I bought Bloodrayne 2 primarily for it's fluid physics based gore system and hack n' slash gameplay. And well...

I have quite a few issues with the game.

For starters, the game is extremely campy with that early 2000s cringe, and a lot of the dialogue or cutscenes aren't all that good. Then again, you don't exactly buy it for the story...However, even from the beginning, I've had a number of issues that damaged my first impressions of the game.

The first major issue is the controls. Boy are they super clunky, and poorly optimized that about 2 hours into my playthrough I had to switch to a controller. Even then, that only made it bearable. Secondly, was the "Platforming" or "Acrobatics. Now, on the surface, these are interesting and dynamic. But the issue I've had is often times I've found myself wandering around for several minutes in an area wondering where the hell I need to go, and since the pipes, scaffolding, or what-have-you blend into the environment it makes it hard to distinguish what can and cannot be interacted with. It's only when you go into the Aura Mode that you can actually see where you need to go and what you can jump on.

And often times, because the controls are so clunky, I've leapt to my death, grabbed the wrong bar or just simply didn't do what I wanted it to, no matter how hard I tried.

Secondly, there are times when in order to progress, you need use something in the environment, with either very little, or no direction or implication while goons infinitely spawn until you do something. In the first mission there's a fireplace that I guess you were supposed to interact with, but it either never mentioned it, or I simply forgot what the characters had said, so for 10 minutes I was killing goons wondering what the hell I was supposed to do. Even then, a lot of the times the choices don't make sense. Like throwing bodies into a fan until it's destroyed? Or a wood chiipper? yeah these kills are cool and super gory, and are required to progress the level, but they almost never come up again.

And even in later levels when you have to do these manditory environmental kills 4-5 times it gets vaguer and vaguer, to the point where there was a "Cutscene" showing a newspaper printer, and a guy flipping a switch, and I guess that's supposed to tell you that you need to throw these guys into the printer press because...reasons?

Then there's the combat. Which goes from manageable to straight up bullsh*t in the span of 2 levels. The combat naturally begins to ramp up, going from fisticuffs, to guns, to weapons, and then in one area, you have to fight a swarm of weapon weilders, then once you take care of them, you have to scale a building while being shot at, then you have a boss fight, with infinite spawning goons that you have to kill and if you die (which you will), you have to do it all over again. It got to the point where I will shamelessly say that I enabled God mode, and excessive dismemberment to one-shot enemies, because honestly I couldn't be fucked to do it fair if I have to put up with this bullsh*t. And you know what, the game was fun from that point on.

Additionally, the fights, even without cheats devolve into button mashing fests, or just simply pressing Y (or square for Playstation controllers), to feed, and then some other button to preform a fatality. The boss fights are tedious, and copy pasted throughout the game. Also, the "Targeting" is some of the worst lock-on I've seen in a game and have often found that it's just better not to. As the lock on will just pick whoever the f*ck it wants even if there's someone 2 feet in front of you that you want to shoot, and it pickes the f*cker 60 feet behind them.

"Blocking" is also completely useless and directional, so this means with particularly mobile enemies, like the "bosses" means that your better off just out DPSing them. And dodging also doesn't really do much. The "powers" you get are also situational and pretty much useless, with the exception of rage, and freeze time. The only one that's useful is the aura ability which helps you find where you need to go. Even the endgame boss was disappointing as I killed him in like 30 seconds using an ability you get earlier which just melted through his hit points.

Overall, I was thoroughly disappointed by this game and it's obscene difficulty spike, poor controls, laughable story, reused bosses. And just poor mechanical optimization.

LOVE this game and I used to play it when I was younger.
The only thing I'm a bit disappointed about is when Rayne's wearing my favorite outfit "Dark Rayne" she's missing some of her gray hair.

-------------UPDATE-------------
Def, def, def recommend, but you have to do it a certain way: get it on sale, and play it with cheats on. And not just any cheats, but SPECIFICALLY "gratuitous dismemberment". THAT is the way this game is meant to be played; just trust me, it's wicked fun. There's more I'ma say, but if you take nothing else, take that.

Remember when games had cheats? And they were the perfect way to fuck around in games you liked that were either otherwise kinda pains in the ass sometimes or you lost progress or your old save and didn't have all your shit unlocked? Yeah, pretty nice. BR2 thankfully comes from not only the era when we were figuring out how to do Spectacle Fighter games, but also when devs still put cheats in games.

