Reminiscent of older turn based games. If you're into this type this one is worth trying out.

I was blessed enough to be growing up in the days of Interplay / Black Isle ... The Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Icewind, and Planescape Titles literally and legitimately saved my life. I have a love for these games that runs to my very core. There simply is no bigger fan of the genre than me. Period.

With that being said, I can very, VERY happily announce that this game absolutely nails it. It is not some cheap knock off or reproduction, it is the real deal. I am loving the experience and want to give a huge shoutout to the developer(s?) for giving this aging man something to smile and rejoice about.

Good NPC stories, good character development with the skill tree. A fun game.

If you love RPGs such as Fallout 1&2 or Wasteland this will fall inline.

Fans of the classic Fallout series will love it! A very decent take on the genre, as per the classic, this game is not for the faint of heart. Indeed, expect lots of F5's and F6's in order to win, at least in the first few hours! Post apocalyptic USSR is fun and immersive. RPG wise, this game is a breath of fresh air, every little decision carries a certain weight to it, dialog choices are diverse and engaging. Overall though, Atom is a banger of a hidden gem and most certainly a bargain for what it's worth.

The true successor to the original Fallout games.

Njaevin
Njaevin

A spiritual successor of the old fallout games or older Crpgs in general. With all its flaws, advantages and some improvements

The game is set in a post apocalyptic russia and leans heavily on russian culture, references or memes and to fallout 1 & 2. Its a typical old school-esque click RPG. So for everyone who loved the old or newer crpgs, this one can be worth your time and money.

Pros:
+A good 40-60 hours of playtime without endless grinds or needed powergaming

+Comfy and easy to understand UI. Everything has descriptions and explains what is what in a general way. Easy to read, easy on the eyes, kinda immersive UI imo.

+After initial bugs, this game is now mostly if not completely bug free. I didn't had bugs or game breaking things happening on pc, console or mobile version.

+Seamless and quick! saving/loading of cloud saves. You can create your account and play your save file without a hassle on your phone, pc or playstation, such a blessing.

+It doesn't explain too much. Such a refreshing thing to actually use my brain and taking some notes again in this modern day of gaming (can be a negative if you're used to games telling you always what is to be done and where)

+graphics are more than fine for a crpg, especially comparing it to similar games.

+Every npc has to be talked to, you dont know who is who without them telling you or knowing by other sources. This can be considered a negative or a positive. Its immersive but also can be a slog if you're impatient. NPCs are not lifeless husks like in most RPGs.

+Good balance between melee, weapons and stats in general. It all works and has undergone a lot of balancing since.

+inventory management + Equipping yourself and companions

+If you know your way and how to powergame, you can absolutely destroy this game even without companions. (But requires meta knowledge ofc)

+Devs are active on steam and rog codex forums and like to have direct input to their community, they seem very grounded and listen to feedback and reported bugs

+Available in a lot of languages including for example german.

+English and German translation are mostly very good. Not what I expected tbh.

Cons:
-game is very mechanical and doesn't explain a lot so you have to figure this out yourself (try and error). In this day and age its uncommon but personally I liked it. A minor change or mistake can be the difference between an easy or a difficult fight.

-a lot of references to russian culture and memes, this can be a bad or good thing. As a non russian, you probably are fine and won't even get most of it.

-writing varies from good to meh. Its mostly mediocre and does its job.

-a lot of combat. You can't really play a speechcraft only character. You can get away with a lot of shenanigans but in the end combat is sometimes inevitable so be prepared (or prepare your companions)

-controlling your companions is a hassle and sometimes their AI does not what you want, you dont have control about them except giving them general rules like "stay close to me, prevent friendly fire" etc.

-skilltrees need a rework (they fixed this in Atom rpg: trudograd)

A lot of the negatives are adressed in the second stand alone game: Atom RPG trudograd which is a direct continuation of the first game.

As a non-russian you probably are more than fine in terms of references, otherwise it "CAN" be annoying sometimes. The game needs you to find your way, fiddle with its mechanics and is text heavy (this is crpg what do you expect?). Of course this is not fallout and it can't reach it in terms of atmosphere and story but if you are in need of more of the same (genre) and like crpgs in general, this is absolutely worth a playthrough, if not several!

