It was an interesting proposition when it was released. It never really advanced much. Everything always looked muddy and unfinished.

This is a simple to play yet hard to master gem of a game. People are complaining that it "doesn't have enough content" but the dev delivered what they promised. They patched the bugs and it is past its official release for almost / over a year or so now.

I played this in early alpha and it was fun then but decided to wait to replay it until it was officially released and had been patched up. So I started a few days ago and can honestly say it's one of those games that once you understand the process it gets a lot more fun. There is a decent amount to learn especially what to build and when so you don't start failing your city.

Building your nuclear apocalyptic city isn't an easy task. It's simple to slap things together but if you don't master the management of resources to needs ratio you'll soon find your survivors dying. This in turn will make your city reputation go down and you'll fall apart. The game has different difficulties and a raider scenario too. You have to build city defenses to keep the raiders away but there is no active fighting. It's merely story telling and adds a difficulty layer to make it harder.

Overall despite it seeming to be "bare bones" there is more depth there than meets the eye. Once you master it you can make it harder, to a certain point, and then continue to become a master city manager in the desolate nuclear wasteland. I'd say this game is worth a play through if you want something simple, fun and yet has a good challenge to it.

8.5 / 10 rating from me and mostly just because I wish you could've had a few more options to customize the city leader since it is your "main character" and all their faces look the same. I also hate how you can't do more research to upgrade more things. Hopefully the dev will take the good of this game and maybe make a sequel with a lot more to do including custom map generation for more replay value.

I had high hopes for this game. Played for a while and even after release. But then nothing happened. The updates stopped, the developer doesn't respond, and there's just... nothing to really do. There's so much more than can be done or can be made so much better, but the dev just up and ghosted.

Save yourself the disappointment and move on.

Being a fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, I have to say this game makes my mind travel to a world destroyed by the hands of men, where one has to build hope, in a world without hope, like many other games, but there's a difference. Simplicity. Atomic Society is a game that's accessible to almost everyone, very easy to pick up, learn and play, and to me, a game without too much complexity, is a game worth playing, and well worth its price tag.

I know that the devs are going to read this (just watch, they'll probably respond with a comment) so I wanted to think very carefully about what I wanted to say. The game is short and has some rough patches. No need to explain though because they are paying attention and already know this. They're also very busy working double-time to work out such issues as they have already made it clear that they are in fact listening and trying to do something about it.

So to summarize...

The Devs are listening & working very hard to wrap this game up for final release. I have no doubt of this. Look at my profile and see the games that I play and how much I play them to determine if this means anything to you.

If it does...go buy this game and support these devs.

If it doesn't...Ok. But still, you really should buy this game and support these devs.

I enjoyed my first play-through and I'm thinking about my next one. It was well worth the asking price. Did I mention that these devs are really paying attention? Check out the Steam forums and their Discord to see for yourself. Their commitment to this project is solid and their involvement with the community is top notch.

Saw a game like this on Epic and thought I found it on steam, nope this is like the same game but a worse version of it. I was wondering why it looked so different. God forbid we help the consumer and have a centralized market for a place to buy and sell games. (Epic im looking at you) devs though if you see this, just improve the game i thought this was a different game.

Its not great and it feels half finished and as such, isnt worth the full price price tag.
It does have some good aspects that I wish they had written the code a lot better for.. like the social aspect is fun, but at the end of the day its relatively useless. (Murders/cannibalism etc). There is only a narrow path of development to follow so there is no real longevity and there is no real macro management. It is really basic micromanagement.

This would have made an awesome multiplayer (like settlers 1 and 2) where there is MORE to the game. But its pretty shallow and contrived once you start playing more than a few hours.

Nah, I really didn't like it. It isn't interesting and Rebuild, Banished, Northgard, Kenshi and Frostpunk all do the same stuff, just better. This game is too expensive and poorly programmed by comparison.
The only thing that this game does differently is let you execute people for crimes.

This is a very addictive city builder with some interesting mechanics. Scavenge for resources and build up a community support structure for the endless flow of weary people wandering around the apocalyptic landscape. It starts a little hard as you are swamped to get an infrastructure up and going but then becomes a gradual builder as needs of the people increase. There is an optional raider faction if you want a simple enemy to tend with as well however I play without them. I find that without them the game is great for relaxing after a rough day in the real world.

There is a system of making judgements on social issues within your town to lay down laws. You can encourage, tolerate, incarcerate, terminate, or my favorite... Flog the offenders. Make sure you have the camera close to the punishment center to hear the whip exact its dues as the flogging continues. New to the game is also a family system where you can take a spouse or 3 and have children. Interesting, but as I say it is a new feature and needs some work.

