A thin set of new features that only added a little to the game - probably should have been DLC. Some levels were nice but there just wasn't enough new stuff there. And a level with tubes, CPU's, Main Storage was unlike all the other challenges before and made me give up on the game (finished the first BC). A time critical LONG challenge that if you fail you go back to the start. Generally the save points are random and frustrating and so you can lose a lot of progress from one bad teleport shot. The first Budget Cuts was crafted far better, this felt rushed and a money grab. Has damaged the brand for me.

*edit* now that i think about it, the reason i stopped playing vr was because of this game.

In my opinion, Budget Cuts 2 is inferior to Budget Cuts 1 in several ways. The level design in this game involves too many cramped narrow spaces where teleportation just doesn't work and you end up getting stuck to where you are forced to use free locomotion. Knives can also only be used once because they are destroyed after throwing them. Whereas, in the first game you could reuse knives repeatedly. There is also no arcade mode in this game like there was in the first game. The difficulty is also more frustrating because there are more robots and robots with shields that toss grenades. Overall, it's just more of the same but worse. I personally would much rather play Budget Cuts 1.

Yet another amazing vr game!! I didn't like this one quite as much as the first game, but that was partially because the novelty of vr had slightly warn off by the time I got to this game. However, I still had a ton of fun hiding from evil robots!

Would definitely recommend!

you can make the guards shoot each other, and then watch as they go up to the person they shot and say 'who could have done this'

bonus: once i accidentally hit a robot because i dropped a guard off of a catwalk onto a different guard

As good as this game is, it really has its downfalls. Mainly the story, but the gameplay can be quite frustrating too.

I think the worst part about this is the story. As cool as the story is, they really wrapped up things in the worst way possible, and in a really unfulfilling way. Ah yes, everyone is HAPPY now and they ALL have EMPATHY that's stupid. What happens to the main character? What happens to Wanda? What happens to the entire company? None of that is answered, they just have empathy now. Wow. And the last few levels aren't any fun stealth missions, they're far from fun in fact. A resource management minigame followed by a tower defense minigame? That's nothing like the entire rest of the game, I don't see why they felt the need to end it off this way.

The story isn't the only issue, however. As much as you don't want a game to be super hand-holdy, it's still nice to give you a hint on what to do. In some of these levels you get literally nothing, I had to use multiple walkthroughs just to figure out how to start getting through them. It builds off of the previous game's gameplay, but says nothing about how to do so.

6/10. If you came for a good story, I'm sorry. If you came for good gameplay, you'll get it, but with its downfalls. The first game was much better.

Budget cuts 2, without spoiling any of it, is more or less exactly like Budget cuts 1. The game still revolves around finding a path forward or finding a keycard, and sneaking around enemies while doing it. The game is, assuming you don't get stuck, about as long as the first game was, and it's also $30, this time with no DLC to play if you get bored of the campaign. I think BC2 is amazing, but maybe wait for a sale.

Edit: So, looks like this game is getting DLC for halloween. I'll probably update this thing once it's out.

Edit 2: WOW i waited a while to edit this review. After finishing it, Adam isolation is way better than i thought it would be. I just expected the main game again with Adam stalking you through it all. SO WRONG. It's not a TOTAL overhaul, you still play the same stages in the same order, there's just no cost optimizer and fabrications is pretty much identical. But there's enough different so that players who have mastered the game (Such as myself, i like to think) can't breeze right through it. All of the codes you find are different, and sometimes you need something completely different from before to progress. And of course the fog everywhere, just adding to the tension since you can't even see your doom approaching most of the time.

And of course how can we forget Adam, the star of the show? He does indeed follow you, although it's easy to catch him teleporting, and some of his spawn locations when he DOES teleport are pretty questionable. (Noteworthy example would probably be the cargo elevator at the end of efficiency distributions.) Also a lot of the level design outside of fabrications REALLY wasn't designed for Adam's BC2 hide and seek game play. (Sort of irrelevant note, but Adam doesn't have any new dialogue outside of his BC1 and BC2 vanilla dialogue, which is a SUPER missed opportunity.)

Overall though, fun new mode, didn't expect budget cuts 2 would ever recieve any new content.

This was a really good sequel to the first one.

