This DLC just feels overall rushed and/or uninspired. The plot and the characters are very uninteresting, too much plot-driven monologuing, and the writings are so uninspired and out of characters that it feels more like some teen fanfic than the writing of a formal game production, Daud and The Outsider especially feels like another character entirely. The new powers, weapons and level designs are alright, but frustratingly feels like they have more potential that was never realized.

This is pretty much Dishonored with updated engine. Game looks amazing maxed out, game plays exactly as i would expect it. You have 2 choices of abilities in this game however, you can play with abilities from Billie Lurk or you can choose NewGame+ which gives you abilities from Dishonored 2, and they are similar to original Dishonored. Game doesn't have too much of a story, but even with these few mission you have to complete, there is bunch of side contracts and places to explore. So if you give it your time it's gonna be worth it. I completed the game on Non-Lethal way, now I'm doing NewGame+ with full on Assault. Gotta say Assault is way more fun in this game, you have a lot of potential to pull of some crazy combos.

I loved ds1 but didnt really get into 2
Stealth in this game is very difficult just like in 2 so even though I try sneaking, I usually end up just fighting everything
its alright. depends what you are looking for

DLC deveria ser vendida como DLC não jogo standalone mais caro que o base, que tem duas vezes mais conteúdo. Mas ainda sou simp Arkane então recomendo em promoção.

Though this game is better suited towards stealth combat is still amazing with a few gadgets ready to blow the enemy into pieces

Death of the Outsider is in my opinion the smartest game in the franchise. Since all abilities are unlocked at the same time the developers were able to craft levels even better than any before in the Dishonored universe, but there is a more controversial design choice in this game: the removal of the chaos system. Or at least this games ending is not affected by it because it is very much there. Play the first level without killing anyone and you will get the best example of it still in play. I overall think this is actually used really well in this game because it allows the player to choose whether they think they should be held accountable for their actions. A central theme to this games narrative.

It's one of the games where I wish there was a 'neutral' rating. It's a Dishonored game, that's for sure, but I can't get myself to finishing this for some reason. The first two games sucked me in within 15 minutes, but this just felt out of place. Billie was my least favorite character in the entire series which didn't help matters.

It might have been good as a D2 DLC, but as a standalone, I can only say "Meh." A disappointing end to an amazing series. I'm only recommending this game because it's Dishonored at its core.

Verdict: full price is criminal a great game that i would value around $25. should likely have been dlc.
Pros:
-More wonderful dishonored content.
-a suprisingly nice group of settings all very visually interesting
-the new powers while a bit redundant are all fun especially displace
-a decent bit of side content to mess around with
Cons
-NO POWER UPGRADES. outside of a few bone charms there is NO way to upgrade your void powers. this actually hurts the game alot as the feeling of progression is almost completely lost especially when only using the same 3 powers
-new enemy type appears for 1 level and is annoying but not horrible.
-full price? no.
-lackluster "original game +" not bad by any means but could have been expanded.

Not as good as the base game. I was really excited to dig into Billie's story more, but it was not as good as I hoped. I was disappointed that they abandoned the Chaos system for this. The end choice still matters, but everything else doesn't.

This game is a buggy mess with some of the most frustrating gameplay ive experienced. Just watch a playthrough if youre a dishonored fan, its not worth it.

Another excellent entry to the series. Most of the mechanics are similar to Dishonored 2, but it introduces some new powers and gadgets that can make your life as assassin easier. It feels more like a DLC of Dishonored 2 rather than a completely new game. Despite that, it is still a Dishonored game at heart. You should definitely play it if you like any of the Dishonored games.

I do not feel like breaking down everything so I will just say I feel like it is a good way to wrap up the story of Dishonored if there isn't more to come.

Very good standalone expansion that you could theoretically play without having played dishonored 2. (but you should its excellent!) Honestly even better level design than 2, got very little negative to say about this one.