For early access the devs provide a fun playable game with more features in the works, and I must say they are very passionate about Atomic Society. This is one title I can highly recommend to anyone who enjoys city builders. Well worth the asking price and if they come up with a dlc for "supporters" or whatever I'll be happy to buy it.

I had fun with this. ^^
Keeping in mind that it is early access, the concept is interesting. You don't typically find a city builder with corpse clean-up and hanging. LOL. You can actually get married and have a kid, but the main point of the game is getting your settlement under control, and expanding it. This is easier said than done - at least for me it was. The laws you can choose from is sometimes a nail-biter decision, especially when you keep hearing an innocent person was punished, or even worse - killed! I'm happy I picked up this game =).

The Dev(s) (it's an Indie game) are very communicative and really pay attention to feedback. It's super cool hearing the ups and downs of the developing process/ experience. I was especially happy to read about the resolve and determination to finish the game! Fight for your dream!

Game is good considering the price. Obviously it's not a AAA game, and isn't made by a well established developer with a huge following, and shouldn't be treated as such. Yes it's in EA, and again people shouldn't treat it as a finished product. Most of the negative reviews you'll see will talk about "there's not enough content" or "it's buggy". Well no shit, again it's an Early Access game.

Overall, the amount of content is great, the design is solid, and the dev is working his ass off trying to make a great product. The only downside I can see is that there is only a set amount of pre-made maps, so replayability after development is over will be an issue.

Overall score from me, 7 out of 10.

Its a great little game thou it dose have a few bugs. With that what AAA title title from the big studios dont. This little indie studio is doing a great job. They make you think to plan so you can make a City and a life your self in the post apocalyptic world.

Not nearly enough content yet, I know it is early access but a review is based if I would recommend this game or not and right now I would not. I hope to see improvements and come back later and change this review because I love the premise and I want to like this game but as of this writing it is far too bare bones. Get Kenshi if you want a game like this that will keep you entertained for hours.

I recommend this game to anyone looking for a change in their current builder games (I have tropico 5&6, Dawn of Man and Prison Architect). It is still a beta, however I didnt experience many problems with the game. I did however find it slightly frustrating that my people were constantly dying of thirst and hunger on the easiest setting (I had the highest pop. at 400 and 15 wells and 10 dew collectors as well as 10 farms and 5 greenhouses). Maybe that will be fixed a bit in the future?

Anyways, game is great. Havent reached all the goals of the game yet, but I am looking forward to seeing what comes to the game in the future.

It's really just unintelligent, it doesn't follow any of the sort of natural principles that we expect to exist in a city builder and seriously seems like it was made by an uneducated child who thinks that ruling just comes down to a dictator making 'decrees' rather than juggling different interests and scarcity and trying to keep people's support. The silly advertising of this game should have been a red flag to that, there is no meaningful goal to reach apart from getting to a point where you can satisfy your childish desire to hang people like a tyrant (in an incredibly unrealistic, dramaticized manner by the way, no shanty town with 80 people would ever bother rigging a trap-door gallows when they can just dangle someone from a tree), like you probably did with your action figures as a kid when you were coping with your repressed BDSM fascination. Civilizations just don't work like that, you can't support 5-10% of your population being full-time bullies looking to punish people for sport when you live in a frontier area where everyone is used to protecting themselves and no one is used to following arbitrary rules, and every hand should be needed to do actual work like growing food. Which leads to the next point...

Food is practically a non-factor and is barely even mentioned as a need (people get cranky if they have to eat outside of a canteen, that's about it, starvation is almost never an issue), and there is no interesting mechanic for growing it. You literally just place down a livestock pen fully completed with non-moving cattle sitting there (think stables in Age of Empires 2), and you can place them tightly packed together without worrying at all about your cattle needing more room to graze or anything since they aren't actual entities in the game. Crops can only be grown in greenhouses, I guess they tried to excuse their lack of ability to make lively crop fields that change through farming cycles (which has even been accomplished by old, middling games like Tropico 4) by establishing in the canon that none of the land is tenable, so these are also just stagnant structures you can stick wherever you want. You don't see people working even in outdoor structures, they disappear from existence when they aren't walking between activities or hanging from the gallows.

