I would never play this game if it wasn't for VR. I am also not a "gotta get all the stars on the level" kinda guy, but with this game I HAVE TO! Such a cool concept and impementation. Great job devs! I can't wait for the "Comming Soon" section. If you got a Vive, then this should be in your library.

This game is really fun, so I am noting it positively, but it has several issues that should be taken care of
- It's slow. I have an i7 and a decent 1070, most if not all VR games run smoothly on my configuration EXCEPT this one. I don't understand this. I have to close all my other apps before running this game, and even then, there are many FPS issues, which make me nauseous.
- The difficulty is somewhat badly balanced, or maybe the game should have an onboarding to help the player figure out the specificities of each tower. This can be frustrating.

I fail to see how this game could ever get a negative review. If you like tower defense games, there's no way you won't like this! The game feels very fluid and smooth. The controls are amazingly simple, and the game is addicting! I like how you can set the table to your perferred height, and you can even teleport and walk through the table to help make things easier. What a great experience and some of the most fun i've had yet in VR! One of the hidden gems that needs to be in everybody's library.

One of the few VR games that you can spend more than a cuple minutes on. Challenging and entertaining. Feels like complete game at this stage.

This is a sweet game, I love tower defense games. You might want to add how much damage each tower does when you are going it buy it, also maybe how much speed it has too. Also maybe a different colored circle indicating what the upgraded range of the tower will increase to, like a green circle maybe. so you would have two circles, the current towers range, and the upgradable range. This would also work if you incorporate more upgrades if you choose. I'm only a few levels in, but I'm glad that this exists.

This game is great! My wife, whom "doesn't like tower defense" games, loves it too! I actually got it for her and then got her to play it for five minutes... she was hooked after two. I actually enjoy tower defense games, and this is great for me as well.

Without going into an in-depth review, I would say if you like tower defense and are looking for something different to play in VR... get it. Also, if you don't like tower defense and are looking for something different to play in VR... get it! Either way, you're going to have a good time. Totally worth it. Not to mention, it's early access so I'm sure it'll be even better with time. Hat's off to the devs!

Absolutly fantastic game. I never enjoyed these types of games on mobiles or PC's etc but this is so much fun! I have 3 stars in all Levels except 1 (the last desert level) and I cannot wait for the next release - I hope there is 1. This is a must have for the HTC Vive

If you've enjoyed tower defense games before, definitely get this one! The game's just a ton of fun, the gameboard concept works extremely well with roomscale VR, and after a few levels I found myself madly reaching here and there, turning this way and that to control all the gameplay aspects with both arms going crazy at once haha

There's lots going on to multi-task with: between towers, upgrades, hero positioning, spells and castle ramparts... and a couple map surprises I couldn't get enough of

Castle Must Be Mine is such a wonderful game and such a peaceful one, you are in a room with a table of what looks to be a castle and a mine shaft then skull pops above the shaft you click than OGRES, send your knight to defend the glory of your kingdom then build towers to help the knight. Such a good game. bye im going to play some of it now.

Great tower defense game. It really seems more chaotic when you're at a tabletop controlling it all but it looks so much better. If you like tower defense games you'll love this, I haven't finished it yet but I've enjoyed it so much I felt like I needed to write a review so others would try it. I can't wait to get home from work to play it again.

edit:
Finished the game tonight and I'm sad because I want more levels! The game never lost its fun for me and I cant wait for an update to get more levels!

Simply can't get enough of this game. Adding VR to a tower defense game just works so well, and while the major difference between this and a top-down TD game is "reach and click" versus "point and click", it's just so much more engaging. There's a good variety of enemies, though I wish for better specialization of towers. The upgrade paths are linear and a bit boring in that respect. I find myself coming back to this game every time I put on the Vive.

Really solid, classic tower defense gameplay but on a table in VR. No catches, no weird gimmicks, just everything you'd expect. And the devs have been pretty consistent with patches that just don't fix bugs but also add content. What more could you want?

