This is an on-rails walking simulator that is meant as a relaxation app / nature walk. It's running on the Unity Engine. The walk itself takes only 5 minutes long if you run from point A to point B, but obviously, it's not meant to be played that way. You should stop & smell the roses in this game (may want to carry a bouquet of roses in your hands for the ultimate in mixed reality gaming).

There are much better games of this type, including Myrdalssandur, Iceland VR. However, this game is bargain-priced. I did experience low frame rates and pop-in issues on my 1060 GTX, but I am below the recommended specs. In fact, an RTX 2080 is recommended. Also, while you can use motion controllers, you're only using them as a joystick. I would recommend a gamepad or just the keyboard as you can only move forward, back, or stop on the pre-determined path.

It is a pretty game. I wish I could play a VR game in this map (only much larger than this map). The light & shadows look especially good. The textures are decent too. The sound mix is okay. I mean the sounds are appropriate for this type of game, but it's not anything special.

The game is only $2 USD (I bought it on sale 10% off) and part of the profits go to COVID-19 relief efforts. So if you want a little nature walk in VR, why not? It's good enough. It's just not Myrdalssandur, Iceland VR good. No shame in that I guess.

Rate 5/10. Would have rated this higher just a year ago.

Can get a bit glitchy sometimes, but its really nice.

I live next to a wood.
It's a nice place to relax, but going there requires me to put on pants, which isn't happening today.
This is a good representation of a virtual wood, or vwood, with nobody to enforce arbitrary 'forest' dress-codes.

The rail based system is a bit nauseating at times as it jerks your vision. There are some pop-ins and the sounds of the fields are not very convincing.
For me it is worth the purchase price. I hope the dev(s) expand on the concept beyond unity base features in a future game. I'm gladly supporting a dev with what amounts to the price of a coffee.

It's on rails.
Press UP or DOWN to go forward or backwards on predetermined loop at 5 km/h for 5-10 minutes.
No exploration as in a hunter game but still nice scenery.

The scenery is quite pretty but extreamly dull for the most part, no real hero pieces. The game is on rail and I thought that maybe that will work despite that; but I feel like it really takes you out of the feeling of walking in a forest with so little control of your motions. Sometimes it is causing a slight motion sickness when the predeterment path turns you without your control. It is cheap though and I guess you can’t ask for too much.

UPDATE: After the patch and the addition of freewalk most of my complaints are gone, even the fixed heigth is no issue anymore! Just remember to activate freewalk with the mouse before going into vr.

REVIEW before the patch:

I do recommend this little walking experiment but do have some wishes for updates: While I understand that it is no freewalk and the motion happens on rails, I would like some places to sit down. It does not have to be free walk or teleport but maybe 2/3 places one can teleport to at the side? On a tree stump maybe or a big rock? And why am I not allowed to examine the scenery or ground a little closer? The floor always goes down with me, there seems to be a fixed height... and what about some ordinary little birds that fly around or occupie a branch? It has not to be animated perfectly but it would give the place more life and more to watch... the gfx and especially the light look good though! I am very interested how this one evolves!

The scenery may be somewhat impressive, however the VR implementation lacks a lot.

The camera is locked on a set path. This also means that even small movements of your head is not translated into the game, this leads to some strange motion sickness feeling, like when watching 360 movies in VR.

You start at one end of the path, and only via holding a button can you reach the other end 5mins or so away.
This is rather annoying. A few shortcuts or some way to travel faster would have been better.

The graphics look better on a screen than in a headset. This is due to the fact that the scenes have moving plants and huge differences in light. This leads one to easly spot that one is caught inside a VR headset. Eg. the experience is not tuned to VR.

All in all this feels like some spent some time in Unity creating a nice looking forest. Then followed a short tutorial on youtube to add the simplest form of VR, to barely make it a VR experience.

Add to it that this app was pushed on Facebook using a sad story about a company trying to recoup some losses after investing in this "project" and the fact that the developer has since posted NOTHING in the thread or on steam discussions... I think this is just a scam to get some money from VR enthusiasts with the least work as possible.

Wow, I can't believe I ''Feel Sick'' from just Walking in the Woods!

