highly recommend. as a suggestion, maybe add settings to like enable happiness or sickness and stuff like that.
love the game but would like to see bridges added at some point and away to make bows
This is a good game and will become a Great game if they keep updating it. I am updating my review. Since the new update I can no longer play the game. It says my video card is not good now. Now the game does not open or anything. I was really enjoying this game now it is useless.
A great game that stands out from the rest of the same type . I bought it thinking if it was no good I would refund it , I installed it and it was two weeks before I got chance to play and already two decent upgrades . There is already a lot to do in the game and updates are getting done every week , so if you like this sort of game I would recommend it . Another big plus for me is the developer does communicate and answer comments .
EDIT: Recommended with caution. The game is NOT without it's issues, but I enjoyed it for a few hours. Don't pay full price.
Not a bad game, but still in early access 2 years later and the last update was in March'22. The game could be really fun, but needs basic improvements such as better people management interface, menu tips, building a fence is horrible as you have to micro each foot of it, lots of guess work, cannot change starting location, troops are limited and hard to manage.
Happy I played it, but please continue to work on it. I'd love to revisit to find an awesome game.
Update: I went back to Banished for a comparison and both games offer their pros and cons. It made me appreciate some of the things in Bastide more. Banished is better overall, but here's a few things Bastide does offer:
1) Having combat is awesome although I wish we had more command over the troops and could build more than 5 troops per barrack.
2) Enjoyed the list of town folks, very easy to see and find people
It's a growing game with a solid base of improvements building up. Keep it going dev! this will stay fun!
Not there YET, but sooooo much potential and you can really detect the developers passion and love for this game to make it a game of great quality. Big thumbs up for that!!
I'm really enjoying this one. This game is a lot more enjoyable than I expected so far. The one thing is it seems to be running a bit hot, but the game is really fun to play so far. Keep up the good work.
Tried, 20 times.
Yes TWENTY times on brutal to survive the first winter. You can not.
The dev can not possible be unaware of this. There is no excusing this level of incompetence.
The hardest difficulty is the DEFAULT difficulty you are meant to play at.
The bugs, issues, balancing and design of the game will not allow you to survive it.
An early balance to these games is house/food production/resource gathering.
You add onto that medicine (Which should never, ever be an issue 1st season, let alone first year, it is)
You add onto that the insane stupidity of the farming, wheat, it does not show up anywhere in storage. How much do you have? no fucking clue and neither does the dev, 6 fucking months ive reported this. SIX MONTHS YOU ARE USELESS.
You add onto this the recent move to UE5, the sheer amount of issues that came with this could be forgiven, if it werent for the fact most of the new issues should never have been allowed to be on a playable version. Example, house upgrade costs, dont show. Want to figure out resource gathering to needs? Tough.
You add onto this buildings you have no clue how they actually affect your people, market for example.
You add onto this, toilets and camp fires, both of which are used by townsfolk, no clue at all if and how it affects them.
You add onto this gatherers, they pick random stuff, fine, but medicinal flowers, they pick the least and at most 11>12 a year. So you can heal on avg 10 people per year per gatherer. Which you have to place far away from each other and your town... You can see where this issue is with surviving in a survival game.
But wait, you say there is a structure that grows these? Yes, yes there is, but its a tier 2 structure so you need adv wood refining buildings up and running, which you can not as you do not have the people as...
You add onto the game invasions, on avg you loose 2 to 4 people per raid from 3 to 4 raids in the first year.
The rate of people replenishment is roughly equal to loses, so you loose 4 you might get those same 4 back before the next raid, essentially adding a slow bottleneck in pop growth.
You add onto that trying to keep people happy so they dont leave.
Bread, alcohol, better (more expensive) housing, firewood to keep the housing warm, clothing to keep people warm...
Too many jobs need manning to keep everyone happy and then winter comes.. Food production is shit. You make as much as you need through the year, all farms stop at winter so you are stuck with hunting and using up supplies. You can devastate your pasture animals, but they give FUCK ALL meat.
Oh and ALL the firewood is taken by just 1 house that needs it, if you have many, your people drop like flies. Make more you say? at 4 firewood per 1 log it takes 3 people filling the firewood building, 1 manning it and 2 cutting trees walking to and fro.. More the further the trees get cut back...
