Not my type of game in regards to what I seek from a horror game. The areas are super creepy yes, but the horror feels repetitive after a while when it comes down to "get jumpscared and run away" so often. Some people may like it but if you're a Chilla's Art enjoyer due to the psychological aspects of the game, this is not it.
amazing game. would love tomake song if u could email me chills [email protected] send akas voice man i make dubstep and hope to see an email sometime. also youre the bomb
This game is so scary holy b@ll$. The atmosphere it creates, the fact you don't run into anything actually threatening till you progress to a certain point, and OMG the noises the Aka Manto makes are something out of Hell. It's unlike anything I've ever played and YES it's supposed to be extremely difficult. You are constantly terrified of running into Aka Manto (which you will countless times). I've played argueably the scariest games out & this one takes the cake in a way no other does.
Although this is a blatant rip off of Nun Massacre... why fix what isn't broken? N.M. was a great game by Puppet Combo and this is a great game by Chilla's Art. Faithful to the playstyle, but bringing its own folklore to the highlight and feeling like its own game regardless.
8/10. Closer to a 9 than a 7.
Mommy Manto made me make many messes mercilessly.
(i pissed all over the floor)
this game made me sh!t my pants twice.
*Aka Manto a challenging game with scary and unsafe atmosphere. This game is not easy, but I Finished it 5 Times and unlocked all the trophies and i'm proud for my courage(and i pissed on my gaming chair)
---Warning: Go to the bathroom before you play. otherwise, The first time you see him and hear his voice you will sh!t yourself for sure.
I became obsessed with this game. It's very difficult and very long, but it's highly rewarding at the end. Especially defeating the Aka Manto because YOU become the killer and slay it after all the hard work. Unarguably the best horror game I've ever played!
This game will mentally break you if given the chance. THIS is what makes this game so terrifying. There's a song dedicated to Aka Manto, named "Aka Manto" by Eviktionz on SoundCloud. It gives off that feeling of terror, that feeling of dread and agony he brings you. That sense of hopelessness that you won't make it out alive. That he is always there, wandering the halls looking for you. That he knows he will eventually sink his blade into your body and consume your soul like he's done with your other classmates. This is the feeling the song delivers. Give it a chance.
This is the closest thing so far to Nun Massacre still, and this came out a few years ago. I am still trying to beat it, scary stuff.
Very creepy and panic inducing. Gets old after the first several chases though and is surprisingly hard to beat.
fun game by chillas art, it takes some time to beat it but its fun especially with friends:)
i love this game my pants dont tho i know have a pair of brown shorts
More difficult, darker and scarier than Yuki Onna.

tobanga nö :(
japson chillas best game besides convinience store
its ver y scray but its very fun to
Initially very hard but once you memorize the location of everything, its pretty easy and fun, there will be jump-scares, gets pretty scary sometimes , I am surprisingly pleased by this game, had a lot of fun, there are a couple bugs sometimes, like aka manto chasing you forever, and sometimes you will see him moon-walking and not seeing you at all. overall I give the game a 8.5/10.
This guy steals all the toilet paper from the stalls. At least hes nice enough to color it and return it when you need to use it
This game is really good in my opinion. Is it stressful af? yes. Is it a scary game? yes. Should you go buy it and play it yourself? yes.
great game if you're looking for a horror experience that's challenging and scary
This game goes so hard
Similar to Yuki Onna and Nun Massacre
I want to finish it but it's scary
Very helpful for constipation.
Great game, the only thing that could've made it better was a save option, if you die, you start from the beginning which sucks!
It's basically one of the many Slender Man/Amnesia clones just faster and with ps1 graphics. I love the attention to detail; the walls purposefully distort to create a sense of unease in the atmosphere. Personally, I don't care for the permadeath feature. It was created to make the game seem more frightening, but it just annoys me. The game is pretty hard, inventory management is nearly impossible as you can not tell what you will need and there's no way to tell how many times you can get hit before dying. The monster isn't that frightening, they make the atmosphere really quiet and then blast the speakers whenever Aka Manto appears as well as stealing the Juon grunting/moaning noise thing to make it all seem scarier than it really is. Otherwise, it's a lot of fun.
i hope someone makes a sound mod replacing Aka Manto's sound with Thomas the Tank Engine song or whatever
Its a bloody scary game allright
As of writing this, I have not completed Aka Manto. This is definitely not a single playthrough game. So many puzzles and items that it's hard to even fathom the game ever ending. Most of the items don't even have an obvious use. Took me until my third playthrough to figure out what one of the first items you pick up is for. Even then, I have no idea where to take it.
