For me this would be a great game if they were to add full controller support, but unfortunately they aren't going to do that so I wasted my money buying it, as it is a nightmare trying to play it with the partial support that it has.

One of the best games you'll never play.
It had a brief surge of life a few years ago when it was free for a time and it was really good fun.
Sadly it doesn't even come close to breaking single digit these days and there's no good reason to spend nearly 20 bucks to play against bots.

PLEASE BUY THIS GAME!!...this game has great potential and if more people give this awesome experience a chance it will have the necessary funding to really polish this gem 💎 there is so much great things that it has accomplished that AAA Studios can't do!!! Please support these developers so they can finish this project!

AFF is a great and enjoyable FPS as it is, it sets itself apart from the market, and it has much potential to become more, as it is still in early access. Definitely a must try!

The concept is that as a FPS in space you can board ships and structures and operate those, all this as part of a team of a couple of dozen of people. In all the scenarios played, the action happens in different environments, and you can go from ship pilot, to ship crew, to "on foot" regular FPS. This breaks the linearity of any other game, and this works very well!
The variety of ships, scenarios, ships, creative weapon systems, as well as pretty well designed maps makes the game.
Go for it, you won't regret it.

You just woke up, the sun is shining, theres no school because its summer break, its 2005. You and your friends finally have a lot of free time to play your favorite star wars game... battlefront 2.

You realize you're just dreaming about another dream so you actually wake up. Your alarm didn't go off, its your day off and you start to look back at the golden days of not having a minimum wage job and everyone calling you a loser every day. you're an adult living in a messed up world, nothing would make you happier than to go back and play some battlefront with the boys. But maybe they're no longer your friends, you guys became divided after you formed your own beliefs. its just you..... you're all alone. If you could only find something to fill that hole ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Enter, Angels Fall First. A true battlefront experience that reminds you of all the things you loved about older games! from boarding ships and blowing them up from the inside out ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) to massive land battles with vehicles. Not to mention the players on the online servers are very helpful and overall kind. its a very inviting community that is shockingly small. if online play isn't for you, then theres always offline. The AI can actually put up a decent fight, especially when they're all lumped up around an objective in a capital ship.

10/10 game, definitely worth the price

Very good, games pretty dead but the bots are pretty well done so it doesn't matter much.

Not really ready, after all these years some maps still have terrible balancing issues, with one side dominating the other (these maps should just be taken down if they arent prepared to do something about them). Matches seem like they dont last long enough to actually get into sometimes, and a lot of the maps feel complex enough that you can get lost trying to your way around, even just to find the hanger bay.

I do like the idea here though, it feels like the old battlefront 2 game and the way you can customize your weapons is fun to strategize about, with a lot of pros and cons to consider. The combat does feel a little too clunky sometimes though and trying to kill people in close quarters without a shotgun feels very hectic and not in a good way.

The graphics are a little dated as well but its looks fine, and the guns feel pretty good in their respective roles. Overall, its an ok game with a handful of standout maps, a lot of mediocre ones, and few that make me very angry. Maybe someday the devs will fully release this game but its kind of a longshot in my eyes. Theres a lot of work to be done, but hop on with a friend and you might have a good time.

Angels Fall First

A hidden and very underrated early access gem from 2015, it reminds me a lot of Eternal-Silence (half life 2 abandoned mod) but better in every aspect. With the same style of infantry gameplay that Battlefield has, giving you a unique experience and cooperative play whether it's ground combat, space station combat or dogfights in space online or offline.

Sadly because it is a very underrated hidden gem it has low population of real human players but this doesn't mean that you can't play online or offline, because the AI is like the one in Titanfall but better because it does all it's tasks, it helps you when you ask it to, giving the game some life even if it is artificial.

In short: yes, it's worth it because of what it offers even if it is an early access

Everything Star Wars Battlefront should have been. Aside from the heavily cumbersome interface, there is a lot of content to unpack here. It's an fps, a starfighter game, a capital ship warfare game, and a largescale battlefield which you can have all of it happening together at once. Large battleships are manually controlled, and have full interiors that even display real damage incurred during battle to the point where shielded hull breaches even reveal to you what is going on outside! Maintain weapons and subsystems from being disabled, hop in a fighter, board enemy ships and space stations, the action is everywhere and never slows for a moment.