If you need that wood to expand or for other buildings that refine wood to other things...
If you can see by now, the population bottlenecks this game presents to the needs of the people for this specific style of game, its not possible. Too many are needed for basic hauling/gathering and the T1 and T2 stuff has you deciding at several points which is more important to produce, food or more resources for expanding or medicine and so on..
You will be lucky to get to low 20s in population by winter on brutal. This should be enough. But due to design. coding flaws and many, many bugs, this game is not at all playable as intended.
Im sure it may be possible on easy without raids, but then whats the point? Im not paying for a game where most of the fun and challenge is removed.
At the minute, this is not alpha or early access, its pre alpha. Its an insult to be out playable in this state.
Maybe in a few months it`ll change. But thats what i saw people saying months ago waiting for the engine upgrade. Its a mess. And no amount of applause from stupid gamers white knighting this level of ineptly slow and rubbish progress can hide it.
Almost everything in game now, was there many months ago. In fact, the one thing this game had that was special, the rng map maker, was gutted and removed and might come back. Might..
This is one of those games, when you play it, you feel a like for it, right up until you realise the issues are too much.
Ive no tolerance left for its progress or its devs slow pace of progress. Its inexcusable. This isnt even part time coding, its when they can be arsed coding.
RTX 3090 needed? Us normal folks absolutely cannot play this game, you need to optimise it, Performance is terrible on a 2060. I am not refunding yet but I will stay under the 2 hour limit just to check performance every update, otherwise this game is sadly unplayable.
If there are positive developments on this issue I will be back and change my review to an appropriate one when I can play the game a bit, I just feel this needs to be a warning to new buyers that there are massive performance issues currently.
Thumbs up for now but needs work. Here is a few of the things that I have found
-Needs a crap load of balancing, especially with firewood production and use.
-Number of people will randomly go down without any notification.
-Has people moving moving around while lying down.
There are more little things that need work but I am excited to see how this game goes.
Currently it is in early access, but unlike most other early access games, the game works well, and is fun to play with no glaring issues (though your saved files might not work with future major updates)...
It is a fun game where the developer so far has been very helpful in both listening to the community for suggestions, implementing those suggestions, as well as advising on in-game questions.
The game itself is similar to other village builders...grow your crops so your citizens do not starve, ensure they have proper clothing, ensure they have proper footwear (and harvest resources (hides from pigs, leather from cows, materials from flax) to build that.
Build walls and troops to defend your town from invaders.
It is a fun game overall with nice graphics and realistic gameplay.
Included a few vids below so you can see the gameplay...
First video is from the perspective of a villager (just watching him walking through the town, not doing anything): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TyyrN-Sn_E
Second video is on a firewood production question someone had and suggestions in relation to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNBByupxfMU
The Oculus issue is now resolved and the game starts as it should.
Game interface is broken. It looks nothing like screenshots on Steam Store. I'm sure it's going to be a wonderful game, but why launch now, if it doesn't work?
dev is working on fixes when they're reported and fixing them very fast.
TOTAL RUBBISH UNPLAYABLE CANT GATHER STONE CANT MINE STONE POP WIPED OUT BEFORE IT CAN GROW
Game shows potential. I'm looking forward to how it will be in the future however at this point in time i don't feel like it is ready for the big audience.
The game is rather unclear in what certain things do or how they work.
-you cant select buildings for their information.
-with all other construction you get a ghost of the building that you place however with farms and stockpiles this is not the case. It took me a while before i noticed the button was not broken.
For now my advice is to keep this on your watchlist for further updates. i have good hopes for the future.
I played for a while and I have to say that the game is not even build. I understand that it is a "early Access" game, but this is too early. I get that you want to the community have "input and chape.... the final stages of development" but dude, come on. Have some respect for the people. Give them something worth their time and money. You are the developer, not them, not we.
Im talking from another game developer view. Im still on my career and learning but please, do something worth for everybody.
I really like the idea of the game and that is why I payed to support you. I hope that you do not abandon the game and the community. Sadly I gonna have to rate this negative. The state of the game is not optimal for release.
Good Luck
I know it's early acces but imo it's a bit too early sadly.
