Battle Bruise is an exceptionally good game for an exceptionally low price. I got the game for 27 cents. The game is very easy to pick up. You have two choices when starting the game, campaign or car mode. In campaign you have to fight off waves of enemies from all directions; 8 waves in total per stage. After each wave you can buy different weapons and upgrade your current weapons. I car defense mode, you have to protect a car from being destroyed. In this mode you can also buy turrets to place on your car which makes it quite a bit easier. I beat the game in about 4 hours over a few days.

Bottome line: if you need a 4 hour time waster for a dollar and enjoy shooter games you will probably enjoy this game.

Fun gameplay, extremely cheap and pretty decent music = 9/10.

suprisingly Good considering the price, I highly recomend the game for people who have 5 minutes to hours of free time

This game's awesome! It's fun to play, the idea is simple and it's cheap.

The only problem I had was the game didn't tell about the alt-fire dash which made things alot easier near the end.

I had a steam coupon for it so I only paid $0.10 and it was a lot more fun than I expected. The gameplay is fun and challenging enough to justify paying $1 for it. The appearance itself all appears hand drawn but is still somewhat chaming. Good, quick, cheep fun.

Fun shoot'em up. Has a nice amount of enemy variants and is challenging for a simple concept. Love the "corpse mountain" mechanic and can see a lot of replay value in the game. WELL WORTH the 99 cents! One game I would absolutely recommend worth the full price and worth buying a copy for a friend.

I've seen some good 1 dollar games through the years (recommending Battle High 1 and 2 on XBLIG), and Battle Bruise is no exception. This top-down shooter is proven to have plenty of fun in a low, low price. Gameplay consists of 2 main modes with several levels and 2 different weapon sets: a main Campaign with three waves per level and a Car Defense mode with 8 waves per level. Campaign is all about surviving a horde of zombies while car defense is as it's named (and can be brutal at times). Inbetween waves you can spend some money getting new weapons and upgrading current ones (and buy turrets in car defense). During the course of these swarmfest there are power-ups that can help make things easier (note that Freeze only affects the enemies that have spawned at the moment it's picked up). What's also neat is that enemy corpses can fill the landscape and change the terrain everyone walks on. Not to mention it can be reduced by either explosions, the Nuke, elephants or the dashng slash. Controls are as simple as a PC shooter can be (WASD move, mouse aim and fires, numbers and scroll wheel selects weapons), but I do like the addition of a dashing slash (right click) that can help you get out of being crowded. What's sad is that although the game recognize my 360 controller I can't aim with the right stick. That needs to be fixed. The visuals are pretty basic with a nice art style. It's got that cool art style like it came from a punk kid's notebook. The audio's pretty good too. Although my only major gripe is how weak some sounds can be. But what got me intrigued is the dynamic music. The tunes sounded basic at first, but as more zombies flood the battlefield, they kick it up a notch, bringing out guitars, keyboards, etc. It's not often you find a game with dynamic music, especially from a 1 dollar game. Overall, I think it's definitely worth the dollar.

Being the cheapsest buy in my Library, I can say with 100% certainty this game is one of the few titles I've played and didn't regret the money. Just for 29 RUB(or whatever the hell your currency is; it's cheap anyways) you get a short but action-packed undead-killing and corpse-piling shoot-'em-up, where you have to quickly adapt to the enemy attacks and the constant change of terrain. Thankfully, the physics in Battle Bruise have no sense of self-respect, and thus you can sometimes hit the zombies while standing on the highground and shooting horizontally. Simply glorious.

The few downsides are that the game has no endless mode or multiplayer, and it's quite short, you can easily beat it on one night. But still, it is worth the lack of sleep.

10/10 can't wait for the sequel.

Fairly fun, mindless shooter with a lot of exploding giblets. Fun thing is your enemies' corpses pile onto each other and alter the terrain so after a certain point the game gets really hard as you have to keep things like high and low ground in mind while firing away at the mindless zombies. That made the game pretty annoying to me as the mountains of corpses would stop me from blowing the fresh enemies' brains out, but meh, maybe I'm just bad at this game. Still, had some good fun. Music's good too, that hammond organ was really tasty.

Nicely made game. Simple, cheap and not hard shooter. Sounds and music is also nice. If You are bored with those tripple A games and want to play something fast and not complicated, try it.

I have only played a small amount of this game, but i love it. It's quirky and it's simple. It doesnt try to do anything but provide you with a bundle of fun. I highly recommend this game for the price of 79p (39p in the sale).

For anyone that loves chaotic shooters like this I also recommend Crimsonland. You won't be dissapointed.

If Zombie Shooter was side view, with a sexy cat killing CGA-looking zombies coming wave after wave, then it would be called Battle Bruise.
It's awesome.

