Not even half as good as Homeword DoK...

When I saw that this dev was releasing a new RTS game, I was all in, because I enjoyed Homeword DoK and thought this was going to be even better than that... I was wrong.

Pros: #1. The cinematics are nice (though they stutter)

Cons: #1. The game has no tutorial during campaign OR during skirmish
#2. You can't see the stats of the units that you're building. You can ONLY see the cost of the unit you're building, but NOTHING else. Not damage, range, health, shield, abilities, etc.
#3. The one race has an AoE bombard ability (like the Ghost's Nuke in StarCraft2), that has a 'warning timer' of less than 5sec... so unless you can react to the warning sound, go over to the bombard area, select all your units, issue the move command AND get them moved out of the large bombard area in less than 5 seconds, then you're fvcked (spoiler alert: you can't). The 'warning timer' on the Ghost's Nuke was 15 seconds for a bloody reason... no human can react AND extract their units in 5 seconds.
#4. I'm not a SJW, but the game has only 2 black avatars and 5 white female avatars. It also has 5 robots avatars and 16 white guys... so the game literally has more robot avatars than black ones rofl. The robot race is represented 250% more, than the black race in this game. That's just brutal.
#5. You're not given ANY information with regards to the different difficulty mode changes. Does the AI just get smarter on higher difficulties, or do they actually gain bonuses? Nobody knows.
#6. The campaign is unbeatable. On normal difficulty (not even hard), I can't make it past the 2nd mission of the campaign.
#7. When you have a group of mixed units selected, the UI doesn't allow you to use each of the different units' abilities. You literally have to un-select the group, then select the group of units that you want to use the ability of, then use it, then select your mixed group again. How hard is it for the devs to just list all the abilities of a mixed group of units, on the UI?
#8. The cinematics in the game stutter and hitch
#9. You can't get back to the start menu, once you've gone to the "Play" menu.

Normally after a negative review I'd say: "I don't think the game is worth $30, it's only worth $15." But honestly I didn't even enjoy the game... so I don't think it's worth ANY money. Maybe things will change during the EA period, but it'll take a dev team who actually cares about quality... and I don't know if this is one that does. Rather go play Homeworld DoK (but please, in the name of all that is holy, don't pay $50 for it... Gearbox don't deserve a single red penny, so I'd seriously just sail the high seas or something, because it's a good game, but Gearbox are scum.)

EDIT: The dev replied. Thanks for your reply, and thanks for taking the criticism onboard. I understand that the game is still in EA and I will certainly update my review when the game fully releases and will amend it according to any fixed you implement. Also, I didn't mean to say that you guys are Gearbox, just that Homeworld DoK is published by them, and that they don't deserve a single penny.

Here's my first hour or so of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj1HBAwFT2U

The game in its current state is undoubtedly rough around the edge, but it nonetheless shows considerable promise. Some more balance, unit variety and depth, and there could be something here come Version 1.0.

It's worth noting as well that the RTS scene IS much more critical than many other communities, whether it be from the vocal e-sports crowd, or the similarly vocal "old guard" grognards. If it survives...it'd be a feat.

Don't come it expecting a SC2 or C&C clone(s). The game play and tactics are there it just needs some ironing out. Played 12+ hours at this point and i am enjoying it immensely!

Cool RTS-game. It has 3 different factions, teamfights and an interesting campaign so far, I like it.

Has great potential. Good to see a modern / futuristic RTS without fantasy creatures or aliens. So on that basis I am in and hopeful. Needs at least a FAST FORWARD option like X-Morph Defense for the in game cinematics to get the thumbs up from me (I don't enjoy being forced to rewatch things!).

The developers seem capable of making a great game and judging by what they have achieved so far, they appear to have the resources to do so. Problem is it took many hours of perseverance to get to a point where I was actually enjoying the game due to many rough edges (as expected for an early access game). It is developing pretty fast and I look forward to seeing it mature and live up to its potential.

The biggest problem with the campaign is you die learning the units, controls, etc and then have to sit through the same in game cinematic cut scenes again. Which kills your enjoyment and focus, increasing the chances that you will die again and have to sit through it again. The in game cut scenes desperately need an option to FAST FORWARD or SKIP. Fast forward like x-morph would be ideal. This and bad AI really messed with and ruined mission 2 for me. It takes the fun out of it. Watching the train come and go is torture!

I fell in love with RTS starting with C&C back in the day. Haven't played much RTS lately. Overall, I found mission 2 much harder than all other missions (finished all 8). Ultimately, to overcome m2, I played some player vs AI to better learn the game without those repetitive interruptions. Personally, I think the campaign should be the way to learn.

PLEASE:
- Fast forward option for cinematics that run in the game engine like X-Morph Defense has (great because it doesn't waste much of your time but you still see what happens in fast forward as a memory refresher)
- Better path finding / AI
- A specific example from mission 2, I had many units come at the main battle from below. A unit positioned in the archway blocked them all even though there is wide open street right there that should have allowed them to follow my instuction and reach the destination / battle easily. Instead I found half my army spinning on the spot
- A related issue in mission 2, I guess I found the 2 Scorpion units earlier then developers expected. As a result, after the main battle, if I go too close to the area where I took control of them, they go rogue and return to that place. Then I have to send another unit over to them to claim them again. They should never leave my control, especially not in the heat of battle
- Why do I constantly lose and have to re-set my control groups after each in game cinematic in the mountain mission? Within a mission with the same units on screen I constantly have to reconfig things

===================
= PATH FINDING & AI =
===================

The path finding is pathetic at times. Position a unit in a small passage way and you can have lots of units spinning in circles behind that blocked passage way because they are too dumb to go around it. Even though the blocked path involves a pillar only a few meters wide, they will spin on the spot indefinitely.

It seems like it can't handle any complications, if its first choice of path is blocked by a unit, it just gives up and spins. Heck some times units on the same team get tangled up facing each other. They try to resolve this by mirroring each others movements... so they dance together indefinitely... left then right then left then right...

Set a destination around the corner... your unit will navigate the terrain ok... but then crash into an enemy unit that is not moving and spin on the spot trying to figure out what to do as it still wants to get to the destination but has no idea how to go around the enemy.

The units also waste time trying to go to the exact same spot only to then realise they should space out so they can fire. So only a few units are effective while your other units are busy bumping into each other, leaving you open to taking substantial damage and losing units while they get their shit together.

= MICRO TRANSACTIONS =
======================

Blackbird are saying they are moving away from micro transactions due to feedback. However they are contradicting themselves a bit. Compare the devblog saying it was never part of the plan to the recent article with quotes from their COO & CEO saying micro transactions were part of the plan.

Given the contradiction, it would be good if they declared via a new update on steam that there will never be micro transactions - make it definitive. I know a bunch of people that ran from this game because of that. I only kept watching it evolve because I like the modern / futuristic asthetic which is rare in RTS, so I'm more more patient and hopeful.

