A Walk With Yiayia is a short wholesome game, about a grandsone taking his grandmother for a walk after a bad fall.
The game has a beautiful narrative and a lovely aesthetic.
The mini quests and interactions are well crafted and clever and emotional.
I really enjoyed the story and knowing bits and pieces of Yiayia's life.
plus i had a bug that stopped from finishing the game,i contacted the dev and had a reply in the hour and the bug was fixed in a day.
The dev clearly cares about the game and it shows.
I highly recommend it.
Well if you excuse me now i have to go take a walk with my Yiayia.
A wonderful little game. I think for people who have cared for their grandma, like myself, it will hit closer. It's not afraid to be true to the stories of the lead, which aren't always pleasant, but contain an acceptance and careful touch I don't really see too often. I was struck by the game, only took me an hour to get through, but that's fine as I don't think making it longer would make the game any better. I would recommend this for people who are looking for a narrative experience. It's a nice little game and one that I'll remember for a while.
This is truly one of my favourite cozy games! The graphics and the music are so well done, and the interactive parts of the game and the quests are both emotional and well thought out. I loved learning more about yiayia's backstory, and bits about her life. Being a carer of my own grandma who falls regularly, I related to this game so much. Thanks Trent for making this emotional but comforting game
A Walk with Yiayia is a cozy game that I feel depicts the grandmother and grandson relationship perfectly. Before I go any further there will be spoilers at the bottom of my review so here is a quick tldr. Short Wholesome game with a lot of emotional depth/introspective analysis, mini games, beautiful pixel art, a really cool ball, and a LOT of yiayia.
SPOILERS:
For starters, I am not a big fan of slice of life games. When I was younger I was a sucker for Harvest Moon, but as I got older I began to lose interest in that genre. When I started playing this I was getting a little antsy, I wanted to jump into exploring the neighborhood and seeing what there is to offer. But as you will quickly learn yiayia can't go that fast, so in the beginning you have to walk, then wait, then walk, then wait. It's annoying, but that's the point. My grandmother can't move nearly as fast as I can, so I have to be patient and slow my pace to match hers. As I accepted that I wouldn't be able to book it through the game, I started to take in the scenery a bit more, look around the neighborhood. Small details that I wouldn't normally notice I could thanks to yiayia. More time passed and I slowly began to fall in love with this game.
I can't believe I almost forgot to mention this, but the game is beautiful! The black and white pixel art is stunning and is eye candy to look at. I wanted to do everything, find the neighbor's missing cat, grab some carrots to make dinner, and keep the (my) ball that the neighborhood kid lost (which I couldn't :/ ). Although losing the ball is my biggest demon, yiayia has some of her own. I was pretty surprised to hear all the trials and tribulations in her life as well as her shortcomings, but I loved it. It's the human experience to make stupid decisions and I'm glad this game explores those. Regrets are something we all have and "A Walk With Yiayia" is all about accepting them and moving forward to become a better you. Before I wrap this up, I want to mention that this game is very short. My run time came in just under an hour. Although it's a short game, I think it's the perfect length. It's enough time to leave you satisfied and doesn't feel like it's dragging. I think of it like a nice meal from your local Deli. Not too pricey, tastes good, and doesn't take too long to finish. This game is 100% worth your time and money.
Wholesome perfectly describes "A Walk with Yiayia." I found myself smiling often while I was playing, laughing at Yiayia chastising you for swearing, tearing up at her stories. This game will make you feel all the feelings and absolutely have you coming back for a second play through! I already can't wait to walk with Yiayia again.
This game was a refreshing take on the art of storytelling. Low-risk mini-games help give life to the stories that unfold and you feel like you're getting a real glimpse into someone's life. The dialogue is very true to life and at times, comically contrasting to what you might expect at first glance. I recommend this game to anyone interested in story book style games!
Be prepared for a very strong emotional reaction when you play this game, especially if you have a close relationship with your grandmother or any loved one faced with aging. A Walk with Yiayia uses beautiful storytelling techniques combined with a unique graphics style. It will really pull at your heartstrings, so keep your tissues handy. Great job for this solo game developer on his maiden voyage!
This is an amazing game. It’s gentle and touching and it made me cry. A first in the historically and notoriously emotionally-stunted world of PC gaming. Triple-A developers have a lot to learn from Trent Garlipp, a solo developer who manages to wring both the art and soul from the medium, delivering a gaming experience that raises the bar for what we should expect from video game story-telling. There are brilliant uses of video and other media that make the story that much more compelling. Compared to your run-of-the-mill, uncanny valley cut scene…as seen in most triple-A titles, A Walk With Yiayia is a breath of fresh air. This game makes the medium better and elevates game design to an art.
It’s a short game, but it’s designed to be. It’s a one-sitting game (between an hour and an hour and a half). It’s an emotional experience, more akin to a movie than a traditional video game, but with interactive elements that make all the narrative that much more impactful.
The more people who experience this game and the more developers who understand what their games could be, the better for all of us.
Very cool art/design. It's an interactive short story. A few things need polish (I accidentally triggered the rest by the stream twice and couldn't skip), and there was more blood than I expected from a granny walking simulator, but over all would recommend this charming story.
A Walk With Yiayia is a short, but sweet, narrative-driven game about nostalgia and regrets. As you walk through the level, the feeling of time passing by is much like our lives passing us by. The game shows that life is short and we have to cherish every moment of it. Some of the gameplay choices could have been a little more refined, like the airplane and boat sections. However, it's a game that should be experienced. It also works really well on the Steam Deck.
I saw a preview for this game in a Wholesome Games showcase and it struck me so hard. I immediately wishlisted it. This experience is very short, but very beautiful in the art, music, and narrative. I was reminded of times when my grandmother was visiting from Guam and I would walk her to and from the senior center. I had always thought she was too mean and severe, but after I got to know her I understood the source of her pain. This game was an incredibly touching experience and helped me remember the wonderful time I spent with my nana before she passed. I would 100% recommend this to anyone, and will definitely do so. Thank you for the work that was put into this.
A short and sweet game
A short and sweet, sincere game that was wonderful to play. Loved the exploration of growing older, the complex family relationships, and the music and visuals. It all felt so personal but relatable. Great work!
An adorable short story game!
I never got the chance to really get to know any of my grandparents, so this game was a cute way for me to experience the bond with a grandparent.
The developer sent me a steam key, but I decided to purchase it to support them! ❤
What a beautifully written and touching game this is. I very much enjoyed the gameplay and learning about Yiayia. The music is very well done and sentimental. This game is truly a labor of love. Highly recommend!

This was such a beautiful little game oh my goodness.
It's a little story about walking with your grandma that feels incredibly personal and touching, i totally didnt cry a few times during my playthru nooo.
I loved the art direction for it, the different little gameplay moments, as well as how the story was told and how it ended. Its worth every moment.
This game is my personal goty for short story telling games for sure.
Also want to say the dev has been incredible with helping me figure out a problem i had with the game earlier, much thanks!