The only real operant factor in the game is 'scavenging' materials for your buildings, which is handled in a not just lame but obnoxious way. For some reason they decided that your Tropico-tier 'avatar' has to personally do all the scavenging himself (which involves micromanaging his pickups and dropoffs), unless you build a bunch of 'scavenger huts' (like that makes sense as something you'd need to pick shit up off the ground and stick it in a pile you keep in another building) to allow incredibly slow and stupid workers to pick up some scraps for you. Also somehow scavenging sites like old buildings and electrical structures replenish themselves so rather than dealing with real post-nuclear scarcity this ends up basically being a re-skin of a normal city builder or strategy game where you harvest trees or whatever, go figure. Apart from "managing" that, the game literally just involves sitting there waiting to get resources to make new buildings (of which you need many, because apparently apocalypse survivors are pampered babies who refuse to do 2 activities in the same place).

Oh, and also the maker of this game apparently thinks that gender reassignment surgery is something that would happen regularly in a miserable post-apocalyptic town with less than 100 people.

Ignore a lot of those negative reviews, I did, because they seemed to based on Major Studio game comparisons. This is an indie game, which means probably 2 or 3 people are working on this with a shoestring budget. That said, I like indie games and go into them knowing they need time and constructive input to grow and evolve. Depending on the the Dev, the game either evolves well, they sell out or they run out of funds. In this case, it looks like the Dev made a course correction to address many of the negative or suggestive posts. Can be good or bad but you have to do what you have to do to survive these days where work is scarce and everyone is on lock down...

I got this game very early on and continue to play from time to time. Its very enjoyable, I like the style and philosophy of the world and how mankind has adapted. I read some red comment about it not being realistic with dictatorships and gallows rather than just lynching parties. Well, I think its very realistic. Thinking about the end of the world and how mankind would try to piece itself back together, its rather more realistic we would revert back to our beginnings as technologically we would be back around the single digit centuries, like pre-medieval times or so. So yeah, you would need dictators (Kings) to make quick and efficient decisions, right or wrong. I love that aspect of the game. What would be unrealistic would be like a senate or board or some such bureaucratic red tape that would suffocate a town. But I digress.

You can't really compare this game to the new ones out fairly, this is much different in style, though similar in game play fundamentals (this game came ouT way before The others) so imho I really like how the dev has crafted everything.

Very fun to play, replay-ability is very high, great to try different roles, maps styles, etc. I'm excited to see the next update and what they have in store for us.

Remember, this is an Indie game with a couple devs, not a big budget dev house with teams of developers, so give them a little patience, support and cheer to get to the finish line. I think it will be even better when all polished up.

Great game that has been getting better over time. You can tell the developers really care, they are great at updating and listening to players wants and needs. If you like games like Banished you'll love this one, it's like Banished but with a Fallout twist. Definitely worth adding to your library!

Absolutely Fantastic game, and for it being honestly quite well made, and well optimized, even tho it's Early Access, I personally believe it is still worth the $15.

Pros:
-Fantastic Devs who respond to discussions fairly quick
-Optimized really well
-Customization ability for games make it nice for the easy-goer and the Hardcore alike

Cons:
-Once you get to a certain amount of people, you hit a roadblock making it VERY difficult to continue expanding, if not impossible.
-There isn't really a "Post-apocalyptic" feel to the game past the point of ruins and Raiders.

And here's my review.. i have not played it as much as i would like to but it's a great game.

life is difficult for everyone and if life isn't difficult than somethings wrong with you. not everyone has a perfect life.
so the developer is doing a perfect job at this game i will eventually play this game again.

and i will also be putting up let's play videos of this amazing game soon on my youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL_qWju-FcjAo2hK3xxYQFw/
But what i ask for in return is for people to subscribe to my channel. i have over 130 videos of games already.

Keep up the good work developer and this game will eventually be much better - you have alot of work to do as their are plenty of other games out there like this one.

It took me a bit to really get a hold of what I think about this game, even though the systems within the game itself aren't really that complex- especially by citybuilder standards. The reason for my degree of thought is that this game seems to be in a very unique situation where its foundation and its structure feel like competing priorities- a confusing statement that warrants further explanation to be sure.

The foundation of this game is a post-apocalyptic citybuilder- there is no currency: your building materials are scavenged from ruins around the map and trade is done via barter. The day-to-day resource management for citizen needs is a bit simplistic (such as do you use less efficient buildings that produce faster or more efficient buildings that produce slower), although I do give credit for a corpse management system that both exists in the first place and is more complex than Frostpunk's (which works well since like Frostpunk the hardship of the situation tends to make people die in droves). The game also has a player avatar leader system that reminds me of the more recent Tropicos- and comparatively speaking I'm disappointed the leader creation system isn't more nuanced (with things beyond setting your religion, like traits) but on the other hand Atomic Society actually uses the player character in the game world (you can have your leader scavenge, build, etc) as opposed to Tropico where your leader felt like little more than a walking production buff. If this was all the game was, it would merely be mediocre.

