During matches, camera angles are terrible (yes, the three of them) and the way shots are handled is also quite a weak design decision.
Off the pitch, the english subtitles are poor quality. Calling a goal a point is a good example of the overall level.
You're better off watching the series or playing one of the indie soccer games available on Steam.

This game should not be verified! Stucks on anticheat screen! However found a workaround on reddit amd it works fine after but not sure if going into editing file names is verified

this game is very hard. even my cousin who play fifa on the reg have a hard time. im sure there are those who can figure it out but be careful if you trying it out on time becuae we only get an hour to return. iv tried 9 plus time to get pass level one it feels like it gets easier but then it kinda destroys you after like why

So when i was younger i used to play a game called Tecmo Cup for (NES) after looking into it i found out it was based off of a anime. Which brought me to this game. Loved the whole gaining skills and Experience aspect. Its a good game for people who like stat building in sports games.

As someone who is only playing singleplayer, I'm really enjoying myself. Very stylized and fun! It does require a workaound to work on Steamdeck, though.

If you're looking for a review on this game you've come to the wrong place, but if you're looking for an outstanding pie recipe you've come to the right place.

Ingredients:

1. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2. 1/2 cup white sugar
3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
4. 1/4 cup water
5. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
6. 1 pinch salt
7. 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
8. 1 pastry for double-crust pie

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
2. Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside.
3. Roll out half the pastry to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate; pour in apple slices.
4. Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 (1-inch) wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel. Weave the pastry strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal.
5. Pour butter-sugar mixture over top of pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top crust is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

have to write something to leave a review so yea. Some people said if you like fifa and anime to get this and im ngl if you actually enjoy fifa career DO NOT get this game, it has no similarities to fifa whatsoever. while yea
the cinematic are nice and story is very good the game feels very clunky to me/random and sometimes even scripted. This is the second time i gave this game a try and still disliked it, I love anime and grew up playing football so a football game with epic anime shots would be amazing like imazuma XI but not this. feels more like a story game than a football game well maybe bc it is. If you want a story get this if you want a football game get fifa 11.

Its not a football game.... Its Captain Tsubasa!!!
When you can easily score from the middle of the court with Drive Shot!
Its fun, addictive and very nostalgic.
But too much loading, too many unnecessary dialog that mess the game pacing and bamco should makes the rising story arc include in the game, not separate dlc.

Never heard of it, but looked like a cool game with that anime art style. So I picked it up. I kinda expected a lackluster port at best, because it's Bandai (life pro tip, if you see a fringe anime game, it's probably a Bandai Port, and if it is, it's likely to be very flawed). Booted it via remote play from my steam deck (to not install it on my steam deck to save space) and the game won't accept control inputs (Xinput commands) from remote play via steam input. Now I could probably just edit those controls to key presses to work, but I didn't. Why? Because upon tinkering with it, I found that if you select to change an input in the joystick mapper in game, the game will only respond to a joystick input. There's no way to close it, there is no timeout timer. You are left to only plug in a controller and press a button to assign it, or close the game with alt tab. This is flat out poor design. I refuse to go any further. Maybe one day I'll pick this game up, but for now, I've lost any interest I've had to play it. I can't recommend you buy it, as someone who buys everything, and will usually find a positive even with bad ports, I am saying, flat out DON'T BUY THIS GAME. If you like anime, there are plenty of hentai games or something on Steam. If you like soccer, play Fifa. If you think you want this Anime Soccer game, you don't. I could jump through hoops to fix the game and make it playable for me. But why? It was on sale and an interesting looking game. I've lost that intrigue. This is why ports need to be better. Because you loose potential customers that will expand your brand. People who pass by and say "hey, the marketing on this looks neat" will leave if the game is inconvenient to play. That is what has happened here. Again, do NOT buy this game.

The Mighty Mallard
The Mighty Mallard

Fun little arcade-style soccer game (which is then made even more "arcade" with the Freestyle mode). AI leaves a lot to be desired, but the commitment to the anime's style is fantastic. Storyline arcs are good too, but New Hero's storyline overstays its welcome. The tournament needs more matches overall, and hopefully you get more opportunities to level up your custom character. Still, it's a fun game if you're into this kind of thing.

