🉐 Gorgeous. A localized remaster that was truly worth the wait. The graphics may be dated and the combat system may feel clunky, but this is a truly content-rich and fun addictive game. In a few words — this is a “weaboo yakuza”. For some, this is a typical anime game, but how well-developed it is, considering the original release in 2011. The city seems truly alive, as do multiple NPCs with different reactions to what is happening. The campaign with all the extras won't take you more than 20h, but it doesn’t end there. Great customization with hundreds of loot items, replayability with multiple endings and secrets — just love it! If it had been released worldwide on PSP in due time, it would have become a real banger.

it's far below Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed in quality. Everything about this game is just so frustrating. There are quests that rely on random spawns, you can revisit same location multiple times before you meet your target, but game doesn't tell you that. When you fight on an arena, civilians will just wander in and stand there, waiting to catch a stray hit. Your sister sucks compared to the one from Undead. Combat also sucks. I couldn't finish it, nothing about this game is good.

I really, really tried with this game but i just... can't.

I enjoyed the PS3 Akiba's Trip so was looking forward to this, the dialogue is hilarious and i like the premise surrounding the story however.... the combat is unbearable.

The combat is janky beyond belief and unresponsive, there isn't even a lock on function so 90% of the time you try to attack, one of two scenarios will happen:

A) Your attacks hit thin air and do not track to the person you wanted to hit
B) You get dog piled by everyone and their mother, stuck in a constant stun animation

I wanted to enjoy it and really gave it a shot, but this is unplayable.

There is a huge problem with this game currently regard controller... there is a bug that causes controller to stop working every time a new area is loaded, until that is fix, this game is pretty much unplayable with a controller unless you restart the game every time you go to a new area..

You can however play this on a keyboard but this game is not design for keyboard making it incredibility difficult to play.. sometimes it might even require you to have 3 hands since you need to control the camera additional to fight and block and moving your character.

and it doesnt seems like the dev is interested to fix the controller problem, so until some one made a mod to fix the controller problem, a better way to play this game might be just get it on other platform or use an emulator.

I loved this game back on the psp, but I thought they would do more than upscale the textures, which look awful in 1080p still. It would just be better to get the Undead and Undressed port on Steam instead. I love this game but the jank models and animations clash with the hd textures. While the game plays janky, and that was fine for a 2011 psp game, he controls for mouse and keyboard make it harder to play than it should be

Got this because I liked U&U despite all of its flaws. While that game didn't age well, it was still fun and had a lot of character. It was still enough to make me get all of the achievements again after doing so on PS Vita.

This game didn't make me want to play after the first few minutes. Combat just felt very awkward and everything looks so dull. Quickly asked for a refund, I'm amazed that this cost more than U&U when it's nowhere near as good.

A Time Capsule of the Decade Passed

This is a game I have been meaning to play ever since it was released on the PSP. Even my friends recommended it to me back then. For some reason, it has remained in my backlog until now.

Let's first talk about the graphics and gameplay.

Well, this game was originally released on the PSP, so the graphics are from that era. But to be honest, it could have been better. On top of that, it's an indie budget title. There are a lot of .png files of real-life photos used as in-game environments. For me, it's charming, but I have to mention that it's better suited for the PSP rather than the PC or PS4 port due to the low resolution. Some of the character 2D sprites don't scale well either. But other than that, I think the graphics are pretty good. I'm a sucker for old games, but I grew up with them. The 3D character models are also reused throughout the game, so they look totally different from the character 2D sprites. When my friends and I streamed this game on Discord, we always joked to keep our eyes at the bottom right of the screen where the character portrait is. By the way, the 2D art is really good! It's expressive, cute, cool, and sketchy, just the way I like it. It's far better than the 2nd game.

The world of the game is a highlight though! Even though I said the graphics are flawed, the world itself, the miracle holy city of Akibahabara, is faithfully created. Even the placement of people is accurate. It's built based on the real Akiba in 2010-2011. I had the chance to visit Akiba in 2018, and I remember the feeling of the city. I can say that it's still a match in the game. It's nostalgic to see 2011 Akiba in this game, even though I wasn't there at that time. There's a box of PS3 slim stacked in the case, posters, and culture from around cute and moe anime (thanks, 2007). It's something I've experienced even though I wasn't there myself. That's the power of subculture. The platonic ideal of a culture from around the city, the freedom to express a thought of oneself, a dream, the spark of youth, is well captured in the game setting. It's done so well, in my opinion.

