Lots of potential but that's just it. Devs have abandoned the ship.
I suggest to purchase this only while on sale.
actually not that bad of a game kind of interesting. I would really like to see this game go fare and add new stuff :)
This is well worth buying in a sale, which I just did.
Better on a bigger screen than I am using, and bear in mind this is regarded as complete. It is well thought out and nice to look at, although I suspect the music will wear a bit thin in a few more hours.
The economy is a bit weird, but never mind.
Also the priorities are strange, nobody seems to think anything beyond becoming irate about lack of meat and shooting each other if they get the chance. It could have been another Trropico if they had just added some thoughts to the villagers.
it is relatively glitch free and the graphics are light, I do not have the recommended minimum and it plays fine on low settings.
Very helpful community page.
This game is half-baked and released as finished. When you start, no matter how many people you mark as builders, only 3 work on a building. The rest just stand around. I had put up 3 buildings to build. Three people worked on 1 building, and the rest just stood around. They will not even work on a second building. For me, that is a half-baked game. When I mark someone as a builder, they should go and look for a building to build.
As was pointed out in a rather mentally-ill post, the game title is deceptive. Calling this depraved is an exaggeration.
I wish I hadn't bothered buying this game in early-access. Marking it as v. 1.0 doesn't mean that the game is finished. It means that the devs are done with it.
I'm unsure how many more indie games I will bother with. This seems to be a term that means hobby-devs. While they have great ideas, like this one, they do not seem to have the where-withall to see it through.
Real downside of early access investment: You cannot get your money back on the game, if it is never finished, whether it is marked as finished or not.
it's a great game it's a pity no there no workshop or mods though
Grab on sale because it's a dead game. I think it got nipped by covid but in its current state it is alot of fun. Very chill and careful planning is needed to progress in the game. Western theme is very refreshing! Runs smooth. I didn't have any bugs or lags. Totally sandbox. Grab a warm blanket and build Tombstone:)
This game is not ready, it was abandoned by Devs and never finished. They promoted as completed, but it has tons of bugs and no answers from the development. Do not waster your money on this.
interesting city builder set in the old west!
Sounded good on paper, bad in practice. Wouldn't recommend. Wish I had saved the money
Great build game. Just like the wild west. Fun to play. A little boring at times but you can speed it up. Relaxing game while you're not being killed by opposing forces both animal and human.
The game has been abandoned by the devs. if they opened it to modding it would have potential. don't buy unless that happens.
First 5 minutes playing the game and half of population already got mauled to death by a pack of wolves.
Great game. Will establish the town near a bear's den next..
Game is dead...don't buy this. For a last YEAR - ZERO patches or updates...
Not bad. the building is slow so I have kept it on max speed almost indefinitely. Straightforward uncomplicated game. A few minor bugs. There doesn't seem to be any overall purpose other than to build for the sake of it, the challenge is merely staying in credit (enemies are very weak). I am enjoying it, but I expect given 10-15 hours play I will have exhausted it.
Edit- Well, it is quite addictive, but it's annoying as hell. The in-game economy is busted. You have to end up broke because the only ways to make money are to sell resources or from rent. Unfortunately, nearly all resources cost way more to produce than you can sell them for, or they take so long to produce and in such small quantity that you need to either wait dozens of hours of real time play or build multiples of farms, the problem then is the cost of all these buildings will quickly bankrupt you. Even if you try to just live off rent you need to feed all those guys which will leave you in deficit. The only way I can see is to only make basic buildings and stick with pioneers, but even then you're going to run out of food and resources.
There is also a pretty annoying bug where your builders will suddenly stop working and will refuse to build anything else. you will get charged for the building and the resources will be transported, but they will not begin construction on any building. This bug can crop up at any time so you need to save often. With some modification this could be a good game, but it's too broken to actually succeed on a map & I understand the devs have abandoned the game.