After reading the comments, I wasn't sure to get this game. The game is excellent. The controller they mentioned is not there and works seamlessly well between keyboard changing or controller automatically.

Game mechanics are hard to learn and master, but it's great. The story and how you can make your character and attend to the youth team are perfect. The game is more like watching the movie than playing it simultaneously.

I didn't like the shop system; the main menu was slow and sloppy.

Overall is a must-have game if you like Tsubasa.

Don't buy if you have never read/watched the comic/anime
Don't buy if you are not a fan of Captain Tsubasa
Don't buy if it's not on sale, it's not worth it
Don't buy if you plan to play online muti-player, it's totally broken
While single player is still playable, there are lots of bugs. Game is like still in it's beta testing.
In my opinion, I think is unfair for a company to sell something like this.
If you still want to buy it, pay attention on your game time/purchase date, I believe steam's refund policy is within 2 hours of game play and 2 weeks from purchase date.

This game has a lot potential. I like the idea of online matchmaking. They might improve it better.

It is not easy to be a pro. But when you start play good it is become very cool.

The only thing that botters me is game is so fast it is sometimes feels like weird but to be able to play this online with many good effect i guess it is a necessary thing.

[NOTE: for all you busy lads and lass' out there with a life and stuff -> scroll to the end for a summary]

Let it be known to all that I am as biased as one can be. I grew up with the sport football and naturally watched Captain Tsubasa anime since I was able to look at the TV.
Furthermore, I always dreamed of being in the same team as Tusbasa and always wanted an own football team in that universe.
Let me continue with the fact that this game heavily delivers to ALL you fans. I will get as to why in a bit.
Secondly, I shall be comparing this game with another game i like quite a lot: FIFA 08 for the DS. Because both games share a whole lot of similarities and both games are equally fun in SOLO mode as with FRIENDS.

Now, I have been reading on other reviews and I would like to warn all who are friendless (or have anime-allergic friends) that this game is a bit OFF-PUTTING in online mode. Here is why: any game that benefits the lagger more than the skilled player, is a bad multiplayer gaming experience. This applies to this game as well. Tho, I haven't tried the online feature yet, due to the fact that I simply COULD NOT be asked to. I never cared for multiplayer in FIFA games and same goes to this one. For the aforementioned reason. Yet, the rule of thumb still applies: if lag benefits the player more than skill, then you might as well not bother with the online experience and play it with your friends on steam (less lag). Worked for FIFA 08 DS and it works with this game.

So, with the multiplayer out of the way let's get into the real MEAT and POTATOES of this game: the single player. Truth be told, it is just the TOPS. There are some little niggles, but then again where is there a game where there aren't any? So, in short here are some bullet points:
-Story: 2 modes -> Fanservice (non-ecchi kind) and the main story of Tsubasa.
-Customization is the anime version as with FIFA 08 DS: own team creation; logo; jerseys; own character creation, but with more shirts styles and glasses (for some weird reason).

About that HERO mode, because it is where this game truly shines. It is the all 10 school extravaganza story line with your very own character to cream yourself about. If you loved the anime, then this gamemode has its red dot sighted scope aimed right at your Thalamus (brain for all my younger peers). Because it allows you to view each school's struggles and character development in the football fields as well as in the outside life (a bit). HOWEVER, it is needless to say that after 10 runs it might get a bit samey, but nonetheless this is where the game truly shines and where most of the budget has gone into. And it shows!

Now, another good thing about this game is the stat system. In HERO mode, you create and level your own character which then becomes playable OUTSIDE the story line. Which is a bit of a time sink, BUT here is where they nail it: YOUR skills determine YOUR future costum team! So, in other football games you would normally just slap a bunch of 99+ stats on all the bloody skills and call it a day. Become the most OP footballer in the world. But here is the true question: WHERE IS THE BLOODY POINT OR FUN IN THAT? In those games, you would get bored after your Saitama-like power play. THIS GAME - however - allows you to grow each time in a different area and to generate 11 (max 20) playable pawns for your team (or any team if you just switch them beforehand) you desire!