The creator is listening to the community ( Big bonus point) when things are not working how they should
and fixes them very fast. I kinda understand that u want to give the community an input but it's too early.
I'm def no cheap skate but when people pay 8 euro's they want atleast a game that's worth their time and works properly. You are the creator not we. It's frustrating playing a game that is not even finished enough to be early acces.
The idea has potential but atm after less than an hour I was like nvm. BUT I'm def gonna check up on this game in 6 months and hope it's much farther. Also some things in the game are unclear. Please atleast do some info or a small tutorial.
ADVICE to the people who want to buy this game:
Keep it on wishlist and keep an eye on the development and growth of the game trough the reviews.
To the creator: See this as a little push to keep you going and help you out.
As long as the devs keep working on this game it has the potential to reach Banished status. One fix I would like to see right now is the amount of managed resources you can collect. 1 tree = 1 log. When you need wood to produce firewood as well as build structures you can sit around doing nothing for a while waiting. Same with stone. It really needs to be adjusted.
I've given this game a try, as I enjoy strategy simulation town building games like this. This has some potential, yet is way too early in it's offering at the moment to consider recommendations. That said I don't want to give it a down vote either.
The Dev. appears active and earnest about making updates and changes to enhance the game. In it's current form it's unplayable, simply for the fact the bandits in a short time overwhelm your settlement and kill off all the villagers then camp it not allowing it to re-spawn/get back on it's feet so game ends.
With some time and changes to game features and mechanics, this game could be fun down the road. Keep up the good work, I'll post on the discussion board some ideas. Hope you find this constructive motivation to keep going.
All Features aren't in game yet, yet would like to see tech tree for stages of growth unlocking new abilities for:
forestry, agriculture, animal husbandry.
wish list:
-Ability to delete stockpile tiles. give an initial stockpile on start up but all others go in a warehouse.
-Food should have separate building, a granary or Larder.
-fishing dock for eel, fish,
-Barracks for footmen soldiers
- smithy to make weapons, armor
- leatherworker to make heavy weight winter clothes/armor , tailor make wood clothes for winter
- chapel, church, graveyard, prison, banquet hall that affects player happiness/enlightenment.
-research tree for upgrades of fortification, security weapons/armor and barricade buildings/gates as well as for craft items
-multi player or npc multi town trade ability and merchant stands
- farm tiles to have dirt texture, currently shine like a tin roof/metallic.
- well for drinking, crafting, livestock
technical glitches: graphics-livestock blink on and off inside pastures. mechanics: can't delete stockpile tiles
otherwise a good initial start, keep up the good work, i like the graphic aesthetics and seasons.

as far as early access games go, this developer is one of the most active i have ever encountered. guy actually answers posts, updates weekly, and fixes what is broken. game is coming along nicely! give it a shot, give some constructive feedback and help out with early access. Please remember though, this is EARLY ACCESS - for those who don't understand - it is not finished and there will be bugs. do not review bomb this because it is not done. This feels like it could develop into something great if the community gives adequate support to the developer.
Plenty of gamebraking bugs, cant play for more than 1 hour before a gamebraking bug appear and you need to start over.
game is unplayble in this state
So,
I found this little gem on some youtube page, and I have bought to give it a try. I was really impresed with the game, even though is in very Early Stages, it offers a nice amount of playtime, I only got one crash in about 1:30 h of play time. There are bugs, and the game content is not very extensive, but it is definately a good buy.
As always, support promising indie dev's by buying their EA titles, give them some feedback, bug reports, and most of the time you will not be disappointed.
A great game with a lot of potential.
Ok... First off, I wanted to give my opinion on two things:
First: what I think about some of the Reviews
Second: What I think about the Game.
1. What is it about those negativ-reviews? Especially those who are complaining about the balance in the game and those who are complaining about the content. Instead of yammering about "uuuh, the Game is so bad, unbalanced and with no content" - Start using the Bug-Report tool! You can even give your opinion about not implemented features! The Devs of this game are looking forward for some opinions and the NEED Bug-Reports. And who is giving these? Exactly - WE - the Players.