Shodan v3.0

"Dishonored" quality on a bit smaller scale - it is a stand-alone DLC after all. With that in mind, I had lots of fun with 5 missions presented here with bank part being my favorite. So smaller scale. Shorter, smaller levels with higher concentration of enemies made stealth a challange from time to time but in the end this made the game different than Dishonored 2 and we got a conclusion of series story.
My wish remains that some day we get a proper Dishonored 3 or Prey sequel instead of Deathloop or the upcoming Redfall. Times are changing and our Arkane is doing some questionable design choices lately so enjoy this gem even if it's not as immersive as main games. It's still tons of fun, 8/10

Game is great, but its iffy on the steam deck. When I put it to sleep and wake the device back up, the game will either lose all audio and have no sound, or the game will crash. Please fix this.

The Lovecraftian turned mundane, I was hoping to see more off the wall stuff considering I think the mysticism was always a strong part of Dishonored's plot. That gets toyed with but never in a more satisfying way than the quick visits into the void that pop up in other games.

The plot in general falls very flat, Billie was an ok inclusion in the Knife of Dunwall and reading about Deirdre doesn't change that I have not found her interesting since. Daud had his arc in that story as well, his presence and fixation on blaming and killing the outsider makes that arc (specifically his redemption as Corvo canonically spared him, so he had a low chaos run through D1's DLC.) The cult stuff never gripped me either and we remian in familiar places through the game, where I believe the last mission is the only wholly original one (I could be wrong) and that one is short and pretty linear.

The maps are weakened by the addition of contracts and mission structure, especially in Mission 2 there is a ridiculous amount of backtracking and the contracts also dictate how you play the game. I was going for a ghost playthrough with no detections or knockouts/kills. This is impossible with contracts, and sneaking through the bar twice in mission two with two unconscious bodies felt as cheesed as it was wasteful of my time. They're generally uninteresting gameplay wise as well. At best it becomes "loot this item" which encourages some exploration I guess, at worst it's "kill like 40 guys in one level", one which already felt undercooked.

Base gameplay is worse as well. There were a few fun puzzles or ideas with the powers, but in regular gameplay ... Semblance is very specific and I think would be better without draining mana to turn the game into a hitman experience. Freesight or whatever is a clunky replacement for darksight and the heart. Reconnaissance feels a lot less cool when it's without any consequences, is the only way to gather info aside from visually seeing the area so its needed constantly, and also extends the range of your blink so it slows down the platforming even more, with a frustrating height system that never feels clear. Speaking of blink, what a step back. Slow and clunky, partially because the issue stated above and secondly because 95% of the time blink is for taking steps to get from A to B. Does it feel good to blink to safety immediately after pinching a wallet off someones belt? Yes, but it's slowdown of all other gameplay and imprecision that never existed with older blink makes this miserable and I wish they could have combined systems.

As far as good things go, I like mission 3 mostly, I think because it lets you mostly ignore gameplay and just explore a bank with some minor puzzles. It felt like Thief, but with no tension, which is a big step down. There was a fair bit of freedom to do objectives, mission 3's infiltration being a good example. Using the gravity mines (I know I've misnamed like 20 things) to grab the bartender in mission 2 somehow without anyone noticing felt like I was really being creative with the tools given.

Overall though with Dishonored in general I feel the games try to have freedom by thinking of a lot of ways for things to happen, but it rarely feels rewarding as I'm still following the steps of the designers. The placement of vents/explodable doors are good examples of this. Also I wanted to mention how dumb the lock boxes in mission 3 are. "The owner always bragged about this 3 digit number that was important to them, they shouldn't have done that as it may be their lockbox combination!"

Death of the Outsider is probably my least favourite of the Dishonored games, but it holds a similar standing to them. Bad examples of a great genre without many contenders. That ensures I'll come back to it, but I will be grumbilng when I do so.

In my opinion, this game is the best in this game series. Especially, I like first three missions and different ways to rob a bank. Great stealth and parkour elements are awesome gameplay features.

