amazing haunted house type of scenario. it's not a combat-heavy scenario but the mirror-focused mystery is very cool and engaging, you really feel the old-timey 1930's vibe when going around the mansion.

Combat fans, steer clear - this scenario for Mansions of Madness is purely for lovers of story and atmosphere. Though the story doesn't really have any surprises, it was fun to experience especially as events take a warped turn. Definitely worth full price as it gave me a Mansions of Madness experience that my friends and I aren't likely to forget.

A great Mansions scenario - especially if you prefer story over combat.

+ Good story, with a nice twist
+ Great atmosphere

- Given that it is so heavily story focussed, I wonder about the replayability of this one.
- The app was bugged for me in the second half of the scenario. This caused me to have to repeat the whole scenario, from the beginning, in the app to be able to select an object in the game. See the FFG forum for more detail on this bug.

BUT! I still enjoyed it, so on balance I recommend this DLC - even if only to convice FFG to release more!

Setup was with 2 dlc Streets of Arckham and Beyond The Treshold,
the characters were father matheo, William Yorick, Wendy Williams and cultist girl from dlc.
We failed.
2 bugs. "Huntng horror moving 2 space at Hunting horror direction" or something like this. How that possible. And after loosing, the ending cutscene was from astral alchemy scenario. Sorry for my English. Same review on main gaim. Fix this and change it. Couse i liked the story in this scenario.

Really cool story-driven adventure, with not very much combat. I really liked it.
Several Bugs & lots of typos (German Version) were rather anoying and interputing (especially mood-wise).

Hopefully these issues get fixed in the future...

Story was cool! For 5 bucks its great for a new mission if you've completed others, but there are other DLC missions that are a bit better than this one.

This is an OKAY scenario. Worth getting, but it's one of the weaker ones.

It has an interesting premise (not really a spoiler because it happens 30 seconds into the scenario) where the investigators are split into 2 teams in separate areas. You then do stuff for a goal where things one team does occasionally affects the other.

There are two problems with this. One is that one of the teams is MUCH more focused on combat, and you're given no indication which. The scenario can be either unwinnable or a cakewalk depending on how well equipped for fighting that team is. The other problem is that this is the most lopsided scenario in the game for low player count groups. It's pretty much impossible with only 2 investigators, who are then split into two solo teams. People will say "just control two investigators each", but it you at least want the option to try it with 2.

A minor complaint is that it follows one of the more irritating trends of MoM scenarios where you have to find a couple important things to win, but the important things are indistinguishable from generic "gain 1 clue" search points. So you mostly have to search every yellow question mark, but don't have enough time for that so you just hope you hit the right ones.

So, it's worth getting since the $5 DLC scenarios are a much better bargain than the $15 each boxed scenarios, but in my opinion this is one of the weaker ones.

If you like action-packed scenario, do not play this!!

Otherwise, as What Lies Within, this is a really good DLC for Mansions of Madness 2nd edition! The mood was really different from usual scenarios, but really interesting. We got a bitter sweet ending and are already brainstorming on how we can win the game for real next time.

Spoilers ahead, because it's hard to point out specific complaints without them.

We liked the story and overall feel of this Investigation, though like the other DLC, this one has pretty glaring issues.

On our first playthrough, we had 3 people. Most of the game was largely uneventful - it was neat getting notes from Ada while running around, and collecting clues gave a pretty clear picture of what was going on. Eventually, you're told to go to the attic, which is locked, so you have to find a key. Unfortunately for us, on the same turn we acquired the keys to the attic, the event timer hit and were moved to the mirror universe. We only lost 1 turn to being Restrained and we weren't spending a significant amount of turns messing around, so besides ignoring all the interactable items, there wasn't much time we could have shaved off the run. We felt that the only way we could have made the attic in time is if we had known where it was before we started. This seems to be a common theme for the DLC - if you spend time exploring and checking every token on the board, you *will* run out of time and trigger the main event. The second half requires you to run around smashing the mirrors that were present in specific locations in the normal universe, after which a boss spawns, and you complete the investigation (but get the bad ending).

Not satisfied with the bad ending, we played a second round with 4 players and gave ourselves an extra turn to compensate for the tight timing. We found the keys to the attic and triggered the event in there rather quickly, which starts up the second phase in the mirror universe. The second phase of the game is even more tightly tuned than the first section - if you do not spend every possible action trying to find Ada and nothing else, she will turn evil, and once again trigger the bad ending sequence. Oddly, we found her and she acnowledged our presence, but before we were able to interact with her she completed the ritual anyways - it was really weird that she didn't stop when she realized there were other people there to help. At this point we exited out and cheated to finally see what happens if you are able to reach Ada in time. The subsequent ending sequence is pretty interesting, though I still don't understand why the game has a couple of Key Items it always gives you when they don't do anything at all. Additionally, there is always the same number of turns in Phase 2 no matter how quickly you complete Phase 1, which is a letdown - we felt that completing Phase 1 quickly should reward you with extra turns in Phase 2.

This investigation is extremely light on combat. The only fight in there is the boss creature (bad ending) and the steps leading up to the finish (good ending), so don't come in looking for a slugfest. Of the 3 available DLC, this one seems to be the most elegantly designed if you fail the primary objective - even though we took too long, due to all the information we gathered, we were able to quickly and easily resolve the new objective and complete the investigation. That being said, the unnecessarily tight timing is even more obvious on this investigation than the other DLC - it's not fun to have to ignore all the interactable objects and rush the finish, but that's what you have to do if you want the good ending.

4/5 for theme, 3/5 for mechanics (it's virtually impossible to get the good ending, but at least you can complete the investigation pretty easily if you don't make the timer).

It's difficult to review this without including spoilers but here goes ...

Pros - it's atmospheric in a Lovecraftian, "things that man was not meant to know" way so as a Call of Cthulhu RPG Keeper (GM/DM for those not familiar with CoC lingo) and long time player I enjoyed it. There was a real feeling of mystery unravelling and then a nice spooky twist. I also had no problems running this DLC (Surface Pro 2, Windows 10)

Cons - If you like dungeon crawl Cthulhu Pulp type adventures where you're wadding through Deep Ones and Cultists then you probably won't enjoy it since that is definitely absent. Also, it would probably not feel quite so suspenseful on a second play-through due to the nature of the twist in the story. Note: That may be an unfair criticism since I have only played it once and it could possibly have another twist or two I haven't seen.

Value for money - I paid full price and don't regret that. It's possibly not everyone's cup of tea but I'd certainly recommend that fans of the game snap up the DLC on sale