Honestly, the game's more than fine on its own, but it goes on longer than it has any right to, and the devs fall back on "infinitely spawning dudes who need to be thrown into a thing" or "boss flanked by infinitely spawning dudes who needs to be killed" and toward the end "infinitely spawning BOSSES you have to kill a bunch of". And I will say, I appreciate how well the harpoon works in this game, but two things:

1) I liked it better when the harpoon grabbed dudes and pulled them in to be eaten

2) Throwing guys around is not SO good that you had any right leaning on this THIS MUCH

That said, as annoying as it gets at the tail end, I described BloodRayne 1 as a "Hellsing Simulator" and BloodRayne 2 is so much that but even better. Jedi Outcast is so goddamn famous for its "realistic dismemberment lightsaber combat" (and don't mistake me: it SHOULD be; I bought that game when it came out. We were all losing our minds), but you never hear about how BloodRayne 2 does the same thing, and it totally does. NOW infinitely-spawning dudes are FUN AS SHIT because you get to hack them into dude-confetti ("manfetti"?). And like, that is exactly how it SHOULD be, thank you. Local Man With Pipe should not even REGISTER to our favorite vampire waifu. Fuck outta here, Local Thug #4.
Even your GUNS blow dudes apart, and that's before you get the world-destroying Carpathian Hammer weapon (or you can unlock it from minute 1 with cheats), which not only obliterizes dudes, it melts the fuck outta bosses, too. Factor in Rayne's greatly expanded powerset like Ghost Feed and Super Speed/Freeze Time; it's exactly what I imagine playing Alucard from Hellsing would feel like.

I'll probably never finish this game legit, but I promise you, I will be playing this game in the future; had a fuckin' whale of a time.

Also, when I finished my first play sesh, I found I had taken 69 screenshots. I feel the requisite amount of shame over this. -_-

It's still funny.

-------------INITIAL-------------
I've started doing these reviews a little bit when I first start playing and then wrapping up after beating the game, and I've liked that so far.

Gotta say, this game kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda fuckin' rules. "Much has changed since you played the first one, my friend!" BR2 is much more of a brawler than a shooter, what with the addition of a lock-on and proper combos. You can tell this came out right alongside the original Devil May Cry. DMC has a more robust combat system, as you might expect, but BR2 gets the job done, and it does it with style.

Your powers are greatly expanded here, too. Not just environmental stuff like climbing, swinging on pipes and poles and (scripted) wall-hopping, but also every single one of your power modes (the D-Pad) has become modal. One click on D-right puts you in Dilated Perception (slow motion, good for avoiding gunfire). Two taps puts you in super speed mode, which has the same slow motion effect on everyone else but YOU move in real-time, or damn close to it. Three taps and you get Freeze Time (I'm told; I haven't gotten it yet). Others are less syllogistic: one D-left gives you Aura Vision (see health of enemies, see objectives), two gives you Ghost Feed which... Yeah, basically astral-project and drain a dude while you turn his friends into cubelets.

If I had any complaints, it's very small stuff. I wish I was murdering nazis rather than Joker-fied street punks, but it's not like I'm not going to eat these people with abandon. Additionally, BR1 is much more flexible with when you can eat people. You could knock a dude down in BR1 and just hop on pop-- er, top, and chowify. Can't do that here, and the harpoon no longer brings people to you for bottle service. Instead, you can ragdoll them in a given direction, which is occasionally used for (mildly annoying) puzzles, but more often it allows you to basically stun one (or a few, if you throw one into others; very good for disarming dudes with weapons) enemy so you can turn his best man into a prune. My only other gripe at this point is that Rayne jumps about a quarter as high as she could in 1. The huge air time made navigation a bit easier in 1, but I think 2's level design might have improved enough to mean you don't need it.

Besides which, any and all complaints are absolutely devastated into screaming atoms by the fact that NOW we have a checkpoint system. While I haven't been instakilled by silly program nonsense up to this point, anytime I DO biff it, I don't get thrown back too far, and those two truths working in concert do a very good job of keeping you playing longer per session.

Also I don't have to pick up disposable guns that you blaze through the entire set of in ten seconds of focused firing; instead you have the same guns that have different firing modes, which you load either by spending your own life or jamming them into people and using THEIR blood as ammunition. I call it a vast improvement.

I'm genuinely shocked at how good this game looks, too. I said this with 1 but it's even more pronounced here: even for a remaster, a game from '04 has no business looking this good. Honestly, it also feels just as good as it looks in your hands. Rayne moves quite agreeably, as long as you're not too close to some environmental features like rails (which you can slide down when you don't mean to), but those are probably the only times I have any difficulty naturally moving any way I want to.

So thus far it looks great, sounds great, and feels great, and I get to spin-kick people down comically long flights of stairs or throw them off buildings while my disembodied ghost eats their buddies and the rest are reduced to a slurry of blood and smeared makeup. I'm having a wonderful time, and I would very much like a BR3, honestly.