I liked the fact that the game just assumes you played the first one so it doesn't spend too much time teaching you the mechanics of the game.
The story was nicely continued from the first game which was very neat.

The only thing I didn't like about this game was how difficult it was to find certain things in some levels. I had to look at a guide twice to complete the game, but it wasn't too bad once I finally found that one thing I missed.

I highly recommend you play both Budget Cuts games!

I feel kind of in the middle with this game but I don't think I can recommend this in good faith when I honestly think the original Budget Cuts is better than this one (after they upgraded it last year). Budget Cuts 2 introduces a fair few new elements, and in the beginning it's super cool, but quickly you'll likely start feeling there isn't too much that it has expanded upon. A major element, the bow, is nearly unusable to the point I ditched it completely in favour of sneaking or throwing items, which is a huge issue since the game encourages you to fight more than using stealth.

To explain why the bow doesn't work: You have to form a line between your hands to shoot, and aim down the sight using your Headset so you see what you're aiming at because there's no laser sight. Not only is it janky to load because you have to do it with both hands, meaning you cant teleport or do anything else while you do it, you have to fully commit to it. The sight is two lines that you can match up pretty easily, but when you draw the bow, it turns into *one line*, so you can't really tell what you're aiming at. It would've been a much better experience if this was a one-handed crossbow, and I'm surprised this idea was considered fun, because hitting 10% of your shots while the AI hits basically 100% of their is not fun.

The game also has a few bugs that degrade the experience. Most annoying bug is that switching to another tool sometimes just locks itself, so you have to press the button again to make it work as it refuses to connect your hand to e.g. your teleport gun. Opening pipes sometimes makes your hand let go of the hatch for no reason, which can cause death in certain scenarios. A huge annoyance that the game inherits from Budget Cuts 1 is that when you teleport, you don't teleport *yourself*, you teleport an obscure box that is your play area, and wherever the ball lands moves the middle of this box. This can cause you to sometimes not be able to teleport properly if you're not in the middle of your play area. This game was designed for sitting/standing teleportation only with no locomotion and feels like it was made for 2015 VR mechanics. I have probably forgot a few bugs because I took a break for weeks while playing this.

Despite having minimalistic environments, this game suffers from lack of directions, much like the first game but more frequently this time. At some points, the game gives zero indication of what you're supposed to do, which caused me to get completely stuck several times. I should also mention that during the absolutely final part of the game, after retrying it a few times and taking a break for a few minutes, I had to only defend an objective for maybe 20 seconds rather than 60 or so before it, which either was a bug or the devs decreasing the necessary defense time for each time you fail, which would be fairly diminishing of your final victory.

Lastly, the story leaves much to be desired. Instead of expanding the world and story, seeding more mysteries, it's all just a long trail to do one specific task with a severely anticlimactic ending. The highest point is actually somewhere in the middle, but doesn't live up at all to Budget Cuts 1. The final "puzzle" is a confusing mess where nothing is explained clearly and it's stacked against you, and the final task just feels like the developers gave up on wrapping the game up in a satisfying way. It's a step down even from Budget Cuts 1, and it feels like they took the story of Portal 1 mashed with slight elements of Portal 2, figured out how to make that last 5 hours, and didn't expand at all on the world they as they could've. Watching the credits roll, I felt like there could've been more here, like they decided to just cut the game short to get it finished quickly, or that the design/script for the game was just the leftover of what didn't fit in Budget Cuts 1.

In short, if you played Budget Cuts 1 and just want a conclusion to the story, go for it on a sale, but you won't be impressed, more likely frustrated. Otherwise, be happy with Budget Cuts as it is, the story of this game can be written on a napkin. All I feel after being done is that the game didn't feel like a sequel, and I miss Budget Cuts 1 more. This should've been DLC, maybe, not a true sequel. I hope their next game proves this studio is going in a more interesting direction than this game indicates.

Honestly was so hyped to pick this game knowing where it left off from. But things seemed so different compared the original, the game is a shell of its former self. Your knives are now one use only, the ai is boring and lame, no real story or initiative to continue on, the maps are boring and have little to no detail and very bland, the only real redeeming quality of this game is the bow but even then that's a reach. The bow itself can be clunky at times and glitchy. I couldn't bring myself to completing the game because it turned into a chore due to having no real motive to do anything, everything felt so flushed out compared to the original.

