This game is so relaxing, but addictive, in a good way. I can sit down and play for a couple hours, and be completely entertained, but can still put it down when i have real life to attend.

Not only that the story is hillarious, and seems to just keep going, definitely recommend this.

The combination of harpoon scuba fishing and restaurant management is something new and incredibly fun. They also add so many other random elements to the game that genuinely build character in every single NPC in the game. The base they have laid for this game is the best I've seen in years.

Granted, the game feels very far from finished content wise but I've gotten many hours out of the early access content alone. Excited for full release!

DAVE MUSTARD

This game is awesome there so many thing to do exploring, deep sea, sea creature, sushi restaurant, fish farm, fighting system and others.
but after 10-15 hours it becomes boring repetition.
But it's understandable because the game is still under development *I'll wait and will come back when the game is complete.
for now 9/10

Toxix

Fun game with restaurant management that's not overly complicated, and seems to reward smart managers with a decent amount of automation.
Early access version offers a pretty good amount of content so far, and lots of mechanics to learn.
10 hours in and it still feels like I'm learning something new every dive.

More polished and stable than the early access label suggests.

My only regret is not waiting a little longer till the full game is released to experience the full game all at once.
That being said, the early access is already like a complete game till you hit a story line blockade very late into the game. I love the new take on the spear / harpoon fishing game genre. This game will be one of my all time highs.

I've read some of the negative reviews and found that most of them did not spend more time in the game. As this game is a slow build up to a wonderful experience. Dont let them trick you out of this game!

That being said, there are some improvements that Dev's may look at.
-During my first play, the mission to unlock staff's was quite oblivious to me as the customers flooded in, I kept wondering how do I unlock staffs till I traveled to the far right of the sea and found the requirement there! (Perhaps a clue to the direction is better as when you're new, you don't have enough oxygen and I tend to stick close to the dive spot and dive as deep as I can instead of further right)
-Some mini games are not equal to each other. examples are the lightning, poison and tranq harpoons. I find myself avoiding them altogether to not play the mini game when harpooning fishes. (Might be just me)
-harpoon upgrades. As you achieve deeper depths, the enemies are much more agile, especially sharks. I've found that my harpoon can barely hit them without getting hit in return and an upgrade for the harpoon length would be a nice quality of life upgrade. (Do not like dying to sharks with a full bag)
-There's also a big opportunity to better the sushi experience. Especially with the waiting time around pouring and wasabi mini games. Earlier on this is very difficult to manage as it seems like a long waiting game instead of a mini game aspect to the sushi restaurant. (Just my 2 cents, as this issue does resolve itself later on in the game with staff upgrades)

Overall - 12/12 would play again and again.
Thank you Devs for this amazing creation!!
Cant wait for the full release!!

I love this game, it made me smile alot. The characters are great, the music is great, the diving and fishing is fun, theres cool story and on top of that running the sushi restaurant is alot of fun and feels rewarding too!

This game blindsided me, and I love it! The story is amazing, the mechanics are something you come to grips with quickly, and the art style is so damned cute.

If you haven't tried it and are currently considering it - save yourself the time and get the game for the name of Bancho's Sushi.

Not sure why this game has overwhelmingly positive reviews, cause its quite the frustrating diving game. The restauraung part is kind of fun, but the diving part can be very frustrating. Specially the aiming, the fact that you cant aim up or down properly is very annoying (especially in combat). Check video gameplay of this game or wait for a sale before picking up this game, dont get fooled like I did with the reviews.

This game blends a lot of elements of games together to form a really good experience, coupled with a great story. It has a great mix between the more stressful sushi part and the more relaxed diving sections. I really recommend this game to anybody, as i love so many things about this game.

Amazing game so far! The artistic touches are done so well you forget about it being in 16bit SNES style graphics, which I love BTW, I grew up on Nintendo and Atari. The controls are a bit wonkey at times, until you get used to them, then you see that they lend themselves well to a sense of dread when being attacked by a shark/enemy. O2 is also health and stamina but it is done well also. Well worth the $20 price tag. The only downside is it's still in early access and not out in full yet! Great job dev!

