So far i've been having tons of fun with this DLC. If you're ever going to play as Russia i highly recommend it.
It doesn't fundamentally change the game in such a way that it ruins the rest, but that is also its weakness. There's not enough content for the price, buy it when there's a sale.

Its a nice little Russia focused DLC. If you want more uniqueness to Russia then get this pack, if you dont and expected more? Take a look at the featues below, there is pretty much everything you will get in this pack.

Made creating Russia a lot more fun and interesting less plain. Recommend if you like playing Eastern Europe like I do from time to time. If you never play there most likely nothing here for you unless you want to play against a stronger Russia.

I actually really like the new Immersion Pack format, it lets those of us who want a self-contained focused experience to opt-in, while rewarding paradox for their work financially, but also lets those who don't like it for whatever reason opt out, as there's nothing players who aren't interested in that playstyle are missing out on.

My Pain is Constant and Sharp
My Pain is Con…

This DLC is the first (of course its only the first) of a new line of... mini-DLC? The first 10 Major exspansions for EUIV were all DLC priced at 15-20$ USD. These first 10 DLC came with major mechanical changes and feature additions for every nation. Some (Art of War) are a MUST have in order to have a complete and fun experience. Some (Mare Nostrum) are not really worth the asking price, and add so little to the game, that you may not even notice or care that its few and unimportant features are missing. These new mini-DLC do add changes, and feature additions, but instead of affecting the game as a whole, they only apply to one set of nations/region. The first mini-DLC is 'Third Rome' which expands upon the Russians and there gameplay. Not bad, especially if you like to play in the Russian region, a good 5$ or less DLC. Except its not 5$, its twice that, at a baffling 10$. In the past, there was ground to stand on in terms of defending the number and price points of the major DLC. But I cannot convince myself that there are ANY redeeming features to this DLC. Its a joke. It doesnt affect the whole game, only Russians (A TINY portion of the map. I get the irony.) There are NO added features that come with the DLC that affect non-Russians, and the changes they did make amount to about 5 new buttons that you press every few years in in-game time. How is this supposed to be half the price, and thus half the worth of ANY of the major DLC? Even Mare Nostrum added more than five buttons and mechanical changes for anyone with a navy. Saying this is half the worth of Art of War is not a very funny joke. I can no longer defend the DLC policy of this game to my freinds. I can't even defend it to myself. Its trash. Don't waste your money. If you have 10$ to spend, go buy something on Summer Sale.

TL;DR Add's almost nothing to like one relevant nation, its twice the price people were expecting and its another pointless DLc on the pile of the other 20 pointless DLC's. If you haven't already bought EU4, its no longer advisable to buy even the base game.

Monad

Very expensive for the small amount of content that it adds. Should only be bought when the price is near that of Res Publica in my opinion.

Russia is one of the more interesting countries to play in EU4, and this pack adds some nice new stuff for you when you play Russia. A little more flavour events would have been nice, but still this pack is quite good for the money.

I play russia a lot, and this is my favorite game to play so obv i'll buy any DLC.. I don't recommend anyone who doesn't love playing Muscovy/Novgorod to buy this.

There's so little here, practically nothing. 1st immersion pack, if its this price in the future I hope they never do another.

Aluminum Elite Master
Aluminum Elite…

I understand a lot of the complaints, and I, too, don't recommend this (largely because of the price).

But I also want to add a bit more sanity to the conversation.

For one, a lot of the work on something like this is beneath the surface. For instance, the number of checks the CPU has to be programmed to perform for even more possible modifiers on things like combat and manpower translate into more coding changes than one might imagine. This is the same issue Civilization has, as a series: any time you add something like Icons, you're giving yourself a lot more coding to do regarding checks on modifiers, just to yield what is a small amount of content to interact with on the user-end. All those icons, with their relatively small but useful effects, require new checks for modifiers, or at least new equations to add together all modifiers before applying them in their respective spheres.

Secondly, this is a far more tolerable DLC, in my view, than something that essentially forces you to buy it. I forget what DLC it is, but the one that allows raising development levels is actually the worst DLC for this game, as it was tied to a free update that pretty much forced players to rely on development rather than buildings. While the content for Third Rome is too small, at least it's not something you are almost coerced into having to buy to enjoy the game... if you want to know what that's like, go look at Paradox's own Hearts of Iron IV, where requesting lend-lease requires a DLC despite granting lend-lease being a vanilla mechanic.