Budget Cuts 2 is a VR Stealth Action game with much more varied gameplay and environments than in the original. I've played the whole thing without mutators to get the intended experience and it had just the right amount of challenge and balance between combat and sneaking.

Stealth mechanics is pretty basic: it solely based on vision cones, shadows do not impact players visibility. I usually don't like such approach to stealth but here it actually works thanks to teleporter tool. It makes sneaking way more exciting and thrilling thanks to it's limited range and projectile speed. That is especially true for the boss level which is just downright scary)

Combat is very frantic and satisfying: throwing feels responsive and enemy wound/death animations make it look very impactful. And the fact that robots can still function for a few seconds even after being lethally damaged makes every encounter tense.

Parts of this review will contain spoilers for the first Budget Cuts, and this sequel, ill tell you before revealing any beforehand however.

If you have just played Budget Cuts and loved it, and didn't want it to end. Get this game. You'll love it. Though I do have minor complaints over parts of it, it is still a great game, and amazing sequel to the first.

This game takes the original and expands on it massively. Offering newer, much more diverse environments. A new tool that can change how you look at situations. And powerful new enemies as you try and finish what the first game started.

Okay, now I am going to get spoilery. Both for this game, and the previous installment.
This game is really fun. You start out on a train section, like how the last game ended. The next section is a very fun highrise area where you traverse between large skyscrapers, avoiding Supervisors. Then to find one main building that you ascend to the top of. These two environments are completely unlike anything from the first game, and are amazing experiences.
This new tool you find is a bow. It is able to shoot both arrows, but also any object that can be held in your hand, and placed in your inventory. It has long range, and alot of accuracy. If your able to learn its physics.
I do have a big issue with the bow though. Its two handed.
Obviously its two handed, its a bow. But thats a huge issue in this game. This means you need a manipulator tool and a bow tool out to use the bow. That means no movement. So if you plan on using the bow, you cant spontaneously whip it out and fire, like you might a knife. Its ideal for long range, or desperate attacks with no lethal ammo. Though it is very difficult to learn at long range. And in many cases. An enemy will realize your firing at them and pursue you before you can kill them.
If you learn how to use it well, its probably a very effective weapon. But in my experience, I maybe killed a handful of robots with it.

My second issue is the enemies. I was expecting a larger variety of enemies in this game.
There are two new enemies. Prosecutors, and Armed drones (I do not know their names, they are the small flying guys). Armed drones are very similar to the Drones from Budget Cuts. But instead of just alerting Supervisors, they now pursue and attack you with a gun. They really arent a threat, except for one section.
Prosecutors are a whole different story. They are armed police like robots with a riot shield and grenade launcher. They will slowly march to you, and fire volleys of three grenades at once, tracked onto your rough location. These grenades do lots of damage, and can destroy robots, and even themselves. As far as I know, they cannot be killed. Atleast with conventional means. Their own grenades blow them up if they hit a wall, but I do not believe they can be knocked out with blunt objects, or stabbed with sharp objects. Even if you did get behind them unseen, they just wouldnt register it.
My issue with the enemies is lack of diversity. I was expecting something more. Prosecutors are cool, but get extremely overused. Infact they are the substitute for the final boss. Where instead of a single large enemy, like ADAM. Its just a short wave based attack of Prosecutors.

This game really could have done with 2 or three more enemy types. Maybe some sort of sentry Supervisor with a minigun. Or an XL Drone that attacks and pursues the player during the skyscraper section. It could have made an appearance at the end as a boss enemy. Or even like a SWAT Prosecutor thats huge and destroyed terrain trying to kill the player. Lots of missed opportunities that could have pushed the game from good to amazing.

But overall, I love, and recommend this game.

something about this just feels... bad. although I've played the same amount of time with the original, it feels as though the game is half the 1st's length, with the only real "step up" from the game being the bow (which I don't like). However wha this game has butchered the most is the level design. The reason why the 1st game's level design did work was because of the small room that you were usually in, there was a few big rooms, but the massive amount of enemies in those rooms made it so the feel of being caught still had that "you're so fucked" feeling.

