What do I love more then a horror game attempting to be an action shooter but doesn't have the mechanics for it and winds up being a slog fest of running out of ammo repeatedly because enemies have way to much health? I love losing all my progress because a faggot ass speed monster grabbed me while i was climbing and stole 3 chapters worth of progress and my will to ever attempt to play this game again. Mercenaries mode is dumb and I don't want my story mode to be like it.

Salem616

Played on casual difficulty:
The Struggle is additional story content set between Claire's and Barry's chapters in episode 4. The episode plays similar to raid mode with you taking control of Moira and Evgeny fighting against waves of enemies.

The Episode plays out across four stages. Two scavenging stages in which you hunt for supplies, and two survival stages in which you battle against waves of enemies. It's a short episode and shouldn't take much more than 30-60 minutes which feels about right for the game loop.

There are only two difficulties for the episode (Casual and Survivor), limiting the replay value. Enemies are noticeably tougher than in the main campaign but provide a manageable challenge. Fans of Raid Mode or the older Mercenaries type games will likely enjoy the DLC, but the story content is negligible and you can safely skip the episode without feeling like you've missed out on anything significant.

The Struggle is one of the shittiest DLC’s that I’ve ever played. Running about one hour to actually complete, it is a snooze fest full of killing animals and enemies. There isn’t a whole lot to say. The story sucks and serves as a way to tie in the moments between Moira and Barry meeting up in the main episodes. Unless you hate yourself, don’t buy this garbage. Don’t play it. Don’t do anything. Go do something else.

Dire
Dire

Like the other DLC this one is also worth skipping ... it's taken the worst parts of any RE game, wave-based enemies, and takes away the best parts, the horror elements.

You will "scavenge" twice, then survive hordes of enemies twice. Then the DLC is done. Maybe you die in between and you lose a "try" in the form of food you had to hunt beforehand. Only that in the 2nd scavenge mission there's barely any food left and if you get seen by even one of the enemies, even though you could beat them, the timer goes down to 30 seconds and you screw yourself over for the finale, because you won't have enough ammo/guns/healing to survive. And if you run out of food, go start from the very beginning... Great game design.

Oh, and the story is pointless. We get very little insight into how Moira survived... and it's not really all that surprising, to be honest.

Good idea, bad execution with gamebreaking bugs. Didnt mind the timer, but the gameplay time is way too short, the mechanics too shallow and barebones- clearly made in a hurry. Should have been quadruple the size, really.
Some okay writing, but theres just too little. Not enough time was devoted to both Moiras self-reflection and Moira-Evgeny relationship.
The stealth section is bugged and nearly unplayable.

Lonely Soldier

Ok this DLC started out really good, by the third chapter it got broken and hard as fuck. Broken stealth and enemy ai, a dumb ass timer to gather shit and if you get seen it drops to 30secs are you fucking kidding me?! THE ENEMIES CAN SEE ME WHEN I'M SNEAKING UP BEHIND THEM??????????? What the hell even is this shit? Nice buggy DLC. Such garbage. Not only do you have the buggy ai shit but also lives on top of that and having to completely restart the entire DLC? Worst idea ever.

I don't know who at Capcom pooped out this awful so called DLC. Reuses levels from the main game with no changes. Adds poorly implemented hunting mechanics. Literally RE trying to be Cabella's. Has a timer to break all immersion and enemies spawn directly in front of you. You can literally watch them just materalise in from of you. Plus each area tells you the exact amount of enemies you need to kill. The DLC is only 50 minutes long and I still couldn't finish it. Literally going to give this a 0/10. Shame cause the base game is pretty good.

Daes
Daes

Damn, this sucks. So in this DLC you play as Moira and the old man from the sewers trying to survive in the island for as long as possible.
Now, that may sound like a great concept, and it is!
But how's the execution? Absolutely terrible. So you first start the game and you get to pick between easy and hard... that's great right? So you choose hard because you think that easy might be too easy. What could go wrong?