Unfortunately this game does not work with the Vive Pro controllers for some reason. Not sure if this is a result of SteamVR updates or some other issue.

It appears the game is no longer supported and updated, and consequently not playable any more. Shame, because this was a hugely enjoyable game when it worked.

The thing about this game that irritates me is that it addicted me to play it to death, and now having 3 star scores on every map, I have nothing to fill the void until more levels come out.

Serious VR Crack! I can't wait for more content, not that it lacks a proper amount, it's just that I freaking LOVE this game and want it to keep growing and growing. Climbey, Racket NX and this are my top 3 VR favorites.

I love tower defense games and this is by far in the top 5 of best TD games ive ever played, let alone the fact that its in VR!

I love the environments and how they work on the table board! Using powers feels great(especially the tornado) and I love the castle mechanic that allows me to get onto the field myself(if only from my castle)!

The game is pretty hard which makes it so rewarding when I earn those three stars!

I do wish there was one or two more Heroes(maybe a ranged or assassin type) but thats the only thing I could ask for!

--ranXerox--
--ranXerox--

I cannot believe such a simple game has given me sooo many hours of enjoyment!

10/10...would through spiked traps at the trolls from the top of the castle again!

when the game came out, it had a map. now? It has a map with multiple sections. The creator adds more content and I have been following it closely. I have all stars in each section and this is what keeps me going. Getting all stars and making sure those nasties don't take my castle!

Very nice tower defence game in VR.
The idea of a VR tower defence game sounds a little strange yet after giving it a go, I'm a big fan of the idea, the game presents you with a table which you play from. You can build different towers and upgrade them to combat a variety of monsters. Alongside this you have a hero character which you can move around depending on where he is needed.

The game also allows you to participate in the defence from a combat perspective instead of solely building towers. The game gives you abilities like throwing a fireball onto the table to cause AOE damage to the monsters, you also unlock other abilities as you progress through the game like being able to throw boulders from the top of the gate.

The game is a truly immersive tower defence VR that is fairly challenging, having to repeat several levels to complete them.

Balgore

Really solid tower defense game.
3 tower types, upgradeable.
Many monster types.
Unique and different maps.
Cool abilities and castle defense abilities to use which take advantage of VR.
Really nice polished graphics for VR.
The right amount of challenging.
Tutorials.
Health Bars.

Cons:
Only 3 tower types.
Castle defense abilities take time to use and can be costly if you aren't fast.
Nothing carries over after each round (options to upgrade towers or the hero would be really nice, even if they are passive buffs).

Played on Oculus Rift

TL;DR - Nice idea, hard-working and communicative Dev -

PRO:
....tower defense - does what it says on the box!
....a hero to be positioned and levelled up
.... cute chunky graphics
...tossing fireballs at enemies

CON:
- unintuitive controls.... for the life of me I couldn't work out how to upgrade towers, I just kept destroying them??!. teleport is done using the button instead of control stick
- I feel like "instantly repositioning" the hero is cheating a bit??

Overall, compared to other VR tower defense games, the hero is the most novel addition ... but if you're after a slightly different take on a towerr defence game, it's probably worth a look

Spectacular game. Truly. I got the HTC Vive a while back and have been mostly disappointed at the dearth of games out there for the platform that aren't horror (I'm a big ol' scaredypants!). This game, however, is easy to pick up and play, but incredibly challenging in the best ways. The graphics are exactly as good as they need to be, and the gameplay is exceedingly satisfying.

It says a lot for a game of this few levels that I've come back over and over again to play the same maps to get my 3 stars. I think it says more for the game that, despite the number of hours I've played, I still haven't gotten all of them - and I'll keep trying. :) Definitely worth the price of admission.

