feels oddly too fast-paced and is exceptionally chaotic throughout pretty much the entirety of a run,
and i always felt like i wasn't doing *something* whenever i was doing *anything*.
the time-crunch forces you to choose between planting and caring for crops or exploring for upgrades and seeds...

i know there's an item that makes the day longer because i saw it but was unable to afford it at the time,
but i'm not sure that that makes up for how tedious yet simultaneously anxiety-inducing this game feels early on.

i'm going to go through the wiki to see if that feeling i have could ever be diminished with later upgrades,
and i might even change my recommendation if i find anything;
but even if i do, i can't really say that an upgrade based on rng is a good solution to make the game feel less... upsetting to play.

If you're into fast-paced, bullet-hell, action rogue-lites (In the vain of Realm of the Mad Gods, Enter the Gungeon, ect.) you'll like this game. This is a really fun and really solid entry in the genre. Highly reccomended

Absolutely love this game. You will very rarely have a run which isn't chaotic and stress inducing (in a good way) but once you think you've mastered the madness you can kick it up to the next difficulty so you can start it all over again!!

GREAT ROGUELITE! The contrast in gameplay between having to farm and having to fight is excellent, and the town sections between are the moment to catch your breath you need!

A fantastic roguelike with a unique enough twist. A few things that should be mentioned right off the bat is the lack of nuance between zones and enemies, bosses become repetitive and easy much more quickly than games like isaac (especially the final boss), and the farming system is not very fleshed out (it feels a little bit tacked on but it is still fun). Those three negatives are fairly minor in my opinion. The variety in guns and mods make up for the games short comings. I feel that I could get many more hours out of it.

P.S. the Crow is probably the most interesting character but he probably simplifies the game a little too much

I was hoping for something solid due to a recommendation by a friend. For context, I've played and won at every other major rogue-lite from Hades to RoR2 to deadcells. I loved all those games, but by comparison, this one comes across as pretty meh. It has a solid shooter segment of the game, and the farming can be quite fun as well. Those elements are steadily destroyed by poor balancing, the lack of variety, and visual noise.

Let's start with the balancing issues. For farming, it revolves around watering, which serves as the choke point for that entire system. There aren't any realistic or viable solutions to this chokepoint. Even with cows, the water tractor, and rain scrolls, you'll still find your garden limited mostly by watering. This makes passive income upgrades the key to snowballing in this game. The only way to get them is via roaming, so the majority of most runs involve running from area to area and killing enemies. Cool, right? Well, that's where repetition becomes a glaring issue.

The roaming is identical game to game. Areas are exactly the same from game to game. I understand the aesthetic being similar, but this game goes further, having the same 3 or 4 enemy formations in the same biomes, over and over and over. Yes, camp locations change but you run through them in the exact same way. This makes the roaming become tedious quickly.

This is further compounded by the lack of different weapons to choose from. There's 14 including the starter weapon, but several weapons play exactly the same as other ones. The starter weapon and the spud rifle are identical. The jackrabbit(Shotgun) is the same as the shallotgun(two round shotgun.) In reality, there's only 4-5 viable weapons, and the others are awful without specific mods to augment them. This makes runs feel same-ey since you'll be using the same weapons again and again.

The issues don't stop there. The characters are very imbalanced. That's a problem because many roguelites offer great run variety through character choices like Risk of Rain 2. This allows each game to feel different from the start, but that's not the case in this game. There are only 2 different characters really. Dandelion and everyone else. Dandelion has a floaty movement system, flight, and a strange progression system. They're a fun character, but they're also very undertuned. For everyone else, they live out their lives in Thyme's shadow like anthills under a mountain.

For some games, that's no big deal, but all the characters play the same in this one. They all use items the same, have the same starter weapons, and don't have any secondary abilities or ammo systems. This means Thyme is just defacto the best character, and everyone else is a challenge mode by comparison. Not in a fun, interesting way either. It's just raw power.

My last complaint comes from the visual noise. While the bullets are all the same color, the enemies are not. There aren't any solid lines between objects, so everything sort of bleeds together. That wouldn't be a problem if they limited the number of enemies or objects on screen. That's the opposite of what happens here. Eventually, it becomes impossible to tell what's going on when 100+ crops are bouncing and blinking all over the place with 10+ allies chasing you. I looked up videos of the world record score holders, and even they mentioned how they couldn't tell what was going on in the later parts of the game.

