i ******* love this game, it kicks so much ass
fast, frenetic and gorgeous to look at, the artstyle is SO good

I'd also say it's the perfect length, especially considering NG+ being a variation on the main game

It's a good game and I don't know how these people are beating it in 2 hours. Maybe they're playing on super easy mode.

CasualCheetah
CasualCheetah

High-octane, overstimulating boomerang-throwing chaos. It's got a really smart structure/good pacing to it and the game runs for as long as it needs to in order to get its ideas across. If there were any more abilities, enemy types, and nearly-groundless arenas, I might've been too exhausted to complete it. Nicely done.

lvlapricot

despite beating it in only 3 hours, it was still getting a bit samey and boring by the end. Super fun though, would recommend

Honestly a pretty good game. Very, VERY fast paced which I absolutely adore, and while you have a very limited arsenal the way you can use it is so vast that it never gets boring. The biggest shortcoming however is the length, it's a very short game but a very high quality arena shooter. Definitely worth the price.

Game is immensely short, but super fun. Check it out if it seems like something you'd like but keep in mind you're buying a game that is less than 3 hours long

Boomerang X is an extremely fun evolution of movement shooters with a brief yet engaging campaign. Worth the price but could definitely do with some more gameplay overall. The bug lore is solid, too, along with a really great look. Mummy guy do flips and I have fun.

I have been eyeing this game for a while, finally pulled the trigger when I got it on sale and... it's one of the best games I have ever played.

It only took me about an hour and a half to beat, but I will likely revisit this game PLENTY in the days to come. The movement gives you complete aerial control while allowing you to zip around like Spider-man, the kills always feel earned as you slow time to get the perfect shot on someone's back, and the level design makes each area and arena completely unique. The final boss fight alone is worth the $20 price tag, but for the amount of game there is you should really buy it on sale. I only wish there were more, I'd buy DLC for this game in an instant if they ever made more of it.

Got it on sale for $10. It's definitely worth the experience at this price. Fast paced, very different kind of first person shooter gameplay. Great variety in environments and it's art style is charming. Definitely pick this one up!

This is probably one of my favorite games now, fast paced arena style shooter with tons of fun movement. Easy 10/10. My only gripe with the game is how it handles multiple abilities, I dont know why they dont let you assign a button for an ability and rather just make a "Switch Ability" button, which can sometimes be really annoying.

Love it! It's like Doom meets - a Boomerang? Starts out simple enough, but gets waaay more challenging as your progress with new enemy types and additional abilities being introduced. Soundtrack is awesome, the gameplay tons of fun, and the finale chapter is pretty insane! Highly recommended!

This game has great art direction and controls amazingly well--even on a controller. Both of these combine for some great combat and I did enjoy the game. However, I cannot recommend it because of the cost. Personally, I feel as though $20 for a 2 hour game is just too much even if the game is pretty fun. Nonetheless there is NG+ and an endless mode with a leaderboard, so if either of these appeal to you the price may be justified. For me, $10 for each hour of fun just was not worth it when there are a lot of other games that will give me more bang for my buck (e.g., Ghostrunner).

Beat the game in 1 hour and 20 minutes so it's real short.

Lift Nuts
Lift Nuts

Beat the game in a bit over an hour, very fun all round. I absolutely adore the visuals and the sound design, both are phenomenal. At the time of writing this i havent tried the endless mode, or anything apart from the base story mode itself, but will definitely find myself coming back to this when i have some time to kill and some Boomerangs to X. The arena areas in the main game are very arcade-y (you can get achievements for speed or other small challenges) which is very nice, brings a natural instinct to retry as much as you can to get just under that time threshold.
There's a certain muscle memory when it comes to the more frantic arenas in the game, but it works wonders with a fairly forgiving seeming hurtbox for the player, i felt like i was slipping in and out of enemy models half the time, which was a fun thing ngl.

Overall, incredibly fun, gorgeous both visually and sound-wise, simple story- doesn't overstay it's welcome and more importantly just a fuckin blast to play.
Will return with an edit if i ever feel any different, but its a pretty solid game.

This is THE definition of adrenaline and bad.. assery? But in all seriousness, BANG! has done an amazing job at perfecting the movement, making combat extremely smooth and satisfying, and creating a game that is all around fun. The 3 or so main mechanics, which you will learn when you play the game, are fun to play around with, but you are rewarded with an achievement if you do not use these mechanics on a level. The artstyle is very unique, and sort of grainy and looks like you ripped it out of a comic book. A very fun game. Only thing is, the game if you die once or twice per stage, it will take you 3-4 hours to fully complete. If this game gets some form of DLC, with more stages and bosses, I will 100% buy. Please buy this game, you will not regret it.