I have just started playing like 6 minutes ago. And i know the description says ''kingdom rush-like game'', but come on did you have to make 90% of the game with the sound effects from Kingdom rush? It starts to sicken me already as i am playing something else. I will be writing this as i play the first levels. Having done the first 4 levels i can say that its a bad version of Kingdom rush. I also see that tower upgrades take a while, you have to spend your money wisely and know where to put towers and when to use your boulders.

Innovative tower defense game, it takes advantage from the VR environment with simple but effective graphics. (Played on HTC Vive VR)

Lynx

This is a really well executed tower defense game for VR. It's similar to games like Kingdom Rush where the build locations are static and you can select one of 3 types of tower to build, with different properties.

You might be thinking, "it doesn't seem like there's any reason to have tower defense in VR," but you can really get into the action of the game. Part of what helps is that you're not just staring at the board the whole time, you can use powers like literally throwing fireballs, moving a warrior anywhere on the board, and even taking control of some of the castle's own defenses to help.

This game also has a ton of gameplay for the price, especially if you're trying to 3 star every level. There are about 15 levels, broken up into 3 zones each with their own enemies and defensive powers. If you're a fan of tower defense games, this game guarentees a bang for your buck.

at 39 years old there isn't much that makes me feel like a kid, but this game did it. I positioned the game table at shoulder height and stand right in the middle of the game. feels like I am a kid playing on the floor preteding to blow thigs up. my favorite is the tornado. when I release it I get right up close to it and it makes me smile every time. I loved tower defense games on the phone, but this is a whole new experience. All and all one of the best games I have played in VR. Thanks to the folks that put this one together.

Cymatic

Not just an incredible tower defense game, an incredible VR game.

Heat-of-the-moment tower defense works when there are just enough (or maybe slightly too many) tasks to keep track of, and this title strikes that balance well - with VR in mind. The use of clear audio cues, the act of collecting money, tower layouts/spacing, the micromanagement of the hero, the varied manual defense options on the top of the castle; all of these things make you forget about VR and simply concentrate on managing the virtual table. Suberb!

The only issue I could possibly bring up with this game is the user experience on Oculus. I have both Rift and Vive, and room scale Vive is by far the superior experience. A seated or standing Rift experience requires quite a bit of turning and positioning. The teleport mechanic is clunky in the heat of battle, and the buttons used to turn are the same buttons that sell towers - I have accidentally sold a tower more than once. I know that Rift support is new, I expect it will get better with time.

If I were to make a list right now of the best VR games all time, this one is top 5 for sure.

An incredibly fun game.

It's a fantastic tower defense game with various types of enemy units, several different types of upgradable towers, and hero unit that you can grab and drop where needed. The style and gameplay fits VR very well. It feels like you are playing a tabletop miniatures game or even like a kid playing out some epic battle with their favorite toys.

They have several different areas to play through with multiple levels in each area.

If you are looking for a VR tower defense game; this is it.

The devs also seem to be supporting the game very well with various new areas since I first purchased it, bug fixes, and direct support for the Oculus Rift now too.

This is a fantastic VR game, and a great Tower Defense game!

Today a lot of VR Games are still broderline demos or prototypes of VR Capabilities. Castle Must Be Mine blew me away in that it brought to life all of the great needs of a TD game -- Slowly easing you into a state of confidence before it unleashes overwhelming hordes and multiple paths to your doom. But then there are also other fantastic adds you can only get with VR! Like teleporting yourself atop your castle and raining boulders upon your foes as you phsyically throw them off the edge. Truly an excellent execution.

As for VR - this is hands down one of the best out there. Its not just a preview of what other developers could do if they put their minds to it, this IS what they can do. Graphically, youre not picking up an oscar winning, cut-scene filled 4k masterpeice here... But you dont need any of that. You need great intuitive VR controls, fun gameplay mechanics and a pace that keeps you on your toes, smiling the whole time.

This game nailed that for me. If you're buying VR games, this need to be in your quivver.

