Nice relaxing grid based game.

If you have trouble launching the game you can try the following steps:

1. Right click on the game's name in your Steam Library, and go to the "Properties...", then "Local Files", and finally "Browse".
2. Find "CritterCrunch.exe" in the new folder window, right click on it, and select "Properties".
3. Click "Compatibility" and check the "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" box. Click "Ok".
4. Launch the game, you should be able to see the game now, though in 640x480 resolution.
5. On the in-game "Options" menu, select 1920x1080 resolution and apply the changes. The game should now be fully playable.
6. (optional) Uncheck the checkbox in step 3.

Verdict: Recommended.

Played the hell out of this on the PS3 and now I will be doing the same on the Steamdeck, such a great puzzle game and hey, let's feed the main characters kid by puking rainbows! For the price on sale (even full price) totally worth it.

Almost everyone on my friends list has this game. I may or may have bought it for them. I've been waiting for a friend pack option forever.
Please critter crunch on my balls, nayhhhh.
Such a good game to kill time with friends.
Also if you have shit internet its so fast to download.

It's not a match-3 but kinda. Cute hand drawn graphic, enjoyable music. Challenges and puzzles mode are challenging for sure. Game is often on sales, worth buying. For multiplayer tho almost impossible to find people online. But the good news is, you can play it with your friends via remote play so only 1 person needs to have it

A food chain themed pop them all where in you have to feed critters to larger sized critters and so on till the bar fills or you eventually don't get mangled yourself into the food chain with the quickly descending rows of critters. Something that you have played probably Quadrillionth time already before but you still don't mind giving this an another try. Except for the looping repetitiveness, the game is just fine. In the end, it will leave you hungry.

This is not your typical matching game, at all. Lots of challenges and puzzles keep it going with a good adventure mode and lots of new critters to crunch. I must agree with another reviewer, I did enjoy playing this on ps3 with the controller more than here with the mouse, it just doesn't seem to have the same feel. This is a must try game even at full price!

Cute game. Simple to learn but gets increasingly difficult while introducing new concepts at a steady pace. Plays great with a keyboard but is best with a controller.

Starts out simple enough as these games tend to do, gets more complex and harder as it goes. Nice puzzlegame.

Pros:
- Has multiple game types/modes.
- Has a good amount of content to complete.
- Is a 'real' release (Little or no bugs).
- Allows for alternate/multiple methods to win tasks/puzzles. You can even complete tasks/puzzle with leftover turns/time/bonus items sometimes for more points.
- Uses small amount of resources (As it should).

Cons:
- Has story section at the start of the campaign which is unskippable and have to wait/click through painfully whenever anyone starts new campaign. --

A very fun and casual puzzle game! I used to play this on my old phone and was glad to find it on Steam so I could keep playing. There are several different modes (adventure, puzzle, survival...) to keep you interested. It plays well alone or on local co-op, and my USB controllers were easy to set up for it (I prefer the controller to the keyboard and mouse). The graphics are adorable and the story is plenty goofy. I've never had any problems with lag or bugs while playing. I wouldn't mind trying out online vs. mode, but have never seen anyone else online.

I'm a fan of puzzlers like Tetris and PuyoPop and this definitely fulfilled my desire for that sort of game!

Gameplay: Each campaign world introduces a new mechanic, gently expanding Critter Crunch's basic puzzle premise into a diverse field of interactions. The variety of special critters and abilities produces a deep optimization exercise. I had great fun with the puzzle and challenge levels - they encourage studying move consequences that would otherwise go unnoticed in the frenzy of clearing the board.

Controls: Generally quick and responsive, which is ideal for what becomes a twitch puzzler at high levels. However, I wish it took the same time to interact with critters regardless of screen position. Waiting for Biggs' tongue to extend for high-hanging critters needlessly breaks the flow/pacing.

Presentation: The atmosphere of Critter Crunch is beautiful - smiling sprites, vibrant colors, and upbeat tunes. Biggs has so many animation frames that it's fun to pause the game to see what expression the little fellow has at that instant. Funny storyline, definitely the most enjoyable ending within this genre!

