You'd think after the major success of Payday 2 that Overkill wouldn't do something as ridiculous as have a "random" "technical test" that promised everyone a "fair chance" access giveaway with coincidentally most of the recipients being streamers. Well you'd be wrong, Overkill seriously thought the community was dumb enough to not notice this. The fact they still arent fully giving out access and in fact deleted people's request shows they really aren't sorry this happened, they're sorry they got caught. Both Darktide and Texas Chainsaw Massacre both allowed more players into their technical test so there's no reason why Overkill should be so exclusive.
I enjoy this heist on loud and stealth so much. It has great mission objectives on loud and stealth. Love the map design. It be great. Having to escort Vlad and seeing him in game makes me fall in love, he so cute
Heads up: steam counts base game playtime as dlc playtime, even when you disable the dlc from the library. Can't even refund this defective piece of trash. Crashes if u sneeze in it's general direction
Constantly crashing whether it's during the level, just about to complete, and even when you hit play! Leaving negative rating until this is resolved. This heist and Mountain Master really know how to make me feel like a huge, stinkin' cash whale . . .
Overkill, fix your bugs. There is obvious bugs who are still not fix on this DLC. Guards see through walls/floor. You can't hide a bodybag, guards will see them behind the doors. It happen 90% of the time.
A fairly nice heist where you rescue our beloved Ukranian Vlad from the Triads. The spawn rates on this one can be quiet annoying however it still gives off a pretty good heist in both stealth and loud but the money reward and xp could be higher in my personal opinion.
This heist is ludicrously unstable, even by Payday 2 standards. Opening the front gate (whether through lockpicking or shooting it open) has caused a crash-to-desktop when it's happened in any games I've hosted. There's apparently a known, separate crash that can happen if the texture settings are set above medium. I'm yet to have a loud game last long enough to reach the first assault wave before crashing despite repeated attempts (and the later "Texas Heat" heists running smooth as butter); that's how broken this one is. And this is two years after this heist was originally released!
I'll remove this review if it's ever fixed, but this is inexcusable. Avoid.
This track goes funky, groovy and crazy all at once
A midtier map imo. Get it on sale.
HUD Indicators for Flashbangs, 0 Downs Etc. is broken on this heist and doesn't show up, which is either a positive or a negative depending on how much you hate Flashbangs. Besides that, the heist isn't overly long, not tedious and kinda enjoyable, so its a solid 7/10, buy it on discount.
Music is rockin. Mission is pretty long too.
Really fun heist easily the best one in awhile
Finally a stealthable dlc heist can't wait to play it once its done downloading!
Quick review of this heist:
Pros:
- variety fresh play and new stuff
- decent map not just another carbon copy
- better than almir breakout (no jokes)
- new sound track is ok (gold rush better)
- gameplay is unexpectedly long and challenging
- nice map for farming exp
Cons:
- bad polishing (I'm experiencing heavy fps dropped at loud for warehouse areas)
- fbi spawn rate for loud is madness and maybe you want to take note
Summary:
Poor vlad, recommended.
first impression: very fun heist, with alot of xp.
20 minutes (loud) for 2 million xp on mayhem, objectives are really fun and seem to vary through 1-2 playthroughs.
a heist with better replayability and a unique way to extract the prisoner (for pd2 standards).
please, PLEASE build up upon this!! mby make the next heists with more oriental themes, mby get some inspiration from pdth heists, get weird with it!! hope the next one is even better!! good job :D
i very like choosing the escape road.
Great heist and music, way better than dragon heist
After years of poorly designed mediocre heists set on tiny maps with no cover, Overkill finally managed to release a good heist. The map has a pretty decent size, and the objectives have you continually moving forward through the map like a PD:TH map. There's a good amount of variety to the objectives, and not a lot of waiting around. There's always crates and corners to hide behind, and Overkill refrained from spamming snipers in the outside areas. Stealth was enjoyable, though a bit easy. No guard spam or weird gimmick objectives, which is good. Also no mandatory obnoxious bag moving is a huge plus.
For the first time in years, this will be a heist that I'll be adding to my regular playlist.