DevBlog 18: Major Update 1.1 - Thu, June 30
------
The “store” section in-game worried players because it led some to wonder if we’d later introduce gameplay affecting microtransactions and pay-to-win mechanics. While this was NEVER THE INTENTION, we did think a soft-currency tied player progression system would work well. We acknowleadge that the way this was presented was fairly confusing and so we are happy to remove it while we review better progression systems.
------

GamesIndustry.biz article - July 7, 2022
Quotes from:
Blackbird Chief Operations Officer Eric Torin
Blackbird Interactive CEO Rob Cunningham
------
"But upon releasing it to Early Access, the community was very clear that they were concerned about any kind of pay-to-win scenario, or that we might have a paywall between a player and key units."

In response, Blackbird announced last week that it was removing the store section of the game entirely and promised that all units will always be available immediately to all players, with no unlocking for gameplay-affecting items of any kind. The studio still plans to release downloadable content for the game, but not in the form it had been planning.

"There was a lot of internal discussion about what was appropriate and what was possible in the monetization space," Torin says. "We didn't want to forego the potential of MICROTRANSACTIONS, etc., because that is something that's very much part of the Crossfire IP as a first-person shooter. But we weren't sure about how it would land with the community, and that's partly why we thought Early Access would be a good way to test what was possible. But because the response from the community was so aligned with 'Please don't do this,' we decided to make the change and roll it out as fast as we could."
------

IN SHORT: The devblog says micro transactions were never the intention, but the COO / CEO say micro transactions were part of the original plan, which was abandoned after feedback. Thanks for listening.

The early missions are painful with small chunks of RTS wedged inbetween painful storyline exposition without any kind of skip your forced to watch again and again. As you learn the games units and controls and struggle with stupid AI, you die and watch the same cinematics again. Needs FAST FORWARD like X-MORPH!

The first level reminds me of Syndicate more than anything, which is not a bad thing. I'm open to variety in levels, scale, gameplay, etc.

I had to play against the AI (PvP) to get a feel for the game before completing campaign mission 2 because the repetition was killing me.

=======================
= PLAYER VS PLAYER & AI =
=======================

I never see any lobbies or players so haven't tried PvP. I'm Oceania. There were supposed to be changes coming to improve this... not sure what they are.

The ability to play against AI is there even though the wording and UI can be confusing and is not available for all game types.

A quicker way to get a feel for the overall game then the campaign. But again the bad AI / path finding ruins it. Why go so far with graphics, sound, units, etc and not bother with decent path finding.

raztnu
raztnu

The AI is stupid, very. Defenses are shit, in other similar games the defenses are a challenge to overcome. Very few Maps, very. The way the unites engage is very boring. I don't know, good design but that is all. I got bored after a few games.

You don't get the excitement or joy you get from other similar games like Red Alert of Command Conquer Generals.

It's boring!!!

UncleClimax
UncleClimax

Hi team.

I still can't get a 1v1 because I'm in Oceania.

I can't find any option to remove region lock and automatch searches endlessly for a PVP game.

TelecomAlive

I have played the game since it came out, it has been a rough start but the dev's are very responsive and listen to the communities feedback, it is progressing at a slower speed than I think most players would like, but this RTS has a lot more potential than most *NEW* RTS I would say these days (coming from StarCraft background for over 20 years)

The game has a lot of potential and the new updates keep making the meta more interesting, I hope for more continued support and more promotion so the ladder / player count increases, overall a great game. Will be better once the player count is bigger.

Vampire Crabs

Since this game is in early access I'll review it over time with periodic updates. I have been an rts gamer since the 90s starting with warcraft 2/starcraft 1 and branching out to other franchises like c&c, aoe, sup com, dawn of war, battle for middle earth, and some indie titles. I heard about this game via a sponsored article for like ign or something. I'm also signed up for the frost giant beta. Point is - I love the rts genre. Since it's hanging on by a thread, I'm down to try anything.

INITIAL REACTIONS:
The following reflects 2.5 hours played and completed act 1 of the campaign on normal.

Pros:
-controls are intuitive as they are basically the same design philosophy of all blizzard rts games.
-runs well on my potato PC (for reference this pc was made to play borderlands 2 on ultra settings. it's that old.)
-sound effects are appropriate, not overwhelming or underwhelming. acknowledgement voice-lines could be more varied/not trigger with every input.
-the main menu navigation is clear and uncluttered.

Cons:
-loading times are longer than I'd like, could be my computer, could be lack of optimization. In any case it's unclear because it will show 100% but a 5 minute countdown timer?
-clicking on a specific unit from the group select deselects all others which is not ideal when i'm trying to use individual unit abilities in succession. I was trying to avoid making a ctrl group for every unit type.
-it's not always very clear what's happening at any given moment in a campaign level. It can be annoying to lose half your units before you realize what's even killing you, particularly stage hazards like spotlights that shoot missiles, or no indication of how long a turret is "hacked" until it starts shooting you again.
-too many units with abilities can be overwhelming. consider making more abilities toggle to auto-cast or simply be passive.
-often I find myself supply blocked by the blue resource while I have more orange resource than i'll ever need. With no way to increase my blue resource income it bottlenecks my ability rebuild and thus play the game and you never want your player waiting around for something to do. Consider adding a main base ability to convert one resource to the other (perhaps inefficiently and/or with a significant cooldown) so i can get back into the action faster. Let me die not from hunger, but in combat!

UPDATE 1:
I'm now 4.5 hours played and completed act 2 of campaign on normal difficulty. Due to size limitations i will delete redudant feedback from initial review.

Pros:
-I continue to be impressed by the usage of recognizable VO's (Global Risk leader is Adam "I never asked for this" Jensen himself! Instant

Looked like a promising new rts. I saw how they removed the shop for the units and went to buy it on sale.

Well, the campaign UI won't start, like at all. I've tried different resolutions, refresh rates, windowed mode, etc and nothing. I am stuck staring at a skyscraper with music playing and seeing my ui flash quickly before vanishing.

From someone who loves RTS campaigns, I'm forced to leave a thumbs down and refund because the game will not start for me.

Unfortunate :(

Decent rts, I've quite enjoyed it so far. Looks simple at first but a decent bit of strategy and tactics reveals itself as you play. Despite the minor jank that comes with early access, I have hope in the future of this rts. Hopefully modding support will come in addition to the already released mapmaker.

a_honecker
a_honecker

At it´s current stage the game feels really not like a C&C or Starcraft. The campain for an example feels a bit unorganized and stressed pushing you from one corner to the next, not give you any time to get yourself familiar with the gameplay or situation. The graphics is ok but nothing special. I also would sayit´s too basic in my taste. Feels like a mobile phone game somehow.

happyNMak

Frankly utter trash. gave it a chance - devs need to move jobs into a sector they understand. not peddle something which is frankly never going to work. if you cant understand why this game wont work, move to another genre.
Refunded.

its rare to see an rts come along that feels/plays somewhat similar to SC2. enjoying it alot so far. there are some small early access bugs tho.

Frozensoldier

I feel like this game has alot to learn on the road to becoming a solid RTS title. Does it have potential though? Absolutely!
This game feels entertaining at its core and the unit mashups are pretty good. I don't personally care for the deckbuilding idea that this game supports but i think if they did away with the "earned units" idea of gameplay, it could easily become a staple for this title and part of the regular strategy behind it.
The pathing is horrible and there are far too few maps to keep me playing for days on end currently but its day 1 of early access and i'm sure that will be remedied very soon.
This game shows alot of promise and I can't wait to see what the future holds for it.

