Thraxis, Lord of Chaos
Thraxis, Lord …

I'm writing this review while using the characters for the first time, to record my initial thoughts. Overall, the characters play a bit differently than RWBY, and Pyrrha and Ren especially are quite fun to play, imho. They don't seem overpowered, in fact, I would predict that there will be few Jaunes, but an even number of the other characters with RWBY after the novelty wears off. For me, this is worth the $5 price tag.

Now, for my notes on each character individually, given ~1 hour of play (total) with the 4:

Pyrrha
+ Light attack combos. Especially since you can upgrade her basic combo, you can actually use light attacks effectively without heavy attack finishers, and can easily change targets in the middle of the combos.
+ Ranged counter. Having a ranged counter, to counter without leaving your current target, is great.
- No sword. Her weapon is always in spear or gun configuration. This isn't horrible, but I was hoping to see one move where it was a sword.
-Really slow team attacks. Seriously, they take like half a year to execute.

Nora
+ Powerful ranged attack. The power of her ranged attack seems to be similar in power to Weiss's ranged. She trades freezing and homing for indirect fire and landmines, though.
+ Generally powerful attacks, similar to Yang.
+ It's Nora.
- Slow and somewhat awkward attacks. She probably has the slowest attacks in the game.

Ren
+ Good character for maneuvering (like Blake, but less so)
+ Packs a punch (like Yang)
+ Really interesting ultimate (multi-target, non-AoE)
- Powerful charged Heavy attack requires Aura to use (after upgrade)
- Ranged is a bit meh (and can't be upgraded)

Jaune
... and Jaune! (kidding)
+ Powerful basic attacks
+ Great team bonuses (though short lived)
+ Shield bash is interesting
- Poor dodging skills
- No ranged attack
- Slow speed (and slow dodge)

Ren doesn't suck and Pyrrha's not dead. Roosterteeth should really get on track with its own series lore.

Nightmare of Solomon

Absolutely worth 5€.

With this DLC, there is actually some variety in the gameplay of different characters. While everyone in Team RWBY plays pretty much the same "Hack'n'Slash like you don't care"-style except for Weiss, we have a whole different role behaviour in Team JNPR.

Juane plays a supporter role, which is actually pretty weird for a Leader. His ult actually buffs your allies and yourself. Juane is also the only character in the game that has no gun whatsoever.

Noras weapon swings slower than any other character, therefore she does damage that is out of this world. Be careful around this badass!

Pyrrah is exactly as OP as she should be. Her spear swings fast and strong, her ult does damage like fuck and she counters enemies without teleporting into the danger zone. Absolutely useful and still cute. Everyone should love her.

Rens attacks focus on range, given that he weilds 2 pistols. He does a decent amount of close range damage, but his ranged attacks are far more useful as they damage bigger groups of enemies instead of just one enemy at a time. Also, his taunt is fucking hilarious.

CONCLUSION:
Thank you very much for this amazing update Roosterteeth. Keep up the good work! Please play around more with the game, let us play more levels and characters, and this amazing arcade slasher will be even more of a total hit!

The characters are varied and unique feeling, unlike the original cast. Also you have different things to level up other than just ulti, team attack, and ranged (for example, Ren is able to upgrade his charged heavy attack to do massive aoe and stun.) Would highly recommend this to improve your experience.

Team JNPR DLC gives you 4 more characters to play as, each with their unique playstyles giving some additional fun to this game. Having Miss Nikos alone alive is worth the price of admission, however I do note that some of the voiceactors seem off....maybe its me.

All in all...extends the life of the base game.

When I heard this DLC had come out I was like "YES!" and like an excitable little filly, I bought and played the individual characters and I thought they were great!

But let me clarify, this DLC does nothing to improve the overall play of the game, it is bassically a four dollar update that adds 4 new characters, indeed a character pack. It does exactly what we want, and that is add all members of team JNPR, they each play differently, they each have their own strengths and weaknesses but they do little to be anything more than to add more variety.

You are better off experiencing the pros and cons for yourself as this is a DLC and really they don't bring a whole lot more to the table than team RWBY but they do make the game seem bigger.

I do have two major gripes with this DLC and that involves the textures on Jaun Arc and Pyrrha Niko's faces which from a distance seem to glow red. Jaun's face look's as if it was hastily thrown together and even looks a very light shade of red from afar in some lights, and Pyrrha's face glow a bright red around the eyes and sometimes changes her eye color in certain lights or from a distance. That could do with some small fixing if that is at all possible.

I haven't listened to the voice acting too well so I don't have too much of a comment on that other than it could be better. From what I did hear it sounded like the actors were bored which is ashame seeing as how their characters are voiced very well on the show, sadly the actors seem to share the Team RWBY actresses problem of not sounding so up to the task. I will update this section after I've heard more.

