I fucking love when Bethesda releases a patch with the sole purpose of making it easier to complete microtransactions. Was definitely worth having my modlist merc'd so I can buy that sweet sweet horse armor in all the different European languages now.

About the Anniversary Edition: not worth 20 bucks by any stretch of the imagination. I only bought it for mod compatibility. Some of the added locations are alright. Nothing crazy and definitely not worth when compared to the amount of existing free/base content. AE changes literally nothing about the game and is just a shitty DLC pack. Would have loved to see a real update to the game but... yk.

NOTE: Review says 0 hours, but is actually much higher. I don't launch through steam.

Dont buy this game. There is no STEAM support, and the game is constantly crashing. Also, if you buy the Anniversary addition, STEAM only downloads the Special Edition. I bought the Anniversary Edition, but the game never downloaded the additional content. I have written STEAM, but they have no customer service to help with purchase problems.

Honestly it is still an amazing game and it is sad to see that s many reviews are about mods that don't work in my opinion it is great the way it is and you can play the anniversary addition without mods for the experience they intended you to have and after that you can just go back to the special addition for the mods, its honestly selfish to rate it bad because of an install screen or because your mods don't work.

Creation club content, IMO, falls under four categories: annoying, overpowered, ugly, or lore breaking

Annoying because of constant quest and courier spam
Overpowered because of things like free daedric armor and double element spells
In my opinion, a lot of the weapons and armor contrast the existing art style
The coolest content is also the most lore unfriendly

I just simply dont like CC content. almost feels like a downgrade.

backpacks are nice though

Enjoying getting the CC content for cheaper than it would've been if using the CC credits. But it would've been even better with a larger scale DLC, and with how big the Skyrim following still is I think it would've been a decent investment.
Either way, I still enjoy Skyrim after all these years.

If this hasn't already been repeated numerous times in the reviews; then let me spell it out for you:

"DO. NOT. BUY. THIS" even if you do; be highly aware all times (like today) it can update and therefore screw up your mods, and you will have to wait for the SKSE team or roll back the current version to a more previous one.

broke and continues to break my entire modlist... just leave the game be... modders do your job for you, work on shit that matters like starfield to make sure it's finished on release and isn't held together with scotch tape and bandaids

I bought this as a Wabbajack list requires it, I don't actually want to play it, I just want to test the Wabbajack list. It doesn't install anything, I have to jump through the hoops to raise a ticket with Bethesda. Who cannot do online services to save their lives, which is why they are ditching their own installer and webservice.

Do Not buy this, you are not buying it from Steam, they cannot help you.

Update: it appears that in order to register the purchase with Bethesda, you have to have an active account and synchronise it with your Steam account. Then when you open the game it recognises the purchase. Of course being Bethesda, they put up a thank you message, with a download button, then it locks out the mouse, so you cannot click it. Luckily my joypad is doing keyboard and mouse emulation, so I was able to use that to click it. I also have fast internet, but if you had slow internet or dial-up, I imagine it would take a while.

Undoubtedly the worst and most convoluted experience I've ever had with Steam, Avoid!

If you aren't downloading mods that require Anniversary Edition, don't buy it. This is an entirely pointless title, and one that has made modding more complex. It is extremely anti-consumer, this product does not help you whatsoever, it just earns Todd Howard another $20 for Skyrim.

Big fan of Skyrim, both the original and Special Editions. Big world, freestyle gameplay, and totally absorbing.

But not happy with AE. Some of the custom content is brilliant, but some of it is not for me. (If I wanted zombies, I'd be playing something else. Actually, it has zombies and they're called Draugar.) Most frustratingly, steam occasionally re-downloads all the CC again - I think it's verifying my game files that's done it. This means hanging around for 30+ minutes while I download what I've already got, and half of which I don't even want.

A couple of the player homes are great, and some I simply don't like (either the look & feel or faulty storage). And seriously - how can Bethesda be selling content where the containers are faulty and you can't get your items back? Even though there's warnings online to steer clear of some of the homes such as Hendraheim.

My favourite CC is 4 seasons, the adventurer's backpack is great, and for my style of play, the animals you get in the Pets of Skyrim and the Bonewolf are handy for shifting loot out of a dungeon and cleverly programmed. I just wish you could turn off or delete the content you don't want from within the game.

Most disappointing is the inability to remove the 4 'upgrades' (Fishing etc) this introduced to SE, as the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch wont work without them. The Fishing mod in particular is unavoidable if you want to craft food and I find it intrusive.

I was pleasantly surprised by this content. I expected cheat items thrown at your feet at level one and a super cheap feel that stands out from the normal game. It's really not like that, at least in this updated anniversary edition. You find most of the quests in the world, the couriers are spaced out by level and the items aren't the completely broken cheats I expected. The Bow of Shadows is probably the most "op" item I got, the vast majority aren't crazy.

Bethesda is always very focused on environmental storytelling, and there are a lot of radiant quests with little dialog already in the game, so honestly that didn't stick out much either. The exception is probably the longer quests that try to do more story, where NPCs hand you notes instead of talking, but overall playing the game normally I wouldn't say it sticks out as much as I expected since (for example) the Thieve's Guild does the same thing with thieving jobs.

All in all I expected much worse and am actually happy I got this. If you love Skyrim and want more lore friendly content that feels like Bethesda made it then I think this is easily worth the $20.

Honestly I like this it adds all the creation club content that I didn't want to go out of my way to buy. and tbr why are people giving this bad reviews they knew what they were buying this is just dlc content for anniversary addition. They choose to pay for this and then complain saying "you can just download it for free" ok why didn't you download it for free then... Exactly. in the end this is actually quite good in my opinion. For people who don't want to mod their games this is amazing. for those who do this is also good because it just shortens your mod list. Why get upset over this. so yea i recommend this

Cool thing about this Modpack DLC pack, you have to load the game and install all the DLC in game in the main menu and if you alt-tab it pauses the download so you have plenty of time to regret your life choices.

Getting anniversary edition (through upgrade or purchase) is NOT a good idea for those who want to mod their game, it completely prevents you from doing that now.