Do you like unbalanced gameplay? Do you like paying actual money for a game that could have been found for free on CrazyMonkeyGames in 2006? Do you like the inability to adjust sound levels in the options? If you answered yes to any of these questions, than what the hell is wrong with you? Also this game might be for you.

Pure racism. You are pink and they are blue. You get a gun to eradicate them. Just awful.

On a serious note, this is a interesting take on a twin stick shooter.

When you kill enemies, their bodies turn to bones. Which then pile up, making the level have a different terrain. It's not really good or bad, but it is defintely interesting and could make an amazing game if the dev's decide to expand on that idea.

On the same note as making bone mountains, you can blow up the ground and have dips. This is only really important on the lava level, because the lava hurts you. More importanlty, it hurts the braindead blue guys because they run straight into it if they're chasing you.

Sadly, the dips and mountains don't seem to actually affect the gun fire. There's a chance it does, but the game is so fast and hectic that you won't notice a bullet or two hitting the mountain instead of a random blue guy anyway.

All in all, this game is worth a buck.

PS:Ii watched the trailer. It made me uncomfortable. Don't watch it.

there's just something about side scroller shoot-em up' games that just stick very well, being made and done to death they just keep coming out with more and more similar style games that will never not be fun. I haven't had a lot of time put into this one, but I can assure you if you're a phantom of the side scrollers then this will cure that itch for something different. it works very well on the couch and steam controller as well, so don't be shy on trying to kick back and play this one on a controller. of course, mouse and keyboard is the precision to be the best, with the highest of scores to keep your friends coming back for more.

Don't be fooled by this propaganda. They try to spread lies about Alt-F4, but it is definitely not true. My online friends tell me that it raises my stats in almost any game; basically a universal cheat code. Friends don't lie... developers do. >:(

Watch the trailer and you know exactly what to expect. Fun gameplay, especially car defense mode, though a severe lack of depth & longevity is the main problem here. I flew through both modes dying only once, using default weapons (!).. Very very easy, a short but enjoyable experience.

A short game, great game mechanics, love the terrain mechanics (how you can blow it up or build it up using bodies). Very fun mindless violence sandbox game. Hords upon hords of enemies, you got to move around. Overall I loved it, nothing to complain about. Its super cheap and has steam cards and achivments, well worth the buy!

Good top-down shooter. Bodies pile up around you creating a rougher more complicated terrain. Upgrade mechanic is pretty solid and provides some micro-progression. There were only a few levels, though thats to be expected in the possible variety of the game's mechanics. That being said, the game is short and simple. But, it is well worth it for the price if you try to be a completionist. Also worth noting it doubles the debatable $1/1hr metric.

The best thing of this game is It's not boring to replay it.
You can keep playing again and again ,and it won't get dull.
Terrain get changed by various reason during the play.
And it will mostly obstruct the player.
So every game you play will feel different.

Do you like shooting game?
Do you like Alien Shooter game play?
Then you will love this game.

Seems like a very underrated game. It's a great shoot'em up with great mechanics, especially the part when dead enemies make a mountain. Although it still needs a little polish, for example the player and enemies dissapearing when going "underwater" or the strange shooting when the player and the enemy are on different heights. Theese are minor things but still fixing them would make the game look more finished.

Guess this game was really cheap, but was it worth the 6 minutes i played it? I dunno. Had to use time to download it and buy it also.

It is a game, but waaaaaau to basic. If the dev guy added some upgrades etc, it would be a playable game.

The Short of it: I liked the hand drawn art style - really worked well for this one. Gameplay is tight and frantic, music is great, lots of weapons and upgrades. Arcade, bullet-hell fun done right, with a fair price.

Reminds me of: If you liked Enter the Gungeon , you'll probably like Battle Bruise. It's similiar in many gameplay elements, but boils it down to just the action, so you can enjoy the arcade feel of a top-down shooter without further complication. Great game to just melt your brain with at the end of a long day.

It's also only a dollar as of writing this review. That is beyond fair for the fun you can get out of this IMO. Beats a cup of coffee any day!

THIS GAME IS THE TITS. It is super addictive and and challenging. This game gets right so many things games try and fail. This is game worth way more then I paid for it.

Could use two player, that would be epic. Structure and blockade drops would be cool, like you collect and orb that would put a destroyable cube or barrer. Maybe a boss battle at the end of all the waves would be cool. And bonus rounds where your having to dodge a sprinkling of nukes would be cool. a hallway or kind of the hill style stage would add alot. I know the car lvls are pretty much that, but it needs to be a bit more of a tower defense, with atleast a prep time so you can clear some rows.