A different leveling system than other FPS.
Game mechanics that prevent combat spam.
Art that doesn't overstimulate but is still decent enough for a scifi game.
And an offline mode that lets you enjoy the game with competent AI.

This is one of the coolest games I have ever played. It takes the space fights from the OG Star Wars BF2 and ramps it up not to 11/10, but a fucking 20. The ground battles are similar to Planetside 2, but feel more balanced and less frustrating due to no pay-to-win mechanics, but each map also has unique phases of progression similar to how the Battlefield 1 + 5 move through Operations, but have different objectives as well, like destroyer radars or turrets, capturing LZ's, or hacking relay stations.

But the best moment I had, I was in a space battle, flying a corvette, and even those can be boarded! The Capital battleships during the fights aren't stagnant, they are actually controlled by the commander (or an AI) and can move and fight. But when my corvette was killed, I didn't just blow up and die, I had a chance to run to the hanger and launch a fighter to continue my fight. Sadly I was killed in the explosion as I was getting there, but oh my god I love this game. I recommend this 100/10 if you loved the OG Star Wars Battlefront II

I loved this game when I first played it, and still loved it when I stopped in 2018. No reason, I just moved on. This game, and style of game, has lived rent-free in my head that entire time and I just realised that there are new updates?! And people are playing it?!

So, this game. Old school Battlefront 2, but with more features and expanded to still be appealing enough on modern systems with a gritty near-future skin over everything instead of Star Wars. Its insanely fun to stomp bots, and I fondly remember 1v1ing my friend in bot matches and barely being able to tell who he was as the battlefield ebbed and flowed in push and defence.

Can't wait to see where this game goes, and I'm going to buy the soundtrack to give the devs a little more cash.

Battlefront if it was made on Unreal3

zhoufengrong
zhoufengrong

Originally an Unreal Tournament mod, nearly 15 years of development have made this an enjoyable objective-based team vs team game. Two teams of up to 32 players and bots battle on the ground, in space stations, and in fighter craft to capture objectives, either holding them (Territories game mode) or assaulting/defending them in sequence (Incursion mode). You can modify your loadouts to an impressive degree, from the paint on your guns to the missiles on your spacecraft.

You have three ratings to grind: Combat, Support, and Command. These don't unlock weapons. Instead, you have access to everything from the start, but have a budget that increases with your ratings. From the start, you may only be able to equip a standard assault rifle and grenades. Within a few levels, you can add incendiary rounds to your rifle, or carry a medkit, or load your grenades with acid. There's a lot of room to experiment and find a style you enjoy.

No tutorials for a rather complex game. I spent most of my time reading guides, out of game. When I re-entered, I quickly found reason to re-access the guide. I've played games with steep learning curves before, like EVE and X3 and X4, I'm a BR 100 in Planetside 2, so I get the concept. Just basic things like "Where am I on the map?", "How do I make that AI get in my vehicle" and "Where is the objective, while I'm in my vehicle?" shouldn't require constant referral to an external guide. Bottom Line-Lack of Tutorials=Refund requested.

Glad to see this alive again, heard whispers of an update and remained hopeful. It feels it really can only come into fruition with a decent player base personally. Its still a fairly solid solo experience and while it has very slowly progressed, it has by a large margin since first playing.

I can understand why i never heard of this game the gun play is crap, the vehicles are squishy as hell i mean i want to be at least a little nervous when i see a mech there is no community, the ai is dumb as a bunch of rocks. Over all is feels like it should be a F2P game because even 20 is to much and i know its from back in 2015 but with is still being updated in 2022 it should be a lot better then it actually is. Good concept but horrible execution.