Other than this, if you are a Team JNPR fan I do highly reccomend buying this DLC, it's cheap but my reccomendation could change if the price is upped without a clearly stated reason. Other than that it's perfect.

I've been waiting for this for a while, and it was definitely worth it. The new characters feel similar, but not the same, and they all synergize easily and extremely well.

The only complaint I could see is that Nora is pretty freaking overpowered, but it's not game-breaking.

Broadsword
Broadsword

JNPR is without doubt one of the best improvements made to the game. It is not a matter of simply having added new characters, these characters have the right sort of moves where they need them to create interesting flow, a feature that's been sorely lacking in RWBY: Grimm Eclipse.

I have been highly critical when it comes to the combat presented by Grimm Eclipse. I am still critical; however, that said, JNPR is a step in the right direction that is only held back by prior limitations and a minor handful of things that could be done better - but only slightly so.

While it is unfortunate this has come post early-access, since I think these characters - this flow - would have improved the game significantly and made the game have a warmer reception, it is still very satisfying.

I am biased because I made a lot of suggestions that went into this, but seriously, get it. Support the developers, support the game, and vote with your money to say that this is the sort of stuff you want in a RWBY game to the developers.

Seras Victoria

Loving the new characters and their unique play styles, which truely sets them appart from RWBY. I also love the voice acting of all the characters, exspecially Nora's. I love Nora's taunt animation, and the fact of how cool she is to play as a character. I find that hitting with the grenades is slightly difficult, but worth it, just by watching the carnage.
Ren is possibly my favourite character out of all of them. His speedy attacks, his rediculously fun ultimate, as well as his downed animation when defeated. Overall, a really fun character to play.
Jaune is great fun to play, exspessialy when when you unleash his ultimat and get that sweet damage boost against a horde of enemies.
And the only thing to say about Pyrrha's character is, SHE IS ALIVE and killing the grimm and stuff. Which is great.
Overall, a great piece of DLC, and totally worth the £4.00 price tag. Can't go wrong with playing as JNPR.

I got the game when it was still $10, so I do think that, given the price raise, this DLC should've been free. However, since it's not, I will say that it is 100% worth the extra $5.

Even as someone who, in the show, likes Team RWBY a lot more than JNPR, I really, really enjoy this DLC, and the playstyles for the new characters are all different, so there's something for everyone.

Shuc49

They've really done well with team JNPR. Each member has a defined role and a very distinct play style, unlike team RWBY in which all the members feels very similar. JNPR is absolutley fun to play and definately worth the price.

The characters are all voiced by the people we know them for and they all have their own fun styles and give the game extra playability. I really enjoy this piece of work, especially if it goes towards putting more effort into more content in the future and for such a reasonable price.

Here's to hoping more of the teams become playable or more levels are released!

Royal Flame
Royal Flame

Each character provides a new role and play style to the game. This DLC is a must have for any RWBY fan. Though i will admit the original game could have been better and have given the main RWBY cast more variety. This DLC helps someone take a new fresh outlook on things and make for some super intersting teams. One being a team of 3 Yangs and Jaune. O BOY THE LUCKY DOG!!! They destroy EVERYTHING in thier path and don't even get me started on a team of Nora's.... O god its a scary thought.

Lets being with Jaune. The leader of JNPR. He is first and foremost a support type character who can most defintly play the role of a battle medic will. He can help his team by buffing them with speed and strength. With the correct build he can also take out the damage and dish it himself while helping revive fallen team mates. Great for people who want to help thier team instead of killing alot of Grimm. Not to mention his team mates can help build his ultimate with one of his skills. GREAT for horde mode.

Now let us move on to Pyarrha. O BOY did you do a number on us in volume 3 sweet heart. Atleast here she isnt a pile of ash. She is by the most combo orieneted character who is very balanced. She goes great offesively and defensively. She can either take out LOTS of grimm with her ultimate especially when buffed by a Jaune and can help protect team mates who are in danger since her speed and roll is good. She is a character thats good for those who prefer close combat.

Now to the lovable Nora. Now this character is a hit or miss for some. She is very great at putting out heavy damage to Grimm and hits like a god damn TRUCK! Let me say this again. LIKE A TRUCK! She is great for those who are looking to give some Grimm a bad day. I can't even begin to count how many legs she has broken. HOWEVER SHE IS SLOW! Her moves are clunky and a little weird to controll. If your pacient with her she will most defintly be a SUPER good character.