Nice fun heist, no stress Vlad breakout, new gameplay elements, no need to babysit the escorted prisoner. Will recommend this DLC, Song is nice too, good loud gameplay, interesting objectives, just annoying to find the right container before the escape
Very unique and actually fun experience. Might be one of the best post-end heists.
Brings a fairly new experience to the game, which is nice given the game's age. This one is especially refreshing for stealth players, first time playing in a level where you travel a fair distance in stealth and not just focused around one singular space, keeps the challenge up.
Main downside from me is that the loot payout seems very poor, Death sentence got me around 5-6 Mil in the end, given the distance there doesn't seem to be any bagged loot, just an exceedingly high quantity of loose loot, so that might turn people off if you're looking for good payouts, but for XP this map is very strong, even mayem heists can get you above the 1 million XP mark for the heist.
Lot of fun and a fresh experience.
finally a good map, sad that its poorly optimized right now and my frames crash half of the time. I tried running other maps and it worked fine, so the issue is not my pc. They're pulling a Cyberpunk on us, what a shame.
Edit : They apparently fixed it? Not sure but you can try and refund if it dosent work
A very good long heist. If you plan on doing this on DSOD, you will most likely need both:
-A way to deal high DPS
-A way to sustain your ammo
Yeah, Overkill are running out of ideas when it comes to the closed-level heisting format. This is basically a less interactive Meltdown/semi Beneath the Mountain clone achieved via an escort mission with zero unique ideas or interesting objectives to set this heist apart. It’s a perfectly fine time in loud, but in stealth, it’s not very challenging due to the larger outdoor areas allowing for easy manoeuvrability around hostiles. Since the escorting occurs automatically and all you have to do is clear obstacles, you may find yourself simply waiting around for the next objective while Vlad escapes being carried via a construction vehicle which the enemies and cameras pay zero attention to in stealth, because why not? It’s a pretty short one regardless of the approach you take, taking about 15-20 minutes with very little replayability in terms of objective RNG, and an average payout in terms of money and experience. The new heist track is one of the better songs the game has seen in a while though.
The multi-button find achievement is cool with the bag reward at the end, but the vase achievement is a pain due to there being 40 different spawn locations in hard-to-find locations, and the sniper achievement is currently broken as of writing this review (This is now fixed as of the latest update).
The heist also gives me pretty poor performance in loud, not really holding a consistent frame rate when surrounded by a lot of enemies. Considering I can easily run games like Half Life Alyx and Horizon Zero Dawn at higher and more consistent framerates, I can only conclude that this heist is poorly optimized, and I look forward to celebrating the day when the Diesel Engine is given the mercy killing it has sorely required for years. The latest hotfix did substantially improve performance, though that did not make me enjoy the heist significantly more.
As mentioned in my Breakfast in Tijuana review, I could only recommend buying this heist if:
- You really like PAYDAY 2 and want to help support the development of PAYDAY 3.
- You’re a completionist either in terms of owning all of the content or in terms of achievements.
- The heist is discounted to at least 50%.
Overall, it’s a fine heist, but there’s nothing here you haven’t seen before, and not really worth selecting over many other more unique and challenging maps as part of the base game and the legacy collection. 6/10.
This is a really fun heist in Stealth and loud, which is quite the accomplishment. Good things are that this has some of the best gameplay in a long time, though I was confused why there was a bag drop-off but no bags. I'd recommend this heist, though it is very unoptimized, even on a decent gaming rig I crashed twice.
Can't believe I've been pronouncing Gow Fong incorrectly SMH.
One of the better new heists they've added imo
Bought this shit just to write a review. As always with these new heists ever since Border Crossing, I'd say don't buy, but I am telling this to pd2 community so like whatever.
Long for no good reason, lack of any new objectives (the escort objective just prolongs the heist because fuck you), spawns are horrrendous (although those who willingly play vanilla pd2 will say it's a fair difficulty because you people love to eat shit) and, as always, asset flip (this time from Slaughterhouse, Bomb: Dockyard and Meltdown/Shadow Raid).
Overall 4/10, not as insultingly bad as Dragon (deez nuts on your face) Heist but still lack of new, meaningful ideas.