What the hell is wrong with you? Did you notice, that it is just Early Access? Everyone who descides to PAY for an Early Access schould be ready for some Problems. And... Sorry but a price beyond 10€? Next time, considerthe game an EARLY ACCESS WITH BUGS! and THEN think about spending money. Less than 10€ is no big deal, c'mon, pls...
2. What I am thinking about this Game?
It sure has a long way to go but it hast huuuuge potential. I startet the Game and after 45 Minutes I consider myself something like "addicted". Sure, I had to restart the save, cause I did some mistake at the starting point and yes, it is yet a bit unbalanced - BUT I will try one more run. And I guess, even after that - one more for the Go. It is worth it. Give it some Time and a chance to evolve.
Keep going, MedievalNexus! I am looking forward to the improvements!
I cannot recommend this game as of this date for those who have less than optimal eyesight and the elderly such as myself. The text is way too small and unreadable and goes off screen leaving the player control less and to what production is etc. The game is in it's early stages do maybe I will be able to recommend if the creators address this massively important problem for those listed above.
Overall a promising game at this stage. No issues with running at this point, there's some tweaks to the game that it would benefit from but it's still in early access so this isn't surprising.
Its actually a good game. Cant wait to see how it improves with time. One thing I would like to see is ability to list workers in order by job so I can tell at a glance how many laborers, foresters, etc I have. Also hope future updates have ability to upgrade homes and work places.
So far it is a good idea coming to fruition. I have just started playing but I am already looking forward to the weekly updates.
different keeps you on your toes.
No tutorial.
It will take a few minutes to learn the basics of the game so use the first game to learn until everybody freezes or starves or the enemy kills your pop.
After that first game you will know what to do and the game becomes no challenge very fast!
No quite Ostriv, deffinately NOT Dawn of Man and almost Banished....still deciding what makes it unique as Builders of Egypt stagnates on a demo....lol
Im a big fan of city builders, Bastide seems to be a mix of Banished and Dawn of Man, similar concepts but different mechanics.
Of course being early access there are some flaws with the game, however the Dev is updating weekly, interacts with the players on the discussion boards and provides feedback on whats new and whats coming up.
As we all know, early access games are rarely polished and ready for release.
Pros:
- fun, easy concept to learn
- non grid building placement
- easy to run on low end systems
- day/night cycle
- no annoying pop ups (think dawn of man)
- core game is there and has potential to be more complex
- micromanagement is very easy
Cons:
- immersion is just not there yet, audio needs a major overhaul, especially ambient noises, construction, rivers flowing etc.
- night cycle offers nothing for the player, although if you ever played Beasts and Bumpkins it will be a non issue for you.
- animations simplistic
- Ai pathfinding is very simple, find myself having to micromanage things such as food production/slaughtering too much, should be automated.
- no tech tree, YET.
- production times hit zero if there is no unallocated villagers
Overall, I'm enjoying the concept, for the price its about right. It definitely has the potential to be a fantastic game with a few visual and gameplay tweaks, if you are unsure, then perhaps wait until it's full release.
Game is nice and i believe the developer will further make it better.
Maybe some of the features can be added for better game play and make the game even better:
1. Ability to change the hotkeys (i.e. inverting the E and Q buttons)
2. A list of works being done or queued. List of jobs and how many villagers are assigned just to see the big picture.
3. An easy button to pause and unpause the game.
4. More noticeable notifications (i lost half of the villagers without noticing that they were killed in battle :) )
Hope, the game will be developed further so that many more people can enjoy it.
Thanks.
So far I like it, and I think it's got potential. But I have a mouse issue, it stutters.
For 10 bucks and as many updates that come regularly it is worth it. It has a long way to go to become a more complete and polished game. But it is constantly getting updates and fixes to make it better. It isn't like some of those big companies that want hundreds of dollars and deliver nothing but empty promises. This is updated and that is something I can get behind and support.
This game is good and has a lot of potential, looking forward to see how it develops.
The game has a good base and I comeback every couple of weeks to try out some of the new features. The developer releases frequent content updates and bug fixes with a weekly summary of the changes.
He has a link when you start up the game with what he has already added and what he is currently working on. As well as some of what he has planned for the future.
So far its a fun game that I look forward to seeing what it becomes.