I rate this game a solid 6.5/10

Pickletoes

Solid Fallout 1,2 mimic
Sound effects and graphics aren't bad considering
No voice overs, so get used to reading everything
Game feels unbalanced
There's a weird loot bug/glitch which gets very annoying after a few hours
Combat is very random. For example, I'll get crit for 1 damage and then I'll get hit non-crit for 25. Makes little sense. Or maybe it makes a tone of sense if the game is coded for grazing shots. Either way it's annoying because you have NO IDEA how hard you'll be hit. There are lots of times I've been 2-shot by mobs that don't hit hard. For example, {you are hit for 2, crit for 1, hit for 2, and then hit for 25...you are dead}
The option to aim at a particular spot on an enemy would be cool, but there's no advantage. I've attacked mobs in the head/arms many times and there's no difference except the head/arms attacks are a lower %-age so they are harder to do.
The game is very word-y. Lots of reading with not point. I guess the point is, if you want a bunch of pointless background info than it's there for you.
Ammo is so rare that you spend half the game using melee weapons. If you don't max out 'melee' with your points, as you level, you'll not do well or you'll have to restart the game.
I hate to say it, but overall this is like Fallout 1/2 but not nearly as good, balanced, or fun. And I hate Bethesda. It's not a bad game, it's just that it's unoriginal and a bit boring. Not the kind of game I'd recommend to others. I'd rather recommend the Fallout series.

If you like older type top down 3rd person view games that are old school turn based (my favorites) and have a massive amount of rpg and storyline with a ton of quests, then this game is for you.

One could actually call ATOM RPG a clone of the original "Fallout" series 1&2 that came out in the late 90s and before that "wasteland" in the early 90s. However, for me, its more like "Fallout and wasteland" in Russia. Is this a bad thing? Not really. As an original player of both previous titles, It was pleasure playing a game once long enjoyed but in a different setting. One could say, a "Fallout/ wasteland" reboot in Russia.

As for the gameplay, I found it much harder than the Fallout series. The character building takes much much longer, and the game in general is much more harder to advance. (which in reality, makes the game much more enjoyable over long hours of gametime.)

All in all, its a great game if you have the time and enjoy older long RPG games.

A post-apocalyptic RPG set in the former Soviet Union, very much in the style of Fallout 1 and 2. It's funny, well-written and offers a lot of different settings, which are fun to play through. It even spawned a sequel and some of your decisions seem to matter in that one as well. Combat can be tricky, as well as finding your way into the game (lots of leaving quests for later times when you got better equipment, lots of trial and error), but I quite enjoyed that.

This game is strongly reminiscent of Fallout 1 and 2, but with a touch of Eastern European xenophobia, alcoholism, and general pessimism that feels very authentic. It is incredibly difficult and unfortunately, if you do not do some meta research, most character builds will be unplayable. All enemies have 10 Dexterity so you need that as well.

I find the game engaging, though perhaps a bit predictable. Some quests are random encounters, which is weird, and there are little quirky things that makes it feel like an indy game. The dialogue feels like it was translated from Russian, so even if you are playing a female character, you talk like a real slavic superman, boisterous, insulting, but ultimately convinced you will fail in your mission.

I recommend it if you like the post-apocalyptic milleau and enjoyed Fallout 1-3, including Tactics.

This is one of my favorite games. At first its pretty hard and very unforgiving if you have a poor build, but it gets pretty streamlined about one quarter of the way in and is easier. The pacing is great and I got to the end of the game without seeing it coming, which I always love because the whole time it felt like there was more to come. It has a good story and I like how it flows into the second game.

I wish the game were much larger, but as with all games with old-school RPG mechanics, the bigger you make the game, before you know it you're way too overpowered and the game loses it's challenge. It feels like the world is large, but many of the areas only have one or two quests associated with them and you never go back. It felt a bit like Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn in that sense. No game is perfect, but I haven't felt this much satisfaction from a game since the first time I played Baldur's Gate I.

10/10 in my book, hats off to the developers. Thank you for giving us this Fallout-inspired post-apocalyptic adventure!

Although I had fun with this game, I would honestly not recommend it. The problem is the combat. It has random enormous difficulty spikes that there is no way around. There are some battles the game puts in front of you that are simply unwinnable. I couldn't finish the final battle because they would one shot my entire party on the first round no matter what I did. Apparently you need throwing weapons to use grenades to win these impossible battles. For an RPG supposedly focused around building any kind of character, it is disappointing that some battles are simply impossible without the right character esign.

After over 60h of play on one character, with intention of export to Trudograd,

ATOM has everything I would expect from a successor of OG, isometric Fallout and other classic RPG's,

    • Succulent worldbuilding inspired by "eastern post-apo" like METRO and STALKER
    • Adult approach to quests, difficulty level, content
    • Humorous aspects in characters, world, quests
    • Old-school inventory and resource management
    • Base building
    • Huge character customizability, replayability and open approach of solving various tasks and story choices
    • Interesting and rewarding exploration
    • In on own way fair and sandbox combat with plenty of weapons and items to choose

Definitely worth trying. Deserved recommendation!