Hollow

Getting rid of chaos system was a great decision imo. Because of that , this game seems to have more freedom when approaching a level than last 2 games.

The levels themselves are good and the fact that one of them is reused doesnt hinder from the experience overall.

New Void powers are great but i love old ones more( you can use powers from old games after completing the game once)

i have a fairly high powered system so cant say anything about performance other than the fact that it played smoothly for me

I am a 52 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single farther to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

It's like a DLC to Dishonered 2 , same mechanics , story is based on the important characters of Dishonered 1 and 2.
Nice ending to the series.

As a fan of the series and a big enjoyer of stealth, I love this game. It gives us a lot of what we love from this kind of game, but in some terms, it lacks some of the old features which were present in Dishonored 2. Take this as a comparison and if you want to know more about the original games, you should look after the reviews of the main games.
I will start with the positives:
+ Amazing level design
+ Story
+ A lot of new bonecharm effects
+ Rat listening system
+ Contract system

There are also the "new" abilities, but except for some, they are in the end just the same as in Dishonored 2. And since we do not have a lot of them, you don’t even have to collect the runes to upgrade them and to drink Addermire solutions. But now to the cons.

- Some maps are used twice, some of them are the same as in Dishonored 2
- No runes and Addermire solutions
- No dynamic surrounding
- Basically no new abilities, just reskinned ones
- Graphics are the same in Dishonored 2 and this game is shorter, but for the same price

In the end, I still like the game, although it is more of a DLC, than a standalone game. For a fan of the series, it is a must-have. But if you are a new one, I recommend Dishonored 2, because it is a longer and bigger version of this game for the same price. You can consider Dishonored 1 too, but you must put up with the older graphics.

More Dishonored 2. It does not improves or does something different than the last game but you get more lore and more story from the Dishonored universe. Personally I didn't like the story. I give it a 6/10 rating and I recommend to buy the game on SALE! Not worth full price.

Semmler
Semmler

This is a good game, it didn't crash and I genuinely had a good time. It has a story unlike both games before it, the narrative is interesting and I like it for that reason.

This is like a Dishored 2's extra long DLC. Its the same game engine, same voicelines, same combat with couple new powers, some of the same maps, its just lazy to me. If you liked the earlier games then you will like this. But I can't give this a recommendation at full price, for 5$ then its a good deal. It only took me 10,3 hours to 100% achievements (that includes OG+ mode).

It's got that great dishonored level design, world building and constant sense of discovery, but on a smaller scale, more aggressive and a bit more challenging overall. Would definitely recommend it for anyone who played the earlier games and wants more.

This is a separate game about Billie Lurk. And Daud himself will help her in this. A sea of blood and dismemberment, all in its own setting.

DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions review

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks and is a spin-off to the Dishonored series

The game offers some amazing graphics and a really nice aesthetic, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is a really good stealth action game to play in short bursts!

RECOMMENDED :)

Wet Noodle
Wet Noodle

One of my favorite game series of all time but this one really missed it. The game is very short, the blink ability is categorically the worst version, and the level design has to be the worst in the series.

The last point is really what kills it for me. I got used to the new abilities and mostly enjoyed them but the level design was just awful compared to the predecessors. You'll often find the ledge you need to get to juuust out of range, making your supernatural teleporting feel next to useless and forcing you to drop to the ground and walk along other restrictively planned enemy locations that funnel you into the one or two directions you can actually go. Where the previous games would have 2-4 directions to branch off into and explore, this game railroads you into one or two, sometimes just one.

The immersion and world building also took a hit. For example, even if you use knockout gas to make everyone in the building unconscious, the manager still taunts you over the PA system (even though you find her unconscious herself 20 seconds later). You'll find articles about a man being "arrested" after you expose his crimes, even if you brutally murdered him on the same day. They did a good job of littering the game with world-building material but they clearly didn't vet the decisions trees well enough.

