Great fun game for passing some time. Gameplay is a little repetitive but good for honing your aiming and driving skills if your new to gaming. Would be even better if at had multiplayer.

I can't believe that we got this, then the 2022 saints row reboot... RIP Saints Row, you will be missed.

I'm a bit over halfway through it now so I feel like I've gotten far enough to be able to accurately review it. It's NOT LIKE Saints Row OR Crackdown any more than every FPS is like Call of Duty and every open world sword-and-sandals game with some climbing is like Assassin's Creed, so quit saying that fake news already! First off, just saying Saints Row has a unique comedy style is wrong - teen humor and mean spirited banter between mates is nothing unique. The humor here is a lot less teen and more all-around and the banter is more like mates poking a bit of fun and having a mutual laugh instead of one of them always being the butt of the joke. Also Kingpin (Pierce Washington) isn't the same dude from the Saints Row games, he's a "What If" version, like Marvel does, from a Row that "The Boss" never existed in. That's simply another in the long running tradition of adding a character model from a more popular IP you own to a new game to boost sales (Nintendo's been doing it for 30+ years lmao). Lastly Crackdown isn't the only third person shooter with multi-jumps; even if it was the jumping here is less OP and you have to actually work to scale buildings.

Now that that's out of the way, the best thing about the game is that there are twelve agents (excluding the two DLC characters which I don't think are worth buying because raising both to max level is just kicking a dead horse) and they all play differently. I have my top three, and my bottom three, but the other six are a decent change of pace when I'm looking to take a break from my synergy and just mess around for a bit. The worst thing is that the overworld, although decently spacious when you take into account how vertical everything can be, is really really bland. There's not a ton to do when not in missions, unless you really feel like fighting quick spawning enemies over and over and over and over again while trying to dodge the vehicles that come straight out of nowhere and basically oneshot you.

Although really repetitive it's not any more repetitive than the majority of games, especially shooters (either third or first person). It's not good enough at it's core to really let it slide though so it gets dull after a while. For $5 it's short enough that it isn't a huge deal because you'll almost be done with it anyway, but I wouldn't pay any more than that and I'd only stick to the base game. It's good enough to play once, so I'd give it a soft recommendation, but there are definitely better games to get for the price. 6/10

This is honestly one of the most unfairly treated games in recent memory. This is not a Saints Row game and it was never meant to be, the marketing really didn't help sell that point, but what we have in the end is a very very soulful Crackdown style game with a ton of character and charisma. Watching the making of for this game really drives home how much of a bummer it is that this game didn't get the shot it deserved and ended earlier than it should have. The gameplay is solid, the writing is witty and has that signature Volition style, and the characters are absolutely fantastic and inspired. Unfortunately, with the servers being turned off it is now technically impossible to 100% the game due to an achievement requiring a completion of online only assignments and the final boss is more than tedious and annoying on higher difficulties, having 3 phases which send you back to the very start on phase one if you wipe at any point. Despite these two biggest flaws and a bit of repetition I really wish we could see what this game would have ended up as if it got the chance the developers were hoping for.

This game deserved much better and I really hope eventually we can come back to these new characters in a sequel or even a complete series reboot of some kind because they are absolutely dripping with charisma and super unique from each other. I am aware the new Saints game isn't doing too well and it is a shame, not only for the legacy of the series as a whole but making it even less likely we'll ever get to see any part of this game in any capacity any time soon.

This is a really charming package and I absolutely recommend it, flaws and all

First off, if you think this game will be anything like Saint's Row you're wrong. While it is a spin off, outside of a handful of characters and a few references here and there there's no link back to the Row games at all. I was hoping to see mostly the same absurd storytelling and humor from SR4 and was dissapointed that it lacked it almost entirely. Gameplay never got dry and was entertaining till the end, while a little generic. The game's biggest weakness is that it's a console port that reminds you constantly through the auto aim and wonky aiming that it was built for controller. I was actually fine with this and wanted to use a controller, but the game refuses to play without crashing unless you disable controller support from the steam side entirely. It's nothing spectacular, and surely don't play it thinking you'll get much any aspect of Saints Row from it, but if the screenshots or blurbs interest you you'll surely enjoy it. Performance was fine for me but streaming the game without crashing proved to be doable but problematic if that's your intent. Seemed like some areas were frame locked and others weren't, but it never performed outstanding even in the best areas so it didn't feel too optimized. Sound was nothing spectacular, and had some odd balance issues from time to time especially during dialog that made it hard to follow what was being said. Overall a solid play though, just wish I could've played with a controller.

That's the second time I've finished this game.