Bokain49
Bokain49

This game is awful. Mechanics are simple enough as any turn-based product, but the combat is ridiculous. How is it that I am one hour into the game and I am being killed with two hits? This tells me exactly what I need to expect. And sure enough, it didn't disappoint. Every enemy I ran into only took a few hits before I was dead. It is terribly unbalanced. Hit chances are very low and when you do, it barely does a scratch. Does this developer have testers? Might be time to invest into a few. Can we also come up with an original concept that hasn't been done before. If we don't have an imagination, why don't we just steal a low-budget version of Fallout!? Do not buy. You're welcome.

P.S. This is no "new school" rpg. Those were actually good. Thanks for disabling my response. lol

Im giving Atom a thumbs up for the game and a thumbs WAY down for the English translation.

Whoever they hired with either 8 years old or just used google translate.

The dialogue is long and rambling with every character sounding somewhat mentally challenged.

I wish I spoke Russian.

Hooking up in the wasteland with slavic beauties kept me going, it's a missing feature from modern RPGs after Bioware sold to EA and the cd project toned it down(was a gorgerous feature in Witcher 1)

Gameplay is meh(trash mobs rats), looting is annoying (boring containers everywhere, low ammo if you don't work for it buy opening boring boxes and trading all the time, inventory management is never fun)

But it's story focused game so I could finish it with a little boost from a cheat editor on the nexus to make it a smoother more super hero experience.
I didn't play with companions because I didn't like them.
The dog was ok, but was always getting killed so I left him behind.

It's like Fallout 1 + 2 in post-nuclear Russia. The story is well written, the characters are well developed, including many random villagers and guardsmen you wouldn't otherwise think much about. It feels like a game from the golden age of RPGs (mid to late 90s). The Russian culture is prevalent throughout and gives it a really unique feel compared to other games like this that I've played. It is very good. If you like the original Fallout games or Arcanum: Of steamworks and magick obscura, this is definitely worth playing. I haven't been this invested in a game in years.

The few issues I have with this game

overly-complex control schemes.
very cliche start (After briefing, copies FNV but kinda half-baked and not very memorable).
no simple minimap and the map is not very detailed and explains nothing.
weapons are all funky feeling with them having either perfect accuracy or no aim.
Kinda doesn't know what it wants to be in terms of a survival game, I like the fallout feeling with 90's vibes but this is made abstract by the weird UI features and overly complex controls.
Camera is absolutely the biggest pain in this game, they should've made the buildings edges fade like how the SIMS 3 does it, allowing the character to view the full inside if they click a button to view all walls.
Lockpicking should have a mini-game similar to that of Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 4 to make it actually tough.
Gunplay is mediocre, many of the enemies can just be punched to death if you have a decent hand to hand combat skill, or it has enemies that take way to many rounds to kill with an AKM (Automatic Rifle) or PMM (Semi-automatic Handgun).
It doesn't have the feeling the classic fallouts do or New Vegas (I will argue that FNV is better than FO1 and FO2).
Needs a cleaner UI to be better, like a FNV style screen detailing the characters skills and effects that are active, and this should all be located under one tab that leads to everything.
The character just jogs everywhere and slowly at that.
Lots of the reviews are just people having nostalgia and basing it upon that

The Good

has a defined theme throughout the adventure with many of the side characters having backstories and sometimes giving you decent items for just talking to them and maybe doing a quick "grab something in the back of the house or kill the spider" sort of thing
The models in this game are decent looking.
The cards for each character is drawn and looks beautiful.
Game runs buttery smooth on high for me
Has a steam workshop, not much in it though, and most of it is in Cyrillic text (Russian), so the average English speaker can't read it or have an Idea of what the mods do. :(
Is an indie Developer so it is nice to support them, but I am not a very rich person, so I need all the money I can for an education and for games I will enjoy for more than 4 hours without getting bored or annoyed at.
Better buy than COD Vanguard and Battlefield 2042
Zero Crashes unlike any fallout games
Easy to mod unlike fallout games

Will probably repurchase in the future when the cost is $7 USD or less, maybe some of the complaints will be fixed by then and have a bigger more active modding community.

pls find this helpful. it took me 30 minutes to make this review lol

I have played Atom RPG, both on PC, and console. Atom RPG is an amazing game and the UI and graphics are on point in this game. If your looking for a long lasting game that is both strategic and a mystery to play in a open world with an amazing story line, then Atom RPG is the game to choose.

I liked this game. I did. It is a Fallout clone with a lot of run and fetch quests, still, I was enjoying the game overall. UNTIL it got weird. Really unpleasant actually. Maybe it loses something in translation, but calling it socially awkward doesn't begin to cover it. As a serious, 20 year military veteran female gamer, I have never, ever said this before, but I am not sure this game could be any more offensively misogynistic. Maybe it's only if you play as a female PC- I'm not sure. The SUPER cringe-worthy and loathsome come ons, slimey and socially awkward NPC's with bizarre fetishes get old quick. I swear, if ONE MORE NPC tries to get in my pants, jokes about rape or child porn, I am gonna kill every last one of them. I LOVE a good joke. I LOVE irreverent. I don't mind sexist jokes and make them myself. I swear like a sailor and make no apologies. However, when a game makes me feel gross, I have to quit playing. So I recommend with caveats: Don't read the dialogue and you'll be fine.