All that in mind, I am still drawn to this game solely based on it's beautifully crafted environments and sounds. It is horrifying in the most delightful way possible, and even after seeing the main antagonist numerous times, my heart still skips a beat every time it chases me. I can really only recommend this game if you can stomach extremely punishing trial and error gameplay, because if you can't this will become a slog really quick.
So far the only horror game to make me want to quit mid play through. Not even Outlast did that! Awesome game!
Man this game is so crap like what the fuck is this AI. What the fuck is this AI? No really, what the fuck is this AI?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Your disappointed parents who drove into the sea to find the Titanic after playing your whack-ass, dollar store, trailer park game.
2/10.
If you wanna sh1t yourself, go for it. Unpredictable from my experience and scary, keeps me on edge. 10/10 would crap myself again.
I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY reccommend this game if you are looking for a good horror game. Took me multiple runs before I finally had the courage to do more than the first 5 minutes of the game. The average time it'll take you to beat this game will probably be somewhere around 1 hour and 15 minutes. However, all this time it wont be rainbows and unicorns. I love scary games, and this one actually felt like a scary game instead of just a horror game with built in jumpscares everytime. The devs killed it on this one!!! Worth every penny spent.
I am more neutral. The price is cheap and is great with the bundle and I love the PS1 style it has but the problem is the killer is way too aggressive and I ended up getting killed because I got stuck in a door when it closed on me automaticly. If you love your hide and seek non-combat horror games then go for it. Also has perma death and because of the classrooms you will be hiding a lot more then trying to outrun and out think the killer.
Not really a fan of this Nun Massacre clone, I get that they were trying to go for something different based on a format that has already been done by someone else (that's more substantial), but the devs of this game seem to be far more concerned on making the game's VSH filters and presentation, rather than fine-tuning the AI and some of the gameplay aspects, to assemble a more consistent experience. But I did like the sound design, the concept of there being different monsters and the map itself. Even though the game is comprised of other assets that aren't it's own. My biggest standing issue is that there are no manual saves or checkpoints in a maze-like exploration horror game and you're expected to finish it in one sitting. I know the game isn't that long, but it's choices like that; that can discourage new players from wanting to get back and start all over again, after leaving in the middle of a game. Not even early survival horrors are that stodgy.
I get that people are starting to get into this phase of where they're reminiscing the nostalgic days of the PSX/VSH filtered era, but this whole lo-fi, walking sim thing is getting to a point where it's starting to become stale, pretentious and obnoxious, the novelty is really starting to wear off on me. The word 'Atmosphere/Atmospheric' has probably become the most overused term in gaming, or even in general, it's at the same level as 'It is what it is' type of word overuse - Whenever I see that word in someone's description of a game/film; I cringe a little inside and my brain just turns off on whatever they're saying and move on. I know that's a very minor thing to get fed up over but you'd be surprised of how much Synonyms can broaden someone's horizon of expression.
Let me know if it's just me rambling and I'm being too harsh on this indie game. It's just that I can't see much of what would merit the game's replayability value, due to the lack of saves/checkpoints.
100% WORTH THE $6.00 AND MORE, could not drop it until I got both endings, super amazing, very fun.
This looked like a really cool retro horror game, and I have loved playing other Chilla's Art games, but unfortunately I couldn't get more than a half an hour in as the game crashed over and over again.