BloodRayne 2 is a classic favorite of mine. I remember when this game was new and I could but it at Walmart. I was 17 then. Back when my Dad didn't want me to play gory games, I still went to church youth group, and I could still go behind their backs and buy this at the store anyway, lol.
If you have never played BloodRayne before, its and old school hack n' slash where you play as a vampire named Rayne, which is still one of my favorite female names ever. You get some pretty awesome powers like time dilation, blood rage, and you suck the blood of your enemies for health. The gore system is pretty satisfying also. you can cut your enemies to pieces and see the detailed (for back then) insides. Thinking about it now, I want to go play it.

One of the most monotonous games I've ever played. The combat encounters are identical, the level design is sterile, the platforming is disgraceful, the boss battles are appalling and the droll dialogue delivered by atrocious voice acting is an assault on dignity itself. The only positive feature carried over from the original game is the frenzied and variegated spectacle of dismembering people, but even this is sullied by the constant subjection of inane drivel from the enemies.

Completely bereft of passion and life.

Garbage.

Instead of taking elements that made the first one good and improving on them Bloodrayne 2 is a poorman's god of war with poor combat and awful new mechanics. You have to toss enemies into certain areas as appose to just cutting them down the way you did in Bloodrayne 1. To top it off it is unclear where you are going many times. The bosses are fixed in a way so that you have to complete about 2 to 3 minutes of crap before you can fight them again and can easily get soft locked if you don't have the correct health and power meter or just smack them once at a time. I'm in the club right now and oh my god it is one of the worst club I have seen in gaming. I couldn't stand getting past the boss and will not be coming back t finish. Awful camera that is about half of what you got in the original. No shooting like you could in bloodrayne while feeding. Lack of creative ways to approach situations due to the linear nature of the game. It's horrible.

It's really an accomplishment to have controls jankier than Bloodrayne 1, but they did exactly that.

At least the first game kinda had sauce cause you could master the janky controls and there was sort of a fun learning curve to it, but this just never stops being clunky. Oh and you can go fuck yourself with the bossfights in this, really just not worth bothering with. Don't touch this game.

so a few things wrong with this port, certain areas have different music playing for the battles that wasn't in the ps2 version. no graphical glitches from my recollection or any for that matter. that being said, this game is worth owning and playing. the music is great, voice acting superb, graphics timeless, story enjoyable, and gameplay is the best thing since sliced bread. i hope to god there is a sequel because i have been waiting for one since 2004. i never get tired of playing this game. and after all these years it still has great replay value. so don't be a snob at it's age and buy it! old doesn't always mean bad and new doesn't always mean good. words can not summarize just how important this series needs support because me and many others want a sequel because rayne deserves one. so buy it, turn off the lights, put your headphones in, and get lost in the vampiric world on a journey with one of gaming's most bad ass vampire slayer!

I love Rayne! I grew up playing BloodRayne, so this was a nice way to revisit a great game. The graphics are good based on the fact that this game is very old. BloodRayne 1 came out 20 years ago. They updated the graphics and it looks great in my opinion. It's not as good as today's graphics but it was a lot of fun to play. The controls for BloodRayne 2 are more advanced than BloodRayne 1. Rayne learns more moves.

I personally played this on the original Xbox back in the day and to see it in 2021 on a modern PC is amazing. I've played for a handful of hours now and it runs pretty smooth for a game of its age and now that it supports the Xbox One controller with no additional setup, is just the icing on the cake.

Now i see why the first one got better ratings... lol. The enemy AI are kinda dull, the audio is boring, terrible checkpoint system, the ragdoll just looks so wonky, combat is very limited, Rayne is less badass in strength, repetitive grapple objectives. Pros - better graphics, more blood and gore, i like the gritty city feeling and the story and ending make up for it.

It's actually just as good if not better than the first. The first couple of levels aren't that good because you're fighting these Marilyn Manson goth wannabe's and it's kinda weird but once Rayne gets in her classic outfit, gets her gun,it seems the cool baddies come out! If you don't use cheats,it's pretty hard. I use cheats sometimes of course because I just want to relax and go through the levels lol. The graphics are really great.Rayne looks super hot in this and come on,thats why we are playing it! Rayne looks much clearer in this one(amazing attention to detail wink wink). She has some awesome flip moves like catwoman in Batman Returns. The kills can be a bit graphic but also it's so over the top it's not realistic. I had reservations at first about some of the special kills because they are pretty messed up lol but the baddies really get on your nerves and are quite challenging, after a while you want to slice and dice 'em just because they are frustrating as hell. The music is really cool, lots of industrial metal stuff that just makes it underground and badass. Once again Rayne has three ways to kill, blood sucking, blades, and guns! Honestly that's what makes it satisfying. It holds up,looks great and is a lot of fun.The story is a bit iffy.Whatever. She's a hot vampire that kills baddies and that's enough for me haha