This is good due to the variety of gamestyles you can pick, which is a BREATH OF FRESH air compared to most (repetitive) FIFA games. Whereas in those games you would just slap a 99+ stat on speed and you would be settled, this game requires you to be more strategical about your point distribution in your stats. This can be overwhelming, but do not worry there are plenty of guides online.

For the last part come the last few niggles and info bits:
1-The stamina based gameplay is the tops, but there is no use for switching out players unlike in other football games. Plus, there are no Yellow or Red cards.

2- AI being a load of nonsense in this game

[1]:
The stamina or "spirit" - very clever - depletes but restores during the matches. So, once you have your 11 ALL-STARS on the field and remembering that there are no yellow or red cards, which means you can kick somebody in the toochy for that ball to be yours and the referee will think it is legit... What is the bloody point? They might as well dress up with a cheerleading tutu skirt and some bloody POM POMS for all the help they are for the team :I.
This and the fact that the referee only gives penalties for off-side is a bit of what I like to call a "culture-shock". Since it goes against all my football knowledge of the real world. BUT, this does mean more action in the field, which is a bonus. Plus, you can name your character into somebody you dislike and kick him in his toochy for the ball and laugh at him (in call or on the couch) if that person is sitting next to you.
"10/10; would kick in the toochy again" - Santa 2021.

[2]:
The AI is a load of nonsense. It has 2 modes: busting my bladder hard mode or "don't know how to hold a controller"- mode.
The first one is anything above the 2* rating of difficulty. The AI just KNOWS when you press to dribble/tackle button and will instantly counter that with the respective move. So, you might as well just sprint away and dodge; pass the ball a couple of times. Because it is just far easier to avoid the AI taking the ball away from you after you have had it for 0.02 seconds. And the AI cheats by taking over multiple oppenents and having them coming towards you. Very much like the anime, yes. But I am trying to score and this is my third attempt at this match and I would just like to not be part of your S&M club, thank you very much.
Speaking of S&M group meet-ups outside of quarantine, these also can happen to your own team members. Maybe they just forgot to wish each other good luck and are doing that group YELL thingy, but not during my third-attempt-at-this-rubbish-matches, okey game?

ALL-IN-ALL:
-Buy this game during the sales (summer is best for your free time). It is absolutely worth 25€. The story hooks you in like a powerbait on a fishing hook. You git gut along the story and you get to know the less known struggles of the side characters of the anime.

-Multiplayer: do not bother, unless it is with your friends on the couch or via steam remoteplay.

-Singleplayer: plays like a fighting game but in the football world. Timing; football strats and stat point placement are the key to win this game. Not like most FIFA games where you just pick the "Ultimate XI" or that years most BS team and get the easiest games of your life. Nah, this game is more fair than other football games.
This game has 2 story modes and your usual football game "mini-games".

-Gameplay: again, plays like a action packed football match. With only off-sides as an offence and the referee barely plays a role in this match. Coming to think of it, I haven't seen one at all, so maybe that is why these teenagers are allowed to kick each other in the toochy for that lovely round football.
Stamina/spirit matters only during the match (you can see it as action points for all your moves) and not during half-time break. No reason to switch unless you have evenly good players with different movesets. If that is the case, then it is a good reason. Otherwise do not bother.
Timing, strats and stats are the surname of this game for anybody that bothers "Gitting Gut" at this.

Thank you for those who have read it all :)
Have fun and take care!

This game has an amazing size story. The challenges in single player alone kept me entertained. I never watched the anime before but i really do enjoy soccer so this super goal kicks and passed with crossovers feel really good when you do them. I havent done the online play but i did the offline stuff for 15 hours and its amazing! Definetly get it if its on sale you wont regret it

I just finished the game so is not that bad a game, but is very hard to recommend. My favorite Tsubasa game is the old
The problem is that is not a very good Football game, it controls very clunky in general and there is not a lot of control.
That could be forgiven if it was a good Tsubasa game, but even random keepers will stop a drive shot from the penalty spot and have energy left to stop a second one. I wish it was more like the old one where you had to work more in order to power up a shot but once you get there it was unstoppable. That would make it feel more like the TV show.
The leveling system seems to have potential but it doesn't give you enough time to level up so your character gets relegated to a secondary role. That kinda makes sense but it feels bad since is supposed to represent you.
In conclusion I don't think is worth getting unless you are a super fan of Tsubasa itching for something new.