Agents of Mayhem is a competent game: It never crashed on me, it plays well, only twice I had to reload checkpoints because of a glitch...it works alright.

But the game itself is...bland. And boring.

Compared to Saints Row, Agents of Mayhem restricts you way too much in the way you want to engage with the world and do objectives. Yes, there are many classes to choose from, but you will quickly get your favourites and then have to grind the rest of the characters to max, if you want to finish everything. The story, as well, is pretty boring and surprisingly shallow. None of the characters are getting developed deeper than surface level and hints about ulterior motives behind Persephone Brimstone's actions are brought up and quickly forgotten. The game goes out of its way to bury interesting story bits under its own shallowness.

It can be fun, if you just want to unwind. But it can also become frustrating because of difficulty spikes regarding certain enemies.
Not very memorable, dated and mediocre - perhaps that's what makes it so effective at what it does.

Wait for a discount and get all the DLCs, especially when you liked Saints Row IV and Gat Out Of Hell.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I actually enjoyed this game...then again I'm not that opposed to repetition like others are as long as the gameplay is entertaining enough. Try it out and make your own decision.

It's OK - If it's cheap, check it out but don't feel like you're missing out on anything by skipping this one. This is NOT Saint's Row so check your expectations if you are hoping for that. This is more like Crackdown but the devs were going to cash in on some kind of competitive shooter and changed their minds. I think the devs did themselves a disservice associating it with Saint's Row in any shape and form.

Yes, it's repetitive but so is Assassin's Creed and I'm OK with that. It's not a cover shooter, more like a horde shooter so it's pretty mindless. The story is not much but the banter is amusing. If you decide to play, there's a bunch of repeatable POIs that you can skip over - strongly recommend just sticking to the main missions and maybe trying one or two of each of the repeated side missions so you know what they are.

I am currently playing this game at the time of this posting. I unfortunately have to recommend getting this game on sale since it may sometimes not let you finish your objective, happened twice to me in the very beginning. I have noticed if your mission objective doesn't update the issue MAY happen. That was almost a deal breaker for me, but I have played popular games with worse problems and It really doesn't take to long to recover if you quit to desktop. I wish it was more polished as well, but despite this I am having a good time.

One of the things I LOVE about this game is the dialogue. If you listen, each character will say something unique to them, heck the enemies acknowledge each individual characters with different voice lines. Another thing? Unique loadouts and powers.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this game because it got a bad rep, but I am glad I gave it a shot.

This game is incredibly repetitive, unpolished and occasionally very buggy. I also don't get why something like this would need to take up over 50 GB of disk space. You should only play this if you're a big fan of the Saints Row franchise, although even then you probably won't like the massive drop in quality.

its ok, tries to be saints row meets overwatch but single player and with missions and a ton of resource for parts to upgrade your upgrades...(I dint understood the upgrade system) I still dont know why you need 3 characters to choose in a squad when your playing by yourself Instead of switching between your already unlocked hero on the fly. Its not bad just very confusing to my tiny brain... if you wanna try it, buy on sale for like 20 dollars or less or wait for the new saints row

2022, been 5 years since launch and the game is still riddled with bugs.

From simple ones to the game stuttering, to ones that make you have to redo a mission to a soft lock, the list is endless. The gameplay loop is repetitive and is overall a disappointment, as this was the follow up game after Saints Row 4.

Buy it on sale, or don't buy it at all as you wouldn't be missing much. Here's to hoping the reboot will be better.

From the very beginning, Agents of Mayhem sets itself up as a "spiritual successor" to the vibes you get from Saturday Morning Cartoons; and it does so, wonderfully. The 2D animated cutscenes, the character sprites, the humour, the action, the gameplay and the story beats: everything feels as advertised, but not all of it sticks.

I went into Agents of Mayhem not knowing that Volition had ceased supporting the game; which greatly influences the lack of a recommendation for it. It's not that games must be everlasting to be recommended, but AoM contains many bugs that halt or reset progress, that disrupt the flow of the action, and flat-out require a game reboot to continue as normal. Add this to the fact that they shut down their online servers, which were required to access another portion of the game and made 100%'ing impossible, from an achievement hunter perspective. These issues are what predominantly drove me to go for a "No", in recommending this game.

Certain design decisions were made to give AoM that Saturday Morning Cartoon vibe, which while charming at first, quickly reminded me why cartoons are different now--AoM's humour, narrative and character development became bland and generic, to a point where it became difficult to justify it as "it is meant to emulate Saturday Morning Cartoons".