For those reasons, this game feels like two different games smashed together then balanced poorly. If you want a tighter, more responsive, and cleaner bullet hell roguelite, go buy Enter the Gungeon, Monolith, Streets of Rogue, Nuclear Throne, Nova Drift, or even Skelly Celest. For the farming, Terraria or Stardew Valley will treat you well.

In the end, this game devolves into a snowball simulator after you get through the meh early game.

Works perfectly on Manjaro Linux.
As most other reviews say, the mixture of genres here works so perfectly.
Love the extremely varied farming. Love the bullet hell and varied enemies. Love the exploration and always random layout.
Just get it.

Just discovered this wild game recently - for me, it's a great mix of roguelike elements in a different format. Plenty of pros here! From the game's addictive loop of exploring biomes during the day for seeds, supplies, and buffs, then at night you return to the farm and try to harvest/replant your crops while defending from waves of enemies. The game plays great on a controller, and its bullet hell elements feel like just the right amount of difficult without flooding the screen incessantly. Atomicrops also has quite the longevity, with tons of meta-progression and increased risk/rewards as you move into tougher years.
My only real con is as a gamepad user, the game take a bit to get used to when things get hectic. Basically you're constantly trying to replant crops while defending your farm at night, and in the process are likely to place crops in the wrong places (and prevent the 2x2 bonus). Not a huge deal honestly, but it's my only major gripe.
Would recommend to those that like challenging bullet-hell roguelikes, and possibly even those that are into the latest arena shooters like 20 mins till dawn, etc.

Don't bother. Game is poorly balanced.

Guns are FAR too expensive. You're gonna get maybe 70 on the first day, and they sell for 60 if you're lucky. After that, you'll have maybe 800 while they're selling for 1600 or 3300.

Take a hit? Good luck getting enough roses to buy the heart beets to get the health back.

Spend your days trying to plant crops (only real way to make money) but have to till ground, then fight the damned weeds all the while getting shot at during the daytime because moles are everywhere.

It's such a giant mental strain.

Guns should not be this expensive. Someone make a mod where all guns are 60 at the start and you upgrade them, and moles have 1/2 spawn rates or lower.

Seriously, game would be a solid 8/10 if you could actually afford ways to defend yourself and didn't have so much f***ing busywork just trying to keep up with the absurd prices.

4/10.

Ever dreamt of a twin-stick shooter / farming simulator / time management / action-roguelike game in a colorful and quirky dystopian setting, where you shoot anthropomorphic bunny bandits for loot, summon badass tractor-nukes and marry mutants? Well, "Atomicrops" got you covered.
Never believed that this oddball broth of a game can manage to create a coherent gameplay loop, but it does!
The controls are quite a handful to get used to, but once they do, you will be rewarded with a challenging and fruitful endeavour. Managed to defeat the final season boss once or twice, but there are still a lot of unlockables and challenges to go for.

Bugged out and wouldn't let me progress in the tutorial. Dumb farmer kept telling me it was getting to be dark and I should go to defend my land. Pretty fun roguelike/farming sim/bullet hell that is actually quite difficult. There's a lot of replayablilty, as changing up strategies becomes more important as the game gets harder, and the difficulty scales pretty well. It's a challenge without feeling too impossible (at least after many, many failures). Art style is really interesting as well. Also if you get far enough you get cats AND you can pet the cat. 10/10.

Not my cuppa tea. I prefer my roguelikes to be more roguelite, which is what this game claims to be, but I guess I didn't play far enough because I didn't see or unlock any permanent upgrades. The game certainly didn't feel very fun or rewarding without those things to strive for. I played to day 3 a few times, at which point I would lose all my crops and die with no sense of progression at all. I'd make maybe a couple hundred game bucks but a new gun cost a thousand, so it felt just unattainable. Woulda refunded, but shucks wouldn't ya know it took me 2 and a half hours to decide this game wasn't for me.

Took me 52 hours to 100% the achievements. If you don't want to do the achievements this game will last you about half that time, but I really recommend the achievements. I legitimately had fun getting them, even if I had to look up a guide every now and then cuz I was like "ok but how DO I kill the moon?"

The thing about it that I really hated was the ear cancer tier music, but I like playing roguelites with the audio muted while listening to podcasts so it just made me glad that I wasn't missing out on anything. As soon as I turned off the sound I got over my urge to refund Atomicrops.

Very much worth your money, especially if you get it on sale like I did!

