Pros:
Sounds great
Great cab functionality
Speed set actually works
Looks great
Lots of different liveries (for 2013)
Visual alarms
Realistic traction system (similar to the Class 87)
GSM-R is visualised well
Horn is great
Parking break is simulated correctly
Advanced version for people who know what they are doing
Adds lots of AI services to the GEML
Retractable buffers on the Class 90
Random faults
DVT Door opens (Doors must be released for this to work)
Battery isolation
Cons:
On the Advanced Version it is not possible to turn on the tail lights on the tail end if the reverser is not in Off
Only 2 scenarios
Seems a blast so far, but I can't seem to get the doors to open properly, even though I'm at the correct station stop. Make sure to read the sizeable manual in your common/Railworks/Manuals folder, as this is an armstrong powerhouse product.
Nice DLC often overlooked for some reason. Good model and sound, some additional buttons to play but not overdone. Scenarios are a bit tiresome but quite entertaining (though unnecessarily hard at some places). The whole concept of fast travel helps to look at GEML route from another point of view.
You will drive the train with the class 90 loco itself in the front (Ipswich-London direction) or with the oppposite end MK3 DVT non-motorised car (London-Ipswich direction). The amount of scenarios is actually two times bigger as you have each of them in ADV and HUD versions with either more complicated or more friendly controls.
Both liveries are accurate but unbranded wich is a shame but that's how our world is made and of course it's somehow bad for Greater Anglia if a bunch of nerds drive their nerdy toy trains on their nerdy toy tracks in their nerdy railroad game. Also I kinda wish we had some freight scenarios as class 90 was often used for such a purpose at the end of its career (and probably still used).
Verdict: interesting train, well made and with some nice scenarios too. Could be better but still is quite good.
The class 90 has since moving out from GEML realms, become quite the common or garden engine because of its versatility in everything from freight, mail and even sleeper trains.
Based on the older class 86/87's, it was a close run thing that this ended up with gradual controls rather than having the tap type controls of its parentage, complete with a very good speed set control, normal and advanced modes of startup, realistic DSD add to the flavour of driving this smooth engine and with additional freeware livery packs available out there makes this a very good loco for your collection.
This Class 90 is a Steam Special of the Armstrong Powerhouse Class 90. I picked the GEML Class 90 for free when I bought the GEML in a sale last year, but if you are interested in buying the Class 90 here, I recommend looking at the Armstrong Powerhouse website as well. They originally developed the Class 90 seen here, and the one here is a slightly less complex version. For an extra $5, I'd recommend the Armstrong Powerhouse. You might not get the scenerios or achievments that this one provides, but you get more bang for your buck. Still though, this is not DTG developed train, so it is much more refined, and includes more features.
Very nice loco. Glad I bought it. However, the ADV variant doesn't want to go anywhere, it doesn't turn on or anything.
If you do buy this pack, I recommend driving the HUD variant most of the time.
This is an Armstrong Powerhouse addon, that was released under DTG. Highly reccomend this realistic loco, that comes with basic and advanced control methods.
I bought this in a twin pack with the Ipswich route, initially it never worked and always crashed my computer when selected.
However, after the Ipswich route upgrade a good while back, it worked occasionally, but now after the 64 bit release, it works just fine. So even though it took a couple of years, all now seems just fine.
rather pleased with this one, although the key board assignments are rather daft....... People do have lap tops.... like me but I also still have a very very old trakball mouse which helps (if you have the AP one...... the keys are different)
Great loco, with plenty of in-cab things to do. Also has a full start up procedure, which can be fun, as you have to set up both ends of the train before driving away. No passenger view from the train, which is a shame.
*Be aware that the scenario's are very heavy on cpu usage due to the amount of AI traffic included in the scenario's, people are reporting the level not working etc, make sure you have HD Space to be able to run this, and have a decent graphics card installed*
The levels themselves are great fun, a lot of rush hour traffic, showing how hard this section of line works during a working week.
Train is also great on QD on other lines.
Is it value for money? Yes, if your computer can handle the load.
Yes i like of the including stock's, the map are matching in real life and it only less than 100 miles.
But no because of the lagnes i get when i am playing
Included with the Class 90 (Blue/White and Grey/White) And Class 360 (Blue/White)
Of all the stock I have in TS, the AP Class 90s/DVTs (both their own full version and this pack) are by far my favourites to drive.
It'll take a few goes to remember the start-up routine on the advanced models, but they are well worth the effort of learning. You'll become a lot more involved in the operation of the train, rather than just opening the throttle and occasionally waving the brake lever around. If that sounds too involved though, then remember that you get automatic speed control, to avoid constant overspeed penalties.
Very much recommended by me.
If you want this be sure to get the UK collection as it comes with 5 trains and two routes all for the price of one route :P
As for the train itself, it's very nice! Sounds seem good and it's well modeled (seems to be a lack of branding, assuming its a permission problem).
So yeah, it's nice :D
Excellent quality DLC, probably because it is not made by RSC, DTG or whatever they are called this week.
If you have the GEML, you NEED this! The London to Ipswich line isn't complete without this but this is actually one of the better addons in it's own right anyway. The systems are fare more accurately modeled than a lot of TS addons, featuring speed control and even a choice between advance and basic versions. The model itself is really nice, featuring the familiar mk3 coaches, DVT and the class 90 loco itself. Buy it on sale or as part of a pack and you won't be disappointed.