The combat system is improved from 1st game dramatically, which is good because the combat and humor is pretty much the whole game. There are some frustratingly clunky sections for sure, but applying different strategies makes them easy. People who played Blood Rayne 1 need to know Blood Rayne 2 is bigger and more complicated game. Its important to know there are no different game difficulties. I found the first Bloodrayne to be interesting, if unpolished, so I really wasn't expecting the sequel to be one of the worst action games I've played. There's bland sewer/office/factory levels galore, and a cliche family revenge story, but more importantly, combat is tedious when it works, which it rarely does. You will spend a lot of time watching Rayne do her various bloodsucking animations, as it's how you get all three of the game's resources. And spending the five seconds or so to drain each and every enemy you can is something you'll actually want to do to avoid the buggy, inconsistent, and unsatisfying melee combat. Really a game I shouldn't have bothered finishing.

Is Rayne hot? I guess, but if you're the kind of human trash that plays games for "fanservice", there's better options - the first game's bloodsucking is far more erotic.

At 15.4 Hours writing this review. This Game is not as bad as some people say it is. I played the first Rayne and can say it's an improvement over the first. It brings new combat into play and it makes battles more intense. More strategy is required to win. Only complaint I have is the puzzles. Puzzles all feel the same and can be repetitive. If this game is difficult for you I recommend you get better at playing games, because this was a absolute walk in the zoo. You're able to tackle every situation basically the way you want. Yes in some spots the enemies continue to respond, but they are extremely easy to beat. Graphics have improved significantly over the first game. Give it a shot if you liked the first and I doubt you will regret it.

I got this for owning the original BloodRayne 2 and that one wasn't very good. Combat mechanics and having the same task of throwing dudes into a grinder of sorts is not very fun. I tried to finish this game twice but I couldn't reliably do whatever the game wants me to do when I fight bosses and just die in three hits. And having to kill a bunch of dudes every time I need to get too the boss does not help either. I don't suppose texture update fixed the fundamental gameplay issues which is a shame.

I am gonna be honest, this isn't how I remember BloodRayne 2.

Maybe I was blinded by nostalgia goggles and was like "Oh, I remember having fun with this game on the original Xbox, lemme try out on PC!" First of all, the sound settings defaulted to mute, minor gripe but I thought it was odd. I'm also hard of hearing so when the subtitles don't appear when the characters are talking in some instances but do most of the time, it makes it hard to follow whatever story is going on.

The combat is bland, even for 2004 standards. Pretty much all you have to do to beat enemies is suck blood, slice them in half during the suck blood animation, or refill your guns while sucking their blood.

The Ephemera Clocktower boss fight was bullshit. Using the slow motion really isn't fun, just annoying.

The lock on system barely works half of the time, the gun play is tedious and feels underwhelming, and don't get me started on the grappling hook.

Overall, I don't think it's a bad game, by any means. More of a mediocre game. I'd recommend it if you want a piece of 00s nostalgia and to play as a vixen, redheaded, goth dhampir.

"Bloodrayne 2: Terminal Cut" looks so much better with this HD upgrade, but otherwise still the same game as its non-HD predecessor, so I am just going to cut and paste that review here.
---------------

I wanted to like Bloodrayne 2, but I couldn't. It had some really nifty ideas, but poor implementation and very frustrating controls.

THE GOOD

Bloodrayne 2's graphics seem to have aged well though they are clearly dated. The good parts of Bloodrayne's game play are in her moves and abilities. Her melee attacks and combos are really pretty, are a lot of fun to use and never get tiresome to watch. Sections of the game showcase Bloodrayne's abilities as a vampire where she has to use acrobatic abilities to get to hard to reach places; sort of an early version of the parkour stuff from Assassin's Creed. Activating her bloodsucking abilities and following with Fatalities are also super cool. The voice acting is fairly good, not great; I never found myself wanting to skip the dialog cut scenes even though the story and actual dialogue wasn't all that good.

THE BAD

Most of the bad stuff comes in the combat. If Bloodrayne gets hit by a bad guy before she can attack, she gets stunlocked and keeps getting hit until the enemy combo is finished. If a second or third baddy jumps in during that attack it could take some time before she am able to do anything. That doesn't go two ways though, the enemy can attack during Bloodrayne's combos though thankfully it doesn't result in a stunlock.

Some of the level designs are poor. It is easy to get stuck in a level and not be able to proceed. There are spots in a couple levels that require a certain action at a certain spot, and if one misses that action and does something else, then the player can't proceed and can't get back to whatever spot/action she needs to perform and is forced to start the level over. What's worse is that the player doesn't know what they did wrong, but requires looking it up on the internet to find what they did wrong. If I have to restart the level because I didn't do one specific thing at one spot with no way to rectify the mistake other than restarting said level, then that is poor level and game design.