This wouldn't be such an issue if there was a save feature, but I had to restart the game from the beginning every time it crashed. :(
I bought Aka Manto after watching a brief gameplay on YouTube. During it's runtime everything seemed so immersive and scary. I decided that I should buy it on Steam and try to play it myself. I was a little worried if the game would live up to my expectations. But when I finally launched the game, all of my worries were gone. Gameplay and controls were all very smooth and pleasant. And what is most important, the game was helluva scary.
good game, nice style and scary
Thought it would be funny to laugh at aka manto, regretted that decision instantly.
Nerve-wracking game, this is the first run-and-hide puzzle collection horror type game I've actually beaten but it was incredibly satisfying to finish. I even decided to go back after finishing the "easier" ending and do the harder one as well, which I definitely recommend doing. Really crazy atmosphere, the story is based on an urban legend/copy pasta (not sure which), but chilla made it work very well without feeling cheap in any way.
The game can be beaten in less than an hour, probably faster if you hustle, but the main challenge of the game is figuring out the map/finding the items and learning how to set yourself up to win. I spent the first 3 hours finding everything while dying repeatedly (I doubt it will take others as long), and then the actual game-winning runs I did in 52 minutes each. Though the 2nd one said 52:1800:32 so 1800 extra seconds? As far as bugs go, that was the only one I encountered along with very rare moments of "he should have seen me, but I'll take it".
Definitely recommended! Scared the shit out of me while keeping me hooked for 5 hours.
The whole retro graphics, scary abandoned school ambience is very good and the story and good ending is also pretty good, but the game suffers from Aka Manto being overpowered.
Aka Manto knows where you are at all times, whenever you go to another floor or area in the school he immediately teleports near you. I even had times where he would camp the vent exit near the beginning of the game, which I can't stall him out, since if I do the centipede will attack me. He constantly tries to cut you off by teleporting where you are running which sucks because he teleports instantly, since there is no animation or warning of him teleporting through the two portals he can spawn on any room. The hallways don't help either since they are designed to have a very tight space between them that forces you to peak corners and risk getting hit. In my opinion the worst part is that he also does not make a single sound when he is walking around the map (he only makes sounds when he is already chasing you) and the warning on your screen when he is near you only appears when you're very close to him and sometimes the warning won't even appear on your screen. You can only have three items in your inventory even though one of those item slots is always going to be used by your lighter since the game is very dark, which basically forces you to backtrack allot, especially if you want to use a healing item since you don't auto heal. Once you collect a certain amount of items a second Aka Manto appears which is the exact same as the first one, but the second Aka Manto will either wait for you on another floor or just join the floor that you are on with the first one. All of these issues turn the game into a luck based game where either the game is completely against you or the game works in favor for both sides. It also doesn't help that to read the recordings you have to risk getting hit since if you stay in a room for more than ten seconds Aka Manto puts up a portal in that room and obviously teleports to it.
I actually wanted to recommend this game because of how terrifying it is, but the more you play the game and try to beat it, the more it switches from being scary to being very frustrating.
this is one the best horror games I have ever played at first I thought it was just a normal horror game that you could play and was survival and that it would take me around 3 to 4 hours to complete and get all of the
achievements but once I played it I was so scared I could barely get the wires cause the game was so scary and chilling it wasn't until weeks later that I went back to this game cause I remembered that my momma didn't raise no b!tch and that I wouldn't finish a game cause it was too scary I personally love playing horror games and I finish them mostly in about 2 to 3 hours if they are pretty long but this was the first game that I played that genuinely I couldn't finish cause I was to scared if you want to have rough times and and be super mad and just be plain scared while you play a game this is the one for you goodbye and have a great day
This game inspired me to make Foglight. Its spooky and hard.
My friend beat this.....i count that as a win
Loved this game, and is a great addition to the Chilla's Art lineup! Wasn't to hard to figure out some of the dynamics, though I still ended up dying after a bit (but she won't get me again!) There is plenty of warning when danger is near, and plenty of ways to try to survive it! I would love to see it redone without the retro graphics, but overall, it is very enjoyable and I will be returning to it until I am victorious! Here's some gameplay if you wish to see: https://youtu.be/ARPo0i16ECY
Challenging , very fun and scary.
this game is fu*cked. i love it.