The game is not without its strengths, however, even if they're heavily outpaced by the game's flaws. The combat and flow of the game can be addictively fun, with many of its twists and turns in the narrative truly immersing you in that whacky alternate reality of a Cartoon brought to life. The "Hero-Based Open World Shooter" is an interesting formula that to begin with, can make switching heroes mid-combat feel like one of the most innovative design decisions of the last decade or so. The larger-than-life characters are only bolstered by these features, for better and worse, with some of the concepts simply coming across as bland stereotypes that make for very awkward insertions into the story and flow.

Ultimately, when I first started playing Agents of Mayhem, I was pleasantly surprised. The gameplay, the atmosphere, the tone... all of it seemed fresh and exciting; and AoM's poor reception seemed to have come across as too harsh. In 2022 however, merely five years past its inception, the game has been abandoned by the developer, and all that remains is a game littered with bugs, perplexing design decisions and swiftly discouraging flow of gameplay. That once naive astonishment eventually soured into disappointment.

I liked the Saints Row series even with all it's technical issues I had. This game however is the worst game I ever played. First start up: gets stuck in a looping loading screen without telling it crashed. Second start up: got pst that loading screen after changing settings but settings menu got me stuck on Fullscreen. Killed game and start again after changing to windowed mode in display.ini. Wanted to change display back to fullscreen but that setting changed it to window mode for unknown reasons. Changed to window borderless. Suddenly it faded to black and stayed that way for around 60sec. Switched to controller and it continued to show me keyboard layout. Rn I'm too pissed to give it another try and think about refunding it cause, again, worst game I ever tried to play but wish it worked.
Pretty sure tho they got enough money and people to properly program and test games but feels like the more games they make the worse they get at it.

This is by far the worst experience I had with a PC game, this is equally as worse as the 2016 NFS experience on steam. I didn't even get to play the game because of all the crashing, It doesn't function with a controller and not to mention, the settings is another factor to this game breaking apart.

Before you buy this game, i highly suggest you get this on console for a cheaper price AND listen to what the "guides" and "discussions" have to say about this game. I love it on console, but on PC? it's a nightmare.

Why is it that whenever I pick up one of these maligned games on the cheap a few years down the line from release, it always ends up being one of the best experiences I have with video games? The same thing happened to me with ME: Andromeda. To this day, people still talk ill of it and joke about how bad it was, but when I played it, it turned out to be an absolute blast. Just another cautionary tale about listening to the internet hive-mind I suppose.

AoM is one of those games that I bought for cheap on sale, with really no expectations, and fully prepared to refund it if it didn't make an impression on me. Cut forward 2 hours and I can't even put it down, something about this formula just got hooks sunk into me.

As a spiritual successor to Saints Row, I'd personally place this game somewhere between SRIV and Gat out of Hell in terms of scope. Some people like to call it a 'AA' game. It's not AAA big, but certainly it's bigger in scope than an indie title would be, it lands somewhere in between; it's basically Saints Row Lite. It has the same brand of humour, the same colour to its cheeks, the same atmos and general gameplay feel, just a bit less of it all. I find the streamlined approach quite appealing though, even without all the weapon and character customization, there's enough here with upgrades and abilities to keep the gameplay loop feeling solid throughout, it's just a much more simple game overall, something that I wish would get made more often. It's simplicity is what makes it so playable imo, enjoyable and satisfying and hard to pin down what even makes it fun in the first place, a bit like Euro Truck Simulator.

Almost all of the characters are great. Some of the agents are very meh to me, but the non-player characters are all likeable and endearing. Well, except Mixer. As for the playable agents, some are certainly dull, and wholly generic. Face of the game Hollywood is just a generic buff white guy with slick brown hair who talks like Zapp Brannigan all the time, snore. Oni is another let down, being possibly the most archetypal of the lot; super serious Japanese Yakuza man who barely speaks and is dark and broody and kills a lot of people, gasp. Also he wears a full formal suit all the time, because of course he does. Also also, I give a personal shout out of awfulness to Red Card for being a football hooligan, because to me, a Brit who doesn't like football, nothing is worse than being reminded that 90% of my nation is like that all the time. The rest are solid though, Kinzie was my personal favourite and now holds the award for 'most adorable jumping animations in any video game ever'. All the characters are fun to play though, and as far as I remember, all of them made me laugh at least once with their dialogue, even Hollywood!

I actually love the open world. It's what kept me coming back the most. I'm a bit of a collectable wh*re though, so maybe I got more pleasure than most would scaling skyscrapers and hunting for those red crystals everywhere I went. Even besides the collectables and loot chests though, I just really enjoyed moving about the city. Seoul has been beautifully rendered, with so much colour and vibrance and intricate urban designs, I just found simple pleasure in walking around looking at all the details. The extra activities are, admittedly, slightly forgettable and feel a bit worthless considering they just respawn all over the map, but they serve as good filler for the early parts of a playthrough, fun to stumble upon and enjoy before they get old. I also want to give a shout-out to this game for having some of the most fun driving controls of any open-world game. Once you get a fast agency car and get the drifting down, it's never not satisfying cruising perfectly around every bend with that pumpin' korean radio music.