Third, and lastly, the price points for a good many of the DLCs Paradox has done are no different than this. Going back to CK2, it's the same situation there. What's different, here, is that this is an 'immersion' pack, though the immersion is minimal. And it was always going to be. When your DLC model goes so far as to seperate music from sprites, and both from actual game mechanics, then it's going to be a real interesting show when you try to call something an 'immersion' pack. Paradox is somewhat unique in having this problem... whatever the faults of both Civ V and Civ VI, those two games at least give you the unique unit sprites and culture-specific music along with the playable content. Really, when one looks at something like Civ V's BNW expansion, or TW:W's Wood-Elves, and then compares either to Mandate of Heaven (which was only $10 or so cheaper than either example), it becomes startling that music and sprites aren't just thrown-in.

Ultimately, a lot of invisible work is often included in Paradox expansions. But that's not enough of an excuse to justify such a piece-meal DLC policy, at least not when each piece is sold at these sorts of prices.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS EP OUTSIDE OF A SALE. IT IS A RIP OFF. It adds a few governments, three or four gimmicks, and nothing else, aside from a basic boost to Orthodox nations.

I have defended Paradox's EPs for a longe time. For example, the "Mandate of Heaven" EP was worth the price and provided scores of features that could be enjoyed all across Asia. The Age system and objectives were also really cool.

This is the first EP Paradox has ever released that was absolutely impossible to defend. It is terrible and should have been put into a larger EP instead of being sold separately. I cannot express my disappointment.

Paradox's EPs were always loaded with content and things to do that made them generally worth the price. This EP, however, is an EA-tier EP, almost as horrid as a "Season Pass". DO NOT GET IT AT FULL PRICE.

This is probably the most disappointing DLC in the franchise. It follows in the footsteps of the previous DLC, which made Ming into an unstoppable force of nature, to do the same with Russia. Unlike the previous DLC, however, that added a variety of interesting features like ages and improvements to the macrobuilder, this DLC does not add a single feature other than unbalancing one of the nations involved in the game.

While playing as Russia, the content does not feel substantially more historical. I have been considering turning this one off during the course of play. Would recommend Paradox replace whoever concepted it.

Mekyro

Whomst stole my apple juice

Nice, expansions and units for one price, all focused on Russia (and a few others).

I think it would be better to have units and mechanics seperate next time so people won't waste money on the part they don't want, but this an immersion pack, so this is more of an optional thing. If you don't want to go Eastern European, then dont get this. (Unlike me, because I want to make the Pope follow the Orthodox faith.)

Edit: Honestly, this is one of the first DLCs since Conquest of Paradise which is optional, instead of having major mechanics, such as Common Sense, which "force" you to buy it. Yet, I fail to see why people are so butthurt over this and decide to leave reviews commenting on the DLC policy instead on the DLC itself.

As I stated earlier, this DLC is "optional", meaning you don't have to buy it.
(Unless you're going to play a few games as a Russian nation, then I totally recommend this!)

I did not find that it made Russia an easier experience. In fact I found that it made it harder to juggle more responsibilities and the added factors of what it takes to run a tsardom compared to a kingdom. As well as the many neighboring threats, I enjoyed playing as Russia much more with this immersion pack.

It is not an expansion pack and should not be treated as such. People who enjoy playing as a russian state and are very interested in that region would be into this product. As for the price. I found it was worth it. Considering I could go to McDonald's and buy a meal for this price and shit it out in eight hours. I was able to enjoy three playthroughs with this pack.

Field General
Field General

For the price it is, I can't recommend this immersion pack under any circumstances. As others have stated, this pack adds some new features for Russian factions, primarily by adding some new layers to the Orthodox faith. You can now use your patriarch authority to commission various icons which give you certain bonuses for 20 years. You can now also gain patriarch authority by consecrating metropolitans in states with enough development.

Undoubtedly, these are welcome additions for the Orthodox faith and help to flesh out one of the weaker faiths in the game. But these additions along with the other features in this pack (a new way of colonising Siberia that doesn't require you to use colonists by using diplomatic points instead) simply don't justify the £7 pricetag.

If Paradox wants to go the route of immersion packs for certain factions (an idea I quite like in principle) they either need to provide more content and features or they need to lower the price. As others have said, although this immersion pack adds some nice features to Russian factions, it is simply not worth the price of admission.