I like this game, but I hate the controls. I spaz out and can't line the goddamned mouse up and I end up shooting into the wrong column. It's a real ass-chapper.

It's a game that is addictive to some people. Well some of the puzzles are difficult to solve as u progress on to a higher level. Although it is difficult to solve, it is addictive! I cant get hold of it! Even though i falied some stages a lot of times i kept re-trying again... I love this game even though i didnt play this game long enough!!

Really cute, creative, and fun. Picked it up on a sale, and it's fun and easy to play once you figure it out. There is a story mode, which has puzzle mode and challenge mode included, but if you want to shortcut to those modes you can do so at the main menu. Story is not the greatest thing ever, but it's pretty fun. They introduce new power-ups, monsters (I guess they are monsters), almost once every new area. That really is a bummer, because my first time playing I decided to go directly into co-op survival and we didn't know what to do, and had to play a little of the story to find out. The challenges and puzzles get increasingly difficult, and I really like that about it. The best part has definitely been the co-op. My boyfriend plays this with me, and he thinks it's fun and cute too. I only wish there was a story co-op! As of now, there are only two modes that can be played co-op, and those are basically a survival mode (It speeds up and you just try to get a high score) and a verses mode. You can play with two people on the same computer, or connect to someone online, which is nice. It works great with both the keyboard and a controller. It isn't a game you can play straight for 50 hours, but still, it was on sale, it was co-op, and worth it, because it's relatively easy to pick up and play anytime. I'd recommend this for people who like creative puzzle games and have a soft spot for chibi like graphics.

I got this game to play with my wife. She likes it, so I like it.

We play it with USB DDR Dance Pads.

I just wish the adventure mode was full co-op. Multiplayer consists entirely of either one verses mode or co-op mod. Would like some form of cooperative progression

This game is ridiculously cute. From fast-paced challenges to puzzles that make you think, there are plenty of different modes and levels to keep you playing. I could happily feed critters and puke rainbows all day. The levels can range from easy to very hard and some may even make you want to rage quit. However in adventure mode you only need to complete 3 per area to unlock the next set and once the other modes are open you can always skip levels and leave the harder ones for later. Overall I think there's plenty of challenge and gameplay for your money and if it's on sale it's a no-brainer for any puzzle fan.

I've been playing this game so much recently that on my ride home from work tonight the thought occured to me that if I just stick my car's tongue out and eat the car in front of me I could get home more quickly. I'm totally serious. Anyway it's a really fun puzzle game. The characters are adorable and the diffrent level backgrounds have a really beautiful art style to them.

This game is interesting in a weird way. Honestly I'm not sure what to think of it. Honestly I think it's kind of morbid that the creatures go through the food chain especially when they are so happy and scared at the same time. This would probably also fit in the side thumb category.

Great puzzle game to waste a few minutes or several of hours with, depending on the spare time you have. Certainly a game that's suited for adults (considering the increasing difficulty) and children (considering the animation, colours, multi-player mode and level of cuteness). Adorable, easy-going game-play!

It's a cute little game, unique too. You feed a critter twice and it'll pop any critter of it's same color in a chain. To feed a critter have to go from small to large. There are power-ups that can be eaten by any critter size.

Eventually the game gets difficult and becomes more punishing. You have to think fast and react quick later on. Eventually it does get rather tedious but does throw in a few new mechanics as you go in deeper. There are puzzles too that'll leave you head scratching and attempting many times.

I haven't had any experience with multiplayer though.

This game is everything that I hoped it would be. Local co-op with a friend is excellent and we are currently ranked in the 60's. Local versus is a blast. The Xbox 360 controller works like a charm. And by using a program called DS4 Windows my friend is able to use his PS4 controller too. The graphics are exactly what the preview shots look like, somewhat anime-ish with painted backgrounds. I really like it. Music is great. The critters drop down slow at first but if you can survive then the game really does pick up pace, or there is a button you can press to make the rows drop faster. There are a bunch of funny items and tricks to learn. I recommend playing adventure mode first to learn how the game works. But it's also pretty fun to go into local co-op and versus blind with your friend and figure the game out together. Right now we are playing through adventure mode by taking turns and helping one another out (also yelling at each other and making dirty jokes). It's been hilarious. I want it to never end. But even after the main game is completed there are puzzle and challange modes, and always the faithfully entertaining versus and co-op.