One thing I do want to say though; f*ck Legion Lairs. Easily the worst part of this game. They're underground bases that are (I think?) procedurally generated semi-dungeon kind of things. They're awful. They are massively over-used, and pop up WAY too frequently. They only have about 6 or 7 rooms types, and each lair is only 4 or 5 rooms long, so they repeat a LOT and it's just a complete drag. If the devs had cut half of all the lairs out of the game, there'd still be too many.

There are a few bugs in AoM, mostly minor ones for me but some that did force restarts. I've seen some people talk about crashing issues, but I never once had a crash or any stuttering / performance issues. I fell out of the map once after some b*stard ramped his car onto mine and squashed me through the road. That led to an infinite load screen and forced me to do a classic task manager exe execution. Other times the UI disappears when using abilities and only re-appears if you restart the game, thankfully not that often though, and that one doesn't break anything it just makes it hard to figure out what you're meant to be doing. It's nice for screenshots though. Everything else is minor, and more often lends itself to comedy than frustration, like how half of the residents of Seoul hold their phones backwards, tapping away at the rear cover.

I will say this about AoM; it's an overtly depressing experience. No, not because it's depressing to play, but because playing it now, in 2022, you're experiencing a thoroughly dead game, and enjoying it just makes it all the more upsetting to know there will never be any more of it. Afaik, the IP was fully retired in 2019, and last year the servers for the online contracts mode were taken offline (this, by the way, also prevents 100% completion of the game and steam achievements). There are no more updates, no more content patches, and Agents of Mayhem will never glimpse the light of day again. Every time I returned to the Ark and heard the little loading screen liner saying the title, I felt the sad. There was definitely some measure of artistic pride in this game, and to me it's upsetting to see how the hopes of the artists behind this project will never be able to grow because of the difficulties faced in the business side of selling games.

I will consider this game my un-official Saints Row 5. It feels like a Saints Row game, especially with Kinzie, Pierce, Oleg, etc, just taken in a different direction and not made so overwhelmingly large. It's a shame to me that this game did so poorly, but I guess I didn't buy it at launch either, so perhaps it was more to do with peoples indifference rather than distaste. Still, to me this is one of the most purely fun games I can remember playing, and I'd recommend anyone to grab it when it's on sale.

Agents of Mayhem was the definition of a mediocre game. While I do enjoy the idea of a G.I. Joe-esque team fighting a villainous faction the execution is completely lack luster. Volition is no longer the company it once was and it shows. I will have fond memories of Saints Row 1 and 2 and of my first time playing 3 but old Volition is gone and the Embracer group is a cancer upon the games industry. Now knowing that this has inadvertently lead to the Saints Row reboot I literally have no choice but to not recommend this game. Fuck new Volition, don't support this company.

this game is riddled with bugs. weird as audio bugs. frequent soft locks to game crashes.

gameplay: its like playing fortnite on easy mode. difficulty slider only make the enemies bullet sponges and spawn 1 or 2 more but not a challenge at all.
open world is only a place for level select and endless repetitive missions that get boring after the first 2 times. no challenge here at all.

story: worst writing i have ever seen. no character development. or rather split between 15 so it is enough for everyone to have 1 sentence. and then its that woke shit everyone hates.

effort went into everyone having their own voicelines. but then on open world events they each just have 1.

weird ass auto aim/or rather camera movement when walking and sometimes auto traking even with 0 aim assist.

I played the saints row 2-3-4 and I liked them. I thought this game would be like them. Actually in gameplay it looks like similar to saints row but actually it has big differences in gameplay. It's still fun but not really like saints rows. Dialogues are ok but not so good. Story is ok for my expectations. I liked this game but I can say that sr4 and sr:goof were more enjoyable for me.

Saints Row meets Crackdown sounds like a pretty great formula in theory, but it's just not. I literally finished the tutorial and already don't care about the game in the slightest. I wanted to give it a fair shot, but this really does seem as lousy as everyone accused it of being. The fact that people are saying the new Saints Row is even worse really makes me worry about the future of Deep Silver and Volition. 2/10

Very repetitive in nature. The city feels dead compared to the splendid cities in Saint's row. The humor isn't very good. It tries to compensate by giving a bunch of playable characters with different abilities which is good but that's irrelavant when all missions are exactly the same.