And the first section of the DLC is actually pretty fun. You go around the forest with the old man, you have some limited time to hunt down some animals to get food, which you later learn acts as basically a lives system. This doesn't sound bad at first, until you realize you can only have up to 5 lives, and it really takes a lot of animals to fill that up. Oh well, you probably won't need more, right?

So then you get to the second section, and suddenly the game decides it hates you. Enemy after enemy after enemy, all of them are bullet sponges and pretty much never get stunned when you shoot them. But it doesn't stop there, of course not, the game spawns one of the bosses like 3 times. And by the time you get close to the end, you run out of bullets. And where do you get more bullets? In the first section of the game, of course! But now you can't go back.
Eventually, you end up losing all your lives, and you don't get to replenish them because there are no rats or anything where you respawn.

So what happens when you run out of lives? You lose ALL your progress! Great! It's like an Nes game, very limited lives, only getting easy and hard difficulty levels, and if you run out of lives, you go back to the start. No continues.

And so, you go back to the start of the game, and this time, you make sure to grab every single item you can find, and not waste a single bullet on any enemy. Or at least, that's what I did. I used Moira's flashlight all the time and then hit the enemies with the crowbar. Which works... sometimes, other times they just refuse to get stunned and just hit you. I finished the first section being nearly dead, but thankfully the game replenishes all your health after each chapter.

Now you're back at the sewers. You manage to just barely survive, with no healing items left, barely any bullets and probably only like 2 lives. But at least you got through the worse, right? I mean, what could be worse than having to fight 3 of the fireball guys?

A stealth section. With the wiggly jelly guys from Barry's campaign. Great! So you try to go around silently, find some animals which always run away as soon as you get close to them, so no extra lives for you. And then you get spotted by one of the monsters through a fence while you couldn't see them. Nice! So what happens when you get spotted? You get 20 seconds to run to... some spot. Which spots? I have no clue. You'll never get there anyways, because these things run much faster than you can.
Well, to be fair, I did get to the spot once. It's that path that goes uphill. Problem is, I got there at the exact same time the timer ran out. Moira started to talk as if I had just barely managed to get there, but the game still told me I had run out of time and had to restart.

And of course, once you run out of lives, it's back to the very beginning. By then you'll think to just switch to easy mode. But I have a better idea, how about you switch to a better fucking game? Or play raid mode.

So yeah, it ain't worth it, unless you hate yourself. If you thought you were gonna get some kind of survival-like dlc, you'll be completely disappointed. The whole survival mechanic is just an excuse to extend the playtime by making you have to start the dlc all over if you run out of lives.

Pros:
The premise is interesting, I was interested in knowing Moira's side of the story.
Cons:
They really don't do much with it, story was a big letdown. The gameplay is just on maps ripped from the main game, and the levels are strangely a lot more difficult than anything in the main game. Not really worth the time, although the playtime is very short. Also the lives system is dookey and doesn't add anything to the chapter.

Paciorr
Paciorr

Doesn't add anything interesting storywise and gameplay is more stressful than enjoyable. Ammo is scarce AF it's very easy to lose lifes because some things can one shot you or you simply lose because you got noticed etc. and if you die a number of times during the whole DLC gameplay which can probably take up to 2h you have to start from the beginning... and you won't want to do that trust me.

Coleco_84
Coleco_84

Around half hour of boring gameplay, go to previous areas and kill all enemies...and thats it. Very lazy DLC.

Crusader_bin
Crusader_bin

Tiny bit of story, which is interresting, especially since food mechanic was added. Overall this is not much besides hard survival mode, but it is enjoyable enough. You either hunt for food, clear waves of enemies or move stealthy. I like it as a part of the whole game, but if you would buy each season/DLC separately, than this isn't worth much on it's own. You wouldn't regret getting it if you liked the game a lot though. If you were bored, than skip it.

