Ok hear me out. I know this seems like a minecraft rip off, and in a way it kinda is, but it actually has a much different theme, different mechanics, and a lot of rage inducing crap. I originally got this game on the wii U (yes I had a wii U) because minecraft wasn't out on it yet. unIronically this is a fantastic game and brings back a lot of childhood memories of getting home from school, hopping onto the couch, and playing for hours. Some of my fondest memories. 10/10

This can be the worst cash grab you can imagine,it deletes your items thru thin air,it erased my diamonds and 250 coal while cooking some gold,
I saw 2d minecraft clones that are coded thru toasters better than this.
Gnaw on a dick.

I really like the game. It brings different experience as minecraft. It looks quite similar at the beginning, but it has a story and interesting survival mode. Plus it looks better. I love the look of the water there.
I wish they would include online multiplayer in the future. It would be cool! :)

I am enjoying this game. It is set in a handcrafted world. The fact that the game is not randomly generated is a big plus for me. I enjoy the experience of playing on a map that was made, not randomly cobbled together.

This game is single player which means unlike some similar games which are multi/singleplayer the game is actually balanced to play alone. There will not be tons of content that you just can't manage alone.

The game looks fantastic for a voxel based game and has some really nice animations. I have noticed no performance issues so far running on i7, 1050ti and 8gb ram.

If you like craft/survival games and dont mind playing alone I recommend you pick this up!

Going to keep it short and sweet, Because I always end up having steam not save my edits to try to fix my review.

Cube Life: Island Survival may look like a cheap Minecraft clone, but it actually has a lot to offer and you most likely won't find everything to create the same type of experience with Minecraft mods.

I personally believe that the Survival Mode is way better than what you'd find in MC, but everybody has different tastes. Many people think I'm just biased because I like the company, but I want to make sure you know that I really do love this game. Just look at my hours played!

Let's review the game, shall we?
...I won't waste your time, this game does not have multiplayer. Still trying to convince the developers to add it...

SURVIVAL:
MC: Randomly generated worlds with no explanation, really. There are probably quite a few goals you can come up with in this game; 100 Diamond blocks, Largest Farm, Defeat the Ender Dragon, Etc. and this game will feel pretty solid, but if you don't get any shaders you'll soon realize the graphics are... Pretty bad. The actual survival aspects are pretty good but are also very much into the medieval/fantasy side of things. With potions and other dimensions it definitely is meant for people into more magic themed games.
CL:IS: Pre-made world with lots of different sections, but before the game starts, there is a backstory as to why you're even on the island. I won't spoil it, but know it's kind of basic. It is however everything you would come to expect from a game of this sort. This game also has quite a few goals, but it's harder than Minecraft. If you like hard core survival games this one is worth a shot. This game has a thirst gauge, and much harder enemies. You can't turn off the monsters (Cannibals, in this game.) so it's a game aimed at older audiences for sure. This game also has a thirst gauge and sharks 'n' stuff.

CREATIVE:
MC: Creative mode has a ton of blocks, stairs, slabs, etc. and includes many more gimmicky things like Redstone and Pistons. Minecraft has a better Creative Mode. Without shaders, creations you build won't look as great as in CL:IS. On PC, Minecraft includes Command Blocks.
CL:IS: Has 12 pages of blocks, stairs, animals, village peoples and such, etc. but really doesn't have THAT MUCH to offer. They plan on updating the game more so hopefully we will see some improvements. They do however have Japanese styled blocks and lanterns, so that is pretty cool.

PHYSICS:
MC: I personally feel the physics are pretty clunky and stiff but I'm just weird I think.
CL:IS: You fall slowly and can see your own body in First Person view.

All in All, it really just depends on the person and I believe giving both a shot is the best option. If you are gonna buy this for your kid, I would recommend waiting on a multiplayer update and the ability to turn Cannibals off, or just an easier mode entirely.

Thank you for reading and I hope this helps!

I´ve spent a couple of hours with the game and i must say its pretty cool! I really enjoyed the survival and the creative mode as well!

Its a nice relaxing on an island after a long day at work ... unless you build a copy of your office there :D

+ nice graphics
+ crafting
+ survival guide
+ creative mode
+ i can run it even on my low end laptop!
+ singleplayer (really)

A legit good game.