I don't know, maybe I'm dumb, but I didn't enjoy this game that much, despite sitting through it.

The idea is great, the inventory and teleport mechanics are great. But both this and the first game are in bad, bad need of quick save. That end bit was A) not based on skills I'd learned up to that point and B) infuriatingly difficult. And turning off achievements for trying to adjust the difficulty is a dick move. And then you just cut to white for the ending. But that represented less than 10% of the actual game, so...

If you liked the first this is more of the same. It's fun. But the ending has got me salty it was terrible there is a huge shoot out with the new enemy with a shield and you have to get bombs from the vending machines and fight them. I sat here on Halloween Evening with my brother and my girlfriend and we tried to play this new mode for the purpose of feeling fear. It was way worse, than we could have ever expected.

It's just so quirky and funny. Take your time to enjoy this one, look around and explore. It's not an easy game, and you will certainly die, a lot. But this game for me perfectly balances between challenging, scary, and funny. Three things that are hard to combine, but Budget Cuts 2 manages it.

If you liked the first game, definitely get this one. It's definitely the same feel but with more action and variety.

Game is a lot more generous with 'ammo', throwing knives, etc, and gives a new bow/ranged option, which was a lot of fun. You also get a bit more inventory space to store all this with. The first game seemed to want you to simply sneak past most of the guards, only killing the ones who were very in your way. This one you can borderline clear the map most of the time if you're so inclined.

The environments are also a lot more varied than the first game, it's not all 'white office'. You start out on the train from the ending of the first game, for example.

Similarly to the first game, I never figured out how to make 'snap turning' or 'distant object pickup' work (I don't remember the exact names, but the two toggles it gives you when starting a new game). I did the toggles but didn't seem to make a difference. Still had no way of turning/reorienting the camera, which is annoying, and also have to get your hand right up to something to grab it, also annoying, especially in combination with not being able to turn.

That's a minor gripe however, I'd still overall recommend this, but probably wait for a sale. I got a good deal on the combo 1&2 pack, and that was well worth it.

Loved Budget Cuts 1, but returned this. More action and less stealth... which for this game, isn't a good thing. Story wasn't as good, and the addition of the bow is lackluster. The game equivalent of a money grab?

I enjoyed the first Budget Cuts quite a bit. This one I did not care for as much. I played the first one a long time ago, but IIRC, the story was more engaging. I enjoyed being very stealthy and killing everything in the office. This game actually forces you into wave-based combat and to deal with enemies with shields who relentlessly chase you around.

Despite not being great, the game does plenty of things right. The VR interactions are done well, the robots are funny, and the graphics are good. The game took me about four hours to complete, though I was not being thorough looking for secrets. There must be quite a few and lots of other stuff to do, as I barely got any of the achievements.

I would recommend wishlisting this one for a big sale.

to be painfully honest here, in my opinion the addition of the bow was a mistake. as i see it, melee combat is still the staple, and the best way to play the game. instead of sniping bots like a backline bitch you have to spring into action, hide, stab and throw knives precisely. basically all that is thrown away for "sit n' shoot". grenades would have been so much more badass if you HAD to throw them. in every other departament however, absolutely banger game, even better than the original. also, makes me panic like no other.

TL;DR: Do yourself a favor. Don't buy this game. Even on a deep, deep sale. Its boring, frustrating, brain dead and bare bones waste of time. Its a tech demo at best, and a cheap cash in at worst.

I was actually surprised this game came out in 2019. I had to do a double take. This game plays like something that came out in the early, early days of PSVR or Oculus 1.

First off, the game is SHORT. Most sources list it at 5 hours, but you could finish it in less than an hour if you know what to do. The graphics are bare, there's about 2 character models, and you get a single bow with 2 ammo types. The "stealth" is laughable, especially if you just turn on the walking mode.

This is a tech demo at best. Asking 30 dollars for this game is honestly an insult. It barely adds anything to the first game, and in this day and age or Boneworks and HL Alyx, this game adds nothing to the VR scene. Its bare bones, minimum effort, and a slog. That's not to even mention its checkpoint system.