However, on this foundation lies what I consider the actual structure of the game: beliefs, social issues, and the management of both. Each citizen has a belief system (typically a religion) that they belong to, and those who follow your set one are more likely to follow and enforce your set laws. You can encourage belief in your views through either education/propaganda or coercion. The laws in this game are entirely focused around social issues ie issues that can classify an individual into a group (gay? vegetarian? drug user? murderer? etc.) and for each social issue you can pick from a set of four punishments ranging from execution to short prison sentence, tolerance, or encouragement. I'm generally positive about this system as although it does restrict the range of laws even possible to implement within the game using the system, it results in a much more interesting choice than Tropico's binary edict system ever did. This choice is made all the more interesting by the context of the game (and is an example of synergy as opposed to the competition I will touch on later) where punishing someone for anything takes them out of the workforce- not a great thing for a post-apocalyptic society- so the more severe the punishment the more of a price you pay for your version of order.

However, now is where I get to what I was talking about in regards to competition between the foundation and the structure- for I personally feel that the law and belief system is the unique selling point of this game- but for such a small independent developer the logistical requirements of having decent traditional citybuilder mechanics takes time and effort away from that. Yes a society needs to have economic stakes at play to make a legal system matter more, but every citybuilder in existence has an economic system, not every citybuilder has a legal system. The developers previously stated that they regarded the three pillars of their game to be resource gathering, keeping people alive, and keeping things running efficiently- but I would say pillars need to actually support something or otherwise they serve no purpose, and those pillars should be supporting the player's pursuit of their vision of an ideological utopia built upon the ashes of the old world. To that end, although it is late in the game (no pun intended), I feel that the developers ought to embrace the system they have created and set it free- even to what might be perceived as extremes like laws in regards to flagellation/sadomasochism (basically the same thing and merely dependent of the context imo), blood sport, ritual sacrifice (both human and otherwise), and more. A player will generally be more interested in creating a post-apocalyptic Sodom than setting up yet-another-production-chain.

Still, even if the developers don't or are simply unable to heed such advice, I consider this a solid little citybuilder with some unique features that in my opinion make it worth the current non-sale price of $15.

An interesting City Builder game.

You are in control of the Town Leader (can be customized male/female, clothes, religion...) who can do everything much faster than the normal citizens, and he has no needs to fulfill. He can marry though and have children.
There are 9 types of maps: wasteland, canyon, dunes, forest, floodplain, valley, tundra, iceberg and summit.
I played on moderate difficulty level. On custom it is possible to adjust a few settings, including despawn time of dead bodies.

You start with 50 people and you try to create a stable city balancing 5 bars:
- water
- food
- health
- house
- entertainment
while you get a constant influx of new people who replace those who die for various reasons.

The game presents you some "issues" which you have to choose how to handle:
- murder
- prostitution
- slavery
- euthanasia
- vegetarians
- transgender
- drug users
- cannibalism
- homosexuality
- patriotism
There are 6 ways to react to these: execution, flogging, short/long prison, tolerate and encourage
I ignored all of them by simply not choosing any reaction except to murder, slavery and cannibalism which I punished with long prison. With this decision and the constant influx of new citizens, my population was growing and the 5 bars (water, food…) were average.

There is also a belief system.
People can have many different religions (including unknown or atheist) and for some reason the game wants you to do something with this aspect too, because only those who have the same religion as the Town Leader will help enforcing the law, which I find unrealistic. There are 3 ways to react: educate, torture and exile.
Toward year 3 or 4 of the colony, I chosen to educate them but I am not sure what impact it had. I had all this time only one Enforcer outpost with 3 employees. Maybe with more laws I would need a bigger “police”. Now I see there is also a Goals list with 7 goals. One of them being to enact at least 6 Laws…
When I started the game, I had the option to disable attacks. The game recommended to do that and I am happy I followed the advice because the first two years I struggled to bring water and food production up to average. Would have been quite bad to have my buildings destroyed. For those who are up to the challenge, there are also defense buildings: weapon smith and guard towers. But the fight is resolved through story options, no visible combat takes place.

