Wow this is a really original piece and I LOVE it. It was really fun to play, doing another run right now. I feel like I really need a drink....

It doesnt have any WOW! moments but it's an enjoyable, funny, light-hearted experience from start to finish. It has great dialogue like it's predecessor, Oxenfree. No gameplay to speak of other than a couple of mini-games.
It is a little too long for what's on offer but, on the other hand, I actually laughed on several occasions which is something rare in games these days.

I definitely can't recommend this to everyone. The story and world building is really great. The problem resides in the format. Since this is a video game, players get a closer connection to the characters and world, but I can't help but think the narrative would have worked better as a show. The script is very well written, and the dialogue feels authentic for the characters. Everyone is sarcastic and mean, which is fitting as the game is set in hell. Problems arise in the gameplay. I ran into multiple bugs and glitches while playing, such as getting stuck on weird paths and characters jerking around randomly. At one point it stopped me from being able to progress but I managed to wiggle through and finish that section of the game. This game is a walking simulator, so you're holding a direction key for 90% of the gameplay while listening to the dialogue. This is okay for most people, but some players don't have the energy to commit to a game like this. Buy at your own discretion.

I just LOVE the concept of having new dialogue options when you're drunk. Also, some drinks make you angrier, some more courageous or flirtatious, some make you tell awful jokes and after one you talk like a pirate, arrrr! There are about 15 different drinks with their own effects. And moral of the story? Drink, drink, drink!

This game needs the visual novel treatment, and by that I mean it needs a dialog skip button, playing thru this game once sucked, playing thru it twice for achievements was one of the most boring and painful achievement runs I've done.

Not sure if the booze does help in making decision or even play beer pong. If you like to play with your morals without checking if you're making the right choice, then this game is not for you and is it is for you at the same time. Afterparty has a mix of using humor and also dealing with personal demons which makes you think and contemplate whether saying the truth, not or being drunk is the best option. Good script writing and alot of revelations and events that would really make you say WTF?! in the best possible way.
Till this point not sure if the booze does really help in the game. It can make things better or worst. Give it a try and see how well you fair with your decision.
I just did my first run, I think the ending was fine. Let's see other alternatives to this game. So is the devil in the drink or the choice we make?

Ghostwolf

Unlike Oxenfree with its intriguing story, Afterpaty is extremely boring.

Visually, it looks great. The idea of going to hell and discovering yet another interpretation of how could it look like is interesting. But a lot of references and jokes are based on stuff that probably only people living in a religious society can fully understand and relate to. Otherwise, the story doesn't work: it's getting more or less good in the final hour, yet the final is crumpled.

Dialogs are terrible. They talk too fast and use too much slang, it was hard to follow even with subtitles.

There are probably two or three minigames that took maybe ten minutes of the total playthrough. Othether than that, I was just running from point A to point B. It's not even a good walking simulator compared to Oxenfree and many other story-driven games.

Love the game so much. From the dialogue, to the voice acting, music, and artistic direction, I loved every bit of it.

it was a quite interesting and enjoyable run, neither too long nor rushed to the end. the voice acting and soundtrack are perfect, which have to be because they are the backbone of this type of games.
aaaand be ready for really good amount of sarcasm and dark humor, the game is full of them.

I love this game. Similar enough to Oxenfree that if you liked that game, you will love this game. But it's also different enough that it doesn't feel like a retread. Thoroughly enjoying it. My favorite game score composer did the music, so audio-wise this game is serene. Ideal, even.

Afterparty is Night School Studio's second graphic adventure game. Like Oxenfree before, the game tells a dark and surreal story using the same gameplay formula, this time involving two college grads who recently died under mysterious circumstances and got a one way ticket to Hell.

Meet Milo and Lola

A fantastic duo of best friends who face eternal damnation. There is only one way to escape from Hell: outdrink the Lord of Darkness himself, Satan. if they succeed, they can safely return to the world of the living. It's just as simple as that. No surprises or big twists around the corner; it's a story that mostly plays by itself. Despite being a game of choices that partially affect the plot and what other characters say about Milo and Lola, there are only two predefined endings. What I feel disapponted about is that there is only one way of interpretation, but you understand that only during the credits.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2684219502

The game is about alcohol and relationships, and how they affect us. It's nothing philosophical and it's always kept funny by clever dialogues and great sense of humor, though there are some jokes that can be only understood by americans and christians (and those who know these two well enough). Milo and Lola are inseparable, but you can only play as one and swap at different times. This way you get to know both, while their subconscious is constantly brought up by a personal demon who torments them every now and then.

