Cute game with cats and quests to achieve. Not yet found all my armour so dying too quickly but hopefully will improve soon.
The game maps are beautifully drawn with cat version names for cities.

The lack of ability to change keybinds means I cannot recommend this game. The artificial difficulty created by being used to use a sub-optimal control scheme makes this experience more frustrating than it needs to be. This combined with achievements requiring you to beat the game five different times makes for an incredibly drawn-out frustrating experience. Skip this one. You're not missing anything.

Repetitive, not as cute as it thinks it is, and so infuriatingly frustrating thanks to an absolutely shit and non-customizable control scheme that it's basically unplayable. I already feel like screaming and throwing things all the time at work; I don't want to feel that way in my down time too.

It's quite a bit simple and gameplay feels too repetitive after the first set of quests but it's really fun and full of funny puns and references and I enjoyed it a lot.

Looking forward to annoy my friend to play the second one in local coop.

Merudgark

Nice little RPG, maybe a bit repetitive, with childish humor (not very funny), very simple writing and well balanced combat and monsters.

The sidekick who does all the speak and points you in every way possible while the protagonist stays silent is really annoying and doesn't help to feel immersed in the world though. Really don't like it.

Overall it's a 7/10.

This game was a random one I found during a search through steam. I highly recommend it. It's short, only took me a little over 4 hours, and some of that was afk, and I did a lot of side quests. This game is funny, has a surprisingly good story, and provided me a great time.

Puntasy Adventure awaits

Purrepare for for the Purrfect Puntasy adventure starring a nameless hero kat and a flying mouse looking kat spirry as they venture Felingard. This Pawsome adventure comes with Meowny Pawetic Punny jokes and stories.

Story

The Main story is fairly short which you can finish in around 3-4 hours of gameplay which feels a bit lacking for a main story line, but the side quests' stories make up for the short main story line which makes the journey better than the destination.

Gameplay

The core gameplay is hit and run. No matter what your playstyle is it all goes back to hitting and dodging. There are magics and melees that you can utilize in combat, so you can either go play as a melee casting magics that can debuff/damage/buff or just play as a cat swinging a stick and dodging. The only way to gain mana in game is to hit enemies which always brings you to a melee gameplay which brings back the core gameplay which is to hit and run.

The lack of the ranged weaponry in the game may or may not add some difficulty to some casual players just looking for a Puntastic adventure. If you do not enjoy the small details in puns under the story this might not be the game for you, since gameplay is mostly errands running around Felingard back and forth which could feel repetitive and boring for some.

If you're looking for a challenge this game also offers turning the game into almost dark souls after completing the game with some of the game modifiers. The game also offers a lot of secrets, some of which you can find hidden in puns from the NPCs all around Felingrad.

Cat Quest is a cute ARPG with a surprisingly good story and decent length that is criminally overlooked. It took me 20 to get through the main story, over three times as long as other reviews claimed. I played almost entirely with a keyboard and mouse, but the game as full controller support. It has good replay value with a New Game+ mode and a mode for replaying the game with a combination of "meow-difiers" for added difficulty, including an option to have a New Game+ modifier so you can play NG+ with added challenges. Definitely give this game a try, on sale it's a no brainer!

I played at 4k60 using Proton 6.3-8 on Arch Linux and Gamescope.

Really cute, fun game on the first play-through. Not the best when it comes to achievements though, if you're into those. The achievements/post-initial play-throughs are total grindfests of various upped difficulties. Those are great for people who enjoy games that present combat challenge, but not great for people who just want to relax and enjoy the feelings of success and satisfaction. I'll get those ridiculous achievements at some point, but it's going to cause me a lot of unwanted stress and discomfort... not my cup of tea at all. But as stated, the first completion was a nice experience with easy mechanics and unique sense of humor throughout. Therefore, thumbs up for that, but only that.