Aka Manto is the most scariest game i have ever played. I love how this game gives you puzzles and items that you need to search and how is the graphics old . But the game is very hard and it has 3 ending. The most annoying thing that if you lose
I cant tell If I love this game or hate this game
Aka Manto is a frustrating game. A good game, but VERY frustrating at times.
Aka Manto does so many things right, only to let its difficulty and main monster make the experience feel cheap. The item collecting aspect of Aka Manto is fantastic. Solving the different puzzles around the school is challenging and fun. Aka Manto does a great job creating a tense atmosphere with its sound design and creepy PS1 style graphics.
Where Aka Manto goes wrong is with Aka Manto himsself. This dude seems to know exactly where you are at all times. It just becomes a game of running away from Aka Manto and completely losing where you are. The layout of the school is a bit confusing and it doesn't help when you're being jumpscared and screamed at. The portals and the baby face make the experience way harder than it needed to be. I feel like there should also be a little more audio warning for Aka Manto. Sounds of footsteps, nonsensical voice lines, or anything sound related would help so much.
Aka Manto's AI ranges from being a complete idiot to knowing where you are at all times and chasing you exactly AWAY from where you need to be. Related to the audio cues thing I mentioned earlier, since there's no audio cues for Aka Manto, sometimes I'd be a few steps in the dark away from him and not know at all. It was super frustrating at times, especially in tight hallways.
You might see all my rambling and ask "Why did he give this a 'Yes" then if he dislikes it this much?" and the answer is that I don't dislike this game. I just know it could be a lot less frustrating. Having no saves is this games downfall IMO. Hourlong runs dying at the finish line is really upsetting.
Lets just be honest here, this is a Nun Massacre clone. A slightly easier Nun Massacre clone, but the formula is good enough to where I don't care.
If you like hard, old school horror, this is for you. Be prepared to lose long runs though, as this game is unforgiving.
7/10
This game traumatized me and im sad now, also it makes bear noises
As a relatively old game from Chilla's Art it's well made and intricate enough for you to explore and complete while being alert of the enemy.
Things like the loud jumpscare, the no save feature and the multiple ways you could mess up and die made this horror game scary by the idea of losing instead of the monster itself.
If you know what you're doing you'll simply be in a fetch quest that ends up being rewarding, but if you don't, it's easy for you to make senseless progress and lose it at the unknown mechanics of the enemy.
Having prepared myself with a few guides is what motivated me to complete yet otherwise it's an overwhelmingly punishing experience, high risk and high reward.
few minutes in and already shidded self 10/10
Challenging but not impossible, a TERRIFYING horror game that I LOVE!
In Aka Manto you’re trapped inside your school. You have to survive the maze of hallways and rooms as you hide in lockers and crawl around in air vents. Oh, and there’s a ghost roaming the premises too.
It’s a very open ended game, in the sense that it’s all just one big maze filled with items. There’s no obvious direction, so the name of the game here is to map out the layout and make mental notes of where items are found. You have a limited inventory, so it’s all about swapping items at the right time and place, knowing where and when to use them later.
There’s a lot I like about the game. You get the usual Chilla’s Art type stuff in terms of presentation. The sound design especially deserves a mention, in the way it manages to elevate creepy to downright terrifying at the drop of a hat. Most importantly when you’re being pursued. Sure, you lose some health if you fumble about. But the real deterrent are those intense, sensory overloading screams and noises that erupt as the hunt begins. Goosebumps!
Recommended if you like contained, puzzle-type games that might give you a heart attack.
shit my pants in the first 5 minutes of the game, 10/10
Scary? nah, Frustrating? yes.
No save, no map, no objective. Run around and bash your head against a wall until you break it.
Once you know where to go and what to do, the game has almost no substance and is super short because of that.
aka manto - you do not know where to go but he is always at where you need to be. is he scary? no. Annoying? yes. You already am struggling to learn the maps and do the puzzle and when this fucker appears screen is filled with gibberish text to blank everything on screen. Thanks. What a superb design!
map design - narrow corridors that are designed to just waste as much time as possible. For example, with the bug in the vent? Play this for first time, you don't know where you need to go so you try best to dodge it. In a fucking straight vent with nowhere to dodge...so you just take damage or wait for it to pass you.