The game allows to zoom in and see details of each citizen, but is really not needed.
Once when I built the Wind turbine, I noticed a battery was produced but I could not find it in the store. Batteries are needed to upgrade buildings.
So, I started to watch what happens and I discovered that after the battery is produced, a guy will carry it to the store.
This guy (Jim James, 68 y old male – he was archeologist before the war), was half on his way to the store but decided he needs to go and enslave somebody. He got a young woman. Then he went to theater to rise his enjoyment and then he went back to work, with the battery in his inventory. I was hoping to see what happens if he dies while working, but when his health need reached 0, he went to the hospital and got treatment. Meanwhile the other missing battery appeared in the store. I gave up following Jim James. Later he was in the prison. Not sure what happened to the slave as the game doesn’t offer the possibility to find such details easily.

I like that I can ignore the punishment system the developers created.
Now that my town is 5 years old, I can let it run at max speed and do nothing.
But there is still a lot to do for those who like to create bigger cities and try various scenarios.
My next map will be in a cold biome.

This game has great potential if you like survival and city builder games.
For the full release there has to be more content and goals (e.g. a capaign or something), but for now I had my fun playing with the early access fact in mind.

What I really liked and what i want to see more in the game is the mechanic of crime punishment. You have to decide what to do with criminals and set different rules for different crimes. This could be expanded on other parts of the post apocalyptic society to add more depth to the game.

This game is sad and depressing and it's exactly what you're looking for.

The gameplay is fun. The characters roaming about a little corny, but the aspects of building a new society are enough to keep you invested. It certainly has worked for me so far.

More mods would be cool, I couldn't imagine what this game would be like with the full force of the community tweaking and modding it.

Great game, just buy it!

When I first purchased this game, I have to admit, my initial judgement of it was not favorable. The game was slow and plodding as it was so resource intensive. Saving took several minutes, for example. But, as the years passed, the devs overcame these obstacles and created a fairly decent game. To be certain, it isn't yet completed, but in its current state, it is definitely worth the money. I would recommend getting the game now before it leaves early access as I imagine they will be asking much more for it once completed.
The game mechanics aren't significantly different than any other city builder. However, it should be noted that passing laws does significantly change the way the game runs and how rapidly/slowly your city develops. Finding the right balance will be a matter of trial and error, but you should figure out what works best for your particular strategy within a few tries.
The devs, throughout the whole process of creating this game, listened to the feedback offered by the players. I know this as I can see some of my own suggestions in the current version (likely suggested by others as well, but you get the idea). There are still some things that need work, as should be expected for an early access game. There are also some loose ends that need to be wrapped up to make the game complete.
Ok, for the details:
Here is what I like about the game:
I like that I can choose whether or not to use the raiders story arc.
I really like the trade system as a concept, more on that later.
I like the notifications. It is a bit distracting at first, but later you learn to appreciate it. Unlike many other games where the notifications are in a small box in a corner of your screen which can be easily missed, the notifications in this game are in the middle of your screen where you can't miss them and float to the top of your screen and disappear.
I like that resource gathering places respawn their resources after a time. Further, you can set up for yourself how long that duration is to make the game harder or easier for your personal preference. HOWEVER, and I am certain that even if the devs like this idea, it is likely too late to make such a drastic change to the game, I think it would be better if the resource spot, when emptied, would crumble and disappear forcing the scavengers to locate new sources which would spawn on the map randomly.
The artwork is very well done. The buildings are not too fancy yet not so run down looking that it makes them look bad.
I think the legacy addition to the game is very cute, though superfluous. It does nothing for the game as all your spouses and children do is live, work and die. They really don't add any advantages or disadvantages to the game. It is simply a cute thing to do.

Here are some things I believe detract from the game:
The raider system. It is far too simple. I understand that the devs don't want to create a more complex one for whatever reason, but I have to admit, it would be fun to watch the raiders get their butts kicked by the townspeople and guards. But, as it is right now, it is far to easy to defeat the raiders. All you have to do is build and staff more guard shacks. There are no opportunities to negotiate with the raiders except on their terms. This should be modified to allow the opportunity for peace or even have the raiders join the city. New raider clans can spawn later to keep the arc going.
Trade is far too simplistic. Each resource should have its own value. As it stands right now, all resources are equal value and all trades are virtually identical. You trade 50 water you get 30 scavenged logs. You trade 50 fruit and veggies, you get 30 of whatever. You trade 50 of anything, you get 30 of whatever. Water is FAR more valuable, in my opinion, than scavenged clothes, for example. This is something that certainly needs to be overhauled. Otherwise, there really is not need for trade other than to reduce what is in your storage.
I don't like that there is nothing to do with that message found in game which tells about a guy with evidence that the nuclear war was the result of a conspiracy. It's like, "So, what?" Once you have read it, it simply stays on the map and serves no further purpose. At least, none that I have yet found.
I also think there should be more culture building than just a chapel, theater and tavern. Makes it far too simplistic to increase the needs bar if all you have to do is add one more of each of these buildings.

