Fate/trip bit is the newest game in Type-Moon's Fate series. The game is a metaphorical rendition of Shirō Emiya's story. The first thing you will notice is that Shirō Emiya is depicted as a pixelated black figure. You will also notice that the other characters from the Fate series have received a similar treatment, and may be unrecognizable if you are not familiar with the Fate story.

You may feel left out or confused if you haven't played other Type-Moon games, but the gameplay is still fun and challenging.

Bit.Trip Fate is a 2D reincarnation of Rez. It's on-rails and you shoot enemies and objects to let them produce sounds, while collecting power-ups to keep yourself alive long enough to survive the boss fights. The worlds and main character aren't as detailed though, and Rez is still the better game between the two (play it if you ever get the chance!), but I'll be honest, Fate is not bad either. It's simple in its presentation, like all the other Bit.Trip games (ok, maybe not Runner 2) and they're never expensive. But, except for Runner 1 and 2, the games never manage to capture my attention long enough. I usually get bored of them within less than 2 hours.

That, and the fact that there are no checkpoints make it difficult to recommend this game. Sure, it's challenging, but it's too unbalanced. if you die during a level you have to replay the entire level all over again. It can be frustrating because you can usually make it to the boss fights without getting hit (too much).

Yup, the boss fights are tough. 'Aren't boss fights supposed to be tough ? And doesn't practice make perfect ?' Well, yes, but only if it's fun to play in the first place. Fate just isn't fun enough.

Pros:
* the music
* the visuals
* the gameplay

Cons:
* it's a terrible, terrible port: for example many users (myself included) cannot aim at the lower third of the screen. This includes not being able to change options or select the final level.

As much as it hurts to say thay, until it's fixed, don't touch it.

This game is damn hard but in a good way for the most part, my only complaint is that starting the level after failing a boss can be tedious, i would play it more but i'm not willing to slug through 10 minutes of the same gameplay just to get back to the boss.

This game is literally a "linear bullet hell". It's a unique and cool take on the shoot'em up genre with nice downtempo/dubstep music. Really short though (I beat it in exactly 60 minutes).

Bullethell shooter on rails. protect your character's heart, and shoot anything that moves. Really good soundtrack which gets better as you do better in the game. The game starts off easy and slow but will have you struggling by the second level or so if you're not careful.

So.... This reminds me of a time way back in the 90's. I found myself lucky enough to be at my first and totally illegal rave, in the center of houston. I had dropped about 9 hits of a trippy substance. So if you have any remote idea what that is like and then only to amplify to 20 hits by the end of the night. Then you have an idea of what this game is all about. And be it that I haven't tried a hundred times all ready, how the hell do you kill boss two.

I bought this as part of a bundle and would not recommend buying it individually. Not my type of game due to the nature of the "rail shooter" implemented in this game.

This game is fun on Steam, but I feel like the Wiimote-Nunchuk control scheme that was offered with the Wii is way better.

This feels like the most casual of the BIT.TRIP games but still offers a decent difficulty ramp except for the bosses that are more annoying than anything. If you're into the BIT.TRIP games for the music though, this is probably the least "tied" to the musical score so it feels a bit out of place compared to the other games in the series. Decent overall though, definitely worth a buy on sale if you're a fan of the rest.