This is sort of in the neighborhood of Ostriv and Banished. Thrive or dive! It does have the added challenge of an "enemy village." The developer is a great guy. He gives you the choice of having an enemy or not; he also gives you the option to set the difficulty level for the game in advance. This gives the player the choice of what level of conflict is desired. There is a large choice of housing styles available from the beginning which even beats Banished. I really would recommend this game. The potential for many improvements is bright! (I really wished I could gather my soldiers and ambush the scoundrels from the enemy village, but maybe that's coming in the future.)
The game is developing very nicely and is fun to play. Time passes very quickly and is great for the present lockdown.
This game probably compares best against Dawn of Man, which is also a settlement management game. Unfortunately, at present, this game has no hook - all the pieces of a settlement management game are there (farming, logging, housing, other food production, etc.) but there's no compelling reason to keep playing - you can't really fail beyond loosing all your initial settlers and in that case, there isn't really anything you can do about that.
Compare that to Dawn of Man, where a massive raid in the middle of harvest *can* cause a genuine emergency - especially if it goes badly for you. You need to figure out how to get enough food to last until your next harvest while still making sure your animals have enough feed to survive the winter. In brief, it makes the game interesting, compelling, and difficult. Meanwhile, here, basically you just exist - as long as you keep a tiny fraction of your population engaged in farming, you'll have enough food all the time, no problem.
I'll also note that the farming and pasturage mechanics are much worse, not only than Dawn of Man and Banished, but much worse than Ostriv, which really leads in this genre. It should also be mentioned that the GUI is terrible in this game - there's no way to do bulk transfers of stuff (if you want to sell the merchant 50 clothes, you're gonna be clicking 50 times) and navigating around the interface is just kinda terrible all around.
Basically, banished came out almost seven years ago, and it did almost everything this game does, but in a far more compelling way. If you want Banished with combat, go get Dawn of Man. If you want Banished 2.0 go get Ostriv. The publishers might yet improve this, but since there isn't a central compelling conflict in the game, I rather doubt it.
This game is fun but is very very confusing. Will take you awhile to figure out what you are doing.
New Changes are making it a great game
Hi there! I'm enjoying the game, I think you have a lot of potential here. The stockpile needs a texture at the bottom, the black colour area looks odd right now. Crop farms and Orchards also look odd because the colour of the ground texture is way too dark and plain. When you place buildings on slight hills or uneven ground, the building is not flat, that's a big issue. For example, a building placed on the side of a hill should still always be flat, even if it cut's into the hill. Or prehaps just make it forbidden to build on ground which is not completely flat. Another problem for me is the lack of historical accuracy in the selection of buildings. For example, you have houses from very early periods, and then houses from the late middle ages. It looks odd together.
not a bad game at all , gets daily updates or at very least 5 a week this week so far (dec 2020) 1.6 gb update , 600 mb update 400 mb update 700 mb update so the devs really making a effort (cough ancient cities pay attention u crook) , its rough but its getting there , ur get ur monies worth unlike ancient cities
breath of fresh air , different enough to stand out from the herd and most important is the active devs.
Currently it's one of those "I wish there was neutral" reviews. The gameplay is ok, nice to build, although the placement is a bit wonky, can't get stuff neatly packed easily, roads placement snaps only to ends of stretches of roads you've placed and sometimes their colouring "pours" over buildings when you put them too close, making the buildings look brown. Biggest issue is lack of purpose besides building everything. Also it's quite easy to survive, just put a few people on farming and you're set (also you can keep farming throughout winter, which is weird). As it is, I wouldn't recommend purchasing unless you're a big fan of the genre and want to try it badly. I usually get way more hours from any game of the genre, this one just doesn't have more than a few hours of gameplay in it's current state. Hopefully more gets added and it gets better.
fun game has all the common city builder basics, but the keep working on it which I love. I hope they keep making this game better and better.
Great Game with regular updates
At this point I would not waste your money. I paid for it and was able to play for almost 2 hours, but this is not total, because the game keep crashing on me.
So this is a BETA version. Hmmm Seems more like what an Alpha version would be. Really good adjustable graphics but boy does the game time system need adjusting i.e. NPCs move to slow and age too fast. I'll try it maybe 1 more time but then I'll wait for the... what GAMMA version?
the game is great, it has come so far since its first release.
thank you developers for a great game, keep up the good work.