I bought this on a whim because the idea of running a sushi place seemed super appealing... this game is super fun. I never thought I would find it as addicting as it is. The little side quests and card collections they have make it so that the game never feels repetitive, there's always something different to do. The storyline is fantastic and engaging. The humor they throw in there too is great. It's seriously a well-rounded game and well worth the price.

TLDR: it gives off a Stardew Valley vibe, while also presenting its plot as a whole new concept/story.

Proper review:
While this game is in early access, it still has iffy, little glitchy moments but those are far and few between (at least for me). Graphically it's easy on the eyes without being too bright or too dark depending on the depth your at.

Dave (the Diver) is interesting, body positive character who is open about his likes and dislikes when referenced within the game. He's wholesome, while also keeping his own against Bancho the chief but still being thoughtful and kind.
I simply look forward to seeing this in full access.

Duffman

This is new type of game for me and haven't played anything like this.
There are also plenty of "homages" of devs paying respect to classic game and media.
This is by far highest quality of 2D+3D dot graphic game.

Joseph Joeslam (Arxel)
Joseph Joeslam…

Not only is the basic gameplay loop pretty darn entertaining, the game, despite looking simple, is extremely rich in content. As you descend the depths you unlock new ways to tackle issues, new mechanics you wouldnt expect (or are quite surprised with the implementations of) and new genres added to this 'simple sea exploration adventure'. This might be the game that won me over the most with how much it's offering in Early Access.

Game has a great premise, great gameplay, BUT!!! waaaay to many qte's. Actions that have no business having qte's, have qte's.
Some cutscenes take You out of a dive and, I think, don't give You stuff You collected.
But other then that, it's pretty enjoyable.
Plays good on the Deck as well.

This is my indie GotY. i'd give it a 9.5 out of 10 just because I like the restaurant management sim game a lot but it feels like a bit of a side game instead of one of the two main games. Cant wait for the official release!

I have not enjoyed a game since metal gear solid one on Ps One, that is how old i am.
I don't 100% know why this game chills me out so much but i can just spend so much time lost in its story and funny content.
Massive thank you to MINTROCKET for bringing me back to gaming for so many years, fantastic idear and get fun.

In "Dave the Diver" you play as Dave, who is not just a diver but also a manager/server at a restaurant, and a farmer of both plants and fish. The core game play loop is Dave diving to collect fish and managing your restaurants menu. Within the game you'll also explore the depths of the (as of current two) ocean maps, complete various quests given to you by a host of unique and fun characters, manage your restaurant by hiring/training staff, and overseeing your fish/rice farm.

The game starts you exploring a small portion of a what it calls a constant changing pocket of the ocean (again only two maps as of now) wherein after learning the controls you'll become a server in the restaurant slowly opening up more game play as you progress.

Things done well in my opinion:
- The core game play loop is enjoyable
- There's a lot to do in the game
- The NPS are silly, entertaining, and the dialog is fairly well written
- Animations are over the top and a joy to watch (skippable after repeated viewings)
- The oxygen as health bar mechanic adds a nice level of tension to the game

What needs work in my opinion:
- There's a delay in trying to rapid fire your speargun that's annoying and makes fighting fast moving fish annoying
- It has the "Mario" mechanic where simply touching an enemy damages you, when fighting larger fish this can be very annoying as the tail or fins will destroy you in close combat
- Fish can get inside your hit box wherein you're unable to repel them. If you're heavy this can outright kill you as you're unable to escape
- It would be nice to be able to change the music around and "Set" it to different locations. As it is now, you can listen to any of the music you unlocked in the game on your phone but that's all you can do with it.

Overall "Dave the Diver" is quite a fun game and I would recommend it to others.