It's been a while since I had this much fun playing an FPS game and Angles Fall First gave me an awesome experience. Don't let the dead player base fool you because this game have a singleplayer mode and going against bots is just as fun as going against players. Angels Fall First does a lot of things better than Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) in my opinion. There are two game modes incursion and territories. They both have ground and space combat. Incursion is a better version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 COOP mode. Angels Fall First Attack and Defend Mode is pure chaos. Territories are Star Wars Battlefront 2 conquest mode where you have to capture territories from A to F. Playing ground and space combat is intense but space combat is amazing. The maps are beautiful and the best part is you can fly a freaking capital ship and have an intense space battle against an enemy capital ship. If you get a transport ship you can board an enemy capital ship to destroy it on the inside. Weapon customization is awesome because you have a lot of options to customize your class. For example, you can turn your SMG into an LMG with incendiary rounds but you have to maintain your loadout because there is a cost system where it restricts how much stuff you can have in your loadout.

In the ready-up room, you will spawn in either ULA or AIA briefing room. What is cool about this is you can explore to go to the shooting range room to test out the weapons, but in the briefing room your Adminiral will explain each map you play to inform you of the situation in incursion mode in space or ground combat. It gives the maps a reason why you should care about either attacking or defending the base because each map plays a big role in the galactic war.

This game isn't perfect. There need to be some bug fixes and optimization. Overhaul changes with weapon recoil and improve the weapon animations. I do respect Strangely Interactive Ltd taking their time making this game instead having a company rushing them for a 2 or 3 years deadline. I can tell they are passionate about this game with the amount of effort they are putting in.

If you have played the classic Star Wars Battlefront 2, then you are going to have a lot of fun with this game. I hope they add in a third-person mode because that would be awesome. There are some things I have left in this review and it's best you buy this game and experience what this game can offer.

Gunplay is clunky. EVERY gun has a insane amount of recoil an no matter what attachments you put on that say they will decrease recoil... they dont.

Love seeing a new spark of life return to this game since the Dev's are back in action.

The beauty of this game its like a perfect blend of:
Classic Star Wars Battlefronts / MAG (ps3) / Planetside 2.

If your a fan of any of those games then you HAVE to give this a try!
The customisation on Load-outs is Incredible, The Space Battles are so sick you can board an enemy Capital ship via Dropship, Blow the insides of that sucker then eVac the hell outta there using one of their own docked fighters..

Think back to ye halcyon days of Unreal Tournament and Team Fortress. Think about what you wanted that combat to be, on the grandest scale.
Think about the tactical fun you thought you were going to have with Arma.
Angels Fall First delivers on both.
The graphics are chunky and the UI is...janky (to be polite), but get past those and you'll have a grand time waging science fiction war in every role from rifle-toting grunt to mech pilot to battleship captain.
Solo play against bots is challenging and fun, and co op PvE is even better.
I am stoked to have found it, stoked to have bought it, and even more stoked to see where the devs take it.

I heard about this game from a friend while it was on sale for $8 and its definitely addictive, chaotic and pulls from many games I've enjoyed like this in the past. Planet Side, Colony Wars, Battlefield, Call of Duty and makes a wonderful orchestra of all those titles makes it a new IP with a fresh spin on many elements from the standard models in a new, invigorating way. Keep updating and I'll keep hyping. Going to get this for my kids at full price so MORE PLEASE. :)

My first impression with this game was that I was very confused, and didn't know what to do, while I got my ass kicked. This almost made me refund the game within the first two hours, because I wasn't having fun.
I would say the new player experience of this game at the time of writing is pretty awful.
If I wasn't playing with friends, I might have never gotten to the part where I started to understand the game enough to start enjoying it, especially the Space Battles.
The more I played the game, the more I could see that quite a lot of passion went into this, and not only is it not a bad game, it's actually pretty good.

That this game is made in Unreal Engine 3 is something I see and feel on almost every corner, it makes it feel clunky and at times uncomfortable to play. If you can see past that, you're likely to find an enjoyable game here.

Feels like what we wanted a Battlefront 3 to be before EA butchered the series with whatever the new games were supposed to be. As someone who played the early Battlefront games practically 24/7 this is exactly what the Reboot should have been I've always loved gamed where you can fly a capital ship and run around inside (X4 Foundations is pretty good for that) but this game takes that even further making boarding actions possible.