The Orthodox nations were more then playable before, it just adds extra flavour, i mean it doesnt add much, but thats because you cant really add to much, the game was mad and completeled and millions already had fun as Muscovy and Novgorod, so on, so only buy this if you want extra flavour to your Russian game

Keep calm and eat Milky Way
Keep calm and …

When I bought this, I actually thought this would really improve the russian and neighbouring regions.
I was wrong.
You get almost nothing from this DLC. Sorry, Immersion Pack.
Almost every feature can be modded if you have a bit experience (really just a bit, modding this game is relatively easy) and for those features being a bit harder to create (like claiming states instead of provinces) its also just some hours creating workarounds or stuff like that.
What I'm trying to say is that this so called 'Immersion Pack' really gives you almost nothing and only improves the gameplay a bit if you specifically play a russian nation.
And even then they're just optional and in my first run with this DLC (and my only one yet in Russia) I almost forgot about most features and was sometimes reminded by a notification telling me I can get more free units. And that's almost the only feature I really used, sure, the icons had some purpose especially when I played Byzantium lately, but otherwise it wasn't worth buying this.

In conclusion I can say that you should only buy this Immersion Pack if you're playing in Russia really often, in which case you probably already bought this.

Not worth the money unless you are invested in the title, and even then its a stretch to say its good value.

we've got trouble
we've got trouble

I would recommednd it, but only if you are willing to spend money on both nice features and Unit Packs. The main reason this DLC is so expensive for it's features is that it didn't have a seperate DLC with the unit packs, which upped the price by maybe 50%. If you already buy some of the Unti Packs, then the price shouldn't be an issue, if you don't, I'd recommed you wait for a sale. I certainly don't encourage Paradox's DLC policy, but I can't say this doesn't add what I want. Hopefully they make seperate packs for the units in the next Immersion Pack DLC, that would probably help reviews, A LOT.

I expected Third Rome to give some benefits to nations besides Muscovy - specifically, Novgorod. However, Novgorod is next to impossible to survive with for like 5 years, since Muscovy attacks before you can form any alliances. I know historically Muscovy formed Russia, but this is a "what if" type game, and some greater flavour for Novgorod and the smaller principalities would have been more appreciated.

I read the reviews for this DLC and they pretty much said it would make Muscovy OP.
SO I thought to myself: I play Muscovy alot, I'm bad at eu4, How to I make my expirience for enjoyable?

I though that this dlc would pretty much make me an EU4 GOD, but, that was not the case.
I catually lost a lot faster with this DLC on then I do without it on.

APPERENTLY, you have to be "good" at EU4 for this to be OP.

Patented Skinn…

I literally bought this dlc for 5+ discipline modifier for my Byzantium runs, but i was disappointed with the fact that it is not ruler dependent and has a cost of 10 patriarch authority. And it's not even permanent or ruler life-dependent. It's 20 years! the metropolitan system feels lacking in depth with a small modifier for the cost of 30 development and if you own all the states a unity of same or integrated cultures.

Speaking of Byzantium. In ironman-mode, WHY is "luck" a requirement, historical accuracy is a laughable argument, considering that countries like Sweden that barerly had an empire is "lucky" and events like the burgundian throne can be inherited by an almost endless amount of countries such as Scotland. Why do you include luck as a mechanic in Ironman? Why add that unrealistic mechanic that only renders small countries that already have it tough useless, even if you calculate the army modifiers and terrain placements. I mean come on paradox! Why limit the reason that people play the game, historical inaccuracy! Yes! The reason we want to go back in time is so we get to form our own path, our own timelines, where Rome was restored by the Byzantines. And for me, i don't want to cheat, i want a gameplay where i only rely on my own knowledge and skills, but all the rng and luck based events ruin that immersion completely!(With the exception of national events). You can't say that you made ironman as a historically accurate challenge and at the same time have mechanics like the "luck modifiers" and rng based events. The game is not fun like this.

Conclusion:
The dlc was overpriced and didn't feel worth the money i spent(bought it during a sale) I regretted it after 2 minutes, so think before buying their pricy and barely acceptable content dlc. Some dlcs are blatantly made so that you will buy it to compensate for their painfully bad balancing.

To paradox:
Would i be suprised to see this sort of business model in Imperator:Rome? No. I as a long time consumer of you franschises will not buy Imperator: Rome out of sincere disgust for your conduct of dividing you game in packs and selling them for half of what the retail price is for the "base game". Why do you insist on locking innovation and progress of your games behind a paywall? I will never recommend this game or any other with the similar problem as "full and honest games" until this sort of dealing ends.

Lystraeus

A pretty good DLC, with one critical bug. What you get:

- New government management for Russian and Ruthenian tags
- Streltsy
- (Rus/Ruth) Fabricate claim on states
- (Rus) Changes idea from +1 colonist to Siberian Frontiers (free Siberian colonies)
- Mission trees
- Events
- ALL Orthodox tags get more from Patriarch authority, with icons & metropolitans (yes Byzantium & Orthomans too)
- Russian advisor portraits
- Unit pack for Lithuania, Kazan, Ruthenian/Russian minors (not Muscovy, that's Common Sense content pack)

All seems good if you buy on sale. However DO NOT BUY because of one critical bug (still present as of 1.28.3).

