This game has so much DLC for several times the price of the base game that I don't recommend this DLC because of developer greed, regardless of its content.

Táto hra obsahuje toľko veľa DLC za sumu niekoľko násobne vyššiu ako je cena základnej hry, že toto DLC neodporúčam z dôvodu chamtivosti vývojára, bez ohľadu na jeho obsah.

THE CAKE MAKER

It adds a building,a building that is complety useless since there a far more efficient industry buildings in the game and the scenario that it adds is really boring. Its a waste of time and money.

Buy only if you want to lose money, the music track sucks balls aswell.
Is there a way to remove it?

TL;DR at end

honestly, i didn't notice a change (pre-ordered so got this as soon as it came out and i don't play all that much) with this DLC. calling this a DLC is a strech as one building doesn't add much (and this building sucks)

don't get me wrong though. i have enjoyed tropico since i started playing (tropico 3 was my first of the series) and i also enjoy DLCs for games such as Crusader Kings II and Payday 2 - bought nearly all of them as the content was satisfactory. HOWEVER, adding one lack luster building for $3.99 is not worth the money. If say 5-10 buildings were added in then it would be worth the my money. Even probably $10 for 5-10 buildings.

TL;DR Tropico is a game about managing money and making your people happy. Devs want us to lose money and be pissed.

Sure, it doesn't add much. But I got this during a sale and wouldnt say it was a waste of money.

Also, one word:

PainDealer
PainDealer

Got this as a pre-order bonus, so no money wasted there. You might wanna grab it -66% or something as it doesn't really add much.

Yes the potential for economic growth with this game is unlimited. I don't think people realize once you have the building you can use it in any other missions you are given. Where before missions may have began to feel tedious or overwhelming, it adds new ways to navigate your way thru the main story campaign or the side missions. The more DLC I purchase the more complete the game feels and more balanced it feels on any difficulty level, for any campaign/mission.

I love to see so many people taking the time to complain about a game, but not give any actual feedback as to how it hindered their gameplay experience or how they could have improved. Not very helpful to the creators if you just say it sucked and whine about the $5 you had to spend on it.

Just a heads up to future bad reviewers, give them info on how they could have improved it, don't just complain about it. I have a feeling all this DLC is adding up to another large campaign mission that will be much easier to complete provided you have these additional buildings. Although on their own they seem useless, as I go along here, the more has certainly been the merrier.

This DLC is really nice because it allows you to build another industry building in the starting Colonial era, namely the Creamery. It turns milk into cheese. Overall very usefull to have since you can't build any other industry buildings in the Colonial era apart from a lumber mill to turn logs into planks. It also provides some other bonuses including one that gains support of the nationalists.

I had played this Tropico 5 DLC when it first came out. The Big Cheese storyline was very funny and creative. After beating the Big Cheese mission (which was a bit short), help keep my island rolling in money during the World Wars era (for the mission takes place in the Colony era). The DLC did seem too short, but the added building does help industry heavy players. I do hope they add more money making DLCs in the future.

The creamery is useful and the DLC mission is pretty fun.

Really nice small dlc that adds a new building for some early industrial & money in the Colonial era.

amjh

The building doesn't really add anything to the game, and the mission is very weak. Most of the challenge comes from unpredictable story events you need to prepare for in advance, meaning you have to memorize them from failed runs to have a change. Era and mission restrictions mean that most of the gameplay features from the base game are absent or meaningless.

MalistiX

It adds barely anything but costs quite a lot. basicly for this price you would expect 4 times the content. And that would still be quite expensive, they should just add workshop content, open the code, and bam, thousands of free buildings.

Oh hi, me again, telling you why your 3.99 could be spent better buying a razor to shave a rather hairy baby with, than giving to Kalypso.

See, the shaved baby is funny, and interesting. This DLC is not. This DLC is boring.

What's it add? Nothing. Nothing because all the files are actually already on the game, you downloaded them already. It simply unlocks them.

What's it unlock?

More nothing. A scenario that is easy to do (make new DLC building, Make cows, wait...win!)

A hat

And a New Factory!! Oh boy!

But wait, it's a factory in the early game. You can't actually educate citizens to be High School level (which a factory needs) in the first era anyway. So you can't really build more than one, or really set up a massive cheese island until later on when you have access to considerably better industries.

So what's the point even.

What's funny is that the "Quick Dry" DLC for tropico 4 is very similar. It added a low tier factory that was esentially self sufficient. However, unlike that DLC, this doesn't actually help your island early on as it sucks up High School educated workers away from more important building. If you plan on having a Professional army in the next era, you'll be rudely awakened to how valuable High School education is.

Great job Kalypso.

Alas, this is the last review I can do on Tropico 5 DLC. At this point, giving them more money, even at a sale price, I feel is worse that giving them Honest reviews telling people not to buy them.