Overall? No. The content is well designed but honestly, not only do they keep fucking up the script extender with updates, therefore making it a chore to download quality mods, but half the dialogue is *oh it's all in this note* if I wanted that, I'd play an indie horror game. Yeah it's 15 quid, but you could've done some voice acting for the ghosts of the tribunal pack. Stop updating the damn game, mods are the main reason this game is still relevant all these years later, stop pissing people off.

MrDOOD
MrDOOD

Game is still moddable.

You just add one step to mod it via nexus and then all the old mods work.

People like to complain.

As is, this upgrades adds hundreds of content pieces in one price that saves you money compared to buying it all via CC.

I love it, breathes new life into the game and the content carrying over from the old Morrowind days fills my heart with nostalgia.

I would recommend.

I totally regret spending the money for this. You get a whole bunch of quests dumped on you right away and cannot throw those "notes" into a container to do at your leisure. I really hate having my quest lists clogged up with things I do not intend to do. I hate having to decide within 5 seconds of the tutorial ending if I want survival mode on or off.

I liked playing Skyrim Special Edition without this "feature". I would have been able to live without all that Creation Content stuff. I was hoping all of the regular game breaking things were fixed. I know right, it's Bethesda. That would be expecting a miracle. I don't want a new Elder Scrolls title. I want to play the only titles I actually like. I am not downloading any more Bethesda games. I have 2 versions of Skyrim. I like legendary and Special Edition only.

I did play Fallout 4 for a very long time. That was before I discovered Skyrim. Todd Howard and MSN/Bethesda would make more money off of Skyrim if they made it where you could disable quests that clash with the player's personal values and adjusted the lighting in the game.

Despite the negative reviews i went ahead and purchased this a few days ago. I set it to high on my priority list in Steam settings to update firstly before other things. When today i turned on my desktop it was listed as installed and hit play. I watched patiently as it went through the whole process of installing everything which took about 15 minutes. Luckily i had just started a new game prior so my character was freshly created still on level one. As for mods i usually only install armor and weapons mods. I'm pleased to say that as of loading it up and playing the last few hours that every single armor mod is working nicely and its blended ok with the new content. The game has a clean feeling too with a quick load time and no crashes yet. It compliments nicely with the new gold symbol when i boot up. I understand a lot of people are having issues but i havent had any complaints. I have been playing Skyrim since the week it came out 11/11/11 and this is my most recent upgrade. Im not disappointed thus far but it isnt quite as awesome as the first upgrade to special edition with the 64 bits but its still a nice addition for those true sons and daughters.

Thank you Bethesda for breaking my modlist. Good Job!! Next time leave the updates to the pros aka the modders. Go focus on another project but please stop breaking this game you don't know what the hell you're doing.

Love it! All of the times I`ve messed around with mods, the game has gone to shit. To my great frustration. So I`m really enjoying the extra content and the graphic facelift, ecpecially the lushious lighting. I don`t need much, so I`m happy. (It would be awesome to finally get TES6, but until then... :))

While I love Skyrim, I don't recommend the AE edition. A couple reasons for that. The first one being, the game's courier wil accost you in the nearest town or city and clutter your quest journal with notes about all the new quests. Second, the quests themselves are lacking or not voiced at all, as they tend to make use of the generic one-sentence or even just one-word responses from the various voices in the game itself. Third, the quests will send you across Skyrim just because. The rewards are usually just some weapon or spell that you will likely never use anyway. The AE content is a collection of fillers and doesn't really add anything meaningful to the game save perhaps from the custom player homes - but again, how many homes does one need? It certainly is simply not worth the extra money charged for this edition. I'm sorry, but this is my personal verdict. I have played this game for many years, I love it, but the content found over at Nexus Mods is both free and so much more varied and fun.

The Anniversary Edition is meh. There are some parts that are likable and some parts that are bland. I finished the game with no mods installed, only what came with the anniversary edition. I indulged in everything the anniversary edition provided that was "new." The verdict: Save your money. It's not worth more than 5 bucks. The horse armor is glitchy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it disappears and doesn't show up again until you reload a saved game. It seems the in-game horses (the ones already at the stables) glitch out while the new added "wild" horses do not with the new armors and saddle choices. The new quests are very short and led to a reward of a player home, a weapon, armor, or new magic spell. All of which are unnecessary and dilutes the entire Skyrim experience. All the new content are forced on you as the courier seems to always find you and forces a letter on you that you can't avoid or get rid of. The new player homes (I counted 4) are all bland, simple, and boring. There are much better ones on Nexus. One of them is a farm, which is kinda nice, but your spouse glitches out once you bring in a pet. There is now fishing and new fishes added along with a quest to catch them and even add them in your cellar for the houses you build. Horse taming is just getting on a horse, riding on it for a minute or so and done, the horse is yours, you buy saddle, armor, and ride that thing until she bucks ya. Pretty boring to say the least and there is a quest to tame all the new wild horses (There's about 5 or 6). All in all, there are some nice additions added like armor, weapons, and spells that are worthwhile, but there are way too many forced quests and player homes that just ruin the overall Skyrim experience; not to mention there are way too many bugs with all these new additions that the entire game feels like one giant buggy mess. The OG Skyrim aka Special Edition is better and superior as you get the proper experience that many fans have enjoyed over the years. And when you add your own mods to this version, the fun is truly endless.

Hard Pass

After several hours of pulling my hair out, i've come to the sad realization that adding the Anniversary Edition permanently ruins your game. Mods become incompatible, and it introduces all sorts of awful performance issues and jarring bugs, like actors freezing up mid-ragdoll effect. This is especially egregious with kill-cams.

Also, all the CC is NOT integrated well into the game at all. There is no avoiding these obnoxious quests. You can't even visit Riften without agreeing to do the Grey Fox quest. I might not mind if any of these were any good... but they're not. They're awful. The new weapons and armor clash with the core game, and the only things worth considering were added with the base game for free (survival, fishing).

In short, this is not only not worth the money, you still should avoid it like the plague even if it were FREE.