Bit.Trip Fate is somewhat different in terms of incorporating music than other titles in the series, but is still a fun game to play. This game is a literal rail shooter as players control Commander Video and shoot enemies. There are some musical elements when firing at enemies, but this is not a rhythm game. Also, enemies fire in patterns reminescent to bullet hell games, making this game a mix of these three genres of games.
Graphically, this is similar fare to other Bit.Trip games, but has a design similar to Runner with mostly 3d objects. The backgrounds are somewhat trippy, yet have enough detail to stand out as three unique locations that are traversed in the game. The story continues from Runner as well, with Commander Video and his buddies teaming up to destroy Mingrawn Timbletot. Overall, the story is darker as well with the Commander wanting to fight the enemies with anger as shown in some of the cutscenes. Dubstep style music adds to this dark feeling while playing the game, and the music does sound great as well while not being as dynamic in other games. Music cues are made when destroying an enemy, but they are not in sync with the background music as in other games.
Essentially, the gameplay is a literal rail shooter with bullet hell and musical elements. Players control the Commander in a set line path, only being able to move left and right along this path. Like in other Bit.Trip games, the player can increase or lose rank, and this powers up or down Commander Video. The game is lost if Commander Video is in Nether mode and gets hit. Powerups are in the stages, each with varying effects. Enemies shoot bullets and occasionally lasers, some of which have their own kind of pattern to dodge. The meat of the difficulty lies with the bosses at the end of each level. Usually, these guys start out with hard patterns at first, then tend to get easier with the next parts of the boss. Most of my deaths were up in the boss areas, although the levels tend to be easy when repeating them.
This game can easy or hard depending on those who played bullet hell games before. Many enemies will fire a lot of bullets, so it will take some replaying to follow the pattern and dodge the bullets. For me, the first half of the game was pretty easy, but the second half give me a bit of a challenge. It is definitely shorter than Runner with a total of 6 levels that are each around 10 minutes.
Bit.Trip Fate doesn't have strong rhythm elements in the game. However, it is good in making a different kind of shoot em up game that plays great and has some of the style of the series with its art and music. In essence, this game follows some of the same art and music style, but breaks away from being mainly a rhythm game to deliver a shooter game that delivers its unique and engaging gameplay well.

BIT.TRIP FATE is a pixel rhythm game loosely based off of old-school sidescrolling shooters, in which the player is on a literal rail as the screen scrolls to the right, and is responsible for shooting the enemies before being shot. It is the fifth game in the BIT.TRIP series, and pretty readily the easiest of them all.

Like other BIT.TRIP games, as you string together a number of successful hits without a miss, the game will move to a "higher" mode which has more graphic effects, and as you miss enough without getting an appropriate number of successes, you will move to a "lower" mode, which has fewer. FATE continues the pattern of adding a new mode with each successive game, adding GIGA. In addition to the modes, there is a series of powerups which the player can pick up which will modify their weapon in one of four ways. Additionally, the power-up, when combined with GIGA mode, gets extremely powerful.

Honestly, compared to other BIT.TRIP games, the music has less impact, as it's ultimately up to the player when to take care of enemies instead of being sequenced to the music. It consists of mostly easy levels with more difficult bosses, but it never strays into the "I'm not sure if this is unfair" territory that other BIT.TRIP games can sometimes reach. For someone curious what BIT.TRIP games are all about, this might not be a bad place to start, given it will be more forgiving for new players.

BIT.TRIP FATE is different from other BIT.TRIP games. Parts of the on-screen action are still connected to the soundtrack, but the rhythm-game aspect is basically nonexistent. The levels still autoscroll, but you have relatively more freedom of movement than in most of the series. I personally like this game much more than the other BIT.TRIP games I've tried.

The core idea is basically a mild bullet-hell shmup, but instead of being able to move around the screen freely, you can only control your horizontal position along a track that curves up and down the screen. Dodging bullets involves figuring out which available part of the track will let you move the way you want to move. Sometimes this means you need to learn the level and already know where to be in advance, but not often.

I used mouse+keyboard controls; I imagine dual-stick controls in this particular game would be a lot harder to aim with.

BIT.TRIP FATE is a 2D rhythm game. This game was harder than you think, especially for level one. It doesn't have any tutorial system; literaly shows you a screen with the controls and that's it. In my opinion, as I have only played two BIT.TRIP games, the oher being Runner, this is much better than Runner. It's still quite confusing though, but after a while, you'll get a hang of it. The music in the game is great, mainly because it's a BIT.TRIP game. It's more of a challenge than a casual game, so if you have time, I recommen this game.

Another Bit.Trip game that I have in my library that I gave a shot and played.