Was great when it was being developed, almost exciting even. But the game is dead in the water, No word from the devs since February 2020. Save your money.
I'm absolutely in love with this game! It's truly a work of art. The western theme of the characters and buildings is stunning and the details are impressive. I've never seen another game quite like this. I hope that this game gets expanded on in the future. It has so much potential to become something huge. I LOVE THIS GAME. Please give us more of it!
Nice game, not to advanced and time consuming.
Im reviewing this game after only 10 hours as I have already seen everything the game has to offer. There is no story so all you have is a sandbox mode, however, the maps are to small and all look the same. There is no tech tree, you just unlock more buildings as your population grows. Meaning all your towns will play out the same way, there is nothing you can do as a player to expand your playthroughs. In the future the game may get some updates, Iv had the game a while and seen no changes though. If the game is cheap think about picking it up, but at full price I just cant recommend right now. I can see what their trying to do but other games do it better. Try Banished or Dawn of Man, they are better survival city builders and are updated a lot.
awesome potential but the way the mouse cursor and the texts bubble over lay making game play awkward and any reading very difficult.
you like the feel of the gritty mid west ? of the western genre, this game is for you ... enjoy.. savage....lasting...
Overall it's a good game but still need a lot of dev.
Fun while it lasted....Really liked the old west city builder, but the game has been abandoned sadly. Devs should at least think about selling or opening up for mod support.
Game crashes every time it saves for the 1st time
the game IS most likely NOT abandoned like most think. Think about it. a world wide shut down of everything for almost no reason. the studio might have been shut down making it hard for them to do work on it. Given time this game will probably be worked on a bit more and i like it as is but if they do add more i look forward to it.
THIS game is fun for new people who are starting out on building homes and settlements.i hope they make a pt.2 i have not found one yet ,but good fun..enjoy
im pretty sad i bought this and it was abandoned.
DO NOT BUY!!
I have had several issues with the game, reported them with no response from the developer...
this game fucking sucks. the mechanics are terrible, there's no variety, and the graphics are bad.
DO. NOT. BUY!
Abandonware. It was fine when it was being patched and updated.
Recommend: Yes.
But, it lacks serious depth. Graphics are only meh, challenge is so-so, but it has the advantage of being one of the few city builders in the wild west. Once something else comes, this game will very soon be forgotten.
Get it on a discount.
I am actually finding the game fun, even through for a while i could not play it due to some odd reason, but it plays now and I love the game. can be a bit of a challenge at first which is honestly a fun aspect of a game.
Way too simplistic. It's outdated mechanics and graphics, while the management part of the game is too linear and boring.
It's banished: cowboy addition.
i love the wild west. i played rdr1 and 2 and now i can build a town that fits in that time. i love this game 10/10. i recommend downloading this game
The problem is that there's not enough to do. You can play for about 30 minutes and have seen all there is about this game. The construction aspects are also very limited, the space you're given to work with is small and buildings can't be placed close to each other, there's no variety in what can be built, and all the buildings are either for resource collection or are very basic looking shacks. The game also flirts with having some diplomacy with the local American Indians, but fails to deliver since the Indians do absolutely nothing when you do treat with them. Trade is also disappointing because, unlike with a similar game Banished, the trade options never change so all you need to do is order what you want and that's it. And the train station is completely redundant because it's only used for trade. Yes, this game made iron horses boring. On top of that there hasn't been an update in a year now, so I have no expectation that more will be added to flesh things out.
Although I'm still learning the ins and outs of the game (not a lot of instruction/tutorials on trading), I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've always been a big fan of AOE and westerns, this is a perfect blend of both!
I should love this game, i want to love this game. But even for me, a guy that plays 1000s of hours of simple games like the original colonization, it got boring fast. The idea is great but it seems to lack things to do. I would recommend it once it falls into the under $5 discount bin. I will still give it a thumbs up as its different from anything else in my collection and it did keep me busy for 20ish hours
I really loved the wild west theme and the game mechanics. It has a really nice feel to it and I would want to play more of such games. However, I should point out the problems. here as well.
