It's so much fun to hop between shadows and sneak around the enemies. Takes a lot more planning and patience if you want to kill all the bad guys or go completely unnoticed but that just adds a lot of replayability! I played the main story with a friend and we'll definitely be playing the second one/any DLCs together :)

A fun, well-designed first-person stealth game with a good story!

PROS
- You get to play as a ninja!
- The controls are precise and the stealth mechanics are well-done, making good use of the
environments and the abilities that you unlock
- The shadow-based abilities themselves are really fun to use and will have you giggling like an evil maniac as you pull off multiple-assassinations xD
- The story is interesting and even though you’ll likely figure out where it’s headed at least halfway through the campaign, it still kept us engaged up until the climatic end
- I loved the intuitive design of your character where your currently-selected ability is shown on the back of your cloak, and the intensity of the colours denotes whether or not you have enough shadow-power to cast it
- You can play through the entire story campaign with a friend, which is what I did, and I highly
recommend it! You can get into so many hilarious situations with a friend where one of you has been seen and now you’re both scrambling away from the patrols heading your way, laughing the entire time :D

CONS
- I initially tried to play Aragami about a year and a half ago but the game would crash every time I tried to load

Stealth game with typical progression system where the more skills you unlock the more fun it gets, so bear in mind that during the beginning. Story kinda has its charms where it keeps you playing. The first boss is nice but the second boss during chapter XII is OMG when will it be over. I appreciate it for what it did but left without wanting more so won't be playing the DLC or the sequel.

Original mechanics. Story is somewhat interesting but convoluted. There are several quirks that could be improved. It is a pain that co-op does not allow resurrecting your companion.

This game would be excellent *IF* shadow jumping wasn't so fucking janky or auto-save was 1000x more often. Holy christ.

Played this with one of my best friends. We had a very good time. It was challenging and made us feel like super ninjas. The mechanics are very unique and there are different abilities for different playstyles.

The game isn't super polished but you can tell the devs made it with a lot of love and passion.

Edit: I will note that this game does not have a lot of replay value unless you're trying to 100% the game in my opinion.

I marginally recommend this game. For stealth game lovers this was made for you. You can try to stealth kill your way through the chapters, or ghost your way for extreme challenge. The main problem though are the shadow mechanics. It is either broke or simply underbaked and often leaves much to be desired. It does not use actual shadow rendering, and instead the developers obviously manually placed every spot you can cast your shadow skills in. But they missed a bunch of spots, which look totally dark but you often cannot use a skill or shadow leap. where it looks like you should. Also the story and dialogue are extremely boring. And all the guards move so slow and have very limited patrol routes. If you can get passed these issues, there is still plenty of fun to be had with the stealth aspect.

A good, straightforward puzzle-stealth game that's even better with a friend. Less complicated than Styx but still engaging, it's a nice game to play a chapter at a time and just sorta chill with.

It's a satisfying stealth game that can be frustrating at times but still well worth checking out. The story was better then I expected.

A beautiful and well made game, Aragami is great for if you are a big fan of stealthy ninja-like games. This particular game stands out due to having a focus on shadow magic being used in play and it's story alone would make it highly recommendable. If you have some spare time, cash, and enjoy yourself a bit of stealth, I'd say give it a try.

A good game-play and mechanics is always a something to look for in a game, but when they are combined with a deep and touching story that moves the feelings, that what makes a great game, and Aragami is a great game indeed.

Beautifully designed game. I love that you are literally a shadow warrior which just adds to the stealth game play. It's very playable with a great story-line. I wish there would have been side quests or more interactivity on the side, so that you can steer of the main story line and play for hours. If there is an update to this that's great. I played it a long time ago ..

Very nice game, good graphics, looking forward to the next game. Onl wish it had a "Save Anywhere" function like they do in Styx, Styx 2, Sniper Elite 3, Sniper Elite 4. Sniper Elite 5, Dishonored 1, 2 3, etc... There is no reason why a game created in the last 5 years or so should not have this function. Hundreds of games have it...