"oh its literally just minecraft" No. It isn't. It's way better looking, and it adds in 100 features that you'd have to mod into minecraft. It runs smooth and doesn't crash.

I think this had the potential to be an amazing game. I love the survival elements. I love being able to see your characters body. I hope there is mp in the future, but for what it is atm, the game is great.

The mouse sensitivity is too high, even at the lowest. The UI could use some work, and the tutorial needs to be more intuitive as it's hard to figure out controls.

Need to move a whole stack? Click and hold on the stack. Small things like that.

It has its EA feel, of course, but the developers seem super active. I'm happy with my purchase.

The one thing that puts me off playing this game is the level is not randomly generated just like minecraft! everything you see and run into has been see\explored by everyone that plays the game, Im refunding the game due to that fact!

This game looks very nice and is a lot of fun to play but the very low durabilty of the raft makes exploration nearly impossible. Even when you don't use your raft for 2-3 days you have to built a new one. A lot of resource grinding what makes you stop playing the game.

Oblaque

I should not have trusted the Steam reviews on this game because I am fairly certain that they are fake reviews made by the developers and their friends. Upon looking at the Metacritic reviews (Wii U version. there are no reviews for the PC version of this game on Metacritic at the time of this writing) for this game, it matches what I experienced while playing this game. It is an atrocious attempt at making a Minecraft clone.

Everything about it is so poorly implemented that it ceases to amaze me how this game is still available for purchase. Also, there is no 21:9 ultra-wide support for this game. I will be much more careful when buying indie games now. I will always check Metacritic reviews from now on.

Not a bad new twist on minecraft for those of us that never played out the original. It has plenty of problems however the devs seem to have a good amount of contact with the community and seem to be updating the game to benefit the players, always a good sign. Maybe not worth the full price but I have certainly gotten my moneys worth out of it, and I enjoy exploration games and the thrill of discovery. May feel a bit lacking to players used to minecraft with the poor inventory and durability systems, however it is quite enjoyable to someone coming to the game without any great expectations. And Plus, it looks really nice!

Not really what I expected. I don't feel the urge to continue playing this endless boar bashing simulator. The cube graphics are nice I guess.

I loved minecraft but I'm struggling to get into this game. It has a limited save feature (One only). Animals don't react correctly, as in wild animals surround my character for no reason constantly on sight. Making it difficult to fight monsters that are attacking me, as they often get struck and then become hostile. My tools arn't great but they do break constantly, and little to quickly in my mind. No farming, reseeding plant life or growing food that I've seen so far? And I feel my inventory is to limited for a gathering resource game. I would also like to have seen a co-op option atleast for team play and building enjoyment with friends and family.
I don't hate the game, but I'm not thrilled either? Graphics are nice. Exploring is fine and discovering places.

I am a newcomer to this game genre and as such I find the game amusing as well as straightforward. Although pixelated the grapics as a whole is attractive in its own way and I am looking forward to further discoveries. So far so good as they say.

Cube Life is incredibly fun for those who enjoy the building genre and the survival action. I almost sh** my pants when cannibal jumped from the dark. On the top of it, this is the top looking block builder on Steam. Love this game.

Pretty lame compared to the very similar minecraft. There is not alot of content, not too much you can do and the few resources you have is spread over a vast network of small islands. (Each being their own map that you transfer between)

Pretty important functions are missing:

The leaf blocks of treas does not disintegrate.
No way of planting treas.
No way to easily split stacks. (unless I just dont understand the system for it)

Other than those flaws its playable and pretty but quite boring and grindy. It feels like a very early alpha game and brings nothing new to the table in any signifigant way.

A very realistic clone of Minecraft. It has a lot more to do on Survival mode than in Creative mode. However, skins only work in Creative mode. (though I wish there was a female survival mode character you could play as.)