This is an entirely solid game with flashes of greatness mixed with a few mediocre and/or less-than-perfectly-executed elements. It feels very much like the kind of experimental, quirky game that gets followed up by an amazing sequel that corrects all the problems with the first game while making everything that was good even better. Unfortunately, the mysteriously (to me) mixed reception for this game makes a sequel seem unlikely.

To quickly grasp the aesthetic/character of this game, imagine that the old G.I. Joe cartoon is a kid, and that kid has grown up into a foul-mouthed, wise-ass teenager, and that teenager is this game. You have animated cut scenes with weapons and costumes and action sequences that could have been lifted right out of an old 80s cartoon... except that there's blood, and occasional f-bombs, and battles with lethal weapons that actually result in people dying (😲 imagine that!). Whenever you return to base you get a parody of the G.I. Joe return-from-commercial-break public service segments, with a character – hero or villain – providing a snippet of humorously terrible/cynical/bizarre advice before the slogan "MAYHEM KNOWS" slides across the screen (and in 36 hours of play I've only seen them repeat once, so there's a sizable library).

As for the fundamental gameplay, it could maybe sort of be summarized as kind of like a Borderlands-lite with less loot and switchable characters instead of switchable weapons. If that makes any sense. Probably doesn't. But it's fun and it works for the most part.

To begin acknowledging the negatives, this game's open world is definitely on the small size. There is a limited variety of side activities, which becomes even more limited (and a lot less fun) if you only look at non-combat activities. I think there's only 3: running on foot through a bunch of checkpoints, driving a pre-selected vehicle through a bunch of checkpoints, or stealing some randomly-selected boring car off the street and taking it to a specified location while LEGION inexplicably tries to stop you (seriously, why does an international paramilitary criminal organization care about me stealing a tiny economy car that looks like it spawned from the Popemobile banging a go-kart?). In the end, story missions (both main and side) are the only thing you'll likely do for fun in this game, and anything else is just an occasional dull-but-not-unbearable means to an end (XP, money, loot, etc.). But there are enough of said story missions for me to say that I highly enjoyed my experience with the game overall.

In conclusion, this review will end now, because it's not an essay and don't have to do no fancy conclusion if I don't want to.

I received a refund at the game release, but feeling bad about being quick to judge it, I gave it another chance during a steam sale.

This was not an enjoyable for me. I enjoyed Volition's other franchises, Red Faction and Saints Row; but this didn't feel like a whole game to me. I appreciate when studios want to expand and reach out to new styles of game play and storytelling; but this just wasn't what I was expecting. Here's to hoping future titles come back to the quality gameplay and storytelling that I've loved experiencing from them, over these past 15 years.

This game is awesome. It's 100% depend on what you like. I liked everything in this game. It's an open world game, but we can't interact with NPCs but this game has not designed to work with NPCs. We got nothing to do with them. And also outside side stuff of the world. The story is a short one. It's all about find things, improve agent's super powers, upgrade agent's skills and fight. Each agent has their own unique skills and style. Who is the best? There is none! You need everyone for each different type of missions. It's all depends on how you like to play and the way you play. Personally I like Jhonny Gat. Just because he's one of my favorite characters in Saints Row and he has a very powerful shotgun. And I played Level 15. It was really hard and awesome at the same time! This was a very enjoyable experience. Just buy it and enjoy.

Until this game was on sale so I bought it
''I can tell you it's a lot of fun''

This makes me feel guilty for judging the game based on the reviews
( I bought all the DLC instead of apologies ♥ )

Agents of Mayhem is an alright game. Lots of people seem to be down on it, and I can see why, but I still mostly enjoyed it.
The biggest positive is the comedy, which is much tighter than Saints Row, relying less on pop culture references and toilet humour, and more on clever dialogue and absurd non-sequiturs. That being said, some of the parodies fall flat. One of the minor antagonist questlines is an extensive jab at Justin Bieber of all people, a dated and cheap target even back when this game came out. Nonetheless, most of the other jokes are witty and well-written, and major story missions often have rather charming cartoons that remind me of Archer, which so happens to be one of my all-time favourite shows.
On the other hand, gameplay is a mixed bag. While the unlockable protagonists and their abilities are all fun to use in some way, the game does not make use of them to their maximum potential. The player is encouraged to grind, unlocking more gadgets and skill points, and the map is therefor dotted with side content. However, most of these are standard fare, consisting of checkpoint races and repetitive dungeons, where the irreverent and fast-paced comedy of the story comes to a screeching halt; no amount of funny one-liners being announced over the PA system makes running through secret labs looking for crafting materials and weapon skins any less tedious.
Combat also suffers from this tedium, with way too many enemy types inflicting AOE damage (melee troops, tanks, and even snipers, which is unusual and especially annoying). These stun your characters, making them unable to use their special abilities--the only thing that normally makes the combat in Agents tolerable. The final act of the main campaign also relies heavily on platforming challenges, even though movement is often awkward.