Soundtrack is really good. Sfx are distinct and clear A+ for that. The sloppy marker art style seemed kinda off putting at first, but it totally fits with the theme. The AI is simple but restructed(in a good way) but almost alittle redundent. This game has so much already going for it, but the amount of potental left unchecked makes me hope for a sequel.

When I create a steam controller configuration for a game like this it means I love it right away!

I've only played for about 15 minutes and I'm already very happy I bought this.

I wish there was a way to reduce the choppiness of the frame rate. I have a killer machine so it's not a problem on my end.

EDIT ADDITION TO REVIEW:

By ensuring VSync was enabled on the video driver level I was able to smooth out the performance quite a bit. I feel my original comment about the choppiness was a little misleading. It should not stop you from buying this game! I think what might be happening is some slightly non-optimized code which moves the camera when the cursor is moved. No big deal!

Now that I've had some time to play a bit more, I want to point out that there's actually something unique with this game's TERRAIN DEFORMATION. As you kill, the bodies pile up creating different elevations, which may either help or hinder your strategy! Pile up bodies to make a defensive wall, but watch out because you can't shoot through dirt! Shooting dirt or hitting it with special weapons/explosions knocks it down and could possibly create pools of blood, lava, mud, etc. REALLY COOL

Battle Bruise is a zombie horde shooter done very nicely. While there's not a wide variety of gameplay, this game does a nice job of finding a way to never feel stale or repetitive. Very fun to pick up and play a few rounds, and a nice game to keep you hooked until you beat it 100%. I would be willing to pay $2-$3 for this game, but I'm very satisfied with the fact it's only $0.99! Definitely will go back and play again from time to time when I'm looking for some quick fun.

The game is pretty good, i give it 10/10 ducks. I love the style of it. The campaign is awesome but short and car defense is good tbh. It would be awesome if the 2nd game had some bosses, 2 player online co-op, endless mode for single-player and co-op, longer campaign.

RECOMMENDED.

You'd be a fool not to buy this game.

Great game. Maybe not goty but who cares. Its fun. "I'd buy that for a dollar" - some guy from Robocop. Its only 1 dollar so buy it. Probably was even made with Game Maker so its of high quality. The person who made the music is a literal genius. There is mostly pros to this game and only one bad thing in this game. Elephants are in the game as enemies, even though elephants are an endangered species and also the best species in the world. However, these in-game elephants are zombie elephants thus it can be forgiven.

Maprower

Mountains of the dead pile up before you. Falling, falling forever, into the blood and the thick of it. How long as it been? Since this wave of infinite, swarming blue death pursued you, round and round. A carnival ride powered by cannibalization. Perhaps now is the time. Time to put the barrel of the sweet plasma rifle to the thing you know isn't just going to rise again out of the dirt-

Oh sweet, helicopter.

Yes, Battle Bruise is a wave shooter - woah, don't leave yet, hold on, hold your horses. We're having a good time, we're all friends here. This isn't an infinite wave shooter, it's a fairly snappy, fast-paced one that funnels you through varied stages, and is intent on not wasting your time. You've got a dash-slice to punch through lines (or just save on ammo by wiping out a school trip's worth of blue mooks) and a neat terrain deformation mechanic that means you'll be climbing over the mountains of the dead and gazing at the endless horizon of whatevers outside the square map. Perhaps... dogs?

And then you do your katana slicey thing and lawnmower the piles down to simple tripping hazards.

PRO TIP: You can beat the entire game with just the default smg/pistol in defense. I could complain about how it doesn't force you to buy other weapons, but on general principle I'm usually glad when a wave shooter decides not be obnoxious.

There's also a car defense mode, where you sit on a car throwing rocket turrets all over it and laughing to the bank. You can bother with weapon upgrades in car defense too, if you feel like losing. Rocket Turrets, kids, it's all you need in life.

Through all this, you've got the sights that... the promotional art doesn't quite sell. It looks fine ingame, everything is moving and the tech carries it. Look you run around in circles shooting things, it gets the job done. Doubly so when you're taking potshots at elephants while 8 artillery turrets turn crowds to mincemeat. There's even a boss, one that doesn't threaten to slash your tires when you spend the entire company float on ketchup packets.

So where does that leave Battle Bruise? It's fun, punchy and well-paced and doesn't outstay its welcome, I'd say it's a very solid webgame that I don't regret chucking a buck at.

InClewSys

This is a Crimsonland clone with a unique art style, which personally I like. Paid pennies for it, and ended up playing for a few minutes whenever I was bored for some months.

Only two of the weapons seem useful, I ended up maxing out the assault rifle and then switching occasionally to the grenade launcher/rocket launcher for crowd control. I suck at video games in general so it's possible that's not the best strategy.