Hope you like cat puns, because that is all this game has going for it. (and they are literally shoved down your throat with nearly every sentence)

Everything else can be called passable at best.

The gameplay is DULL. This game is just a series of simple fetch / kill quests, typically revolving around going into one of many indistinct dungeons. You will fight the same handful of enemies the entire game with no variety. You will use a handful of skills the entire game, most which operate largely the same and can be ignored.

Itemization is boring with little room for real choice as there are only four stats and there are CLEAR winners (strength > magic, defense > health).

The "story" is practically non-existent, and no, the game does not get a pass just because it cheekily makes fun of this early on. After a long series for boring encounters and fetch quest, the game culminates in a story ending that in no way pays off.

I get why people vote this up. It is competently made. It has decent character design and is cute. But is has absolutely no depth. Get this if you're a child or if you are obsessed with cat puns, otherwise pass on it.

Cat Quest has the potential to be a really great game.
When seeing “Overwhelmingly positive” next to a game, I have to admit that my expectations are usually set pretty high.
If anything, this game taught me not to do that.

The graphics in this game are really vibrant and cute. Now I absolutely adore cute charming games (I mean, as much as the next guy). I think they’re great for just switching off my brain for a while and relaxing. I don’t need an overly intricate story, just a nice cute tale about a cat saving his abducted sister. The story, albeit fairly short, shallow and straightforward is not my issue here.

Going into Cat Quest, I thought “nice!” a cute game where I don’t have to mash buttons, slam attack, dodge and keep an eye on my health. A game with a nice storyline with interesting side quests and maybe a nice puzzle and/or mystery here and there. Cat Quest doesn’t deliver on any of this though.

In Cat Quest you gain gold and experience, by slaying monsters and just generally walking around. You have a pretty open world to explore and you’re not forced to follow a linear questline in order to get around to doing things at your own pace. Each village has a message board with a side-questline to follow and explore, or you could just follow along the main quest. The quest system is what made me stop playing this game. It’s just a near endless list of fetch quests like “Go to the other side of the map and battle some monster (that you’ve battled 50X before)” and “oh no! A thief has stolen my ore. Please follow the (literal) dotted line to the other side of the map to battle him and get it back”.

So yeah, if you want some interesting progression, you should probably find something else to play. But at least there’s an interesting combat system, right? … Right??

Nope!

Because in Cat Quest you basically just use the same 4 abilities over and over. You spam the attack button, use your fire spell if the enemy isn’t already burning, dodge in a random direction to avoid the slow, straightforward attack of your enemy, and occasionally heal if you see your health dropping. Then repeat.

The last selling point for me was the equipment customization. Now I love to think about which equipment I think would work well together or what best compliments my playstyle. Not to mention making my character look heroic as hell. Cat Quest has about 20 sets of armors and weapons, which have 4 different parameters. There’s armor, health, damage and magic. That said, I prioritized damage and secondarily magic and didn’t use 90% of the equipment I found. Because: what I had was simply better. There were no set-bonusses, no special abilities, each set of armor was essentially the same apart from the 4 parameters mentioned earlier. Which ultimately made equipment customization a moot point.

All in all, the word that comes to mind when writing this is “shallow”. In our current gaming industry, where there’s a great new indie studio every year, a game just can’t skate by on good artwork and cat-puns alone. Maybe I’ll check out the sequel at some point, and hope this studio fulfils more of this game’s potential than it this in the first one.

5.5/10

Decent game, great to play while watching shows/streams. Would not recommend if you're looking for a good story, atmosphere, or soundtrack.

The combat is okay for what it tries to accomplish, but starts to get very stale/button-mashy as time goes on.

Graphics are nice, crisp animations, and quality.

Music/Sound effects is where I found this game to be lacking in also. Not much variety, and little to no desire to hear the music after the first few times.