Alien Rope Burn
Alien Rope Burn

So, for those that don't know, this was Capy Games' first game as their own publisher (better known for Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes or Super Time Force Ultra). It's a puzzle game similar to Magical Drop or the obscure Money Idol Exchanger, where you're trying to line up critters on vines, using food chain-themed matches to "pop" all the adjoining critters of the same colors. The critters slowly march down the vines, and you lose if they manage to reach the forest floor. When you get a particularly long combo going, your kid will show up to be fed, and you can stop to vomit rainbows into its mouth for a big score bonus and a powerup- though the relentless march of the critters continues during that time.

In general, it's a pretty solid system. Various special critters and powerups are introduced through the adventure mode - through probably a bit too slowly - that vary up things. Most of these are solid additions, though a few only bog the game down, like the toxic critters that rain down score-draining items on their death, or the morphing critters that change type and basically prevent you from making long-term plans.

Graphically it's gorgeous for its age. Though it only runs in 720p, it was one of the early PS3 releases and has some neat Ghibli-inspired designs and animation, even if it isn't vastly varied. In general, it still looks pretty sharp and has a very appealing art style. Unfortunately, the less said about the dialogue and humor, the better - I realize it was probably written for children, but even on that level the random messages you get on a game over screen is almost all cringeworthy stuff that makes "dad jokes" look sophisticated and wry.

There are three main modes: a standard play described above, a puzzle mode where you have to pop all the on-screen critters in a limited amount of moves, and challenge modes where you have to play to meet special requirements. In general it holds up pretty well, but like a lot of puzzle games, you're somewhat dependent on chance to get good combos going. At the very end of the adventure mode, sadly, you're essentially dependent on the RNG serving up the right playfield to complete it at the punishing pace it expects, which is a dissapointment.

In general, though, it's a solid game and worth playing around with if you pick it up on sale, particularly if you have a puzzling itch. The number of innovative match-3 games on Steam is surprisingly slim, and this is one of the standout titles on the service if you're into the genre.

Relies too much on adding more and more critter types and complexities, instead of having a strong core puzzle mechanic that stands on its own.

Really great puzzle game. The solo campaign is fun to play but the best part is the hot seat multiplayer, where you can play co-operative or versus another player on keyboard or with controllers.

Caution! Relationships may end while playing the versus mode!

A cute, family friendly little game that definitely seemed underrated when I got my hands on it. Has a nice little story, as well as fun forms of multiplayer. You can either play with your friend, or against them. It's colorful, cheerful and bound to bring at least a tiny smile to you. The controls are simple to master, but RNG may ruin you on occasion. Worth the money I paid.

素晴らしいポッサム
素晴らしいポッサム

This is a great game, there's a nice single player mode with a funny story, some challenging puzzles and challenge levels, and there's multiplayer (online and local), both versus and co-op.

I feel like the adventure mode does a pretty good job of pacing the additions, by the time I was at the end, I hadn't even realized how many types of critters I was disposing of and eating the crystal guts (You'll understand in time ;) out of, but when you're playing local multiplayer with someone new, you might have to explain some of those critters to your ally/opponent.

The sound, art, and animation are on point, so there's nothing I feel I need to mention there, unless, of course, you don't like cute critters getting fed to other, bigger critters, who in turn blow up...

Lastly, I guess I'll say that with the variety of powerups and everything, you can set up some incredibly satisfying combos. Well, you can do some cooler ones without using powerups, too, with a bit more work, but turning the whole screen into two colors then blowing up them all in one big chain is a great feeling.