I got to play the old prototype version when it was called Path of Shadows back in 2014 when I did a lets play channel (not linking that video because it is pretty cringe lol). It was a much different game back then; Getting to see this as a full game (plus DLC and a sequel) is really satisfying. I highly recommend this game if you played that prototype or just like stealth/ninja games. Lots of fun skills to mess with, the enemy AI is just stupid enough to let you be a badass, but is also smart enough to keep you on your toes. The level design is excellent, and there are a number of ways you can clear a level, it's really up to you and your own personal style. 8/10 Solid stealth game.

This is more of a technical review at this point as I haven't played enough to give a real opinion of the game so far. I do wish there were room codes or something to make joining ppl on different consoles easier.

Cutscenes don't play on the steamdeck out of the box with the linux version, needed to use the windows version with proton ge to get them to look correct.

Beautifully-written story (although we cracked the main mystery after chapter 3). The only negative part is pretty simple and repetitive game play, but it was still interesting to open up new skills and try them.

Pretty fun co-op experience. Getting the undected medal on some maps was a hazzle due to wonky autosaves so beware. Definitely worth getting on a sale.

Aragami might be a little rough around the edges, but it's a fantastic stealth game with an extremely enjoyable core mechanic. Jumping from shadow to shadow adds a whole dimension to how you traverse the levels.

S33
S33

Very fun gameplay loop, everything feels very sleek and nice and it feels like how I would imagine being a ninja/assassin would be, but what do I know. The mausoleum was by far my favourite level with the harbour being a distant second. The story wasn't great but it did give plausible reason to do what you're doing so that's fine I guess. I would have liked the fact the if the aragami got touched by sunlight they would evaporate to be explored more, maybe have them hide in a cave or such. Despite the story's mediocrity the plot twist at the end did genuinely surprise me.

Spoilers

Yamiko being the supposed goddess trapped didn't really shock me but her being the shadow empress and aragami being Ryo really did, I don't know if I'm just gullible though.

It's such a simple game yet its so deep and complex, quite stimulating! It's so fun trying out strategies and methods which also lends to the games re-playability! Great game! Now I'm not gonna lie some parts are kinda janky and glitchy, but honestly I personally think it adds to the charm! highly recommend to everyone that likes stealthy and puzzle games!

carki

The game is promising due to its cool stealth system. However, the lack of manual save system makes the gameplay tedious. I'm a fan of stealth games, and the ones I've played let you manually save. Sometimes the number of saves is limited and only in the hardest difficulties you are unable to save. Saving is important to allow the player to experiment and explore the map, but having to restart again and again and again is boring.

This made remember hitman absolution. With the use of checkpoints you were constantly discouraged to explore and the only way to continue was to push forward.

A decent game with a really cool stealth mechanic and story that could be extremely interesting if I had any idea what was actually going on. The world building is still solid, as is the ambient music and background noise. I also like little things, like guards who complain about being on guard duty and stretch when they think no one is looking.

4.3/10 ( WELL BELOW AVERAGE GAME/ NOT WORTH THE TIME )

well before talking about the game i should mention that i am a stealth fanatic and have been a fan of the old skool tenchu games and games like hitman, dishonored, blades of shogun, deus ex etc etc. So i am harsh while judging a stealth game, especially a game this highly rated.

