As a fan of sega I consider quite cool to have this well known sega emblematic character in sonic racing even if i don't know Shemue games so much.
Hey Sega, I bought this silly DLC to show my support for the Shenmue franchise. Give us a new game. Test the waters with a downloadable HD re-release of the first two if you want. One way or another, please make some moves or sell the rights to someone who will (Yu Suzuki).
Ryo has similar stats to the TF2 cast except some miner diffrences, the biggest one being ALL star mode, I really enjoy this character and his kart design.
And that's it really, if you enjoy whatever game Ryo is from (I'm sorry idk where he's from) and the TF2 cast, grab this pack.
Thanks for Ryo Hazuki, Metal Sonic and Yogscast. Im so much enjoy this DLC. Please make more DLC from other games... :)
why you should get this dlc:
1. you ride in a an outrun arcade cabinet
2. forklift all-star move
3. possibility of a shenmue rerelease on steam
4. did i mention you ride in an arcade cabinet
5. possibly shenmue 3 eventually (EDIT: IT'S HAPPENING: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3)
at a dollar and sixty cents i'd say it's a good investment.
His license plate says SHEN 3...
10/10 would give myself false hope again.
Edit: Oh my Fucking god, Oh my Fucking god...
It was announced RIGHT AFTER I posted this review...
You guys should thank me for this...
I don't like him. He was cool in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, but here playing as him is just horrible... I mean he has same mods as Shadow or Metal Sonic, but his vehicles are just ridiculous. I know he played video games a lot, but here? In previous game he had a motorcycle, which was pretty badass, but in this game it feels like a stereotype of gamer.
His All-Star isn't any better. It brings no emotions. Tell me, what do you expect from an unique move that wrecks everyone completly? Excitement, right? Well the main parts of this move are music and the attack itself, both of which are horrible. The music is quiet and calm, and the attack is just another "spin some stuff around you to damage racers" which to be honest, isn't a good move.
My recommendation: Don't waste your money on it unless your are big fan of Shenmune... And even then be aware that this character isn't so great.
IS IT SUPER HANG-ON?
IS IT OUTRUN?
IS IT SPACE HARRIER?
No, it's Shenmue, from Ryo Hazuki game.
Wait, that's another way around.
Anyway, it's cheap DLC that adds a single character. That is Ryo. That may not drive forklift, but keeps playing Sega classics. Depends on how much you like this guy. Maybe you just want to support Sega with money. Or think that buying this will make Shenmue 3 better, even though kickstarter already passed. Though probably not.
Ryo is a nice character and his vehicle(s) are a throwback to some 80's games that were represented on Shenmue. But why are his stats already maxed out? This gives almost no reason to play as him while you have other characters waiting to get experience on the events.
I don't recommend supporting Sega. Even buying their good games supports bad practices.
Ryo's design is cool and all but he's statistically nothing special. I guess Sumo didn't want paid DLC characters to be overpowered but instead they all have bottom-tier All Star moves and mediocre stats.
His "boat's" awkward shape also means he's one of several characters who can easily glitch up the water physics in way that can ruin your chances of winning your current race or event.
At least paying real money is a much more humane way of unlocking Ryo than putting up with the mobile port for enough weeks to temporarily unlock him in that version.
His voice work is also no way near as annoying as a certain other piece of DLC for the game.
I have no idea why Ryo only ever ended up available in the PC and mobile ports.
i got it in the collection i have no opinion on it but it look cool
I love the detail that his vehicles are arcade machines.
no idea who this character is but he looks cool
Probably an even more useless DLC than both Yogacast and the Metal Sonic/Outrun DLC pack(s) because those kind of offer something new but this just adds back a character that wasn't even DLC in the prequel (in a forklift he was, but still). While it's cool that they made Ryo drive an OutRun arcade machine that can transform to different vehicles and render various game modes in the screen, it's still quite a pathetic DLC. To be fair, they made this bundled with the base game so it's technically free and now Ryo is back into the base game without needing to pay extra.
SEGA more than doubled the price of the main game 2 days ago. A 9 year old game.
Greedy publisher.
Don't give them a cent.