As I am a die-hard tower defense fan, my review is unavoidably biased. Castle Must Be Mine would have been a back-to-basic, solid tower defense game even if it were not in VR, and a screaming laughing good time when it is.

I really am over Tower Defense games, but I was looking for a "light" game to fill in time when I didn't feel like playing heavy, long lasting, games.

... Boy was I wrong!

This is light at first, but ramps up difficulty to an insane level by the end.. and I like that! It's a challenge and a very fun one. The use of vive controllers is great for moving your guy to help defend, and jumping on top of the castle is a blast. It felt kind of like a board game come to life than your typical tower defense game.

my complaint is that there isn't much strategy in how you lay and upgrade your towers. It's pretty straightforward what the best technique is there. It's more how you use your freeze ball thingy and your guy who defends than how you do your towers.

My Review For Castle Must Be Mine

Positives

    • Very Well Polished
    • Plenty Of Different Enemies
    • A Few *Bosses ( I will call them ) along with other real hard enemies to keep you on your feet.
    • Along with building towers you get to throw a Fireball/Iceball/Tornado to help your defense.
    • Along with my last bullet point, you can go 1st person ontop of your castle and use whatever defense is on it.

Negatives
[list]
• Only 3 types of Towers. -Archer Tower -Mage Tower -Cannon (( Upgradeable though))

Overall
I would give this a 8.5/10 it is a really good game with 3 different areas ( Woodland, Desert, Snow ) I would only like to see more maps in the game or atleast a difficulty setting. The Difficulty does seem to scale pretty well the farther you go though.

An absolute blast! Never would have expected a TD game to be this intense. It's not just build an watch anymore, you're fully engaged with spells and your hero. The levels are polished, well balanced and actually kind of hard. Although there a few towers you have to make you mind up pretty early beaucse there are only a few build slots.

All in all, one of the upper class vr games!

Digital Destrudo

A simplistic but solid TD game. Rather than have a huge array of towers, there's 3. Physical (bow), Magic (...magic), and Splash (cannon.) You have to use your spell and Hero to augment a lane that can't hold, otherwise it's about upgrading the right tower in the right spot.

It looks and runs great. Have only encountered one bug (couldn't teleport) but the dev looked into it the same day and had it fixed within 24-48 hours. (Dev's active on the community hub which is great!)

Definitely worth the cost! Hope to see it supported and expanded on!

Fgured I would jump in and check this out for a few minutes. Two hours later and I am still playing. This is a really fun tower defense game. I would like to see some more/better interactions with the castle weapons. The rock was cool but the cannon fires more on accident than at what I want it to. Burning tar/oil or something like that would be cool, it could slow/damage enemies. Great game so far though!

DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE ON WMR. The majority of the steam games I've played on WMR simply just work. (Dev supported or not). This one however does not. You simply cannot get beyond the second level, the headset bugs out when trying to place a tower and will actually kick you out of the game. I'm not sure why as the game doesnt seem nearly as demanding as the likes of Fallout 4.

It does work well on my Vive but I want a game that will work on all the headsets I own. (WMR is my portable VR headset)

edit...

I was contacted by one of the developers of this game and explained he explained to me their situation of being a very small development house. I get why they do not support WMR (yet). Like i mentioned, I played this in my Rift and Vive and the game is fantastic. Based on how cool the devs are and the fact that it is flawless on my other headsets, I'm am now thumbing up this game.

IF YOU ARE NOT ON WMR (Vive/Oculus) - Simple, buy this game.

While as a TD game its 'perfectly fine'.. Being VR adds absolutely nothing to the table. If any thing it makes it more cumbersome.
I personally love TD games and this is the first (only) one I've played on VR. I enjoy listening to podcasts / watching things on 2nd monitor while playing TD games and being in VR well, you can imagine how that doesnt go together.
I will state again that the game itself is not bad but , its like its 'VR' just for the SAKE of it.
It really doesn't give me any reason to go and play this over , say , Warstone TD.