A new mechanic is also introduced. Throughout this hell of a journey you will visit many bars and clubs where you can order different types of drinks that change your attitude and expand dialogue options. For instance, you can talk like a pirate, be a cheerful romantic, or just a dirty mobster. It's a nice addition that adds some variation to conversations, but it also feels like a wasted opportunity since it doesn't have much effect on gameplay.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2674722824

Aside from drinking and talking to demons and other condemned humans, there is not much else to do in Hell. A few mini-games (like Beer Pong) are available during some crucial parts of the story, while overall there is a huge lack of interactivity with the level design. From the main menu you can access a Social Network which works exactly like Twitter, except that you can only read other people's tweets, so it feels quite passive.

The Neon Demon

The quest for salvation brings Milo and Lola through different neon-lit districts of the Underworld. If you got yourself at 2am walking on a street filled with closed shops while looking for a bar that is still open, you will get that sense of loneliness. Once you find an open bar, it's gorgeous (and you get to know lot of people), but again, there isn't much to do. I often explored areas that didn't have anything to show, not even a dialogue between random characters, except for a few tweets notifications.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2674721218

Voice Casting is phenomenal and clearly the major reason for feeling so attached to all characters, along with the fun writing and deep characterization. Janina Gavankar, Khoi Dao, Ashley Burch, Dave Fennoy. If these names don't ring any bell to you... well, they should. It's rare to see a cast like this in a small indie game.

Music is a great part of the journey, always following Milo and Lola inside and outside clubs. The mesmerizing soundtrack has been composed by scntfc who previously scored Oxenfree as well, among other titles.

The game runs flawlessly and overall I didn't encounter any issue, except for one time when the camera got stuck in one place and I was forced to quit and reload the save. There are some minor glitches as well, but nothing game breaking.

✅ Pros ❌Cons
• Nice looking visuals • Minor bugs and glitches
• Excellent writing and voice acting • Disappointing ending(s) with only one way of interpretation
• Dialogue options linked to drinks are cool... • ...but don't have other effects on gameplay
• Great soundtrack • The game is only available in English

Verdict: 7.8/10

Afterparty is a charming dark comedy with superb voice acting and a wonderful imaginary. It plays a lot with the sense of freedom, but except for a few moments where you will be asked to do A or B, it's quite linear and after nearly 10 hours I don't feel like playing it again to discover the other routes. The Epic Store deal clearly put a shadow on this game during its full year of exclusivity, but you don't want to miss it if you enjoyed Oxenfree. Just don't expect the same tone and atmosphere.

A little more light-hearted compared to Oxenfree but still an excellent story with great characters on it's own merit. If you're into story driven games, Night School has you covered. Can't wait to see what's coming up from them next
spoilers:
The way this game handles it's endings is really great, there is no overall good or bad ending, which fits really well with the themes of the story. I connected with the "Rehab Satan" ending the most.

Prior to playing this game, I tried Oxenfree and loved it. Expected so much from this game but it was a let down. The conversations between characters were limited and repetitive. I had the NPC repeat to me the same sentence 10 times when I interacted with her. Limited movements and choices of dialogue without much consequences. A game that encourages you to drink before conversing with others which is horrible. Sometimes you'd have to wait in one corner for the NPC to finish talking before you can walk around? The storyline was boring too. Zero character development and no risk at stake compared to oxenfree. It feels undeveloped. Would not recommend this game no matter how pretty it looks :(

Major time killer and funny as...well...hell this game has a lot more commentary than Oxenfree which can be a bit long and you can zone out but it's funny and fun. It took a little while to understand how to play the mini games but you get enough chances to figure it out.

I bought this because Oxefree was absolutely amazing. I still recommend it to people and think about it from time to time. So, because of that, I bought his. I'm really not impressed. Comedy is kind of boring and predictable. I just don't think it's fun. You might have a different opinion on it, but nothing I've done in the game so far is memorable, and I just don't think it's good.

