As a pixel art professional, I enjoy occasionally doing pixel art on Aseprite. Even though my main software is Adobe Photoshop, Aseprite has ready-to-use functions that make the work process smoother and better.
Sometimes I find myself, due to this, doing more interesting and nicer arts than I'd do on Photoshop. Especially tiling and sprite animations.
If you're low on budget and want an efficient, productive, and professional tool, my suggestion is Aseprite.
Check out some of my works at https://www.behance.net/danielmmafra and see the outcome. :)
If you make a lot of pixel art (like me) this is very helpful, especially if your making animations of pixel art
Absolutely worth the price.
Is a really fun pixel art animating program that also has many features that help you port your work into unreal engine and perhaps help you build 3D or 2D video games
As a big fan of Pixel art and a former flash animator, I love this program and did initially work on making my own version of pixelated TF2, only to later discover that gang garrison 2 exists, so I have abandoned the project since.
:P
I will admit I was hesitant about this program at first, however after using it for well more than I should have I must say that it is just about the greatest pixel art program out there. My one criticism might be that the price point does seem a little high. Definitely worth buying if you plan on making pixel art and have the money to spare!
Aesprite is my favorite pixel art application ever. It is so nice and it has so many features, it really jus feels like it's meant for pixel art. I have no regrets buying this, 10/10, would recommend :)
it let me upscale neco arc sprites
Amazing Pixel-Art software, Recommended for sure!
Don't know if there's any better than this in pixel art
I'm bad and this makes me feel good
very cool app. works very well making a very cool game using it. recommend it.
Very good application for pixel art
absolutely amazing pixel art program already; but the regional pricing in my country makes this incredible value for the tool you get
also PLEASE don't go the same way as adobe/etc, subscriptions are cringy
Now I have at least 200 hours on this but for some reason they weren't recorded. Anyhoo, this is hands down the best pixel art software i have ever used, the easy to use palette system, preset palettes, down to the ui are done to perfection. While the game dev oriented tile systems and autotile functions might not be the most useful for me, it has certainly proven useful for many developers. I wholeheartedly recommend aseprite to anyone wanting to get into or is experienced in pixel art. This is hands down the best 20 bucks i have ever spent.
I can't stress enough how good this pixel art software is
Excellent budget pixel art software!
Great pixel art software, with good attention to ergonomics and ease of use but nonetheless very powerful in knowing hands. Affordably priced for being a one time purchase.
helped me make racist propaganda(meme)
If you plan on getting into pixel art or want to upgrade from something like ms paint or paint.net you should think about getting Aseprite. It's a very easy to use, yet powerful software.
I give it about like 3-4 due to bmp. files not always openable, i reported a bug about this before. The only reason why I got this program was to edit sprites for games but now I am down... please apply a new feature that allows you to use bmp. files
still trying to figure out how to play as luigi
"Aseprite" is a great little piece of software!
If you are into Pixel Art, then this is the way to go! It is quite easy to learn and you get neat and encouraging results out of it very quickly.
That being said: Still no clue how to animate properly - for animation is a fascinating but i.m.o. somewhat elusive craft - however the animation tools in "Aseprite" seem intuitive and fun.
Lowkey the best
It's just the best pixel-art software, If you want the best this is it! take that as objective fact.
You may think it's just like others but expensive but NO, if you're looking to make pixel art, this is the only investment you need to make.
seems to be the best software available for pixel art and animation, combine with "pyxel Edit" for tile maps and whatever game engine you want and you are off to go.
For me, it is easy to use.I have used other graphic programs ,but Aseprite ,esp for the price, works good. i like how you can give evreything keyboard shortcuts.I like the lay out,i do not know what i dislike...i love the animating
Incredible software. Non-distracting interface, built-in color palettes, simple tools, advanced tools, and anything else you need for pixel art.
To whomever may want to know, the only way to beat Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation 1 is to plug in the player 1 controller into player slot 2. Or you can just defeat him like a crazy person and fight him without swapping controllers, I've never done it because I like enjoying my game, but I'm sure some people have.
Also Aseprite is pretty cool, it works like a charm. I recommend you get it if you want a program that won't crash every 5 minutes.
Very good art program for pixelart.
Overrated. Missing alot of QoL functions more developed apps have like being able to freely rotate the canvas.
Feels outdated. I keep checking in every once in awhile.