Scout Cuomo

An awkward feeling game that once learned starts to put you into an exciting groove similar to doom eternals cycle. Just for the love of good bind your 2 powers onto individual keys, it makes it go from clunky to hunky.

SaltHunter

Beat the game in one shot, one sitting. Price per minute is high, but fun per minute is far above par with price per minute.

Great visual style, clear communication about enemies and their moves. The character feels great to control, there are cool abilities to complement the main weapon alongside optional slow-mo for lining up precise shots.

Difficulty and pacing are top-notch. At the time of writing this i have only played "new game". After the introducion level(s), the gameplay and difficulty ramps up perfectly, and end precisely when it needs to.

Performance wise the game runs fine, only "issue" i had was in the lave area that the framerate got lower and some screentearing occured. This only happend in 1 arena.

Definetly worth your time and money.

Edit: New game plus is exponentiallymore difficult. Well done.

A Missed Opportunity

Where should I start?

As the title suggests I feel like there is a lot missing from this game but why do I still recommend it?

For me graphics do not matter, my friend described it as "goofy" but I think the art style fits the game perfectly because it is never distracting from the intense combat. I prefer this over the style of Ultrakill and other similar games since I felt overwhelmed by the sometimes overpixelated graphical aspects.

Sound design does the job, for a movement shooter there is not much reliance on sound but the effects are punchy and clear. (note: I have an insanely expensive audio setup, but this should be true for all devices)

I'm going to touch on the combat and gameplay loop in one segment. The game introduces the player with mechanics after 1-2 stages, you hit strings to make a rythm which in turn unlocks a new ability. The game gives you a really quick tutorial on the new mechanics introduced then throws you straight into an arena.

Now this is all good but here is the problem. These arenas are built to make the player learn these mechanics in action but the game never forces you to actually use them. For some this is a good thing since it introduces variety to the combat, but towards the end of the game newer mechanics feel really useless. Here is an example: the Stomp mechanic, you kill 3 enemies quickly in the air to be able to use this, but besides the introductory arena it becomes completely useless since all the arenas coming after that make zero use of the ability. I wish the boomerang "curving" skill gap had more or I should say, any use cases.

Basically, there are an overwhelming amount of mechanics for the length and complexity of the situations you get into. I either barely or never used 2 or 3 of my abilities through out my entire 75 minute play through. (Longer if you care about New Game+)

Which leads me to another criticism I have. The enemy variety is really low. This would be fine if the game had occasional boss fights or actual mechanics that punished you, but there are like 5 basic enemies who die to like 3 shots worst case and then a boss fight in the end which was meh. I feel like there are a lot of missing opportunities here.

My second the to last paragraph is about the story, or whatever it is? Like, you get introduced to this worm character who tries to give you some ideas about the world you are in but even he doesn't know anything and in the end you won't fine any answers or anything.

Now it might seem like a lot of negatives, but at the end of the year I still had a fun time playing this game. I'd only recommend buying it on a discount though.

Boomerang X is a game I recommend for gameplay alone. The only holdup to the whole experience is the confusing, nonsensical story. Of course, there are nuances that are lost when you're fighting in the arena based combat while speeding up and slowing down time, dodging lightning storms, and defeating elephant sized enemies with tiny weak spots. So the fact the story never grabbed me is probably on me.

One of the best movement-based shooters I have ever played! The fast-paced gameplay paired with the wonderful music and visuals creates an exciting experience. Each level finds interesting ways to iterate on the previous one as you progress through the campaign with bosses that demand you apply new strategies to defeat them. By the last level, you'll be using every single thing you've learned to make it out alive. Though it's short, I believe the campaign is the perfect length to showcase all the game mechanics have to offer, especially with the various "Endless Wave" modes you have to satiate your hunger for more. What's more is this is an excellent speed game for anyone who enjoys trying to get that perfect run with flawless execution.

TL;dr - If you like the frantic, movement-based gameplay of DOOM Eternal combined with the speed of ULTRAKILL, all tied up with singularly focused combat mechanics like SEKIRO (i.e. one primary weapon w/ the boomerang and your handful of secondary abilities), you cannot go wrong with BOOMERANG X.