Save your souls, outdrink the Devil himself, it really looks like unusual, cool and crazy game subject which will be interesting to play. Well, really it's more like reading/listening a huge 1000 pages novel and gaming is more like turning that pages until the end. To be honest I didn't listen 90% of all that neverending lines and talks and couldn't wait that the characters stop talking. I'll finish it because I bought it but do yourself a favor and just skip this game (unless you want play talking novel).

A short story game that has huge depth and a reasonable amount of things to explore. The ending gave me a lot to think about. Much like Oxenfree, this is a game to play more than once; not just for the different endings, but also for the quality of the storyline and it's characters.

I feel like this game gets a lot of criticism for following up Oxenfree but I really enjoyed this game. It was a bit glitchy at times but not unplayably so and it was a good story with fun characters. It's a story about outdrinking satan so don't expect it to have as many layers as Oxenfree but pick it up if you want a chill stroll around hell with lots of dialogue.

Initially, I thought this game could have been made for me. It's very adult (in a childish kind of way) and no doubt will offend lots of people. The concept is freaking awesome, the art is eye candy, the writing and voice acting are stellar.
I WOULD LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN TO RECOMMEND THIS.. it pains me that I can't.
Unfortunately, unless you're the sort of person that can dig around in a game's guts to fix problematic code, the chances are that you're going to run into a bug that will break your game. Can you restart? Sure. Will it do the same thing on the next attempt?.. Maybe.. Maybe you'll get a new bug.

Look at the discussions page to see how many people have run into issues, and if you buy this, only do so with the knowledge that there's a good chance you won't be able to finish your game.

Afterparty is a simple yet amazing game just like Oxenfree. The twist on hell and Lucifer kept me hooked till the end. The world-building is amazing, dialogues are funny and witty. The narrative is good too. I really loved this game and can't wait to play Oxenfree 2. 8/10

OMG, this is one of the most fun games I've ever played! It may not be as interactive as action games or other genres, but it's DEFINITELY WORTH YOUR MONEY AND TIME! It's funny, it's entertaining, it's almost like a TV series but mixed with gameplay! The story is great, voice acting is sharp, dialogues are magnificent, the art style is basically a giant NEON billboard that reads:"DANCE NIGHTS IN HELL!". At the time of this review, I've only finished the game once, but there are so many options that I haven't tried yet! Can't wait to play it again!

Thumbs DOWN (2 out of 5) and NOT recommended. AFTERPARTY by NIGHT SCHOOL STUDIO is probably not worth your time or money. GOOD: Writing, dialogue. Visuals, artwork. Audio, voice acting, music. BAD: Seemingly unfinished. Barren environment, interesting and large enough, but extremely lacking in anything interactable (dead); Not much to do outside of dialogue (just handful of mini party games). Very short total game time (under ten hours). Support has disappeared, while bugs remain (see discussions).

It's a fun story, but it holds your hand the whole time. While it's not necessarily linear, every time there's a choice you are specifically asked which you want to follow. Graphics are good, the drink/convo mechanism was fun, but the storyline/puzzle maps were just... obvious.

🚪 Introduction

Lola and Milo, two fresh college-grads who are yet to start their life, find themselves in Hell with amnesia roaming their memories. What did they do to deserve this ticket for eternal damnation? They have no idea as they try to accept this new horrifying reality. Here is food for thought, what did they do to deserve something else? People who don't have enough good deeds in their balance go straight to Hell, even if they didn't commit horrendous crimes; that's according to the beliefs shared within the Afterparty universe. Ironically, Afterparty doesn't have enough balance to make me recommend it.

🎮 Single-player

💠 Beating the Devil in His Own Game

Later on, they learn that in order to escape Hell, they must beat Satan in a drinking contest. That sums up the plot, and here is where it fails. So why did it work fine with Oxenfree—Night School Studio's previous game—and didn't work in Afterparty, although they share nearly the same mechanics? The answer is simple: the suspense is missing. Oxenfree did a fine job in interconnecting both the character-driven and story-driven elements of the plot, weaving a thrilling experience filled with mystery that enthralls the interest, making the player engaged with the story and always eager to strive for more. On the other hand, it won't take much effort to uncover the entire plot within the first hour of gameplay in Afterparty, leaving a boring story with some comedic drama to charge up the entertainment.