I really can't recommend this update unless all you care about is the new items which i will give credit they are really cool. Wanna know what isn't cool? The quests to get said items. I'll be blunt for something that costs money its extremely lazy. No new voiced Dialogue and the quests are very bland. Nexus has free mods with more depth and care put into them then any of this content. The $20.00 price tag is fine seeing as It would cost a lot more buying individually. Bottom line, Buy if you want the items. If you're looking for fresh new quests like the base game you will be disappointed.

This was very surprising to me as I didn't buy it... just like the SE edition, I can only assume (could be wrong) that it came with the Elder Scrolls bundle that I bought for $39.99 ages ago in Costco (Bundle had all 5 Elder Scrolls games... Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowwind, Oblivion, and Sykrim) I already had the middle 3 on disk but the DLC's I didn't have. At the time Skyrim + DLC's were selling for $60 in store so the bundle was a big bargain.

As for enjoyment... I got the few CC mods that I didn't already have for free with the upgrade and it fixed a few problems with the High Texture's DLC integration that started with SE (lightning would cause a CTD). Recommended for the repairs to the SE engine alone.

Most of the modding problems this edition of the game created have been ironed out by now, and while I can now say that the extra pieces of content added by this upgrade do add some gameplay value, only consider my recommendation valid if you’re only looking for some ways to quickly and simply add replay value to your game. If you don’t replay Skyrim all that much, this isn’t worth it. If you do, then get this only when it’s on sale.

I have been an elder scrolls fan since the release of Morrowind back in the early 2000's. I have Played Skyrim more times then I care to remember from start to finish on both Xbox and PC. I recently switched back to the PC version only to find that none of the Steam mods are Accessible. You would think that Steam would work out some sort of deal with Bethesda to fix this issue after all the mods are what made Bethesda a product worth buying more then once and worth playing for over a decade. I would still recommend the game but please fix the mod system so we can use steam mods again. I wasn't given a option to not upgrade to Anniversary edition and honestly my only complaint is the steam issue.

bought solely for the alternative armors, because vanilla armor is just ugly + old/boring. i actually do enjoy most of the other Creation Club (CC) content. some CC content is well polished and feels like it could seamlessly blend in with vanilla, while (not mentioning any names) some stick out like a sore thumb and feel very "created by a player". get this on sale or sumn.

Nope, not worth it, with 27 CAD you could get a fully functioning indie game that is fun and well-constructed, the new contents added with anniversary edition is no way near that. No voice acting at all, I know these are just mods but hey, if you are gonna add them into the game as an update and sell it for 27 buck, you have to do a better job. Not to mention most of the new missions can be complete with in matter of minutes.

It's the typical BetheSda, B for bull and S for shit.

Okay, I'm sick of these negative reviews acting like babies about this. If you don't want it, DON'T BUY IT!

Now, I would recommend this to anyone like me who hasn't bought anything from the Creation Club. That's because this does what the description says, it unlocks everything in the Creation Club. If you have bought something from the CC then it's up to you, just keep in mind that the money you spent on CC would be wasted.
Despite what other reviews would claim, this isn't a rerelease. It's a DLC and it actually changes a lot. There's more armor, more weapons, more spells, backpacks, more quests and even a survival mode. I know it's still Skyrim but it feels like a different game altogether.

There is one bad thing with this DLC and that's there's no option to turn specific mods off without deactivating the DLC altogether. This should have been a no-brainer and should really be fixed. But I'm someone who doesn't care that much, more stuff and if I don't want to use something, I don't use it.
Regardless, even if this was a rerelease. It'd be better than the garbage Rockstar pulled with their GTA V "expanded and enhanced" edition which changed absolutely nothing. And certainly better than Rockstar's demaster trilogy that they played the blame game with. And at least Bethesda even allows mods in the first place unlike Rockstar who would go so far as to throw lawsuits around left and right out of pure jealousy.
Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot that we're supposed to ignore everything Rockstar does because they can't do anything wrong. Rockstar good, Bethesda bad.

A few bits of this content is annoying af. (goblins, bone hounds, and those other bug things... ugh.)
You can't disable the masters in your mod organizer (even the garbage ones you don't want.)
The game requires them as master files and protects their load order. and just deleting the esm/esp/esl/bsa files may cause issues, so you need somef patches to make it work. (PS: YOU will have to make the patches yourself... hope you're a quick study if you don't already know how.)
Some of the new player houses are clunky, disorganized, and take up space needed by other, more desirable mods.
Some of the content is glitchy, the mods are dirty, and were never properly cleaned by the mod authors, so they contain wild edits and ITM errors. How this passed muster to become a master file is beyond me, but then again... it is Bethesda.

The Void Wanderer
The Void Wanderer

Is it worth the 20 bucks? Eh. Can mods do it better? Probably. But the stuff in here is pretty good, but implemented in a not so great way. Since pretty much no quests added have voice acting or anything, everything is written in notes, and probably delivered by the courier. I'd say get this at a discount.

Don't buy this "DLC".

This DLC is essentially all of the content in the in-game "marketplace", all packaged in a (suuuuper reduced-price) package of DLC content. So you know what you are getting, allow me to outline the content included:

NEW HOUSES:
There are a bunch of new player homes added in this DLC, almost all of which are immediately obtainable at LVL 1. The houses are actually rather interesting, because they feature a number of cool features, such as unique item plaques, such as a stand for Harkon's sword, or Auriel's Shield, and even individual stands for each of the Dragon Priest masks and the various Claws you will find in the world. Many of the houses also have a significantly improved number of Mannequins, so you can display all of your gear. This is pretty neat. However, there are some significant issues:

1) Many of the houses can be obtained at level one for free, which can be kinda OP. It is nice to have a place to unload some of the numerous unique items you are lugging around, but it kinda interrupts the balance of the game.

2) Almost all of the houses are many times better than the ones that require effort to get, which makes all the vanilla houses feel kind of... useless and unnecessary.

3) Many houses have some weird problems, such as one house having an infinitely re-spawning Chaurus (A pretty strong enemy, early game) that just chills at the entrance of your house, or another house that will just... trap you inside of one of it's rooms, and it is impossible to escape. Huh.