Overall, Agents of Mayhem is very flawed on the gameplay side, but still has enough heart to make it an enjoyable experience, so long as you are the forgiving type, that is able to overlook the repetitive grind in exchange for a game with a unique identity that constantly roasts and parodies itself.

Oh, and on a final note... I've fallen in romantic love with Scheherazade. She's an assassin that talks to her swords as if they were children, constantly speaks in rhyme, and her sprint animation is just her Naruto-running...

FINAL SCORE: 6/10

Gun play just doesnt feel good. Theres only about 5 open world activities, and they involve the same hacking mini game, or just shooting things. There was no depth in how you could handle anything.

The story is bland. About a quarter the amount of custimization as SR3 or 4.

At most, look at gameplay videos. Cause clearly some people liked it enough to keep it at a mixed review

What a shit game. It's boring and feels empty. story and characters doesn't get resolution of their arc. Legion lair is shit and it's used to do and explain everything. Full of sjw to a point of absurd. Even characters from saint row don't help, and only show how much developer has fall.

If you wonder about saints row reboot, play this demo to see what's to expected.

Saints row is a well loved franchise this being a kind of spin off of it is very sad.

This game does about everything thing it can wrong after the first few entry missions i already had like 20 different missions instantly bombard me baffled at what to do i go roaming the world, none of the world events seem to have any impact on the game and just seem to constantly spawn to give you tiny rewards, and the story missions were bland and boring with nothing interesting ever happening even when above the recommended difficulty the game wasn't a challenge.

Characters and skills just do not work and it feels like a very odd system for a single player game with all the mechanics of the game focused around grinding activities over and over again for resources and skins..... the cosmetics feel forced into this game for no reason other than the fact there are no meaningful rewards to acquire in the game i was flooded with more upgrade cores than there are characters in the game to use them on and unlocking the different perks for each character took a few minutes.

Whenever I play a mediocre 3rd person action game, I always ask myself, "is Agents of Mayhem better than this?" I always answer, "Yes, it is. I should be playing that instead." So it's better than Crackdown 3, Marvel's Avengers, Anthem, etc. You can unlock cosmetics by playing missions! Wow!

The characters that aren't the ones from the Saints Row series are pretty meh. Thankfully, nobody would ever be stupid enough to try to make another Saints Row game without them.

It's a hero-shooter dungeon-crawler where you fight mini-bosses at the end. That's the meat of this game. It gets tame early in, but you might find some enjoyment from the difficulty aspect. Now, the bad; The side-quests are just filler origin stories, the RPG system has insignificant upgrades with nothing good to grind for, and while the city is a marvel, the activities are monotonous. Overall, I'd call it underwhelming.

Could've been better if it had Multiplayer to make it truly worth it.

I'm a big Saints Row fan, but back when this game came out, there was so much negative press, and not so great word of mouth that I decided to skip it. Fast forward to now and I picked it up during Steams black Friday sale. Boy am I glad I did. I had so much fun playing this, and after many, many hours with the game, beating it, and getting all characters to lvl 20+, got all shards, did all character missions I can say this game is a good time! The game oozes that Volition/ Saints Row world building. Characters are colorful, likable, and unique. You'll play with all of them! The missions and story line are quirky with that Saturday morning cartoon flare to it, and that's exactly what they were going for. The game is a single player experience and you can bump up the difficulty level to get that extra challenge you are craving. I found that once I had maxed out all my characters I was happy playing on lvl 13 difficulty (lvl 15 is max). I think if you are a saints row fan you will undoubtedly appreciate Agents of Mayhem, pick it up if its on sale.

Don't look at it as of saints row game, more like a overwatch with open world... And you're gonna need REALLY beefy PC to run it at max settings even today. Oh and don't change shadows too often beacause it's gonna eat all your gpu vram which is hilarious in itself.

I wanted to play this game for a long time, now. And having completed the story and seen all the charm & characters that it has to offer, I gotta say. It's "okay" as far as a standalone game. According to Volition it's "not a Saints Row game", but it came out back in the aftermath of saints row 4. Going from American street gangs to celebrities with strippers, to straight-up movie rip-offs. For this game, Volition's marketing of the purple fleur de lis, and even having Saints Row characters in their trailers, forced volition to say it outright because folks couldn't tell what "Saints Row" even was anymore.

