I love myself a puzzle game with a simple core mechanic that is more deeply explored over time. Colorgrid is a perfect example of such a game. It feels very satisfying to complete the levels. I was especially happy to get through level 69. I must have spent at least two hours on that one alone. Funny enough, level 70 was super easy for me. And that is Colorgrid in a nutshell. Different players will get stuck on different levels, but they will always rejoice when they do clear them. The user interface and the whole aesthetic are very clean. I like that you are given the option to turn off the sounds, music, and to change the backgrounds. The only thing I wish it had was a level editor. I think that this game really lends itself to that. But regardless, I want to congratulate the developers. I had a lot of fun playing Colorgrid and I recommended it to many people.

I just finished the game after slowly picking at it for months and it was definitely interesting. I think that most of the levels are intuitive but there were some that had me stuck for quite some time and a few that made me turn the game off for a while and come back with a fresh pair of eyes to find the solution. The last level seemed impossible to me but instead of taking a break I chose to just stick it out because I wanted to finish. The solution felt like cheating to me but it was the only way that it could be solved as far as I could tell which feels very unsatisfying to me. I liked that every time I got stuck prior to this that it felt like I was racking my brain to find a simple solution to what felt like a complex problem, but the final level feels unwarranted because the solution is never expressed anywhere else in the whole game. I will talk about the specifics below so I'm gonna mark it as a spoiler.

In every other level you have to set down all of the pieces on a space. The light turrets, mirrors, and brackets are all forced to be placed somewhere . In the last level, the only solution is to pick up the extra mirror and hold it while the lasers finish the loop with the immovable mirrors. At first I thought the level was unsolvable until I had been holding the mirror for a few seconds to figure out where to put it and I realized the lasers were still showing so i just rotated the original mirror into place and picked it up again and the level solved. I feel like the devs intended an "Aha!" moment here but it simply feels like an exploit to the system the prior 69 levels set up for you, it would've felt much sweeter if an extremely early level had you do something similar and the final level a callback or if there was an inventory/trashcan system that was introduced but never used, but that isn't the case. If I'm not mistaken(and I could be since i played the game over the course of a few months) other levels don't solve until you put all the pieces down even when you have the solution dialed in.

This is an excellent game through and through. It manages to do so much for otherwise having a very simple premise. The core of the game is you have a laser, and that laser must get to the right place in the end. But then the game introduces reflectors and walls, and the ability to rotate those, and reductions to the amount of lasers that you have, and what was initially a simple premise becomes a difficult puzzle with multiple solutions to it. The level progression is commonsensical and satisfying, and the game is currently priced at an absolute steal. Pair it with a bundle or a sale and it would be a crime not to pick this one up!

I wish I could give a "meh" review. The concept here is good, and it's executed well.. but it gets old and achingly intricate fast. If that appeals to you -- spending a lot of time sorting out which mirror goes where -- then go for it. But as someone with a tough job and doesn't want lots of confusing minutiae in his gaming, I could only get through half of this one.

Papallion

we need a MEH button so badly - its a fun game and i love laser mirror games, but the controls bog this one down - pieces are miserable to rotate and that really breaks my chain of thought - just let us use the right mouse button to rotate, please - seven out of ten stolen cheese wheels

Great puzzle game!
The first levels are well designed that make it possible to learn intuitively without tutorial.
As the game progresses, the levels start to get well elaborated. They require thinking about how to solve. Not that easy!

A minimalist puzzle game where you play with colors . The objective is kindle squares with lights that have different colors. It is a very intuitive game, but not easy. Conforming you advance in the levels, new mechanics are introduced. It is a very fun game and the cost benefit is very good.

It costs less than a buck, it's so brute-simple that there's no tutorial (You learn by Doing, without a single word-box necessary, which is fantastic for a puzzle game) and it's a solid rainy-day activity if you just want to turn your brain off and Play Video Games.

Strong recommend for puzzle-gamers and casual players. You might only play in short bursts, but there's tons of community content, too, so you'll have plenty to keep you going.

I like this game for its simplicity and how relaxing it is to play whilst keeping my brain active.
One problem I have is that because it's such a fresh new game, there aren't any play-through's online of the game.
So a possible update that could happen is be to add a "hint" button for each levels. Or at least for the more challenging levels.
But besides it's a good.

I like this game very much. It's easy to understand and at the same time some of the levels are really challenging. I can recommend it to everyone be it children or adults.

I would like to see some more levels in the future. That would be great :)

Thanks for this awesome game!

For some reason this game uses subtractive colour mixing like paint (blue+yellow=green) rather than additive like light (red+green=yellow; red+green+blue=white) despite being based on lasers.

Otherwise a decent little puzzler which takes about 2 hours to complete.

its a pleasant little puzzle game about color mixing. i seem to have run into a bug with the level select screen and lost about 20 levels of progress, but for 99 cents this game is more than worth it. just don't try to change levels

Easy to understand, difficult to master puzzle game with laser reflecting as the central gimmick.