NEW ARMORS:
There are also a bunch of new "Alternative Armors", that are the worst balanced things I have ever seen in a game. For example, you can get ENDGAME DAEDRIC ARMOR incredibly easily at lvl 1, and YOU ARE GIVEN THIS QUEST JUST BY SPEAKING TO ANY INKEEPER. Who the heck thought this was a good idea? This is so, incredibly broken, that doing this quest completely eliminates an entire part of the game, upgrading to and collecting new armors. After completing this quest, you never have to worry about armor again. This actively makes the game worse.

Additionally, none of these new armors are integrated into the game well. Almost every single quest to get the ~20 new armor sets are unlocked just by reading pieces of paper that are left randomly on bar-tables or bedstands. These aren't done very well at all.

Also, a final point, 80% of the armor sets you find, you won't ever use. So keep that in mind.

NEW WEAPONS:
The new weapons in this game are actually fairly interesting and unique. I really enjoyed using Dawnfang/Duskfang and Sunder, although they both suffer some serious issues: balancing. Dawnfang/Duskfang has the stats of the strongest base weapon, the Daedric Sword, and I, completely on accident, easily found and obtained it at level 6. This, of course, meant that I never needed to worry about weapons again, and since I already obtained the best armor in the game (Mentioned earlier), I never needed to worry about any of my gear, ever again. Once again, this actively makes the game worse.

Also, this adds a crossbow that is *almost* the strongest bow-weapon in the game, that can be grabbed, for free, in Solitude, without having to fight a single enemy, at level 1. *sigh*

NEW SPELLS:
There are a handful of new spells in this DLC, a couple of which are brokenly overpowered. Such as Strangulation, a spell you can obtain relatively early-game, that does ~30 damage per second, and HEALS YOU 30 health per second, for three seconds. Or the Elemental Blast, which detonates both Fire and Shock damage for ~100 damage total in a massive AOE explosion. The spells are horridly balanced, although because the vanilla spells are kind of... bad, this isn't as awful as you might expect.

NEW EVENTS:
There are a couple of new, randomly-spawning events that are added, most notably the stupid Bone Wolfs. These things are as tanky as a troll, as small as a chicken, and waaay to common for their power level. They really make the game kind of annoying, at times.

OTHER BAD STUFF:
- 40% of quests use the same line: "Of course. It's all in this note"
- The Courier reaaaaly likes interrupting you with a new DLC quest every time you enter a city
- Reportedly, breaks some mods? I haven't had an issue with it but some people seem to have.

THE GOOD STUFF:
Don't get me wrong, there is some quality content here. For example, the large-ish Mythic Dawn questline is done actually pretty well, and I enjoyed the Wraithguard and Sunder dungeon. The new player homes also look pretty cool, even if they are unbalanced and sometimes buggy.

OVERALL:
You might be tempted, like I was, to buy this just for more Skyrim content, because Skyrim can be unbelievably addictive. But this content is horribly balanced in a way that literally will ruin your gameplay, and won't add anything significant. Don't do it. Just download some mods from Nexus. It seems intimidating, but you literally just drag-and-drop a couple of files, with literally no risk, and for free.

EDIT:
Somehow I missed the "Four Seasons" Dwemer dungeon, when playing through the new "content". I will say, it was a pretty nicely-made dungeon. One of two questlines I actually thought were cool.
The Dungeon also adds a Dwemer horse, who is just like a normal horse, except it doesn't automatically rush into a hoard of bandits and immediately get itself killed by your AOE spells, which is pretty neat.

Skyrim is an incredibly fun game that I've played for years (both modded and vanilla) and honestly the anniversary edition isn't that good. It has things in it that could easily be accomplished with mods so for PC it's kind of meh and for ps4 where it's harder to mod it's slightly better but only slightly. I view this update as Bethesda stalling. Skyrim came out in 2011 and TESVI (6) still hasn't come out and really hasn't been worked on at all. Skyrim is fun and always will be but you can only do so many playthroughs before it gets repetitious. Mods help with that but still. I want to see TESVI.

seems very great the content is curated by bethesda and integrade with the game very well some mods make alot of things that are not immersive like including custom menus and stuff that make the game look unprofessional, this looks like official content so its ok, plus its cheaper than getting the creationg club content, however u should only buy this if you don't already use mods in you game, cause mods can pretty much do anything that is here (if its better or worse is a question of taste) i already played alot with mods in the past and nowdays i just wanted to get the official content and have fun again so i bough this its a good overall dlc the game is worse without this for sure missing alot of content.

i just wish they did this with fallout 4 too, but specially to make the mods look like official content as i hate stuff that is not profesional.

Be careful folks, The so called anniversary DLC is just a bunch of mods in creation club. You have to download them manually in the game and it takes forever to finish. It took me 10 minutes to download the game and 4 hours later I'm still downloading this ♥♥♥♥ DLC.
Just delete the game with no refund. I feel like I'm being scammed.

If Skyrim was a cow then it would be famished, emancipated, and severely dehydrated because Bethesda has milked this game for over 10 years without adding any substantial content. The DLCs aside, the creation club content is pretty subpar and not worth the money. Furthermore, the useless updates (problems that modders already fixed) breaks mods. The game didn't age well.

After an hour, I still can't get this to even download or install??? Nothing seems to be working. No download is showing, It doesn;t appear in game. Fixed. Had to link my steam account to my bethesda.net account from inside bethesda .net and then had to make sure [Bethesda.net]
bEnablePlatform=1 in both my skyrim.ini and skyrimCustom.ini. Then it worked and you have to download each mod that you want.

Personally I think it's pretty good. I know a lot of people are complaining because "hurrdurr mods are free on nexus" but considering you get literally every piece of content from the Creative Club that you cannot get elsewhere, it's worth it.

The content is both official DLC by Bethesda and from the best mod creators in the modding community and considering most mod developers don't get paid much (or at all) for the hours of work and effort they put in just for our enjoyment I seriously don't mind it.
Nothing in life is truly free, it always costs somebody something and this way the creators who make the content for the Creation Club get something back.

Look at it this way, this upgrade saves you a lot of money considering you don't have to buy Creation Club credits anymore and to get all the Creation Club content without the upgrade would cost you many times it's price.