I like it so far. Village builder, similar to Ostriv, dawn of man etc. It just feels good, early access but i am glad i got it. Happy days.
This game is pretty but it is still in its early stage and it is extremely slow. The graphics are still a work in progress (at least in my PC). It is like Banished.
I am enjoying the game and I find it relaxing. One thing I really do like is how we have to capture the live stock.
instead of buying it.
The creators are endeavoring to make the game even more enjoyable by adding new features and attending to bugs
I highly recommend the game to other players and hope they get as much enjoyment out of playing Dastide as I do
Great potential, great platform for ideas, truly well done.
There is no rush the game runs at a nice pace and the concept is very interesting
One of the worst game I've ever played in my entire life. Game is full of annoying and obvious problems which make an already frustrating experience even worse. Yet there is an outlined and scheduled plan with something small like a pasture gate from which animals don't leave anyway. As if the creators are interested in keeping the development of the game for longest possible time while milking down the curious crowd. There is far more important job that needs to be done for it to be called "Early Access Game" than weekly addition of something insignificant. At this point people should be getting paid to play it rather than opposite.
Awesome civilization builder game concept. Keep it up!
This game, unlike many other Early Access City Builders, is regularly updated. Literally every week. EVERY WEEK A NEW UPDATE. It may not be perfect now, but it improves constantly and is decently entertaining even in its current state.
Definitely worth giving a chance!
The game has a great potential! Its similar to Ostriv and I love the scenery like mountains, hills, rivers, trees and animals. Game is still in development process and I cant wait for updates. It needs improvements like waters, lakes and rivers, possibly some more fish and animals varieties, boats and houses upgrades etc. I would highly recommend a map where player can chose the location vs seed!
I open and play this game ever so often then update my review.
Forester?!? Why do you never use the building I had to make for you?!?
Hunter?!? Why do you not gather leather like the info shows?!?
Fisher?!? Why do I build a building you do not use?!?
What is up with the children? Why can I not set them on fire? Sell them into slavery?
All my cows are female, how do they breed? Why am I not invited to breed? Cowman give much milk!!
Why can I not choose religion for the church?!? Blood sacrifice bring much rain.
Before you actually start playing the game and it is time to name your town, using Backspace key to try and delete 'Name Here...' asks if you want to leave the game, selecting 'no' sends you back to main menu- my towns are all named 'Name Here...'. Clicking inside info panes just ends up selecting whatever is behind it. Tool-tips do not tell you what to build/do to collect materials. There is no town drunk. Sheep want water when it is raining. Night cycle is useless, does not accurately show time- people do not work at night. Also no day of the month. Population pane is lame, less is more- summarize it. Producing buildings are better than the houses I can make from the start, I.E. blacksmith is made of uncut stone- this makes no sense since buildings can be upgraded, give me mud and thatch blacksmith! Needs mods, or a nice person who can make different style buildings to choose from for free to the developer. Definitely needs a different church to choose from, perhaps an old temple? Maya pyramid with a bloody alter? I played several maps with Procedural Map Generator instead of Standard- never found any enemies, no enemy town setting either. One of the loading screens shows a campfire and two lean-to's on either side, I can not find lean-to in the build menu. Please update the large picture steam shows when the game is selected, on the nearest house you can see a defect in between the logs for the wall and the start of the roof.
New optional grid placement added, but only works for buildings, not farms, paths etc- so still can not make things match up perfectly.
Otherwise this game is at a great start. I do not foresee it being a cash cow. Nothing quirky(good, funny) to offer. No real flavor(you can tell by the same old church, that's in every similar game).
Overall a thumbs up since it is a work in progress. Who knows what roads it will take from here.
I've only got 5 hours of game play so far so i don't have much of an opinion as of now. I will come back after a few more hours and edit my review.
As far as I have played Though I would definitely recommend this game to Gamers that are into colony sims / Building sims. As that aspect of the game IMO is top notch.
will be back to edit review after a few more hours of game play........