I do like its animation previewing and perfect pixel function.
I drew scary mario using thisd
good
Would recommend for the Dithering Gradient tool and Pixel Perfect brush settings alone. Those are the standout features for me.
It's pretty fantastic. You can get it for free by compiling it yourself, but like, that's annoying, and these guys do excellent work.
Very easy to create decent Gif with this
can express my emotions for peggle, do recommend
Incredibly useful for pixelart. A lot better than free options out there, and animation is the biggest help.
I suck at all things art. But you don't have to be good to realize why this is the gold standard for pixel art.
this is a very goddamn good software for pixelart and any other thing that it can do, love it
The smartest investment of mine in Steam
While I don't think it's quite worth $20, it's an incredible tool. It has so many unique features that I haven't seen anywhere else, and it really helps out, as someone who's really bad at pixel art. Fully recommend.
It has everything a pixel artist needs, highly recommend it. 100% more than worth its price.
it's easy to work and get use to it.
you can even create animation with it. blur is good tool to make shadows more smooth.
also have tones of color palette you can chose and work with.
It's really good at making pixel art with many tools. Great Software in general.
One of the best softwares when it comes to Pixel art! deffinitely reccomend
its definitely better than the trial version
makes my bad art look good.
10/10
Super awesome and practical, has all the functions i need
Probably the best sprite editor... perhaps ever. The workflow could be a little better. I find piskel to be a lot better in some ways regarding simplicity of workflow. This is better in many others.
500 hours on aseprite already, time flies !
Clearly my favourite drawing soft so far, even using it to do some light image editing.
A no-bullshit tool: It doesn't need half an hour to boot up and get the job done with a super cool -and easy to grasp- UI.
Can't wait for the next 500h !
its really complex for no fucking reason.
really easy to use
a lot of useful tools for pixel art
good app! π
Has more squares then Minecraft
The best program to make pixelart, totally worth it.
Easy to use with lots of tools well worth it
this is a silly program for only the silliest people
-leader of the silly committee
Fantastic little program that's worth every penny.
Amazing software for creating any pixel art you want. Been using it creating art for my game, and haven't encountered a single problem in almost 800 hours of creating.
Aseprite is a game changer. It has a lot of the functionality you would expect from image software (layers, effects, tools, etc). I especially enjoy how palettes are handled. Pixel art has never been easier!
Very versatile. Can only recommend further.
the only pixel art software you could ever need. doesn't get much better.
Najlepsza, warta swojej ceny aplikacja do rysowania pixelartΓ³w :)
Best Pixel art software, period.
really good pixel art and animation tool
very easy to use, really simple
excellent for beginners and pros
An excellent and extremely handy and versatile tool for creating all sorts of pixel art! Not much more to say here
Very useful and clearly structured piece of sprite making software that is intuitive to use and incorporates many neat features for artists.
Gosto bastante, por isso eu gostei, se nao, nao teria gostado
Best tool for pixel art I've seen.
I am not even a pixel artist but if I were I'd use this as my main tool. It has pretty much everything you'd need to make pixel art.
Of course pixel art is real art.
Definitely. If anyone said otherwise they didn't know jack shit.DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE THROUGH STEAM!
I just lost $20 learning that running Asperite through Steam client on one system forces the other steam client to quit if you try to run a game. Absolute nonsense... and customer support refused to refund the money. I had to eat the loss, uninstall and repurchase Asperite through their official website here: www.aseprite.org
Same price with no B.S.
Shame on Steam customer service for being so lame.
Absolute gem of a software, I really don't know how could someone can give this a negative review, but okay, to each their own I guess...
love this I make nice art here
Id recommend this to anyone that's into making Pixel Art or loves making 16 bit to higher levels. The U.I. is pretty basic nothing to complex, for a $20 software this is for some people that are on budget rather than purchasing a software that will empty out your wallet.
Has a few problems but it's kinda cool
My friend uses Aseperite quite a bit. i/m talking 600-700 hrs, and his pixel art is super good, so I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to make pixel art on any level.
I bought this on a whim and it's legitimately one of the best purchases I've ever made
Best pixel art creation software.
kocham pixel arty a ta aplikacja jest do tego stworzona. Nawet ma pixelowe napisy. MEga przyjemny program i mozna sobie jeszcze pobrac inne motywy
Amazing for creating pixel art and sprites. so many cool features (eg. auto outline, copy and paste from one sprite to another, and more.) My go-to program for pixel art. and the price is very affordable.