Originally I bought this game to play with my older sister after we tried it on PS3, but I've ended up playing it a lot by myself and even though she always loses, she still has fun with versus, though she prefers co-op, I think. ;P

Only just downloaded it on sale and played 5 minutes - but memories came flooding back of one of my genre favourites of all time - Clash Of Heroes.

I hate replaying games once I've completed them so never revisted Clash Of Heroes - Critter Crunch seems familiar enough but with a cutesy explorer wildlife theme which I'm surprised that I'm actually into

For 80p on sale this is a no -brainer if you like the genre!

Awesomely adorable fast paced puzzle game. well worth a try! cute graphics and designs, hilarious setup. much laughs to be had. Great way to quickly blow off some steam. great learning curve and teaching method through the campaign puzzles, advanced play accessible the further into the adventures you get, you will be surprised just how many tactics you can use by the end, lots of fun challanges and modes. Will not regret no matter how many hours you put in for your buck. Good fun must try.

Best puzzle game ever. Right up there with tetris.

This is one of my favorite games.
Sure, it's childish. That's what I love about it.
Especially if it's with a friend where you can fill in the silence with random talk!
You get to calm down, lick a few flies and make the obese critters pop.
The creature you play as is absolutely adorable (especially if it has something in it's mouth and the cheeks bounce when you run around)!
It's also fun how quickly people judge, so if you have a friend that's usually playing games like Dark Souls or CS:GO; buy it for them and force them to play with you in hopes that their friends will bully them for it.
TL;DR: It's a cute game and it works for me in a therapeutic sense.

Critter Crunch is a fantastic experience for anyone interested in casual puzzle games or 2D animation art in general. The presentation of the game is outstanding with original animations that will make you think you are watching a Saturday morning cartoon or twisted anime while you are playing. The visuals alone are worth owning this game. The main story is short and sweet while providing a nice touch playing through adventure mode. The characters they came up with for this game fit perfectly into the type of humor you would expect from a wacky animated game. The story gives us some extremely funny moments as well as small jokes during the gameplay. I always smile when you have to "feed" Smalls that bright colorful regurgitation. As for the gameplay, the layout is a traditional top-down puzzle format that you see used in Tetris, Dr. Mario, etc. but the mechanics are quite different. You pick up small critters and shoot them around the board to feed larger critters. I can't think of a game with similar gameplay to this but Zuma comes to mind in the way you throw objects around the board. It is a very easy game to learn and quite fun. The levels are short but fitting for players who want a casual game that doesn't require lots of time and can be played at their leisure. When adventure mode is completed there are lots of additional puzzles, challenges and even online play to dig deeper into and keep you occupied for quite sometime. Definitely pick up a copy of this game. It is an awesome indie title with solid execution by the development team.

A simple, fun, colorful, and cute, game. I've played variations of this on the web, but this version is very polished, and the music suits it. A nice little time killer, or something fun to do while thinking abot something else. Recommended.

Recommended for any fan of arcade puzzle games, especially if you enjoy vigorous head-to-head multiplayer matches. My girlfriend loves Worms Blast, Bust-A-Move, etc. and this scratches that itch beautifully. The graphics are charming, and the game mechanic is both fresh and familiar.

The fun food-chain mechanic is thoroughly enhanced by the visuals and audio. The artwork is adorable without being insipid, and the animation and sound effects feature delightful details, such as the way the critters cringe and are scared by nearby explosions.

Versus mode is a lot of fun, and is our main attraction to the game. The fact that it's fun and keeps bringing us back says a lot--because it has a problem I don't usually enounter: Half the time a match ends, neither of us are sure exactly what one of us did to beat the other.

For example, while helpful powerups can be triggered at will once picked up, opponent-foiling boosts trigger the moment you touch them. Not bad, but reduces some of the strategy. Plus, it's not clear whether powerups spawn randomly or not, and some powerups will add 3-5 rows to your opponents screen--easily an instant match winner. I admit that some of the confusion comes from action moving so quickly as we rush to beat each other, that we can't always tell what powerup we just picked up.