Fathom

Awful. They lock units behind a paywall, gameplay has horrible balance issues, there's a bunch of "commander abilities" that the game is focused around, and that's not even mentioning the bugs and very rough gameplay feel.

This game is pretty awesome! there are some bugs and balance issues but the overall gameplay is very fun, a bit like star craft 2 and command and conquer. For a beta its very fun and i do hope that new content come soon because it does kinda feel bare right now.

This game is a absolute giant of a new RTS it has every thing you could ask for: a good story, fantastic voice acting, excellent graphics, an absolute beast of a soundtrack and a gameplay that feels just so nice to control. if your wondering what it feels like to play it is as if starcraft meets red alert 3 with a dash of tiberium wars

This game is a little rough around the edges but it has great promise, I recommend buying it and keeping an eye on updates.

It's clearly taken a lot of inspiration from Starcraft but is definitely its own game.

For goodness sake this is early access game and it is one very good rts, it needs of course many improvements with the units has a work to do and more content but needs time of course. It is a very good rts game and we need more rts so i say buy it without hesitation.

In a word terrible game. Asking for a refund immediately.

Terrible Gameplay, Animation, Missions etc. It looks like a MVP than Early Access Game. I would say zero fun playing it.

I originally refunded this when I couldnt find anyone to play with online because I'm region locked to oceania and not many people play yet, but I bought it again because I actually craved playing it again. It's pretty good but obviously in early access. Haven't enjoyed an RTS since starcraft 2 and I played a LOT of starcraft 2. Please unlock regions developers I really want to play multiplayer but I'll have to play vs AI for now.

Hard facts first:
- no micro transactions
- progress via soft currency to unlock unit-/commander-alternatives for the three factions
- campaign is not complete yet (see roadmap)

This game is no clear recommendation. It’s more about what I assume it could become: An easy to get into RTS with b-Movie aesthetics like the old C&C games.

The game has it flaws as of yet which are for example:
- pathfinding issues for your units
- wacky latencies in online matches
- lack of variation in certain gamemodes (especially coop)

But it also has it strengths:
- b-movie style campaign with diverse missions
- welll thought base-building/-upgrading mechanic
- limited army size, which is good because of the meaningfull unit-abilities
- some cool commander-actions (some other need work to catch up)

In general the game has a solid foundation to give us a an old-school RTS which is not SC2 or CoH. I like these two too, but sometimes I need something more lightweight like C&C Generals back in the day and this one definitly fills the gap.

Try it, and refund it if you are unsure, but give it a chance and don’t let it die early.

(Review will be Updated in the future)

Crossfire: Legion takes the best concepts of the best RTS games and mix them together to make an easy yet complex game where your customized army battles against other armies.

There are three factions each one has its own gimmick that makes them unique.

Black List: Invisibility and Guerrilla warfare makes this faction excelent if you want to harrash your opponents.
Global Risk: Unit after unit, this faction produces units nonstop to overwhelm the enemy.
New Horizon: My favourite, big high tech units that bring down armies alone. Use this faction if you want to feel powerful

The game overall is very good, it's easy to learn, the matches are quick (between 10-20 minutes on average) and the custom armies makes it fresh every match.

Graphics are decent, at the moment it lacks some visual effects but we have to see how it evolves.
The soundtrack is functional, we don't have any song that could be considered a master piece like in the 90's but it does it job.
Bugwise the game is very polished for an rts. There are some bugs with physics and pathfinding that could hinder the game if left like this but at the same time too specific to ruin your experience.

The matchmaking does its job, but at the moment there are too few people playing the game to detect problems with it.

The game has potential and right now needs a bigger community the most. We will have to see in the coming months if the game delivers, but looking at the recently released roadmap the game promises if everything goes as expected.

Final score: 8/10 Pretty solid, needs more advertisement and more time.

The game definitely has potential, there probably needs to be some design changes and balance patches, but regardless the game performs pretty well , the map aesthetic looks good.

If you want to help mold the game you should just give them your feedback, otherwise you are just going to wait for Frost Giant which may or not be good.

Forgotten
Forgotten

It is alright.

- The unit preset system, which allows players to pick their composition before the game is very promising.
- Gameplay fundamentals are there and work pretty well - unit control definitely feels better than some other recently released RTS titles.
- At the moment, players can't change the keybindings. As far as I am aware, this will be implemented later on.

Currently, the main drawback is severe lag, which might happen during online matches. It seems like the game has some issue with either servers or lag handling.

Gamerman08
Gamerman08

This game is a decent experience all in all. It not perfect in any sense, but its definitely not as bad as some other reviews make it out to be. Yes, not all units are available at launch. You need to unlock them by spending in-game currency that can be earned solo. I'm not sure why that is a deal-breaker for some people, but to say the whole game is trash because of that is a little premature. Some of these negative reviews are from accounts with less than an hour in the game, some less than 25 mins. I need to put a little more time into the game myself to be fair, but I feel like this game is being review bombed but I can't find the reason why.
There are things that need to be polished up, there are some very valid criticisms with this game right now, but telling people that the game is a scam seems pretty unfair to me at this point.
If you are on the fence about picking it up, my advice is to watch this game for a few weeks and see what the developers do. It just came out in early access, lets give them a chance to make some changes that the community asks for, and see how it goes from there. Fingers crossed.

Dahlian
Dahlian

I think it is a solid rts with potential.

It uses more of a deck system to customize your army. To unlock those units you need to earn soft currency which can be earned against AI or pvp. The amount of currency you get is quite generous so doesn't take long to unlock what you want.

The devs have stated they don't have any plans to add microtransaction or premium currency in the game, hopefully that will remain true.

Graphics and sound design are a little generic but executed well with high quality animation, special fx and meaty explosions. Though it does seem they have opted for more responsiveness than fluid animation, as sometimes units will snapp out of their animation cycle when given a new order, which is quite noticable. Not a dealbreaker for me personally thought.

Balance is a bit up in the air as the game just launched and I am sure will be adjusted during it's lifespan.

In pvp there are a couple of pitfalls, most of the games I've played have had lag. There is also for some bizarre reason region locking on automatch, which for a niche genre as RTS is a pretty bad idea. Hopefully the devs will fix this.

I will edit this as things change and I get more time with the game, but the base gameplay especially pve and campaign seems solid. The game is early access after all.

Ace Ventura
Ace Ventura

So far the games isn't awful but definitely some things they need to work on. For instance I'm on campaign second mission and its difficult and there are NO checkpoints you have to start the whole mission over when you fail and its quite long. Tbh the graphics are like from 2008 they could use a serious overhaul but not awful. All in all its a fun game that needs ALOT of work still, your men and vehicles get confused sometimes when you advance forward and then try to back them up some when you see an enemy and that gets annoying. I've lost a'lot of units on level 2 because of it. But i do recommend this game cause it isn't bad just needs work lets just hope they fix it all.