The worst offender came in the final level for me. After suffering the long and boring warehouse level, you're asked to "hack" the main computer, which is what this game calls its final boss. By hack, you teleport room to room, slide a switch, and try to dodge grenade launching shield wielding police bots with no weapons to defend yourself. Its fine for the first 5 minutes, and if it was only 5 minutes long I would honestly say it was a great level. But it goes on and on and on. Meanwhile the whole time, the cheapest voice actress they could find is yelling in your ear to "hurry up" and "step on it" because another fuse is going to blow. And another, and another.

Even after suffering through that, the last cable I need to hook into a plug spazzed out and started swinging widly. I had to restart the game, and low and behold, the save started me at the beginning of the level. Yeah. I have no beef leaving this game unfinished after that.

On its own, it is a fantastic game and I had a huge amount of fun playing it, Highly recommend. However, if you are considering buying this game then it's pretty likely that you have already played the first one, which is what I'm going to compare this game to in this review. I personally prefer the first Budget Cuts, but they are slightly different in terms of gameplay. The big difference is that the first game was primarily focused on sneaking around and trying to avoid detection, and the supervisor aimbots rarely missed, making them much more deadly (and terrifying to encounter). You were given knives and sharp objects, however throwing them was pretty difficult so the only option was to get close in order to kill them, but usually it was better to try to get past without being seen. In this version, the supervisors have much worse aim but shoot faster, and level design makes it extremely hard to stay undetected, so usually encountering bots means either fighting your way out or spamming the translocator gun whilst trying to dodge their bullets to get away. This game also felt a lot shorter, it took me nearly twice as long to complete the first game, and to me it feels like this one needed a bit more to it, the whole thing just felt like an extra level added onto the first game rather than a sequel. Anther difference in the 2 games is the whole vibe of them, the second game wasn't as immersive as the first. This might be because the first game had a clear objective from the start, you are stuck in a building and you have to find who is in charge and then escape, in the second game you feel left in the dark about what the main objective of what you are doing is until the end, but before that its just someone telling you what to do next. The first game also had a very interesting level of mystery to it, leaving you wondering what entirely is going on, who is the person on the phone, what happened to all the other people, who is Rex Crane etc. There isn't really any of that in the second game, which really takes away from it in my opinion. So if you are more interested in a stealth-based, longer and more mysterious horror-ish game, then if you haven't already played the first one then you should definitely get it, but this game probably isn't for you unless you want to see how the story ends. If you are more interested in a fast paced fight-or-flight short game, then this is perfect for you, and you probably don't need to have played the first game unless you want story continuity. Compared to the first game, I would say the first game is much better, however that doesn't take away from the fact that this is still an amazing game which is very fun to play, just in a different way than I had fun playing the first one.

I really wanted to like this game, but it's just too frustrating. You'd think in a sequel they'd improve on everything from the first game, but in almost every aspect this is a step back. Mostly, it's far too difficult. They introduce a new enemy type that is already hard to kill one-on-one and then this stealth game turns into a wave shooter against these things at the end. They give you a bow, but it's kind of hard to aim. They should have stuck to stealth. And while I certainly appreciated the change in environments, the level designs and some of the puzzles were too confusing due to how large and non-linear the levels are. There are several paths or rooms that are empty and lead nowhere, so you spend a lot of time wandering around wondering where to go or what to do. And all the drawer/cupboards are somehow even more empty and pointless than in the first game. However, some of the new environments are pretty cool, the story gets concluded, the stealth sections are still enjoyable, and the game still has all the comedy and horror elements that you'd expect (thanks in part to the same great voice acting from the first game), so if you don't mind all the frustration that comes with it, maybe give it a shot on a steep discount.

Frustrating and somewhat forgettable. Too much mandatory punishable action for VR - one-hit death with so many guards without manual saves resetting your progress again and again (see last level). Uninspired plot, some parts feel like rewritten Portal 2. Very short story. Too many empty drawers.

It's a nice weekend filler, but definitely not the game you'll remember.

If you've played the first game, you know exactly what to expect. It's more of the same, but better in almost every way. New clever puzzles, new weapons and interactive items, and a brand new way to explore things

A more combat/action based game to its prequel, in my opinion more fun, smoother, still linear but can be changed with mutators. If you wanna shit out of your genitals then turn on the ADAM isolation mutator.