Butcher Bill
Butcher Bill

I really loved this game, the only problem is that there isn't more of it at the moment.
Very much in the same vein as those good old flash games, where you upgrade your character, play an instance, make money, and repeat; each time become wealthier and better equiped. Boss fights aren't exactly Elden Ring-tier, but they're interesting enough.
Gameplay is fun, but not super challenging, just so long as you keep your gear upgraded and train up your employees.
The 2d sprite based graphics are bright and colorful (appropriate, given the tropical location) and easy on the eyes. There's many different species of fish, from the lowliest guppy to the mightiest sharks, and all are distinct and look good.
Finding, hunting, and killing new fish species to serve up in your restaurant is very compelling. I felt genuine thrill whenever I meet a new species of shark to do battle with.
In short, it's a legitimately great game even in this unfinished state. It's up to you whether or not you'd like to wait until it's more complete though, because personally I have quite a bad case of blue balls having run into multiple "under construction" signs 20+ hours in.

Absolutely awesome game... I have 29 hours so far and dont see myself giving up on it any time soon. For a game in early access there is so much to do and so many hours of enjoyment to be had. Highly recommend giving this game a try it is well worth the money.

Son 0f Tyr
Son 0f Tyr

As far as "early access" goes, this game is far ahead of any others. It's has considerably more depth than most in the field and it offers a rewarding gameplay loop. There are allot of part which are still in the works but even as is, it's a blast and remains fun after 15 hours!

Mr. Buckaroo
Mr. Buckaroo

An absolutely phenomenal game.

This is something like a demo but fleshed out so much that it almost feels like a complete game. An inkling at one point suggests the game will let us get to a 1000m depth but we can only reach 300m before the game cuts us off at the end of the EA portion.

I highly recommend this game to others and the devs seem very attentive. A lot of love and care is going into this game and they have put a lot of thought into reeling you in without showing everything before it's ready.

There's such an involved story that I almost felt like it was a game that would cut you off completely and make you replay the same day over and over at the end of the EA. NOPE, you basically enter endless.

Cannot wait to see what lies in store for us after 300m

I love this game. Pushing your luck while diving is awesome. Do I have enough air, can I make it past that shark, maybe if I go a little deeper I will find something awesome, OH CRAP CAN I MAKE IT BACK TO THE SURFACE BEFORE I DROWN. Combine that with the excellent restaurant management/service minigames as a nice pallet cleanser between dives and this game has struck a winning formula. Absolutely this game is worth your time.

This is one of the best games I've played in a while. While it's still in early access, and there's a limited story mode available, I've still put in 17 hours and enjoyed every moment of it. Gameplay, graphics, animation, and grinding are tight; better than a lot of fully released games. There's enough exploring, fishing, farming, fish breeding, and working in the sushi restaurant to make this worth your while.

This game takes everything about my real life (being a chef on yachts, passionate scuba diver with less fish murder) and masterfully blends it into an enormously enjoyable casual indie game. I never even had hopes for such a perfectly moulded idea in the gaming universe to be imagined. But! You guys did it, and bravo to you. The variety in storyline events keeps the missioning fresh and exciting. The phone UI is cute and a concise way to access most in game tools. I love the calm and serene music choice for diving, and the ethereal feeling to the ocean. I love this design and graphics more than you could know! Amazing amazing work, reaally. My only request is to please give us allllllllllll the updates for continued playing with new ocean areas to explore and for new sea animals to commit pretend murder on. Excited to see full release when we get there.

This game is amazing. It has so many things in it that I enjoy and it puts them together in good ways. It feels like I'm getting the same collectors itch scratched from pokemon and animal crossing, while I can also do management things in the sushi bar. I could easily play 8 more hours and not be bored and it's not even full release yet.

The game's keybindings require pressing left and right mouse button at the same time, so it's impossible to play this game without a mouse or controller. Keybindings cannot be changed. I'll update this review if this is fixed.

Super fun and has kept me busy for hours. A lot of these types of games eventually get very repetitive and boring after awhile, but this one is genuinely entertaining and there is always more to do and more to see. Super fun game filled with so much game play, especially for it being early access.

I haven't quite completed the game in it's current state yet, so I'll update the review when I do.

So far, this is a really nice little game. The story is good so far and I really enjoy how it plays. The oxygen system makes for some tense moments where you might want to continue deeper and hope there's an oxygen tank or other way out, or head back to the surface, potentially missing out on some good fish or items. The restaurant portion of the game is a neat addition that breaks up the gameplay. The characters are cool, if a bit rude to start (I hope it's just to start)

The fact that guns can be made somehow through a phone makes me laugh.