I enjoy this because I'm not someone who likes to mod my games.
Having spent most of my experience playing games on consoles I've always played vanilla Skyrim and have never been used to the modding process nor have never enjoyed it since moving to PC. This DLC adds tons of lore friendly and official content such as new items, quests, enemies and dungeons bundled into one smooth package that has never caused my game to crash.
If you mod Skyrim then this won't be of any value to you, but if you're like me then it adds more replay value to the game and definitely worth picking up. I don't regret my purchase.

I can't believe I bought this. I don't know what I was thinking. Why the hell did I do this? I will never be able to financially recover from this. You win again, Todd Howard.

Do not buy, you only pay for player made mods that were free, the anniversary edition only adds player made content.

I would not recommend purchasing this at all and you can get a refund.
The player content that is included with this edition you have to download and with my very fast internet its taking a long time because their servers are so slow.

Scoffslaphead72

This just felt unnecessary. All of a sudden your entire modlist is incompatible with the latest version and you have a bunch of quests and content that doesn't fit into the base game in any way. Most of the quests are bad and have no voice acting, hell even the armour mods have a quest related to each one of them and it is just annoying. I would only get this if you manage to get an amazing deal but even if you do I would still downgrade to 1.597 and just pick and choose what mods you want.

I didn't pay a single penny for Special Edition; it was free because I had the original.
I waited years to experience the Creation Club content without having to pay $120 for it.
I refused to pay $40 for this stupid upgrade.
I paid about $10, bringing my total investment into Special / Anniversary Edition and all of the Creation Club content to about $10.
I can't experience any of the CC or AE content because whenever I try, more than half a year later, the game crashes once I start doing anything.
Tried out the farming that was added with AE; crashed when entering the new farmhouse.
Tried some of the older CC stuff like The Rising Dead; crashed when opening the Zombies' inventory.
The only thing that didn't seem to crash was the fishing add-on, and there's more player input from Ocarina of Time's fishing than there is in this. More importantly, there are already better fishing mods available without having to pay up to $40 USD for this mess.

Never buy a Bethesda game, or now, even a Bethesda add-on until a minimum of 1 year after it's been out.
Don't buy it now; keep waiting.

CynicalRabbit

It requires you to create an bethesda account to be able to get the majority of the content and if you thought the unmodded UI was bad just wait until you see the creation club UI. Manually clicking through about 75 items to download only to find out that about halfway through something happened and they stopped downloading.

I think that the majority of the creation club stuff is available via free mods. The only reason I bought the game was because I wanted Todd Howard to be able to afford his 4th hot tub and he wouldn't be able to do that if we didn't help him exploit content creators.

TL:DR - Nice collection of content, and modding support

I still have no idea why there's so much backlash for this DLC, it's extra content for an already awesome game. Contray to previous reviews, there's now numerous mod support patches available for those who like to go crazy with Nexus

Once purchasing the Anniversary Edition, absolutely every creation for creation club is unlocked and can be instantly installed saving the headache of spending hours doing it manually
The quality of the creations are great too, everything fits perfectly and it's not some unoptimised, lazy crap

I only payed for this because it was on sale and so i can vote nagative on this fake DLC. The content still needs to be downloaded from B. Net not steam... That alone with is bad enough. Then how many wonderful mods got broke to allow bethesda a chance to push more paided mods. I really wish they pulled another Legenday additoin and just made a third game and left special addition alone. Hell Delist speical addition but no they update something large and break almost every mod that keeps Skyrim intresting. Honestly the mods are 70% of why i played skyrim for so long less and less having to do with Oldrim, although i turned around and started to think maybe i should go back to my true oldrim because at least it cant be touched.

'Mixed' rating fits this "upgrade" very well.
Most of the creations in this package fell very much like "Babby's first mod". The implementation feels awkward, and you don't need thousands of hours in the game to realize what's from CC, and what's vanilla. It's nice to see items from older titles returning semi-oficially, but how it's actually been served is more in the realm of "I clapped when I recognize thing" nostalgia baiting.
Oh, and after people finally got used to the LE/SE mod split, here comes AE breaking mods once again.
Thanks Todd.

Why make Elder scrolls 6? When you can Milk Skyrim dry.
-
Your going to start seeing Dragonplate Armor and Daedra plate armor in almost every dungeon (Thanks to the Creation Club) after you get to lvl 35-40 ish. It ruins both end game sets from being too FUCKING common. You will legit see them on every single high level human to the point you can call the OG armor useless.
-
This "Upgrade" still didn't fix the exploit of Followers having an Infinite inventory by just commanding them to pick up an item after they become full. (This is also in fallout 4 mind you..) The list of bugs goes on and on...
-
Overall, instead of making some dumb "Upgrade" DLC how about you add the Unofficial Skyrim Patch Mod to the base game, how the hell can it still be this buggy after the 100th remake. MOVE ON TO ELDER SCROLLS 6!

I wish I had given this a miss. There isn't anying outstanding here, and better can still be found on Nexusmods. These CC mods do tend to overload your journal whether you want them or not, and add quest items that add weight to your inventory whether you want them or not. What you get is not usually worth the time, and the quests are not outstanding in any way.

Pretty decent deal for the amount of content, though I think the quest spam that comes along with it makes it a tad annoying. I'd recommend it for any long-time players looking to add a little more flavour to their game, not necessarily for anyone playing Skyrim for the first time.

Despite what Ravenstar said, the AE edition (purchased separately) might not break your mods, but it's bugged. Badly. All the player homes, when you enter them, it says "Enter creation club cell". Golden Hills I can enter, but I can't exit, there is no option to exit, so I have to use a console command. The quest for Bloodchill Manor freezes when I sit at the dinner table and read the note on my plate, so it won't advance. I am missing the final room in the Sunder/Wraithguard quest, which is actually a pretty good quest, but now it's just sitting in my quest list collecting dust. Tundra Homestead will not admit followers, you have to summon them. It's a mess. A lot of the new content quests are short, i.e. "go kill these ppl". The Saints and Seducers is basically the same quest for both with minor variations. Armor no better than what is in game now. Fishing is ok, if you play survival mode. Just not all that. I do have a heavily modded game, but none of my mods conflict with the cells the CC player homes are in, so not sure what the problem is.