Things I Like:
- The Concept of an Relaxing Escape Game where it Takes you out in to the Woods! is Really Cool & Awesome!
Thank you Developers for bringing this type of experience.
- Scenery is Beautiful! When you stop moving and look around you'll noticed the amount of detail in the Image!
- Sun Rays are Breathtaking! STUNNING!
- it was Cheap! Note: I bought it for $2.99 So for what you get it is Worth it! But, it can use some Work!

Things I Disliked:
- Movement System is on Rails. I was Hoping for a Free Roaming Style Simulator that uses Smooth Locomotion.
Note: I have a Pair of Cybershoes and was really wanting to use them to Walk Around! NOPE! just Push Analog
Stick Forward and Move at a Really Slow Pace! So Slow, I didn't even finish due to Feeling Sick!
- Very Buggy- The image jumps around and has you Feeling Sick! it is Not a Smooth Walk!
- The Woods have No Life! Other than the Sound Effects!
Note: I was wanting to see some kind of Bugs, Birds, Owl, Deer, or even a Bear. Something, Any thing
would have been nice to see. Not Much in Animations! The Clouds don't even Move!

Overall, I Am Happy with it. for what I Paid! This Program is Great! But, It Still can use a lot of Work!

Frozen in place, no real VR implementation, and horrid sound fixed to certain spots. Could have been better.

1 - No antialiasing, so no matter what resolution you have on your hmd (i have a Pimax), it's a flicker party everywhere (TAA i suggest, post-process AA like fxaa and smaa never worked well in VR)
2 - blue boundaries are very distracting, you should lower the visibility range (or hide completely)
3 - no options, even the most fundamental, at least supersampling (and antialiasing) should be present, reset hmd position too, i'm above the floor.
4 - You have to go to desktop to set walking option (i can live with that)
5 - crashed near the wood house (after right turn, near the water sound)
6 - too many birds sounds on the forest, they never shut up

Playing with the HTC Vive,
Very Peaceful walk simulator that allows you to relax and take a walk in the Woods.
No major issues and it is my hope the creators will continue to update this Walk with Animals.
Thank you very Much, I really enjoy this peaceful creation 🍂🌲🍁🌼

Very pretty! I crossed my fingers and hoped this walk in the woods would work on my potato and Oculus Rift and it ran quite well. A few flickering issues, but my headset is over two years old too, so it could be on my end. Basically you get a refreshing walk or bike ride on a set track. You can explore a bit more while walking and have more freedom, but it's still a looped track. Which is OK for the current price of $1.99 USD. I'd like to see a bigger map or animals maybe, but overall it's refreshing to have a new nature game.

Played on Valve Index VR headset - works great. I liked that there are different types of terrain in the game: forest and fields, which are very different from each other. The forest is very detailed and realistic, albeit a corridor. Fields are inferior in detail, but it is a location that you must experience in "Freewalk" mode. If you walk off the main road, you will find yourself in a hidden camp (it is located to the right of the bridge). Finding this camp in "bicycle" mode is not possible. There is an alternative path to the forest from the camp - you go up the stream, not along the road. My advice to developers is to add more hidden locations like the camp. For example, you can somehow rethink the hut that is located on the hill.

This experience should be free, hence the bad review. People have put effort on this, and should be rewarded for it, true; but in comparison to the VR experience market, this should totally be free.
Being not free, a much higher quality would be expected, or a longer duration. The graphics are nice, but not impressive. The sound is terrible. They chose the most infuriating type of bird noise, and made it loop in a very short cycle. Really? setting a 3-time the length track would have been costy? And about the navigation 'on-rail', it would have been acceptable, if not for those brutal turns the camera makes without your consent, as many reviews has criticized already.

In this time of "shelter in place" there is a need for such a virtual nature-walk. It is well done and well worth the nominal price. Happy to support your efforts, good luck.

My rig: Ryzen 5 1600 and Gtx 1070
I havent really had a problem with anything in VR yet, but with this Im pushing 30 frames and get quite a bit of stuttering. It's still beautiful and nice to look around but tell me it can't be optimized for a mid-range rig! Ryzen 7 with 1080 as recommended? Oof.

Does what it says on the tin.

You walk in the woods.