As of this writing, the game simply isn't worth buying, especially not for $20. The player base, within the past 30 days, averaged LESS THAN 3 players. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the less-than-handful of players were the developers themselves, because I couldn't see much reason to play a dead game. The only saving grace the game has is the bot support. However, don't expect much out of them. They're not very bright.

But it is a shame, because what's on display here has a ton of wasted potential. Imagine Battlefield combined with the mid-2000s Battlefronts, and you get a good overall picture. Except the space combat is somehow even more fleshed-out than Battlefront, allowing full control of capital ships and frigates, as well as being able to traverse the insides of the bigger ships for boarding combat. The weapons themselves are also rich in variety, quirkiness, and overall sci-fi appeal.

Still, none of that matters. The devs would need to not only finish the game, but then pull out all the stops marketing wise to secure even a barebones player base. No one wants to play a dead game, and anyone who glances at the Steam Charts will immediately discount the game from purchase.

Still worth a buy if you are into offline games but the ai is very stupid sometimes. Mainly when it comes to some maps and specific objectives. You still have unlockables offline and it can be very fun but the battles on most maps are unbalanced and a bit one sided. It's a shame really. This feels like Planetside 2 offline, the game itself is pretty fun once you understand whats going on. sometimes it feels like some bots are picking on you, but once you understand the map layout is pretty much fun. I'm giving this a thumbs up even though quick death games like this are not my cup of tea. What the devs have made here is an incredibly solid foundation for a potentially outstanding SP experience. All the assets are there; AI (and, for that fact, a really decent one), fantastic 3D models, great visual and sound effects.
I'm really hoping that devs at some point will add a SP campaign like most games of this sort (looking at Battlefield) have.
Pros
- AAA graphics
- AAA 3D models
- AAA sound effects
- solid foundation for potential great fun with friends if I had any (there unfortunately are hardly any human players, fortunately the AI bots are capable enough)
- progression in form of unlockable upgrades, weapons through points

CONS
- the space fights which I thought should be the highlight of this game kinda suck; objectives are not highlighted enough, same goes for enemy icons. In the heat of the battle it is virtually impossible to find your way to target
- there doesn't seem to be a way to target next enemy, only enemy in crosshairs
- captial ships are absolutely frustrating to fly and fight with
- the usual "something is shooting at me but I have not the slightest idea of who or what", kind of a negative common to all Battlefield-like (no idea how that type of game is called) games and one of the reasons why I don't like them

Ganymedian

This can be a very fun game, but the weapons are severely over powered when taking down vehicles and there is some confusion on armor and weapons used on armor. I was using a weapon that was supposed to be used for light armor. how ever did not seem to dent a small mech at all. I am sure balancing and everything will come later. but a dam rifle should not so easily take down a gun ship. gun ship is useless lol for now

A Bad Case Of The Break Ups!
A Bad Case Of …

So this game is pretty fun. The combat is relatively well balanced (there are some cheesy moves you can pull on some maps to win instantly, but not on most maps), however it does have its kinks. The space combat is very fun and rewarding (though it may feel a little close at first), the infantry combat is pretty brutal and can be fast paced or slow depending on your style. The vehicle combat can leave a little to be desired sometimes, but it is still a pretty fun addition to the game.

Now those are the good reasons. It is a fun game to play, even in single player. Here however are the pitfalls:
The game IS in "active" development. I am on the official discord, and the devs are active there. It is however a passion project so it is not updated as regularly as mainstream titles.
The devs do listen to the community when it comes to bugs, however they do seem relatively hesitant to add features or tweak existing features on community input (they will to suit their own purposes, but I have yet to witness them positively acknowledge community feedback for new features).
The game will likely not be out of early access for quite some time, despite being a (pretty much) finished game. This is annoying, and I understand their reasons to keep it in early access, but it should not stay in early access for over five years, even if it is a passion project.

To sum it up: its a fun game, however it does have its quirks. Don't expect full matches until it releases fully (outside of community events), and by buying this game you are really at the dev teams mercy.

Gatling Tank

It's a cool game, kinda planetside 2 but for people with no friends.
In terms of online, yes it's kinda dead but if you keep giving it bad ratings you'll only be killing it more!