Cream Chipped Beef
Cream Chipped Beef

Major Issues:
-Basic path-finding for units (get stuck behind other units or boxed in completely, never seen it this bad in a modern RTS)
-Severe lack of units
-Additional units need to be unlocked
-Units need balancing (Aircraft unlocked at base tier 3 can be easily shot down by basic infantry / base defenses cant stop basic waves of enemies)

Pros
-Something new, plot seems interesting
-Base building has potential

Will return after alpha to monitor progress

For the developer:
-Game looks great, the art style is smooth, voice acting is great
-Consider tiered upgrades for base defenses/turrets
-Heavily rebalance unit damage
-Have BOTH aircraft and land vehicle factories available at tier 2
-Fix the pathfinding
-Add more buildable units to all three factions
-re-examine the difficulty on that COOP mission, the population cap makes fighting waves of titans too difficult to maintain a supply of forces fast enough to take them down, even with 3 "experienced" players

Getsu

Good concept. Decent first campaign act. High-level PvP isn't in the best state, but the game is fun. Do not expect a full game during early access. Act 1 of 5 (I think) will take an hour to a few depending on difficulty and skill level. Enjoyable cutscenes, good gameplay, surprise twist. Lacks some direction at times; be careful on the third (train rescue) mission, if you aren't paying attention you'll lose all your units to a bombing run. Do not look at store if you want to play campaign first, you will see a spoiler. PvP has enough content to enjoy co-op and casual matches. Competitive has some issues, so may not enjoy 1v1 auto match, at the time of this review, but I expect Devs to fix issues.

Outlier90
Outlier90

I am a big fan of RA2 and SC2 and it pains me to say this but I am really not enjoying this game.

Unit pathing is terrible. There are no unit formations or options to use them. For a game that is supposed to be low on micro management I found myself constantly making sure my armies could move close enough to the enemy so that all of the units could shoot. If I auto attacked an area unsupervised my whole army would be destroyed with the faster units running to their deaths and the slower units lagging behind. I would expect this from older games but it is 2022 and I am still having to micro manage more than I did in SC2 back in 2010.

There is no ability to change the hotkeys, this was a big issue for me as the campaign focused a lot on commander abilities which for some reason they have hard-coded to Alt-W and Alt-E (absolutely terrible hot key idea) and you cant change it in the options menu. I found myself constantly having to click the screen to give commands rather than use hot keys which is an RTS gamer's worst nightmare.

The campaign mode has no checkpoints or ways to save. I played on Normal difficulty and had to replay the second mission 4 times in a row because my units kept dying and I did not have a base. That mission in particular felt way harder than it should have compared to the missions before and after, and it would have been nice to add at least a checkpoint so players don't have to keep playing the mission over again in it's entirety.

I can tell they were going for a mix of SC2 and RA2 in the game, and while the overall game play is similar to those games, Crossfire: Legion just feels like a cheap knockoff of both of them when it comes to the gameplay itself and the lack of QoL features. Maybe they will fix these issues in the future but I am refunding the game until then.

Good game, but need some balance in fractions and optimization. All in game unit can be buyed easy with pve mode and campaing.

agento

1. This is not pay to unlock or pay to win
2. It has coop - matches vs AI etc. it is all there
3. DO not listen to the bad reviews who have played the game less than an hour

Multiplayer of any kind is real fun to play, its totally engaging, all time action on all fronts. Maybe it is not for some people who like 20 min "No Rush", so they complain about the Unit Cap. However you can do that in Custom games and raise the Unit cap to 300 if you like.

If you followed competitive RTS you can see the potential in the Loadouts, you can check it at start of the game with Backspace. Then you have to know the "Meta" , what works best and counter it obvjously. It has never been different in RTS games. So your cries for balance and OP ness should not go into your steam review of the game, but in the feedback corner you can give to the devs.

One example in a 40 minute match on the frost map, we took all bases from each other, switched from Infantry to Mech to Air and back again several times, and in the end the guy with most resources won, but it felt like you can really concentrate on the game and NO BUGS or lags have prevented me from focusing on the game itself. I mean, in recent RTS games there were bugs that broke the game for some people, or crashes... which i never encountered so far.

You even get to influence the developement of this game yourself, play it and deliver feedback for the devs in the google survey. So Balance, and more maps WILL be done at some point, if you feel it is a no go for you, give the devs some balance feedback. That's how the RTS game you love so much got their balance, after YEARS.

The game is nice enough so far. However, as we speak some dickhead keeps pausing the game or he holds the key down. He wants me to leave.
First fix of the game. Only 3 pauzes each match with a minute countdown before the opponent can unpause it. Because this is just fucking ridiculous.

The game is fun beside that.

Game definitely needs more time in oven, no denying that. Unit pathing is wonky, animations can be glitchy, no way to rebind controls. But in terms of gameplay, what's present in this version is a solid foundation to build upon. Most of my gripes with the game can be easily adjusted as the development continues.

That said, I do believe that some core aspects of game/UI design carried over from Starcraft just because they were in Starcraft. Like building supply depots to increase pop cap. Or small unit queue. Or horizontal UI. Like, what's the deal with that? 16:9 screens became mainstream at least 10 years ago and we're still sacrificing horizontal space for UI. Bro please.

I do like this game, from thew outside i can see that people have problems with the play 2 unlock things, but on the other hand i have to say, that so you are forced to use some units you may wouldn't have considered to use and maybe you like it, and tbh its like maximal 8 or 9 won bot games to unlock the most expensive item for your faction, and these ain't better then the 1 you already have, they are just different.

i do like the smaller maps and gameplay compared to SC2, even though i love SC2 in PvP it was always so draining, cause there was just so much, which isn't bad at all, its just that you have to consider way more things, also i like that there are not really units (at least as far as i have seen and i havent seen everything and play primaily "New Horizon". There aitn really units that are completely useless in late game (like the Adept from protoss in Starcraft 2 which is only really used in scouting or in extremely cheesy not atm really viable tactics(as far as i know)). It's just fun to play overall.

Definetily an recommendation, since the game feels responsive (not like AoE4 sadly) but isn't too overhelming, since the armies ain't that big in late game.

Better love story than Dune

Since I played Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, I had my eye on Blackbird for if/when they would release their next title, so I caught this one right on early access. This is almost like when you find out about a music band, and you really like them, and buy their next album, regardless of how good it turns out. In this case, this is not really their next album, more like their next single.

Overall, I believe that BBI have stepped up their game. The art style and overall production quality are reminiscent of Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, which is a good thing. However, the content delivered here is very little, so let me elaborate. I will also shorten the game names to "Homeworldy" and "Crossfiry" ... you guys, and your long trademarks.

This has been fun, I have enjoyed my (short) experience. The game seems overall quite dynamic. I made an army of tanks and ... whaddoyouknow! my soldiers found their way through my own damn tanks. My impression of the game performance is outstanding [1]. My praises go to the developers.

Like I said I had fun, but not everyone is like me. There is way less content here than in Homeworldy: take the approx. 11.5 hours it took me to finish the Homeworldy campaign, versus the 1.5 hours that took me finish this Act 1 of Crossfiry. Like I said: way less.

Most of the potential play time, as it seems, is moved to the skirmish games. The game has this system which allows you to unlock new units as you win skirmishes, which reminds one of the way that units are unlocked with each mission of a campaign. This is OK, because we are allowed to progress and unlock units while playing VS. the AI. However, there's not much to do here either. After X hours of skirmishes vs. AI, I will have unlocked all units of my faction, and that will be that.

