Electro-Motive’s F40PH line of diesel locomotives represented the face of North American passenger railroading for more than a generation. Between 1976 and the early 1990s, more than 400 of the highly successful 3,000- and 3,200-horsepower diesel locomotives were constructed and served in intercity and commuter service, across the...

On sale, yes. Not for full price. It's too old, with too little to offer for full price. The commuter cars are nothing special, they're in all of the NJT packs. The locomotive MODEL looks great, but the sounds and physics are ridiculous. The overall model and shapes are really quite nice, so much so that a good texture upgrade would really set it as one of the nicer models to own. But the texturing is hazy in many places. The sounds are the typical rehashed commuter sounds that DTG uses for all of the american commuter packs. The physics make this thing perform like a race car in Forza.

Your model looks great and sound is pretty spot on. The only thing is I can't look around the cab or out the windows. Other then that...
Well done, well done.

It's a good loco. But I'd like to report that when I try to turn on the bell, it won't work when I press "B". I'm hoping it will be fixed soon.

This is a very good loco for the North Jersey Coast Line route. The sounds are good and different from the other F40s I had driven. There's one problem I would like to report that when I press the "B" key on my keyboard for the bell, it won't turn on or off.

Overall, very good addon for North Jersey Coast Line.

Extremely accurate, well detailed locomotive and cars. Only problem is that the "B" shortcut doesn't work, but hey, at least the bell doesn't turn on every time you use the horn :P

The F40PH-2CAT is a nifty little piece of NJT equipment DTG released a while back with the North Jersey Coast Line. Prior to the bugfix I really couldn't recommend this locomotive, but following the update I can definitely recommend it. To begin with the sounds aren't all that great, as the exterior prime mover sounds are also recycled for the interior. The DLC pack actually has the files for the interior specific engine sounds, which really could've been put to use as the past F40PH DLCs and the GP40PH DLC have them coded into the proxyxml. Even following the update the Comet sounds aren't that great either, the Comet V bell hasn't been applied, neither have been the window slide sounds either which allow for the sounds to be not as muffled.

This pack has a number of neat features as well, such as the togglable HEP generator. Physics are generally good, but it is advisable to download FanRailer's excellent physics modification. Textures are crisp for the most part, although the cablight on the F40PH generally creates significant lag.

I would give this pack a 6/10, but I would boost the score for users who know how to apply mods. This is a nice pack to own for the NJT diehards.

This is one of the best F40 series that dovetail has ever made. I can tell they put work into this locomotive. I will say that it had bugs in the past but dovetail have resolved that. I reccomend you use this locomotive with the North Jersey Coast Line and if you don't have, buy the TWIN PACK which includes the route itself and the locomotive for maybe 10% of a discount. Very neat locomotive.

Happy that the bugs are fixed, its fun to drive on custom routes and isnt that bad ever since edits came!

Purcahsed as part of a pack with the NJCL route, but suffers from serious perfomace issues. Running a Core i7 @3.4gHz with 12Gb of RAM and I was dropping well under 20 frames per second. Requested a refund.

This DLC is good, It's better on sale for a few reasons though.

1. It's almost all recycled from the original Soldier Summit/California Zephyr F40. 2 differences, no back ramp into the engine, and it has a higher revving engine.
2. This is so minor but I care because I am picky about this... The horn's a Nathan P5 on the model while in real life, It's a Raised Letter K5LA.
3. Recycled sounds. Next!
4. Interior is a bit off from the real thing, google a picture of the cab...

besides these problems, on sale this is worth a buy.

I'd recommend this for sure! Looks great on the Coastline and Morristown routes along with the N.E.C.
My only complaint is they have recycled sounds like most of the locos they release.

Great locomotive. You actually have an easier way to control the ditch lights, it has a great horn, and a great bell.

It is a very good addon. The only issue that I find is there is no way to turn on the push pull service marker lights like you would see on most locomotives.