Besides, the bots are actually pretty good and competent at completing objectives and using vehicles.
(BTW, THE DEVS HAVE NOT ABANDONED THE GAME, AS THEY'RE STILL TWEAKING IT EVERYDAY. This said, it still would be nice to have a SITREP on what's up lately :P)

It's like a spritual successor to Battlefield 2142. Dev support and the multiplayer scene are both dead, but what's there is decent and the bots are good enough sometimes I forget they're bots.

Edit: The devs have not abandoned the game they just don't publish updates to the patch they're working on. They are quite active on their discord.

This game is the absolute BEST All Out war game I've ever played. It's not as open as planetside 2, but is extremely better in terms of paying to win. In this game, its all about skills and knowledge. For example, a veteran player who knows what the best CQC gun is will absolutely shred every noob in close proximity why a noob might be shooting AT weapons at everyone. I give this game a 10/10 on the fun score, even though its mostly dead.

On a side note, the game has some bugs that aren't game breaking and don't ruin the fun. The best way to enjoy this game is to play with friends casually.

I wanted to like this game, my friend said it was good and it looked cool from the screenshot, but I just couldn't.

First the game is dead, you will be playing with bots and any friends that have this game, second the combat feels janky, no real weight to guns, boring shooting, confusing UI,etc. The original battlefront 2 has better combat mechanics. I feel like if I played this when it was originally Early Access I would've enjoyed it, but the game is over 5 years old and it's not finished and there are better shooters out there that cost less, bought this on a steam sale and still felt disappointed.

This is one of those games that I really recommend you wait for the game to actually come out.

It has one of the key problem of Early-Access: No timeframe for release, and they already have your money.

I bought this game when it first came out years ago, and while there has been progress over that time, no game should take over 5+ years to complete from its first playable build. Be patient, wait for the game to actually come out, and then give the devs your money. By this point, either the game will never come out and you'll save your money, or it will come out and then you can actually be the judge if it's worth the money or not.

This game is Fun. Even if the AI is clever and slightly dumb at times. The Gameplay is just GOOD. The Guns sound and feel great. It has the love-able amounts of Jank and the game looks great. The only thing that saddens me is that this game isnt talked about enough Nor does it have enough players

Archon

A stellar game that takes the FPS genre and finally proves that there is more to it than just repeating the same shooter mechanics many long time gamers have grown tired of.

If you've ever wondered to yourself "Wow, I really wish all these cool vehicles and bases in ____ scifi game were actually walkable instead of just being pilotable objects" then this game is for you. Ditto if you enjoy old school shooters like Unreal Tournament 2000 and Battlefield 2142 (not the new one.).

Couple this with a versatile selection of customization options, real time damage in 32v32 matches with massive ships duking it out in space with capital ships, fighters, and also boarding actions and you get the idea of why this game is still ahead of it's time compared to modern releases like Call of Duty (Insert title or number here.) and Battlefield 2042 despite actually being a sequel to a very old mod.

If this isn't enough to explain why you should at least check this game out, then consider this: Have you ever played a scifi game, seen a massive capital ship, and said to your self "Wow, I wish I could board this, walk around inside of it, man the turrets, heck, even use the hangar bay or sabotage and destroy it from within!"? Well, this is the game where you can do all of that.

Just be prepared to get to a fighter or escape pod before the whole thing goes nuclear with you inside of it.

And that's not all. There are intricate ground combat scenarios with vehicles, station assault scenarios, a city siege that wouldn't look out of place in WH40K, fleet battle scenarios (Check the maps carefully, some of them have an absurd number of ships.), and your usual assortment of capture the point/tdm/etc, etc.

There's even crazy stuff like a Bespin-esque assault on a platform (complete with dog fighting with aircraft and gun runs on the platform if you're clever enough and get access to an aircraft instead of being part of the ground assault) in the atmosphere of what appears to be a gas giant.

Now there is a downside. It's a labor of love, meaning it doesn't have a fast development speed, and it has been in EA for -quite- awhile. So players are incredibly thin to the point of not being there. The AI is serviceable and can even pose a challenge by itself however. There is also a fairly advanced command and control system where you can act as commander or leader of a squad with special powers, with the AI fully capable of using it on their own.