By far the best pixel art software
10/10
the only pixel art software you'll need.
works great, very easy to use, many quality-of-life tools and settings, customizable interface. highly recommended!
I liked everything about this product.
My life is multiplied by pixels +___+
yeah i don't use it very often but it's alright i guess
Great pixel art software.I rarely buy software and prefer to use free alternatives but this one deserves it's money.
Amazing software expect I have lost heaps of motivation to use it!
If pixel art is your thing, look no further. Has everything you could ever want in a pixel art editor.
not great at art but this is very fun in general
Very intuitive and easy-to-use UI for making and editing pixel art. I especially like the view controls; just scroll to zoom in/zoom out, middle click and hold to move around.
I think you should buy this application if you do pixel art other than that, you will die.
has everything you could possibly think of that you would need. can even handle a 3000px x 3000px 1 min animation in the background with 24fps perfect playback when using the timeline (good for effects). This is the one you buy if your looking into getting into pixel art or animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BxXtxGNHVU effects in that video were made using this.
As someone who's used other art programs for pixel art for years, having this recommended to me-- and buying it, was the best decision of my art career. if you do pixel art of any kind, be it for video games, or just for general artwork, i'd genuinely recommend this.
(also, i like the little alligator dude on the store page. he's funny looking. if you're not gonna get it for the art, get it for the cute alligator fella.)
Really good for pixel art (obviously), but I really must commend the design of this app. It's the most intuitive image editing app I have ever used, I just love this thing, I love the fact that I can run it anywhere, how easy it is to animate sprites, and all of these extra features such as upscaling, tile previews, JSON exports. I just can't put into words how great this is. JUST GET IT. (And the documentation is also great)
Easy to use for beginners and full of useful features to learn.
cheap and amazing software that makes my pixel commissions easier and faster to do
Very intuitive interface, allows you to do the job right!
Just an easy to use dedicated pixel art creation software, does what it's supposed to better than any other.
I love this tool. I definetly hadnt spent too much time on that tho
after 10390 hours ,simply the BEST ONE!!! you can add scripts to new features too
Very handy pixel art program that is both user friendly and capable. My only gripe is the file explorer it uses, but that is toggleable and easy to fix. Great for creating chipsets for early RPG Maker games due to its index functionality, as well as Starboard mod graphics with its customizable grid. Worth the price!
Ooooooh..... How do you win this game ?
stop scrolling through reviews. just buy it already
Very beginner friendly, many good tools to improve the quality of your work, and even has a built in animator. 9.5/10 amazing program
50% of the time steam said I used this was me working in a game engine with this running in the background lol. This is one of the best tools for making pixel art, everything was designed in mind for pixel art, including the look of the UI. It makes the experience of making the art fun too. An easy recommend.
I might never be able to pronounce the title correctly. But I still love this software and the community around it.
Simple. Great for beginners. Really active community with tons of advice and guides.
One of the best Sprite creators I've ever used, not to mention just good software for art
incredible tool for creating pixel art it has all the features you'l ever need, from creating tiny little characters into making sprite sheets for your games and so much more i personally think its one of the best software's on steam
Very user friendly compared to other pixel art software. 1 issue though, mirroring and then marking an area then trying to move the marked area away from the other doesn't work.
i thought i hated my self but no, i hate this more.its great
One of the best! Software's ever
...I see everything in pixels now...
Absolutely the easiest tool for making pixel art pictures and especially animations.
Its good for beginner pixel artists, bought it because it was cheap. Now after learning to use it properly the program crashes a lot and the layer and frames bug randomly. Too bad I have a lot of hours put into this if not I would apply for a refund.
What do I think of Aseprite? Well, lemme tell ya!
In all seriousness I heavily enjoy and use this program a load. (As of the time of writing this 580+ hours on steam) and I might be biased because of that, but I honestly think it's great for anything coming to pixel art and there's such a ton of great features that makes this one of the bests pixel art programs I've touched.
Some of the features in specific I really enjoy and find super useful in this program.
- Indexed colors as an option : These are extremely helpful for consistency I like to mess around with colors a lot and sometimes I accidentally end up with colors that I don't mean to have near duplicates of in a project. With indexed colors that's never an issue, and I'm able to make sure there aren't any extras I don't want.