Controls are liveable, music is enjoyable, and the screen doesn't feel like rainbow vomit coming at my character every second. The game is difficult and reasonably so. The game is a quasi-bullet-hell-on-rails-dualstick-shooter, if you catch my drift. It's solid and after playing it a bit you come to understand the mechanics quickly. I would just like to iterate again that the game is really difficult and in the time I have played I have died a couple times and had to restart the level.

Got through about 3 levels and find the game oddly soothing. I played with a controller so I do not know how the PC controls are but I feel they probably would be better.

If you want a dual stick shooter with a twist and getting close to what Bullet hell games can be you would like this a bit. this game isn't for everyone but I liked it, and so might you.

This is the only one of the series that I beat on hard mode. That is probably because I grew up on arcade bullet hell shooters like this.

It's standard fare for anyone familiar with it. Shoot baddies, get powerups, get obliterated by bosses several times harder than anything that you faced on the way to them (at least until you figure out the patterns). The catch is that you can only move along a specific path left or right. Points for the idea, but there were definitely times where I would have liked to have some freedom of movement.

One final note of warning. There is a reason the boss of level 5 has a special achievement for getting a perfect run on it. Nothing else in the game is anywhere close to as tough as that thing.

It's not that special of a game, honestly.

BIT.TRIP runner and BIT.TRIP runner 2 are great games and I enjoy them alot however this game I did not enjoy because the levels are to long and you do the same thing throughout the whole level which is shoot at things. The music is really good but that is all the game has to offer.

bluecuban
bluecuban

The game is weird. It has a solid idea for a main mechanic to play with, but the does nothing note-worthy with it. Then they throw on the whole Bit.Trip theme for no good reason other than to expand the brand, but really it's a bad choice of art design on here and had me wondering the whole time why anyone would have gone in this direction.

Drackbolt

Huge fan of Bit.Trip.Beat, and .Runner was pretty good. This game however feels like a crappy knock-off, despite being from the same company.

Pros:
* Musical effects are cool; it takes a little time before you realize how and when enemies will die, because they have to fit into the beat.
* Music itself is decent.
* Control scheme is somewhat innovative.
* Cheap.

Cons:
* Crashed on me twice in just 15 minutes; went to black screen once and another time the music played but the screen just said "Connecting to game".
* One of the power-ups causes the game and my PC to lag horribly, for whatever reason.
* Graphics seem glitchy and pixelated, overall just unpolished (and that's accounting for the retro feel).
* While innovative, the controls are frustratingly non-responsive.
* Boring gameplay and not enough in the musical effects to keep it interesting.

Hakyra
Hakyra

It's a decent idea in concept but it won't hold your attention for very long, partially because the execution is not the best and kinda drags the gameplay with it's overly long levels.
Soundtrack is decent and has 1 or 2 bangers, but not much else.

Buy it on when it's on sale if you're interested but don't expect something at the level of Bit.trip Runner.

TLDR: Audiovisually disappointing compared to others in series. Mode+ not as trippy. Slow progression. Stiff on rail movement is limiting and unsatisfying.

This is a shootemup in which you can only progress on a rail that goes up and down. The foe pattern does not match the beat, the music is blander, the blend of 3D foes and 2D protagonist sprite clash. Since this uses a touhou hitbox it is often easy to just ignore the bulletrain and just cross fingers and let the protagonist tank the odd hits that go through even at ther risk of getting a Mode-. Since the game does not improve its flavor a lot when lowering down one mode it does not really seem to matter anyways.

The levels drag on for way too long and eventually you just sort of zone out. The powerups are random and all felt more or less equally useless.

Conclusion: This is library clutter, there are a lot of really clean and well executed shootemups with customization and progression, some have plot, they come in all flavors. Removing local content permanently and hiding from library. No regrets.

BIT.TRIP FATE is a game developed and published by Gaijin Games

The game offers some pleasant graphics and really vibrant colours, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nontheless

BIT.TRIP FATE overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes flawed, casual game to play!