Since there was no successor to the tenchu games, i thought to myself that this highly positively rated ninja stealth game might scratch the itch.
And i am sorry to say that as much as i was hypped , i was underwhelmed and disappointed. its a big phat NO NO from me any day, anytime.

why??
Heres a number based grading for the peeps who dont have time to read long phoken essays

gameplay - 3.5/10
narrative - 1/10
graphics - 8/10
sound/music - 6/10
x factor/charm- 3/10

in avg-4.3/10 ( WELL BELOW AVERAGE GAME/ NOT WORTH THE TIME )

cons- stiff control- i just cant point the finger to it but something about the control feels hella off, as if i am fighting with myself and the controller to properly allign aragami and the camera.

lack of manual save/quicksave- i have played dishonored, blades of shogun, hitman for countless of hours and i acknowledge the fact that "SAVE SCUMMING" waters down the experience as well as brings down the skill level by many nothces aka makes the game way easier. So i see the reason why they opted for no manual saves. But instead of totally removing saves what they should have done is - no 'quick saves' ,2-3 manual saves every chapter. This way we wont be breaking our joysticks every time we abuse the ai and the enemy ai does the unaccepted.

Water bodies SUCKKKK- i get it, he is a shadow essence and any form of light destroys him but what is it with water bodies. it doesnt matter where u are at a chapter, just by tip toeing at a waterbody cause the whole chapter to reset. U can see the frustrations especially when there is no manual saves and u happen to touch a water body at the terminal of a chapter.

the contrast between shadow and light is not consistant- its not a con but a nitpick. often i couldnt distinguish between dark and bright spots. later i mitigated the problem from the colour of the hood.

Very limited and less than basic skill trees- the skill tree is barebones and very easy to obtain and very few skills do vary the gameloop and makes it more engaging.

AI- the AI at 3 SKULLS was palitable but immersion breaking. guards watching three of their friends getting sucked into void(shinen) and not even getting alerted, let alone responding heavily ruins the immersion and waters down the experience.

bland environment and level design- the level design is sooo meh and basic(except for chapter 9 to 13) , that a basic person like me seems acidic to the universe. no complex design, no "REAL" multiple approaches/entrances, very few opportunities offer verticality and if there was a vertical platform, it would be brighly litted, so very few regardless.

music and sound- japanese score on a game easily bumps up the quality of a game by 3 to 4 notches but here local music were far and few. yes there often was ambient noises of foxes howling and etc but its so far inbetween that ambient noise is pseudo non existent. also rarely music were used in cutscenes.

enemy-the variety of enemy is sooo phoken limited. YOu got brute and archers. THATS ALL!!!!!. later in the last 4 chapters they introduce brutes with light orb but it does not do jack sheit to change up the loop or system, basically they introduced brutes with cosmetic light orb which offers zero functionality other than being a cosmetic ting.

well if its that bad then why have u played it? why didnt you uninstall it?

because it does have some qualities worth talking about but they are ""NOT REDEEMING"" qualities.

what this game did well-
-chapter 8 and 9 were fun to me because of the change of the setting and introduction to rooftops. it gave me the vibes of fatal shadows
-12th chapter was interesting and if not the best chapter since they switched up the system and introduced lightning and thunder. these thunders would come and go and they would get rid of darkspots, shadows aka hiding places as a result us the players would be exposed to enemies and get spotted instantly.
so this mechanic always did keep me on my toes.

game length- well u can easily squeeze at least 25 hours+ out of it and if u are completionist , u can squeeze even more than that.
so you are definitely getting your moneys worth.

Trash game. Prepare to die a lot, have guards see you from impossible distances through walls,& experience delicious game bugs like losing your save data or remapping your controls at random with no way to change them. What a füĉkîñĝ pîšš poor stealth game.

WASTED POTENTIAL

The concept is pretty cool at glance, cool mechanic, decent character design
BUT the controls feel very clunky, i also had a hard time with key configs, imagine having a controller on your hand but you still need to use your mouse to be able to config said controller, the animation is bad and souless, character feels so slow even when you run (or maybe im to used with Sekiro's movement), combat system also kind of boring with one-shot thingy.

Overall 3/10 not recommended, atleast until this review is still here.

Jimdividualist
Jimdividualist

This is a fun little game with a solid concept and I appreciate the effort put into it, but I can't in good faith give it a positive review because it feels more like a demo or a proof of concept than an actual finished game. And the asking price is way too high for what it is.