There are basic, fundamental features that in my opinion are essential for the single-player experience and learning curve, which are missing:
- Save games (FFS!).
- Replays (also known as "demos" in Dota 2/Counter Strike).
- Time analysis of game: total game time (FFS!), evolution of economy over time, evolution of army over time, timestamps ...
- Zoom out, also known as "sensor map" in Homeworldy.

I am not going to criticise the multiplayer experience [2] (many others will do it for me). Let's just say that Crossfiry has a very small team behind it, and they cannot tackle the insurmountable task of implementing even a small fraction of the features needed for a competitive multiplayer game.

[1] There is no built-in benchmark, and no replay capability, so it is not easy to give an accurate measurement of the average FPS that you can expect in a reasonably crowded battle scenario. Here are the results that I got, and the scenarios that I used:
Crossfiry: 94.1, Homeworldy: 83.2, Dota 2: 125.5 FPS.
- On Crossfiry, 10 minutes into a skirmish game, when armies are reasonably big and fighting each other. 5 Minutes of gameplay.
- On Homeworldy, 10 minutes into the final scenario of the campaign (Khar Toba), 5 minutes of gameplay. No big battles are easily happening on skirmishes there. DXVK (translation from DirectX to Vulkan) give a steady 144 FPS during cinematics, but may get as low as 30 FPS in a battle.
- Game 4 of the finals of Dota 2 Major in Stockholm, 24 May 2022, 19 minutes in, 6 minutes of gameplay.
All games maxed graphical settings, all run on the same PC.

[2] We know that the overwhelming majority of RTS players will stick to the single-player campaign, and we have many ways to quantify that.
Take the RTS games in Steam that have achievements for "your first online skirmish" and how spectacularly low that percentage is, compared to "play the tutorial" or "play mission X of the campaign". Oh and by the way, what percentage of Homeworldy players got any of the multiplayer achievements?
Take latest Age of Empires 4, and their advertised 50 hours of campaign content, in the form of history docummentary.
Take the majority of positive Homeworldy reviews, and how they mostly praise the storytelling of the campaign.
Take the last poll results from Crossfiry, the overwhelming response for "more content" and realize that there was no option in the poll for "more campaign content".

Crossfire Legion is a very promissing Early Access Real Time Strategie game.

While you can clearly see, that it is still early Access, since there are only 1-2 maps per gamemode, only 4 Missions from the campain, some known buggs, occasional pathfinding issues and obiously a big imbalanced gamestate, you can still see a great RTS game under all the EA-issues.

The sound and presentation is phenominal, starting to fight small skirmishes with a few infantery troops at the start of the game, and ending in huge endgame battles with huge titans facing each other, feels really amazing and while the presentation of the campain can of course not keep up with a title like StarCraft 2, who was developed by a huge developer compared to the developers from Crossfire Legion, it still made a very good first impression on me. The factions and the world they play in look really interesting to me, and im exiting to find out how the story continues once the next missions will be released.
Even certain areas that i dont care about to much in most games, like the UI of the menus, look really good - it has some form of "class" for the lack of a better world, that put me into a good "grove" even when im just browsing through the menus to select my next game. You can clearly see that the developers deeply care about making the best game possible with the team that they have and i can only compliment them! I am exited to see, how they can further improve this game!

But i also have to adress some elefants in the room.

First of all: The game has an ingame shop! I dont know if this was planned as a form of pay2win monetary system, that got so much critique that they removed it already even before it went to the Early Access state, or if the current implementation was really what they always were going for, but what remains is that at the start of the game you can only play with certain commanders (that give you hero-like Abilities) and units and if you want to play with the rest, you have to buy them first from the shop.
The currency is a pure-ingame currency, which means, that you get it from simply playing the game and fullfilling mission but NOT from having to use real money to buy it. And the ingame currency is very fair so far. I could buy every single unit that you could buy at this time after only 5 hours of playtime. But the question remained why they implemented this shop in the first place. Since you can only select 7 Units that you get from a kind of "unit-deck" having all units dont give you a nessesary advantage against a opponent that doesnt have all units yet, since every player will always have only 7 fighting units-kinds that they can send into battle, but it gives them more options. But non the less this is in my opinion not a good system. Limiting new players from using the units they want to use, and forcing them to unlock them by making missions just doesnt feel like something that really fits into an RTS game. And i can totally understand why it makes many players mad, even though its not a big deal yet.

I just hope that the developers react to the massiv bad taste that this ingame shop left on many players. While unlocking stuff and having daily missions can be a very rewarding game mechanic and i like the idea that the developers trying to implement it a bit into the game, i would be way more happy if the rewards are purely cosmetic in nature, like a cool banner, a profile picture or possibly unit-skins. I think by doing this you could have the players engaged into coming back the next days to finish some missions to get cool stuff without loosing people who dont want to play a game for a certain amound of hours, before they can play with the units they want to play.

Well and the other Elefant is...its an Early Access game with all its issues! As i have mentioned before, with only 1-2 maps per gamemode, and only 4 campain missions the game really lacks content to keep the majority of players engaged in the game. And since it is just released and no developer can enticipate what broken tactics players can come up with, it is save to say that there will be still many tactics, and unit-combinations who are just to strong and can be horribly abused. One tactic that understandibly gets into the nervs of many players is a rush tactic, in which you build your barracks, (from which you build your basic infantery units) on the other side of the map, next to the base of the enemy, to surprise him early on with many units that will kill him even though the game only started 2-3 minutes ago. So you simply have to expect that there are many overly strong tactics in this game, who dont create the most exiting games. But its nessessary that every RTS game goes to a phase of balancing before a state of the game is created, that creates fun games for the majority of the playerbase.

So all in all i can say that i am really exited about the game, and how it will turn out in the future. But you have to keep in mind that this is an early Access RTS and should be seen as such! Dont buy this game and expect a nicely balanced, fully developed game. If this is what you are looking for, then wait for a while but please keep an eye out for it, because i am sure, that it will be an amazing RTS once it is fully developed.

I would say to give it a try, if the idea to try out an RTS in its early stages is an idea that pleases you, to help the developers find issues when it comes to balance, or buggs they havent found etc. If you like the idea to be a part of the making of an RTS title then i would recommend to give it a try, enjoy the chaos that comes with an RTS game in its early stages and help making the game into a fun state for everyone. I personally enjoy every minute i have played it so far, and i am exited about the many more to come!

This is a great SC2 + C&C mixed RTS game, which makes you learn the game by making you play and earn this soft currency, which lets you buy a different unit for each slot (7 unit + commander slot).
The map designs are more of SC2 inspired, the units more of c&c.
there are multiple builds, and it feels well paced, and also tactical.
I am great at losing in this, tho I've won a few hardfought battles already, and am improving in a nice pace, hope to give my opponents a hard time
strong 7/10, and if they tend to the game based on some feedback, it can be so much more

Feels like a modern cross of C&C & Terran-based Starcraft
Immersive, good graphics, fun and easy to pick up.

The factions offer a bit of variety, and the card load out system is interesting.
The starting commanders and units are powerful.
More unit and commander options would be great.

Earning the in-game currency feels fair and rewarding.
It is earned by playing games and achieving objectives, you can't spend money to skip or get more.