Now about the gameplay. Let me tell you this: since many reviews here talk about how they can't pull out a combo or input a move, it works just fine for me. Just use the d-pad! I played the whole game with the d-pad and pressing the R button to turn the camera (yup, I'm an OG PSP player). I have no issues pulling off any combo or input command in this game. The game is built like a 3D-type tank control, so you have to respect that. But I have to admit that it could have been done a lot better, considering this is an HD port version. For the combat itself, it's just a beat 'em up that focuses on guarding and counter-attacking. Nothing fancy here, although you need to strip your opponent to defeat them, which is something interesting. Overall, it's fun enough for me.

Now, the main dish of the game: STORY

The plot of this game is so stupidly crazy, but the developers commit to it so seriously that it ends up being pretty good! Throughout my 28-hour playthrough of the game, I really enjoyed it so much. For me, there was no downtime in the story, and every side quest was pretty fun to play through with all the funny and geeky dialogue. The heart of the story revolves around the culture and people of AKIBAHABARA, and I have to say it's well-written. It captures an ideal and a way of seeing things through the eyes of people who really love it there. You're not going to see this often in AAA+++ games. It feels like you're listening to a friend talk about their passion, ideas, and dreams. This is not just a fictional story, but it's mixed with the voices of people who created it. There's a scene where a character tries to explain why schoolgirl uniforms are special, and you will feel like it came from the heart of someone who's really into it. It's not forced or even feel weird. It's just people telling a story about what they love to someone. And the characters... oh my. They're pretty good! There are all the tropes of characters you think you're going to find in anime here. The main female character, Rui, is even voiced by one of the legendary SEIYUU, Hikasa Yoko! And yes, the voice acting is amazing (although the English dub sucks balls). Like I said, the characters are written so well. Even hard topics about real-life issues are written in a subtle enough way in the game. The boys Nobu and Gon are the best! I'll try not to mention the story since it's better to go in blind, but you can treat it as a 12-episode seasonal anime :D

The music is good, and you know it will be good because they got Dreamin by ClariS as an OP, and there are lots of additional songs in the game, such as a song by Mirin Furukawa and LAZY GUNG. The sounds you hear in the city are real sounds captured in the 2010s. It holds something so special there! "MOE MOE MOE CUTE"

In short, the whole game is a time capsule of a decade passed. Playing through the game feels like a fleeting dream. Now I understand why my friend recommended this game to me 11 years ago...

BTW, I need to mention that the Deluxe edition comes with a little 10th-anniversary artbook that contains 4 pages of the 10 years after story written from Rui's POV. Good stuff!

Let's get the bad out of the way first.

1. It's rather overpriced for what it is. Get it on sale. This is a handheld game from 2011 with few touch-ups being done. It's especially weird that it is more expensive than its sequel which improves upon it in almost every way.
2. Audio quality varies in the dub, I think some lines had to be recorded from home due to COVID restrictions. It's jarring at first but I forgot about the issue entirely after a while.
3. Due to it being a PSP game from 2011, and hardly remastered at that, the graphics are pretty chunky. I personally have no issue with the graphics, I'm well used to playing retro games and I think it looks fine enough to enjoy. But it seems to be a dealbreaker for a lot of people.
4. The combat is CLUNKY. The camera sometimes works against you, movement is stilted, and any situation where you're fighting multiple enemies is stunlock city. I recommend avoiding harder difficulties. If you play on Normal or Easy difficulties you can get strong gear to make up for the unfair parts and tank all the damage you'll inevitably receive.

So with all of these negatives, especially some damning ones, why would I recommend this game?

Well, to be honest, I'm just willing to put up with certain negatives if I find the overall experience fun. And I do here. Much like its sequel, the Strip mechanic allows for a fun sandbox where any NPC can become a combatant and any outfit you see anyone wearing can be yours to collect. While the combat is clunky, I don't find it completely unacceptable— it still does its job of making the dopamine in my brain go brr when I beat people up. The things I liked most about the sequel are here, but honestly that alone isn't why I'd recommend it. That'd just make me recommend the sequel instead, which in the vast majority of ways is the much better game.

