money in your wallet and stick to the F/A-18.

It is Great! Its awesome and it has a bunch of cool loadouts, I guess that is what you call them. Sure, it doesn't have a HUD, or one of my favroite Demo Teams, The Thunder Birds, but it makes up for it. it haves some Features like a blue and and light grey camo called Cat-1, some Ext. tanks on the top of the fuselage, Aim-2000's Aim-9's, Aim-12's, GBU-12's, Etc. (not all on the same plane). I like it, but they should add a HUD and The Thunder Birds Livery. I do recommend

Nice model, the VC is fine and I really like the exterior. Not so expensive so I recommend it.

This is a very beautifully designed aircraft. It is pretty obvious that Aerosoft put a lot of time and effort into the looks and sounds. It does, however, have many flaws. First off, the aircraft's flaps are inoperatable. Second, some of the aircraft's switches can not be flipped more than once. Take the tail hook, for instance. Say a pilot accidentally flips this switch mid flight, but he does not want to perform a carrier landing. Flight ruined. Or perhaps the lights? unwanted light configurations can ruin the immersion in more ways than one. My last [and biggest] issue is that just like most of the aircrafts systems, the systems that turn on and configure the HUD and MFD's can not be reversed. What I mean is that once you flip those switches, there is no way to un-flip them. Now, this wouldn't be a problem unless a pilot wishes to shut his engines off, and then start them back up. Shutting down the engines also shuts down the HUD and MFD's, and without the instrumenst neccessary to turn them back on, you will not be able to perform a serious flight.

Overall, I think that this aircraft has potential, however, I would not reccomend paying 20+ dollars for it until these issues are fixed.

EDIT: Shortly after writing this, I paid a visit to YouTube and the internet, and figured out that this airplane just operates in a very wierd way. The review is not accurate, so please ignore it.

I expected the screens on the panel to work instead of being just black boxes. The GPS does not work either. For $18 dollars i expected more. I've ordered aircraft for 1/4 that had excellent working panels. Like the F18. Don't waist your money.

The DLC is awesome in my opinion. Details to the aircraft are superb and I can "feel" the F-16 through the DLC although some of the controls and buttons aren't "modelled".

just dont buy it go for bms 4.34. you just get fun only for 1 hour and things just get repeat eachother.

I loved it. Great DLC, realistic feel, although I enjoy practicing carrier landing with this plane, there was only one thing I wish this plane had: a launch bar. Awesome plane, textures look great. Gives you 4, unique F-16 fighters. (DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY SORT OF WORKING WEAPONRY)

For the price I would like if all the MFD's would work. I am not asking for study level avionics but this aircraft should be freeware