Still bugged. You will not be able to get out of the colonial era.

I'm an experienced player of the series. I've finished the campaigns. I know what i'm doing and how to get out of the colonial era. I had 75% happiness and 80% revolutionary support. The mission to progress never appears.

I thought it was just me until i came here and read everyone elses review. Six months after another person raised the issue and it is still bugged.

I love the content and the idea but it makes this DLC unplayable.

Cons:
- You get a new scenario and new building. The bug in this scenario makes it unplayable and instantly you lose most of the value from buying a new DLC (the scenario).
- Cost. $4 USD is simply too much, i got it on sale for $1.99. You should not buy it for less.

Pros:
+ New building
+ A use for milk
+ An interesting scenario with good text and dialogue (until you cannot progress further)

I would say that this DLC is not too bad and it has a good and fun mission. If you are like me, I am almost 100% sure that there are no achievments for it. The creamery is a useful early-game industry that can bring in lots of money. This also adds a very cool map. In conclusion, I would recommend this to people who do the missions and the campaigns.

Makes the colonial era more interesting with an industry building that makes cheese. Still is my top export in modern era.

I got this DLC free for preordering Tropico 5 back when it came out so I can honestly say it was worth every penny.

I always use the creamery in my games, it's a good way to make money early on without having to build too much. The single mission included was fun and moderately challenging. I don't care about the outfits, they are all awful, and I'm sure the map was fine, I don't remember. It's not worth the full price, none of the DLC are, but I would pick it up on a half off sale.

Helen_NZ
Helen_NZ

The campaign is not great (you can't get out of Colonial Age, which is always annoying) but the Cheese Factory is very useful for other scenarios and sandbox, since it's an early-game industrial building.

Ezri Steel
Ezri Steel

Though the price is a bit large, I would wait for a sale and buy this DLC.
Most of the DLC contains generally useless buildings that just do what can already be done a 'little' better or give you a minor little boost in some stat you forgot the game had, but the Creamery is extremely useful. It turns the Milk you get from Cattle Ranches into a very profitable source of income and makes the game much more interesting by adding a new trade good and source of income.
Though I would still think this DLC should have just been released as part of the base game, I see it kind of like the Quick Dry Cement DLC from Tropico 4: Containing a very helpful building that can assist you a great deal in expanding your nation's income and helping you grow.
Just wait for a sale and buy it for $2. It's worth it for $2, not $4.

Antwog
Antwog

This is a decent DLC. I got it on sale for $1.40, it is worth it at that price but I can't finish this mission. My economy is booming, problem is the cheese outputs didn't actually leave the dock at the rate I wanted it to (I had over 4,000 per shipment for export, only about 500 left) so that made things slow. To add to this, the mandate ends that quickly that for me on three attempts, the mandate offers you, as the president get, aren't enough.

The building is the only thing I overly like, it provides a good sustainble amount of income.

Purchase on sale, its a good challenge but after three attempts, I gave up. It isn't very optimised task wise as becoming independant barely happens, I got to 62% and nothing happened, I red on the internet someone reached 75%+ and he couldn't declare independance, so its a miss. 4/10.

It's helpful to have a really money-making industry right in the Colonial era.

ladyheather_86

Slightly challenging mission, given the need for constantly increasing your time limit.
Creamery building is a nice addition, but you don't get an achievement for completing it, which personally I think is daft as you get no recognition that you have actually done that mission. Bought it whilst on sale, definitely not worth the full price.

SimuLord

Here's the thing about DLC like this. Either it suits your playstyle, in which case you wait for a sale and get a spiffy addition to your game (I got this for a buck). Or it's not really in line with what you like to do when you play a game like this, in which case you ignore it or grab it as part of a DLC bundle later on down the line.

So that's the essence of my recommendation here. Wait for a sale (these things are frequently sold for less than the cost of a value-menu cheeseburger), and if you have a playstyle heavily oriented toward production chains and a self-contained island economy, get more value out of your cattle or goat ranching.

Big Cheese is the first tiny DLC. One skin, one building, one mission, one map, yay. Oh, and unlike Tropico 4, one music track too. Here we go again. This time it's all about cheese.
And this is we got for pre-ordering Tropico 5. Should have knew better what kind of the first DLC it would be.

Mission is pretty nice. Aside from promoting Tropican cheeseyness it also locks you up in Colonian era, you can't advance. It's actually an interesting challenge. While you don't have to think of supporting revolutioners as much, they can also sometimes get angry. At least I got some "cmon cmon!" moments when I was waiting for next ship to come so I could complete The Crown's mission as my mandate time was running out, suspecting that I should have build another dock. So I am amused.