- Animations being built in : These are absolutely a necessary tool for workflow in a lot of cases, and I'm Aseprite does a pretty well job at handling them. I don't have much to say other than it has built in tools for onion skinning, linking frames, and loads of others that help the experience.
With these general great features there's always going to be a few that bug me however, and while they aren't as notable as the other parts, I still feel like I should go over them in any review.
- Issues with copying colors from other projects : While it's not consistent, every once in a while for whatever reason the program won't save colors when trying to use one in another project. Generally the only way I can fix this is by manually copying the hex code into the other project, and to add on that can be difficult and sometimes it won't work and you'll have to do it over again.
- Built in file explorer is difficult to work with : Many times I find myself stuck trying to work my way back to my art folder after temporarily going out to save a project somewhere else, leaving me stuck digging through files because the file explorer in the app is simply a struggle to work with.
Despite what I didn't like about this program I think it's an amazing option to work with if you're looking for one built for pixel art. Features are very much useful and I overall have a good time with Aseprite.
I have been using this software for making sprites for my game. I find it easy to use and just wonderful for making animation sheets. Takes a lot of guess work out and adds in so many nice features. I have to admit I came from Gimp for a lot of my art before, and while Gimp is still my go to for most other art, this program just has features that were easy enough to pick up for a first time user AND powerful enough to make what I need. I think the best features are the overlay for animation and the play though of it in the program as well as it holds several colors in the side panel so you can easily swap out and retain colors. Also loving the gif export.
good software to make pixelart
Its good for pixel art and just drawing in general
It does what I want it to (pixel art stuff) and doesn't do what I don't want it to (not pixel art stuff).
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aseprite is literally the best pixel art tool you can buy with money
My Experience and Advices
As a self taught pixel artist with 2 years experience, I wouldn't recommend you buying this program for pixel art. Especially for beginners. The reason for that is Aseprite's interface is more confusing than most pixel art applications in the market. Another issue is Aseprite is missing many simple functions such as centralizing your sprite. Most things I draw are in 1:1 Square; and having no tool to centre the sprite is so frustrating.
The only thing which makes Aseprite better than some other tools is that it can tolerate to lots of frames (depends on your machines resources), it provides an editable interface, it provides different kinds of palettes, it provides users with preset palettes (like GameBoy, Minecraft, Commodore 64)...
For beginners and those who look for alternatives I would recommend using:
β’ Piskel App (Free)
β’ GraphicsGale (Free)
This is a super good software. Very much worth the $20 (original price) even if it is less than that sometimes because of sales.
love the app, easy, usefull, simple and the look is clean
Learned to use this program in a game jam, will be using it from now on for everything.
Nice to handle, does everything I need and more and has many quality of life improvements over competition.
This is THE best pixel art software out there. Stop checking out the reviews, and get the app already.
really good and amazing but im bad and suck at it
Really good pixel art tool! I love the style! I gotta find out if it has dark mode.
Very Intuitive good for beginners. Also the plug ins are super awesome and cool.
UI is great looking and program does exactly what it needs to.
it's so hard i still can't beat it
If Aseprite was a person I would lovingly make them a warm cup of tea and relax with them on some sort of porch together. Very good.
If you're interested in sprite design for an ambitious project or just as a hobby, I highly recommend Aseprite. The software offers a robust collection of tools for sprite creation and animation that will help you create fantastic art you can be proud of. Like all softwares, there is a learning curve, but you can stroll over to your favorite video streaming site and find plenty of helpful tutorials and demos that will help you fine tune your masterpiece. This is a game changer, thank you Aseprite!
if you make textures and sprites for video games and do not have this application you will unfortunately die within the next 4-6 years
buy this, it's great.
BUY IT ALREADY
I use it for Binding of Isaac sprites, gets the job done and does it well!
Quite simply the most optimal pixel art tool. Open source, easy access to custom scripted tools, accessible interface, and is incredibly versatile. The photoshop of pixel art, except it isn't $600. 10/10 would recommend
This is the best Game on Steam!
this is probably the best spriting sofware out there, very intuitive and offers a wide - not overwhelming toolkit for anything from creating spritesets to 2d animationkits, with plenty native import and export options
ive only used 2 pixel art softwares, and this is easily the best
This software will help me fulfill my dream with pixel art and animation
It's awesome for pixel art, animation, tile sets. It is very useful and very helpful.