Found this game to be far inferior to Underrail which does much more with its setting and characters. The combat in Atom is bland and the poor companion AI drags it down to horrendous. The visuals and sound are bland and uninspiring. The pace of the game is slow and the main story never really takes off. There is little in the way of role-playing, the characters and world react to your actions in completing a quest but there really is only one way to complete most quests. The Cult quest-line was disappointing, I thought that helping the government official against them would lead to a series of quests to stop the cult, but nope, it just ended there. It is hard to properly judge the writing as the translation is not well done.

I really liked the quest revolving around Kostya the Yob, felt like there was an actual moral dilemma at play. Unfortunately, it was the only quest I enjoyed in the 21 hours spent playing the game.

So I actually haven't played much of Fallout 1 or Fallout 2 despite owning both for years now. I just can't get into that type of RPG, I thought.

ATOM RPG has changed my mind. I CAN enjoy that type of RPG, and I'm thoroughly enjoying ATOM so far.

One of the great touches is that although you're probably going to save at least a few thousand lives by the end of the game, the game doesn't even hint at this in the first hours of gameplay, and the entire world doesn't revolve around you. I have to talk people into giving me work or telling me secrets that they've never told anyone (unlike Bethesda games) and practically nobody knows that you're some sort of covert operative for pre-war organization whose purpose is to save the soviet wasteland.

Speaking of, this game has been localized from Russian which would mean there are things lost in translation, but amazingly even though the localization isn't 100% perfect I would still say it's 99% perfect. It has clear Russian vibes to it, but the dialogue lacks all the usual poorly-translated idioms, puns, and rhymes you would expect from a bad localization. The English in this game is almost completely natural and conveys the tone of the character you're talking to.

I am a longtime fan of the isometric RPG. Baldur's Gate was my introduction to the genre and I still believe it sets the standard for what one should expect from a top down RPG. I'll cut to the chase and put it this way: ATOM is absolutely one of the best games I have played in this genre. The 80s themes and nostalgia are on point. The weapons and Soviet era tech are historical and accurate. The game is brutal without being too rage inducing. Nothing about the game holds your hand; there's plenty of opportunity to really botch a story line. Choices really matter! I was absolutely consumed by this game and played the entire story thru in about a month.

ATOM is a C-RPG, meaning it is turn based, not real time with pause. This presents a lot of strategy and chances to play the game a bit more like a traditional table top RPG. You cannot control your companions which speeds up the game, but limits creative choices and often contributes to the chaos of combat. Overall the game is reasonably balanced and fair, guns rule the wastes, but there are still creative ways to spec your team.

The artwork is exceptional! There is no voice acting, so strap in to basic read a novel. Game mechanics are overall very good, but do leave something to be desired, mostly in stats and perk trees (reworked in their companion release). The ability to switch between isometric and a free floating camera is nice too; the graphics are great for an indie game that is this small. The story telling is quirky and very "80s" sci-fi / horror meets table top humor. It was funny when it needed to be, it was sad when it needed to be, and it was scary when it needed to be.

I really only a few minor complaints at the end of the game:
- I would have LOVED for the game to have *some* voice acting like others in the genre... but I get that this is a cheaper game from an indie studio. Hardly a complaint, more of something I wish I could have...
- Certain combat sequences are a little imbalanced and there are only certain combat strats that will work. It sort of robs the excitement from these epic battles.
- A specific region of the game contains content that feels a little removed from the rest of the game (no spoilers). It sort of departs from the narrative oddly and also spawns WAYYYY too many encounters. I would have far preferred the game without it or a chance to explore this region as an expansion with its own story.

To wrap up, if you're a fan of this genre, buy this game, no question. It's money well spent, you will get a full 60+ hour game out of it, you'll support a small studio, and you will get gameplay that feels like a titan of the genre for a fraction of the price. Tons of replay potential and multiple ways to play it.

This game had been recommended in a few places so I decided to try it out. It has a Fallout 1&2 feel to it and might appeal to people who enjoyed those a lot in the past. However, no aspect of the game really interested me and I didn't find it compelling in any way. It mostly felt a little clunky and boring: the combat, the inventory management, the crafting, the looting and the character building are all uninspired and not terribly clear to navigate through a lot of the time. I did not finish the game so I won't give it a rating but I would not recommend it.

At 15 us D I'll recommend. I have more than 5 hours. I played offline because online was messing with my saves. I got maybe over half way through the campaign.