COVID also seems to have put development on hiatus, though according to the forums apparently the next update is mostly waiting for polishing to come out. Prior to COVID however, we were getting new scenarios and maps with new mechanics to boot. Couple this with the fact that it is a labor of love by a small dev team and delays have taken place. So long as they haven't abandoned the game however I can't really hold this against them.

TL;DR: If you're a fan of old school Battlefield games, war game shooters in general, or just wish one of the triple A developers would try to push the genre to the next level already instead of cashing in on a sequel then pick this up and check it out.

Absolutely underappreciated gem. I don't much care for shooters, but this ticks all the boxes. Space battles, ground engagement, ship boarding, advanced customization, no microtransactions...

Very cool concept, have had this game for a long time, this game has not had an update in going on 2 years (July, 2020.) Game is basically abandonware from the looks of it, but it is playable. Look up gameplay from 2020 and thats how its going to be, due to it still being EA and hasn't been updated in 2 years I'm going to say no but I'd be glad to change the review.

I've been following this project since way back when it was a Homeworld Mod;
Back in those days you had to be on the relic forums to keep up and it was a better time I'd say:

BUT this game IS a full game, they've gone from modders to making a game thats honestly rather fun;
I personally hope the devs keep chipping away as this game could be something if it was shown to the wider world; In a time with Bf2042 being such a horrific shamble and this game sitting with really 4x level complex map design it goes to show big funding doesn't make it better, but I'm sure it would make it easier on the team;

Honestly if you are looking for a interesting shooter give this a go, gather some pals and find a server or make one; Its worth it.

Gameplay is really complex but easy to understand and I can think if you had teams of human players it would be a damn blast

bugs: no game breaking bugs that i have experience (I have experienced a single visual bug, were my ship did not render during the deploy warp scene)
game play: good, can get boring after a couple of rounds when just playing with bots (I would not recommend the territory game mode, unless you like the control point of cod)
visuals: not outstanding to modern day fps, but decent.
performance: I have never experienced and frame drops
originality: the experience is nothing new, but it has that nostalgic feel of big battle fps (such as battlefield 2142 [old]) which i miss from current day games.

Believe it or not, despite going without updates for nearly two years, this game is still in development with the last devlog announced 2 April 2022! You can see it on the AFF discord. However, I will say that this game is in development at the speed of smell. That said, what is presented is an excellent game and one of the best Battlefield/Enemy Territory competitors out there. Angels Fall First is set apart from the crowd by a cool sci-fi setting, fully custom loadouts, massive space battles with player controlled line ships, and a diverse set of maps. If you're looking to hop into a large multiplayer server, you're probably not going to find one. This game does not have a large playerbase and most people who do play do so in a co-op environment against the AI. Thus, any PvP-centric players may be dissuaded. However, if you're looking to play solo vs. AI or co-op vs. AI, it provides a good experience.

Angels Fall First is a cool game, especially if you're looking for something to fill the void that Enemy Territory left or Battlefield cannot muster anymore. Even as a singleplayer or co-op experience, it's one of the best on the market.

Complicated as all hell to get into with amazingly un-intuitive control and UI decisions, however, this all becomes clear after spending an hour with a guide in a half window and perseverance most definitely pays off, as the design CONCEPT is grandiose and an absolute gem of an experience.

Playing solo with bots is an option that works relatively well, but the real gem is getting online during peak and joining a throng of screaming soldiers leaping between capital ships engaged in crossfires trying to bring down boarding parties before they swarm the control deck forcing captains to abandon posts and engage in firefights in their own corridors.

Fighter, bomber, grunt, squad leader, medic....it's all in here and you can live swop as the situation dictates.

This is easily one of the best games I have ever bought. It is essentially what BF2 SHOULD have been in terms of it's balanced gameplay, striking visuals, and amazing locales...oh and there are no IAPs... this FPS is an amazing game that even though the servers are almost never full, never ceases to amaze, the bots are damn good. The dev really cares about this game, and after 2 years we finally get a MASSIVE update! it's a very fun experience that everyone should at least try out, because Steam is sorely lacking in good sci-fi games like this one, the gameplay works, the art is to die for, the music is nice, and the graphics are good on any setting; in short run out and grab this immediately!!!