But the single worst thing in the game was Bloodrayne's Harpoon ability (think Scorpion from Mortal Kombat). Bloodrayne is able to use this ability to grab someone and throw them across the room or off buildings. The problem is that it's hard as balls to control the strength and direction of the throws. This wouldn't be so bad if the ability can be ignored and not used, but it's the opposite. There are multiple spots in the game where Bloodrayne has to use the harpoon ability to throw enemies at certain targets. What's worse there is one spot where Bloodrayne has to harpoon 4 different mobs into four different generators before any of them finally burn to a crisp and drop to the floor. Bloodrayne can't proceed beyond this point until she succeeds. The harpoon and throw can be interrupted by any enemy attack, and when the required "harpoon" moments happen there are always multiple enemies fighting me. These moments occur frequently enough to illicit some choice words each time they come up, if you catch my meaning. This is the main reason I stopped playing the game.

Overall Bloodrayne 2 just isn't fun. I got tired of it about a 1/3 of the way in and ended up activating cheats so I could jump to the last level and play the final boss and see the end. Come to find out, I didn't need the other 2/3 of the game to understand the ending.

I can't even say it was worth the sale price I paid for it way back when.

GhostlyDirge
GhostlyDirge

This one makes me a little sad, as just about every aspect of it's gameplay seems to be a legitimate attempt to improve upon Bloodrayne 1. The story is okay, if nothing to write home about, and the boss fights range from borderline pointless in their ease and simplicity to absolutely infuriating in their length and gimmicks. That's not to say that the game is all bad, just be aware that every time you think "hey that was awesome. I feel cool right now" , there will be a moment of gnashing your teeth at either at a boss fight, the clunky parkour, or the melee controls being as responsive as a tortoise in a 50 year coma.

At this point, you're probably thinking "This is a positive review, why are you attacking it so much?". The reason I went with a positive review is because once you've put in some time, found your favorite combos and general style, and especially after you've beaten the game once, it actually does become quite enjoyable. After you know which pipes to climb, which mob fights are infinite, and where levers and switches are, this game becomes a fun, solid slasher.

While the game as a whole certainly could have been better, if you're willing to give it a chance, it can turn into a good time. If you're looking for a game to start up an immediately have some slashery fun, this isn't it.

I've always considered BloodRayne 1 and 2 to be very addictive. I just love the close combat in BR2, and if you look up the Community Remaster Mod and patch the game, it will really look like a PS3 era game, instead of PS2 era. Since Terminal Cut finally fixes controller compatibility, the game plays very fluidly now. I found myself completing a level in half the time it took me with keyboard+mouse.

Oh, please let this game be a sign. I grow tired of the duck and cover of the 2010s and the "difficultly" of dark souls. I want a game where I feel like a monster ploughing my way thru a river of blood.

I hope they pick up this game, and keep the old game designs of the game, and avoid most if not all the "improvements" of 3rd person game-play.

You can tell I miss the games of old, and this is one of them. I am happy they gave this for free to me, but I just hope they are going to pick up this game series.

It is a great shame I really enjoyed the first game but this game has aged quite badly. The camera gets too close to your character restricting your view when in combat allowing enemies to sneak up on you. The new platforming sequences can be a nuisance with the controls not being brilliant, making it far too easy to make a mistake and have to start the sequence again. Combat can still be fun but the decision to replace all the World War 2 weapons from the first game with a couple of low powered supernatural pistols was a mistake. Also the game relies too much on constantly respawning enemies in some sequences. The first game may not be perfect but I enjoyed it a lot more than this one.

Has the gameplay aged less than gracefully? Yes.
Is it decent B-movie schtick that's less serious than lets on at first? Yes.

Its a shame because BloodRayne deserves much better than this, Its not a remaster, same as original and controls are awful.

Don't like gun mechanics, other than that game is pretty fun to play.

I hate the original game due to both gameplay (read other review that have more detail. The boss are sponge or you need to learn the block unlike the first game) and other factor.

At least this version fixed some issue of the original BloodRayne 2. The original one is very very hard to play as it is very hard to jump on wire which seems this "Terminal Cut" fixed that issue .

The other drawback of the original game still exist, such as checkpoint save that way too few , etc. But at least this version is playable. But except diehard fans, i would say better just play the BloodRayne : Terminal Cut and forget 2 exist.

The other vampire game i played is Blood Omen which has similar control issue but at least i beat it without cheat. While this one, i haven't finish it but probably i would just enable cheat to save my time.

I received this for free as an owner of the original BloodRayne 2.

So Bloodrayne 2 has the distinction of being one of my most beloved, yet absolutely hated games, out of all the games I have ever played before. Never has a single game left me completely divided on how I felt after playing it. Even as I was playing this Terminal Cut, in full, for the first time, I kept thinking "I can't review this."