RECOMMENDED :)

This is probably my favorite BIT.TRIP game aside from the RUNNER games. It's a simple premise, but can get pretty difficult and keeps you on your toes. The music is amazing as always. My only gripe is that the port to PC wasn't smooth and there's a few issues and bugs to deal with. I'd recommend just playing these games on other hardware and not these ports anyways. But my point still stands, it's a fun bullet-hell and is quite literally an on-rail shooter. Would recommend.

Cpt. Moist Panties

FATE is part of the six game BIT.TRIP collection (not including the spin-off Runner games in that count), which are short games (2 hours or less) with simple premises. They carry a plot that ties all games together, as well as the common element of implementing rhythm-based play into the game.

FATE is a 2D shoot 'em up, but you can only move along a pre-set path. Given that all 2D shoot 'em ups are on-rails, FATE constricts your movement even further than the typical one by allowing movement only along a line that strings from the beginning of the stage to the end. It moves up and down, so you can dodge bullets and enemies but only if you move along the pre-set path at the right time.

It's odd on paper, but during play it works alright. The challenge comes in dodging bullets among your pre-set path, whilst collecting the pick-ups left by enemies to assist in the boss battle. It's not as punishing as other games in the series, since you can see the bullets coming and there are rarely any surprises. Even if a bullet hits you, all it does is lower your current level (which is increased by killing enemies and getting the pick-ups). Your level plays double duty, as a higher level also increases your outgoing damage.

There's also an easy mode in the game, which allows you to level up quickly. It makes passing the game easier, as you level up during boss fights in all modes, but easy mode makes the level-up much quicker. You save yourself from near death with 4 or 5 shots. It's almost close to immortality.

FATE is a weird idea, and I won't say its fantastic. But clocking in at only 2 hours with a game that is massively less frustrating than RUNNER, it's refreshing. I'd give it a blow average (4/10), but it didn't leave me disgruntled at the end. So I'll give it a thumbs up, even if its the most lethargic of recommendations.

BIT.TRIP FATE is a good old bullet hell with a on rails system..... it stays true to the BIT.TRIP formula of chill electronic music vibes and dodging stuff to survive. Overall a good little time waster that is as simple as it is enjoyable. Full recommend...

Bit.Trip Fate is a colorful twin-stick shooter on rails. Movement is quite clever, as you can move faster when you are not shooting. This kind of detail makes the experience less random and more strategic. Since each bit sequence is predetermined, memorization plays a huge role in how effective you can be, especially against each final boss. Boss battles are really well made and I imagine that putting in the hours to master them will feel rewarding. The better you play, the more intense the visuals and sounds become. This type of feedback is very effective in allowing the player to judge how well they are doing without needing to quickly glance at their score during play. Even your rate of fire and spread become more powerful when you don't make mistakes. There are no checkpoints, but you can select any level as long as you have beaten the previous one. If you are looking for a challenge that will reward you for skillful play, then it is your fate to take this trip. Game on.

BIT.TRIP FATE. Oh, where do I begin. Released October 25th, 2010, this game aged really well, and I played this on Wii for hours when I was young. Replaying this a decade later, this is definitely a cleaned up version compared to the Wii. The graphics while simple, have been improved dramatically. The game looks so smoother at 144 hz and very sharp at 1080p. The entire OST slaps, and the controls are tight. However, I do have a few gripes. The game is a little too tough, especially the mid-late game. The first 2 levels are easy, but once you get to Level 3 onward, the difficulty climbs by a lot. The pink bullets, are honestly just cheap. They somehow always manage to sneak a hit in, no matter what you do to avoid them. If you're an achievement hunter, you have to play the higher difficulties, and the game STARTS on Easy. So fair reminder to set the difficulty to Normal before diving into the game. Another problem I have is that after making changes to the options, you have to restart the entire game for the changes to take effect. Overall, the game is plain fun and pretty addicting. If you're looking for a short, fun yet challenging bullet hell shooter, this is the game for you. I recommend it.