I play on a Steam Link in my living room, with two Steam Controllers. During this game (and no other I've yet played) sometimes one of the controllers just stops responding. We pause, pop the battery out and then in again, and everything is fine. Weird. (Side note, anyone know how to power cycle a Steam Controller without removing the battery?)

The strengths outweigh the flaws by a longshot, and this inexpensive game is worth your time.

This is a brilliant and beautiful puzzle game. The basics are easy to learn, and they do a good job of keeping it interesting by always introducing new types of mechanics.

+ Great Presentation Values
+ New mechanics keep things fresh
+ Ramps up into a really solid challenge

Easy recommendation to anyone who enjoys puzzle games, or just wants something a bit lighter in tone.

Critter Crunch is a puzzle game where you play as a creature known as Biggs! The story is Biggs is trying to collect food in his bottomless belly to feed his children on the other side of the island. As Biggs you do this by playing a fun game of popping insects in particular order and collect gems that they drop.

The game is colorful and vibrant. I love the backdrops and animations of the bugs and Biggs himself. Since the game takes place on an island the developers did a fantastic job of using lots of color to give the game a great and memorable personality!

The music is tropical and very catchy. It really gets you in a smiling and playful mood when you're solving puzzles and trying to reach the goal. I found myself bouncing on my seat and humming along as I played and loved it.

The difficulty scales perfectly in this game. In the beginning the puzzles and stages are pretty simple. But the further you get into the island, you meet different types of bugs that alter and change the stage. You gain power-ups, and the puzzle mode stages (even though they are optional) really make you sit there and think. Watching the bugs explode into huge combos really got me pumped on the later stages and I will most certainly be playing the survival mode for fun on my off time.

Lastly I want to praise the developers for giving players three ways to play this game. You can play with keyboard, mouse, or controller. I personally felt i had more controller and speed with the keyboard, but it's nice to have options for different players.

So if you like a good puzzle game with great color, great music, and will really test your brain later on. I implore you to head on over to the island of Critter Crunch and help out a Biggs of your own. Until next time!

TL:DR: A great and colorful puzzle game that's fun and has a great difficulty curve to challenge both casual and hardcore players.

Super cute and twitchy arcade-style puzzler style that doesn't pull punches about the murderous gluttony of cuddly animals. Great for local co-op with inexperienced gamer friends.

Critter Crunch is one of the best "Match 3" games out there. The general concept is simple: feed smaller critters to larger critters. It takes 2 to "pop" a larger critter, creating a chain of pops of like color. Expidite this by "chaining" small->larger->larger, clearing the board faster and getting more points.

As with any good game, it takes that concept and expands on it with:
- Puzzle Levels
- Challenege levels
- Multiplayer
- Power-ups
- Increasing difficulty

A REALLY good match game, if you like those. Very much worth the time and money,

Now this is how it should be done. All you retro pixel art low-res trying-to-be-retro f##ks. take a look a this game. It is the embodyment of 16bit era games, just without making it look like total crap in the process.

Fun, easy to understand, pick up and play gameplay, you can play with your friend without wanting to kill him.

More like this one please.

I bought this for the local coop with my son, the drop speed increases way to quickly to be fun and the volume of creatures at the start is simply impossible. Local coop cannot be played for more than a few seconds.

A rather short game with a lot of various mechanics, but mostly fun. Has some additional modes for those who want more challenge. Beware, main puzzle requires some quick thinking/reflexes.

Great little game so far. Haven't played enough to fully judge its merits, but I'm impressed!

Pros

    • Match-3 game that adds a notable twist (match by size, not color)
    • Mechanic allows you to reorganize creatures as they fall to avoid fail states too quickly
    • Story mode, puzzle mode challenges with limited moves, survival mode (also can be done in local co-op)
    • Cute and clean art style, good for kids

I fed my son by puking rainbows in his mouth after mercilessly overfeeding and subsequently killing innocent critters. 10/10 would puke rainbows again (and recommend)

What is Critter Crunch ?