This design is like this all the way through. No means of bypassing something like this and it is simply there to waste time and frustrate you.
Horror - Total lack of. Jumpscare are cheap and that's all there is to it. Don't give a shit about 'living' and just run through the place. Treat it like a 'game' and ...yeah nothing to actually get scared of. No immersion whatsoever.
just to make a point that I did clear this at the point of writing this review. 44mins for good ending clear, after several attempts of bashing my head. Tell you what, go download Silent Hill 1,2, or 3 for good survival horror, or if you want ghost Silent Hill 4. you want scares? Visage is a good game for that too.
This isn't
old resident evil save mechanic except there are no save points
I genuinely shit my pants, like actually, poop balls in my pants rn fr
I'm refunding it but I'll buy it again one day
one of the best standalone horror games on steam, one of the only games that have managed to scare and for such a cheap price I would 100% recommend this game.
Aka Manto? More like Caca Manto
A frightening, challenging, but fun horror experience. Not as difficult as people make it out to be if you get to grips with Aka Manto's usual pattern. This game has no autosaves or manual saves, but it doesn't need it as much as people would like it to have. This game would be too easy then. Although, bug placements are annoying at times.
Worth the money for a short horror experience - 8/10
It's alright, the monsters are a pain since they're too active, instead of heightening the tension it just becomes a shore eventually, still, fun game like Granny and the like. Very atmospheric too. Plus there is an actual gameplay here with some light puzzles, may be worth it in a sale.
Os corredores do andar da cafeteria são os mais arrombados, tirando isso o game é perfeito!
WAS RIGHT AT THE END, THE SWORD WAS RIGHT THERE, I WAS LEGIT ONE SHOT, SHE COMES IN AND RAPES ME. DONT GET THIS GAME
I like it when the scary red man goess OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I genuinely think this is the best ps1 throwback horror game ive ever played, the mechanics are all super solid and the game while very difficult, is very well made. The ability to only carry 3 items is pretty tedious especially since 1 slot will ALWAYS be taken by your only source of sight, your lighter, but other than that there isnt really anything I disliked.
If you're looking for a horrifying, completely unsafe atmosphere filled with jumpscares and probably the most bumpin' chase music I've ever heard. This is your game.
Be warned though, this game is extremely difficult. You gonna die and since there are no saves you have to start all the way over. You'll need a map and a guide and might need to pause to orient yourself sometimes. Your first instinct will always be to want to wait until the area is completely safe before venturing out, but sometimes that's not possible. It can't open doors, but it teleports making no area truly "safe". Many of the vents open into completely open spaces, do you're going to be running a lot. It follows you if you're in an area too long and sometimes you're just going to get chased. It's unavoidable.
Aka Manto's AI is kinda scrungly. Many guides will tell you to drop the lighter or do the pool stuff early, but it's better to just bait Aka Manto to a location and then run into the vent to complete a different area. If you're going for the papers, it's A LOT of back and forth, and I strongly recommend you save getting the purple paper for last and focus on completing the entirety of the 3rd floor and roof first. Good luck. lmao
I'm not one to be super scared of horror games. This game is straight up terrifying. Only other game that has come close to scaring me this badly is Phasmophobia solo. This game's art and visuals are really cool, the objectives are a challenge to figure out alone. I'm not sure if I will ever beat it because it really is challenging (I could easily beat it with a walk through). I fully recommend this game if you're looking for a horror game.
This was a fun horror game. The artstyle is beautiful yet scary.
The game has some bugs though. Aka would go through closed doors even when he wasn't chasing me. This happened 2 times, so it isn't that big of a deal.
I hope Chilla's Art does more stuff like this!
my ears haven't felt the same since playing this.