Now finally Ren. The senpai who will never notice Nora.(Sorry nora but one day) He is a effective bob and weave character. Good for outputing a lot of damage and escaping. Please note that he is my least played character. Though he has alot of potential for being probably the best character in the game. He is very good and can easily wipe out grimm. He can escape just like a ninja( cough cough Blake)

In conclusion they are worth buying. sure some people say that they should have been free but honestly you should have just bought the game in early access. Still with the way steam work Rooster Teeth loses some of the money because a part of it goes to Steam. So this is why it costs this much. If your willing to cough up the 5 extra bucks go for it. They are very fun and can be worth getting. Atleast they arent similar like team RWBY. Anyway hope my review was good!!!! TOODLES!

They here! At long last, you too can finally fill that Pyrrha-shaped hole in your Pyrrha-shaped heart!

Accordingly, my first game was a solo playthrough on Eclipse difficulty as Pyrrha (so I could sample her playstlye without someone else stealing her.)

Combat seems to have been updated with the ability to counter enemies (can't remember if this was here during my last playthrough as Weiss.)
It's a nice feature but only moderately useful in actual combat and certainly nothing so satisfying and responsive as, say countering enemies in Arkam Asylum (although giving the gang Batman-level reflexes would skew the difficulty just a touch.)
When an enemy winds up for an attack, an icon will appear above thier head propmpting you to, in Pyrrha's case, throw your shield at them, stunning them for a few seconds.
Sounds good, but problems arise when you are beset by multiple Grimm (I.E constantly) and they all attack in quick succession. The counter icon will only appear above the first Grimm in the sequence, which isn't nessessarily the closest one, so naturally you'll wind up stunning the Grimm that can't reach you and getting your face torn off by the ones that can. This all means that the dodge roll is stil you're most stalwart means of defense.
The Benny Hill antics must continue, it would seem.

Pyrrha also comes equiped with team attack and an ultimate. The Ultimate is a crowed-control attack that you will want to spam as much as possible.
The team attack, which doesn't actually require a team-mate in order to be used, is a javellin throw inwhich Pyrrha throws her spear at a target and then uses her magneto-powers to launch herself towards it so she can retreive it. Does a fair abount of damage but can only be perfomed while an enemy has a certain icon above them, which sometimes happens when you combo-attack them, but I've not gotten it to happen consistently.
Usually does enough damage to finish an enemy off, but is very very impractical because the animation takes a split second overwhich you are vulnerable to attack. Great when there isn't a grimm winding up for an attck next to that particular grimm (never.) A great way to get your pretty little face eaten at all other times.

I reccomend the devs fix this by either:
A. Giving the attack some minor splash damage in the form of a burst of magnetism. It doesn't have to be much, since the attack is already powerful; no damage at all would be fine as long as it makes the surronding grimm flinch. Pyyrha is supposed to be a smart fighter. Why would she through herself into a horde of enemies while leaving herself exposed to attack? You don't want your main weapon to lodge itself in the body of your opponent for this exact reason: because having to retreive it presents an opening.

B. Making Pyyrha invulnerable for the duration of the animation as was done with her ultimate. Kind of cheesy, but it would work.

Otherwise, the player is stuck either not using the team attack or using it only very rarely when a particular grimm is isolated or there aren't many around in general. Which isn't fun.

Pyrrha's basic attacks include an array of spear and shield thrusts which usually ends in an AoE attack. Useful for very tightly packed hordes, but oftentimes the grimm can telegraph thier attacks from just outside it's radius, allowing them to attack with impunity. Would be great if I could expand it's radius by leveling up. (Which may well be possible since I haven't gotten the third combo upgrade.)

Other than that, the only gripe I have is the camera, which despite haveing total control over I can never seem to position in the correct spot. The ground-burrowing grimm often manage to blindside me, but that could just be my fault.

I've also been getting some strange graphical faults that don't show up on my screenshots for some reason.

All that aside, I'm just glad to see the project is comming along well.

Nice fan favorite addition to mix up the game's play style. Gives the game a long needed variety for how long it's been playable for. There's also word saying if the DLC does well, more content might be added down the line.

This DLC is good, it brings a variety of combat styles to the game with much improved gameplay mechanics. There is a lot of diversity within their respective skilltrees that you can customize to fit your play style. This is a must have for fans of the show and owners of the game. Thing is though it REALLY is a must have, allow me to explain.

First off I'm giving this a thumbs down. As of now team RWBY lacks the diversity and improved combat mechanics like JNPR, they are fairly bland and some borderline unplayable due to design decisions that don't mesh well with eachother.

This has all been remedied in the JNPR dlc. This doesn't sit well with me because us players have to pay in order to play the new updated combat. These concepts should have been applied to team RWBY in the first place. They are the MAIN characters of the game for goodness sake, leaving them behind in terms of gameplay, leaving them "bland", is a crappy thing to do.