There was also no chaos system in this one so, while some might like the freedom this offers, I found that the lack of consequences and shortness of the game made me just not give a shit about murdering dozens of innocent guards, especially when I would get frustrated that the level design gave me almost no other choice. Lots of frustrated mass murdering from a guy that usually plays these games as the patient pacifist.

I'd usually say that it still holds the to the core of the series and fans should definitely get it, but I'm actually going to say that, if you have a hankering for Dishonored, just play the first two. This one definitely left a bad taste in my mouth because it seems like they intentionally took all the parts of the series that we loved and made them worse. Felt more like a rushed DLC than a standalone game.

It's pretty great, doesn't punish you for killing which really opens the full range of abilities.
It consists of 5 missions, 2 take place in the same sandbox but a bunch changes.
Ending is weak-ish but love the lore expansion.

Shorter and water-downed compared to 1 and 2. They even removed the skill system. What a waste of time and money.

Death of the outsider is the peak of dishonered's gameplay and story telling, it's just a shame that it seems this was just too little too late unfortunately.

The gameplay changes in DTO as I'll call it, are substantial, no more bonecharms means the player has set boundaries, the devs don't need to factor in every possible build when it comes to level design, this actually makes the stealth mechanics of the game so much better offering actual challenges and making it feel like the thief spiritual successor the original games never could be. However I do not strictly have praise sadly as much as I enjoy the gameplay, a level is reused from Dishonered 2 and a new level is used twice in a row, this wouldn't be too bad had the game had more levels however it only has 5 making it a let down at least going through 2 and DTO as quickly as I did.

I genuinely think Arkane did a great job here and I feel like this is a great high note to end the Dishonered franchise on, maybe one day they'll come back to this series but I think it's for the best that they move on and don't try to retread this series as much as I may love the franchise.

As for actually recommending this, I imagine only people who have play 1 & 2 are even looking at DTO and for them it's great, for anyone not already hooked in by the whalepunk game I'd say give it a pass.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot this they got rid of void sight effectively and replaced it with a scouting tool to check out areas ahead, this is also great since it gets rid of the piss filter void eyes gave you in 1 & 2 and doesn't absolutely destroy the beautiful texture work of this game. Since it's a scouting tool as well you're not actually doing anything while in it just looking for ways to navigate the level which is probably the biggest improvement to stealth aiding you in figuring out how to approach a situation without just quicksave and loading until it goes your way.

𝒮𝑒𝒾𝓀𝒶𝓇𝒶

An excellent standalone game that expanded more on the story and aftermaths of Dishonored 2. A surprisingly fun adventure that had me enjoying it more than the main game itself in many ways in certain aspects, which is something I never thought I would say. I found Billie Lurk to be a far more interesting protagonist than Emily and Corvo ever were in Dishonored 2, and her mission to carry out the last wishes of an aging Daud to kill the Outsider serves as a much more compelling narrative conflict. Foresight, unlike Dark Vision, in that it's not completely effing garbage to use, is actually a very beneficial skill that puts a small twist on the usual scouting ability that we know and love. Lastly, the game also has some great missions that genuinely impressed me with its presentation and level design. What more can I say? If you loved this series, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is definitely a game that deserves your attention.

My rating: 8/10
This game is absolutely a Dishonored 2 DLC, but somehow it was sold as a standalone game. The graphics, gameplay, game mechanism, even some of the levels directly come from Dishonored 2 and nothing changed.
Game is short, my first playthrough with all collectibles and no kill no alert, took me 9 hours, noted I was playing very slow. But game experience is ok, I would say enjoyable, but It feels very limited compared to Dishonored 2.