Agents of Mayhem is really a greatest spin off game to play of the Saints Row franchise after the events of Gat Out Of Hell. The game have a lot of plentiful hidden references from the Saints Row game like Loa Dust from Saints Row 2. A villain named Morning Star which is a reference to Saints Row The Third's Morning Star organization. And Stillwater from Saints Row and Saints Row 2 during the cut scene of Kingpin. The game play is nothing like Saints Row but the game play is great each character have not just their own primary weapon but they even have abilities and Mayhem abilities Because filling up the Mayhem meter never felt so good. It even has Gremlin gadgets is like a second alternative to grenades. My favorite gremlin Gadgtet is Dove from Above where doves crash and explode to enemies and inflict panic which means they would run away. The driving really improved very well. You can just drift your vehicle with a breeze. Sadly in driving I can't shoot my gun but even without shooting while in vehicle the shock wave button still makes it work. But the best reason that you really need to play that game are the playable characters. Just like Saints Row, Agents of Mayhem has one of the most memorable characters it has more than 12 playable agents to choose from. From Hollywood to Scheherazade (agents in unlocking order) to the DLC returning Saints Row characters like Gat and Safeword (Kinzie) and one original mayhem character Lazarus. Each have their own personality and flaws which makes it more very entertaining to enjoy their dialogues. Although the game have bugs which is the sound issue which feels like is something is actually static every time I enter a secret legion base and there not so good character changes like Aisha for example but on the bright side I can battle Aisha while playing as Gat just to give more Saints Row vibes

I heard the new reboot of Saints Row but hopefully. Just hopefully that the reboot may have a connections to this game

I love the Saints Row franchise to which this game was meant to be a spiritual successor, so it's rather saddening that I can't suggest Agents of Mayhem. The fundamentals of the gameplay are fine, with a variety of abilities and respectable movement and shooting mechanics. However, the writing and world that made the Saints Row games so deeply engaging are simply absent here. The jokes fall flat, the character interactions are dry and predictable, and the futuristic Seoul setting is completely devoid of character. There is supposedly a new Saints Row reboot game in the works, and I hope it is able to achieve what Agents of Mayhem could not.

Please fix the contracted thriller achievement Deepsilver/Volition. Make it possible to do these contracts in a solo game, just because you shut down the servers i can't 100% the achievements. Such a waste of a fine game! Gameplay can get a bit repetitive but its definitely a chaoticly fun game. Buy it if you're into grinding character levels and switching up playstyles a lot.

It's a fun game. That's what it comes down to. Ignore all the other Saint's Row bs. There's a lot of different characters (agents) you can pick from and unlock as you go through, each offering a different playstyle. The game doesn't take itself seriously and there's plenty of unlocks and customization to be had. Worth the $30 if you are just looking to mess around and kill baddies in fun, interesting ways.

This game is way better than people say. I played much further on console and bough it again on Steam because I enjoyed it that much. It's definitely not perfect, but their approach to the game loop and progression system is refreshingly unique and I wish there were more games exploring this type of hero shooter. In summary, it's a great concept that deserves more attention, but also has a ton of unrealized potential that sadly will be left to the imagination. Highly recommend if you like hero shooters, big open city maps, need for speed, and not taking things too seriously.

SAINTS ROW is better than this, do they had personel change or something???
for me what makes it boring was the audio SFX, the game was rather muted for such an action game.

music - generic and boring as heck, i can't even hear it properly, feels muted even in 100%
general sound effect - walking, shooting, npc etc they all have such muted voice. it doesnt even feels they are alive at all. i can barely hear them do stuff, like walking, talking etc. the only one "better" was the voice acting, it's louder than other sounds and just muted all other sound.

graphic was fine i guess, but sunset overdrive was way much better and that game was older (and had less graphical needs). it even had the best music, game sfx, they're all top notch, in all over the top action game. too bad there's no sequel... yet

gunplay, is kinda normal i think. it's just that why is a rifle feels soo useless in this game, everything is just bad, even less than the dual handgun, wtf

tldr, overal the game was ok-is, but the sounds department is horribly BAD. and i'm not talking as an audiophil or something

let's hope their new saints row are not as bad as this game (looks woke to me and woke are the sign of disasters)

I enjoy the Saints Row games, but a Saints Row game this is not.
Also, this is incredibly middle-of-the-road as far as games go.

+Fun atmosphere, characters, and writing. They nail that Saturday morning vibe they're going for.
+Combat is solid, but takes getting used to. (Spam space, switch characters often, don't stop moving.)

+/-Small open world map.