The AI loves to Raise Streltsy. What this means is, AI Russia won't build artillery or cavalry. Their armies turn to paper. The tag which is supposed to be an end-game boss - like Ming or Ottomans - become utterly incompetent. Example: https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/bvvvmo/paradox_can_you_please_fix…

Until Paradox fix this bug, buyer beware.

New Russian Missions
-Are really good, many different ways to expand, teaches you the game and rewards you for playing well.

The new Russian governments Principality and Tsardom are free with the base game, this DLC gives you 3 new buttons:
-10% local autonomy in all provinces
-30% progress all rebel factions
-2 war exhaustion + a few units that have better firepower, but increase the cost of raising stability.

Orthodox Church
-Bunch of new events. Gives you the options of increasing patriarch authority by 5 OR losing 5 patriarch authority, but gaining some other short term benefit.
-Once you have 10 patriarch authority you can activate one of 5 icons, which awards you a 20 year benefit.
-Increasing patriarch authority: Increases missionary strength, lowers unrest, and increases manpower.

Conclusions:
-Basically this DLC makes Russia much harder to defeat in war. They have a huge army+reserve of manpower, and it's easier for them to suppress rebels. You must stop Russia early game. The only success I've had mid-late game is having 2-3 great powers on my side, and even then it's a slog.
-On the positive side, it's great for smaller Orthodox nations.

Final Verdict:
-Get it at half off if you want to play as an Orthodox nation, otherwise it's not worth it and you can leave it turned off.

This is a great DLC if you are playing in that part of the world - specifically Muscovy and Novogorod. Adds a good bit of detail and Orthodox-specific events and actions.

Wouldn't bother if you aren't interested in this area, however it's good to give it a try and learn about that part of the world. I'm thoroughly enjoying my attempt to get the Siberian expansion steam achievement.

This is only worth it if you play Russia or another Orthodox state, since the only thing this does is buff them.

Orthodox gets new modifiers such as missionary strength and less unrest, and this allows russia to raise streltsy forces and claim whole states not just single provinces though the streltsy forces are pretty much just free manpower and regiments in the same fashion as the ottoman jannissaries

Decent amount of content for Russia, which is what you're paying for. Priced about right, unlike other DLCs (looking at you Cradle of Civilization and Dharma) which are region specific but bumped up to full price because they add wider mechanics.

Karl
Karl

While I would say that this was a good DLC, when it was released, due to the changes made to the base game over the years, many of the events are just not even able to be fired. The story of the Westernization of Russia by Peter the Great can't be told in a game where that mechanic got removed. Where there is no penalty to being in a different tech group beyond the pips the units get. All these changes and more have invalided over half the events in this DLC. Not to say that there aren't great events in there, but a lot of the claim events are basically duplicates, since the base russian missions contain most of them anyways. So really, only the russian orthodox events are left from the DLC. With the DLC, you get an expanded mission tree, powerful icons for the orthodox religion and special orthodox events, as well as nice event for your capital/constaninople.

All in all, while the orthodox religion by itself is the best, meta-wise, in the game, there is little else that makes this worth picking up at full price. Wait for a sale or outright skip it, if you aren't using orthodox religion.

JamickBewer
JamickBewer

Paradox's DLC policy is bad, but this DLC is good!

As the cover image shows, this DLC makes Russia fun. It also makes Orthodoxy the best religion in the game. Even if you don't wanna play in Eastern Europe but will be dealing with Orthodoxy, this DLC is an important one to have.

Topher Seoul
Topher Seoul

This is a good expansion pack, if you want to play as a Russian nation.

That tight focus is a positive thing: I held off buying it until I wanted to do a Russian run because you don't need it otherwise.

The unique units -- the Streltsy and Cossacks -- are pretty rad. Combined with mission trees, they give you the mechanics to have a rapidly expansionist Russia with fierce battle strength but with stability issues.

I'm still figuring out how to use Orthodoxy. Thus far, the religious mechanics are sufficiently different from Catholic, Protestant, or Buddhist nations, so that's fun.

In this run, I haven't gotten to colonizing Siberia or using the other features yet, but they look promising. All-in-all, that's a decent amount of focus.

The pricing is slightly off. I think PDX hit the mark for CK3's Viking expansion at $7, non-sales price.