1. Bugs - its fine if a game has some bugs, but they should be fixed, which... eh...
2. Performance - Well this comes under bugs as well.
I would not say this is a major problem since lots of guys can play linear kind of games which do not have too much depth. This game here does not have a lot of depth.
I still loved the game and still play this game from time to time.
Boring lasted an hour and that was painful
Was a pretty fun little game while it lasted. Developers have abandoned it, last update/patch was February 2020.
Be aware.
Developer has abandoned this game a long time ago..
Nice game to fiddle around with for a few hours.
but dont expect anything from devs about it..
Cool concept, but unfinished and abandoned.
I liked it. I enjoyed building an old west town. Just sad the devs gave up. Word of advice to any devs out there: DO NOT MAKE A GAME YOU CAN NOT COMMIT TO. Dont be like CD Projekts with Cyberpunk 2077 and leave a broken game broken. Learn from their mistakes...they were sued for their screw ups and still are being sued and still are screwing up. Dont be like them devs. Fix your games. Finish them. Dont be a coward and abandon it because you cant commit to it.
got the supporter edition of this game because i felt it was worth it. i love the idea of a harsh wild west builder. annoyingly the dev has become lazy and has abandoned it
I love city-builders, and 'Depraved' was the first one I'd ever seen with a western theme, so I was excited to try it. However, there doesn't seem to be anything more to it than that. It's essentially in permanent sandbox mode. There's no missions, no goals, no nothing except seeing how long you can survive before going bankrupt. And you will go bankrupt, cause once your city gets to a certain size, expenses become more than you can generate in profits. Use a map with train tracks so that you can build a train station, and you'll last a lot longer.
You also can't build to your heart's content. There is a "city limit" which you have to stay inside of, thus you're forced to cram your buildings tightly together in order to make everything fit. There is no tutorial either. Gotta figure it out for yourself. The game is VERY slow to "start new game", "load game", or "save game". Graphics are pretty decent, and controls are simple to learn. If you like wasting hours at a time just building for the sake of building, because you find it relaxing like I do, then give this game a try. But wait until the price is at least 50% off.
I saw that a lot of reviewers have complained about glitches and the fact that this is a "abandoned game". After 24 hours of playing on 3 maps (and going bankrupt all 3 times), I have not experienced any glitches myself. As for the "abandoned game" issue, I picked this game up for $7.99 (60% off), so at this point (24 hours of play) it averages out that I've entertained myself playing 'Depraved' for 33 cents per hour. Hard to find entertainment cheaper than that, so I personally don't really feel it's worth complaining about (that the game is abandoned).
All in all, 'Depraved' has more cons than pros here. I recommend trying 'Depraved', BUT only if you find sandbox city-building a relaxing and enjoyable experience, AND only if you can pick up the game at a massive discount.
The game is actually kind of fun, until you finish it in a few hours. Then there's nothing else to do and its repetitive. Would be a great game had they updated it.
It's interesting to kill an afternoon or two, but not more than that. It's a pure sand box city builder, nothing fancy.
For a settlers-like management game with some fun challenges it's not bad. I feel like most of the negative reviews would be gone if they had just added a simple win condition like "Build a bank and survive for 7 years".
As it is there isn't much to do after you've built everything except to slay all the natives.
I guess that's why they named it Depraved.
What you get is sort of reskinned and rethemed Banished, but less complexe.
I have the impression, devs once wanted more for this game but lost interest. Made the basics work and said it´s done.
I bought it EA and they didn´t add anything in month but named it full release sometimes later.
Maybe some modders out there feel compelled to do a better job on this game.
But without them? As it is? Can´t recommend it.