Ascalor

I went into the Game with a clear state of mind - this is not a football game, it is a beat em up. The Gameplay is fairly easy and it is a even fun at times.

Sadly the game is cleary only designed around the online multiplayer in mind which is kind of sad for someone not intending to play it.

The Story mode of the Game is a complete Joke. The difficulty is not a smoth curve - every game pre international is a complete joke and starting with the international the enemy Forwards escalate where the only consistent way to win is not letting them shoot.

The biggest Problem I have with the Story Mode is the fact that it ruins the Characters from the Manga/Anime. To make the game feel challenging, they are using drastically lowered stats for your goal keeper, while keeping the actual stats for the enemy goalie - which basically means that Wakabayashi - the SGGK that never lets anything but Schneiders Fire Shot past him if shot from outside the Penalty Area gets his ass whopped by any super shot fired from his side off the field. I have played the Story for about 10h (skipping most dialoges after the first playtrough to have more gameplay time) and I have yet to see him catch any serious shot even from the middle of the field.

Characters like Hyuga on the otherhand manage to fail to score a goal sometimes even from inside the Penalty Area even with a fully charged Neo Tiger Shot. At somepoint I just wish the Shots where rarer or harder to do but just feel more .... meaningful?

So, here a quick TL:DR:

Is the Game fun? Yes
Should you buy it? Sure
Is Multiplayer Versus fun? Hell yes!
Is it true to the Lore of the Manga? Fuck no... 0/10, would not reccomand to any fans of the series - great for over the top Football action though

The PVP is terrible, but the single player mode is so enjoyable that I can defintly reccomend it.

First the bad...
In my particular situation I haven't been able to enjoy multiplayer for several reasons. The waiting times are ridiculous, and when an opponent appears, the match is unplayable. The match ends up being very laggy and straight up no fun. I don't play online multiplayer anymore.

Now the good...
If you're a fan of Captain Tsubasa, this game is for you. It covers the Middle School arc, and adds an original story where you create your player. The new hero mode is a delight to play. With several schools you can play with, you can play again... and again... and again.
The game also includes a friendship mechanism in which you can get to talk with other characters in the story, for later on to learn their moves.
After finishing the new hero mode for the first time you get 2 more endings.
Local multiplayer works perfectly.

The game mechanics are very simple and meant to be for an action game. Don't expect something like playing FIFA or PES.

The game is not perfect, but also is quite enjoyable.
If it's still your cup of tea, buy it... when it gets on sale.

Pretty underrated game with many negative review that are just stupid. Most of them complain about how the story goes but none of them ever watched the Anime, let alone AN Anime of their entire lives. And yes, from all those negative review only a few issues are ACTUALLY in the game, like extremely stupid AI that turn in circle but I have found out how to "manage" them. Which clearly seem not their case, but also the controls sometimes don't respond when you are supposed to control a character and make him act like an AI or just go strait without stopping. Defense controls seem to have some issues too, like tackle not always working when its almost always working for your opponent and I even had rare case of doing a sliding tackle only to see the character I control spinning around the AI with the ball without even touching him. But that happened to me at most 5 times in over 50 hours of game play and 3 playthrough of the New Hero Campaign. Lastly failing a dribble dodge an AI opponent because they stop and walk backward just to tackle you at the end of the dribble animation. So, all-in-all this game is clearly amazing and could be even better if the AI worked better and the control for tackle/dribble had a small rework.

I have a lot of fun playing this game.
The New hero mode is addicting, when you start to play it, you want to repeat it again and again. I recommend Musashi route for beginnerdwith forward position and then you can have also another teams to check and story to read.
The game is not easy but when you mastered it, it is nice to steer your favourite characters from Anime.
I think online mode should be revamped but instead of this single game should be enoguh.
The graphic is nice, the story is interesting. This game is nice to have.
I played a lot and I will still play, there is still some new events to participate so the game is quite alive.