I think this is one of the strongest roguelikes out there for having such a weird gimmick about it. Every mechanic in this game is concise, they each serve their purposes clearly and significantly. Though being heavily combat-focused, I think that the game is strongest when you're both farming and fighting at the same time. Lots of juicy sound effects and visuals make doing the same tasks over and over not feel so repetitive. Strategy in this game is complex, and many routes can be taken and characters subtly but intently round these strategies off nicely ( except Dandelion, I think )

If you like the classic roguelike shooters such as Isaac, Gungeon, Nuclear Throne, or even Risk of Rain, I definitely recommend this game. If you're expecting farming with some combat, then try expecting a difficult combat game with some farming.

This game is a blast. One problem I often have with farming games is a feeling that I need to optimize things, causing me to get bogged down, this game throws all of that out the window. You have little time to think and optimize, you have to act quickly and make micro-decisions throughout the play through.

It's super chaotic and fun, doesn't punish you for sub-optimal farming, but is still challenging. Can't want to see how the game progresses with more years (currently at year 2).

It's enjoyable, I haven't unlocked all characters yet but I finally got to season 4. I love the challenge and the RNG, what to be surprised with when it comes to stats, guns and gun mods and any perks to help you progress your farm or slain enemies. The little achievements you get at the end of the nuclear season depending on what you already don't have back at your base.

Even then, your base is quite unique. You get permanent boosts on how many cornucopias you have leftover to spend on the roaches(?) or bugs you rescue throughout your game. What they can offer can benefit on what you've purchased.

Plus, cats! YOU HAVE KITTY CATS IN YOUR BASE. I LOVE IT.

It's a good game, lacks some variations as its a game mostly around do and re-do the same thing over and over, but at least to me the experience is not rewarding enough, its more frustrating than rewarding, the upgrades which you take some effort to buy quickly becomes super expensive, but at least till now, i dont feel like they improved the gameplay in a good way, it's mostly a generic upgrades and some are super boring actually.
Still, it's quite fun if you just play 4 fun

Atomicrops is a lot of fun, despite a few big issues.

The game alternates between running around the overworld, run'n'gunning enemies and collecting upgrades / seeds, and then returning to your farm to plan and harvest whilst defending against waves of intruders.

The core gameplay-loop is satisfying, and everything you do feeds into other parts. The controls are responsive, and the game has a charmingly creepy visual flair to it. Combining, defending and then harvesting your crops is satisfying, and so is the thus earned spending of cash in town for new things to play around with. The Upgrades are varied, and quite a few of them can make otherwise mundane parts of the game a core component of your earning strategy.

So the baseline of the game is fairly solid, and I do recommend it on that basis. But there are a few issues, some of them quite major:

- The game does not have a strong visual fidelity, or to put it in a less pretentious manner: It is soemtimes VERY hard to tell what the fu*k is going on. Enemies, your character and even your crops constantly wiggle and animate, all while increasingly large amounts of bullets cover most of the screen. I often take damage in the game from sources I couldn't even identify.

-Some of the weapons suck. A lot. And in town, you get to pick 1 out of 2, meaning you'll often be stuck with a piece you don't really like. Since statupgrades are, largely luckily not entirely, tied to buying a new gun, this can be really annoying. Foregoing a purchase not for any strategic reason, but because you dislike the weapon, shouldn't really happen.

- The game has a very harsh "Do bad, keep doing bad" curve going on, which can be frustrating. A lucky, or unlucky, set of first drops can majorly influence how your run will be going. And the stranglehold RNG has on the difficulty curve often annoys me. How much of a pro shooter you have to be often entirely depends on whether the game feels like throwing you a bone or not. Certain seed drops (Sunflowers and Heart Beets) can secure a season by themselves.

Again, the game is fun. I just feel like it is very much "Okay" rather than "Good". Some balancing, or the option to turn down RNG a bit would def. help.

Not only does this game go for a very ambitious fusion of gameplay (Zombies Ate My Neighbors x Stardew Valley as a Roguelite), but manages to nail it all with a unique personality that oozes out in all aspects, from the surreal soundtrack to the 90s style gross-out aesthetic. On top of that, the gameplay is surprisingly deep with various build focuses and super challenging but fair. One of the most underrated games I have played in recent memory and a great reminder of what made me fall in love with indie games in the first place.

This game saved my life.

I am 27.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiraling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand... my working hand... my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.

After learning of the severity of my self-inflicted damage, I was borderline suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man with no history of depression or anxiety. I have never had fits of rage, or been one to break down and cry, but I was in a low spot that just really buried me from being able to see the light on the other side.

