The NKP S-2 Berkshire is underpowered and I can't get it to hold enough steam pressure to even go at more than about 20-30 mph without having to stop and let the pressure build again. And even though I have other rolling stock, TS won't let me couple up anything to it. So all I can do is just putt down the track for a short while then stop and rebuild steam pressure. It's a very frustrating locomotive. And possibly even worse since it is so distracting is that if you open the firebox to add coal while you are in the cab, the flames textures are apparently missing a frame so it flicker flames for a few frames then a red and white warning that it can find a texture, flickers flames for a couple of seconds and then the warning it can't find a texture. This locomotive looks great but is defective. It should not be on the market as DLC unless you want to pay just to look at it. I really can't recommend this one. Get the Challenger instead. It is nice looking and actually works.

What a beautiful steam locomotive! If you're a fan of American Steam you might like this one. It's a little slow though. It took me a while to get the hang of it before I could get this engine up to speed with a consis behind it. Personally, I don't think this engine has the power it should. BUT, I still like driving it.

Does not come with scenarios, passenger cars, or frieght cars. The whistle is different than 765's, but it's still good.

I have no idea what that other review is about running out of steam, I have had no issues with it. The S-2 Berkshire is a big ole girl and is a little touchy when it comes to steam control but after just one practice run I had her all sorted out and running smoothly through the Canadian mounains down to the Miami coastline.

This steam locomotive is a classic MUST HAVE engine for any American rail fans. Once you get used to the steam control its easy to remember and drive. Shes mighty tall and handsome and known quite well by all, pulling the combination all across the states! I have to say that I love this engine and would highly recomend it to anyone who is even considering it. Worth the $20 purchase price.

I'm torn on this, while the exterior of the locomotive looks good, it all falls apart with the cab interior being pixelated and looks outdated for the game. The engine sounds are ok, not great but reasonable. I'd would have rated it postively except the cab view is just as important as the exterior, and they missed the mark with this one.

very neat, i myself am a huge fan of the 2-8-4 berkshire, the sounds are good, the train looks good, and the fact that you can drive #765 without quitting the bgame and replaying the game is pretty cool. but the downfall of this mighty beast is the cab graphics, its just pixelated, not very good, but if your looking for a strong fast heavy hauler, look no more than the NKP S-2 Berkshire!

Ijust purchased this Loco and for me it only rolls down the track. I can only control the speed inside of the cab. None of the controls work and the valve cocks wont close like the bigboy. It has a loud steam hissing sound that never leaves . you can haddly hear the train sounds for this noise. I can not find a way to fix it. It should have worked when sold or give a refund. Problem is after 2 hours there is no refund! I have the same problem with the Big boy. I have two new locos that are usless to me. they never worked from the time I purchased them. Im not happy with , and dont trust any purchases I make for this game.

I love the look and style of it, i love everything about it except the fact that i rarely get over 25 (on flat ground) and have to stop every few miles to build up PSI and i cant hook many cars up to it without it wanting to stop on a hill or in general. if you want pictures and things, i recommend buying this. If you want to pull freight/Passengers with it, don't, because it cant do its job very well.

I don't want to repeat the reviews written down below, so I'll just write my considerations. I've tested it on freight traffic 1-to-1 with Bessemer&Lake Erie Santa Fe on same route (B&LE) and same load (25 loaded coal cars) and can say most misconceptions about this locomotive are based on fact that this is not a freight locomotive at all (just compare 1 to 1 the diameter of driving wheels of Berkshire with Santa Fe or PRR K4) and it can't get that much tractive effort as other smaller locomotives can. Yes, I've read that exactly this locomotive could haul 2500 t of freight (according to this site https://www.steamlocomotive.com/locobase.php?country=USA&wheel=2-8-4), but in real conditions I'd rather use it for express passenger traffic (less traction effort, but more momentum). So basically loss of pressure and loss of speed came from the fact that any steam locomotive in TS (classic or pro range) will very hardly give you desired speed if the throttle and regulator are put nearly to 50%/50% or even bigger, which happens mostly while acceleration from full stop - this is not normal mode for steam locomotive unless the goal is to haul the train at any speed because of lack of motive power. Speaking about its good sides - it looks good for freeroams with 3rd person camera enabled (mostly I drive all steam trains in this mode, so the textures not look so bad for me), speaking about bad sides - it has some issues in geometry load (had freezes) and even crashes because of memory overflow, specially in interior mode (on 8 GB RAM machine). So underscoring all I wrote above - would I recommend it? If you like steam trains and at first glance you like the sound and movement of steam machine (gears and wheels) these issues won't bother you, but if you have issues with your PC or struggle with driving steam trains I'll suggest you to take these reviews quite seriously.
P.S. Just to get the more understanding about the purpose of the locomotive: the USSR had similar designs named IS-20 (passenger) and FD-20 (freight) that have very similar specs and same Whyte number as Berkshire and Santa Fe.
P.P.S. Just for better experience with this locomotive I strongly recommend it to use with next configuration: Locomotive+7 mixed old style Pullman passenger cars like these ones: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/779621299629089621/31A3DB0DD…

I like the Locomotive, the Berkshires type of Locomotives are amazing looking, but there are some things that needs to be fixed, the interior of the cab has to be fixed and accurate,

the wheel gear needs to be accurate and in motion on the throttle and the power on the Locomotive,

needs to be as detailed as Smokebox instead of what it is now,

needs to have correct bells and whistles

and needs to have a whole pack of all Berkshires such as: the Nickle Plate Road 765, the Pere Marquette 1225, and the Chesapeak & Ohio 2716

along side their routes on where they are all at currently, their coaches, and Pere Marquette 1225's extra tender (the Steam Railroad Institute tender)

It is an amazing model, and even though the whistle may be off a bit. (Not High enough to be a Nathan 6 chime). I still enjoy running it, as I used to ride on the 765 frequently

I love the Nickel Plate Berkshires, and I'm sure this was a brilliant add on when it first came out, but it hasn't aged well at all. A lot of people are saying it's powerful, but I've struggled to get a 40-50 car train moving behind it, even though the real thing did that on a regular basis with relative ease.

For those not aware, this is a port of an MSTS locomotive. Graphic wise, it looks better than the original MSTS model (the dynamic lighting in Railworks helps a lot), but it's appearance hasn't stood the test of time very well.

I'm not thrilled with the sounds. Berkshires have a lot of bark and thrash to them when it runs along irl.

The only positive I can really give on this is that on Railworks America, there is a mod for this addon that allows you to have a somewhat accurate C&O Kanawha, which was never available for MSTS/Open Rails.