I dont understnad why people give negative reviews based on a few things not being how they wish. I find the game fun, well worth the money spent. less then going to the movies one time. This game may be a lot like other more popular games but i happen to enjoy this one more. I own a ton of crafting survival games, and yes i own the real popular ones too but i really like this. Yes raft durability should be increased a little, yes splitting stacks should be easier, feathers should be more common, but the devs, listen to the forums and change things as they learn what is liked and what isnt. A REVIEW shouldnt be listed as negative just because you dont like one or two things. Does the game provide entertainment = yes Does the game function properly = yes Does the game allow you to decide your fate = yes Can you play this game for a long time = yes Is this game worth the money you spent = yes

I think its pretty cool, once you get the hang of it. I love building shelter in all the islands. my houses are mazes throughout each island. With doors, windows, fire pits, furniture, chests full of collectables. but save your game often! cannibals, animals, the Kraken .... are out to get you! its a casual game, but with many goals you need to hunt down. i have played 136 hrs so far and am not even a quarter done! there is a purpose in the game.... you have to beat all obstacles on each island. there are about 10 (or more islands) to explore, build, dig, steal, fight, find secret passages. night time is the scariest. stay inside a well built house with all the resources you need. keep up your health, hydration, and food or .... BAM! i give it an A- game!

CLONE OR CLASSIC?

There's little to say about this game that hasn't been said, so I will just give my view on the gameplay mechanics.
Originally I was confused as to how the crafting system worked. Coming straight from MineCraft it does seem over-complicated. However once I got my eye in I really do see how this game offers something new.
But that's where the compliments stop.

I can find no reason whatsoever to play this game over Minecraft (MC). And that's because MC offers so much more. Being able to modify the graphics, sounds and music in MC brings all the failings of this title to bear, and MC's better item placement (ie stairs) really drives the point home.

And I'm disapointed that that's the case, because I had higher hopes for this game. CF:IS was a game I watched all through development and I expected more. Much more. My score: 6/10

Maybe I am alone in this, but I think you die of thirst way too quickly. In real life you can go 3 to 5 days without water.... but in the game it seems you can't even go a full 24 hours without it. I love the look of the game, and I would like to play more, but I die too quickly, of thirst. Also, the tools break rather quickly. Great game though, and I'm sure it has taken a lot of work. I could see this rivalling minecraft in the future.

This game is not the best but definitely nowhere near bad. It's a good game, it just needs some changes. The first change I would make would be to have an option to disable shadows. As it currently stands, you can only lower the detail of shadows, that still leaves people with low end GPUs in a bad spot. At the lowest settings, I get about 15 FPS. The performance would greatly be improved if I could disable shadows. When playing survival mode, if you try to collect sand, most of the time, you won't get anything. The same goes for dirt. I am one to pile up dirt to reach leaves, if I were to do that in this game, the entire island would eventually have no dirt or grass. Coal is extremely rare in this game. I only ever found a single vein of coal on the beginner island. Lastly, trying to re-plant the trees for the island is a very difficult process. In order to do this, you need to create a bucket, wait for it to rain, stand out in the rain until the bucket is full, go and get a block of leaves, coconuts, or any fruit from any tree, then craft a seed. The bucket is destroyed in the process, and it takes a very long time for leaves to generate when you plant the tree which starts out as a massive log. In conclusion, in order to make the game better, there should be an option to disable shadows, breaking blocks should give you the block every time, seeds should be easier to get, and coal should be far more abundant on the beginner island. I still really enjoy this game though!

This is possibly the worst clone of a game I have played. Picture this: Minecraft exactly how it should be. Except it is worse in every single way possible. That's what this game has to offer. At the time of writing this you can't even sprint in the damned thing! Do not waste your money.

This Game is Awesome i haven't played much yet, but for my 4 hours i have played it was quite entertaining, just need to figure out where to get coal and other mats.

Word of Advice :) Don't go out in the night lol, if you do be prepared the cannibals will find you haha, just have a sword handy and do gorilla tactics on them..

One thing that would be awesome for this game is to have your save game upload to steam cloud to be able to sync on multiple pcs/laptops i have a desktop and laptop currently and play on both and i can't continue my game that i played on my desktop and that is quite a bother, hopefully it might be added in the future or in a patch.

This game was not a bank breaker but is worth every cent of the amount that you pay! My advice for potential buyers, this is a gem and you won't regret buying the game.

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of minecraft and enjoy many of its rip-offs, but this game just isn't really worth it. The "unique" elements it has are things that I've seen easily modded into minecraft, and overall the game is just too restrictive and "clunky" (for a lack of better wording) to be as fun as the more open sandbox games. I thought maybe it was just the survival mode giving me problems, but it was still just as clunky in the creative mode.