Good - it's FO2 style.
The writing is ok and though the english can read strange it doesn't ruin the game.
The quests are good.
Character progression was good- like FO2.
A real love letter to FO2.

Problems -
lots of QOL problems that I don't remember in FO2.
A couple of examples:
traders are often placed in some mysterious part of the encounter map and the map exit is
not next to the trader and is also ... somewhere on the map. Actually map exits are like this for all random encounters.
Not where you expect them or where is easiest.
This seems like a petty gripe but after dozens of encounters the frustration builds. I would avoid 2 minute encounters because I knew 30 extra seconds would be me scrolling around the map looking for npcs and exits.
It's ridiculous.

Also, the main quest can get lost. There are no markers or easy hints. The writing does a very bad job of focusing you on the plot and task. It's up to you to pay attention.

I went without a companion which you cant do evidently if you want to beat some mid game maps.

But worst, in the end, before I quit, I ended up with no where to go. I traveled the map. Found what I think was the main plot destination but I was too weak to beat it. So I went about grinding with no plot elements and that got boring fast so I quit. Maybe there were some quests I missed (though i clicked through most conversation choices) but either way the game seemed to want you to play a specific way. I could have gathered a companion and maybe beat the map that stopped me but I at that point its not my own "adventure" anymore.

Anyway, it's worth 15 if you love FO2.

To compare this game to a modern day version of Fallout 1 or 2 is an understatement. It takes that concept and runs with it. Completely modernized graphics and mechanics make this game easy to pick up after playing through the tutorial area. The narrative will hook you in and will actually give you an incentive for completing quests. Instead of having bland and half baked dialogue options there's always a freedom of choice no matter what situation you'll get yourself wrapped up in. You can even craft and combine common materials or find schematics that'll aid you on your journey through this Post Soviet apocalyptic wasteland. This game has a charm of it's own and if you take a chance on it like I did you'll definitely enjoy it as much as I have.

Drake Platinum THE WORLD
Drake Platinum…

Its sorta what a modern fallout would be like just don't expect the polish like the wastelander series it does feel like a very unfinished game with all these locations and NPCs that literally lead to nothing. Its pretty unbalanced as well and not an easy game at all but the story is pretty good and the world building isn half bad. The other issue is unlike fallout there isn much information to help you. A lot of times even trying to look something up isn going to give you answers. This really is an indie game don't forget that and you'll probably enjoy yourself I certainly did but I will admit the lack of polish made me just want to go play fallout or wastelander.
It also suffers from the morrowind problem ( or any rpg before 05 i guess lol) no quest markers and not much instruction so prepare to lose your shit occasionally.

English translations are a bit spotty and I wish the critical hit system was more detailed, for example was expecting Fallout style text narrations to show enemy damage to different body parts. But hard to complain for an indie game, they did an amazing job overall!

Not as good as the sequel.

The combat is too slow and it is extremely hard to make money in the beginning.

Atom is only a decent game. It looks good, the old Soviet aesthetic is really well done and not just for giggles, and the talent system is interesting, but that's about where the charm wore off for me.

The gameplay is pretty similar to Fallout 1 and 2, though it runs a little smoother and there are fewer crazy minigun crits. You troop around and loot junk out of people's shanties or old ruins, then use it to barter or craft makeshift gear. That's certainly an entertaining foundation for a game, but unlike the old Fallouts, Atom doesn't really offer much in the way of meaningful agency or intriguing stories to build on that. You walk up to people, they hand you a pretty straightforward rats-in-the-basement style quest and you go do it for a simple reward. Your dialog options generally consist of basic questions with little opportunity for roleplay, and the people you meet are very one-dimensional.

The writing is this game's biggest flaw. I'm sure it's better in Russian, but the English translation really clangs. It's grammatically correct most of the time, but the translators are clearly ESL themselves and a lot of the patter they tried to preserve just doesn't read well in English. Everyone sounds sort of drunk. I guess that fits for Soviet Postapocalyptica but it's not pleasant or natural to read. Even if you can handle the uncanny phrasing, the writing itself doesn't offer much. Characters will randomly make out of place pop culture references and meaningless gags - a doctor constantly repeats the "Dammit Jim, I'm a ___ not a ___" line from Star Trek, another character quotes Aleister Crowley at length for seemingly no reason. It's very Monkey Cheese, but in a boomer kind of way.

Some other reviewers have made a fuss about the politics of this game, but despite one unfortunately outdated Jewish stereotype (a bookseller who has very high Bartering and a kippah that raises it even higher, he pretty much looks exactly like the Happy Merchant), I don't really know that ATOM has a political message. It reads more to me like a snapshot of all the buck wild ideologies, both Left and Right, that went into creating and then destroying the Soviet Union. That's perfectly cool, but if you're invoking the likes of Prokhanov you should expect it to invite analysis.