So the good first. BR2 in a nutshell, is a modified BR1, but with everything cranked up to 11. So many new features and ideas are brought to this very creative sequel. Feeding fatalities, gymnastic platforming, environmental death traps, new characters, tons of voice work, tons of powers, tons of costumes, tons of BLOOD. It's wild just how much of an upgrade BR2 is compared to its original.

Squeals do not always work out, there are a lot of great "part 2s" in video game history that define their franchises. Street Fighter II, Resident Evil 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Silent Hill 2, the list goes on. I believe BR2 makes the type of advancements that these games made to their originals, launching their franchises forward.

Sadly, not all the new features, while very much well-welcomed, are not executed well.

Terrible harpoon-chain targeted system, enemy-launching mechanics that don't always respond/hit, camera enraging controls during gymnastic platforming, and, while tons of powers, nowhere near the amount of energy is available to you to ever use them all sufficiently.

Two major changes from the original BR, are Rayne's movement and the gun-play. While I do enjoy the new movement/game-play style of Rayne, the new gun mechanics are beyond weak compared to the original BR. In the first game, you could salvage for pistols, SMGs, rifles, even rocket launchers. In BR2, you slowly unlock roughly 6 variations of "blood-shots" throughout the whole game, getting the most useful very last (and they don't even work on the last boss anyway). On top of this, they require enemy's blood for reloading, so now, you have to choose to either reload or heal during dire situations.

And dire situations there will be a-plenty. If you read my BR1 review, I mentioned how the game makes it very clear that this is not going to be a easy game. BR2 "kinda" does that, misleading you into thinking that this sequel has been tweaked and improved along side all of its grand new features.

Oh you must be one of the many who never played beyond the level Twisted Park, because at this point, the game slams down, one of the most god awful difficulty spikes I have ever seen in a video game before. The game takes everything it "tries" to teach you about dealing with your enemies and says "**** you" with the introduction of "ninjas" into the mix. Ninjas that can only be harpoon under strict circumstances, can melee and shoot you (most enemies do one or the other), can electrify you, can evade your attacks, and to polish it all off, almost always attack in pairs. Giant enemy mini-bosses like Fore-mans are bad enough, but the ninjas break the game beyond any possible reasoning. The game was already barely manageable before they are introduced.

The feeling this left me with, back in 2004 with the original BR2 release was incredibly bitter. The game was great, but still very bad at the same time. I knew this as a big fan of the franchise. But everything after the Twisted Park level, just destroyed any hope I had for future BR games (ironically accurate, if you look at the franchises history now).

Ultimately though, what this also does for BR2 itself, is leave Rayne feeling extraordinarily under powered for a person who has been "killing the undead for 75+ years." Either Rayne is a liar, or this game is beyond stupid. Hell, your kicks do more damage than your blades! You could beat this game, never using your blades (outside of fatalities) once if you wanted to. "Powering up" though out your time with this game also feels beyond pointless, as every new ability is heavily negated by some other strict factors, leaving you one of the most cookie-cutter games in existence, next to World of Warcraft.

When you have God Mode activated, and you are STILL getting your *** handed to you.... yeah, your game is broken.

So why give it a thumbs up? I'm getting there, but there is one final thing to talk about. The ending...

I've seen some crap-tier endings in my lifetime. BR2 has to be one of the most wasted endings I have ever seen. I probably can't give the details, as it is spoilers, but, seriously, DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING from this games's ending. DON'T EVEN EXPECT THE MAIN CHARACTER TO BE IN THE ENDING.

*I am literally face palming right now, even all these years later*

So, to wrap up on some good features, Laura Bailey, of course, brings us the best Rayne that we will ever get. BR2's Rayne is the definitive version of the character and will always be the best version. Severin is a great addition to the game, balancing out Rayne's character and giving her someone to bounce off of. Kagen is a throw-away villain, but Ephemera and Ferril are solid villains (sadly, they screwed over Ferril, by not featuring her in any of the many CG FMVs...).

So, to finally get this rant over with, you have a game that shoots a franchise higher than it ever has (and will be), but at the same time, makes some of the stupidest executions and balancing mistakes that I have ever seen in a single-player game before. I love this game for everything it tries to do right, but absolutely hate it for all of it's failures. But to say that I would not recommend this game, would make me a liar. Like the original BR, this one has cheats as well (probably brought back, because they knew their game was broken), so at lease you can not have any regrets like I did, and enjoy the game for what it is worth. Seriously, just activate God Mode and don't look back.

A final score? Honestly I don't think I can. As much as I love it, I really hate it at the same time. So I will give two ratings: one ignoring everything that is terrible about it, and the other, focusing on everything I hate about it. *humor me*

Part of me that loves it = 8/10
Part of me that hates it = 1/10
Rayne= Over 9000!