This game is great, and it is fun to see it improve each week. Knowing that it is in development still, i think it still holds it's own in comparison to many other games of it's type. I hope to see more development with military/enemies. The trad mechanics is not completely obvious and could use a little explanation or improvement. It would also be nice to add one additional faster speed to the game. All that said i still find myself playing a couple hours a week to see how it goes.
very boring, not a lot of content, poor graphics, clear rip of games like banished crossed with dawn of man. the people walk around like from a ps1 game and look like theyre from a ps1/2 games era. Its a cheap game for a reason, id recommend sticking with bannished or something more filled out.
Just a good game, can't for more update, and mote buildings. a cracker of a game.
It is a gem in the making, Seriously there is a strong potential here, however from what little I have played it is still in development. Purchase the Early access to support this effort. Keep it up!
pretty good despite a few odd little bugs here and there their is constant updates too so all in all a big YES!
good game if they keep doing updates on it and put more food choice in
It is not a fast city build game you have to take your time. and mico mange .resource gathering is slow.Take your time and shit the work load around with your people ..and in due time you will grow .....lots of fun
this game is really great team, really like playing it and creating a civilisation :) big test on What you need to do first up..... Well done.
if you are still tweaking things, would you consider allowing us to control the soldiers creating an army and possibly having other towns / Enemy camps etc? and upgrading the looks of the buildings maybe? (cobbled roads / Brick or stone roads)
Knowing when the enemy is on the march so we can attack or defend / line up and position a defence?
Keep up the amazing work team
Great game even in early access. Had a few issues but after posting in community the Dev's fixed them in under a day. Content updates every week. I can see this becoming a great game.
Definitely a work in progress, needs a lot more content in general (building types, crops, other features that will help make it stand out from dozens of other similar games in the building genre), better balancing in terms of resources needed / consumed, and optimization. But that's all to be expected from early access and the dev is very active pushing out weekly updates.
As long as the dev continues on their current path, I can recommend this game as I can see it being a quality product at the finish, but as it stands right now, pretty barebones and simple compared to similar titles like Banished, Kingdoms Reborn, etc.
The game developer is genuinely trying to improve this game. Still a long way to go.
Purchased this game on 20th and it worked ok, by 21st game had crashed not working, tried all suggestions and still not working, total time played 3.5 hrs (including over 2 hours of trying to sort it out) refused refund as i had played it longer than 2 hours "policy" game still does not work BE AWARE OF THIS people.
Love the nature aspect of it, but that's about it. For a game that's 3.5 GB....feelsl ike it was made in 1998.
Bastide has alot of potential but still has a bunch of fine tuning that needs to happen in order to make it a great game upon full release. I played if for only 7 straight hours and was able to accomplished every part of the game with 100 plus population and every building available being built. The AI was good and easy to figure out. I was really impressed with the time progression and how the different weather and season come into play throughout the game. It is well worth the $7 Alpha price tag that I paid for it.
Some the biggest flaws and suggestions that I observed in the game include:
-Military units: I'm not even sure why they are part of the game if you cant even control the individual units. They are solely for defensive purposes and protect against enemy attack. The attacks are small, pointless and result in only 3-5 casualties, which is quickly replaced by a new family moving into the village. Also, why only one archer per a lookout tower? And why only 5 total military units per a barracks? I was mind boggled by all of this and just couldn't figure out the point of having them in the game in the first place. I think that having more of a crime aspect within the game by adding criminals, a law enforcement, dungeons, and court system would be far more challenging and intriguing than random and petty attacks by enemy villages.
-I couldn't ever figure out the fishing hut. I tried placing it at various different places along the coast but the worker would still produce no fish. I think it would be better to have a fishing dock and boat yard to building different types of fishing boats. Also, the trading dock could use a big rework to make it more aesthetically and visually appealing.
-Visually: While the graphics are more than acceptable for me but I noticed that the people of the village would sort of levitate around the village when walking around. They were not even touching the ground and performing a natural walking motion. With that said, I was very impressed with how visually appealing and detailed the the different buildings were in the game, especially with the large building such as the Tavern, Brewery and Church.
-Performance: Once I reached a total population 90-100 people, I noticed the game would get very laggy and occassionally freeze for brief periods of time. I especially noticed it occurring when the weather was raining and I would zoom in close to the village. My PC isn't the greatest but the game shouldn't be that demanding with just 100 population and a few dozen buildings.