Overall, this is one of the best games I've played recently, and I will be going back.

Cubi
Cubi

Honestly one of the funnest games I've played in a while.

There's so many different ways to play the game, you can follow the quest storyline, you can focus on fishing, you can focus on managing the restaurant, but every aspect is super enjoyable and feels interactive.

The game has a lot of detail and depth, whether it is the terminology (I've worked for 5 years as a sushi chef and the vocabulary is pretty accurate) or the different "apps" and it still doesn't feel overwhelming when you play, which is very impressive.

The graphics are quite unique with the combination of 3D and pixel art that works super well together.

Really looking forward to the direction of the game.

A diamond at the bottom of the sea. If you grew up in the era of Flash games and Newgrounds this game is for you. It’s hard to say there is some major innovation or new ground-breaking ideas adding something to the genre, but the devs made sure to polish every detail to make it look gorgeous.

Now, remember this is an early access game. There are plenty of bugs and game can crash out making you lose the progress (30-40 minutes of gameplay). I had to restart the entire game (only one save for playthrough) because of one scene not loading properly locking me out of the further part of game. So yeah, so far the optimisation is pretty “meh”, but this is an early access game. Checking the log you will see the devs are doing everything they can to make it look and work better. Despite those problems, game is really great and fun to play.

So yeah, just dive into the gameplay..

This game is sooooo relaxing with loads to do at the same time. I'm excited for the official launch! There is so much to do/explore in this game. Sick of fishing? check on the farm! Sick of farming? Capture different fish to breed them! The atmosphere is perfect. Get it now so you're ready for the new content when its released!

Love this game so far. It's so relaxing, and there is nothing mean about it. The story is also quite interesting. I miss the ability to upgrades weapons more, the ability to craft/upgrade melee-weapons etc., and I assume it's coming since it's still early access as of writing this. Looking forward to play each expansion, exploring the ocean and following the story.

Unlike any game I have played before.

The gameplay is simple, but fun.
The art style is beautifully done.
The soundtrack is groovy and fits every scene perfectly.
Honestly worth the price tag even though it may seem high.

Definitely give it a try. It's amazing even considering it's still in early access.

This game has been amazing so far!
The soundtrack is ambient and also lively which is very soothing during exploration and then it turns into an actual BOP when you go to serve sushi.
The game play is very engaging in my opinion, I love getting to fish and serve sushi in the evening, the game is a tad short at the moment but I'm hoping very much that they continue to add things to the game, PLEASE buy it and support the devs they deserve it!

Played till gold rank, waiting till full release to play further. Game is great but needs some quality of life changes. First, some of the progression walls are bs. How was I supposed to know that I can't hire employees unless I kill the shark? There I am, restaurant running like shit for most of the time I played cause I put the shark mission off. Paired with this, when you serve the special customer, you're locked in a scene but time is still progressing cause me to lose orders, lame. Second, add some things like a map for each ocean spawn and give us the option to choose which one to go to. Finally, add some kind of scan device or something where you can see how much health a particular shark has, SO MAYBE THEN i CAN UNDERSTAND IF MY FUCKING WEAPONS ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO TAKE IT DOWN AND THEN MAYBE I COULD HIRE SOME FUCKING EMPLOYEES EARLY GAME! Great game though, can't wait for more.

Just a great little game. I could see this being one of those blink-and-its-midnight kind of deals. Animation and art direction really remind me of old Monkey Island or old Lucas Arts adventure games with the gather and sell concept of Moonlighter. Highly recommend.

Ridiculously addictive fun.
Very pretty for pixel graphics.
Interesting characters.
Very chill soundtrack.

So yeah, this starts out as Dave the diver (you) is talked into helping run a sushi restaurant. You dive for fish, harpoon them, net them, shoot them.. get eaten by them, anyway.. a sequence of subplots open up that involves a lot of exploration and some fetching quests etc.

The day is split into 3 or 4 segments depending on how far in you've gotten. You fish by day and help out in the sushi bar at night.
The Sushi bar is as interesting as the fishing.

You just cant go wrong with this for 20quid.
Well worth it.