💠 Getting Loaded

The adventure is simple: interact with NPCs, choose the desired dialogue option, play some minigames, and enjoy the show. Of course, the speech-bubble dialogue plays the heaviest emphasis on the overall gameplay with a new formula to the mix: alcohol intoxication. Booze in Hell has more to it than to inebriate. Each Hellcohol has a mystical toll on its drinkers, as it unshackles them from their previous concerns of societal appropriateness. Such effects are not limited to enhancing confidence, double-talk, flirting, intimidation, etc. Consuming these beverages while talking with someone unlocks new dialogue slots, adding more room for exploring different scenarios within conversations but doesn't have any solid consequence in the flow of the events.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2729396029
💠 Subjective, Offensive Comedy

No objection to the overall quality of the voice performances; it's very professionally delivered. As for the writing, it's subjective. To put it straight: sometimes, the humor-themed dialogue goes very well with the events at hand, and other times, it becomes either awkweird or boring. It depends on your taste in comedy. Everything is a joke; nothing to worry about; everything is fine! It doesn't take itself seriously, and the game knows it. For the record, it isn't for children, sensitive, or religious people, as there is no limit for the humor here. The final result of the script: I didn't care much about any moving thing in the game. Also, I am not a fan of the game's mechanic of randomly switching between Lola and Milo while traveling or in the middle of a conversation.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2733403948
💠 Nothing Matters

No matter what you do. No matter what you choose. You'll always wear the dunce cap, all thanks to Sister Mary Wormhorn, an anthropomorphic form of psychological torture in Hell who will mostly judge your choices, making them all look stupid no matter your decisions. The more I play, the more it becomes linear that I stopped caring about any choice I make. The game is point A to point C. You can't deviate off the direction to explore B or go back to A. The exploration is tied only to conversations, and after all, it doesn't matter much in the end. It's more like a fixed-path dialogue-interactive animation movie. The game has three endings that entirely depend on the very last portion of gameplay. All the choices you've made throughout your playthrough till that point are pointless.

🛠️ Technical

💠 Here Comes the Charm

A fancy introduction themed by neon-colored fluorescent lights accompanied with a superb piece of music! These people don't mess around in terms of grabbing one's attention. The degree of details fits the art style perfectly: from the drinks art design to whole surroundings. Body language plays a remarkable role in covering up the lack of detail regarding facial expressions due to the far camera's point of view. As for environmental sound design, I find it quite generic and can get boring over time. The soundtrack is fine, with "Schoolyard Strangler" being the finest. The latest game build supports full point-and-click controls for mouse-only gameplay. I did encounter a total of 3 annoying bugs that required me to exit and start from the last checkpoint.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2730602423

⚖️ Verdict

I did my best to like Afterparty, but eventually, I failed. I consider it a wasted opportunity for a solid concept and excellent art direction. The shallow depth of the story, the futile choices, and the linear level design; all don't befit what the game intends to be, hence wrecking the entire experience. In addition, its humor didn't suit my taste, but at the end of the day, comedy is subjective. Worthy of mention: there is a twist in the story, but it didn't work for me, as I didn't care much about the characters in the first place. In brief, this game will work for you if you're interested in its characters, and its comedy matches your taste.

This game was such a disappointment for me. I really anticipated the game, its beautiful visuals, cool music and fun theme really grabbed my interest. Sadly, those are the only aspects I can praise. Gameplay of the game is exhausting, repetitive and boring. I really wanted to play till the end to uncover everything story has to offer, but after almost 6 hours of playing I gave up. Story progression was so slow that it got reduced to walking from one place to another, encountering repetitive minigames from time to time and all that time listening to pretty pointless dialogues. Even choosing dialogue options felt kind of unsignificant.

Even though I didn't like Oxenfree I decided to play Afterparty as it looked like a game with interesting character, story and mechanics.
What I got was an uninteresting, predictable story, with unfunny jokes and useless extra minigames that are just an obstacle to the narration. I didn't even like the mechanics connected to drinking, and I love Disco Elysium!