During early access team RWBY went through one iteration of combat changes, it wasn't well received and greeted with mixed reviews. But that was it. It was just that one patch to update the combat and no further modifications were done because they had other stuff to work on, *cough* JNPR *cough* (and horde mode).

This further upsets me because the dev's have stated "it is highly unlikely" they are willing to go back and update team RWBY because they don't like "re-tracing steps". This is not an acceptable excuse.

Billdozer
Billdozer

The characters are well made, balanced, and play to their own strengths. RT Games definitely stepped it up with making quality characters to play that feel unique and fun. Horde mode (which is free with the base game, but did come out at the same time as this DLC) is excellent and more enjoyable than the Campaign.

My only gripe with this DLC, which has been stated in many other reviews, is that Team JNPR absolutely outclasses Team RWBY. I wish they would take this experience back to the drawing board and redo team RWBY. If not, maybe add a "Time-Skip" set of characters for RWBY in the future that fixes them. I honestly do not even enjoy playing Team RWBY anymore with Team JNPR as a much better, and honestly more enjoyable, option.

Gofigure75
Gofigure75

OMG! These characters are super well done! I hope more content is released that is as good as this.

If you are a fan of the show then you will probably love this DLC of the characters. Makes you feel you are are a world class fighter like Pyrrha, a ninja like Ren, a female Thor like Nora, and well...we have Jaune. Super well put fighting mechanics, and I love the diversity it brings to the game...and well, Jaune. I wish there was a JNPR level or side quest that came with it to expand it, however that is not the case.

If you have no interest in the show then you may want to wait on this one, and see how you like playing with others in game before deciding to purchase it. I suggest watching some gameplay too to help decide. Also this is just the 4 characters and nothing else.

Saber Kairi Nova

it's very good and i love how JNPR is actually balanced out even if Nora's ultimate attack is really slow to start and leaves you open to attacks alot, would be great if they etither updated teh RWBY combat mechanics so that it isn't so bland and generic seeing as RWBY all you basically got to do is the same ol' left, left, right {Light, light, heavy} attack combo for 99% over the enemies and fail to capture their actual styles like the JNPR DLC does, overall i give it a 9/10 mainly because of Nora's ultimate's slow start up leaving her open to attacks and the game overall a 7/10 due to the recent fullscreen game crashes that have been happening and the bland and generic fighting of RWBY who can really use a update themselves even if the programers don't want to 'back track' to update the team RWBY combat coding mecanics

I have never written a review before, but I just have to express how happy I am to see that they are adding more characters. I love team RWBY, but I had always wanted more characters, even if they had to be in a DLC that we'd have to purchase. There is that aspect of the game which everyone enjoys with the story and playing your favourite characters from the show but the gameplay is so boring. All you're doing is going into a new area defeating a set amount of enemies, you might be defending something you don't know and battling through waves. It's the same thing over and over again. If you are obsessed witht he show then go ahead and buy the game but if you care for gameplay then you better love repeating the same thing over and over again. A good DLC pack. JNPR is much more diverse than Team RWBY. Nora's slower but stronger attacks, and OP ranged attacks. Pyrrha sucks at ranged, but her melee is quick and strong. Plus, five bucks for the 4 new characters? It's a decent price.

I made a huge mistake, buying this DLC.

After playing as this game over multiple times, I was first excited when I heard that Team JNPR, which has some of my favorite characters in the show, was coming to the game.

But there were a few problems with this...

1) Adding DLC to an unfinished and uninspired game
2) Pricing it at $4.99!?!?

And to add insult to injury, the team isn't as good as you would think. They tried to add team elements to JNPR to actually try and add some sort of interest or challenge into the game. This is peachy and all, but when it comes down to brass tax, would you rather be the overpowered team RWBY and kill everything fast, or just try and do 'team' things with team JNPR? Waste of money, wouldn't recommend

Team JNPR adds A LOT to the game. They play very differently than RWBY, still repetitive, but different; new voice lines; 6 achievements; Pyrrha is alive; Jaune isn't useless.

It's about the same as what I said about the base game; if you are a fan of the series and want more, it's a good idea to buy this DLC. If you didn't like the core game, JNPR won't help it.

Makes me want more character packs. Like one with cinder or one with the profeesors. Or one with penny. Just more teams.

I love this dlc and this game, I would recommend it to any RWBY fans and maybe some newcomers!

Having Team JNPR is awesome! Jaune's Range could use some help from Pyrrha, but is neat too.

This team enhances the experience and gives you more options and ways to grow in the game.

Definitely picked this up at the right time.

It unlocks the team JNPR to play with: Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren!

Jaune is a good support.

Nora blows everything up and even says "Boop" often, and that's so Nora.

Pyrrha might seem weak gameplay-wise, but her Ultimate is hella strong.

Ren has awesome attack combos.