It works, yes, but it´s boring and pretty bland. Won´t squeeze a lot of fun and gametime out of it.
too slow and heavy, bellow 25 fps, not optmized
Game is dead. Dev updates very, very rarely and when he does it's something minor. Which is unfortunate because the game had a little potential.
Game is abandoned and will very likely never be completed. Not worth $19.95. Not by a long shot. $5 maybe, but not $19.95
After a couple of hours, you've pretty much already seen all the game
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The game has enough basic functions to call it complete but there is nothing to keep anyone long term. There is no end game or even late game. you just kind of repeat the same cycles over an over again until you get bored or everyone dies. As many have said the devs have not released a patch in over a year now so it's likely they've gotten out of dodge and left this game on the dusty old trail
If you like city builders, this will be fine. Just grab it on sale as it feels unfinished.
I spent around 10 hours actually playing the game, and the next 20 hours just letting the game run in the background for the "survive for xx number of years" achievement that all city sims seem to have. This seriously needs something more aggressive than 3x speed.
Depraved is one of the templates where you have classes of citizens that require specific luxury goods for each tier of citizen, and the housing for each tier brings in increasingly more money.
The good:
+ Standard city builder with no weird quirks. Easy to pick up and play if you're familiar with the genre.
+ It's easy to visualize armed citizens with the toggle option. I was able to avoid building any military at all and just used workers with muskets to take out bandit camps.
+ Idle citizens lean against public buildings. I think this is a nice touch and is a great improvement over standing idle in the middle of nowhere. Also makes it easy to identify who doesnt have a job (and can be sent to attack bandits).
+ Only a couple bugs, none of them game breaking.
+ The luxury production buildings for citizens dont need to be strategically placed near housing. Everything gets dumped in the warehouse(s) and people come grab what they want.
The bad:
- The quantity sliders in the buy/sell/transport windows are atrocious. They're overly sensitive and fly all over the place when trying to make fine adjustments. There needs to either be an arrow to move up/down by 1, and/or a text box.
- Production caps dont seem to do anything. I'm not sure if they dont go into affect until save/load or what, but my production buildings would just make goods like there's no tomorrow and fill up my warehouses. I had better luck with blocking storage (Using goods distribution to restrict 1 stack per item, the rest gets left on the floor)
- The hunting building requires micromanagement of moving the hunting grounds for each hunter every few minutes. They hunt to extinction in about two minutes and then have nothing to do. I was constantly shuffling them around.
- Load times are quite long
Other:
~ There's no quests, unless you count the train station bounties. I'm not sure how they work as I didnt need the income from the train station.
~ No tutorial, just 3-4 small popups at the beginning.
~ Bandit camps are a bit boring and dont add much challenge once you're armed.
~ There's no option to turn off some of the alerts.
~ I dont feel this had anything different than every other city builder out there.
A bit tricky to get the hang of initially, but after watching several you tube video's got it working worth the persistence.
Good Fun, and you can dial your preferred level of drama... from total peace to utter bedlam.
Dev quit the project without saying a word.
It's a fun city builder but it does get very laggy later in the game. If the developers fixed this, it would be a really awesome game for those of us who love these kinds of games.
have you yes you ever want to get all the achevments but dont really want to work at it well this game is for you
step 1: build up your setlement to wear it is self standing ish
step 2: get in your bed
and step 3: go to sleep
step 4 wake up an use the money you saved up and stop your pepole from kiling each other
and then rinse an repeat
that is what i did and i have all achvemets
city-builders, and 'Depraved' was the first one I'd ever seen with a western theme, so I was excited to try it
settlers-like management game with some fun challenges
It's a fun simple city builder but parts feel unfinished and the last update and/or patch was about a year ago as of this review. It's not worth the latest asking price of $19.99 USD. I would recommend only if you catch it on sale for much less.
It's a bit janky looking, but it's a pretty fun city builder. Watch out for cholera.
I like city builders, so one set in the wild west seemed like a good idea.
and it was. I don't really have anything bad to say about the game, but that could also be because it wouldn't let me play for more then 5 mins at a time.