I don't think it's worth to spend the money on this game, given the amount of graphical adventure games that are out there and are much more entertaining.

An insufferable marathon of jokes made at your expense. Includes all of the flaws of Oxenfree without any of the narrative structure, purpose, charm, or compelling story. No matter what you do - no matter the ending you get - there is nothing to walk away from. I never cared about any of the other characters besides for Milo and Lola and even when I spent the entire game carefully choosing options to keep them together the game forced them to fight at various points. The mini-games are short, un-repeatable, amount to nothing, and yet determine the outcome of the many hours you put into the other characters. I wish I spent 9 hours doing fractions instead.

Of the 6hrs that i have played, i would say that it is a beautiful looking game with simplistic mechanisms and a memorable story. People are comparing it with oxenfree game ( the same studio that built it ) and are saying how this game is not upto mark with that game being from the same studio. Since i haven't played oxenfree , i cannot comment on that comparison. But i will say i liked the game & would recommend it to anyone ( keeping Indie studios expectations in mind ). A nice getaway from the usual AAA games and worth the price it is selling.

I think it’s a brilliant idea with cool aesthetics and great voice-acting. Has a different sense of humour. Might not be for everyone but made the Queen of Hell me giggle. You can play this as a drinking game, rather than just a video game, with Milo and Lola as your drinking buddies like I did but neither Hell nor I are responsible for what happens next when a mere mortal like you can't hold their liquor.

You should know the dialogues were lazy. Choices led to weird outcomes, so your decisions doesn’t make much difference. Could have used more mini-games/side quests.

I can assure you, we have a lot more activities than Beerpong to enjoy ourselves in Hell. Lucy comes up with all the best ideas!

Again, I’d rather give this one a 🤙Neutral…

Like Oxenfree, this is a fun choose-your-own-adventure style game. The concept is interesting, the script is great, and the voice acting is top notch. Definite replay value to go back and play again with different choices and outcomes. Not for players who want super active gameplay -- this is about the story and your choices, not much else.

Babaoube

If you could skip the dialogue this game would be all of 15 minutes long, and the meagre amount of gameplay is pretty simplistic (twiddle the joystick a bit and/or press button).

Even if you like interactive story type games the dialogue is nowhere near as funny or poignant as the developers seem to think it is, and there is so damn much of it. There are multiple instances where you will want to progress to the next scene and someone will just keep yakking, preventing you from interacting with the exit.

This game has almost nothing to recommend it (the art style and voice acting is fine I guess), if you value your time even remotely do not play this game.

It's ... okay? The writing is a bit long-winded, and the actual gameplay is REALLY minimal. Felt less like an adventure and almost more like a visual novel (which is fine, if you're into that sort of thing). It's certainly no Oxenfree.

Okay boring at first but gave it a chance and actually finished it. Now I'm playing a second time because just like Oxenfree, I wanted to see what other decisions I could've make to bear different results. Despite being in Hell and trying to outdrink Satan, it has a good moral story about friendship. Milo and Lola were strangers to me at first, but as time went on pieces of their lives were unveiled, and I realise how these two are inseparable but also sometimes to their detriment. I came to understand and love their friendship by the end of the game. Love the drinking mechanic, different drinks, different dialogue effects, that's genius. Also I can't stop admiring the visuals, the colours, the designs they're just too good, night school studio never disappoints :')

I was excited to see another game from these devs, but boy was it underwhelming.. It's as if a pick-me! girl were a game. Super try-hard, qUirky, im-so-relatable with a huge serving of insufferable dialogue on top. It's no Oxenfree, so save your money (I wish I had). Quickly got tired of the 'banter' aka grossly exaggerated conversations. I found myself playing it purely because I spent actual money on it. I tried so hard to like it, but the whole game just feels like an never-ending loop of running errands / focusing waaay too much time on annoying side quests instead of uncovering and enjoying an interesting plot / objective / 'main' quest. The mini-games were mediocre. For a second I thought I had bought a random 'Cheap Party Games' bundle. Needless to say, I would not recommend it. I wish I could get my time / money back.