I have also found a small problem. It is something that happens rarely, but has happened to me at least three times. When I have placed a building at the same moment that a message pops up, say the annual save game message or one of the raider messages or whatever. It seems to freeze the game. I don't know if this is just purely my bad luck or if this something that can be fixed. But, since there are no auto-saves in this game, one can potentially lose an entire year's work and growth. It has happened to me twice with the annual save and once with the raiders.

Overall, I have to say I have enjoyed many hours of game play on various maps. I know that the devs are planning on making at least one more major update soon and am looking forward to it. I am sure that once that update is final, there will be only minor tweaks and bugfixes needed to make this game a very good one. Hopefully the devs will allow modding as I can see the potential for many excellent mods created by the many great modders in the Steam community. This is a game that, like modded Banished, will be one people will keep in their libraries for decades.

A great little game well worth it's price, even moreso if you get it on sale. It's akin to frostborne, but in my experience, much more precise in what it sets out to do, and is a great example of some of the games that have come out of Early Access. Also, the devs are fucking stellar. Small team, and absolutely salt of the earth in the best way. If I could buy it again I would.

Necroscourge
Necroscourge

This game is pretty boring and poorly designed. Here is the core game loop, you set the game to 6x speed and have your leader do all of the hard work while your good for nothing citizens walk at a snails pace and quickly die leaving your entire city unmanned. You'll have tons of crematoriums but they will just happily watch your city fill up with dead. It's just sad.

Game is far from finished, devs lost interest and are planning to abandon this game.
Its clearly unfinished and needs way more work. It's just a money grab for these guys. he says he wants to make more games... :/ I mean, can you finish your first please?? At this price the game is way overprices!!! you can buy vallheim for example and have way more fun with a more finished game then this piece of crap

So I bought this game believing i might hate it. I've been really bored and find most games aren't great at holding my attention.

This game ... this game has me hooked and I can't stop playing. I absolutely love the themes, the design, the fact that real world situations are factors. They didn't skirt around what it would be like to live in a post apoctalyptic world and I find myself stuck in it. My only hope is for more interactions and things to do as it leaves early access. Different stylized buildings? Who knows just more of this is all i want at the moment and i'm glad i bought this game.

Heavily recommended worth the price tag hands down one of the best survival simulation games i've played.

Got boring quick. Doesn't take long to exhaust the research tree and just repetition after that. It's not a typical building game as people just keep showing up to populate the village no matter what choices you make. The game attempts to elicit an emotional response by adding required social decisions, which include the subsequent punishments, around hotly contested human rights issues, but these failed to engage me. The whole game seemed boring to me, only having control over one "leader" to control to do the scavenging seemed way too slow than it had to be. I had to force myself to play on for a while to see if it would improve for me and it didn't. I didn't have expectations of something more than a casual city builder but this hits way below the mark for me. *edit*I asked for a refund but was declined because I played too long giving it a chance to improve. It doesn't.

The Entire Game took me only 5 hours with one run Lasting 8 years in game and I had already got everything. I definitely need more information on how many people are under arrest, unemployed or dying/ dead. You should definitely add. This issue could be resolved by a census going around, the resources are scarce but enough to keep you going, unless the game is on X6 speed the game is practically pointless and feels sluggish as hell. You need actual resources from scrap collectors and not just unkowingly putting them in the inventory at random. I just need more info on screen and I'd much rather a smoother, more slick design than it just being in the centre of the screen all the time cause you see these things a lot. Just keep it permanantly small on the side. The legacy system feels like a half assed attempt at making you feel like you actually have a family and will die and have to switch to a different character (that of heritage or marriage), the "Mansion" looks super underwhelming and I'd rather live in the commoners luxury skyrise apoartments. Definitely needs a more in depth people simulation for things like weapons and clothing, each person having their personal weapon or clothing being editable. Or just weapon if that has technical limitations. Other than that fun to play.

OK. I enjoy this game. Go figure? Crude graphics. Simple & basic post nuclear war devastation "reclaim the surface" settlement needs. Logical. There are features that require the player to recognize and use to really boost your ability to keep the settlement in hygiene, water, food, shelter, community and all important resource gathering and repair. Lots of fun.
MY COMPLAINT IS; I, for some reason, cannot successfully save. This means you play a very long game to the end or you wasted your time with a saved result.