Also, it crashed 2-3 times while I was playing it (which is honestly probably what stopped me being able to fully immerse myself and figure things out to a point I could enjoy it). Absolute shame, as I love how it looks and was hoping for it to be just that *little* bit more then it was.

On the plus, though, I really LOVE the world creation screen. Being able to drag the map around until I find an island shape I liked was great! And the water texture was nice (though as I said, nothing I haven't seen modded into other sandbox games).

I wish I could vote this neutral, but because I can't I have to lean on "not recommend", just because there are better alternatives. As a stand-alone, it's not the worst game I've played. As a minecraft clone it's ... better to just get java edition and add some 3rd party mods.

Cube Life is like Minecraft... But on steroids.

If we have on mind Mojang's game, Cube Life has some interesting inspirations, from the most obvious ones (the cubic graphics) to the more subtle ones (like torch illumination). Even though, Cube Life has some aspects to call theirs.

The game starts with a story of wealth and travelling and, out of nowhere, you get stranded on a desert island and, after that, you have to solve some misteries to understand what is going on there. You just need to craft a map (the game has a fix world map) and, then, go out there and explore everything.

The game physics and sounds work pretty well, they perfectly match. The start of the game should be better explained by the narrator, most things just point out to "Press the h button to access the guide", but, for example, at no point is explained that you need to hold the CTRL key to drag a whole bunch of materials together. Besides that, having the coconut as the only water source during the first hours of the game is not a good option, since there are not many palm trees. I think this should be better explained on the first parts of the game.

To sum it up, this is a good game and it is a very promising one to be the next big thing to challenge Minecraft dominance on the creative part of the internet!

Overall a decent game that lets you play type of minecraft on steam. I miss the multiplayer function but hopefully if the creater of this game work for it, the game could end in good rates and also get popular. I think adding a few features that isnt made in minecraft, would make this game a bit more unique and at same time make more people wanna try the game. I have 1.7 hours on the game right now, and i really liked how you got the tutorial and the start story, the music in menu was also cool.

My honest rate would be 8/10 , the game gets -2 because im missing some type of features and unique stuff that will only be in cube life and not in minecraft too.
I know the game could be better and when it turns with a great update im sure the game makes me rate the top score and also the game itself will grow alot more.

The quality in the game isnt the worst i have seen and i mean around 10$ for this type of game is DEFINITLY worth it, every single penny because of the time you actually wanna spend in the game. Collecting wood, making house and also search for challenges.

This game is very similar to Minecraft but much cheaper and on Steam. It looks as if you are using shaders from Minecraft and makes the game look very great. Of course, it has some things vanilla Minecraft doesn't have(like backpacks). The thing I love the most about this game though are the rag doll physics! Very fun to play around with. If you like Minecraft, it wouldn't be bad to pick this up.

Overall CUBE LIFE: ISLAND SURVIVAL (ver. 1.8.0) game is very appealing and addictive. I enjoyed a lot playing the game more than 2 hours from start. Exploring interactive items and seeing high-quality scenes especially water and sky and pixelated objects in the open-world environment was quite fun. Especially in spare time, one can play this game for fun and time pass. Graphical game design is very high quality and immersive. The game theme design is also consistent and professional throughout. Minor adjustments can make the game more fun as used in common in a similar indie game like health icon or stamina bar icon can be used pixel animated & dynamic.
Although it is an indie game, it has very high-quality graphics. The game storyline is increasingly interesting and immersive which creates suspense to know more of it by playing the next challenges. Challenging tasks need to be solved cleverly using an interactive and dynamic environment of the stage scenario.
Especially in spare time, one can play this game for fun and time pass.
The game theme design is also consistent and aesthetically nice-looking throughout.
A bit heavy on resources due to high-quality graphics but can manage to run on medium to low settings. Continuing game through manual saving is also a good feature.
I hope autosave game feature also added in the upcoming version of the game.
The music theme is also very scary relevant and consistent throughout the game.
Audio and sound effects are nice. Overall the game is very appealing.
For 1.8.0 version of the game, it was a remarkable indie sandbox/open-world single-player game and I hope that it will be further improved in future patched versions of your game & it will help you in reaching further heights of providing a better gaming experience.
Looking forward to playing the next version of the game which will be further improved and made more fun for gamers.