Story was absolutely horrendous.
I felt completely disengaged throughout the entire story, and could not care for any dialogue that passed as it felt stale and repetitive. The ending to this game was... questionable? It was one of the few times the game managed to capture my attention, yet it absolutely failed. I was honestly already let down by the rest of the story, that this ending came as a surprise to me by how much worse it had gotten.

If you're looking for a cheap game to play with little-to-no attention, this should scratch that itch.

Cute 2D souls-like for casuals with infinite puns. I enjoyed the game, gonna also do all quests and dungeons. Not sure about the NG+/Mew game though, quickly checking it it looks like enemies have ~10x more HP than in NG and that's it, doesn't seem like a lot of fun to me atm., I might try out Cat Quest 2 instead :)

I find this game more difficult than I reasonably should, but it's pretty engaging and I really like the aesthetic of the game. I don't think you can change the default control scheme, which made this game much harder for me, and there aren't difficulty settings. While I overall recommend this game for it's gameplay and art, I would caution that it can be a bit frustrating for people who are "bad at videogames."

I know I only have a few minutes but I've beat the game twice on my nintendo switch, and I just want to say that this game is AMAZING! Please get it if it's on sale it is so good. The graphics are great and the gameplay is smooth. Yes, it is a very very basic cookie cutter game, but it has so much charm to it and you should definitley give it a try. (The game is also pretty funny)

I have been really enjoying this adorable story, but the game play blacks out randomly while playing ALL THE TIME. I have tried re-installing, scanning, etc. I can't get it to stop! I would like to find a fix for this because I am really wanting to play through both games!

Very cute indie game. I didn't really know what to expect from it, but the gameplay and story were both very solid. I will say that the side quests usually amounted to nothing more than just, "go here, kill this guy, then go back to NPC" but there were still a few good ones.

What is Cat Quest ?

Got both the first and second game in a heavily discounted bundle because looking through some of the previews on the store page it looked like a pretty good indie and after 5 and half hours I finished the first game in a single sitting, to make this review brief Im gonna say that Cat Quest is an ok, average game, in fact its one of the most average indie games I have played recently, the very first few mins you already know the type of game youre going to play until you reach the credits it doesnt diverge much from that, the game has a beautiful art design and I really like how the overworld is set in a map, its a pretty simple game that will make you feel like youve played something like it before because like I said its very average and doesnt do anything different or complex, here you have a rpg where you go around the map doing fetch quests which consists of talking to character x, killing monsters or going to a specific point in the map, theres caves that you clean of monsters and receive a loot at the end but there isnt anything like different types of weapons or something that gives the player more options to keep the gameplay more fresh, you just equip different swords or armors that increase you damage, defense or magic damage and there are like 7 different spells to use, the story is pretty silly and throw-away altho serviceable to the game, there are some really annoying moments where I feel like the game was stretching its duration for the sake of it, like I had to talk to someone and the game sent me to a cave to clean it all of its monsters just to discover that the character was hiding outside the cave (???), so it pretty much recycles its existing fundations until it cant anymore, but with a length of 5 hours to finish the main quest and at least 80% of the side content, it feels decent enough to not make you tired.

This is the great type of a game to play while you hear music, a podcast or some video you saved to watch later in the background, its the type of game you play just to pass the game not giving much attention to what is going on, theres a demo if you want to try it out but its cheap and managed to hold my attention for 5 hours in a single sitting, I wouldnt call this a good game but it did what I expect it to do, so it get a thumbs up from me, just get it during a sale tho, but there are many better indies out there than this average cat of averageness.

Flareon

A light-hearted and fun adventure game that can be completed in around 4 to 5 hours. I enjoyed the theme and puns along the way. The second game picks up where the story left off from the first and also features Co-Op. If you enjoyed the first game, the second is also fun, especially with a friend.

Worth it if it's on a good discount. Pretty short and extremely cute and inoffensive dungeon-crawler type app, you'd have to be a miserable person to actively hate this game lol. I bought it for my wife but I ended up beating it in a couple of sittings because the mechanics were pretty simple and the combat was easy to cheese once I got the hang of the attack and evasion timings.