This makes Skyrim a lot better, giving you many more options in character build, and quite a lot of additional stuff to do, adding potentially a couple hundred hours to your gameplay. It adds enough quality stuff to Skyrim that you can actually play without mods for a much larger amount of time, compared to the usual case of 1-3 playthroughs before someone starts modding.

The Anniversary Upgrade for Skyrim is worth it but only when its on sale for cheap. It adds all of the creation club content which includes four of the expensive mods "The Cause", "Saints and Seducers", "Four Seasons" and "Ghost of the Tribunal". Along with these four mods you get a fishing questline, a bunch of pets, variants of armor, and tons of weapons that appear in older games. Besides those things its just normal skyrim.

The Cause is about the Mehrunes Dagon cult called the Mythic Dawn trying to open an Oblivion gateway in some random mine near the border of skyrim. The quest is actually pretty short and doesn't add much content besides a new spell tome called "Spell Tome: Ayleid Lich" which spawns in an encounter-able boss inside of the Ayleid ruin you have journey inside of to prevent the Mythic Dawn from getting their hands on a grand gem. The story has no unique dialog what so ever whch is unfortunately a trend with all of the creation club contents. It was pretty enjoyable and you gain a new horse similar to advark except cooler but the rest of the loot is just references to Oblivion.

Saints and Seducers is another Oblivion based mod that has you going to a unique new dungeon which is under one of the holds. This one is pretty cool but is really short.

Four Seasons is THE best of all four of these. And incredibly made dwarven ruins aswell as new mask and a unique crown with a new horse. The puzzles are really fun and I certainly enjoyed it. I don't really wanna talk to much of it as to avoid spoilers as its really cool.

Ghost of the Tribunal adds a few cool pieces of armor and weapons from Morowind. I've never played Morowind so I didn't get any of the references if any at all. The questline is told through all notes and is short. Out of all of them it was my least favorite.

So that was the main DLC's what about the rest? Well the fishing questline is hilariously easy since you don't need to use anyone of the new fishing mechanics in the game. If you go on youtube and search "Camelworks how to get all 21 new fishing in skyrim" you can just go around the map and into water to get the new fish without even casting your rod. The story is also told entirely through notes which gets ridiculous. Anniversary also adds a bunch of playerhomes from creation club. The problem with most of the houses is that they are in the middle of nowhere like the pirate ship. Places like the pirate ship and the mage home are definitely homages to the Oblivion deluxe edition homes.

With everything concluded i'd say get if you're board but only when its on sale for really cheap, other don't bother. I'd say it would be worth it if the quest actually had any impact on the world and had voicelines but they don't.

Skyrim's Anniversary Upgrade is basically functions like a pass to unlock all of Skyrim Special Edition's Creation Club content, and is the cheapest way to get them all. After buying this DLC you will have to go to the CC menu and download all of the content to make them available in-game. As someone who plays the game vanilla, it doesn't break my game, my saves, or anything, I resumed my playthrough from almost 2 years ago. But if you use a lot of mods, some if not most of them may not work properly, and you have to be find each of their fixes/updates/workarounds if there are any.

I must admit I did not regret buying this DLC at all, even at its kinda expensive price. The amount of added content is really a lot. And almost every new content has a new quest related to it, even if its just a simple fetch quest where you read a note, travel to the place, fight bandits, take the item, and it finishes. Most of the quests that are like this are the alternate armor quests, where you find new armors based on the ones from the mobile game Elder Scrolls: Blades. Despite the bad reception of that game some of their armor designs are great.

Some of the new weapons' quests are also like that, although usually not that basic, with a little bit more "flavor". These weapons are mostly taken from previous TES games as well, mostly Morrowind and Oblivion. Although most of their enchantments are different, being reunited with a weapon you love from your previous game is a satisfying feeling. And some enchantments can be better, like the Staff of Hasedoki which can throw enemies (or allies, if you're not careful) like the Unrelenting Force shout.

Besides the armors and weapons there are also some new houses you can get, each with its quests. The houses are pretty thematic, like there's one fit for pirates, mages, thieves, etc. And it comes with many, perhaps too many, mannequins and weapon displays for the plenty unique items you can found in the new quests. There are also some pets, and you can make them stay at any of these new houses. And new horses, too, including the fabled unicorn, which you can equip with some saddle or the beloved horse armor.

But the best new content unlocked by this DLC are the story-heavy ones. Firstly there is The Cause, which is inspired by Oblivion as we go back to Ayleid Ruins and Oblivion gates while stopping the Mythic Dawn cult from bringing their lord Dagon back. There's also Ghosts of the Tribunal, inspired by Morrowind. as we help some followers of Almelexia gather the masks of the former Living Gods. Both of these add new items inspired by the previous games as rewards. Other than those 2 quests, which seems like the main star of this DLC, there's also some great ones like Bittercup which leads to 3 different quests depending on what you choose, and Forgotten Seasons, a long Dwemer weather station-like dungeon with different seasonal themes in each room.

I think Skyrim's Anniversary Upgrade is a great DLC that can add dozens of hours to your already completed Skyrim save, whether its just doing these quests or doing other stuff like redecorating your themed homes. First-time TES fans who start with Skyrim and this DLC might not fully enjoy the feel and nostalgia of the new content added, but for those who played other TES titles will surely enjoy the callbacks to other games. Definitely a must-buy if you're already a TES fan and played more than just Skyrim.

the current STEP guide requires skyrim AE, so i got it for that specifically
i haven't played much of the content but it seems to work a LOT better than fallout 4's CC content.
fallout 4 will straight up break your game and spams you with quests like how skyrim CC did at the beginning
but now finding cc content is a lot more natural through gameplay as scripted events when entering cities or by courier
no mods i use are not available for AE, so you shouldn't need to downgrade to SSE anymore if you have the AE DLC
most of the fears we had when AE was released did not come to fruition apart from a few mods breaking on the 1.16 that were never updated and did break due to script changes
but for the most part the transition has been smooth, with skse getting a prerelease build and was already updated by the time i got AE.
afaik buying the AE dlc today will go smoothly and you'll be able to get your usual mods up and running easily.
edit: grass lods are currently broken, but dyndolod alpha 3 is in the process of fixing that. you can get grass lods to kind of sort of work if you need that.