P.S just as I was about to refund I remembered that I did not mention fucking optimization, that, as always, is beyond shit.
The heist is nice, huge map, though it kinda reminds me of Border crossing because there are almost no new assets.
Stealth is on the easy side. Not too many guards. Involves a little RNG.
Loud is hard. On DSOD snipers shoot you from every angle. Zeal spawns are too much. And in the control room the turret melts your armor and health in a jiffy.
Soundtrack as always is dope af.
The last heist was mostly set in a basement warehouse underneath a really cool and pretty China town street, so this time we're getting yet another warehouse, but it's not just a warehouse - it's FOUR warehouses. On a dock! It's also another breakout heist involving Vlad, the last breakout heist we had was 3 DLC's ago, and it was ALSO involving Vlad!
Okay but seriously this is the most generic, boring setting for a new heist they could've done. We already have a bunch of warehouses. Warehouses are not unique. I was playing this with someone and they genuinely started mixing up all the warehouse heists that were in the game when we were talking about it because of how many there are, and I wasn't even sure which one they were talking about. Stop adding warehouses.
Can we also talk about how this heist makes no sense? The triad are in San Francisco. This heist is set in San Francisco. The triad leader, who isn't mentioned in this heist, or the briefing, or the previous heist, but is INSTEAD mentioned in the developer update, apparently found out that Vlad is somehow connected to the Payday gang. Vlad is based in Washington D.C., which is on the east coast, and San Francisco is on the west coast. You expect me to believe that the triad went across the entire country twice to kidnap a random Ukrainian who might not even be connected to the Payday gang? How did the triad even find out Vlad is connected to the Payday gang? There's no explanation for any of this, it feels like there's supposed to be a heist in between Dragon Heist and this one but we haven't played it.
Also, why the hell is there a gong that instantly sets off the alarm? It doesn't even make a noise. It just swings a little and then the alarm goes off.
Stealth in this game sucks already, why would you add something that forces you to restart? It's literally a trap for anyone who hasn't played the heist before and it makes it easier for people to troll public games.
I don't know if Overkill know what they're doing anymore
Solid hiest, in both loud and stealth.
Loved the heist, both stealth and loud. Stealth was a little too easy only took me on my 3rd try. 10 guards for DSOD was a little low for how large the map was but i wont complain. i didn't have horrendous frame drops either even on loud i expected this to be very unoptimized due to its size but i was surprised by how well it ran so good job OVK
poor vlad though, next dlc heist better be us killing these triad bastards for good, no one messes with vlad
Very fun, both in stealth and loud.
Also quite long and huge map, lot of places to go. I like the planning and I like the options you're given.
Spawnrates on this map (when going loud) are a bit excessive, in my opinion. Rarely had time to breathe.
Overall, really fun and do recommend.
really liked the stealth 10/10
Ukrainian Prisoner Heist is another breakout heist with a friend of the Payday gang, Vlad, from the San Francisco docks. After freeing him, you have to escort him out of the docks and to safety. The heist comes with two new achievements (beside from the difficulty ones), and can be done in Loud or Stealth.
The new heist is a pretty cool one, with plenty of cover in both play styles, and I recommend trying it out some time.
too many spawns on loud, but really good regardless
Music is really good, and it's the only thing that is good. The map deletes all jokers twice soon after you choose the path, you pick right or left 2 times so the game deletes it 2 times. You could have put more effort into it, make it like Prison Nightmare where they can teleport to the next area, same with Beneath the Mountain. Great quality coding, isn't it? Another thing is that they sell cosmetics(Guardian Tailor Pack, which again doesn't worth the money) and Heist separately, while this Heist still remain the same price as the previous ones(Dragon's Heist, which comes with both cosmetics and heist), the map quality and amount of content for this DLC does not worth the price. Most of the map is just containers, the scene is ugly and boring.
Heist has potential, but it has the whole "Sniper Gallore" issue all over again. Additionally this heist has a flood of cops constantly hunting you so yeah, prepare the LMGs cause this will be a blast.
This heist also features invincible triads on the pool of bugs of this game, so yeah.
Heist is ok, but I personally can't recommend it.