The main idea is "Can we take dishonord's blink and stretch it out to a full game?" And the answer is... maayyybe? The core idea behind the game is solid, you can blink to shadows, your energy recharges in shadows, is stable on moonlight, and drains near actual light and you can expend it to blink or create shadows but the problem is that I just described the entire gameplay loop.

The game never really evolves beyond "Wait for enemy to be alone, make shadow behind enemy, blink behind enemy, kill enemy with long drawn out stilted animation, rinse repeat 200 times per mission." if you go violent route and If you go the ghost route you just blink in a straight line to your destination.

There's very little tactics or variety, the level design is uninspired at best and there's only 2 enemies (brutes and archers) to deal with.

The game is supposed to make you feel like a shadow ninja saying you can "become the perfect assassin" but you can't even jump, there's no parcour, no mantling or any real mobility, and the only way to kill enemies is with longer drawn out stilted animations from front or behind, so there's no real flow or satisfaction to it either.

Its a solid idea I'd love to see explored at one point, but this really isn't it. The game definitely looks better than it is and it has great presentation with a fun artstyle and truly great music, but once you've seen the trailer you've basically experienced 99% of what the game has to offer.

I don't want to discourage the devs because the idea has potential and this game is a waste of it, but this review is negative purely for visibility reasons, if most reviews were negative this would be positive because the truth is I'm somewhere in the middle instead of loving or hating it.

tl;dr

Fun concept but this game is a waste of it. Mark of the ninja is cheaper and better.

Bought for myself and bought another copy as a gift for co-op play;
None of the cutscenes worked for either of us - background noise only, no visuals with just black screens
Things like dialogue continued in the background when tutorial screens popped up
With the above combined we didn't know what was going on progress and story-wise and didn't want to continue, so can't recommend

The gameplay and art of Aragami are fantastic. I WANT to like this game. But the checkpoint system is so broken that the game becomes all but unplayable as soon as even a hint of difficulty rears its head. Sneak through and complete a challenging section? Satisfying. Fall off a ledge two sections later because the movement controls don't work quite right and get dumped back to before the first section? No thanks.

BraveCancer
BraveCancer

While I really enjoy some of the cool concepts of this game, it really is just kind of a proof of concept at best. Many things do not feel polished and the game gets repetitive very quickly. I'd recommend the Aragami 2 though as it's a much more complete experience.

KoodieK
KoodieK

I love and hate this game. The game play is really awesome, the story is fantastic and keeps your attention. I also really enjoy the lore in the game. The reason I hate the game is nothing huge, the game is hard, but enough to make the game interesting. It really plays on your ability to fast plan attack and sneak from you enemies. If you're prone to Rage quite a game this is NOT the game for you.

Great game. Poor performance. I'm running an AMD 3600x and an RX 5700xt and the fans are running at full through many sections of the game. The graphics of this game should not be this demanding of the hardware.

Props to the indie studio for making something so consistently hood:
- Nice. simple non-buggy (looking at you AC and Styx) stealth
- Lovely OST. Really tied it all together
- Nice, varied level design
- Yeah, generic plot with lackluster writing but hey, they executed it well. That ending was perfect even if you catch it from a mile away

The biggest flaw would arguably be the lack of progression. It was enough for me but I can see people feeling abit stale with the same-y gameplay loop

Unique art style which provides more than just anime/cartoon aesthetic, the cel-shading also gives clear visual guidance to show you where the shadow is and where exactly you can hide. This game makes you feel like you are a real ghost when you're in the shadow 👍

The story is ok, the game mechanic is simple, and the difficulty is also relatively easy for me (even if I'm going for the hardest difficulty to get No Detection and No Kill seals). However, I find myself keep coming back to play more and to unlock all the skins, and the skins designs are definitely *chef's kiss* 🤌🤌🤌