I'm not sure if it was a bug, but every time the game tried to auto save something happened, and the game crashed.
meaning I played the first 5 mins of a map abut 6 times before giving up. Even turning off the auto save option didn't stop the game from crashing.
i like the game its different and fun
I love these games. Its fun and challenging to
it gets old fast. Not much replay in this one. If you buy make sure its on sale.
I thought I'd give this game a review, since it seems to be attracting both good and bad ones at the moment.
If you don't like quests and story-lines much, but enjoy a random generated map and sandbox style city building, you'll probably enjoy this. So far I've played it in easy mode, without bandits or aggressive animals, and often without native Americans too.
That ends me up with a whole world to myself, and I can set up as many towns as I like all over the map if I choose. It's a bit of a challenge supplying multiple towns with all their needs, and it's here that trading and transporting goods is necessary as one location is unlikely to provide all your needs. You will have to use the map to your advantage, to find the best locations to set up new towns.
Your pioneers will become settlers with the right goods and housing upgrades, and supplying them entails setting up tailors, weaving mills, sheep farms, crops, distilleries, bakeries and mills and the like. Later your settlers can be upgraded to merchants, with the addition of a few more goods, that you will need to make yourself or purchase.
It's interesting enough to keep you playing, easy to learn, and any fan of city builders will probably like it as much as I did.
Empty shell of a game that was abandoned by devs. A scam in other words :/
Abandoned long before it was finished. Don't bother, it's still very incomplete.
Wild West Age of Empires, fun for a bit but gets immediately old after you unlock everything. Maps feel small and other than random natives and bandits not much to do after you have your town(s) set up.
Very boring after a while. If you want a better city building game, go with Banished.
Game abandoned Don't even bother with it. Buy Banished instead
I was really enjoying Depraved and hoping for many updates in the future. I guess not. :(
Everyone is a complainer, and you will ruin games and dreams because of it. Just got it, and played for almost 2 hours and it was worth 6 bux. Will be playing when I get home from work. Worth it.
Gr8 game. Recommended If you like city builders and wild west
Could have been good with some solid updates.... developers left it dead in the water in under a year from launch.
There are better builder colony games out there, this didn't go anywhere, no more updates. Get something better.
Just from the little bit of time I played the game, it was enjoyable. Gray Still Plays was actually broadcasting the game & it caught my interest..
Good game but the one thing I didnt like about it is you can only expand the town 3 times so if you want coal or something like that you will have to keep buying it in.
Its not the best game but I had no game issues like bugs or crashing.
I cant believe this has so low ratings. It may not be perfect but if you like city building games you'll certainly get your moneys worth. If you also like the western era you'll absolutely love it!
At first, Seemed to be just my kinda game. But how a big disappointment.
I am sorry guys, not half a banished this game is. Buy, banished, planet base or even Dawn of Man.
But this isnt it.
Bugs all over the place, Can kinda play but except stuff not to really work as expected.
The game is superb, but unfortunately it is abandoned with tons of fatal bugs (like corrupted saves etc..). I cannot understand why devs leaves da game in this unfinished state :(
Abandoned and buggy game, give it a pass.
It's fun. For a few days. Then it kinda dead ends. A little choppy, but new, so to be expected. It's entertaining and a good waste of time if you have some extra. Not a game that's going to keep you coming back week after week, yet. Let's hope there is more to come. Not unhappy I spent the money though.
this is surprisingly good, even today. its like a modernized version of the oregon trail lol its not the same of course... but if you miss the oregon trail, this might just sate your hunger. i would know i was pretty hungry. now ill be ok with a hot cup of joe n a donut or something.
I'm a rootin tootin western god
Game is okay, very casual. After about 10 hours you've probably mastered the game and can soldier on through another 10 hours before you've run out of things to do. A shame the developers have abandoned the game. It may have had potential.