Really good heist imo
Pros:
Quick stealth that doesn't really get too boring, since you can get the objectives done really fast if you know how to and where to do your objectives.
Loud has quite cool combat zones, with all weapon types being effective. (I managed to get ~200 kills with a sniper!)
Cons:
FPS is dookie in the main warehouse area.
Swat turret objective is annoying with an uncoordinated team (or just ai).
Achievements are a little bit too out of the way. (Like seriously, who would've just found those buttons in normal gameplay?)
had fun with this one. performed well too(no 5fps)
Very unique and fun in stealth, definitely feels like it was designed more for stealth in mind as loud isn't very interesting.
This Map single-handedly shook off my Burnout for the game and ive been playing since.
Such a good map and no stutters and drops. And music fits so well. I even got EXP Heat from playing it so much lol. Keep it up OVK
Payday really refuses to die, so instead, we get another DLC. Back in 2013 the lore was, that we are this near-invincible, undetectable group of super criminals. Now, in 2021, we really do look like a bunch of clowns. First we lose Bain and now Vlad gets kidnapped out of the blue. How did it happen? Nobody knows. Why did it happen? Nobody knows.
But who cares, when this situation leads to a lot of shooting, right?
Well, you can also sneak around, but who does that? Playing a First Person Shooter to sit around in a corner and sneak around guards is like playing Basketball without a Ball. So as always: I can't comment on the sneak stuff.
But doing it the proper way is a ton of fun and i have to say that this is by far the most sophisticated, diverse, interesting heist Overkill dropped. What happened? For years they were about as creative as a piece of stale bread and now we get this? Multiple paths to chose from? Different ways the mission can play out? So much replayability?
I've done this mission so far three times: Every time Vlad was in a different container, every time the paths were different (and at certain points you can choose 1 of 2 ways to go), in my last playthrough i didn't have to gas the guy in the locked up room, which i had to do before to access the warehouse, this time i just had to hack a computer. This is a crazy amount of variety actually.
And it gets bonus points for giving you the chance to zap Vlad multiple times with a Defibrilator.
And the mission is fun. Tons of cops, you go through warehouses, you fight on a ship and a harbour or you go another route and fight more between crates on roads and it takes long. My main criticism was always how short some of the missions are. 7-8 minutes and done - but not this time, it usually can take up to 20 minutes to finish this just once.
Also the assault music is pretty good, after a string of relative weak stuff after Simon Viklund left (Like that Le Castle Vania crap) things finally make a turn for the good
Also, contrary to other reviews, i didn't encounter any FPS-Drops, which is weird, considering previous heists, like the San Martin Bank stutter a lot, especially in the beginning, while this mission runs smooth all throughout. But nothing should be surprising about this crappy engine anymore.
Let's hope Overkill sticks to this mission style for the future and doesn't go back to tiny, cramped maps.
Absolutely reccommended.
i could find better and more fun community heists
Escort the slow moving object past fifty seven guards and open gates for 20 minutes 4/10
Not perfect, but very replayable.
Bit glitchy, atleast for now, and it makes you work to able to get any loot out.
Recommended only to big fans, it's not at all mandatory.
Vlad: Is in a heist
Russian Players: BLYATTTTTTTTTT
Other Players: Wut
Overkill: Money, money, money is coming
Vlad beaten within an inch of his life in this heist..... I did not know overkill was reading my bucket list. I can't think of too much more that would ever make a better heist.
Love this heist. The best one in a while, topped only by the San Martin bank as far as "new" DLCs go. Fresh stuff, cool concept, unique assets, and I love the kind of choose your own adventure part that makes it feel fresh and like you have autonomy in the feel of the heist. Great stuff, would recommend a buy, and a ton of fun stealth or loud, solo or with friends.
well if u know how to speak cantonese ,then its will be very funny to you , those NPC sometimes will make a joke in cantonese
The Ukrainian Prisoner Heist is a breath of fresh air when it comes to heists. Probably one of the biggest heists map wise with different enough objectives on both loud and stealth that give this heist plenty of replayability. Some negatives that come to mind would be that the stealth is a bit easy. I'm no stealth master but it only took me two tries to beat it on DSOD. But besides that, if you like Payday then you'll love this heist.