This game was 6 yrs in the making by a small but dedicated team.
Very basic but polished and a great first game for this team.

Multiple maps and difficulties to keep you entertained for hours with a hint of micromanaging to boot.
The game-play is not combat orientated but uses raiders in a tower defence element to add a bit of an extra challenge.
If you like building settlements and at times a challenging survival mode.. then this is a great game.

The devs are responsive and for me atleast.. gave me several hints when I got stuck which allowed me to complete all achievements. (my fault for making the error of trying to play the game like others)

All in all a very well rounded game that in my opinion far exceeds some of the bigger games from larger gaming development companies.

AAA for a job well done.

Feels like a half finished game. I played for less than an hour and got several achievements which are easily achievable yet state i was one of only 3% of players who got them which proves 97% of players open this game and close it before actually accomplishing a single thing, which in itself should reflect the quality of the game and how long you would play before being dissatisfied.

Пересушенная котлета
Пересушенная котлета

Very boring. Game mechanics are very stupid, like regenerating resource such as car wreck, or a car battery giving lifetime electricity upgrade tor a residential building. Resource obtaining is also crazy stupid, the are no separate production lines, you just scavenge any ruins, and you can't select different type of resource, it either a single one, or everything!!

dang just wasted $16 on this buggy game. Too much lags and sometime characters wont move at all. The justice system is crap. A person who believes in ur system still doing crime and he was a guard who had a decent home but went to murder someone even after getting a job and home. His needs were all full and dint show if he had issues.. Its just random .. and also no matter how many builders hut and repair shack i put, eventually i as leader have to go to all building sites my self to start the building as well as repair everything that shows are decaying. I check on one of the repair shack that was right next to a decaying building and see they are going to repair but the guy was just standing and not moving at all and the building breaks down. This bugs needs fixing mainly where people just stand and do nothing. even the leader sometimes dont move at all. Ive beaten the raiders hard. most of the time they decide not to attack as my guards towers are covering all areas. resources collection are ok but sometimes they take forever on specifics. Over all when u start a game all goes well after after 4-5 years buildings will break down no matter even if one building is surrounded by multiple guard towers. To be careful i have to build a guard tower first then repair shack then builders shack then latrines then medical tent and then buildings for living.. that way at least guards can gather weapons and builders reaches zone on time. but still it will i guess long time for fixing these bugs.

If you see on sale for 99c by all means. But you are purchasing the beginnings of a game even at this late stage. Upgrade paths are maxed out shortly after starting a new game. The passing of laws is all but inconsequential . If you do play it save your resources and don't try to police any laws. I played it. But I don't think you should.

Evilreaver

If you like city-builders, you'll probably get your money's worth from Atomic Society.

I really want to recommend this game, but I can't. The mechanics are very shallow, and a lot of the choices are very obviously 'correct'. There are UI annoyances (you have to micromanage your leader, and the game likes to unpause on its own). There is virtually no research/upgrades/progression (every building has exactly one upgrade to it; there's no social progress or pushback on ideals/etc, everyone just goes along with whatever you say). The 'research' consists of unlocking less than a dozen buildings. It's often not clear why your settlement won't grow. Virtually none of the systems/mechanics intermesh in any way. The trade dialog stinks.

It's a pretty simple city builder, BUT it is very competently executed. There are no major bugs and scant few minor bugs. The graphics are decent and it plays well, and the tutorial does a good job getting you into the game. The various maps play very differently and require different strategies. I got about 10 good hours of the game, and I will probably play some more to get the mod unlocks.

If the game were in early access and there was more depth incoming, I would recommend the game completely-- but it's not. It's released and there's (afaik) no more depth incoming.

Imagine SimCity 2000 set in something like the Wasteland universe with 50% more jank and a single hero unit you can control to do a lot of the building and resource gathering much faster than the NPCs. That's Atomic Society.

Is it the best game ever? No, not at all. But if you want a post-apocalyptic city builder your choices are limited, and the game is worth about $5 more than what they're selling it for (even without a sale) so just go ahead and buy it. It's worth the $15 to support an indie developer doing their best to make something fairly original that isn't just yet another battle royale or MOBA, and you get a decent game too.

There's a lot I could say about this game but I'll keep it simple.

It's a apocalyptic civ game that has a lot to due with the more social aspect of surviving in a town.

Here's the NOT so simple explanation.