Only buy if you really, REALLY absolutely HAVE To play every TD game out there.

Exostenza

The game may very well be fun although the issues I experience with my HP WMR set make it unplayable at the moment. The problem is that every time I hover my hand over a spot for a tower or a tower the SteamVR loading screen comes up for a second like it is loading back into the game. This makes it almost impossible to build towers and thus pretty much impossible to play the game. I have a PC with way higher requirements than the game needs with all the latest driver and software updates while all the VR games I have work relatively perfectly which points towards a serious flaw with this game, what that is I don’t know, but I would heavily advise not getting this if you have a WMR set and if you have other hardware you might want to check and see if you'll have the issue as well.

It is too bad because it looks really fun and as of this review it is just completely unplayable for me.

I will periodically come back to this game as it is updated and if the situation changes I will update my review although the last two patches did nothing for the issue.

This is a fun and addictive tower defense game. I give it 3.5/5 stars. Good graphics, good strategy, quite a few maps (always could be more). Endless mode is a nice feature.

Areas for improvement:
1. The last ditch defense elements (throwing traps, rocks) don't seem to work well. They are awkward to deploy and don't seem to have much effect
2. Needs more endless maps
3. Can't seem to interact with the leader board panel properly

Positives:
1. There's more to it than just setting the towers. You have a character you can move around who fights hand to hand. You can use special abilities like fireballs and vortex to damage the units. I like that it's interactive like this.
2. Graphic style is decent
3. Good replay value for a VR game, good value for money

Bottom line - you'll be entertained and probably a bit addicted to this game for a while. I still go back to it from time to time even though I've got 3 stars on all the maps.

Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers

I'm not a big fan of table top Tower Defense games, as I usually prefer first-person TD games that have some depth. However, unlike more popular table-top TD games like Brass Tactics or Skyworld, this is not your grandpa's turn-based strategy TD game. No, this is pure adrenaline, think fast and place your tower defenses and spam those fireballs (strategically of course) and collect those coins! All manner of goblins, orcs, rats(?), and mini-bosses are headed towards your castle and only you can stop them (because we all know your hero ally on the map is not the brightest!)

This game in that sense is similar to Kittypocalypse even though I just couldn't get into Kittypocalypse. I think the difference is that this game has the right pace, difficulty, and smoothness in gameplay. You can teleport around for better view. You can adjust the table's height. Items are easy to grab, create, or upgrade.

If you don't like the first two levels, please stick around. Every level starts adding something more. Once I got into the 3rd level I was like, woah! How does anybody beat this? The graphics aren't the best and the sounds are just okay. But the actual gameplay is fast, fun & furious.

Rate 7/10.

A simple game, but I simply can't stop playing it. Adding the hero to this game was a great idea, since you constantly have to micromanage him to block the waves of incoming enemies. Would definetly recommend. I have played the game for about 5 hours now, but I am almost at the end. I would love it if the creators could throw in some more maps.

Such a great game, I love it. Super fast, easy and fun to play.
I have one suggestion for the developer: can you make an alternative to teleporting? Using the 2 grab keys and you could slide yourself on the map. Should make a great game even better.

This is _really_ well done! Classic tower defence meets VR is a natural. The controls are intuitive, the levels are well designed, and it can be a real challenge! If you're looking for a good VR game where you don't have to have a lot of space this is definitely it.

**** UPDATE ****
If you are an Index owner, or a Vive owner using Index Controllers like me, you would be wise to steer clear of this game as I don't think the developers are going to fix the bugs this game has with the setups I've mentioned. The game plays OK for a few minutes but then every time you interact with a tower location the framerate takes a massive nosedive and it becomes almost unplayable. As you are constantly building and upgrading towers, especially at the higher levels, this game is, for now, unplayable with Index Controllers. I guess it still works OK with Vive wands or an Oculus setup, so I'd still highly recommend it for owners on those systems.