No, I recommend this game strictly for the story and characters. All the other elements are "passable", but the only real reason I'd suggest someone play this instead of U&U is because the characters and music really resonated with me in this game. It's been a long time since I played U&U so I may need to refresh myself on that one, but I think I like the cast and story of this one more. There's 5ish endings in the game and I'm working on the last one now. If you can stomach the flaws with this game, I really do think the characters make it worthwhile. And if you haven't played the sequel yet and find you enjoy this game, I think that'll let you appreciate the advancements the sequel made all the more.

Last note: It might be worth picking up the deluxe edition for the artbook alone. This game is fairly obscure to the point that it's hard to find art and stuff for the game online. The art in the artbook more or less can't be found anywhere else. But more importantly, this game came out to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the original PSP release. So the artbook includes a story in there from the perspective of Rui, telling us what things have been like for everyone in the 10 years since the events of the game's true ending. If you become attached to the characters the way I did, this story is really really cool to read and makes you feel nostalgic for them as though it really had been 10 years, even though you just played the game a few days ago. That alone makes the deluxe edition worth it, for me.

I went into this game to see where the "Akiba's Trip" franchise started and I leave very disappointed. With this being the first game in the series, I understand that it will not be as polished or have the quality of life features the second game has, but wow. It's mind blowing how much better "Undead and Undressed" is compared to this one. The combat is the worst thing about this game. It is clunky and has serious collusion detection issues. Since you, apparently, can't lock on to enemies, you have to line yourself up with them and attack. If this were a one on one fighting game, that would be fine. As this is a beat-em up, the player being able to freely move and attack their opponents should be a priority in design. Once you have to fight more than one person at once, it becomes incredibly frustrating. On the real, I'm glad this game exists. If it didn't, the developer never would have created the superior sequel. If you are even a casual fan of this series, do yourself a favor and stick with "Undead and Undressed".

A remaster of 2011 PSP game Akiba's Trip Plus. Might be inferior gameplay-wise compared to 2(Undead & Undressed) but it gave respect to the original version and surprisingly enough to support English Language.

Until now i guess the problem with the keyboard input hasn't properly being fixed yet.

Kanoli

This game is very fun. I really enjoyed replaying it to get the other endings and I might even play on holic(though it depends whether I'm masochistic enough to do so).

The combat... Well, it's definitely not the best. You can't lock on enemies so you end up missing attacks. There were times I missed an attack and the enemy hit me from behind. I had to buy a controller because playing on keyboard and mouse was a pain.

While NG+ lets you keep items and clothes, money and levels don't carry over so that is something you need to look out for.

The reason I kept playing despite combat being a main point in the game is because i absolutely love the setting and the characters. I fell in love with the writing and the music. I just can't get enough of it really. Though, some characters are not fleshed out as the others, The DBP twins

I played with the Japanese dub first then switched to English on my 2nd playthrough. While the EN dub isn't bad, you can really tell who has a bad mic, though that may just have been because this game is a port, but I haven't played the OG on PSP yet so I don't know exactly. If the quality bothers you then I'd recommend the Japanese dub as I haven't encountered problems with it so far.

While this game has its problems, it has its charms too. I'd definitely recommend this game on sale.

Okay, this is really easy. There are fun parts to this game yes but non of them matter for one simple reason, the combat. To call the combat atrocious would be an underserved compliment, I honestly cannot come up with a word to describe how beyond bad this combat is.

Onto a more serious review. I wish there was a neutral recommendation but, since there isn't, I cannot recommend this game at full price.

To preface this review, I played the original version and the plus version on a psp years ago.

I love that Aquire has translated this game into English and ported it to pc. It makes it easier preserve such a great series.

However, if you are coming in from Undead & Undressed, you may be disappointed.

While it does say HD update, the graphics does not look great when it is up-scaled to 1080p and above. Also, the voice recordings sound compressed. This is to be expected when you port a psp game to pc.

Story wise, it is interesting, albeit darker than U&U; it is the high point of the game. Like its successor, your choices can have consequences, whether it is picking which faction you support or dying in the first 10 minutes of the game.

As for the world itself, while there are areas different than U&U, you do feel more boxed-in than U&U. Unlike in U&U, you are forced to go back to the map after leaving an area. It doesn't feel like you are exploring a world, rather you are exploring different levels.

The biggest difference is in the combat. In U&U, they really polished it up and made it fun but, here, it just feels clunky.

This is especially noticeable on Otaku and Holic difficulty. The game goes from a beat em' up style combat to rock paper scissors combat.

If they block, you use unblockable attacks.
If they use unblockable attacks, you use regular attacks.
If they use regular attacks, you block and parry.