The campaign is very short (First act, takes only a few hours to finish) but the quality is good.
if the rest of the missions are similar, it will be good value.

The game mode variety is good, the AI is serviceable, to get started.
Overall, I'm interested to see where this goes.

Pretty good, fun RTS!

As a veteran Rts gamer i was really hoping that this game will be great, it has potential but, whoa, are the developers nowadays really knowing what are they doing.
Why do they think that starcraft hybrid is a good approach.
You have Dawn of war 3 that tried the same but look where they are now.
Nobody wants a starcraft hybrid, if you want to play starcraft just download it at they're website it is free.
The combat is dull and unsatisfying, zero strategy. Make a blob of units and sen to combat another blob of units, if you have lightning reflexes with the keyboard you win, you do not have to think.
the units look like red alert 3, and boy the animations and movement of infantry is hilarious. The units are extremely large in comparison with the environment, the infantry look like giants and the mechanized units are as big as a 3 story-building.
And the sound effects are like from a 1995 game.
The game has the stupid unit cap to 200, and what is more disappointing is that you need a special currency to unlock the units to play them, hahahah, no body has time for that.
We just have to agree that the rts genre died with C&C 3 tiberium wars and Supreme Commander.
I do not recommend to anyone this game to spend your hardworking money.

Guys, I have to post this as a counter balance to the negative knee-jerk responses. This is a very good promising RTS game. We are NOT getting major release RTS games any more because of this attitude in the reviews. The game store is not a final feature, it is just an option to enhance your play style. It is not pay to win. The game is evolving and still technically in development, don't just judge things that can easily be changed and expanded on by chasing the RTS fans away with negativity. We aren't even completely sure if Frost Giant is committed to an RTS, and if they see this kind of feedback on a good game, why would they bother. Support RTS , support the devs!

Is this game the next starcraft? No. But it is an RTS that feels decent to control and unlike recent slow as molasses games that is a breath of fresh air. The game balance and meta is still developing and it is pretty fun. Also people say there is a store, there really isn't its a FREE progression system, takes like a day to unlock everything in the game and you will be playing 1 faction most likely so that can be unlocked in an hour or so of custom games. Also the base units you start with are plenty fine. Don't listen to people saying you have to buy anything in game, they don't understand. fun game.

This game is fun. A decent set of missions where, though it's not super intriguing, the characters act professional. With that, neat units that differ greatly in play style. The style, co-op missions, Act 1, etc are pretty damn fun. It's the first in a while a game has made me just enjoy myself and I needed that.

Minor gripes I would have are animations (please make slightly less cartoony for the tone/vibe you are going for). Better infantry against vehicles and lower their cap cost for some of them. Finally, bigger maps. It seems more Generals and Red Alert 3 than C&C with it's style and gameplay, but C&C would've fit here way better,

Develop your universe more. It'll require a little more creativity, but fit it in with the missions if you can. What is Global Risk like towards their own people and others? Is Blacklist a moral faction or do they have their own demons? Let's see them show something of either (mission 3 doesn't count, since those were their people, if I'm not mistaken.)

There are FAR more positives than negatives, but

SugarKhaine

This isn't ready yet. It feels like it's barely past alpha and trying to sell itself as a paid product.

The economy is like SC2 but the combat is that weird quirky style of CNC3 -- which doesn't reward you for pumping out infantry because you can get AOE'd down very easily, so you start the game by twiddling your thumbs and workers around. And there's a lot of polish missing - broken UI and buttons in the campaign. That's not even getting to the unit unlock system which is a real hype killer and even if it isn't paid with money, generates fear of future MTX -- unit loadouts are fine, being forced to grind for them in a RTS setting is where you want strategy to be the determining factor; not unlocks, that barrier to entry gets in the way.

There's potential here but there's no way I'd pay this much for what is currently available.

Nomadic_09
Nomadic_09

After spending approximately 12 hours with the game, I have to say, I see some potential with it. It still has some rough edges with respect to the unit path finding and balance, but that is sort of expected at this stage. The sound effects are cool, the voice acting is quite decent, and the factions seem cool.

Having said that, at the game's current stage, I feel that some of base building and teching is a bit too simple. Virtually all units have a single, specific upgrade to them which sometimes feels a little extraneous. Most of the unit upgrades are interesting enough, but some feel like they were put for the sake of simply having an upgrade (e.g. the Javelin armor upgrade). Moreover, researching upgrades doesn't feel like too big of a commitment so naturally you'll find yourself getting them all by the mid to late game.

Which brings me to my next point. Maybe I am really bad at the game, but I find myself having far too many resources banked up. I try to be aggressive and keep my units active, but no matter aggressive I play I just always have extra resources. Building a new army as my enemy comes barreling towards me isn't a major issue either. It just feels a little strange and maybe unfair. There is a unit cap to the game so simply making more when you're maxed isn't an option. Maybe they could put some kind of penalty such that if your stockpile gets too high, your workers start collecting at a reduced rate. Or maybe make units more expensive. I'm just spit-balling ideas.

Another piece of feedback to the devs, the combat lacks some nuance. Although not completely so, I feel some of the time I can get away with winning games by simply zerging hard. There aren't too many situations where I need to micro my units carefully (other than dumping all my abilities in a fight). Maybe there should be some units that are designed to easily deal with grouped up enemies (so as to discourage players from making giant deathballs; something similar to the High Templar from SC II). I know that easier said than done, but it would really shake up the game in a nice way.

Having said all that, I still do think this game has the potential to shine. It's awesome that you can select which units you want before beginning the battle. Pre-planning before playing is an interesting idea and I'd like to see where that goes. Some themes for the factions like Black List's use of stealth and ambushing is really fun and I enjoy that mechanic a lot. Global Risk units seem to be designed to work in groups that compliment each other well. e.g. shield troopers taking the front and having some kind of artillery in the back. I could go on but I think you get the idea.

Please don't be so quick to judge the game. I noticed many reviewers hadn't even played the game for more than an 1 hour and already they are writing scathing reviews. I doubt you could get any understanding of the game in such short time; even for veterans too. Doesn't seem justified to me and I really do hope the devs make this into a great game. I've been dying for another fast paced RTS!

At first glance it looks like this game is pay to win with an EA style storefront. If you decide to play for more than 20 minutes though, you'll realize how quickly you get points just by playing. So no, this game is NOT pay to win. although the macro mechanics are very basic, unit interactions and micro is quite fun and complex.

This game is really good, especially for an early access game. I highly recommend it to any C&C fan. It has major C&C vibes. Given that we have no idea if EA will do any more C&C, this is easily the next best thing. For early access, its in a highly enjoyable state. The card loadout system is a bit unique. I feel like it needs to be expanded to 9 or 10 units so you can add in one or two highly specialized units. But for $29.99 (basically hafl the price similar RTS games have launched at), its an awesome deal...one they will continue to expand on as the game moves toward official launch.

I dont like to entertain review bombs. Its ridiculous. But I felt I need to speak to the in game currency and unit unlocks. It's not a big deal at all. There are achievements call Operations that reward plenty of currency. Within less than 8 hours of completing Operations, I had almost entirely unlocked 2 factions. By the time I was used to the base units and gameplay, I had a bunch more unlocked to try. Maybe that was the point of it all. Operations cycle every week too.