This game sucks. It's not much of a football game and more like an interactive anime. Not to mention I couldn't even get it refunded after spending about most of the first 2 hours of gameplay in just text commentary. The game subsequently doesn't exit properly from Steam and keeps clocking hours eventhough I've stopped playing and closed the game. I would advise watching the anime if you are interested in the story of Captain Tsubasa.

Right, I'm editing this review because I've realised I can't recommend this game. It's so on the cusp of being fun that I never put it down but I wish I'd never played it. I only ever play the New Hero Episode so I can't speak for multiplayer.

As my tolerance for this game's bullshit runs out, I find myself getting tired. Tired of the opponent's players always standing just out of reach of my dribble moves. Tired of trying to pass to a striker and the ball somehow ending up at a defender's feet. Tired of the luck mechanic that doesn't give me the cards I want. Tired of losing the ball and then having to watch as the CPU runs through my entire team with its star player and scores on what is supposed to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I mean they really do my man Wakabayashi dirty.

Anyway, I feel like this game is hard because it's unfair, not hard because it's designed well enough to be challenging.

For what it's worth, I'm probably not gonna stop playing it. All I've left to say is: run while you can.

I wish I could give this game the recommendation it deserves. However this game crashes more than a teenager hopped up on Baja Blast in a stolen supercar whilst checking their snapchat every 30 seconds. I've tried all the online fixes, admin mode, doing separate choices, deleting New Hero files to start another, all the video settings, I took the game out to an upscale restaurant and it crashed on me there, and I've installed old codecs , new codecs, and codecs that take me back to winamp. (Recently just built my computer 1080 Ti sc2, asus rog strix z5290, i9 processor.) The crashes happen every time a video goes to play (i.e. Start of a new hero school intro, then during All star intro video, and always crashes on credit video). The game is super fun so for me this is very disappointing for me to have to write a non-recommendation.

Being a veteran player of Captain Tsubasa III, IV and V on SNES... and also briefly the PSOne version... I am really happy to see it on PC... while I recommend this game for fans of the anime or the old games.. but it is quite different from the SNES version those are more strategic.. while this PC version is very much action packed... and you had to choose your moves and skills.. for your custom player you are building up in the main campaign.. each run through of the campaign to finalize a custom player. So it comes with 20 slots of custom player... after which you can buy from the game premium currency to add up to 10 more slots.. or you just simply overwrite existing custom player... while the offline gameplay is awesome.. but the online lag and weird bugs and issues.. are glaringly bad.. so you are warned.

Completely terrible. Not even worth it on a sale. The forced tutorial alone was driving me mad even though there was an option to omit it by pressing R3. No matter how much I pressed it, it would not work. For some reason there is a "connecting to network" black screen every time you load into anything. That could be from going into the options menu, to editing a player, to an online match and even to a local match. There is no reason for this to happen. It would have been nice to hear this game in any other language but it only has Japanese and you won't understand anything. Good luck trying to figure out what the match narrator is saying......

This is a bit of a very soft recommendation because this game ultimately disappointed me. The core gameplay is fun, the style is exactly what you'd expect and hope for, and it generally delivers what it promised. Almost.

I expected a fast-paced, action-focused football/soccer game that captured the essence of the Captain Tsubasa show/manga (which, while it never was a huge part of my childhood, I remember fondly) and had some story to it.

I kinda got that, but I also got a hundred loot drops I had to click through when opening the game, being forced into the multiplayer menu before the game even told me there were single player modes (of course, I knew they were there, I was just momentarily confused) and a game that, while not a mobile game, seems to occasionally glance in the direction of mobile titles and contort its eyebrows really hard trying to get you to look over there.

So yeah, the core game does deliver, and it's a refreshingly different experience from FIFA (more akin to old International Superstar Soccer on the N64), but the fact that it's pushing its multiplayer component way too desperately rubs me the wrong way - especially given the other reviews here that point at that function being utterly broken anyway.

Been a fan of the manga and video games (NES, SNES versions).