-Another recommendation is adding a human waste and garbage disposal service within the game. You could also include rat infestations with different types of pest control methods such as a falconer.
Overall, a very promising game for it still being the the Alpha phase of development. I definitely look forward following the game throughout its development and seeing the various different improvements in the the beta and final release versions of the game. Hopefully it can compete with and excel above the likes of both Banished and Ostriv.
have managed to get the game soted and working now.
will be plaaying soon :)
the game is a work in progress for sure. There is enough content available to make the 10 dollar purchase price worth it. The creators seem to be hard at work trying to complete the game. Its like Banished but not refined yet.
I pick "recommend" only because the game isn't abandoned.
But under the hood there are generic mechanics from Banished-like games, plaguing literally every single one: manually set working areas, working radius around buildings, manual work recruiting. They will not search a nearest tree, if it is outside a radius. They will not start fishing, even if their fishing hut stands right at the shore - you have to place a working point. They will not work in the building until you specify recruiting, and will not change to vacant workplace because they could use to produce something other.
It's not a "colony sim" or "village sim" in broad sense. It's just another Banished-like dollhouse where you have to lead everyone by the hand.
This is an absolutly amazing game! Every Week new content and you really feel how this development team are working on this game. There is nothing i can say bad about this game even if i searched hard. I wish all devs where like this once
Nice, and playable,Banished genre x(n+1) game.Graphically weaker than "Ostriv".Regrettable that the "weekly updates" turns in "2-3 monthly updates" for now..I love the genre.Ty.
The game has gotten a lot better since I first bought it. There are a fairly constant rate of bug fixes and improvements release. Keep up the good work!
Playing this on an old PC so its a bit slow but I like it. Its a cross between Banished and Ostriv. This game you do have to think of what your doing, you cant just set all the building to be built, it has to be done in an order otherwise you will fail. It is a bit early to tell yet so i will leave this open but for the price go for it!
Settlers stay a day maybe 2 and they are gone. Assign them jobs and they walk off and do whatever. Hunt large animals and only get 1 food. Harvest crops and only get 1 food. Chops down large tree get 1 lumber. This is not hardcore, this is torture. Not realistic and not fun.
very good game.. as many are saying very much like banished and dawn of man.. but with it's own variations!
I like it... get it while it is low in price!! :)
BUT remember it is Early Access... so expect it to not b perfect yet... BUT Also they are definitely working on the balancing and bug fixes each day!
To Devs... Im behind ya all 💯!!
Pretty easy game to play and quite relaxed, even though the game is looking to kill off your population constantly. It took me just over 6 hours to complete. There was one problem however, it did a nasty crash and I had to restart the PC, - something about unreal engine.. no surprise there..
Hra je vo vývoji cca 2 roky, má potencál. Treba si pockat na finálnu verziu, kde sa dotiahnu vsetky veci. Najma optimalizácia. Preto davam refund a pockam do oficialneho vydania. Potom mozno zmenim nazor :)
A slow burner at the beginning but that gives you time to build up your resources and population before it starts getting more hectic to manage.
good game but your city spawns in the same place all the time no matter map size, more options on how many enimes youu can have no AI friedly towns to trade with could be a awesome game
This game seriously needs a tutorial scenario. The potential is there for a very good game, but it's tough to start when there seem to be little to no guidance given on the very basics of how to produce the very basics. I do recommend it, and hope it will continue to develop and grow into its potential.
Good shot at a colonisation city builder. Enjoyable challenge while somewhat relaxed at times.
Good game, missing the ability to make more then 100 fire wood, stone walls, stone production buildings.
I like this, a lot. It's got elements of many previous great games (Banished, Dawn of Man and Foundation spring to mind), and appears to have moulded them together whilst still remaining "its own game", to produce something genuinely very good. If the developer keeps building the game at the rate they are doing, the idea of this being "one of the best city builders out there", is certainly not a far fetched one.
Bastide is a city-building where you to colonisation the island build homes for the people assign them jobs to gather wood stone you can either hunt animals or to place into pastures.etc
to thrive and survive against other villages, bandits, hunger, disease, and the cold
the game shows potential good graphic and game play and relaxing