Absolutely fantastic, terrifying atmosphere, visually pleasing, decently scary monster, perfect amount of time, (not too long not too short), decently difficult, overall 9/10
7/10 I loved the experience, it had me on edge almost the whole time
This is one of the most challenging and difficult games I have ever played. It has many items and multiple endings. Along with the story and the game play i would highly recommend this to anyone and all for the small price of $5.
its a good game i really like it
This game is a 6/10. It's genuinely a good game but is very tedious and has issues. Firstly the game has no saving so if you play for an hour and die you have to restart the whole game, this does make the game more tense but I wish this game had an optional save file. Secondly I had struggled with some of the puzzles and things I had to do as you don't get any clues for certain things. Thirdly the game has bugs especially with the menus/inventory and the game has some issues with changing keybinds. And lastly I feel that Ak Mantos AI is janky and makes no sense at times.
But I do enjoy big aspects of the game such as the style, atmosphere, sound and altogether Ak manto is genuinely scary (up there with the scariest horror games) but it doesn't fully appeal to me due to some of the games issues. It is also very difficult which will appeal to some people but for me the game does feel too tedious.
good game but takes way too damn long to get anything going in the first place, and then if you do then die, you gotta restart the whole thing, if you want to complete the game but you die in the first attempt it totals to a 2 hour playthrough, and the game doesnt tell you anything either it just throws you in blind only adding a slight green hue to certain items.
Good game. It is fun, some good jumpscares.
He stalks, he chases, but most important, he screams (A LOT).
Just glad items are easier to manage, once you figure stuff out.
10/10 would go deaf again.
this shi will give you heart attack
game was scary and got both endings
this game is so scary i dont even wanna play it
LOVE this game. Had me scared shitless the first time I tried to play, and I didn't touch it again for a month, lol. Ultimately, I picked it back up and loved it. The items seem nonsensical at first and the puzzles require some real brain power, which provided a fun challenge. Aka Manto himself is one of the scariest enemies I think I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. The sound design and AI on him is crazy. The game really doesn't take too long when you've played it a lot, but for first-timers, this really gives you the bang worth your buck. Great scares, amazing atmosphere, fun puzzles, and a horrifying enemy.
it is very scary thats what makes it fun one time i tried to go turn off a vent it turned the corner chased me down the hallway. one thing she cant do is go in the vents
i recomend playing
the goast is VERY LOUD, so remember to trun down the volume before you play it
it is a cheap game, but very scary to me.
I WON'T OPEN THIS GAME AGAIN IN MY LIFE.
貼心提醒:把遊戲調小聲,鬼超級吵
很便宜的遊戲,對我來說還滿恐怖的
但是我這輩子不會再打開這遊戲了
i still havent beat the game :(
Very reminiscent of Granny style games but with it's own unique charm and style. Definitely not an easy game but it's worth it if you like a challenge.
this game is scary and hard worth the money
I pee'd my pants a little. Would recommend if you want to become a bed wetter. I ain't opening this game too scary / 10
Really well made game; I unfortunately couldn't stand the scares and had no intention of putting myself through the torture as it literally made my neighbors call the police; I screamed so loud.
this game makes my whole body sweat
It's a terrifying game to play tbh; items are hard to find, the chase music goes hard, and the 'vent centipedes' are annoying as ever
It's pretty funny how whenever you're not in the vents or whenever you're outside of the vents you can still hear the centipede in the vents crawling around and hissing at you
8/10 - would recommend
This game put me through so much torture with the fact of no checkpoints. And what I loved about it the most was the fact that you get to let out all of your anger on aka manto in the end once you gather all 7 papers and it felt so good that I screamed to the point where I got in trouble. The scariest parts would have to be the dark hallways and roaming around the school with no idea if he’s about to turn the corner or just chase u immediately from behind. In terms of gameplay, The game had a few bugs with his movement but it wasn’t anything game changing for me. Overall it’s a great game and would definitely recommend if you have the time and would like to give yourselves a challenge. 10/10
The limited inventory capacity and centipedes attacking you in air vents takes away most of the fun. Also Aka Manto seem to teleport to predetermined locations based on your position. Graphics and atmosphere are fine though. A missed opportunity IMO.
Is Aka Manto bri'ish or sum? Why does she wanna shank me?
Great game tho
I think I need a new pair of underwear
died so many times trying to beat the game i have lost all human emotion. it was a good scare
this game was so creepy and gave me the willies