It's simple but there are some things you need to learn if you want to make something complex.
or make it easier to do stuff. But it's not hard to learn it.
A 13/10 from me. I love it.
It's practically unrivalled in how much quality-of-life tools it has for creating pixel art
Great pixel art/animation tool
Got it because I am only interested in pixel art, and photoshop seemed unnecessarily clunky for what I was trying to achieve. In that regard, it has definitely succeeded!
I've been for years and still constantly creating games that I never finish, and even though this program isn't going to change that at all....
It has made it a whole lot easier to design characters, props and so on. I especially love how easy it is to animate in there as well this is an absolute bonus to my hobbies ?
Pixel Art is something I've always wanted for my projects AND I am not even kidding I haven't even ever drew Pixel Art up before this and my work looks very acceptable to me.
The UI is a bit tricky at first however once you learn it which I was able to do on my own after about an hour, the navigation becomes a little more understandable. In all though you'll later find it's pretty simple and very convenient.
If you like making 2D games I would 100% recommend it DO NOT PASS UP ON THE SALE!!, I was a bit skeptical at first because to be honest this was more of an impulse buy instead of searching around for other programs but in all honesty it's the best money I've spent in a while.
good software good for silly, cute or even professional animations
still draw like sh*t. Great program btw.
Incredibly good pixel art creation tool :)
The best software for sprite making. Experts and beginners (like me) can find something to like in here!
Kinda great.
But I need zoom 60-80%
the best pixel art program to tell people to use
Such an amazing software so far. I recommend checking out Miniboss' Tutorial online if you're beginning like me, he helps explain how to use the software and where to start with making pixel art, he's got tonnes of helpful articles and stuff too outside of the beginner's tutorial too. Whoever made this software, my eternal gratitude goes to you. You obviously care about pixel art and you've made it so easy for everyone. Truly, you've made the world a more beautiful place to live in. Thank you!
A really nice game with simple layout, pixelated HUD and great drawing and animating mechanics that you can learn in 2-3 hours after the purchase.
Anyone can learn with this software, even someone that hasn't got any expirience (like me).
This is one of the Cheapest, Most Efficent and Well Mande animation starting software that you can find on Steam.
(There are also a lot of options in the project creation, they can help you do little details in the drawing. An example is the option to change ink)
9/10 100% recommended!
! if you find this review useful please give me a badge or comment, i would highly appreciete it, thanks !
i have used this for 500+ hours and still dont know how to draw big booby pixel art anime women
Very good program, easy to use π
It's probably the best pixel art editor out there. Easy, fast, simple. 10/10
It's like the dark souls pixel graphic software
Awesome software for creating pixelart.
If you've used Photoshop, you'll feel right at home, because general control scheme is basically the same.
Great program, gives a lot of tools to make drawing and animating in pixels a much easier process.
It is fun to use. It is efficient to use. Therefore, it is good.
Yeah go for it, if i wanted i could simply spend 10k+ hours creating sprites in this without complaining.
This is a powerful and intuitive way to design pixel art. The "onion-skin" feature is flexible and very effective. If you are going to be designing a lot of pixel art, this is definitely worth the money.
Absolutely amazing software, highly recommend it. It has selection tools, layers and all the animation tools that make any pixel art software. It is easy to learn and creates high quality exports, ideal when creating games in unity. 10/10
Simply the best pixel art software.
Good tool for the job.
One issue I've had is copying and pasting hex color codes from and into the program on linux. Other than that, good program.
Best pixel art tool out there. Worth every penny.
holy moly worth every cent little fantasy and the pixels do the job great app!!!
Really awesome pixel art software!!
The best pixel art software I've used so far. Everything works fine and smooth. It also allows the user to add extensions and themes, making it very customizable and versatile. I strongly recommend!
Great software for making pixel art. you have a lot of options but it is still easy to use.
if you do pixel art, get aseprite
simple as
This solves all the tedious things about making pixel art; it has every tool you didn't know you needed, yet doesn't feel cluttered. More software should be like this.
It's excellent. If you think your image looks pixelated in the editor, don't worry- it will look correct after being exported/rendered.
I had to use this software for a co op job pretty good software so I picked it up.