To be frank, the players mostly consist of an elite few, devs included. If you want to play this game, you will have to learn quick to keep up. Fortunately, it plays a lot like the Battlefield series, using combined arms combat in a futuristic setting. The skill ceiling isn't all that high either. Progression primarily consists of 3 stats, in which the more you use them, the more they grow. Not a grind-fest either, but you do have to put in some work for better stats. Other than that, all around it's really good! Haven't played much due to lower player counts and a presumed hiatus from the devs, but they've been very busy, as it turns out, working on the newest update. Buy it and play it so I can have more people to play with other than the relatively competent AI. K thx bye.

Don't take the "thumbs up" as an automatic recommendation. This is a complex one to review.

First things first: If you're just looking for another of the countless multiplayer FPS games you can jump into a lobby and hurl mom insults at people in, just exit out and go pick literally anything else. You're not going to find an online match.

However, if you grew up with Battlefront 2 (2005 version), and were immensely annoyed by what EA did in 2015 and 2017, you're going to love this.

Yes, the online is dead. However, the gameplay is so derivative of BF2 2005 that this is basically what the reboots should have been. It's a closer spiritual successor in every way. Did you like space fights in Instant Action where you'd try to either attack the capital ship from the outside or break in and sabotage it from within? Yeah, that's here but 100x more fleshed out and exciting. Pilot the capital ships, enjoy fully-armed star fighters, man a corvette for a bit more oomph. Did you like loading up a 64-bot match and enjoying large scale ground battles that got hectic as all get out? Yup, but now the gunplay is a lot smoother, the bots a lot smarter, and there are more vehicles to mess with.

The game really only differs in a few small, yet significant, ways. First, it's not Star Wars...obviously. However, the AFF universe is really well designed, and from what I hear, there is accompanying lore online (I'll definitely be diving into that). You don't end up missing stormtroopers and Jedi or anything like that, and the spirit of the gameplay is there. Then, you have the loadout system. No more classes with predesigned loadouts and appearances. You can set all that up however you like as long as you stay within the point allotment given.

I can't just praise it, though. There are one or two things I don't like. First, vehicles are treated like killstreaks from other games. They're not just sitting around on the map for some reason. If you want to fly a corvette in space, you have to earn it (fighters are available since you'd have no way around otherwise). If you want to pilot a mech on the ground, earn it. Tank? Earn it. I'd prefer if at least some minor vehicles were available from the get-go on the ground. Then, the game's not explained well. I got into a ground match and understood it immediately. My first space fight was atrocious as I struggled to figure out what to do. Give it a half hour or so, and you'll figure out the basics and then some. Also, I'd like full controller support.

If you liked playing Instant Action back in the day, and you've been itching for a new experience with that rare type of gameplay, this is worth every single penny. It's the same game you loved but upgraded about as much as humanly possible, and if it had the Star Wars license, it would be the perfect Battlefront game. If you want to play with other people, get competitive, and all that jazz, you're just wasting your time.

I typically wait at least 20+ hours to review something, but this needs to get out there. The negative reviews from people who clearly want more online multiplayer nearly prevented me from picking this up. I'm glad I watched a couple vids and chose to try it, because for an old Instant Action junky like myself, this is a dream come true.

So I don't normally write reviews on games, but I thought I should for this one...

IN short Is great combat experience without too much needed to pickup controls and play, just simple destructive fun!

It sad the community has died while development had paused but I hope it does spark again, there so much more portentials this game still can gain.

The concept of going from fighter to boarding actions to Runn capital ships to even ground combat all fun and dynamic

SO let get to more focus points...
Pros:
- pilot, fight and gun down thing how you choose
- Lot of customize and fair amount of content
- Running on Unreal 3, run smooth well and still look good in direct X11 mode.