If you like games where you play more and more complex puzzles iterating on the same basic concepts, give this one a try. It certainly is one of them

Usbserial
Usbserial

One of the more challenging indie puzzle games I've played so far on Steam. Graphics could be slightly nicer and I encountered a couple bugs while playing (nothing that prevented me from completing a level however) but the mechanics are solid.

Remember when you were a bored five-year-old, sneaking into the dining room at midnight an absconding with your mother’s colored party napkins?

Remember putting a towel at the base of your bedroom door so no one would see you were using lights?

Remember shining a flashlight through the party napkins to create shadow puppets with auras of various colors?

Remember your friends being unimpressed and showing you how to do a much more impressive trick with 7 ROYGBIV laser pointers, a compact mirror, and a box of broken lightbulbs?

The Good:

    • You get thrown right into the game. It starts off simple, but the difficulty ramps up as you progress.
    • Part of what makes the game more difficult is added gameplay elements; boxes that close one path and open another, mirrors, subtractive colors (yes even, though they’re lights), and turntables. Eventually you’re able to move all the different pieces around yourself.
    • The music has a bit more going on with it compared to other minimalist games.

The Neutral:

    • 70 levels total.

The Bad:

    • The lasers get redrawn as you move pieces around and you have to wait for that to see the effect it has.

Pro Tips:

    • Look for spaces that share the same color. That alone will reveal part of the solution.
    • If you can’t figure out the solution, you may be over-complicating one aspect of it. See if you can do part of it in fewer moves.

I know what you’re thinking: “I’ve seen the whole ‘lasers and mirrors’ game before. Every HOG even has that as a minigame.” True. And while the easiest levels may be reminiscent of such puzzles, it quickly turns into a more unique and challenging experience as more elements are introduced. It’s well worth the asking price of $1.

Overal, I found the game enjoyable. The puzzle dynamic is intuitive enough that you can reason very well about it without much guessing, and mixing colours is always fun. The only thing that could have been improved is that I think the tutorial-type levels in the 40s could have been somewhat more difficult. It's could to have somewhat easier puzzles to get used to a new dynamic, but there was now quite a drop in difficulty. On the other hand, I was stuck on level 36 for quite a long time, so I think that this level could be put somewhere later, or there could have been some levels in between building up difficulty.

Colorgrid is a minimalist 2D puzzle game about mixing colors using laser connections. This game is great and at the first play, it seems to be easy, but from the half of it, this game becomes so weird hard and that's why I didn't finish it.

I liked the game mechanics - use the lasers to color the squares by passing the lasers
beams through them.

You can use mirrors to direct the beams and you can combine the beams to get another color.
There were 2 issues thet kept annoying me but I tried to play the game despite them.

But after level 36 I could not bear with them any longer.
Those issues can be seen on this picture:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2270004659

1) Yellow and blue lasers are turned on.
The lid of red and yellow laser are fully colored
The lid of blue laser is not fully blue colored.

Why does it matter? It help to see which lasers are on or off.
I do not want to have to analyze the beam color to know that.
Was it that difficult to get the blue laser working same as others?

2) You see that certain squares have to be colored in #AA6739 color.
While it adds the challenge of having to combine 3 lasers in one square,
the color is very similar to orange. I keep confusing them especially when lasers are on.
Why do you have to use them in the same level?

If this issues do not bother you that you can try the Colorgrid.
I will not be recommending it.

ಠ_ಠ Bugs and difficulty spikes mar this minimalistic puzzler.
Puzzles involving lasers and mirrors aren't a particularly new concept. They're often used in mini-games in other titles, but Colorgrid they're the main attraction. They're not terrible, but by the time I finished Colorgrid I wasn't having fun flowing from one puzzle to another anymore, it was just a slog to not be beaten by it and its bugs.

Progression is linear, so it's easy to get stuck when you hit a difficult stage.
For me, this was Level 36. I spent perhaps an hour and a half going through different combinations of the puzzle, with everything solved by one goal piece, until I finally stumbled upon the solution. It'd be a better game if you were able to skip puzzles and tackle others before circling back with a fresh set of eyes. Getting stuck on a puzzle ruins the zen-like flow of solving puzzles like these.

The turning mechanics don't work well.
At the higher levels, Colorgrid introduces spaces that you can click rotate a piece. Once rotated, that piece can be placed somewhere else. The end result is that you can rotate any of the pieces in the puzzle, you just have to move them to that spot, rotate them, and move it out. Why not just allow the player to rotate pieces with a mouse-wheel rather than making them jump through hoops unnecessary?

Placing a new piece or rotating one causes the laser animations to be redrawn.
This is tolerable earlier in the game, but on the higher puzzles where your lasers are going through over a dozen squares, this slows down play to see all the animations/sounds because you adjusted one mirror.

Bugs, bugs, bugs.
ಠ_ಠ The level select screen stopped updating its animation of completed levels for me at level 51 until I restarted the game. For a while, I thought I might lose progress.
ಠ_ಠ Sometimes the rotation tiles will bug out and not turn a piece.
ಠ_ಠ Very rarely, you'll complete a puzzle once you have the pieces on the right tiles, but before you rotate them to the right places.
ಠ_ಠ The color of the 'combine all' goal is too similar to the 'orange' goal.