For a crunchier tactical experience I'd point you to Underrail, for better writing you can't go wrong with Fallout 1 and 2. If you've played those and absolutely need more, Atom might be your game, but only if the last couple paragraphs didn't turn you off.

in other cases... probably too, but it's harder to explain ;)

Dated controls, a lot of the quirk is lost in translation, it is hard to nagivate towns because all the signs are in russian, and is brutal unless you optimize a build. Unfortunately the optimized build is a high speechcraft woman that pretty much fucks her way through the game.

Good if you want some Fallout 1/2 nostalgia, bad otherwise

It's hard, difficult to pickup but once you get a few levels under your belt and can avoid the things that got you killed last time, the game becomes insanely immersive and fun.

As a fan of the original Fallout, Wasteland and other similar RPG i wish i can talk good of this game.
Unfortunately i can’t.
I understand devs are trying to recreate the original atmospheres of the old games mixing with the soviet look and aesthetics, and they do it good, but there is too much jankyness and lost in translation problems that everything except shooting or beating people is really a slog. And shooting and beating people has a lot of issues too.
The dialogues are on the borderline of insanity. Sometimes is fun, sometimes are references (more or less obscure), sometimes is impossible to understand what exactly some guy told you (and there is no log for dialogues, just for fun). The option “have you heard some rumors” which you have for EVERY character in the game sometimes points to nothing sometimes is the solution for a quest which you can’t have in other ways. I can’t understand how much is lost in translation and how much is impossible to understand by design but speaking to people is a torture and rarely people will give you their names so good luck on finding anyone in a big city.
The skills checks are really strange. You can open basically every lock in the game with 40 on lock picking but for the solution of some early game quest you need 70+ speech or more than 8 of a stats. I understand that, as Underrail, those games REQUIRES you to look for a guide for buildings but I really hoped this was more on the Fallout side. Technology skill has no sense I have played 12 hours of game, cleared a lot of areas and I haven’t used once, personality (stat) and speech (skill) are sometimes exchanged in the dialogues and sometimes you use one, sometimes the other completely at random. The stats bonus to the skills are also minimal but you have extremely high stats checks.
Encounters have a really bad design. There is a quest where you have to escort a caravan, you get ambushed and you say “well we have 4 guards against 5 guys we can win”. Except that the guards are on the other side shooting 2 guys while you are alone (or with your companion) in point blank range of 3 bandits. In another you have a quest to check “something”, you go and you find yourself trapped in an hive of insects, no less than 5 for encounter. This is the third step of an early game quest. That’s an example but the encounters are only “piss easy” and “you will reload a save”, no mid ground, no matter where you are it is two guys naked or an army of people with armors and automatic rifles (sometimes even in the randomness of the wasteland this law applies).
You can always say “let’s grind in the wasteland” but exp for random encounter (unless you start to kill caravaners, which you can’t do cause they are packed with goons armed to the teeth) is really low. In the end you will find yourself surrounded by quests you can’t complete cause you just can’t afford the weight of the combat or you are locked by some insane stats required to go further. It’s really a bad design, this game requires a jrpg level of grinding and that’s not what you expect from this genre of a game.
One companion is tied to a skill or you will never meet him (and is also tied to a random combat, he can die and you can’t do nothing), two are tied to a zone on the complete opposite of the map which probably you will never visit and the last one removes two of the other companions. The game is insanely difficult alone, without a guide you will have no idea on how to get the companions, except one which is tied to the main story. Also you can’t control your companions and you have to hope they position good and try at least not to shoot when they have 30% chance.
I am ok with the atmosphere and the aesthetic, I played a lot of Russian games, but that can’t win an entire game, not with this kind of flaws. I shall check trudograd in the future hoping that those flaws were addressed and fixed. This game? It’s a solid no unless you have a guide on your knees or you cheat.

I really wanted to like this game, but i did not. To put it plainly, it does not anything well enough to justify itself. The combat and most of the mechanics are straight from fallout, not inspired literally taken out of fallout, as of most of the design philosophy behind it. I love fallout, especially the classics and have enjoyed them fully but i'm not blind to their faults, they are games that are great in spite of them. Atom tries to take the mantle of a fallout spiritual successor by replicating it which makes no sense, because you can and should play those games, they still rock. In that sense, it inherent the flaws of it's inspirations and add it's own to them: No quest log, boring combat, needless obtuse systems and many more and it has to boot a pretty bland OST and even blander story and characters. It''s not bad, by any means, there is passion in this game that is for all to see but i could not hope to be bored by it. If want to play fallout play fallout, if want a successor to what the classic fallout games were them play underrail or age of decadence. There are better uses of your money and time. I truly hope that they keep hacking it because the devs are clearly capable of much more.