Having nothing better to do, I searched for a game I could play, ONE HANDED while I recovered. I somehow stumbled upon this game and read some of the reviews. I decided that it had to be worth a shot... I must admit, I didn't beat the game, or play nearly as long as some of you. In fact, I may have only played this game a day or two.. With that being said, after doing so, I had a new found joy and hope for life. I was able to put behind me the pain and suffering that had been cast over me. I was able to experience other peoples joy and happiness. I was able to see the fruits of my "labor". I relaxed for 5 โ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅing minutes to this music long enough to realize that I was going to be okay.

After coming to that realization, I turned the game off, and I went back to work. It hurt my hand like hell but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so damn sorry for myself, and I became the father I needed to be in that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving as.
Today, I am close friend with my kids mother. We don't fight, or argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents, and friends.

I now have 3 kids. My third child is, wait for it, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my own separation, and we just stumbled in to each others life unexpectedly. We have been in a relationship for a year now, and are very happy together.

Moral of the story, you never know what life holds in store for you, and if I would have given up when all the odds were stacked against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Thank you

This is an interesting take on the Roguelike genre. Combining an arcade shooter with some light farming elements makes for unique experience where you have to carefully manage your time all the while enemies are constantly trying to kill you.

I originally went into this game for the art style and stayed for the gameplay, which left me wanting to improve so I can get better and more efficient with each run. The soundtrack is also really good and I would recommend looking into the composer, Joonas Turner, as he is very talented.

The learning curve for this game is a little steep at first, but once you get the hang of it, you can get some really fun runs with some of the upgrades and weapons you can get. However, the later difficulties of the game do turn into bullet hell which can be a turn off for some people, but there are certain upgrades you can grab to help mitigate this.

Overall this game is definitely worth the $15 price tag and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good rougelike.

I love this game. It's a great twin stick shooter with a fun strategic layer. The player has to explore a post-apocalyptic landscape while planting and harvesting crops, protecting them at night from enemies. The combat is well-tuned, the graphics are cute and distinctive, the music full of personality and atmospheric and the farming gameplay plays into the roguelite RNG mechanics, encouraging the player to develop their farm in one direction or another based on the perks they receive and the crops/livestock they find.

Strong recommend. Excited to see what the developer gets up to next!

This game is pretty rock solid, my only complaint is the start.

It takes a little getting used to, but year two is extremely difficult compared to year one.
Once you get the hang of it though, the years are not adding nearly enough difficulty.

Once you get past year two, you can easily make it through the rest of the years with practically no issue. Also, Thyme is an extremely overpowered character and certain builds allow for insanely easy runs.

First off, I'll mention that it works perfectly on Linux with Proton โ€” the experience was so seamless, I never would've guessed it's not native.

This isn't a farming simulator in a conventional sense, as the agriculture portion of the game becomes less important on higher difficulties, and you're reducing it to a bare minimum (at least that's my play style) in favor of roaming and attacking enemy camps. So, don't expect this to be "Stardew Valley but with guns". Nonetheless, crop farming is the essential and central theme of the game.

The core genre of this game is a roguelite, similar to Rogue Legacy and Undermine in a sense that there is a meta-currency to spend to improve the skills of the character, and has that item collection system like in The Binding of Isaac and Undermine, which can, similarly as in those games, lead to some really wacky and fun combinations which makes you excited and curious about which of the items you'll encounter in the current run. You can choose the difficulty level before starting a run, so you can avoid being overwhelmed by difficulty, but you can also choose to always play on the hardest difficulty if that's your thing. The soundtrack is original and awesome, makes the feel of the game unique. It can get repetitive, as the runs are pretty much the same, except that the enemies move faster and have more health (etc.) on higher difficulties, however, it doesn't feel repetitive while you're mastering the game, discovering new areas that you couldn't before, trying out different guns and so much more.

Overall, I recommend this game, it's a really complete and cohesive experience.

better than i expected.
good game.
7 or 8 out of 10.
could be better, but i mean it in a good way. there's room for improvement.
i would have like support for wider screens but that's ok. as i said there're areas for improvements but that doesnt mean the game falls short

I don't like top down shooters, but there is something about this game that just keeps me coming back.