The minimalist aesthetic and music choices are good, but not enough to make up for the game's other flaws. Skip it.

Awesome little puzzle game.
Pros:
- Simple
- Colorful
- Low Specs Required (potato computer welcome!)
- Cheap as hell (I paid 0,71$ for 70 levels, 0,01$/level)
- Easy to learn

Cons:
- Minor bugs near the end levels, when mechanics get too complex
- The first 10 levels are a bit repetitive
- Most levels are easy and there is only a handful that are truly chanllenging

Great for a night of solo "boardgames" or for kids.

About 3 hours to get through the 70 levels.

I agree with other comments saying that it is a good brainteaser puzzle, like the ones in mobile phone App store. There is a total of 70 Levels, 33 hrs to complete. 1-20 are tutorials. Then Level 30 onwards are hard/a challenge. The colour of the background can be changed to 5 colours(mainly colours of newspapers). Definitely worth installing, if you are really bored and wants to occupy your brain with solving puzzles. There are some bugs from Level 36 onward till Level 70(the end), but re-switching-On the beams or restarting the game somehow fixed it.

The first 35 puzzles - that's half of them - in 17 minutes (and half that time was waiting for the interface to catch up). Yes, there's some learn-the-mechanics in there, but still… Even at a steep discount, this game is over so fast it's barely worth the effort to install it.

Prime Seeker

The game is hostile to color sight-deficient people, with main offender being green-yellow (and, to the lesser extent, orange). There is no way to change color scheme, description and screenshots are unhelpful, the first achievement pops before the first encounter with the problem. Still passable thanks to a sliiight contrast, but frustrating.
Aside from that, a decent, even if too short, 'laser' puzzle.

Yes, I completed it. Was it good? No. Was it bad? Not really. Why? The puzzles themselves were interesting and the concept was good, but the execution was lacking. The controls are glitchy, sometimes things swap places when you put something in an occupied space, sometimes they don't. The control to move something is the same as the control to spin it, and that's the same as the control to turn on the light. Why? The mouse has two buttons at least and multiple other interaction options. My best guess is this was originally made for tablet. There were plenty of other glitches I encountered. Once while concidering how best to place a mirror I managed to super size it. Also, once I completed it the level select showed me as having only completed level 19.

Finally, a little pet peeve I had for the whole project.... when red light, yellow light, and blue light combine... it should be WHITE, not mucky orange.

In conclution, its okay to skip this puzzler. You honestly won't be missing much.

enigmavar1

The game is OK but there are a couple of really annoying things that need to be addressed.

The mechanics of the game are sloppy - by that I mean that you it is not clear where you have to press to activate/ deactivate the lasers. It requires a very precise fiddly click.

All that is required is to have the coloured middle of the laser be pressed once to activate and then pressed again to deactivate. One big sweet spot - no fiddling required

Similarly with the mechanic to rotate tiles.

This is also a very imprecise mechanic. You should just have to press the side of the tile to get it to rotate in that direction. Instead, it doesn't seem to matter where you press, it will then rotate , but not necessarily in the direction you want - nor will it cycle in order through Up, Right, Down, Left. It just seems to randomly select a direction

The other major point is something that a lot of game developers overlook, particularly those using Unity.
You need to include the ability to RESET THE GAME and play over from the beginning.

This is a basic requirement for ANY game, and it is astonishing how many game developers don't remember to include this feature.

gbors

Color Grid is a colour mixing puzzle game. You need to light up the marked squares with the predefined colour, using your red, yellow and blue lasers. Some squares are of simple colours, and some need mixing. And do you know what you get if you mix, red, yellow and blue? No, not white. Brown. A most realistic touch :)
In general, the game is well executed - the visuals are functional without getting in the way, the music is nice, and the controls are OK. On more complex screens, I sometimes ran into glitches (eg. lasers not switching off), but those could be remedied by restarting the level. Slightly annoying, nothing serious.
And the puzzle design? Well, that's a mixed bag. The early 20-30 screens are very easy, then there's a huge difficulty spike, with a string of excellent levels between level 30 and 40. Interestingly, the game seems to run out of gas after that, with only maybe 4-5 interesting levels in the last 30 (there are 70 levels in total). I see this in more and more puzzle games...
All in all, Color Grid is a good game, and it's easy to recommend with its sub-1-EUR price.

A fun little game if you're in the mood to solve puzzles. Manipulate the pieces and their locations to bounce the coloured light to match the requisite boxes in increasing difficulty, until at last everything lines up neatly.

Great if you're a fan of similar games, or if you're looking for something challenging you can pick up and put down whenever you're in the mood.

Berahlen
Berahlen

It's fun enough, but has issues. The difficulty is very inconsistent and peaks around the middle of the game -- past that you either have an overabundance of resources, or an overabundance of restrictions that allow only so many sane approaches. Also buggy; the level select has to be reloaded several times to show all of your unlocked levels, and color receptors will sometimes lock to previous laser inputs even after you turn them off, requiring a level restart.