Developer knows this game is a DLC and only charges a DLC price for it. So, yeah worth the money.
Don’t expect a completely new game, or you will be disappointed. Expect a Dishonored 2 DLC with some new ability, and you will get a pretty good DLC

it is almost exactly half the content as dishonored 2 for the exact same price. mechanics are cool enough, charged crossbow shots are neato, hagpearls r funny to use, but characters remain to be ehh and the story was just sorta unsatisfying. it does away with the general themes of high/low chaos which was an interesting move on their part. if you really gotta buy it to finish off the dishonored series, get it on sale

Compared to the reasonably sensible stories of 1 and 2, the plot driving DotO is baffling, to put it mildly. To avoid spoilers, I will just say that we are getting back at someone (guess) but for the strangest of reasons and by means and leaps of logic that make zero sense. The world still has atmosphere in spades, so I just sort of let it slide.

Still, what matters more here is mechanics. As for those, all I can say is less is more. You have fewer powers but the ones you have work well and have more potential than there were levels and time enough to explore. I guess, in the early tens everything had to be an RPG and Dishonored jumped the bandwagon. I am happy they got off in time for DotO.

I absolutely love the Dishonored series, all of the games are my absolute favourite, but this one...The most bland and boring a55 game I've ever played in my entire life. No /cool/ intro, uncatchy beginning, no background story in a few hours gameplay whatsoever, no events, twists or anything that has been a must-have for the series. Another excellent installment for the franchise. The powers are a bit of an adjustment. In some ways they are more frustrating than previous installments, but in others more powerful. There are some new powers, and some twists on old ones. There are also more tools in the toolkit and you can easily and non-lethally wipe out large amounts of enemies with ease.

The story is good and wraps everything up quite nicely, though I see there are rumors of additional games in the franchise. I enjoy how the Outside lore developed as the series progressed, and I didn't quite expect it to go where it did.

The game took me 18 hours for one thorough-ish play through. Asking price is a bit high for the length, though the quality is there. I would definitely recommend it for those who enjoyed the series, but wait for a sale.

Short, but sweet. If you love Dishonored, you'll love this too.

Everything that worked in Dishonored 2 is pushed even higher here: from a more intuitive system that encourages you to use your powers more often without items to a map variety that feels focused but expansive enough. The powers here are some of the most unique in the whole series, allowing for some of the most dramatic and creative forms of gameplay the series as displayed thus far.

The story here is a bit more compelling than that of Dishonored 2, even if you haven't played Knife of Dunwall and the Brigmore Witches in Dishonored 1. Performances are phenomenal with Rosario Dawson's Billie Lurk being a perfect compliment to the world and story around her.

All in all, a great way to cap off the Dishonored series.

This was a pain.

Dishonored 1 and 2 are hands down one of my favorite games. I love stealth games like these, but this one really hurt deep inside... Who thought, this was a good idea?

I didn´t even want to play on after the first mission. Yes, the game still looks like Dishonored and probably works like Dishonored too, but it doesn´t feel the same. My main problem is those stupid skills. They just do not make any sense to me. Maybe I´m just too stupid to get them since I´m not a guy who plays games that much, but hear me out: Click twice to teleport? You can´t even tell properly where you´ll end up, because they removed the arrow to indicate if you´ll make it up this ledge or not. So what´s the point of having a skill like this, if you can´t even use it intuitively and properly? A skill to remove the camera from your head to move around freely with it? And only in a tiny space around your character and without anything to do with it? Wow... I´m sorry, but it just feels like the devs are running out of ideas. Dishonored is based on these skills, and if the skills are not intuitive to work with, then the game doesn´t work out for me.

There are still some minor problems, for example the AI of the NPCs, which made them superhuman in 2 (e.g. they could see you because you just glimpsed from behind a hiding spot). It just feels like they said: Hey, let´s take Dishonored 2, copy it, ignore the problems, because there´s no time to fix them, write a poorly thought out story about this insignificant side character from 2 and sell it as a full priced game (yeah thanks for that, this isn´t anything more than an appendix of 2).

My personal advice: play the dilogy of 1 and 2, ignore this one and avoid the sadness and anger that I went through for this review.