Maybe its the cats, anthropomorphic vegetables, or raining murderous destruction upon all those who seek to do me and my crops harm with the biodegrader. Whatever it is, i fear I have a problem and need help to be able to get my life back on track instead of spending every spare minute I have chasing that nuclear winter high

Rogue-lite/like etc. and beyond are my favorite genre, always will be. I would say Binding of Isaac is my all time favorite, mostly on account of nostalgia. If i had to choose based purely on consistent, fun, minute to minute gameplay, Atomicrops is my first choice. The pacing, precision, and aesthetic are all 10/10. The design choices behind the upgrades, challenges, and gameplay loop are wholly unique and infinitely satisfying. In my 1xx hours, I have never been bored, felt cheated in death, or that victory came too easily. If you enjoy bullet hell, this is a heavenly choice.

This game has got it all. Tough combat, farm management, base management, item builds, roguelike, slowly unlocking mechanics, meta progression. Worth the price and more.

This game is a blast. The concept is brilliant and incredibly fun to play, and has great replay value. The upgrades and cats are satisfying to obtain. The characters are unique enough, some of them feels too similar. (other than oregacrow but he's DLC.) The "years" are a rewarding way of altering difficulty, and I enjoy doing daily runs to gain extra cornucopias. The achievements are great fun to achieve, a unique twist that can alter your runs and rewarding to get by giving you bonuses in your runs and adding a little decoration to your hub. Sometimes I wish that either you got more cornucopias or upgrades where cheaper, but that might just be me. (Who doesn't want upgrades.)
Definitely a great game for someone who wants a good challenge, and likes achievement hunting.

Very excellent twist on roguelike genre.
Refreshing experience. Good roster of characters.
Could do with a bit more roguelike attributes. And a little more item variety. Often youll have pretty much the same items as last run.
Solid pickup if on sale.
One of the easier roguelikes ive played. The gameplay loop is played through years, there are 10 years, and I am currently on year 9, beating pretty much every other year on the first time through.

Despite being a big fan of the rogue-like/twin stick genres, had a hard time clicking with this game. Some of the character designs are off-putting and being tethered to one location (Your crops) is less fun than the freedom that comes with exploration in other games. Tower defence mechanics ultimately hold it back. 2/5 Jiggles

Sqwiddy?
Sqwiddy?

If Stardew and Gungeon had a baby...

After 7 hours of playtime, I just beat the first year. The challenge this game brings is perfect, making the game fun, but also keeping you entertained and having you want to keep playing. The amount of variety this game has within the crops available to plant, the upgrades to help to survive and the guns and gun mods is also perfect.

I usually don't write reviews but this game deserved it, 10/10 for me.

Great game featuring an engaging mix of farming and combat which takes some time getting used to, but feels very rewarding once you get the hang of it!
Top notch Atmosphere, with a goofy yet well designed visual and audio styles, and a great OST to entertain you even after you're done with the game!

Never in my life have I seen so many puns...

probably the best twin-stick roguelite being that it does something unique and it does it VERY well
the art and sound direction is amazing too, being unique without being distinctly bad or trying too hard to stand out
very good game go play it

The game has a tedious progression system, sometimes you'll get hit by things rushing you from offscreen, the 4 zones you explore each playthrough lack variety, and yet it more than makes up for it with all the things it does right.

To be clear about this one thing: every game you'll finish awards you cornucopia's which is used as currency to buy permanent upgrades for future games. I despise this system, it locks out the hard modes behind a "farming" wall and progressively makes the game easier which is extremely undesirable. when i get better at the game i wish for a more challenging experience and this does the @#!$ing opposite.

that being said, i did finish all the achievements (156h)

wholeheartedly recommended

Oh wow do i love this game. It really took me by surprise, when i started i didn't think i would like the gungeon style aspect of this game. I was so wrong. This game is the perfect balance of fun, challenging, adventurous, and strategic. It takes a lot of investment to get good and to know what you're doing and what you want, I love that there are so many things to unlock and collect. I do well with games that have something to progress toward, and completing my garden was just enough motivation. Such a fun game, give it a try if you're skeptical i bet you'll love it.

Well well well... Great game and all. Cant rly say anything to change as a tip to the developers besides that there should be more content but for one that hasnt rly completed the game in its entirety (100% achievements) so no worries on that one. Keep up the happyness and the amazing work. Rly funny and inovativ game design. Much obliged.

I don't usually write reviews for games but this one is special to me.
Never have I ever played a game with so much character. It's a roguelike with a huge focus on farming to progress in the game. How did they manage to combine a farming game and a roguelike? Well, I don't know what to say other than "it just works".
The game may be very confusing at the start, but once you understand all the mechanics it's a blast to play.
I honestly can't explain how much fun I've been having with the game. The difficulty curve seems fair, the items are very fun to experiment with and once you get that perfect run, it's just a dopamine rush.
The art and the music just tie it all together in a very charming bundle.
Honestly, just buy the game. It's pretty cheap and there's a lot of enjoyment you can get out of it.