The game is fun, it was hard to find a game that doesn't just focus on combat in an apocalypse survival situation. This game is more of a keeping your people happy with the laws and your own societal construct rather than gather this resource and grind for it constantly. This isn't your regular apocalyptic survival game. It brings a different approach, rather than doing your basic survival, it gives you the chance to create a lifestyle in a survival scenario. The devs worked their asses off for this and it's another reason I support it. Highly recommended game.

ericquig

There is no real game here. You just keep building the same things over and over to raise the level of the things your people need. That's it. It is extremely shallow and one dimensional and repetitive.

GHOST

When I bought the game I was expecting atomic warfare at some point but I guess not. It's just a build and survive type game and that really makes me mad because there is nothing to play for or gain from this other than see your town thrive or perish. Creativity goes a long way for a game such as adding in basic warfare, talking to civilians and where you can react to whatever they say, vehicles!? Where is the research to make your own vehicles or aircraft? No underground mining or construction, I would like to have built a bio lab and worked on making people monsters or animal hybrids and no Atomic bombs!? Its like you make a game not wanting to make money off it. What was the point of all this?

In a game where you advertise that you set laws you should have included debates, arguments, which people lie, cheat and steal, they come against you, create some chaos and drama here! If you see a potential group threatening your way of life you can either cope or annihilate them! You can be a diplomat or a brutal leader. Am I making sense here? I hope this game improves over time and you just think about adding in some fun and creative stuff. I want to support this game but its a wasteland out here!

I was kind of excited for this game. Saw reviews were mixed but figured, eh I'll give it a go.

It needs a ton of work. Just setting up is a garbled mess. Make a leader, okay fine. This is the only person you control. Um... k. And can salvage. Enough stop. I've played enough city builders to know the "leader" doesn't and shouldn't be doing all tasks. Because you, the overlord presiding over the populace, is already the GD leader! The tutorial is long, and purely, read this do this. Which worked for games like Banished and such but this... I clicked on my leader, (me) and had to click through the tutorial to figure out how to deselect myself. All the while WHOLE DAYS are vanishing at x1 speed but 1 night cycle at day 20. wtf?!?!?

This concept has a TON of potential but I had more fun with the incomplete Kingdoms Reborn than this.

The landscapes look great, not perfect, but when your 64 bit avatar people are moving about it, it looks exponentially bad juxtaposed to one another.

I could rant for longer than I actually played for how quickly I was discouraged to go on. I hope more work is put into it.

Rekas

This is such a weirdly neutered title. You are DEPENDENT on your starting character, who is the only person that can reasonably keep you in all the supplies you are DESPERATELY going to need. Your other villagers are awful at their jobs and cannot come close to your weird android ass leader. They are the biggest burden. There are games that I think aren't balanced well when it comes to resources and I think this is the worst I've played that wasn't a legitimate p2w whaling game like World of Tanks or War Thunder.

I've never had a game like this before where the death spiral happened before I even had the first building down. I would go into more detail here, but I feel like I already did enough work giving this game like $15.

leeroy5000
leeroy5000

Atomic Society has some nice and interesting elements, however, it just has some poor execution overall. Some incredibly frustrating mechanics around migrants and managing population is just plain strange and fails to provide any real control that you would have considering you're making a wasteland settlement (ie. can hang the population at will, but no fences or ability to make a basic stockade??!!).

Overall, there is just better out there with little real help available of the forums. Better off looking elsewhere.

Simply
Simply

I have my gripes with the game, (especially the weird dependence on your main character), but they can probably be best summed up by other reviews. However this game is an interesting spin on the city building genre and it was developed by a small team of first-time game developers, if you already like city builders or the post-apocalyptic theme then you'll probably like Atomic Society and I'd say it's worth a buy.

So, I would like to commend the developer(s) for this game. It shows a lot of effort and a the great base for a game is here. Buuut, for a released game, its too shallow, as many have pointed out.
The tech list has about 10 items that can be unlocked with no prerequisite at all, just waiting, there are almost no production chains, the upgrades consist on only one upgrade for each building and always with the same item, batteries, people are just a number that goes up and down with no real meaning and almost no impact on the game, etc.
So, yeah, the game is not bad, but is not at all a complete game. I cant imagine playing dozens of hours to this game. So I cant recommend it as a full release.

LP

This feels like two halves of two different games glued together. It's got Tropico-style decrees which, let's be honest, aren't a very deep or engaging part of Tropico (and Tropico did it better than Atomic Society). It's also got resource collecting and building stuff to keep your citizens alive and possibly happy in the style of a lot of survival city builders, but it's very janky about just what counts as meeting someone's needs. It's not completely unplayable, but it's not good either.