I've just requested a refund.

I mean why to pay another $20 for a third edition of more then a decade old game, when you can add some money and buy Elden Ring for example. Or any other beautiful looking modern RPG game.
Skyrim SE and AE have the same OLD GRAPHICS and they both look very, very outdated.

I was hoping Bethesda would implement some visual improvements with Skyrim AE, but no, it's just a quick cash grab.
Don't let Bethesda fool you. Some mods from Creation Club are not worth this money.

And if you want for this game to look decent you will have to lose endless hours experimenting with additional untested free mods and some of them will probably break your game anyway.

All in all, don't give any more money to Bethesda for the very old game, it's really absurd to support Bethesda's greed.
Better buy another game and support developers who are not lazy and who treat their fans with some respect.

A great update for those still playing Skyrim. The Anniversary Edition solves a lot of the issues I had with Creation Club content and bundles the whole lot for a much lower price than acquiring them individually via microtransactions. Even if you don't buy the upgrade, there is plenty of free new content for Special Edition that makes it worth revisiting the game for its 10th anniversary.

Bought it because I have wanted to get the stuff from the creation club since I was a teenager but it always felt like a rip off buying each thing individually or even the bundles. $20 for the upgrade was worth it to me. This is basically a value pack of all the creation club content.
Is it worth the $20? maybe? Depends.
A ton of people really dislike this because "you can get X for free"
Some of the content is indeed worse than nexus content (a fair bit of the daedric items and their quests tend to be sub par compared to their nexus counter parts)
Others are honestly better in my opinion, the crossbow packs being preferred IMO
Yet to try the fishing content, but it is just as lackluster as people make it out, being locked to zones and the bulk being edible fish and some alchemy ingredients (rarely if ever use alchemy so i can't say too much on that)
save for some weird side content/surprise return of relics (i.e ring of khajiiti, ring of phynaster, etc)
The houses in my opinion are perfectly split into being good (bloodchill cavern/manor, myrwatch), others are relatively boring, such as the farming one.
Most of the rest of the content is strangely gated, such as The Cause being gated behind level 46+, saints and seducers only being startable from one specific khajiit caravan NPC (Ri'Saad), and Forgotten Seasons just appearing as a "run off cave" on your map from the beginning.
Universally much of the visuals in CC content is base-game tier at worst, high quality but below the passionate 4k modelers on the nexus at best

Is it worth a purchase? In my opinion, yes, assuming you aren't still upset over the existence of CC to begin with, for legitimate reasons or not (how they pay the devs vs "its just paid mods!!!"), and are willing to try out CC content.

The voiced dialogue is always absolute garbage in this though, Bethesda didn't get the voice actors back when making/working with the devs, and much of the CC mod info is from notes or reused/spliced dialogue from vanilla.

terrible upgrade and not only beause of the price/content comparison. i had a perfecttly funktional skyrim special edition installed on my pc. Bought the anniversary upgrade..played a bit, and then suddenly skryrim broke completely..probably erasing my saves as well. Now even after uninstallng and installing again..it is still not playable, the game just wont start. Utter dissapointment the likes of i hadnt experienced since warcraft reforged. maybe its just time to move away from bethesda at this point

Don't buy this if you are looking for quality. If you want anything included in the creation club just go to Nexus Mods and you will find a better version for free. Bethesda putting in the least amount of work for the most amount of profit, it just works.

How the mighty have fallen. It's sad to see the lack of respect or care Bethesda has for their fans. A new update to totally destroy your load order. The worst part is they expect you to spend 20$ on it. Now if you want to stay up to date with mods released today this may be a requirement.

Many people are pumping out negative reviews calling it a cash grab but looking at the amount of features, items, areas and quests I say it is worth it.

Considering what you can get for free yea this is a slap in the face. But whats here is for the most part a collection of stable and quality mods, Also contains the lightest weight, most supported and comprehensive survival mode. You no longer have to install 4 different extremely script intensive mods and 30 patches to get a cobbled together survival mode.

On the surface, a good value for what you get IF you want all the creations. A lot of the creations, however, are pretty un-immersive on account of there being no voice acting in any of them and their stories mostly being told through notes.
The visual quality of the creations is pretty good and they fit right into vanilla Skyrim, whereas a lot of mods can feel out of place.
If you are a modder who is interested in getting this, I would either recommend not getting this at all or waiting until more third party support is added for what you get to make the content feel at home in your modded save file.

Well what is there really to say, they released Skyrim again after a decade and I am part of the problem because I bought it. The new quests seem alright so far, and the new weapons and armor are cool looking but most of the ones that I have encountered thus far aren't really any stronger than the stuff that was already in the game. But as a person who loves Skyrim I am enjoying the update.

APPAULING. Not the DLC but the Download. WHY is it an In-game 15GB Download. I'm basically locked out of my computer for 3 hours to get it. WTF. Why isn't it just a background DLC like all others. I've wasted soo much of my own time on this looking at stupid download % numbers I cant even be arsed to play now. You stupid idiots, FYI I'm claiming a refund, because that's Fucking idiotic. And you've taken my heart away. I simply don't even want to try it.

ravenstar_

I see a lot of misinformation in these reviews so I'm going to try to set it straight.

First off, this DLC does not break your game or your mods. On Nov 11, 2021, when this was released, an update to Skyrim Special Edition was also released, updating the game from 1.5.97 to 1.6+. This broke any existing mods that used a .dll file (certain SKSE-based mods). Basically, only some mods were broken, and they are broken regardless of whether you buy this or not. They are broken by an update, not this content. If you want to keep using mods meant for 1.5.97 you need the downgrade patcher, whether you buy this or not. As of writing this, 6 months after release, all the "essential" mods have been updated and now work with the newest version of the game.

Onto the review of the actual content of this DLC.

This content bundles together content from the Creation Club, as well as some brand new content, into one bundle. This contains around 75 creations. At its core this content is like outsourced DLC. The content itself is not made by Bethesda but rather modders and is officially endorsed/supported by Bethesda.