Actally I found this game by accident, but wow this game is amazing and surprises me around every corner.
The graphics are greate if you like pixel art, it is mixed with 3D surroundings which is very unique. There are even short animated scenes for special events which are just amazing and hillarious.

The most important part: the gameplay loop is fun!

The only thing I would approve upon is the more variety in the levels, especially as it is stated more than once that the underwater level changes every time you jump in.

Capitan Crutch
Capitan Crutch

Im 5.5 hours in so far and this game is really great! The art style is fantastic, the cut scenes have an afro samurai vibe which looks incredible. The game play is well balanced with a great mix of mini games and story quests which break up the main gameplay of supplying the sushi restaurant with fresh fish. The story has me hooked (ha). The game feels very polished and finished despite it just releasing in early access which is refreshing compared to other early access games on steam. My only complaint is I wish the game had ultra wide support. But that is a very very minor complaint.

RealityLime

Bitten by a Red Lion fish, harpooned it, served it as sushi. Upgrade equipment, learn recipes, research different underwater goodies - there are even dolphins to save for cryin' out loud! Aaaaaaaaand I don't wanna spoil anything but the first time you see *it*... priceless! A little repetitive and the story slows the pace but overall a great game! Highly recommend it!

I wish all games were this much fun. The perfect balance between challanging and relaxing. 9.5 out of 10

I couldn't sleep and was going through my e-mail and noticed this had just released. I really enjoyed the demo so I picked this up and thought I'd play for 20-30 mins, and then go back to bed. 5 hours later and I only stopped playing b/c I have to go run some errands. Otherwise I'd still be paying this gem of a rpg/cooking sim mash-up. I like how so far, even after 5 hours of playtime, I'm still unlocking new things and upgrading just about everything else. And even when it gets difficult, due mostly from being swarmed by OP fish and losing all your o2, I still want to play because it (almost) never feels cheap or overwhelming. If you like Action RPGs, the manga/anime Food Wars, or have been looking for a game to really sink some time into, this is it right here.

Great game, I just got it when it released at 3 am in the morning and I don't want to go to sleep, can't stop playing it. I was looking forward to the diving aspect as you don't come across many games like this. I was not to interest in running the sushi bar even though I love sushi irl however this game changed my mind on the management of the bar it give the diving real purpose and ties into the game play very well. It's addictive and rewarding, great game so far. This is early access but and there is still more content to come, I have not gotten to the end of it yet but I'm stoked for the future full release from what is here currently.

This game should be topping the best selling list right now is my honest opinion. I've played it on a steamdeck which it works excellent with fluid fps and controls are solid could easily be verified status. Theirs just the right amount of risk versus reward with constant motivation of upgrades. Graphics look great even with zooming around underwater fps holds up. The way they tied the sushi bar into the fish hunting aspect was genius. Adds just the right amount of break up between both activities to make for a fun gameplay loop(also random events). Well worth the money especially if your looking for something fun to play on steamdeck.

This game is super charming with likable characters and events. The graphics are cute and the music lively. Underneath that finish is a challenging experience. Recommended if you like the Stardew vibe with some action.

Prestobone
Prestobone

Great story and mechanic. However, the control during the diving is still clunky and not so responsive. Like when you're trying to turn around. Dave animation goes to swimming for split second before actually facing another direction. Also the harpoon will always aimed above initially instead of immediately following the cursor direction. This has cost me some damage caused by aggressive fish. I also got a poor framerate despite using my i7 PC. I hope this will get fixed soon. I would not reccomend the game in such current state.

Very addicting game play loop.
Love everything about it. The music, the art style. Just spent 8 hours glued to Dave The Diver and loved very minute.
I feel like it hits a sweet spot between being challenging and casual.
I also like that it has a story and that actions have meaning, not just some arcade style game.

10 out of 10.
If your on the fence about buying it, DO IT!!, you wont be able to put it down.

I am having a lot of fun with this game. Lots of unique quests to do. I am enjoying both phases of this game (the spear fishing and adventure AND the working the the sushi restaurant). So far I would definitely recommend.