I love games like this, critter crunch is such a cute and fun game. its really hard to resist the charm this game has, its beautifully animated and has such a good vibe all around itvery styllistic too, as someone who likes simpler games like this in terms of gameplay. this is the great stuff to play when you just want to chill around, if you just want some arcade puzzle game to just relax a bit and have some fun this is a great pick, the game does have enough content here to satisfy everyone, besides the side modes you play such as challenge. survival or puzzle score attack (my favorite), the game DOES have an adventure mode of sorts, you know the main stuff, you get this map with different levels to complete and stuff to unlock, the game even throws some animated cutscenes at you on top of that it has a really good multiplayer mode which will test yours skills against other players, this is a great game to play with a friend too, as shown by the videos on the steam page, its a very nice game Im glad I found it, if you just want something small to chill on this game will entertain you for a good ammount of hours and considering its price III say just get it if what I said above sounds nice to you, a full recomendation is what this great game gets from me.

Fair time waster. Simple enough rules that keep expanding. Later levels are complex enough to properly challenge.

Want a cheap, unique, puzzle game about a Furby that barfs Rainbows? Then check out Critter Crunch. It's one of the forgotten gems from the original indie surge and was added in the "1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die" if that calms your buyers angst. It's a cute and very colourful puzzle game with a fair bit of content... very singularly a puzzle game though.

It does very well on The Cheapness checklist:
-It's great value for money
-Small download
-Easy to run (Works on The Warhorse)
-Has same screen multiplayer with split pad play
-Kid friendly

Favorite puzzle game ever. Had a blast playing co-op with my girlfriend online during lockdown, and sometimes VS mode for a small change of pace, it even has integrated voice chat! (with very limited settings though). If you like any match 3 or similar game, you'll enjoy this.

Critter Crunch is as likable today as when it originally came out on iOS more than a decade ago.

Gameplay introduces a charming twist on classic mechanics where big eats small through a crescendo of unique critters. Boost chains for score. Use a number of helpful power foods dropped by glowing critters. Match creature colors to score important combos. Avoid becoming lunch yourself!

Completed sections unlock new areas that introduce new mechanics via a diversity of cute critters, such as bombers, wildcards, and several others, including ever-unenthusiastic veggies that simply refuse to eat anything.

Regurgitating rainbow jewel slop into your offspring is undoubtedly the riskiest move but is essential for high scores.

Puzzle levels must be solved in a limited number of moves, while Challenge levels impose an extra constraint such as avoiding specific moves or saving a number of critters in due time. While most puzzles are quite fair, some challenges are actually very demanding, many of them dependent on random distribution opportunities.

Survival mode is just what you'd expect and multiplayer is no longer a viable option unless you connect directly with a friend.

Play as fast or relaxed as you like in early levels. Challenges and later adventure levels rely on speed and precision and become increasingly frustrating. Carefree fun eventually devolves into repetitive crunching when creatures come down too fast. It got to the point where I gave up on the final story level after being physically unable to match the game's performance expectations.

Positive

    • Lovely hand-drawn visuals
    • Cute and simple mechanics
    • Easily addictive and immediately accessible
    • Fair puzzles
    • Very satisfying flow
    • Short levels provide a quick fix
    • Good diversity of power foods and unique critters
    • Decent variety of puzzles, challenges and level setups
    • Increasingly challenging campaign with steady difficulty progression

Negative

    • Frustrating later levels rely on speed and precision too much
    • Non-interactive auto-play tutorials
    • Absurd and superfluous cooky ecosystem story beats don't really add much
    • Multiplayer is dead as should be expected so long after release

Despite ending on a sour note for me, Critter Crunch is an easy recommendation for several cheery hours of delightful fun.

This game is so goddamn cute and fun to play by yourself and with friends. I remember watching my parents play it on our PS3 when I was young, and I'm so happy that it's still available on steam!!

- Needs an undo button on the Puzzle stages.
- It also takes too long to restart a level manually or when you lose as you need to wait for the animation to finish.
- Some levels feel too RNG dependent. If you get critters in bad positions at the start it's easier to just restart.
- In adventure mode, you have to watch Biggs slowly walk through the map to get to the node you want. It can take a while depending on how far you need to go.