This is garbage. Really, it's bad. It's a minecraft clone, and even copies the exact recipes from minecraft for making tools and other items. However, there is terrible music, even worse voice acting, and everything in general is just bad. Peaceful animals fight back when you hit them and when you die you get booted back to a menu.

Really good Minecraft-ish type game. It's more survivally if you get my drift. I got a few hours in to it now and am starting to learn a bit more about it and such. My only complaint is that the tools and such degrade way too fast. Other than that, for the price, I recommend it if you are into Minecraft style titles.

I think this is honestly the best Minecraft "clone" ever made. It tries to do its own thing and, in my opinion, succeeds.

Imagine this: Youre 10 years old in 2015 and have a Wii U, you dont know that Minecraft will release in December 2015. You get this Game on your 10th Birthday. You start playing it, its alright. Later the update comes out, you have more fun, although Minecraft also released on the Wii U and you own it. the last time you played this Game was in 2017. You browse Steam and you remember this Game. You look it up, You find it again on steam, then you think why not check it out...again? You buy and play it. Alright.. thats enough of my History with this Game, anyway... They over did the shaders and they look like shit. Its not that great of a game and Im saying this as someone who put over 200 Hours or more into the Wii U Version back in 2015 - 2017. I never realized just how much of a cheap knock off this is. If you really wanted a Minecraft Clone... just dont and go buy Minecraft. This Game hasnt aged well and some of the Voice Acting, Lighting etc.. was better in the Wii U version. Please just dont bother with this Game.

So...what should i say... The WiiU game from 2015 was amazing. This one is a little bit worse from my perspective, but the price is ok for a few hours of surviving.

[EDIT From 21.11.2021]
They released an update after more than a year and the game is just unplayable. More bugs that really hurts your gameplay experience and lots of other things. Because of that, i can´t recommend it in this current state.

+ Day/Night cycle
+ Lot of things to craft
+ Lot of things to mine
+ Guide book from the start (trust me, you gonna need it. At least for crafting)
+ Boss battles, big variation of enemies
+ Option to sell/buy stuff from another NPC´s

- AI of the cannibals is sometimes broken
- You can´t heal yourself while you are in battle
- Start of your survivat adventure can be really difficult for a new players
- Autosave feature is missing...
- [From 21.11.2021] From patch 1.9.1 there are a lot of new bugs which really hurts your gameplay experience. For example, the eye indicator now is much bigger so you can´t see half of your screen, use chests, use inventory... or the crafting guide is now very buggy as well.
- [From 21.11.2021] There still isn´t a multiplayer. Even the WiiU version from 2015 has a local play...

So far the gameplay seems alright and if you are into minecraft you might want to check this out. However, the graphics in this game are rendered poorly as if you are running on low FPS. I did not pay a lot of money for a gaming PC to receive jaggy graphics! You can see what I mean if you look at the video at around 1:13. Player jumps to the other platform, but look at the rendering. It's very jaggy. The whole game is like that!

Either the developer(s) don't know what they are doing, in which case they are incompetent, or they just don't care in which case they are mean. I don't know which is worse! But for this reason I'm downvoting it. Otherwise I probably would have enjoyed it.

Just play Minecraft instead.

This had potential to be what Minecraft is not, its a weak carbon copy - like when you wanted McDonalds but your parents told you we have McDonalds at home.

This had so much potential to be what minecraft is not, but it appears its been abandoned by its creator and there's nothing inspiring to continue playing after a brief walk for 12 minutes.

To be completely honest I don't have the best pc so I haven't really been able to experience it as much as others but I will say it's an ok game. I played it on the wii u when minecraft wasn't on it so I did get a sense of nostalgia when playing this. To be completely honest with you the game is alright at best like it has some cooler graphics and some semblance of a story but it's really not that good. The shaders were a bit much and your character looks really ugly also everything breaks way too fast it's kinda unbearable. Also when you drop items it just kinda looks like s**t. Not to mention but the controls are just a**. I honestly wish there was more to this game and if they update it with more content instead of just rtx on it might be a good game instead of a weird minecraft clone. Well that's the end of my review there is a decent chance no one will see this but I don't care so if you bought this game I hope your happy.
