this game is good in every aspect, the only problem with this game is that sometimes i have to double tap the jump button to jump once instead of twice.

10/10 - Will cook again.

Story is phenomenal. The gameplay is a bit repetitive in some parts, but it is certainly worth the time to play.
Definitely got some Undertale vibes from this game.

Overall, this takes the cake as one of the best games I've played in recent memory.
- Incredible soundtrack
- Satisfying game play
- Fantastic world-building
- A story with way more emotional impact than you would expect.
- The game was also longer than I thought it would be. There was definitely a point where I thought I was done only for there to be so much more.

I've never reviewed a game but this one earned it.

i absolutely love this game but the part where you would have to fight the monsters at the train takes 30 minutes to complete and is almost impossible to complete i tried over 4 times already hours of my life for a part of a level that is not the end boss, and i am playing at the apprentice mode, this means that the game is just to hard and the character is dumbly slow, even the sprint is useless, so perfect game with a great characters just the level planning is just horrible, the part of the train is incredibly please remove it and change it for a better level

Pretty meme-y, fairly linear, metroidvania-ish game about being a zombie that gains powers from eating "food."

This game is shockingly good and weirdly hard.

There are three difficulty settings and you can lower the difficulty if you hit a point in the game that you just aren't good enough to get pasts anymore. Unfortunately, you can't re-raise the difficulty once you get past that point, but the game is still fun either way.

The story itself is good enough to keep me reading the dialogue and the characters were engaging enough that I cared about them all.

humorous characters development, amazing soundtracks, emotional stories, fun and delightful game mechanics. Overall 100/10 better than TLOU2!

This game makes you feel like an actual friend. It's hard to not find yourself caring for the characters.
the game itself is pretty straight forward, kill things and use things to make more things to kill things and to it's credit it has a lot of different buffs and weapons but I have found myself far more drawn to the story and the people of the game than the combat. And I love bullet hell combat

Waluku

You can really tell this game had some soul poured into making it. The story is pretty basic with lots of cute characters and funny dialogue that had me chuckling quite a few times. The game-play is very simple and nothing to write home about but through very simple build-crafting with weapons/food combos helps keep the game fresh. Also there are lots of hidden collectibles throughout the game to look out for which is pretty cool if that's your thing. My only complaint is I really feel like this game could of had voice acting to help bring the characters to life but overall isn't that major of an issue for me. Also as a side note the start of the game is a little slow but give it a fair shot I promise you wont regret it.

I absolutely ADORE this game. I've rarely seen a game with so much heart, and that puts so much effort into its characters, backgrounds art, lore and general story. Seeing minor characters show up early, and then come back later in the game with some sort of character growth or transformation makes the world seem so real.

Gameplay wise its a very competent action platforming RPG with a lot of customisation via the incredible amount of weapons and food items you set up for your build. Reasonable level of difficulty, with the occasional spike in both possible player power and difficulty. if you're ever having a tough time, revise your build! There are also 3 different difficulty settings to choose from if you want it easier or harder.

There are a few minor bugs and typos you may experience in its current state (as of september 2022) but most of them are incredibly minor, like getting extra double jumps if you time them properly after a rising flame slash. I'd just recommend not revisiting major boss fights after chapter 1. Story triggers mid boss fight don't like to activate a second time, so things get wonky.

Also Simmer and Grill are cute.

I bought it for two of my friends because for some reason this is flying under the radar. This game deserves the reviews it's getting.

Absolute gem, the store page video show casing the fun combat does no justice in reflecting how fantastic all the other aspects of this game are.

Regular enemies scale appropriately, Bosses have some intense moments but checkpoints are generally right in front of them and few have taken more than two tries at the suggested difficulty.

This is a game with a story that has unexpected depth and emotional weight, but also a wide range of humor and very good character writing.

Lots of weapon types and power-ups to combo them with, a variety of styles to experiment with that all have crazy potential the more you unlock.

I look forward to finishing the story, It's been an absolute blast thus far.

This is what happens when you mix the gameplay of Terarria with the atmosphere of Made in Abyss. Really interesting story with a good sense of humor. The cooking mechanic and weapon crafting allows you to experiment with a lot of really fun different builds. Amazing game that deserves more attention!

RogueRhythm
RogueRhythm

Definitely a bit of a sleeper hit. The main weaknesses are that the pacing at the start is a bit slow and the music is pretty whatever for the most part, but it really builds on itself with a well put together story and combat that gives you enough freedom to try out different things and see what sticks. Different builds are definitely encouraged for different situations, and while there is some power disparity in different areas, it doesn't ever feel like it really takes away from the feel of the game. The humor can be fairly hit or miss, but never borders on being unbearable. Overall a fun, unexpected experience.