Cons:
- No real tutorial at this point, it's fairly simply to peice that controls together if played any FPS. BUt some more advanced functions not so easy to find
- Missing some features that you would thing that should be, like some the fighter ships with multiple primary weapons slot, you thing could link them or like having you primary gun firing as you lock on for missle attack.
- Some control are clunky in default, but control are customizable.

Alot of the cons mainly are things yet to be review address while grame stil in development

Frankly weather you go at it solo on offline server or get couple friends to team up, it solid fun and wroth checking out.

Updates might be few and far between, but it's not abandoned. Everything I loved about BF2142 (the old one that was good) but without the EA stank. Bots are plenty hard enough to keep me enjoying the game even when servers are not full.

Shok'NAw
Shok'NAw

Ok. I played this back in my alternate account back in 2017 or so, and loved every single minute playing. The customizeability is insane. The space battles are real time and flow beautifully. Mechanics have depth (sometimes a bit much, no tutorial), but are easy-to-learn, hard-to-master. AI feel complex and act like other players should. Are updates frequent? No. Do they update what needs to be updated and take the time to do it right? YES. Ignore the reviews by those wanting a new season of Fortnite or whatevs every time they log on. The devs love this game and will not overpromise or deliver half-baked content. If you value quality of mechanics over filler content, get this game. If you just want to content grind a game with average mechanics, go play Warframe (another game I love for different reasons).

TL;DR
Follow your tastes: This is a good game that puts quality over quantity of content. That should tell you everything.

Mr.Kill
Mr.Kill

The only downsides to the game are the limited player counts meaning that match quality suffers because high performance players end up on one team while low performance players end up on the other. Nothing ruins any game faster than curbstomp matches where one side keeps dying and the other ends up spawn camping. Not helping matters are that the game has two modes, territory where its a lot harder to spawn camp the enemy team and force a total lockout and incursion (aka Rush from battlefield or Assault from EA's battlefront) where one side is the attacker and one side is the defending them trying to accomplish different and varied objectives. Incursion is the only mode where you will go from space to ground combat in a single session (i.e attack the defense platforms then blow open the hatches, dock dropships and engage in ground combat to hack data terminals) but typically the maps favor the defending side while giving the attack team few advantages (usually something material like getting a lineship instead of a corvette or tanks while the defending team gets IFV only). These advantages are rarely impressive (your team needs to earn points to earn your vehicles, points they won't be getting because they're getting funneled into kill boxes and their spawn points are much further away compared to the defenders so each death hurts the push a lot more) so its not rare for the attacker team to stall at the first objective and it is pretty much the norm for the attacking team to be unable to take the last objective if they ever get that far.

The game's got space battles, boarding and capital ships that you can actually fly. On the ground, its got scout vehicles, IFVs, tanks, gunships and mechs (kinda like battlesuits). You can take command of your forces and give them general suggestions on where they should go and what they should be doing (i.e assign them to a objective, they know what to do once you do that). There's also commander abilities that you can cast, a scan to reveal all enemies in range, a hack to debuff all enemies in range or an area shield to block all enemy fire in that area (enabling a good push).

There is a large variety of weapons and the best part is all can be equipped and fully kitted out at the start of the game. The catch is that newbie players will have loadout limits far smaller than players who have grinded their levels. This simply just means you can still have your awesome machine gun with ultra cooling, incendiary rocket noob tube and sniper scope; but you won't have a secondary gun, no grenades and no medkits or ammo boxes. The no grenades part kinda hurts but not having medkits or ammo boxes rarely matters because with 1 or 2 support level upgrades you'll be able to have them + your gun (this will easily happen within an hour of gameplay if you use the leveling spec module on your armor or if you decide to not have an ultra cool gun, stick with the regular and carry a ammobox, throw the box into bots who just shot people and level up massively)

It's a great game, the devs just have been very passive and constantly perfectionist in how they develop the game and when they think its ready for release. They're running a player survey right now to see if they should finally drop the Early Access. I think they should. If the match quality is being awful, you can always simply play singleplayer as the bots are quite good at the game (although they do have some quirks like humping objectives they don't need to hump or not being too effective when attacking hardpoint aka objectives that require you to shoot them) and progression still counts.