I really like this game and I've replayed it like three times now I think. You can get different endings which is a game feature I've always loved because it makes me much more replayable. It's such a good game and i'd recommend it to anyone that likes the idea of drinking in hell with your best friend!

I love Oxenfree and had high expectations for Afterparty. It looks great, but that's where it ends. Everything about it feels so hollow. The worlds are empty and although the characters talk much, they don't say a lot. I truly wanted to like this game, but on my second playthrough I'm still not feeling it.

Simple Click & Pointer game with some mini games and some choices. If you played Oxenfree and enjoyed this, Afterparty is another one that is worth playing.

I actually really liked the way they portrayed Hell - a pretty cool place to vibe and I love the snarkiness that comes with the demons and Satan. Who knew Satan was so cool? Had a couple of laughs. I also enjoyed the friendship between Milo and Lola, both of them working to overcome their inner demons through existential crisis and teenage banter.

It's another game for a chill gameplay, would recommend.

P.S. I love how Satan gives you unlimited goes at beating him, but I gave up in the end :P

I just finished the game and I had fun so I recommend it, but I think it's not for everyone. The atmosphere is great, the characters are funny and relatable, the situations are entertaining, the minigames for drinking and partying are fun and the lenght is ok for the price (7 hours for me). But if you aren't into visual novels style stories and you dislike walking a lot while characters talk and vent to you, it's not for you. It lacks a bit of gameplay in those moments but compensates with its good sides. Maybe with a bigger budget they could improve these segments, like in a sequel. I'd play it!

If Oxenfree is a 10, then this is like a 4...at best.

There are some fun conversations and the different effects of alcohol are interesting, but choices don't really have much of an impact, the relationships between the characters don't really seem to change as much as they did in Oxenfree, and the game just loves to waste your time.

Your constantly using elevators in which you wait like 10 seconds, ordering a drink clocks in at 30+ seconds of downtime (like seriously, who thought this long-ass animation was a good idea) and at the beginning you'll often still run all the way to the egde of the islands, thinking there might be some interesting interaction or a possibility to open up another path, but really it's usually just barren and you wasted your time going there.

Overall I thought this was, unfortunately, rather disappointing.

I really wanted to love this game. The visuals are great, and I like the 2 main characters, but the pacing was really off, so much dialog to say so little. I tried to make the game move along as fast as I could as I was honestly bored as I wondered around back and forth. I never even found out why they went to hell? Sigh, at least I got it on sale.

Doesn't give the awe that Oxenfree did.
More comedy focused than Oxenfree
Less good than Oxenfree

But drinks are so pretty!
Good twist with the story.
Characters are lovable.

Even though I enjoyed Oxenfree a lot, I was hesitant to pick up this game due to the mixed reviews. But after finally picking it up on sale, I ended up liking it quite a bit!

Your mileage will vary, depending on what you liked about Oxenfree. It doesn't have the same intrigue as that game, but if you were in it more for the dialogue/characters (and are happy to mostly be walking around and listening/selecting dialogue, like I am), you should find something to like in this game too. The voice acting is fantastic in this (Erin Yvette can do no wrong, Wormhorn was definitely my favorite part), and the dialogue is pretty well-written as well, head and shoulders above 90% of games out there.

Cute. Basically, think Oxenfree but with all the eerie surrealism replaced with dark humor. Maybe not quite as interesting as Oxenfree, and definitely a bit more cynical than I usually like my games, but I had fun with it nevertheless. Happy to see this studio doing more.

Old Man McGucket
Old Man McGucket

A fantastically witty game full of self-aware references, commentary, and characters. Reminiscent of point and click adventure game style with Tell-Tale's game play (dialogue options and story choices with no inventory puzzles).

The game play is a little underwhelming, but the characters and plot kept me interested.
Happy to support Night School Studio.

Also the art style is amazing.

Keep up the good work Night School!! ^^

I really want to like this game and I've come back to it a few times to try and progress through it but it's just so buggy! I'm completely locked out of one area of the game and I've tried everything. Seems like it's a common bug and doesn't look like it's been patched just yet. I really hope it gets fixed cos I do like the game, it's really cute and charming.