Amazing game that brings back the memories of the Fallout series. I recommend you finish ATOM RPG first then transfer your character to ATOM RPG Trudograd since the game starts at level 15. You can transfer a higher level character to Trudograd during character generation and your companions, if still alive, show up eventually too. No spoiler because character generation questions you about them.

I cant get over how great this game is. It is one of my top 5 games at this point. I read a bunch of complaints before getting into this game that complained of difficulty being too high, or bugs or whatever. i dont know if maybe those reviews and comments were made in a previous version or something, but this game is damn near to perfect. I had zero bugs, ZERO...I cannot remember the last time I played a game with zero bugs, if I even ever have. I found this game challenging on the average difficulty level and cannot wait for a second playthrough on harder difficulty. I enjoyed wasteland 3, but this blows that game out of the water. The combat and weapons and abilities are all great, but this game truly eclipses all other games in its story and missions. Each. Freaking. NPC. In. The. Entire. Game. has completely unique dialogue, also, in so many of these games you may walk up to a npc and ask their name. They will tell you it's Bob, then you may move on to ask other questions. Eventually you may ask this NPC his name again on accident, and he will say, in the exact same way as the first time; "it's Bob.". Not here, in this game if you do something like this, the NPC will say something along the lines of " I just told you that, what are you stupid?" This may seem like a tiny thing, but its not just asking their name, its all aspects of the dialogue. The developers literally made dynamic changing dialogue for each. freaking. NPC. and its shocking that some small studio in europe is 94% better at making a dynamic and changing game than crappy developers like ubisoft or bethesda. This is the game of the year for me. Its downright awesome. This game is just incredible. And its supposed to take 40-50 hours to complete, well look at my playtime. thats one playthrough. There. Is. So. Much. To. This. Game. just buy it, and its standalone expansion Trudograd. Honestly, its an embarassment of riches from a supremely competent company that hasnt realized they can half ass these games and give them out piecemeal to nickle and dime the consumers. In short, they arent EA or Bethesda or any of the others, and we need to reward them for that. Buy it, you quite simply will not regret it.

Edit: I really cant express enough how magnificent this game is, and the best part is that there is a standalone expansion waiting for you after this game is done. After you beat Atom RPG and you're just salivating for more, theres an all new all different campaign waiting for you in Atom RPG Trudograd. There are different weapons, all different abilities, quests, maps and npc's and you get to keep your character from the first game. However, I have thought of ONE negative that I have for the game. There are a bit too many wink wink moments in the game for me. For example, the song by Smash mouthcalled all star that goes "Well, the years start coming and they dont stop coming...(something something something) and you hit the ground running...your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb." you know the song. Theres a character you meet in a bar that just says these things. He says like "Well, the years started coming and they didnt stop coming, fed to the rules, so I hit the ground running. And I was struggling so my brain got smart but my head was getting dumb.". Things like this are ALL over the game. Like to the point it gets annoying, to me. The thing is though, its so clear that the developers were having so much fun doing this that it is hard to fault them for it. But still its a bit too noticeable in parts for me. Otherwise, freaking enjoy this game, its just incredible.

I love this game. However, if you're someone like me (ie fucking hopeless at video games) expect to be reloading ALOT, or even restarting. This is a hard core game, but don't let that distract you from how much fun a post-apocalyptic Russian wasteland can offer you in combat, exploration and narrative.

The game does scratch the "Classic Fallout" itch, and is fun for a little bit, but falls very short in the long run. It runs smooth and stable and has a good deal of content. Much of said content is fairly generic, but still - it's a big world.

The writing unfortunately is absolutely cringe-worthy however. Might be that it's just the English translation falls short, but don't think so - there are indications, that some of it is down to the basic story and in particular dialog design. The dialog is Fallout Tactics levels of bad. There is little player agency, no ability to meaningfully influence the events - most quests are straight forward MacGuffin type of deals, some quest lines just randomly stop. The location endings (the Fallout style outro, where they tell, what happens after to all the locations and peoples); They are random chunks of "foreboding story telling" that make absolutely no sense and are out of sync with the events and how the locations were presented in the game.

I was trying to get into the main city, Krasnoznamenny, and it let me try two different checks to try to get in without paying a 30 rouble toll. I failed both, despite have roughly 50 points in both of the checked dialogues.

The guard then said the toll was 1000 roubles. Not a spelling error. I came back later with roughly 700 roubles later when I tried to follow up on another lead, before remembering I owed the guard a grand to get in. I have yet to find another entrance. There probably is, because this is an isometric RPG with ambitions of being an immersive simulation.