Bad camera movements and angles, bad combat mechanics and the controls... oh my god the controls, why even put in those acrobatic levels when the controls are so unresponsive and so clunky??? This game basically feels like a failed testing project prototype of Bayonetta. It is a drag to play this game, no fun, no excitement just frustrating chores!

This game is kinda a mixed bag, Terminal Cut itself works fine and if you own the og game you get this for free just like the previous one so that's a job well done. It's mixed bag for me mostly because of some choices devs made.

Good
Quite a graphical update from BR1, some setpieces are just gorgeous. Rayne level of swag can't be contained just like her jiggly tits. Combat system is more fluid, lots of combos and fatalities. Story is fine.

Bad
Linear level design feels like a step backwards from they had in BR1 but it also allowed more scripted sequences. It feels like BR2 took a lot of inspiration from Blade (both character and setting) and killing goons instead of nazis just isn't that satisfying and sometimes is downright boring because there is huge emphasis on harpoon based 'puzzles'. It's ok to have them in the game but there's a couple in every single level and it gets old fast. Boss fights are more like a test of will than test of skill, particularly Slezz, Xerx and Unraveller are just there to make you mad by design because at the point when you get to them the game threw everything but a kitchen sink at you and I guess they had to come up with something other than cutting everything to pieces.
_________________________________________________________________________________
From the mere size ration of good/bad it may seem like this game is not worth it but no, sometimes it's frustrating, sometimes it's boring, sometimes it feels unfair but at the point you kill Kagan most of the bad will be forgotten and you will be satisfied.

A good remaster of the original. No longer need to fish for third party mods, only to play at decent resolution and widescreen mode.

Overall It's a good hack and slash game with creative weapon set and level designs.

Sadly the original and remaster suffer from couple of notable issues. Glitchy camera rotation/angle and rather stiff character actions, until the extra moves are unlocked. If you can look past that, you'll be having blast of a time

BloodRayne 2 is a massive improvement over it's first game and actually gives a series a story to follow on and the greatest thing of all? Rayne hasn't changed much at all. she's still our sexy, red head, family murdering, half vampire waifu we fell in love with as teenagers. The only issues I have with the game is the same issues I have with the first one. Toward the ending of the game, the well balanced levels become frustrating and annoying. All the enemies do too much damage and making the last levels a struggle. There's few very badly designed levels that make me want to fire the person who designed them. Lastly, there's not enough enemy types. Most of the enemeis in bloodrayne 2 are boring compared to bloodrayne.. The only interesting enemies in bloodrayne 2 are the bosses. Still a great game and hopefully BloodRayne 3 will come out and blow our minds.

I have been a fan of these titles since I owned them on the original X-box and I will say this, they still hold their charm.

Ziggurat has been trying working very hard to raise not just community support but faith in a series that the original producer Majesko destroyed and sold the rights off like the assholes they were.

We wanted the update for innate controller support on PC and we got it.
We wanted for support on HD cards and we got it.
We wanted for that the original devs get top billing for the re-release and we go it.

I never asked the new guys to give me the things I wanted but they did

Is this game perfect; no, far from it. Is it entertaining; well I think so. Is it worth supporting it now when it maters; yes. Buy when you can and support the new boss, they are not like the old boss.

The platforming is abysmal. The combat is nowhere near as fun as the first game. I really like the main character, and after trying really hard to get into this game several different times o different platforms, there's just nothing here worth playing. Play Bloodrayne 1 and be done with the idea you will ever get anything like it again.

Remastered 4.5/5

TL;DR: BloodRayne2: Terminal Cut is essentially an HD-version of its predecessor. If you’re interested in playing BloodRayne2 with amplified visuals, this is the game for you. That being said, please be advised that this version of the game still includes many of the bugs present in the original-edition.

The Good / Pros

    • The visuals are far superior to that of the original-edition of the game. I almost didn’t recognize some of the details on Rayne’s attire at first, it’s much more realistic (texture-wise).
    • The audio-quality is pretty superb all things considered, much unlike the other version of BloodRayne2 here on Steam where said dialogue is audibly compressed.
    • It’s BloodRayne2, the game is quite interesting both story and game-play wise. Every time I thought the game was finally reaching its conclusion, it defied my expectations.

The Bad / Cons

    • Platforming is frustrating in this game. Given how this version of the game is advertised, I had (false) hope that perhaps maneuvering the environment would be made a little easier. While it really only affects quality of life, I personally felt this really put me off of the game at times.
    • Hit-boxes are a bit…confusing. Time and time again, when trying to feed on an unsuspecting enemy, I’d press ‘E,’ but Rayne wouldn’t do anything. This would be so bad if it didn’t more-often-than-not result in my death. That, and the ogres featured in this game can apparently hit Rayne through walls and around corners. While they’re not incredibly difficult to kill (utilizing either the environment or blood-furry), the fact that their attacks stun Rayne made their ability to hit her from 10 miles away all the more annoying.
    • The game has some strange bugs. While most people wouldn’t necessarily complain of an enemy set themselves on fire—given that said enemies are vampires and fire almost instantaneously destroys HP—it was a little bit of a let-down that one of the Kestrel-triplets jumped directly into one from the overpass during the slums mission.