It's a really great game. Terraria like combat, great story(albeit a little bit rushed towards the end), and great characters. I would definitely recommend to any of my friends as this is one of the single player games I've been interested enough to finish.

This is probably one of my all-time favorite games now. The combat is amazing, the build variety you can have is INSANE which is complemented by how you can switch your build up whenever, allowing you to use the HUGE roster of unique weapons for maximum fun. All of that would be a solid 10/10 without the story here. Oh my god is the writing amazing too, though. Tons of fun, goofy, (admittedly occasionally corny) and dare I say shitpost-ey humor intercut with touching personal moments and bouts of overwhelming existential terror. THAT STORY alone would be a 10/10 VN or something. But its not just that. Its that combat and writing combined, making a total of 20/10. This game is AMAZING and DESERVES that "overwhelmingly positive".

I liked this game a lot. As I've only played the game on hard mode, I don't know if I'm bias or not but I do feel like unless you use cheese strats for bosses you won't get far. When fighting them remember to use shields and regen artifacts. Also in endgame when you get the artifact that lets you gain more summons and increase their health, pair that with the artifact that give you souls when you get hurt. Before you fight any boss raise all the summons to max, then with some careful dodging and blocking, you can watch them shred boss hp like it's nothing.

Generally game is ok. Story is interesting, design of characters is good.

In short time that I played atm, I did see some spots for fixes.. You can agree or not, but here are some of them..
-Enemies attack some times don't reach you
-Double jumps some times just dont want to get triggered
-Drops from enemies fly too far away, to the point that you would have to swim in acid to grab them..
*Dodge roll is about 2 steps long.. it just short and slow for my taste, just putted here if some one have same idea
+Bugs?? have 4 crafting items, craft one thing -3, craft other thing -1, wanted to see what crafting stuff need for other thing, accidentally crafted it (-1)
-Apply Foods some time dont work..
+Some enemies are fun to stand on

will continue to play it a bit more.. just to see story more

I bought this game on a whim and wasn't prepared for how much I loved it.
The gameplay was juuust right. The movement and combat were just the right level of engagement to keep you interested and entertained the whole way through with lots of build possibilities if you're feeling creative and some absolutely broken ones if you just wanna smash through everything.
The crafting system also hits exactly the right level because it fully gives you the feeling of accomplishment for collecting the materials you need for each recipe but never makes it feel like you're grinding for drops.
The main appeal for me was the stellar story and writing. It genuinely made me feel emotional at times. There were lots of very heartfelt conversations between characters that are so easy to love. The casual interactions between this group of friends just felt so comfortable and fun and the dramatic talks and arguments pulled super hard on the heartstrings. The comedy was also absolutely on point. The game is frankly absurd, but it never feels tired or overdone. The jokes keep changing up and it never runs out of things for you to chuckle about. Surrounding the laughs and the tears, the story starts out simple enough, as most stories do, but goes a lot of places I wouldn't have expected and kept me completely enthralled in learning more about this world and what might happen to it. There's also a fair share of commentary about a whole lot of subjects without ever feeling preachy or anything and I can respect that. Serious things happen, but overall chill vibes.
I should also mention that this game has very cute art. The character art and the pixel art, it's all fantastic.
I had a much better review earlier, but I accidentally refreshed and lost it, so I made this one a little quicker and rougher. The important thing for me to convey though is that this game is great and I absolutely would recommend it.

Helix
Helix

Some information to get out of the way, I played through the whole game after it exited early access on the hardest difficulty (executive chef) using a spear and shield combo for most of the game. Be aware that this likely affected my view on the gameplay to a degree.

The game has some ups and downs. I'll start with the best and move towards the worst.

Art
In my opinion, the art's honestly the best part of the game. The characters that come up during dialogue look great, and the enemies and environments are well made. It's clear that the devs put some time into making everything look good. There wasn't any time I was annoyed or disappointed by the visuals

Story
Wasn't bad, but I honestly wasn't a fan. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll keep it VERY simple. The game starts lighthearted without much direction and some funny jokes and banter. Eventually a serious plot springs up out of nowhere, but the game tries to keep the lighthearted feel at parts. It honestly feels like the devs didn't have any plans, realized they needed something, and rushed a main plot while haphazardly filling any hole they left. That said, my standards for story are usually pretty high, so if you like what you hear from other reviews then don't be afraid to buy the game for the story. The characters were well written, especially Simmer, Grill, and the skeleton crew. I could see them carrying the story for someone who thinks they'd enjoy it. Sadly wasn't enough for me though.