Atom RPG. I spent most of my time so far beating the living paste out of a bunch of animals, gutting their incredibly complex organs, and then fishing. I spelunked a bunker and then started over a fresh save because unless you know before hand you need +120 lockpick skill or a time bomb, you will be robbed of everything you have once you come out of it, and despite me trying 20+ times to defeat the muggers in combat, they always get to go first, no matter your choice. Its a more even fight than you might think, because the bandit weapons are as bad as yours, and misfire constantly. I was able to make triple barrel shotguns by then, and gave one to Fidel, who is quite a good shot, but I was trying to close the distance to punch these fuckers out with my knuckle duster, and I kept getting blown away.

So I decided to make a new character, so I'm trying again. I'm not sure I'm going to make it through the whole way.

I do have to say there is a kind of overarching theme of folklore that I am enjoying. The idea of the world being very strange and terrifying, documenting the things the peasants have claimed to see. It is interesting, and adds a unique flair to the game.

The main story honestly feels like shit. Maybe thats because after you perform the first objective, you get robbed of literally everything you've found. You know what thats it. Its getting fucked for no reason. Maybe I should save scum more.

This is an old school rpg with all of the good and bad things from rpgs that were made 20 years ago. I can't recommend it because of all of the roadblocks, lack of story, no connection to any of the characters, bad translation and more. I put close to 100 hours in but probably won't ever finish the game because some things are just too annoying for the game to stay fun.

At the start of the game you have to walk everywhere. It takes forever and at any time a random bandit encounter that you have no chance of winning pops up and you have to reload your last save. This is on normal difficulty. Once you level up and get some companions for your squad you can kill bandits, but you will get quests that are impossible facing enemies that one shot you and kill your companions in seconds. Reload a lot.

The main quest has you looking for a group/general from your organization. You get very little information about this guy and his group throughout the game. I had to ask myself a few times "why do I care about this guy?" The side quests are mostly "get this and come back to me." Since walking is tedious and often requires many reloads, it's a lot less fun than other games.

It's not all bad. I enjoyed it enough to play for 100 hours. Worth a few bucks if you get it on sale and are prepared for the most annoying parts. I think there's an easy difficulty option at the start, but you can't change the difficulty after that. Would suggest setting to easy to smooth out some of the worst things about the game.

Great RPG for those of the isometric view type. The little nods to other dystopic games like Fallout in the dialogs are very cool. Later in endgame the grind can get tedious, but only if you are maxxing your character for Trodograd. Overall a good game.

It's a great game, and in many ways an improvement on the original fallout. It has tons of replay value, and has a magnificent feel to it, especially in the interactions with NPCs, etc. which I can only describe as distinctly Slavic, be it Russian or Ukrainian. Overall it's a great game and I recommend it to guys that want to play a turn based RPG that is a definite challenge.

I'm not even done with the game yet, but I'm already thinking about new character designs, etc.

Game is not bad but definitely not so good as its rating. I can imagine that boosted rating is by influence of russian players.

If I play it after Fallout 2 I give it positive rating, nowaday I must give negative. Average story, lot of time wasted by traveling, fighting super easy encounters from mid to end game, game economy is somelike unhealty, hunger, poisoning, radiation is no problem so you almost dont take care of it but feeding is more boring and waste of time. Companions AI is dump. You tell them to flee after they see enemy and they run forward and backward and enemy just shoot at them.

My rating is 60% but I like to try Trugograd. I hope it will be much better.

I love this game. At first I thought it was too hard, but I went on playing and started learning how to cope. As I learned I kept running into more content that I have never interacted with before(im on my 3rd playthrough) and the story is very well thought out in my opinion. The funny thing is I have never beat the first game yet, I got close to the end and then I want to see if I can find new things to do and incorporate them into my new character. I actually wrote my own bio for my latest character. I think a lot of thought and time was put into this game and for the price you pay I think it is more than a bargain. I haven't even played Trudograd yet, I'm so excited for that.
The only thing I wish they would do is adjust holding certain weapons in the hands so that it actually matched the weapons.(they need animations for holding bolt actions, pistol grip smgs etc) That is probably my only beef with this game as I am quite ocd. if they fix this I would give this game a 10 out of 10!
Btw, this game does not hold your hand, sometimes you need to do some thinking or you need to go explore some more and come back, maybe get some levels and sometimes you will need to do some google searching. Some people may not be a fan of this, but I think it makes the game more challenging than the original fallout games, but to each his/her own

While the game is good, I don't recommend it to anyone. There are many issues with the game:
1- it has too much useless talk. It gets boring after a while.
2- it's too hard to find a specific location. I spent like 1 hour reading three guides to know where the store location is. Additionally, names are in Russian, so you can't understand where you are going.
3- there is so much back and forth in the game. It's usually something good, but it gets tedious combined with the slow pacing slow walking.
4- prepare to spend the first 7 hours without a gun and just talking and looting.
Overall, the game is good, but I wish they could get rid of this weird legacy boring technics.