-Navigating at a long distance is annoying, especially before you unlock the player cars. Think Gat Outta Hell's Comet is every NPC's car, then someone cut all the plug wires. Then your characters aren't really fast/ can't really navigate particularly fast for more than one city block. It's like they've severely watered down Saints Row 4 style movement. Frankly, I think they should have ramped up player character mobility (within the X/Y axis).

No proper Controller support, unsing Steam input just straight up crashes the game after the main menu. PS5 controller just glitches the game to an unplayable state without Steam input.
So I guess you can only play this if you own a 360 controller. Very cool.
Also tried playing the tutorial with KB&M, but that just feels wrong for this game.

You might think "man, I miss Saints Row, where they accepted that my sandbox character was going to be a psychopath, and worked it into the story."
You might think "I know Agents of Mayhem is crap, but I'll buy it anyway just to remember the better games".
Don't do that. Go play SR2 and SR3 again.
This is a boring single-player hero shooter with repetitive maps, joyless plot, and tiny sandbox map.
It's not even worth it if you just want to see Kinzie in a different outfit.

PS: the Bharati archer who is also a world-class biochemist was kinda cool.

I originally hated this game, I played it more, and I enjoyed it. it's an interesting expansion of the saints row universe, but it's not a saints row game at all.
this game has several issues, can be repetitive, and the style won't be for everyone.
I just suggest you watch some gameplay and reviews, and also get this on sale.

Lubien

Fun game for a while but gets more bland with every hour you put into doing the very same variations of missions until you reach the end. It uses real-life time for some side quest-like operations which take longer than it takes you to beat the game. I'd not recommend this game to anyone who wants to pick this game after playing Saints Row series as it (in my opinion) a lot worse experience.

BlueKunai
BlueKunai

This isn't an outright negative review so much as a middling review, but let's just say I'm leaning more on one than the other. I followed a lot of Agents of Mayhem's initial trailers and dev streams in morbid curiosity as to what this game was actually supposed to be, and despite that I didn't get around to actually buying and playing it until 5 years later.

Positives first; The core gunplay is pretty tight and very satisfying. The boss fights and enemy encounters are among the most well-designed in any of Volition's games. The agents all feel very different and have unique visual designs and gameplay styles. Mission replay is finally back after being absent from Volition's last few games. I appreciate the effort of having every agent in the game having their own unique lines to respond to dialogue through the whole game, even the DLC agents. That's an extent they didn't have to go to, but I appreciate that they did. Now, the negative.

The best way I can describe this game is that it's the embodiment of an identity crisis. It's trying to be a hero shooter, but all that flair feels strangely out of place in a singleplayer game that doesn't even have co-op. It's trying to be Saints Row, but only on a very superficial level with the purple, fleur de lis and four of the playable agents being repurposed Saints Row characters. It's trying to be Crackdown, but only meets the powered up movement and stylized visuals halfway. It's trying to be like a Saturday morning superhero cartoon, but the presentation is wildly inconsistent with many of the animated cutscenes showing signs that the budget had run out by the halfway point. It wants to be a sandbox game, but the open world nature doesn't serve the campaign at all with exploration being very bland, most diversions being copy and paste randomly generated events and the driving being some of the weakest Volition has ever done.

The Legion Lairs were initially a highlight being cool in concept and giving you a plethora of loot crates and cool looking environments, but then you realise these are all procedurally generated combinations of maybe 7 rooms that you'll be playing over and over again. The only notable exception is one of the late game missions Enter the Dollhouse which changes things up a bit in an interesting way.

Steve Jaros left Voltion after writing Gat Out of Hell and it really shows with AOMs writing. There were a handful of lines I thought were pretty good, but so much of the comedy in this game made me want to play it on mute. One mission in particular featured back-to-back Uranus jokes near the end and I was burying my face into my controller in embarrassment. Even returning characters like Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington felt so lifeless compared to their previous appearences.

I don't think Volition deserved to take the hit that they did from this game underperforming and underselling, but at the end of the day the combination of bad marketing and the game launching in a barely functional state didn't do this game any favours. I've certainly played worse games for five bucks, but even after all the patches and distancing the PR from my memory, I can't really muster up more than an indifferent shrug.

The gameplay is fun, although it can get a little repetitive. Still, the variety of agents keeps it interesting.

One thing that not enough people are recognising, I think, is the stellar voice work. Every agent has a unique voiceline for each mission, and every enemy has a unique voiceline reponse to every agent. It's pretty clear that a lot of work went into that and it's much appreciated.

Also, the animations for each of the characters are very well-done. It really feels like an interactive version of one of those old fashioned superhero shows with more adult themes.