Such as shame it's now no good for Index users. As you can see below, this was one of my favourite VR games. I hope the developer does eventually return to this game as I still feel it has lots of potential customers.

**** ORIGINAL REVIEW ****

** My Pick for this years' 'Game of the Year Award' on Steam **

After nearly 70 hours in the game this is one that I keep coming back to time and time agin for a couple of rounds each seesion. I've completed all of the levels with 3 stars but it's the endless (survival) mode that I most enjoy playing now. I haven't been able to get anywhere near the top of the leaderboard on either of the three maps but I always strive to improve my position.

This is a very neat little tower defense game in the vein of the mobile game 'Kingdom Rush'. You could argue that they have stolen many elements from that title but that doesn't stop this being one great VR game.

Well worth checking out and great value even at full price.

Was pretty good, but gradually gest worse performance wise. Something buggy with this game.
FPS runs at over 90fps, but then as you play it gradually gets to a stage where bringing up the tower option sees fps hit 40fps, then 20fps, then eventually crashes. Once it reloads with tower off it jumps up to 200fps?!? Playable for 5mins, but then after that it becomes more and more unstable.
I have a GTX 1080ti on a 6700K.
Can't recommend liek this

Feels like a prototype for a good TD game. Unfortunately it never became more than that.

Fantastic VR tower defense game!

Positive:
+ nice graphics
+ plenty of levels (there could always be more, but enough)
+ only a few elements but still a lot of variety possible

Negative:
nothing!

+Easy Tower Defense
+Some difficult levels
+Fun level quirks
+Content worth price

-Not enough towers
-Too easy

Wish there were different heroes, it was harder, maybe workshop support, and an endless mode, but overall a decent experience. If you like Turret Defense games, I'd definitely recommend this one.

While the game is fun, the controls are quite poorly done, the only way to move is teleporting, but since you're moving across a table your teleport marker is not visible to you, Its UNDER the table meaning you have no idea where you're moving.

On top of that there just aren't very many maps, unless you have plenty of cash lying around, I'd spend the money on a more fleshed out game, this simply isn't worth more then $5

It hasn't seen any updates in a good year now, so i really wouldn't expect much to change anymore, seems the dev considers this done.

This game would simply be better without VR and belongs on a free flash game website.

While I like the idea of micromanaging heroes and their abilities, the game balance seems designed around using the special abilities like fireball, throwing rocks, cannon, etc. While that is refreshing, some of the abilities like the throwing rocks ability are just too hard to gauge and make it frustrating to use given you have a limited quantity of them. Top this with only 3 towers to choose from, it becomes painfully obvious once the difficulty rises. I enjoyed my experience with this game but I found myself just looking for other Tower Defense games with better mechanics (IMO) like Final Assault ($30) and Battle of Kings VR ($10).

What a great game, can be very difficult at times, but that's what keeps you coming back. Played this on the HTC Vive, the graphics, sound and game play are first class, and the level of detail on the attacking hordes is incredible. Highly recommended

Thumbs down because it plain doesn't work on some platforms. It was fun trying with a friend's rift, but it doesn't work on my Odyssey+ (WMR) and from other comments it also doesn't work with index. Last update was 2018 so probably not going to be fixed at this point, it's a shame.

This is one of the best VR games of all time. In my top 3 favorite VR games I've ever played for sure. Possibly #1, I'm not sure. Have a crack at it!!!

Simple and straight forwards but Surprisingly well done. A great game to enjoy without threat of Motion sickness or the need for much effort.

Like the puzzle and the pacing sadly hate the music it was fun at first but I wish there was a way to cycle music or turn it off all the time.

As others wrote: extreme performance issues on my machine on hover over towers after few minutes - this game is not optimized and given the last update was in 2018, this is not going change anymore. Refunded

Fun castle defense game. Some of the strategy for getting 3 stars is just knowing which towers to place where and when from trial and error. Has about 12 locations and that's it. Wish it had some DLC more maps