Game needs a skirmish mode for VS the AI and the cooperative needs a private match system so its easier to invite friends instead it uses a matchmaking system for coop. Other than that the game is kinda bland just feels like a cheap copy of command and conquer and doesn't do anything unique or interesting to be worth $29.99 this to me is more a free or at best a $9.99 game. Not also happy that another early access title contains an ingame store to purchase units locked behind a paywall.

Not dank enough for C&C, not unique enough for SC, just bland enough for another generic RTS that will be forgotten in a year.

Story so far: imagine those B-rated Sci-Fi movies with bad acting and predictable plots? Legion is all that but in a game format. Commanders are boring and only there to accommodate abilities. They are a far cry from fun and campy C&C characters.

Gameplay wants to be Starcraft, but the factions are quite similar compared to the differences between Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss. It also doesn't help that you must select unit roster beforehand which limits your options in-game. That means that you will always operate with less unit types.

TL; DR: the devs are trying to reinvent the wheel without even knowing how the wheel is supposed to work. Do not buy at this current time. Wait and see what happens.

Can't wait to see how good it is.

[Below here is my original review on 31.5.22]

Aside from the bad store and progression and soft-currency design.

This game has potential, When I start playing I feel at home again cuz this game is CnC and SC have a baby.
If you know how to play those two you will have a good time in this. And if you have high pc specs that a plus too with glory 60 fps++

I recommend to give it a try if you're fan of RTS and especially CnC or SC.

Still, the bad in-game store is big elephant right now.
But if you ask me it's not the store that bad, it's the soft currency.
I don't know who like grinding but not me.
If soft currency price in store is cheaper than this, maybe most player can bear it a little.

I will watch this game closely, I really want this game to shine man.
Don't waste those potential on some bad design, please.

Although I had many big hopes for this title and being myself a very big fan of RTS genre at this point I am willing to give this one a thumb up only for being ...an RTS title and me being a fan :(

And currently being in EARLY ACCESS I am still having high hopes for this game to be one of the best in it's genre, but it has so many flaws at this point I don't really know where to start.

Short talk:

Please lower the difficulty as we are not playing on a contest or something, I am a veteran on Starcraft (maybe not lately but I have more than 150 hours played on battlenet between 2010-2020 or something) and still can't manage to beat the AI even on EASY mode, it just cheats and is one step ahead of me EVERY TIME. I understand you may try to get this title to be challenging, but if you are copying Starcraft, please copy it well at least :(

As for the in game currency, story and path finding, terrible. Why do you need an in game currency? I (as well as others hope it's not for other many as it would be a very bad idea!!). I just hope there will be some major updates that will repair this title eventually.

Of course the graphics are nice, I am running it very well on an 3060TI but the card stays on load at 70-80% most of the time, I am pretty sure there can be improvements for the engine as well.

Please guys, don't disappoint, you can still make this title GREAT, you just need hard work as well as guidance from the community. Good luck!

Though this game has the fundamentals to maybe become the next great RTS, there simply isn't a big enough playerbase right now to keep it alive. I spend 5-10 minutes to find a PVP match, the unit movement is buggy and sometimes they just don't attack. Balance is poor. They needed to playtest this game more with a smaller group before making it public and asking for money. I will keep an eye on this game, but cannot recommend you spend your hard earned cash on it in its current state.

At first, i was scared to buy this game after looking at the reviews, but i decided to experience it anyways. I liked the gameplay, my fav units are from the New Horizon faction. I am also a big fan of dune and some of background music reminded me of dune soundtrack which I felt hyped during fights.

i do understand that it is early access so i am excited for new units, commanders and maps. Also, i would love to see more building.

I was going to give it a maybe review.
Campaign cinematics are good.
level design in the campaign are almost compressed copys of Star craft 2s and C&C 3s.
Unit Design seem interesting but the stats on them don't differ much at all.
And for some reason it has a store to buy units????? and commanders?????
I expected more from Blackbird Interactive since they made homeworld deserts of kharak which was a masterpiece.
I completed the first part of the campaign in apparently 75 minutes. way too short.
The game has promise but Elements in it arnt too good.

Very similar to CnC this has a lot of potential devs needs to make sure they advertise well and update quality.

Simply put i enjoy playing the game, if you can keep an open mind-it is early access.
Few bugs here and there and there's still a lot of work to go into it

There is inspiration from Starcraft 2 which is a good thing and there are some dam fun units to play with.
its got great foundations and i cant wait to see how it progresses.

Crossfire: Legion. A new real-time strategy game...with nothing in it. I really am not happy with this game, its so disappointing. Where to start?

I suppose I'll address one of the misconceptions about the game: It's not pay-to-win, it doesn't have any purchasable currency period. It does, however, have an in-game currency earned from completing challenges, picture it like stockpiled xp that you spend on unlocking units and commanders for the existing factions, cuz that's what it is. Sounds fair enough, and considering the game looks visually like a mobile game, its expected. I don't like it, but its expected and not enough to ruin the game for me.

HOWEVER, I have no way of knowing how fair the currency rewards for the challenges are, because I couldn't complete any of them. Not because I'm bad at the game (which, I mean, I AM), but because the challenges active while I was playing required me to play in pvp, which I initially never intended to do because I hate pvp and prefer pve content in most games, but then I realized the other problem: the game is already dead. Completely empty, not a lobby in sight. Can't complete pvp challenges if there's nobody to fight.

This didn't bug me much, because "Operation Thunderstrike is a cooperative pve mode where you and up to 2 other players fight against an ai" was the thing that sold me on the game. "Up to 2 other players" my arse, the gamemode requires a full lobby to be launched, it won't let you play it solo. Great. So a campaign that takes about an hour, visuals that remind me of Command and Conquer: Rivals, pvp focus and a pve mode that can't be played. Amazing. Why was this rts made?

Onto more coherent gameplay descriptions: It feels like someone made a Red Alert 3-themed mod for Warcraft 3. The detestably-competitive "units on higher ground than you are untargetable until you get an air unit/other source of high-ground vision there" mechanic is present, nearly every unit has an active ability, units that are firing at a target become incapable of being moved by anything and act as a solid wall (and unlike blizzard's own games, Legion here lacks good pathfinding so your soldiers will just bounce back and forth trying to decide whether to try and push through their friends again or just walk around them, demanding you micro-manage them around to get their guns in range), sticky selection (where once you select something, you can't unselect it unless you select something else, meaning you never have an empty selection) is always on and has no toggle to turn it off (I realize this may be an uncommon personal gripe, but good gods is it as uncomfortable as bending a toenail to not be able to unselect units). Let's see, what else. The only currently-available singleplayer content is the still-in-development campaign, which features unskippable in-engine cutscenes, and is extremely short due to being only four relatively easy missions. I would have loved to see what else the game has to offer, but again, you can't play the game with ai, just stare at the populationless pvp and pve modes without ever launching a match because some idiot decided to release an rts without skrimish ai.