As for the quality of the content it varies greatly. Some of the content isn't very good. Some of it is pretty good. It's hard to summarise 75 pieces of content in one review, but overall you can expect some good stuff and some bad stuff. The new armours and weapons, pets, and callbacks to previous games are generally well made. Some stuff like fishing... not so much. Generally I would say there is enough good content to make it worth it.

Where some of the negatives come in is the integration of the content into the game:
- There is no voice acting. Any narrative is told through notes (for the purpose of easy and cheap translation for all official languages).
- The balance could be better. You can get high level stuff very easily, bandits can be prone to spawning with Daedric plate, etc.
- Some of the content downright doesn't fit into the game.
- There are bugs.

As usual though, there are more mods that can fix those above issues.

Which brings me to my next point: You may be thinking, "What about free mods? Can't you get stuff like this off Nexus?" The answer is sort of. For some of the content, much better or equal alternatives exist on Nexus. For some stuff, nope. There are some pieces of content here that genuinely have the best execution over free alternatives.

So is it worth it? For me it was. The Alternate Armours Creation alone is worth it to not have to filter through female armours on Nexus.

Overall I would tentatively recommend this if you can look past some of the flaws and are willing to install a couple mods to fix some of the issues. If you're playing Skyrim for the first time and wondering if you should get this, I wouldn't recommend it due to some of these issues. But if you love the game and you're replaying it and want some fresh content this is certainly worth the price if you can get it on sale.

Update June 30: After playing with this content some more and playing through more Creations I would like to add a bit to my review. It is definitely a little buggier than I first thought - originally the bugs I knew of were the types that could be easily fixed with the unofficial content patch or other external mods. There's definitely some more issues though: the horse armor creation is just broken (even though the free version they gave out wasn't), the civil war creation is ridiculously buggy no matter what. But I've also been having lots of fun with other creations, for the most part the biggest problem with creations is their integration into the game rather than the content itself. I still recommend it (on sale), but I felt users should be aware that there are some problems mods can't fix and some Creations should either be disabled or avoided entirely.

Also, originally I left comments open for discussion but after receiving countless comments calling me a shill, other insults, and derogatory terms for disabled people, I’m disabling the comments as I don't see any benefit to leaving them open. Sorry, but now I know why comments being disabled is the default. Therefore I would like to add one last thing to my review: To who it is relevant, it is fine to disagree with someone but there is no need to hurl abuse at a person over a different opinion in a video game.

It doesn't break your mods. Most have been patched.
It doesn't contain anything u can't get on nexus.
It doesn't cost 60 bucks, so why are you bitching?
Starfield and the other new Beth games got delayed, so WHY ARE YOU BITCHING?

You get all the creation club content for a better deal. Not what I wanted for the Anniversary of Skyrim but, oh well. If you don't like the sound of it, don't buy it. If you wan't more content, it's worth it.

You want all the bells and whistles; this is the version to get.

I combined this with the Septimus 3 package from Wabbajack (requiring a Nexus membership) and its running 1200 mods at 70 - 120 Fps at 4k with an ENB with 100% stability on a 3080. This means that Bethesda have done some behind the scenes magic to enable even more mod loading. If you want the very best of the best, this is the one.

It`s very bad idea to pay your money for FREE mods. Also there are a lot of ready modlists, that you can download from internet or with my favourite program "Wabbajack". In case you`ve got Skyrim SE DON`T purchase this "Edition" - Bethesda is trying to sell you something you have free access and it is not complicate to install mods (you can use ModManager).
Concluding: I don`t recommend to buy free content, but the decision is all yours.

I know there are much better mods out there. You know there are much better mods out there.

But sometimes, when you've reinstalled skyrim for the tenth time, you don't want to have to remember your nexus password, download the app, spend a few hours picking mods, and set up and troubleshoot a launcher to load them in the right order.

Sometimes you want to just reinstall skyrim, throw ten bucks at steam, and see some new craftables and quests when you start up.

In that regard, I guess this is okay.

cookiezbitz

some of the content is glitched out and does not work as functioned. such as the quest where you get invited to a feast, the entrance to the location is covered by a snow which you cant pass through. the content doesn't seem integrated at all, just dropped in. this is not a new skyrim edition but just a bunch of creation club content barfed up in one place.

So I was curious as to what you would receive by purchasing this item, and the answer is everything. The entire creation club is purchased when you buy this. If you have not yet bought any of the creation club content it is well worth consideration.

Most, if not all the "mods" included with this upgrade are fine. Kinda just like the final "DLC" for Skyrim adding a bunch of new content.

Some cool assets, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Hype-bought this, and but I don’t think it’s worth the price, and requires mods in order to be actually balanced with the rest of the game and not ridiculously OP. Only buy this if you really like a few of the DLC and don’t mind your game being bloated with a bunch of additional quests and areas you’d never want to interact with anyway.

adds mediocre content that can only used already existing voice lines, leading to most npcs saying nothing, or saying that they hand you a note, that has all the needed story/dialog in that. its very jarring and id much prefer npcs just speaking in the subtitles instead of this. also almost none of the content is worth any amount of money, most addons will add a "quest" most quests are just talk to one npc (reading a note) and then grabbing the item, the added armors are nice at times, but some armors only add 2 pieces instead of a full set, leading to slightly different colors of what should be a full set, like the dwarven plate armor doesnt have a helm or gloves, and using the normal dwarven gloves clearly have different colors so when you look at yourself its just weirdly off colored for no reason.

also survival mode is shit, disables fast travel but doesnt account for the fact that in the main story youd need to go upto the big main mountain 5 times, and only 5 of the major cities have a carriage for your to use to get around, and with the base games pultray random events and relatively long respawn time for dungeons to reset, it leads to things feeling very tedious instead of immersive, like imo in fallout 4 the way to play is survival mode, that game felt balanced around it, where as here it feels poorly tactted on with every element of it designed in a vacuum.

i could only justify this if you absolutly needed any of the creation content for a mod, otherwise make this a hard pass (plus im sure becasue of how small and shitty these are someone somewhere has them up for download or something, idk if there is)