And then there is Cheese industrial building. It makes cheese out of milk that is produced by goats and cattle ranches, not goats and llamas as store info hints. It may not look much, but main point of it is that it's available during Colonial era, where the only other industry building is Lumber Mill, the planks that it produced being a mid-step between logs and furniture anyway. So it got it's use, yep. Even though I am not sure you are supposed to make lots of money at Colonial era.

I got this because I pre-ordered, but it does help a lot having this building right in the beginning. The mission itself was a whole lot of "meh". I beat it just to say I did.

Thing X
Thing X

While i see there are a lot of negative reviews about this dlc i disagree on only a couple of points. In my opinion the building is a useful economic stepping stone as it is available when the game starts. No other industry building is available at the start of the game. You might say lumber mill. WRONG!. You have to research it, which means it is not available at the absolute start of the game, shortly after yes, but you can't for example, queue up construction for a goat ranch and a cheese factory first thing at the start. Yes cheese sells for less than lumber, but it should for two reasons. One in real life cheese costs less than lumber. Two it is good balancing for the bulding that requires research to provide more income. Yet another problem about the lumber mill that is overlooked is that in the colonial age its operating cost is more. Yes the budget is about the same but i did not say budget i said operating cost. By way of explanation if you don't want to import logs you need lumber camps. In the colonial era you can't buy the reforestry upgrade for lumber camps. So what happens when the trees are deplted in the lumber camps area? KABOOM! That's what happens. Your lumber camp goes kaboom meaning you've just lost a 700-1000 dollar building and if you don't build another one you have to now import logs. So operating a lumber yard is more expensive than a cheese factory in the colonial era. For that reason alone it is more profitable in that era. Sure once you hit world wars era it is the least profitable industry from that point on. Yet going into the World Wars you will have more money starting off. It also only requires 4 high school workers. While the lumber yard only require illiterate workers it requires 8. If your computer is not capable of running more than 2000 citizens during a game, that is a problem once you reach the tail end of the cold war. In my case i can only run 3000 citizens, which during the modern era makes the building more valuable from a workforce stand point. If i could run a game with 4000 citizens well i might demolish those cheese factories. Amazingly enough, i run cheese factories throughout the entire game and they just work well.

As for the mission i agree meh.

Is it worth the price? I have to reply kind of. If you just love dlc from the bottom of your heart and you have a wallet filled to burst with money, than sure, absolutely. If you are like me and the dlc only matters for its functionality and the fun of the mission, than the answer is depends. Do you like missions more than game dynamics? If so it is not worth your money. If you like game dynamics more and your wallet is getting ready to burst from all the great amounts of cash in it, sure get it. Yet the way i got it since i only have a moderate income and my wallet is certainly never getting ready to start leaking 100 and thousand dollar bills cause it's just too full, i did the more economical thing which made the price worth it for me. I got it on sale for under a dollar. For those cents i spent i am really happy with my purchase.

I pre-ordered the game so I got this as soon as it came out. This DLC adds one building that makes cheese, thats it! So it help you off a little in the Colonial era. The new building, called "The Creamery" is a fun and interesting addition to the game. A very useful building to have in the Colonial era.

For me this is one of the most helpful DLCs Kalypso has released for Tropico 5 because in the colonial era it's excellent to build the first industry (Creamery) and earn money by trading

Ridiculously expensive for adding one building and one cheap mission. The Creamery itself at leasts provides some amusement in providing extra food as well as entertainment for the workers.

The mission it adds is a colossal scam. You start in the Colonial era and have to export $120,000 worth of cheese. In typical Tropico fashion, there's a horde of problems that come along to stymie this objective, as well as some to help it along by increasing the value of cheese.

What makes the mission a total scam though is that there is no declaring independence, so if your mandate runs out, you lose. The opportunities to extend your mandate are exactly the same as the base game, ie, no extra opportunities, so even if you complete all the secondary objectives to increase the value of cheese, choose the right people to test new cheeses on to extend your mandate or give you more money, you'll still fail the mission.

I had 3 creameries operating with 6 milk-producing ranches, all the secondary objectives complete, no labor shortages, and ended up with just over $70,000 out of $120,000 exported and ended up failing the mission by running out of time. Total scam.

This is not a really bad dlc. It is ok, the voices are nice, they have a new soundtrack and having industry in colonial is nice, but I wish to punch the creator of the mission in the face badly. The mission is all about cheese - how to increase price, how to call it - it all revolves around cheese. And then your factories are getting disabled for roughly 3 years. Disabled Creamery. On the map where you are supposed to learn all about that building.
I wonder who had that idea.

Absolute garbage. An utter waste of money.

I've started over twice now, and every single time when I reach around 33-35K profit from cheese, both creameries say "THIS BUILDING DOESN'T WORK DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES".

I have absolutely no edicts, I have numerous goat farms, and plenty of teamsters. It doesn't matter what I do, the game is completely bugged against continuing at this point.

Don't waste your money because you cannot win.