The City of Gold has a promising future!
8/10
-Why did you you buy it on day 1?
-THEY TACH DA VLAD!!!
Very nice heist, but the price is a bit high, wish it was 5 or 4 euros instead of 7
Only buy if you want to support the development of Payday 3. This one just ain't worth it, if you're looking for newer heists that are actually worth the money see Buluc's Mansion and San Martin Bank.
The people who claimed this DLC was just 3 warehouses were frauds. It's a large area of a dock, with branching paths, elevation, and more than 3 warehouses. It's well designed too.
What the heckie?? A GOOD heist???!!
it wasnt REALLY remarkable for me considering my fps was jumping from 25-30 the heist itself was a 7/10 the swat van turret objective was just utter garbage the diversity of the heist is remarkable i would play this heist if the fps was not garbage i lowered my res to 1280 720p disabled anti alias anisatropic filtering as much as i would love to play on this heist the older heists are better in fps and they are sometimes challenging too i just bought it for the achievements if you want my reccomendation i would suggest you buy it if you dont have a toaster as your computer my specs were 16gb ram gtx 960m and intel i7 6700 HQ the newer heists never get 60fps above for me since overkill generally just cares about finishing the map rather than optimise it properly TL;DR buy if you have good computer dont buy if you have a potato pc
you brinkh gunh in bank andh yhou get rich
Poorly optimized, kind of boring heist.
Not worth $6.99. Maybe $3.99 max.
Do you remember that time a few years ago when they told there would no longer be any DLCs ? welp me too but I always promised to my buddies that I'll have all of them so we could all play together so take my money I guess
One of my favourite missions. It is fun to stealth with fun objectives. Though it can get a bit annoying in loud
overkill took a big risk by making a heist with actually UNIQUE objectives! crazy
Worth buying just too see how weird Vlads character model looks
good heist looking forward to the next missions in the san fran campaign
MORE TUNES!!!!!!!!
Summary: Ukrainian Prisoner Heist is basically a different version of hoxtons breakout day 1 which is not a bad thing
Positive:
The objectives are not bad honestly, from finding vlad to actually having to revive him to escorting him.
you can pick 2 different path ways in the escorting vlad which in loud make not that much difference but in stealth can have a noticeable effect
Negatives:
payout pretty bad
heist has a swat turret and every heist without a swat turret wouldve been better without one
has very open sections which make DSOD actual hell sometimes.
Overall the heist is pretty fun and better than hox breakouts first day because atleast this heist has cover.
Not really worth the full price, Objectives boil down to: Wait and follow.
Its alright in stealth even tho a bit bullshit if you would do it blind because you have to be detected if you chose poorly.
Loud you just go in and bail him out, wait for the truck to reach a certain destination, do something repeat waiting for the truck.
i went in expecting quite a bad heist, as thats kind of what their dlc was like
but instead i was blown away by an amazing heist that pretty much took hoxton breakout day 1, a heist a lot of people already like, and removed all the bad parts but kept the good parts
The best heist in a while, but is slightly unoptimized.
I really want to like this heist, but all I can it's average for 7 euros.
It's nice to see Vlad returning and this time having to actually rescue him. I think it's develops his character nicely.
However, for 7 dollars. I'm not impressed by this heist.
It's challenging, but not extremely hard and once you know where everything is, it's mostly a breeze even in stealth..
Loud is not that interesting, you hack, you wait, you grab, you kill cops and move to your next objective.
I have huge respect for Overkill, but I advice you to buy this one on a sale.
Russia = poopoo and Ukraine = SWAG
the ukranian prisoner heist is, for some reason, the funniest title i've seen, making it the best heist overkill have ever developed
Guys, vlad is dying, go help him
Good Heist though Optimization problems and Snipers are the annoying part but the heist for the most part good.
Heist is pretty good, reminds me of Hoxton Breakout Day 1. But the soundtrack for this heist is amazing, although the name is... wack.
Great loud heist with some choices to slightly change each run
I rode the forklift, ended up getting stuck.
9/10
Vlad's bare feet are visible during the heist.