Nobug
Nobug

Short, but fun, with good BP payout and an interesting story. On Survival, it makes great practice in dealing with enemies quickly and effectively. It's a little overpriced, but it's a DLC anyone who enjoyed RER2 should have.

rjmacready
rjmacready

Er, what? So...Moira is now more than happy to use GUNS, after spending the entirety of the main game annoying the heck out of us by stubbornly REFUSING to use them (granted, for fairly decent psychological/character reasons)?! And...we're just gonna revisit areas we've been before, only with tonnes more enemies, and RABBITS we have to kill for food/retries (since we have no saves)?!?

A frankly appalling DLC, which basically undoes all the good work the main game did in returning the RE franchise to something at least close to its former glories. Cheap 'n' nasty, completely unnecessary, and only recommended to those who like Raid Mode/Mercenaries-style nonsense that reduce horror games to run 'n' gun fests.

Though I suppose if you bought the "Complete Season" pack like I did, it's technically "free". Sorta. Kinda. I think. Dear God, please tell me I didn't actually PAY for this nonsense..!

Verdict: 4/10.

Akira49

Lol. The dlc is fine but teleporting from locations on one map is hell of annoying. I like that moira becomes one woman army. (she could grow hair and she'd be actually attractive).
Still the dlc is quite good. It just fills the story hole between Moira being abandoned and finding her father 6 months later.

Sneaky Banana Man
Sneaky Banana Man

It's good. It lets you know about what Moira was doing during the 6 month in-between during the story.

It's fairly short, but it's got the ration mechanic where you hunt you own food for retries in missions.

But holy shit screw part 3. Stealth kills are broken on that part. Literally went to kill a few different revenants during that part and they did a 180, bitch slapped me, and made me their bitch in a nanosecond. Needless to say, I lost all my retries doing this because I'm stubborn.

S'aight.

Resident Evil Revelations 2: The Struggle - 9/10

- BUYER BEWARE but RECOMMENDED as part of the whole

Review of The struggle:
While Little Miss was not much a challenge, but still had a creepy atmosphere, this one requires skill. I loved the idea, that you have to earn yourself your "lives" or "continues", you have to go for a hunt, shoot and collect game and fill up max 5 bags. The amount of bags is the amount of retries you get later on, when it gets real tough. The later segments are very hectic, require skill, and sometimes learning the spawn-points of the enemy.
The downside is, that there is not much cut scenes to tell the story (similar like with Little Miss) but what is there is sufficient. I cannot recommend the two bonus episodes IF you have to pay for them separate, but if you got them "for free" as part of the package then definetley both are worth your time.

Final Verdict: 9/10 - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Buy it when its on sale. Only thing that's worthy for this DLC is unlocking a raid mode character. Sadly you have to complete the DLC to unlock said character.

I tried playing this DLC on my toaster laptop and the game froze the moment I shot something.

This dlc is only worth buying because of Evgeny,to unlock him on Raid Mode, the dlc it self (the episode) is not that good. It's short and it has a very sad ending, another character thrown away for nothing, because capcom loves to make characters that just aren't memorable. 5/10 Evgeny op.

Saladofstones

This had a lot more potential than was actually used. A sort of omega-man 'hunt by day, survive by night' vibe. Unfortunately, its 4 stages, the first being a hunting stage, the second being a sort of wave defense, the third being a stealth stage that is incredibly easy to fuck up and have to abort, and a final stage which is also a wave defense.

Evgeny is a pretty good character and considering I got it for free ages ago, I can't complain. Its one of those cases where if it lasted longer, it'd work better

First off a forewarning. This DLC is only applicable if you got the good ending with Morria surviving. Now with that being said the DLC serves as a way to help fill in the blanks as to what Morria was doing for those six months and in the lead up to her and Barry reuniting. For the most part it uses the same general framework as the main game but with a few twists. Retry's are not unlimited here as they are tied to hunting food to get full bags which give you retry's. Run out and your save file is gone. As in gets ereased for the game. So keep in that in mind if you decide to play on a the games higher difficulty. As a hole package it only really adds about 40mins-1hr's worth of content. This DLC is largely not pivotal to answering all the questions that arise from her six month saga on the island post tower collapse so you're not really missing anything if you decide to pass on it.