Honestly this entire review is just the pouring out of my eternal disappointment with the gaming industry's apparent hatred of the real-time strategy genre. Why can't we get a new rts that doesn't cheap out on content, doesn't clearly stink of "we'll be the next e-sport like starcraft 2, screw the vastly larger casual playerbase that gets rts games to that point in the first place!", and doesn't look like it belongs on an iphone? For the love of the gods, if you're not gonna make an rts for rts fans, then don't make an rts AT ALL.

Fun little RTS game. Don't expect to much from it as it's still EA.

Interesting game modes and apparently more are coming according to the roadmap. A lot of things need fixing or adapting but it has a solid base imo, would recommend if you want a breather from other RTS games.

With the low playerbase I highly recommend the discord to find opponents.

Looking forward to see the finished product.

The game has a really well built foundation for pvp matches. Just wait a few months for more content, its not worth 30$ just yet.

Good game. Very Command and Conquer Generals like. Hopefully it keeps growing and the DEVs stay with it (Which it seems they are). Shows lots of promise but it's already off to a great start.

This is a decent game. There has been a lot of work put into it. I grew up with Command & Conquer and Starcraft, and this game is a bit in between. Not as micro heavy as SC and not as rush heavy as C&C. Definitely a bit rough, still needs polishing but overall happy with the gameplay experience.

General Gears

Reminds me of March of War. The buying units doesn't give you a magic win unit however just gives you a different variant of unit archetypes. The game needs polish but if you like games like March of War or wanted a strategy focused Planetside 2 then this is it. For those who play planetside 2 the way I can put the factions is Black List is TR, New Horizon is VS, and the Global Risk is the NC. Basically Global risk will hurt when you get hit and can take a hit, Black List are the squishiest factions so you need more micro managing or larger numbers depending on you're playstyle, and New Horizon is a faction just to hate... Okay to be more fair, New Horizon is the most glass cannon faction out of the 3 from what i've played so far. They are hard hitters but can't take a hit. Now I haven't had much experience outside of AI and story so I can't you how each faction works against players but that is just the basic.

I will say if you like March of War you will like this game, and the only down side is there isn't as much in customizing army as their could be. But being Early access I hope more units get added so you can more specifically tune you're army to you're liking. it would also be nice to see more factions sub divisions added in the future. Where Global risk, might have a sub faction where they specialized in armored warfare or a New Horizon company specializes in Plasma instead of railguns. Even if most are cosmetic changes it would be nice.

I love this title. Even though it's so shame that it has a unit unlock system and also have less tention in attack sounds, but as RTS original fans I still love to play it now. So shame that we don't have much players to do multi match in server now. But also can find good points and thing which reminds me red alert and star craft (I think It's on the middle between this 2 titles).
Keep up black bird. you still got your chance. RTS fans are eager to play well made title after COH !

Good game, it has elements of C and C Generals, and Red Alert, but with the artwork style of homework for cut scenes. There are still some balancing issues, and the campaign is only 5 simple battles, but this could be the start of something really good. The developers I think still have a lot coming. I hope so this is a very promising starting point.
The save option seems hidden, or not allowed mid game.
I also think they jumped in a little too far in the story, I shouldn't be wiping out a major enemy base in 5 simple missions, it was over too fast. They say they will have 20 mission campaign (5 for each of the 3 factions and then the final 5 I guess. I hope they develop a more, this is too short a story arc. I know they are focusing on the multiplayer, but I hope they add more units, more story, and more maps.

A little rough yes and definitely in need of fine tuning, especially in terms of cost vs units viability. But overall i'm very very pleased with what has been shown so far. Probably better that its a early access title to allow for public feedback and to iron out issues. Needs polish but then again that's what this whole early access is about. Really looking forward to more content.

I recommend this game. But there are flaws. The biggest complaint I have right now is practicing against the AI. Im trying to read everything and learn the mechanics. The AI gives you zero time to look at anything.
Game wont allow que'ing a map solo to practice builds.

Game is very good. We needed a RTS that got back to some of the roots of RTS genre. Feels like a good mix of c&c and starcraft. Cant wait to see where those goes.

The game is primarily too expensive for what it has to offer. I have played the campaigns available so far and it is boring. I couldn't find anyone to play for an hour, but did play a few skirmishes. The game engine and the way the units move is similar to homeworld d.o.k of course where you just don't play well in non solar maps ;) . the system of drawing military cards and some commanders is a downside for me that rejected me from the game. Workers don't matter, neither do resources or race or building placement. Tactical unit placement ends up with the placement of four "catapults" and your commander's skills, but that's the fault of the card system. It feels like playing unit composition vs blind unit composition, here strategy ends, tactic of paper rock scissors unit comps included in game. I don't know, but pve gameplay with card system should be nice even for coop split into race campagins, and pvp should not nessesarily have WOW 45!!!%!@ unit compositions... but being maybe little sandbox map where two of players can use advantages and cons of their race to scout or map controll or macro whatever. So far not pushing the genre, low playerbase , high cost. I feel baited. Back to starcraft, gg. will check on updates

I did not enjoy it. Not sure what's the point of soft currency. If they want microtransactions, go for it. Don't hide it waste time of people who are searching for C&C style games.

LT STICKBOY
LT STICKBOY

this is pretty much C&C generals 2 but without EA's stupidity and people who complain about this game that there is micro transactions there isn't just play to earn the currency and buy the units and most of them are balanced, also this is early so don't complain we're just at the beginning.

Refunded it because it is no fun at the current stage of development. Maybe i give it another try in like 2-3 years. Sadly for this game Stormgate will get released meanwhile.

Sure pathing could use work. The campaign isnt terrible for 30 bucks. The factions look tight, sure the army isnt complete when you start but the devs put that in as incentive to grind and get better. This game followed in the path of the greats but innovated enough to stand out. Things I noticed this game did well to modernize the rts genre-
1.) Hud battle warnings. YES, hud. not mini map but hud which I thought was cool to help with Macro Battles.
2.) The audio design is innovative. Sure in rts and real life the fog of war can hide enemy units but it doesnt hide the sounds of their munitions going off in the distance. I've never had an rts sound design improve my immersion. Made me feel like a real commander. It reminded me that there were threats in the unknown.
3.) Unique grind system to keep you coming back. Sure youre going to get destroyed by players with better units. but a loss isnt completely a loss. You still get xp to help your grind.

All in all I don't see why there is even a thought of a down vote for this unique rts title. They did well.

Honestly, I have been playing the game for over a month and the game is in great hand. The developer have been listening to us and by every update the game has been better. The modes came out recently and they are a blast. The game is easy to learn and it had great review by a legendary Starcraft caster rotti as he even suggest to his brother. The army composition creates new and excitement as you can burn your enemy alive to cutting their throat using vampires. You can be a sneaky little spokey by going out of stealth mode to destroy your opponent.

Either ways it is an amazing game

It's entertaining and it has potential, but the community is small.

Second impression: The majority of the campaign missions are running around with a few units, get an objective done and often get hit from behind. It's getting old after a while. No healing, only limited units, lots of mobs on high vision, who can shot first at you. It's getting old after a while. The PvP, well it would be nice, if there would be enough players around to play agains. The lobby is often complete empty. It's kind of sade, the game would be fun.

Not Bad. Needs more polish but is definitely worth a play. Story element needs work, plan on being lost during ACT One, I sure was.