The GEML is a very exciting rail line to run on. There are so many branch lines to explore and tons of main line running at high speed. I wish they could extend it to Norwich like the original route. I would pay a little more for that. Overall its a great route, and tons of scenarios are avalable for it. The Class 90's are full of detail, and the Advanced controls are just that, advanced, and they actually require sequences to activate, just like the real thing. That along is worth getting. Get the route on sale, you wont be disappointed.
AP Deserves my money. I love how almost everything on the loco works, and the fact that the DVT is the same even makes it better.
935/17
Wonderfull add-on and well worth the money. Detailed cabs in both the loco and DVT. The GEML and Class 90 are a great match. Setting up the loco makes a nice change compared tomost other scenarios. The only issue I see is not being able to view inside the coaches. Apart from that, thumbs up here :)
Ok
There is just something about this loco that makes me not wanna stop using it. I have completed all the scenarios that came with it and yet I want more. Here's what makes it probably my new favourite DLC in train sim
PROS
It was made by AP and Waggonz, which is a match made in heaven.
Horn is 2 tone and is a lot of fun to mess around with
The advanced version is easy to control.
ADV version is cool with alarms going off and such keeping the driver entertained
Very photogenic
CONS
Liveries are outdated.
This is my new favourite train in train sim and we are all hoping for some more AP/Waggonz stuff soon.
The scenarios are terrible, and it doesen't work atall for me in Quick Drive, but the actual TRAIN is superb. You also get to drive fro the MK3, but the doors don't open when I collect passengers.
overall, Very good route
Chances are high that if you click a button, something will happen. Apart from the heater. Good sounds, pretty much good everything. AP delivers again!
The Class 90 GEML for Train Simulator
This train is pretty much a reskin of the original Class 90/Mk3 package from Armstrong Powerhouse. I will be reviewing it though as if it is a original release.
The Sounds
As per usual with Armstrong Powerhouse releases, the sounds are top notch. everything from the motors to the power handle is perfectly recorded and timed.
10 out of 10
The Model & Cab
The model for the Class 90 is excellent. Nearly every single detail is modelled and the cab is wonderfully made. The Mark 3 coaches and the DVT and modelled excellently but my only complaint is that there is no passenger view for the coaches.
9 out of 10
Driving The Train
The functions on this trains are mostly modelled. There is a cold start option and even the failures are scripted into the train.
9 out of 10
The Scenarios
There are 6 career scenarios included for this train using the Great Eastern Main Line. They do try to work around the near non-existant default stock for the GEML and I think they have done well considering the amount of avaliable stock for the GEML.
8 out of 10
The Final Score
Final Comments
A excellent train to have in your collection.
DaCanadiaPika
Made by Armstrong Powerhouse enough said. If you don't know Armstrong Powerhouse look them up and you'll see why.
12/10 No joke
What do you expect from an AP/Waggonz production very good but i do think that the AP version is possibly worth more for the little more it charges however if you cant save/wait or dont like buying from anyone other than steam this is still very good and recommended
An additional loco which is included with the ECML route addon (London-Peterbourough). Provides additional scenarios to the pack- missions which are bound to keep you going!
One of the most advanced locos in the game - well worth it as part of the UK collection
Pros:
+Tons of features and advances simulation
+Sounds are (of course for AP) excellent
+The horn :)
+Decent scenarios, with more on the Workshop
+Includes HUD and advanced version
Cons:
-Can steal a few FPS here and there
-No passenger view
Struggling to think of much that's bad about this, well worth it in the UK collectio, along with the GEML and the PDL (and some other things), and an excellent addition to both teh GEML and the WCML. My advice- just buy it :)
Great DLC The Class 90 and Mk3 DVT provides a realistic driving experience i'd highly recommend it especially if you like Armstrong Powerhouse's Products.
It is cheap (ish) for Armstrong Powerhouse DLC on the Train Sim store and the sounds are brilliant, You get advanced and HUD modes so that makes it easy to drive as well. There is cruise control on this which is good as the GEML is generally all 100 mph. I need to mention that GET THIS WITH THE UK COLLECTION. The uk collection comes with this train, the GEML AND the Portsmouth line AND the class 444 AND the class 66 for just 24.99, the stand alone price of the GEML.
Whenever I spawn a train into a scenario the danged game freezes. This is the same with the class 360 on the London-Ipswich route add-on.
Whilst i understand many people would think this is a brilliant dlc i think its just a rehash of the class 90 on armstrong powerhouse with 2 new liveries for slightly cheaper. If you want more variants of the class 90 get the ap version.
Worth it.
This uses the AP pack and as you should expect, it is quality!
I'd suggest you get the full pack from AP but either way it is brilliant. Coaches are the normal MK3/MK3a, and feature the blurry, slightly scary, "Passengers" but apart from that. If you can get it on sale, get it.
Railways or platforms or railway bridges wont load. Very frustrating. Cannot get train to start either.
Solid Snake is on the train, see if you can find him!
Great DLC, it's an advanced loco so make sure to read the manual or you're going to struggle to get it started.
Very High Quality Train To Drive, Very Enjoyable. Well Worth A Purchase. Very Accurate Details On It Too
Like all Armstrong Powerhouse created products, this maybe old (2013) but it is an absolute beauty, and very realistically designed. Wonderful to drive.
Armstrong Powerhouse usually does things right and they certainly got this DLC right. A really fun loco to drive on a well done route.
this product is basically an payware reskin of the AP version just on Steam for £12 which is insane with three scenarios included for GEML which are ok i cant recommend this to anyone because its being sold separately to the original class 90 from AP this is an ripoff and these should been included with the Original AP version
pretty Nice Addon. Not to hard to drive but very enjoyable 8/10