StarPatriot

Not worth playing. Frustrating survival mechanic that erases your progress if you fail. Part three's stealth section is highly punishing and coupled with the fail state it's more annoying than challenging.

Fahrenheist

I can't, with clear conscience, recommend this DLC. While I really liked the original Revelations 2, the Struggle exists for one reason only and that is to establish which of the 2 endings of the original game is the canonical one. It is not an enjoyable experience for multiple different reasons:

- Not only is the DLC short by itself, it artificially shortens the lenght of it by making half of the missions timed.... awesome
- There is a mechanic with collecting meat for supplies which, when you run out of them due to dying, will erase your save. This would have worked really nicely, should the game let you approach situations from different angles but no - there is only one way to solve things and if you dare going against hard-set rules - the punishment is failing.
- Horribly unbalanced - on Survival the game is nonsensically hard and the AI is basically cheating to kill you while Casual can be played with eyes closed. Great.

Just do yourself a favour and don't buy it. If you are interested in the story - just watch cutscenes on Youtube.

Survival mechanic is absolute trash

The Struggle is a horrible DLC. Besides the fact that out of the four levels, two of them can be skipped, it offers nothing of notoriety. Honestly, there is no reason to play this.

Pariah

Revelations is already a pretty bad game. Probably the second worst in the RE franchise, which is a shame because Revelations 1 was quite good. Then there is this DLC. Calling it garbage would be an insult to trash everywhere. Like timers? Enjoy half a$$ stealth? Love clunky combat? The struggle combines all this for an awful gaming experience. Don't bother.

Button Eyes

The Struggle is an extra episode for Resident Evil: Revelations 2, set some time after Claire's episode 4. Here you play as Moira Burton and Evgeny Rebic, the old man who briefly appears in the sewers in the main game. The story took place in the few months before Barry's journey to the island, and Evgeny is training Moira about how to survive. Moira can use guns in this episode, effectively making both her and Evgeny fighters. However, Evgeny can only use his sniper rifle, so it is recommended to use him as heavy damage support.

A new feature in this episode is the addition of survival currency in the form of animal meat. Some stages act as hunting grounds, where you kill animals and loot them to increase the amount of meat you have. Some animals also appear in the non-hunting stages, and still lootable. Every time you die, a bag of animal meat is removed, and if all bags are finished, you must replay the episode from the beginning. Worry not, for the stages aren't really difficult with plenty of ammo and healing, except the part where you must stealth around the village.

While this episode is not necessary for the main story, in my opinion it's still important because it explains what happens to Moira after Claire's episode, which was never explained nor mentioned. The stealth section would be more enjoyable if getting detected doesn't instantly fail you, but force you into combat. If you have problem with stealth it could be difficult, even worse because that section is near the end of the episode.

In typical RE Optional Content fashion, The Struggle tries some weird stuff and some of it works, some of it doesn't. I'm on the fence overall but I think it's a cautious thumbs-up here.

The Struggle is more of the combat content from the main game played over 4 parts, but with two new twists:

1- A coin-drop mechanic where rations are required to retry from a checkpoint if Moira dies.
2- Two timed scavenging levels, where your goal is to collect as many resources and rations as you can without being spotted by zombies.

Separately, these features are weird in the context of Revelations 2's usual gameplay loop, but they also worked together for what turned into probably the tensest moment I've experienced in the entire game: being spotted early forced my wife and I to skip scavenging and advance to the climactic chapter with nearly no ammo. We cleared with the last bullet we had to our names. It was awesome and exhilarating.

Some criticisms in no particular order:
- there's no "Normal" difficulty, only "Casual" and "Survivor". Survivor is really tough. Casual is a cakewalk. It really could have used a middle one.
- the dialog is cute and funny but also really annoying if you have to retry a section. More than 1 save point per area would have alleviated this.
- Evgeny is immortal so long as Moira can pick him up. We didn't use him as a meat shield as much as we could have, but it was still pretty cheesy at times.