This wouldn't be a problem if they mixed up what the AI does. However, if all the AI does is block for 5 seconds, attacks, and repeats, the fighting becomes very stale.

Also some other quality of life mechanics weren't added yet.

One of which is being able to leave the map with you weapon drawn. At first, this seems like a good thing but, it also means an enemy can knock you back to the map screen, thus losing any progress you had with an enemy, or any items on the ground.

Healing is also a pain since you have put away your weapon mid-combat to heal and re-equip it again to fight.

One of the most annoying parts of the game is where npcs would flee from a scene, whether it be from your bad reputation or you recently stripped a human. Sometimes, they would run into you and cause you to stagger. During that time, you can't really do anything until the npc gets passed you, which can be a 1 second or 10.

If you do buy it, you can only save and change equips on the map screen, took myself a bit to figure that out.

I will gladly change my review if the devs plan to something about the quality, mechanically or graphically. Anything really. If they aren't, at least make the price more reasonable.

TLDR: The age of the game shows but, if you really like the Akiba's Trip series, by all means get it but, not at full price.

If this will be your first Akiba's Trip game, go with Undead & Undressed.

Within the first 10 minutes of the game I was able to bully a cute secretary into telling me her measurements.

I have been waiting to play this game for a very, very long time and I am happy to see it on Steam, but I cannot lie to you. It looks like a PSP game, which it was, and plays like Acquire's first attempt Akiba's Trip which they refined in the other game Akiba's Trip 2, released in America as Akiba's Trip Undead and Undressed (calling it AT2 from here on out.). If you want this, you will have to meet it halfway. You're playing a relic given the thinnest layer of spit polish preserved for posterity. The fact that this got remastered and then translated AT ALL is really a love letter to the fans of AT2, so as a labor of love I am extremely happy with this product. Is it as good as AT2? Not at all and it has not been upgraded to be so. But it is still a fun ride and a joy to have this relic updated and ported and translated so that I may finally have a chance to play it.

One big difference in this from the second game is that the story has multiple branching paths depending on which faction you wish to side with, complete with different final bosses, which gives it a bit more of a Way of the Samurai flavor and a bit more justification for replay than AT2:U&U had. Plus, even though you cannot steal underwear in this game, it somehow manages to be even more lewd and shameless than the sequel.

That having been said, most of the negative comments about the game are still true: The pacing is pretty lousy. The game is packed with side quests that are just "Go here, beat this dude up." repeat, and you MUST do them (Except for the quest fairly early on that is nearly impossible to complete without NG+ stripping skills.) because you need money to go buy skills for your character to extend your moveset and to strip clothes without destroying them (Mercifully you can knock most of this out in one play and if you want to go back for the other endings in NG+ those skills carry over.). The main plot path isn't too much better with two whole quests where you have to go change to a specific outfit just to mess with your build and slow you down and every route ends in an awful WotS classic series of boring horde fights. That said if you play it smart you can hold onto plot outfits and buy extras of grocery shopping items to speed through the game on replays.

Most of the game's negatives can be evaded if you just do the following: Play only on Casual difficulty, nothing harder, nothing easier. You can enjoy just about everything the game has to offer if you do all of your runs on Casual and you will avoid every problem with the combat system. The combat itself has similar issues to Nier Automata and all the Way of the Samurai games: The devs are amateurs at making action combat in their RPGs, and when AT1 gets hard, it typically gives you enemies that can kill you in two hits in a combat system where most of the time you and an enemy are staring at each other blocking forever because attacking into the block stances just gets you countered and a guard break attack will be countered by most AI. The combat simply is not as good as the devs think it is, and the proof of that is in their laughable single "crowd control" move which will not improve your horde fight experience at all. Again, this entire paragraph will be completely bypassed if you just play on casual, same way Nier Automata's combat problems are almost entirely invisible if played on Normal. So stick to Casual.

Now this is is a weird nitpick to make but the heroine of the game is on the side of all the bad guys pretty firmly so this obviously nice, good girl spends half the game off screen or even as a midboss and you are left girl-free for most of the run, possibly even for one of the endings if you side against her. Without a girl to fight for/alongside, you're kinda just some degenerate weirdo following random emails to go rip clothes off of Akihabara's worst vampire jerks. But for all the alternate endings and factions they give you, the heroine is quite clearly after the best ending and makes the best pitch for a good way to resolve the game. They are trying the WotS style "choose your own ending" faction system, but at least in those games even siding with the bad guys you could see as a reasonable choice. Here, you dont even get to smoke cigars and laugh with the villain. The bad end is just "You ruin a little girl's dream and make her cry." It is a weird tonal holdover from WotS but I can roll with it. Acquire is pretty crazy typically so these sorts of curve balls come with the territory.