A very funny, lighthearted, but also serious game that is definitely worth your time. Aside from the gameplay it's not anything like Oxenfree but that isn't a bad thing in this case. Honestly the main focus of out drinking and out partying Satan himself is actually kinda optional in the game but I think that only makes this game even cooler in the end.

Creative, silly. Relaxing to play through. Not stressful, not chaotic. Intriguing story that expands as you play.

Uncanny story, good voice acting, a couple bad jokes drowned in a sea of decent to great ones. Worth picking up during sales, there is a lot of listening and paying attention because the conversations are quite fast and complex. Apart from an underwhelming ending (at least mine since there are multiple choices !) The game got a couple laughs and smiles out of me and I don't consider myself that easy of a public !

I have tried to play this game 4 times. Each time I have encountered a game breaking bug (different ones, mind you), about 30 minutes to an hour in, resulting in a necessary restart. I have simply lost interest at this point.

Night School is one of the most intriguing independent narrative studios in game development, so I was excited to check this one out. While I wasn't blown away, I would say it's a good time. I'll talk about why I feel it doesn't quite nail it, but I'll also talk about what I appreciated.

First off, there was a lot of love for this world and its characters; it's a shame, then, that doesn't extend to its central protagonists in the same way. Milo and Lola's individual stories are elaborated upon, but the story of their friendship is left ambiguous, and while I attempted to read between the lines, I felt slightly punished for doing so. As Wormhorn says: "This isn't a David Lynch movie. Nothing else is going on."

Mechanically speaking, I think it wasn't especially demanding; walking simulhaters need not apply, not unless they enjoy watching characters meandering back and forth through its stylish but often limited levels. There isn't much in the way of exploration, and that's a shame, because it really has a charming atmosphere and a world that you want to get lost in.

Speaking of lack of choices, Wormhorn is a really funny and engaging character, so when the game essentially makes a case for demons actually being worthy of your compassion before giving you limited options to address Wormhorn, it feels like a conflict; even when you choose what might be compassionate, the characters spin it in an insincere or passive aggressive way, and by the time you reach the end of the game, it feels like you have no agency in compassion for that character whatsoever, despite the option for others.

Finally, I like the minigames well enough, but I feel as though their limited use throughout speaks to an expanded scope that wasn't met by the time release rolled around. You don't get to participate in many of these activities either as tutorial segments or actual challenges, and there aren't really consequences for failing them; I did, however, like that sometimes failure was actually a different kind of success.

Overall I would recommend this one; this studio deserves the support. That being said, this isn't nearly as engaging as Oxenfree was, so temper your expectations and just enjoy it for what it is.

Would I reciommend this game? Yes. Did I finish the game? No.
Overall the concept of the game is interesting as is the dialogue, but for me
the game felt extremely slow and not as interesting.
Environment looks good and music is... fine? It didn't stand out too me.
The characters are like-able, but I just don't felt the story nor the dialogue.
I think some would really enujoy this game, but for me it was just too much... and not funny
BUT I would recommend it, because I feel like this is a good game. Just not for me.

Suprizer

A slow start but good build up and great narrative in general, there are lots of little jokes that made me chuckle. Ending was satisfying. Only bad thing i can tell about this game was walking speeds and unnecessarily long distances you had to walk around.

I would say buy if you enjoy a good story, but dont if you are impatient

As a whole, I think this game is worth giving a shot. The voice actors added some charm and fun to the story.
The biggest problem I ran into were clips and glitches. Characters would phase through themselves, each other, floors, walls and objects. Satan was a big offender, his cape often glitching out and pointing to the ceiling. He also crashed and I missed out on a significant portion of the dialogue while he stood in his base pose and the background music continued. There were also some movement issues toward the end game. At one point I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish the game because it took me 5 minutes to walk past a curve in Satan's house. These glitches are the worst in the end game, so up until then it runs smoothly enough... Maybe get it on sale.

It'sBelial

Powerfully narrative driven, with a cool feeling of choices matter that kinda don't in the end. The wittiness of the dialogs decline when the two main characters interact with each other but you get an overall good balance.
Background sounds fall into a pattern quicky so you won't get distracted by them.
Bonus points: You can pet a dog at some point.