In conclusion, I applaud the Resident Evil team for continuing to take risks and try weird stuff in optional content. Without weird ideas like this, we wouldn't have had The Mercenaries, Raid Mode, or that weird Vs. mode that sticks around even though the servers always seem to be dead. I think the promise of innovation alone is reason to give this at least a look.

Extra Episode: The Struggle is a boring waste of time of a DLC that doesn’t add to the plot nor does it add anything new or interesting whatsoever. Basically you just play as Moria during her separation from Claire in the good ending of the game and explain how she survived on the island for 6 months. Moira can use guns now and just basically back tracks through previous maps of the main game killing a specific amount of enemies or just hunting. Pretty boring and not really worth playing imo.

+Moira can use all the guns now and is basically Claire but with a flashlight
+Can still use Moira’s flashlight
+Can kick enemies like Claire
+New hunting mechanic where you have to hunt down animals for food which act as lives. When you run out of food your game is officially over no matter where you are in the game
+Rogue like
+Short
+Rocket launcher
+Gives a ton of points for skills/unlockables

-Very short and uneventful you just backtrack through maps you’ve already been through and just kill a specific amount of enemies in order to progress almost if like a glorified Raid mode
-No new maps it all just go back through the same maps as the main campaign
-At the end of every part the screen just goes black with Moria explaining her thoughts
-No real progression through levels you are basically stuck to a specific portion of the map and after you complete the objective you are teleported to another locked section, etc. this happens about 3-4 times per map then the level ends
-Plot hole or am I missing something? Moria’s bracelet is red the entire time meaning she's become so full of fear she should turn into a monster. Yet she doesn’t and this is never explained why she is just ig… immune? Protagonist plot armor ig…

Not worth buying whatsoever you can easily just assume Moria survived on her own and used guns from the good ending as this DLC doesn’t even explain anything that we wouldn’t already know. The end game credits even show scenes of Moira with the old man hunting together. Aside from the story the gameplay is just raid mode but in campaign. I mean, how boring honestly…

May be a barely decent purchase on sale if you enjoyed the main game's gameplay, but as a whole it's a complete fail, and very short to boot.

3 subpar mini-levels: 2 combat and 1 awful forced stealth section. The combat levels are tolerable but it's basically raid mode: you just kill a certain number of enemies then teleport to the next part of the map. And the maps are copy-pasted environments from the main game. The writing is ok with some nice character moments but it certainly adds nothing essential to the game.

But the worst thing is the difficulty settings. For some inconceivable reason, you can only play on Casual or Survival - Normal isn't an option. This is awful because most players will probably find Survival frustrating (especially with the limited retries food system that's unique to this DLC) and Casual trivially easy. Idk wtf they were thinking.

Somnus

The Struggle covers the six months after you get separated from Moira. There is a bit of narration explaining some story bits not in the main game. I do not think this is really essential to the experience if that's what you're looking for. You can skip it and not miss much.

Gameplay wise this isn't very good. You have to gather meat for retries. If you are out of meat when you die, you have to go back to the main menu and start again. Not that it's hard enough for there to be a risk of dying five times in a row. Each level consists of either holding out while waves of enemies attack, or hunting rabbits, giant spiders, and snakes. The catch is that some levels have time limits. Run out of time and you lose a life.

Overall I wouldn't really recommend playing this DLC. Watch the cutscenes on youtube if you really want.

Dani the Ash's…

It is a short DLC, but with a nice story about Moira's side, which reveals that she isn't dead after all. We also get to know a bit better about the old man from the Episode 3's sewers.

The timed challenges were fun, and about the wave ones, I just was disliking the last one until I got the hang of where the monsters spawned. Hunting animals to fill the bags with meat, just so we can have "lives" to retry the missions, was a nice touch, in my opinion.