Two more things: The translator had a lot less CREATIVITY for this game than AT2:U&U (THANK GOODNESS) so you are not going to be subject to a bunch of awful jokes in place of stuff like "hai hai" and "nii nii." And full Ja[p voice track is added too so you can play the dub or play the original dialogue.

EDIT: Brief review of the deluxe contents. The soundtrack does the job but it still sounds like it came from a PSP game. The artbook is mostly commissioned art from other artists. You get a brief extra story telling you where everyone from AT1 is "now" after the true end of that game, and about a half dozen extra pieces of official art. Half the book is dedicated to AT2 (U&U), but the only pictures they have for it are character art and the CGs from that game that you've already seen if you played that game.\

A little niche game brought over 10 years later to the west. Whereas Akiba's trip 2 or undead and undressed did.
The game story is pretty straight forward and knows what it is and doesn't try to do anything special, the combat is pretty much how it is. you go and strip enemy vampires to kill them, But I say the negative is the combat is pretty janky compare to undead and undressed and you have enemies just attacking you every two steps where they atleast fixed that in undead and undressed. I say pick this game up if you liked undead and undressed ,But I say wait until sell though.

This was so PAINFUL to play, I got the first game as a joke for valentines day 3 years ago and honestly I managed to fall in love with it, just the simple beat 'em up mechanics were so good, not to mention the world building, you could enter so many shops and half of them sold items you would never really need, then there's the clothing customization I loved, the silly sidequests, the diverse story, the absurd plot that tried to take itself seriously. My hope's weren't high for the remaster of the PSP game but it fell flat on it's face.

when I think of a remaster i think of improving the game and fixing any issues with it, but my god this thing ages TERRIBLY and none of the issues were even glanced at.

1.) This game doesn't have any skill curve, it's a skill cliff, that starts the moment you start. you aren't playing a game, you are dragging your face along the concrete wall of the game until you beat it.

2.) Stun mechanics. you get stun locked a lot, like a lot a lot, like if you're fighting 2 enemies or more at once they can easily combo you out of existence, like when fighting the final boss before I could even move he managed to do 4000 damage to me. and that's not to mention the ACTUAL stuns, where you get stunned for 2 seconds if someone does enough damage to an unarmored part of your body. The only way i was able to beat some parts of this game where you get attacked by 3 or more people was by running around until the enemies accidentally attacked someone else and got in a fight with them.

3.) the jokes, oh god the "jokes" aged horribly, some of the lesser ones are usually about a dude being abused by his girlfriend because of his hobbies, transgender people sounding very masculine for no reason, having to go buy "special items" for a sex addicted maniac, having to have your sister beat you up so a pervert can imagine what it tastes like. but the BIGGEST offender is that one of their re-occoring jokes is one particular agent continually being "forced upon and a borderline non-consensual way" by that sex addicted maniac. Just horrible, I spent most of the time playing this game giving a disapproving frown.

4.) no locking on to enemies. I mean like it seems like it wouldn't be that much of an issue, but when you're fighting by the skin of your teeth preparing a power attack only for you character to decide they are gonna strike about 5 feet to the left of the guy then you just lost, purely because why not. It gets worse because sometimes you can miss by a few inches, at least trice i did an attack that literally had my arms faze through my opponent.

5.) No quality of life improvements. There is no way to change your character's gear unless you go on the map screen. to get on the map screen you have to walk out of the zone you're standing in, so it takes an extra 30 seconds to change gear compared to you just using your phone like in Undead and Undressed. same with saving, you have to be on the map screen, and side quests, you have to go to a specific person on the map, and just getting certain clothes you have to buy books that can sometimes cost 100k. And god forbid you don't get those books by the time you beat the game, because for some reason in New Game+ you lose all you coins because you "donated it to charity", speaking of which.

6.) You will have random people constantly come up to you for no important reason. You'll have kids come up to you and demand money, then try to fight you. You will have charity workers demand money. You'll have random band members just fight you for no reason. If you go into debt there will be a loan shark to fight you in every zone. It destroys the flow of the game.