It is quite the experience for sure and had a bunch of scares with the Adam scene in the basement with me dying to him in the most funny and scariest way possible. Any how, although this game is quite scary in it's presentation, it was lacking something for sure. The game play was alright and that final boss fight was REALLY difficult, but left kinda underwhelmed? I think the main reason like many other people that bought the game, just wait until it's on sale or spend your money somewhere else. Good game, horrible price. Story is meh, stealth is only an option and not essential, good spook if you have friends to see your reaction.
7/10, if it was lower than 20 dollars I would put it at a 8.5/10.

An excellent follow up to the original. It's definitely not as long, but it's good to have another helping and it's got new fun stuff. I liked the train level, and the enhanced mechanics. Not a big bow and arrow fan, but this one is very cool to use. I got some Boneworks vibes near the end of the game, for sure, along with the respectable boss battle. Before that, I like how I finally got to kill Adam, the scariest boss in all of VR (to me). The way they choreograph that scene, such that you do the exact kind of Sarah Connor vs Terminator in the Factory pantomiming is pure genius. For real though, the voice of this character makes my skin crawl and the encounter at the end of the first game was terrifying.

One of if not the best VR stealth game

I have never been more disappointed by a game as much as I was by this abomination. It was buggy as hell, and the level design was so terrible it hurts. Robert alone is enough for me to quit this stupid game.

I purchased the original for Playstation VR, and was more than happy to buy the sequel for PC VR now that I have an HP Reverb G2 and a good enough video card to operate it. I was actually tempted to buy both of them in the bundle for PC, especially on sale for less than half of one of the games alone, however I am somewhat ironically on a budget now.

I have not completed the sequel yet, however it feels on par with the original, if not better because there is less blatant stealth involved. Taking down the robotic supervisors can be finicky since your usually just throwing knives at the robots, and gauging the angle and throw force in VR doesn't always work well, at least on PSVR and Reverb G2 controllers. Mission Insolvency tried to resolve that a bit and give you opportunity with long distance take-downs using something you find a bit into the game, but understanding how to aim it so far eludes me. I usually wind up luring them into a narrow turn and throw the ammo at them from a foot away, since it's too much of a chore to use it even for close range attacks.

All movement seems to be done via teleportation, and I think whatever room you have to physically move in real life, but in my cramped room things are working pretty well. There is no way that I have found to simply walk around, especially when you need to inch forward just enough to open a door, and teleporting can be a touch slower than other games because you get a preview of your landing space and wait on a ball to land from the teleport gun. Sometimes the ball lands where your character cant physically fit and you see a green grid error. In the case of traveling through ceiling panels, you have to physically crouch under this grid zone before you can complete the teleport, which is painful for me and a bit annoying to figure out in the first place. Would be nice if there was a crouch button to use instead.

Word of warning, you might not want to eat all the food in sight until a second playthrough.

this is the only game on steam i have ever left a negative review for
i will update this if it ever changes

budget cuts 2 feels like dlc the bow removes all stealth and "skill" from the game making it more like the 99,984,294 other vr shooters. the story is beyond bland with a cheezy ending and two boss fights that is the equivalent of banging your head against a wall for 2 hours. the first one makes zero sense and i only found out how to beat it by touching every object i saw and it somehow worked. it gives no indication thats what your supposed to do and it makes no intuitive sense. the second one is supposed to be some kind of wave fight but it just ends with hourds of enemies camping where you beat the game. i only beat it by running around the arena and beating the game before they could camp it. if you want gameplay budget cuts 1 has you covered. if you want fun bow gameplay go buy apex construct it has gameplay originally built for bow combat and not crammed into a stealth game. and if you want story budget cuts 1 has you covered again there is one plot twist that effects nothing in budget cuts 2 and the story is basically told to you the minute you get off the train.

budget cuts 1 was delayed to make it perfect
budget cuts 2 was rushed to ride hype and it shows

Don't put a mandatory action sequence in your stealth game. Especially when the best way to survive is to use the shoddily tested smooth locomotion system so you can actually move and shoot at the same time, that also gets you stuck on any rough geometry. That shit was ass.

I feel the same way about this game as I do the first, The game is good but not worth $30

If it's on sale for less than $10 then I'd say go for it but otherwise, the game is too short to warrant it's full price tag