I love the art style and general concept of this game. It fills a niche like never before! Unfortunately, as it stands, this game is not currently functional for laptop users. I was soft-locked IN THE TUTORIAL due to the main mechanic (harpoon) not being compatible with my laptop controls, and there is no way to skip the tutorial or switch controls. I worked around it by tabbing out of the game to aim and back in to shoot. Not fun when this is essentially the main way to catch fish!

I'm absolutely in love with the sprite art of this game. Music is on point, very upbeat. Very chill when diving and collecting fish, fun exploring, combat is pretty good. Running around the sushi restaurant is a nice break. Really excited to dive deeper.

Get it. You won't regret it. The gameplay is simple, but the creators have brilliantly made this little gem so memorable. The adorable animations for upgrading items and food make it worth it alone!

pretty great, way more than it seems from on the surface, worth the price so far... looking forward to making more progress

Was really excited for the game, played it a good amount today.

Can't recommend at this time though. The game is designed to be played with a controller. Can't understand why the developers would choose to release a controller game on PC, but here were are.

Unfortunately, this also means that at some point you will soft-lock yourself out of the game, unable to complete an unskippable unavoidable story scene where if you are playing on a keyboard (like I would assume 99% of steam users are) you simply won't be able to progress. (You have to pour a beer which requires you to pull down on a joystick and slowly release, but keyboards don't have joysticks, so you're SOL)

I will change my review once this is patched, but as of right now I can't recommend a game for PC that isn't built for people playing on PC.

Amazing...just Amazing. so much love and hard work went into this title you can just tell that in the first 10 minutes of game play. It is indie teams like this who show how games should be developed and when they should be released. AAA titles need to learn from teams like this. buy this game.... support teams that produce quality entertainment. 10/10 game play and Audio and graphics. Great job, well done.

Wonderful little game right here that came out of nowhere for me.

It has two parts to it...

1. You have the diving elements where you have to get fish for the sushi bar. You go diving for fish and other goodies.

2. You then have the Sushi bar part which is you making the menu based on what fish you got and help out when customers come

It is a wonderful mix and super chill. Also lastly the dialogue is great, its a real wholesome game in general but especially with the dialogue.

If you have a fun chill and relaxing game that is a nice mix of adventure diving and fishing in the water and also sushi bar management and I am all the way in on it. Give it a try!

**It also runs very good on the steam deck and controls perfectly with the joysticks right away**

Really great game ! The artstyle is beautiful and each dive is its own little adventure. The restaurant part of the game isn't too challenging but makes a nice little change of pace from the hunting.

Great experience so far. Totally worth the price.
I`ll try to portion the amount of content I consume per gaming session. Considering that it is an early access, don`t want to finish the game way too soon.

I highly recommend this game.

Ambient music, super crips graphics. The ocean depths and the sea dwellers are simply gorgeous.
Have encountered very few bugs so far.

There is so much to do. The game keeps on surprising me.
It never becomes boring, or grindy, because there is always something new to do and explore.

Just when you think you have seen them all, the devs gives us another new cutscene.
On more than one occation, I've found myself laughing out loud. The humor is brilliant.
You will find many a reference in the scenes and they make me enjoy the game even more.

The high amount of content already available, make me wonder what plans the devs have for more features. Not to mention what happens when the game is out of early access.

The predator fish... yes some of them make me curse a lot. Especially the sawfish - I totally have a love/hate relationship with that one.

As you progress and level up your gear, it does become easier to handle some of the nastier kinds. But it never becomes a walk in the park.
DO NOT underestimate the little ones. Just because a critter is small, does not mean it is harmless.
Do not let your guard down, and watch out or you'll get cornered!

One scenario was impossible to escape. 3 Baracudas and a Whitetip reef shark, all wanted Dave to be their main meal. The scenario was so hopeless, I was overwhelmed with giggles. Needless to say Dave didn't make it.
The above scene is not one I have seen more than once. But it was so funny it had to be mentioned.
Maybe it would be an idea with an option to play the game at different settings of difficulty :)

One thing I'd love to see devs, are maps... I am a master at getting lost. A map would so be appriciated.

11 hours play time in a day I would say it is addictive :D