Honestly I can't think of any reason to recommend this game over Undead and Undressed, just get that one instead, and if you liked that game then MAYBE you'll leave this game with only a slight sour taste in your mouth.

Edit: I got all 4 endings and it doesn't get any better, higher difficulties just means enemies an combo you easier.

Xriborg

I enjoyed Undead and Undressed a lot. The ridiculous premise is fun and the silliness of the fighting made up for it's shortcomings. This game is inferior to U&U in every way. Not that this was unexpected. U&U was the sequel afterall, but I was still hoping for a good experience. This is an utter slog.

The combat in U&U wasn't good, but it was tolerable. The combat in this is ATROCIOUS. It commits every possible sin it can. Fighting one person is inoffensive at best but as soon as someone else joins the fray it's a button mashing stunlock nightmare. Your control on who your targeting is non-existant and you'll often have people hitting you in the back with no way to defend yourself. You have crowds of moronic NPCs bystandards that run into the middle of the fray and then blame you for getting punched in the face. You'll have cops come in and arrest quest targets, preventing you from completing them unless you leave and re-enter the area or attack the cop. Cops will arrest you through some arbitrary means of blowing a whistle and locking your character in place. The camera swings everywhere and gets stuck on walls staring at some fence or grafitti in the foreground. I struggle to recall a shittier combat experience in my 30 or so years of gaming. I'm getting annoyed again just typing about it.

The rest of what the game does it does well enough, but the combat is basically the only real gameplay there is. A re-release could have been an opportune time to fix some of it but this game comes warts and all, and the combat makes it a leper.

Don't get it unles you REALLY REALLY REALLY liked U&U and need more.

The story, setting and music make this game really worth playing, although you may struggle to keep interest because of the combat.

Akiba's Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed is a remaster of a PSP game made 10 years ago. What your playing now is how I assume it was originally played way back then.

Some things will definitely frustrate you at times (I'm playing on hard mode to start with so it may be a bit different for others) but combat is definitely not as easy and fluid as it was in Undead and Undressed. The buttons don't seem to line up exactly in time when you push them and the camera can be all over the place at times. It feels very tough to control and, if just starting out, it's going to make you just want to shut off the game and never look at it again. If you also manage to accidentally stumble upon a crowd of enemies near the beginning of the game, you're going to wish you hadn't even bothered in the first place.

That being said, once you start upgrading your gear and start getting a feel of how things are timed, it is going to feel a bit easier. It's a PSP game with slightly updated visuals and not much else, so don't go expecting to be playing a top of the range product. Areas are smaller than they were in Undead and Undressed and you can't just shove past NPCs either, which adds to the claustrophobic feel to the environments.

So I guess you're probably wondering why I've thumbs upped this game when I have so many bad things to say about it.

The game really shines in its story telling and music. Honestly, I'm surprised with how likeable all the characters are and how the music fits with each situation. It sets up an interesting premise of vampires doing their typical vampire things, only this time you're ripping off their clothes to expose them to sunlight rather than doing the regular stab through the heart with a wooden stake thing or covering them in garlic (I assume). NPCs also react differently depending on how you play. If you attack too many vampires in your playthrough, they'll become more hostile towards you and attack on sight. While if you attack to many innocent bystanders, they'll flee and not want to interact with you in anyway. When the game description said that my choices mattered, I didn't think it would go this in depth (especially given the kind of game that it is).

Each character is voiced very well (at least in English, I don't know what the Japanese version is like) and all the conversations flow naturally and keep you engaged as you follow along with the plot. People react and behave as you would expect them to in this weird situation they've been forced into and nothing feels forced. I'm only about 4 hours in but I'm already feeling like I want to know more and find out what will happen by the end of the game. The quality is somewhat compressed however. I think this was to put it in line with the original Japanese voices, so it doesn't feel too different between the two. Given how this was a Japanese only title to begin with they can't just go back and make the quality of the original voice files better so, as a compromise, they just decreased the English voice lines' quality.

The music in this game is also very well composed. Each scene has the right track playing to help set up the tone of the moment, The battle themes are much heavier sounding in this game, in comparison to Undead and Undressed which has a more light-hearted, upbeat tone. I guess that was to fit with the more serious nature of the story, but they're still great to listen to.

The graphics however are noticeably aged and makes you think you're playing a PS2 game. It's not as clean and sharp as it's sequel, but it's somewhat darker colour scheme and lessened bloom effects does make it look a bit better due to it's darker story.