This game is going for "Stardew Valley mixed with Enter the Gungeon." Perhaps surprisingly, it works! This game is a llot of fun so far, and I plan on playing more. My only gripe would be the music, which fits the theme but can get repetitive. Overall, I recommend this game to roguelite fans.

First, a word of note: If you're looking for a laid-back farming sim, this is not that. Atomicrops is closer to Enter The Gungeon than Harvest Moon. But if that tickles your fancy, keep reading.

Atomicrops is weird. Very weird. Whether it's the premise, the visuals, enemies, and bosses, just off-kilter enough to catch the eye, or the downright surreal genre blending, this game is an absolute chimera.
The core loop is pretty simple. You go into the eight major zones outside the farm, clear camps to get upgrades, animals and seeds, then grow the seeds like usual. At night, enemies appear on the farm and attempt to eat existing crops. Once dawn comes, you get a Base Phase to buy new weapons or things like Bridge parts and chat up a group of potential Spouses at the cost of Roses. At the end of every 3 Days, the season changes and your yield is tallied for score and rewards.
As for meta-progression, you gain Cornucopias based on your haul that can be used on permanent upgrades (or cats). Personally, I found the progression only really gets good after clearing Year 3(the core Higher Difficulty system) due to the cornucopia rate just being too slow. A little bumping up of the bottom end would be more than welcome.
Once it gets going, and you start to understand the balance between farming and gunplay (which are more intertwined than you'd think at first), it's an absolute blast.

This is a game that's more in tune with a twin-stick shooter than farming, but Atomicrops manages to strike a stellar balance that has very little downtime.

This game is good, I wish I could give it an in-between rating though. Simply put, the farming mechanic is really tedious after a couple of runs and it gets old fast. The rest of the game is great, but the farming portion is meh.

Buneary
Buneary

I love Stardew Valley, and this game is so similar, except for the fact that it's a rougelike, bullet hell, with permadeath - that is to say that it's not similar at all. Well they do share the same theme of farming and has dates that you must bribe with flowers to marry you and join you on your murder spree. Also there's cats.

The major problems I have with the game is that the screen is so busy with animations and bullets its hard to tell where you are and to dodge. A lot of item descriptions are cryptic but that's pretty similar to Binding of Issac - which if you like that you will like this.
Definitely worth the price, or on sale. I also grabbed the DLC for more fun. After a win I was hooked, the mechanics get easier over time once you learn what you need to do.

I picked up this game at random and from the moment I launched it I fell in love.
The artstyle is absolutely incredible and beautifully animated, there's so much expressiveness in the characters, the environment, the enemies, everything! I adore the boss designs and how everything goes together. The music is AMAZING and makes me yearn for it to exist on spotify as well so I could listen to it on the go a lot more easily. It gives me a strangely reminiscent feeling of the Neverhood's OST, in its strange yet entrancing roughness and setting-fitting instruments. My friends love just watching me stream the game to them because the music is so fun, no matter how often you hear it.

The gameplay is easy to understand and once you get the hang of it it's just so satisfying to speed through the areas and do what you gotta do before returning to your farm to care for it. I've found that my brain fits perfectly into this fast-paced micromanagement environment, and auto-shoot while farming is an excellent QOL option that's been placed in the game. It doesn't take away from the difficulty, in my opinion, and is just a nice little addition.

I do think some aspects of the game are lacking, in particular enemy variety after subsequent playthroughs and area variety (having everything be in the same place every run so far has gotten a bit stagnant) It'd be neat if there could be certain runs that'd have special areas or altered versions of areas for some random variety that could bring a breath of fresh air and excitement to your average run. (Maybe an area that has enemies be on 2x speed but drop extra fertiliser or something?)

Though, despite some lacking variety the game is still absolutely worth your money.

YES

That is the simplest answer I can give to this question.

Why?

This game offers a ton of replayability and I mean a ton. If you enjoy rogue-like games (games where you start off with little and are forced to progress in short amounts, death after death), bullet-hell style game play, farming / crop management similar to Stardew Valley, town-building / restoration, permanent ability upgrades, and a variety of play styles done WELL mixed into one great experience? Yes. You want to try this game. The game can be punishing, but perseverance is key!