5th game in the series.

This time it's a bullet hell shoot-em up and the main gimmick is that our hero can only move along f(x) function graph. Or, rather, preset path that sways vertically.

It's slow, it's boring, it does the least amount of unique things out of all the games in the series... it really feels like a poor man's shoot-em-up. Rhythm is not really there... Well, enemies deaths get delayed so their primitive beep death noises will play in somewhat sync but there is nothing impressive or anything to set me into trance. If anything, it just makes killing feel worse than in other games of the genre. And... nothing else to write. Some nice boss designs but you can see them all in the store screenshot.

You will get better visual, better gameplay and even better music by playing Thunder Force games for your Sega Genesis Mega Drive. It really feels out of place even in this series.

Also, dubstep genre sucks, anytime I try to listen to various tracks in this genre the only emotional experience I get is "yea, this is dubstep, this is dubstep brand noises" and they all meld together.

A splendid port of BTF. There are a couple issues, like the game defaulting to Easy when you first download it, no Linux support, but otherwise, it's a fantastic game in it's own right, and certainly better than every touhou ever made as it doesn't have anime. You should pick it up.

BIT.TRIP FATE is the fifth part in the BIT.TRIP saga.

Gameplay:

It's an on-rails, bullet hell twin stick shooter. You shoot your way through enemies and collect cores from their remains. Let me tell you, out of all of the BIT.TRIP games, this is one of the most fun and somewhat satisfying. Killing a ton of enemies and hearing a loud 'beep' or 'boop' as cores fall out of their bodies is REALLY cool, in my opinion at least. There are a lot of enemy types that range from the "wouldn't hurt a fly" type to ones that throw a tsunami of beats at you. Some enemies also react to your MODE. The new mode introduced is GIGA, sporting a dark and gloomy purple theme. If you aren't in this mode, a few of the enemies may go easier on you, while if you are in GIGA, the enemies can have completely different attack patterns. There are also bosses at the end of each stage. Odd numbered stages feature challenging mini-bosses, while even numbered stages contain full bosses with different phases. While fighting bosses, it's best to be on a mode of ULTRA or above, as the higher the mode, the higher the damage you deal.

Story (SPOILERS!):

Taking place directly after BIT.TRIP RUNNER (and Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien), CommanderVideo and his friends are in pursuit of the Mingrawn Timbletot. After Radbot begins losing power, a little person known as 'Robotube' pops out and returns to CommanderVideo's friends. The Timbletot shows up, still spreading negativity and being anti-Commander Video, and CommanderVideo, determined to catch him once and for all, chases him. All seems to be going well, but on the inside, CommanderVideo's patience is wearing thin. He gradually becomes more desperate, to the point where he is beaten and bruised into frustration. Anger begins to rise in CommanderVideo, and by the end he meets his nemesis, the one he'd been hunting down. The Timbletot himself. After a long fight, CommanderVideo can't take it. His anger was too strong! He takes control of himself and charges into the Timbletot, killing him, but at the cost of his own life. In the end, CommanderVideo was able to kill the Timbletot, but it caused a sacrifice. Were it not for his anger, he would've killed Timbletot and lived to fight another day, but alas, negative feelings, a storm of rage got to CommanderVideo first, leading him into his inevitable fall. Shortly after the battle, CommandGirlVideo, CommanderVideo's closest friend, arrives at the arena. She tries looking for his friend, calling his name, checking around close by... but he was gone. Nothing remained, other than the conclusion. CommanderVideo was dead. All that CommandGirlVideo would feel would be sorrow, frustration and regret. After the credits, we are shown CommanderVideo's ascension. It was time for him to return home...

Music:

The music moves away from the chiptune, retro styled music and moves towards a more dubstep and depressing approach. Nothing much to say here other than how it makes you feel, but that's you, not me. You might not have the same feelings as me.

Anyway, that's all I got for now.