There's only so much you can do with a 10 year old game so, if you're more into more complex and advanced systems, this probably won't be the game for you. But if you're looking for a niche title, with some pretty interesting elements and a cool little story hidden within, give it a try.

Final verdict: 7/10

If there was a neutral, that's what I'd give this game.

I bought this game because I liked Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed.
It is an alright game, kinda fun to play through.
My main issue with the game is that the combat feels super clunky and the PSP graphics really did not age well. But, it's about what you would expect from a game that was just ported with no real changes.

This is an interesting fighting game, that centers around you being coerced/forced into becoming a Shadow Soul (a manmade vampire with basically only one of the weaknesses: the sun). And now, after being rescued and gaining some measure of control, you are fighting against the rest of the vampiric horde.

Thing is, to defeat them, you need to expose them to the sun... by stripping them down to their skivvies... or less...

There is also a visual novel element to the game, as your choices will determine the ending you receive.

I have been having some issue with the controls, as the game seems to not like a keyboard/mouse set-up. Frankly, this is one of those games I think you need a controller for...

Still would recommend, though perhaps on discount.

I really wanted to like this, but at this price for this basic a "remaster" it's not worth it. That's the objective part. Subjectively, its not for everyone. Imagine a really janky Yakuza with weeabier characters. I can imagine a lot would like that. Even then, it's still a psp game, so keep that in mind for the price.

Depression

I tried it quite a while now but the fighitng gets worse the more you play the crap... and that in a fighting game...

The balance is horrible, you have the choice between kicking everyones butt or get your own kicked by everyone and every item that would actually help you getting your butt NOT kicked is redicilous overpriced... might would help if you at least could keep the money on a new game+ but nope, no luck.

The fighting itself is a pain in said butt, like mentioned the game has a terrible balance so you need like a infinity to dress down your opponent while he just slaps you once with his cheap toy weapon and your clothes torns apart like a paperbag.

Yeah sure a 1vs1 fight is doable with some patience but then there are always npc's who thinks "hey this fight is unfair, i should go help the non-player character" so you ending up fighting a unfair battle with multiple enemies wich just doesn't work either in this game.

And i care a damn if this is a port of a psp game, get your damn done right when you re-release something.

Long story short: This one is crap get undead & Undressed instead.. in a sale or something.

It's a good game if you never played the first one.

It's combat feels flat, it's inventory and equipment management feels far more basic, and the map feels smaller since you can't just walk everywhere. It feels like this should have been the first game and Undead and Undressed was the second.

EDIT: It's actually smaller than the first game by an entire gigabyte.

EDIT 2: Just found out this a PSP remake, that's more of a port or copy.

Yeah, I can't recommend this one.
Now hold on a minute. Even though I don't like this one, I do like the first one in the series (Even though this is technically the first one 🤣).
The game play for this game was fun, don't get me wrong, but the story didn't pull me in.

How the Characters Were

The characters are the reason I have to tell you to skip this title, and just play the first one. Now I can't say that I hated the characters, but they were just so generic! Yeah, they were generic and boring. I feel like they wanted the friend group to be as strong as the friend groups in the persona series, but they ended up not achieving that...
They were trying SO HARD to make the friend group have that persona friend group feel, but you can't achieve that with characters this lame! They were so generic. 🙁
I did like the fact that they were a group of outcast otakus, but it wasn't executed well enough for me to like them. I wish they would have been more likable. The reason I am being EXTREMELY hard on the characters is because it's an RPG. If it were any other genre, I would have been a little less cruel. RPGs are so story-focused that if you don't like the characters you're doomed, because you will have to cut through hours of dialog from characters you don't care about. Don't know if this counts as a spoiler, but the guy named Nobuhiro is a part of the friend group. Yeah, he's one of thoughs, "I'm a pervert! I like girls," trope-type characters. Like we don't have enough of them already... Anyway, he says something in the game that's super generic of his trope type, and the main character is given the option to say something like "Wow, you really wanna be the H guy, huh?" Really think about that for a minute. The game makes fun of itself by telling you that he is generic. Though this is an import from a game released in older times, I am still going to be hard on it because Nobuhiro is generic for even back then! Even in all the generic madness, I like how he broke the 4th wall that one time. Can't remember how many times he's done that, but he's done it at least once. Even though the Akiba Trip game series is a series that doesn't take itself seriously, I still wanted to like the characters a little more than they were. I'm not gonna go down the line for each character, but please know that they are pretty generic and boring.