Has good graphics.
Has good sounds
And during lock down, with a fan on, you get the wind in your hair as well.

I actually enjoyed it more than i expected given how simple it is.

Could do with some wild life though.

TheOneHitPupper

Decent looking but much too small. There are open areas on the path you are unable to walk to. Also get this weird spinning bug on the Windows Mixed Reality headset.

TheMrAtlas

When the game first came out I didn't enjoy it much. You were locked on a set path with birds screeching in your ears, trees would pop in and out of existence and the frame rate all over the place.

Now its a great experience. The trees and other flora are really nicely detailed. The birds have gotten quieter. The performance is great. You can freely walk around the woods and take in nature. Which is good when you don't live close to nature and are trapped inside because of 2020.

It's simple, there's no map, but the graphics and effort put into the landscape is very good.

It's way better than any of the other VR nature/scenery enviorments I've downloaded and paid 10x the amount for.

I recommend this for the curious. I hope to see Brightdawn continue to evolve this as an exploration of the concept, and to give us a reason to come back to the woods.

With freewalk you are no longer on rails, but the controls still need improvement. Once it got moving i couldn't stop 'walking', could not change pace or stand still. The sound is static; that limits the immersion. This would feel more natural with spatial sound, and different bird and insect sounds in unique areas of the woods. The weather could shift.

The movement felt good and did not make me feel ill - at first - the inability to stop moving became disorienting after a few minutes.

I am impressed with the level of attention to nature detail. I would like to see what can be done with reshade or with more fine textures, so the foliage feels less plastic.

This could be simply a 15 minute ride, or if it evolves, a meditation device. Or the makings of a new Walden.

This forest scenery is very well made with many details and it's fun to explore,
BUT please expand it and make it a bigger map!
ALSO in order to really enjoy this VR-Experience you should have a gtx 1660 or better!

A restful, relaxed stroll through the woods. As far as graphics are concerned, unless you're a AAA studio with a million dollar budget, I'd say they are about as good as you can expect at this stage of VR. Some reviews describe it as on rails with no freedom of movement. The newer version gives you freedom to wander at will along the trails, caves and fields though there are fences, downed trees, ect. to keep you within prescribed boundaries. I plan on coming back occasionally to relax. It cost 79 cents on sale. I'd say I definitely got my monies worth out of it.

Kobs
Kobs

I think it's pretty cool, they must've made it better since the review I read cause it doesn't feel like you're on rails, it has a path to follow but it's not linear you can go here or there, turn, go back or do it again etc. It's pretty relaxing, thankfully the sounds of achievement are heard only once but that aside I have nothing bad to say about it, it's a walk in the woods, there's a cave of some sort, a cabin, a log house to explore I can't wait till they expand it further and add more trails. Wish we could go further in the woods (side to side or climb on rocks) but for the price it's awesome, good job devs .

Unfortunately, this experience is very poorly optimised. With a watercooled OCed 2080 ti, I can barely run it at 100% resolution on my Vive Pro, and it needs far more supersampling to feel like not everything is glistening all the time due to the edges. Needs far more optimisation unfortunately.

This is not a game, it's a place. You pay $3 to have access to a beautiful place to walk around and just be. And I think that's completely worth it.

I live in a cold, dreary grey city, and there is snow on the ground and everything is grey and sad. I have depression and seasonal depression on top of that. When I opened this app for the first time, the bliss was undescribable. Immediate relief. Being able to escape the dark and the grey and the concrete, into a place where the birds are singing and the sun is bright and golden.... I would've paid a lot more. If you know someone who struggles with seasonal depression, I highly recommend you get this for them. It is so simple but so effective. It heals. Thank you developers.

PS: I play on Linux with a Radeon VII and HTC Vive. Some of the controls are not to my taste and there doesn't seem to be an options menu. Also the graphics on Linux don't seem to look exactly the same/as good as the screenshots/windows videos. But it is very close. I don't mind, it isn't meant to be a complicated experience anyway. I can go to the forest and see the sun, so I am happy with my purchase.

I liked it a lot. It seems like there is a story in there. I wanted to figure out where everyone is and what is with the cave. I feel like secret things happen in there. All in all, worth taking the time to download. I really hope they add more!