The sound is very good, all the guns and explosions seem meaty. There's an interesting mechanic with terrain deformation where explosions will create craters which will slow you down if you go into them. But a crater is usually filled with drops from zombies you've killed so there's an element there of risk/reward.

All in all, quite good.

Tineard
Tineard

This is whacky, messy and not very well balanced game, that will probably last for 3-6 hours to 100%.
And developers know about this, so price is pretty low. There are seem to be no apparent bugs - which already puts this game to at least top half in this price range, if not top 20%.

I don't really know what else to write - trailer shows pretty much exactly what this game is all about. If you like what you see - buy it, there are no lies there, that I can confirm :)

What it does better than the second:

A lot of weapon choices with 3 upgrades each, 2 different but similar sets of weapons for the 2 game modes.

The devs actually sprited each gun and their upgrades for Liza, something I personally enjoyed as you look a lot cooler with a level 3 minigun. The second game Liza always has the same weapon in her hands, small thing but I like it.

Melee dashes are a lot more responsive and just easier, at least for mouse and keyboard in this one since they go where you're aiming. There is little downtime between dashes and you have a stamina bar to keep track of how many you have. In the second game IFAIK there isnt one, and the dash is just generally worse in that game.

Feels like there are more levels and just stuff do to in this one given the car defense mode and more weapons.

This game has like no bugs compared to the second one, this one I feel less like im breaking the game while playing it normally. That being said the general movement and combat of the second feels a bit better.

What the second does better:

I am torn on the health system in this one, you effectively can get hit like 3 times max before you're dead with no iframes between those hits. Its clear different enemies do deal varying damage but its not that significant. The melee dash being good in this one helps out in this way though to allow for safer escapes and grabbing health when low. You WILL die if your dash ends in the middle of a group of enemies, though. A balance between this game's health drops and 2's health regen from kills would be fun but what do I know im a bat.

Guns needing ammo, its just not very good for similar reasons as the HP drops. I dont find myself running out of ammo terribly often but it is VERY inconvenient when the most efficient usage of money is just dumping it all into one weapon and upgrading to max. The second game doing away with the ammo I enjoyed personally.

Relating to guns and ammo and upgrades, the main campaign you'll have 3 waves at most to deal with on levels which is 2 chances to buy/upgrade weapons. You have like 6 weapon types but will often find yourself just using 1, or 2 if you have the cash to blow at the end. The car mode has more waves but stuff costs more in general.

Relating to the car, what even is that mode? Theres a blue bar on the top right that seems to just fill up and down randomly. Sometimes when the car gets hit sometimes not, the car can take a hell of a lot of damage so I have no clue wtf thats about.

It is a topdown shooter with Zimbres (from Zenardi and Lisa (makers of Pothead Zombies)) comic style. The piles of dropped enemies change the ground shape and can create walkable areas in some levels. If you liked the trailers or Zimbres comic style, check this one. There is also a "car defense mode" that adds some tower defense elements to the survival topdown vibe.

BETTL BRUIIIIIIIIIIZE is one of those zombie shoot-em-ups. There are many zombie shoot-em-up, as many as there are zombies in each one, a quite fractal matter.

But this one has something what others don't: a hecking furry cat girl as a hero. And she has katanas.
And has some funny guy scream at me on powerup pickups.

Oh, and it has style I like, with blue main zombie palette that doesn't try to spam red too much on me. And instead of you painting level into flat permanent red until it gets boring, the dead zombies only leave behind corpses that contribute to the terrain height after a whlie, growing actual mountains that block your shots. And explosives lower said ground which tends to reveal slowing mud or lava that damages you and zombies. It's a pretty cool detail for this cheap small game. Along with furry cat, yes.

Otherwise, usual, run around arena, shareware 2000 style, shoot, SCHUT, katana to avoid, shop between waves. I actually I am a bit disappointed that all discounts, that I haven't figured out how to get them or if they are random, apply in same way to shop items instead of making for more interesting economic decisions.

And this short game has car defence too, which is actually the second half of the game. You have to defend a car and now all your weapons are weaker, albeit weaker in general. But you can place turrets onto car. Which is fun, I do love some casual tower defence elements in my real-time action game. But here all turrets costed same, upgrades felt expensive while not appearing to be of any effect, turrets had some dumb preference at times of seemingly shooting only one side but that's actually ok and pushes me to shoot and this thing is semi-random too, and yea. There is less strategy in tower part than weapon parts, at least as far as I can tell. But it's fine, just that I only put rocket turrets everywhere in the end. Pretty cool shooting support for a furry cat me.

And it's cheap and short. To a point, all done, allowed me to spend two sick days just playing or sitting there alt-tabbed, I don't mind. And has a furry cat.