Smaller indie games don't usually catch my eye, but this one did when I saw it announced.

This game is great. If you have experience in FPS games then I definitely recommend this one. It's kinda weird learning how to play at first but once you get the hang of it, you wont want to stop playing until your wrist starts hurting.

One thing that really blew me away was the sound design and music. The style alone is beautiful enough but the music makes this game get so incredibly intense at times.

Easily one of my top 5 FPS games. The only negative is how short it is. If you have good aim you could beat this game in 2 hours or less, but the New Game+ and Endless mode make up for it.

Really hoping to see more from this game.

Absolutely a great game. Definitely short, it took me about 3 hours to beat the campaign, but it's VERY replayable and an total blast to master. It runs great, I didn't encounter any bugs (well, I did encounter some Arthropods), and personally I find the art style to be very pleasing. The movement is difficult to learn, but eventually you'll be soaring around the arena destroying flocks of enemies without even thinking of touching the ground.

I recommend Boomerang X to anyone with an itch for a different, fast, and unique kind of shooter. But I can understanding wanting to wait for a sale. I really hope that with some more support we can see an equally fun and even bigger project from this team!

This is a game I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did, but it really feels unlike anything I've ever played before. First of all, its fast-paced gameplay really forces you to get good at the game very quickly, and doesn't feel overly difficult. Moreover it doesn't throw all of its mechanics at you at once, it gives you a long fight or two in between where the map and enemies are designed to teach you how to optimize your playstyle and abilities. The art style is very unique; it's simple enough that players can quickly distinguish between each enemy (which is great for a fast-paced game like this), but the style is not visually-cluttered either. It almost feels like a bullet-hell game in first person, which makes it all the more satisfying when you are able to avoid getting hit by an enemy completely. The focus of this game was not the story, it included minimal dialogue with a silent protagonist; I believe this aided the game, as its main focus is the combat. However, the work that went into the diverse maps really pulled the world of Boomerang X together. Overall a very excellent game from an excellent developer!

Boomerang X is a very well made indie with a lot of good going for it.

The art style is gorgeous and every dungeon is more beautiful than the last. Gameplay is fluid and lively which is only accentuated with the diverse enemy types. Abilities earned along the way are quite useful (Though you're barred from using one of the coolest abilities if you want to earn all the achievements) and the pace of earning them is well balanced.

I feel the games only negatives are a slight repetitiveness, its lack of a real story and the fact that there's only one true boss.

Other than that I think its a fun enough time worth picking up on sale.

It's incredibly fast-paced, and while it does introduce you to each mechanic individually, before giving you a good chance to make use of it, it does not hold your hand. You're expected to learn quickly and make use of everything at your disposal, and to stay focused in every fight. I deeply recommend this game, though it's definitely VERY short. I beat the main campaign in under 2.5 hours, not counting that I have yet to do the achievements, all the endless modes, or New Game+. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, this game's short length isn't going to give you that, but if you're looking for an excellent and high-skill experience for a moderate price, buy now. 9/10 would pay full price for this game.
First play through only takes around 2hrs for most being as this game wants people to speedrun it.
Lil arcade game about you washing up on a island that was occupied by ant people that all died from a creature in their mines, you find a boomerang as your one and only weapon against said creature and its spawn.
The game is made around this boomerang from its movement, instant return, teleporting to it mid flight, and slow-mo during weapon charging being the main tools you'll use.
Combat levels are varied in landscape and environmental hazards from lava floors/"falls" or spikes on walls and ceilings Areas in-between serve up to act good lull periods with small story telling with help from the one and only NPC Tepan a big bug that likes rat bones and paper (whom you have to talk to twice in every area to get a 6% achievement) Tepan gives you clues on what happened even tho he was there for the last bit of the ant peoples lives.
Enemies are varied and each pose unique threats to you, 5 of which can cause major issues if you dont focus them or your time moving around the area will get harder. From flying blades, squids, jellyfish, bugs that put shields on weakspots, land sharks, rats, wizards that teleport when you aim at them, monsters that summons more squids and more. A giraffe, big bird, frog and dragon are the main "bigger" enemies that will pose the biggest threat to you.
Final boss was a combination of all environmental hazards and weakspot targeting which is a good challenge for the player mastering their movement mechanics and timing. my only complaint with the boss its the upper part of the area is the only viable area to move around and restricts the players movement even more.

A nicely made fun game. Some of the design choices around movement and time control could have been done a little better, but they work well enough for the frantic action to be fun.