Consensus
Honestly, I don't think BloodRayne2: Terminal Cut is a poor purchase; there aren't too many (legal) ways to relive this relic of the past short of purchasing a legitimate CD-copy of the original-edition. I recognize that the current-state of BloodRayne2 will likely put-off many potential players as, admittedly, they can be quite frustrating in the moment. However, I loved how challenging BloodRayne2 was, through and through. You don't get to feel like a bad-ass for too long, and that's something I'm somewhat fond of. Additionally, while dated, the dialogue is still somewhat comical from time-to-time, especially from Rayne and Ferril's goons.

Gabby666
Gabby666

It is well made for the era, but if you are expecting a BR2 because of the first one then you will be disappointed. This is not a BloodRayne 2, feels more like a spin off made with other controls. Rayne is very limited with her jumps but now she can use sticks and stuff to climb. The graphics are good, I wish this was how BR1 was made... would have been lovely to see Mynce with those graphics.

BlitherPaladin
BlitherPaladin

Where do I even start; I guess that I am very upset.

Look, here is the thing Terminal Reality did a great job bringing the game back with some enhancements - no problem there. What is the problem is that this game doesn't have anything that made the previous one special.

Usually with sequels you expect improvements and there are many, the music is better, the graphics and art style are both amazing, the improved gore and decapitation is better.... but what about everything else?

1) Platforming - Fuck. You jump 1/4 of the height that you could in the original. Lara Croft style poll swinging is an acceptable addition but it's so frustrating to do it as many times the game demands you too and you often get shot up while attempting to do so.

2) Gunplay - FUCK. Nothing like the original. The first game had a breed between Matrix and Max Payne, in this - boring, barely any damage, although the concept behind the guns is cool.

3) This is gonna take too long, so here is list of things that arnt as good or mechanically bad in this entry.

Bloodsucking - nerfed
Combat - boring / repetitive
Mandatory Environment Scoring to Progress every 30 seconds or so.
Boss Battles - tedious.

Again I am sad, not angry, not disappointed - a game with such great art design and first entry to just dip so low.

The combat is much improved over Bloodrayne but bad combat has been replaced with boring to fight damage sponge bosses and infinite wave enemies combined with frustratingly badly implemented "puzzles" geared around harpooning enemies then "throwing" them into specific environmental objects. What's cool as a bonus way to fight is terrible as a puzzle solving mechanic when you have little control over where the enemies fling nevermind getting them to a specific interactable. The story's fine but not worth the frustration of the rest of the game.

This review will be almost the same as i made for Bloodrayne 1.
I played this game when i was a kid and at this time there was not too many bloody-gore-slasher games, at least at my area. It was my first expirience with such genre and this is a main reason why im in love with Bloodrayne 1 and especially Bloodrayne 2. There is unique style and feeling in second game, memorable enemy designe and fatalities. But there is some issues that were in a previous series and you cant face them even there- combat feels clunky sometimes (not as bad as bloodrayne 1 combat, but still) / broken hitboxes / stucking in textures by jumping near wall or barrel/ and the most frustrating -> platformer elements, and by this i mean - sometimes when you perform jumping from a stave/pole your character changes direction (you facing forward->your character decides to jump left/right/360) and most of the times it ends with you falling down to where platformer section started, and this issue was not fixed back in my day when i first played this game and im facing this bug even now in 2022.
This game is classic for me, thats why im leaving a possitive review, but you got my point - there is some stuff that will cause a frustration and probably will ruin your gameplay expirience.

This game does not entertain at all. Levels are way too dark but good heaven they are linear designed so it won't be difficult to navigate map to map. Combat has to be the worst part of this game when most of the time I just spam blood sucking so I could perform THE SAME EXECUTION MOVES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!! They also gave you an akimbo type of pistol that can be shotgun, smg, grenade rifle, fire thrower which is useless in every combat encounters... You can get various of abilities through out the game but again most of them are useless but the spirit soul sucking one and the "ultra rage" skill that I can only used for like 3 times(you only get this at the final level anyway) and yeah the third times is for the final boss which dude totally got shit on so much for the final boss that can be beaten in 10 seconds LOL. Every single boss fights in this game is always the same strats, you flipping around and kind of slashing and hope that you got lucky and won because the hitbox was fucked up! What is the story it about? Witness the first few chapter then skip it and save times, the audio was so loud in those pre-rendered cutscenes almost killed me! Not a good buy at all.