Game Play

Okay, wow! The game play is not bad! 😃
However, it is a little different than the first one. And please know that when I say game play, I'm refering to the combat system. Yeah, because there is so much boring dialog, you barely get to fight anyone. Why would there barely be any battles? 🤨
It doesn't make any since! I understand it's an RPG, but the other one let you fight a little more than this one. I don't understand why! The battles are different than the other Akiba game, because you have to put more thought into your moves. I feel like the block button is a bit more useful in this game. However, I didn't play all the different game modes, so I can't say if one game was harder than the other. But they battle system is different. I think the other one was a bit better battle-wise. I feel that first time players will be disappointed if they just played the other Akiba game. If you are hoping for the same amount of battles like the first one, you'll be disappointed! 😃
Combat is just different. I have mixed feelings about it, but I know that these mixed feelings are because I played the other one, and expected this title to be the same.
-
Missions

Yes, I feel like this deserves its own special section. They are kind of tedious... I feel like missions just made the game more boring than it should have been. Why? Because the game kind of forces you to do missions for money in a way. How do they do this, you ask? Well, missions are the only real way to get money if you don't want to have a bad reputation. If your reputation gets bad enough, people will start to attack you! It's bad enough that if you attack too many people by accident, you could get people to start coming for you, but if you attack random people on purpose... Man, that just makes the game SO MUCH HARDER! 😟
And that's why players are burdened into doing missions for extra money. Yeah, you read that right. We are '... burdened' with the challenge of completing missions for cash. It wouldn't be so bad if they were fun. We only do it because we don't wanna get attacked the entire time we're playing the game! 😫

Edit: Oh yeah, one more thing about missions. You only have a limited amount of missions to cut through. Once that's over, it's a wrap.
-
Just WAY to Long!
The only real reason my play time on this game is so high is because it's a long game.
This game is VERY time consuming. It took me over 40 hours just to complete one ending! I'm not sure if I even want to play the other ones. If anything, I'd rather play the endings for the other Akiba game. I just don't understand how a game this boring can have this many endings!
What's left? 🤨
What could we want to be left? 😟
Am I really going to waste more of my life to find out? 🙁
I'm not sure.

-
Graphics

Yeah, it looks pretty bad.
But I'm not going to go in on it, because it's just an import. The original version (as we all may know) was for PSP, and because its original release date (2011) it looks old. It did not age well (and that's just pointing out the obvious). But if you actually bought this game, you didn't buy it for the graphics. You most likely bought it because you liked the other game. So bashing this game's dated graphics doesn't feel morally right, because I know what I signed up for! 🤣
But this only applies to the graphics. Yeah, I only knew what I was getting into graphic-wise.
Though it's not the worst, I can't help but to get Custom Robo feels, which is a series that Nintendo should have rights to (I only think they have the rights to Custom Robo because that's the platform they are released on). And to be honest, I kind of like Custom Robo's graphics! This is gonna sound messed up, but I'm old. And back in my day, the graphics were SO bad that players had to use their imagination to make up for it. Game developers back in my day would create sprites, for the main characters, to give you some kind of an idea of what they were going for. So I'm only giving the graphics an 8 out of 10, because it's pretty nostalgic, which may not be a fair thing to do because it IS OLD, and not a modern game doing it on purpose.
Either way, I like the graphics. But only because I'm old. 🤣
-
Control Support

Uh.. for whatever reason, I had some what of a hard time trying to get my PS4 controller to work with this game. I was able to make it work while my controller is hooked up to a usb port, but it just doesn't work well with Bluetooth. I don't think this is a problem on my end though, because all of my other Steam games work well with a controller via Bluetooth connection. I would definitely tell you guys to really think about this before buying the game.
-

Over All Review.

*Sigh*

With bad control support, boring main characters, completely different game play (bitter sweet); graphics only good because I might be a hipster/and or old, and a story that is just SO BORING! With all of that in mind, I would tell you just to skip it. The only reason I would not try to use a teleport machine to be all like, "Dude, don't buy that game! you'll waste money," is if you are one of those people that loves this franchise so much that you have to have everything in your collection. I'll say this, I'm not a die hard fan of the franchise, but I do like the first one. So I'm not compelled to own it because it's there, and I liked the first one. But I know some people are! 😃
For everyone else though, just play the other one.