Simple, super cute ARPG. Kinda like Diablo... with cats... on easy mode. I loved it, it's so chill. Disappointed with the achievements as they're all end game, you also have to play through the main story many times with different modifiers applied if you want more than 50% of them. Overall, the cat's whiskers!

A relatively fun game to just pass some time. The jokes and the story line are a bit cheesy but what did you expect from a game called "Cat Quest". For me I personally find this a fun speedrun game as the routes and tricks are relatively simple and easy to pick up. 8/10

Fu Shigi
Fu Shigi

This game is quite fun but its pretty barebones as far as the core gameplay loop and variety in builds goes. Kinda fun to turn the brain off though if you're into that.

Talliebear
Talliebear

This has a great story, the combat feels very intuitive and satisfying. The artwork is adorable. The music is really great, I especially love the sneaky music. The side quests have been very immersive, I find myself excited to go back to pick the next one up so I can get to the bottom of the mysteries. It kind of has an older Zelda game feel, like link to the past. Very different, but same vibe.

It feels very balanced.. I am only level 35-40 but the feeling of progression to this point has felt very satisfying.

I recommend it to anyone who likes a somewhat laid back game, likes cats and/or puns, and loves games like the older games for gameboy. Zelda seasons, oracles, minish cap, etc. It's such a comforting game to play, just like those were/still are.

Zauberin Stardreamer
Zauberin Stardreamer

I found that the gameplay was okay, but the story left much to be desired. That, and the constant barrage of cat puns got tiring very quickly. I also grew to hate the spirit companion you are saddled with. He is not only an annoying sidekick, but also a bit condescending and keeps addressing people as "peasant".

There's a dungeon, the bandit might be in there! Now... SLAUGHTER THEM ALL

Seriously though, this game is great and if you like cat puns then you'll fall in love with it! It's a cartoony mainly story built game, if you plan on completing everything you can get anywhere from 3-10h out of it. At times it can be a little annoying since you have to do a LOT of walking. It gets better once you unlock the other abilities so you should stick around for that. There are side quests and all of them have pretty good story's to keep you entertained. Three more things, 1. There's a HUGE plot-twist at the end if you stick with the game. 2. Try going to south watch every now and then. :) Final thing, the price for this game is okay, I suggest waiting until it's on sale though. If none of this convinced you to get it then just play the demo.

TL:DR - Fun bite-sized RPG.

PROS:

+ Easy RPG to pick up and play. Helped me out of a Videogame block.

+ Fun Combat with dodging well telegraphed enemy attacks.

+ Nice colorful graphics.

+ Fluid movement, great controls.

+ World Map is just the right size for this type of game.

+ Fast character text, doesn't waste your time with the dialogue

MIXED:

.Very generous, maybe too generous checkpoint system. You can die in a cave after getting a cool bit of equipment and you will still keep it.

CONS:

- Gets repetetive. Level up, monsters get stronger too, get stronger equiptment, you know the drill.

- Sometimes frustrating enemies.

- Final boss fight underwhelming.

- Abrupt ending.

Overall, a lovely wee game. Took about 6 hours to beat with a few quests done here and there in between. Hoping to play the sequel and see what it has in store!

KingFox
KingFox

Great fun game! It's very simple, family oriented, but I found it quite fun to play and quite addictive to go through the world clearing monsters and getting more and more stronger. There are a few secrets that will make you so powerful that it's almost cheating! XD
The exploration and combat is very simple, but there's a good sense of progress that pushes you forward and the combat, even if also very simple, it's fun for a couple days on the sofa with your controller.
As a plus, I found the story quite well written, even if with the silly cat puns and the lighthearted tone, there were a few moments of interesting twists in the events!
Hardcore RPG fans probably won't see much in this game, but if you're looking for a relaxed funny play, this is a great option!