So I was excited when this came out. The gameplay is a bit too biased on RNG and the rock-scissors-paper mechanics. It would work well as an alternative football game (vs FIFA / PES) but this doesn't work for Captain Tsubasa IMO. Tsubasa is supposed to be nearly impossible to dispossess and his passing is near perfect. I thought the RNG/RSP mechanics should be shelved during story mode to match the same level of invincibility Tsubasa had as a manga protaganist.

Apart from that, the rest of the game felt neither here nor there. Its not a SRPG like the NES/SNES version, nor is it a nice realistic match up against FIFA/PES.

Even as a fan of the franchise this felt like a miss to me. I am encouraged by the attempt though, and I hope the next try will be on mark!

Hard to recommend this to someone who didn't grow up playing the NES / SNES games or watched the anime. If you did then you'll definitely enjoy the single player experience.

This game is very exciting because it has a lot of abilities and ball game techniques according to the animated series.

Bought on 75% discount, for me I will say it is around 75/ 100 for me, not that worst as it looks.
Worth if buy at discounted price but not original price.

Good to knows for new player:
1. Must go through practice first
2. Although there is in-apps-purchase. but you actually no need it.
3. First Story Mode (TSUBASA) is like practice. The second scenario(Self-created character) will be the main story.
4. To score, use power shoot few times until keeper stamina down (I think it is kind like "match flow" system, you will not score or being scored suddenly by 1 mistake. need to possess the flow of the match)

Mechanics work as instructed 75% of the time at best at high difficulties. Multiplayer is busted. It's a really fun idea but i don't want to be sitting on the same game in the story because the controls don't work the way tutorials explain them.

Single Player is great with a good introduction arc (Middle School Teams) and then it expands to Junior Youth (International teams) for your custom characters. Teams and characters are not behind any paywall but if you want to befriend them to learn their skills for your custom character, then you have to collect and level up their 'card'. Multiplayer is a mixed bag, I usually have to wait a while to find a game and if I can't find another human player, then the game will just assign a computer to play against for online matches (you still earn points and experience though).

Crappy additional EULA you have to agree to before playing offline. This is different than what is listed on store page and is in addition. When will video game companies learn we don't want to be spied on to use a game we have to pay for. If it were free to play/use like Google then alright....maybe but you greedy devs want all the free marketing data and full price for a game.

this is so cool game idk why so many give negative review i didn't saw too much bug in online like they say. only problem is ping if your connection is not good 80% will lose so better quit and face new opponent otherwise there will be massive lag maybe thats why people call bug. but its not bug

there is only some problems thats is not cool 1- menu makes gpu so much hot while in match gpu temp is ok 2-why GK always catching ball in animations even when cant save the ball still catching ball . game needs more animations and skills and other version for example matsuyama some characters are too weak . if you will not add new things atleast must reduce price to revive game

Story mode is easy peasy and can be completed on a short time. But be ready, online match making is not possible currently in EU (or other) region. Because there is no player can be found online. What a shame! Whereas the game itself has too much potential in terms of online competitive playing of which developer doesn't care for a long time. This totally turns the game to a useless garbage.

4 hours in, my impressions so far (never watched the anime):

Very fun to play, and fun to watch. Some soccer rules don't apply here, like fouls, yellow/red cards etc. I'm still bad to mediocre, played only the "Tsubasa Story", which the game recommends for new players.

Haven't tried online but from the little that I read it's full of bots (legal bots as the game throws AI opponents if matchmaking takes too long), meaning that playing online is the same as playing versus, except you get "captain points", you have dailies or whatever. I might check it when the time comes.

I also found out that you unlock movies that tl;dr major plot points. I don't have the time to watch hundreds of episode of "oldschool-paced" anime so I enjoy the tidbits.

I wish the developers cared more about balancing, making the game more popular. Instead they added a separate online "freestyle mode" which sounds like "soccer with item drops". It may be fun, but I'm still learning the ropes in the base game.

tl;dr fun flashy arcade soccer game with anime aesthetic, good buy if it's deeply discounted since online is dead (I really wish it wasn't cause it's fun).

Edit: About FreeStyle Mode: WHY? Like, what was the motivation behind all this? Shoddy looking item effects, tutorials that are mostly a repeat of the same tutorials we already had. But the worst of all is splitting the already suffering online matchmaking into two different queues.