Gameplay
Honestly the biggest reason I can't recommend the game. As mentioned above, I played on the hardest difficulty, so that without a doubt played a part in my experience. The best part of the game is the combos of food and weapons. It's fun to mix and match things and see what works. Not only that, but you have a good spread of different weapons and food that can give you completely different play styles.

That's sadly where the positives end. The fights and areas between the bosses are pointless. They're not challenging or fun, even on the hardest difficulty. All the enemies in these areas can be killed nearly instantly, and I had no trouble tanking through literally every platforming part. Remember, this is on the HIGHEST DIFFICULTY. I honestly don't even know if I should complain though, because the movement can be sorta jank at times. You get a number of mobility abilities later in the game, like dashes, extra jumps, and the ability to climb walls. Sounds fun until you realize that the movement isn't very smooth. There were times I dashed and still got hit, or other times I tried to use my second or third jump, only to not have it work.

The bosses can range from being insanely easy to annoyingly unfair. Every boss can have their health shredded immediately, only for them to go into an invulnerable bullet hell phase for some reason. Now, I like bullet hells, but you need good movement to make them work. Remember the movement problems I mentioned before? Now add in some unfair patterns that can't be dodged if the boss decides to stand in a bad spot. Suddenly you have a horribly obnoxious fight where you're replaying the same boss, waiting one to two minutes to get to the second bullet hell phase, only to die from something that isn't your fault and have to do it again a number of times. The game is best at the beginning, and as you progress the chapters it honestly gets worse. The final boss is a joke, but the bosses before it are way too difficult, mainly due to the annoying RNG bullet hell parts and clunky mobility I talked about.

Pet Peeves
Just some minor pet peeves here. They don't matter enough to affect the gameplay or story, but still annoy me a little. Feel free to ignore them or read them. They honestly shouldn't change whether you'd buy the game or not.

To start, the achievements are broken. I got and made all the recipes in the game. There's an achievement for that, and I got it. There's another achievement for making the FIRST meal you can make. I don't have this achievement. Why don't I have this achievement? I don't know. I made the first meal, I have the achievement for making all the food in the game, which only ~4% of people have. But I don't have the one for making the first meal, which is required to progress in the game. ~80% of people have it, but I don't. Not only that, I beat the third chapter on executive chef difficulty, but I didn't get the achievement for that. Sorta annoying not to get it after putting all that effort into it.

Insight points. You get them from killing enemies and reading dialogue. They're used to make meals and weapons, as well as upgrading meals later on. They're pointless in the first half of the game, you always have too much. The dev clearly put them into the game as a currency for making things, realized they had no purpose, and tossed in upgrading to make them useful. Now, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that they still required insight points to craft things. It's annoying to spend all your points on upgrading a dish you already have, only for you to not be able to craft the new dishes/weapons you just got because they need 2k insight. Honestly not a huge problem, it just sucks to not have enough insight and skip a dish for the current area, only to have it immediately one-upped by another in the next.

Minor typos in the text, especially in the last chapters. Nothing big or worth complaining about, but they are there.

Summary
Game isn't bad, but I personally wasn't a massive fan. Be sure to read through some other positive and negative reviews, especially one that played a lower difficulty, to see if you'd enjoy it. If you think you'd like the story you might want to consider buying, but DO NOT buy it just for the gameplay. There's tons of similar games with better gameplay, and if you won't like the story you'll probably dislike the game like me.

I'd recommend buying the game when it's on sale, preferably for less than $9.99. I don't think the game is worth $20, but I'd be fine with what I got out of it if I paid less than ten bucks.

BLOWJOBPRINCESS
BLOWJOBPRINCESS

This game is a blast and a half to play! I haven't had this much fun in awhile, I highly recommend this, especially for the 20$ price tag (or even better if it's on sale).

The gameplay is fun, chaotic, fast paced at times, and the difficulty progresses at a reasonable pace so you don't feel like you're hitting random difficulty spikes that ruin your momentum. You start off as a lowly zombie, slowly making your way through the games story and world while collecting different items and weapons to make yourself more powerful. You also walk and move around on this 2D plane but as you progress you gain tons of freedom for movement throughout the game, which is something I liked a ton! You go from walking around to basically flying everywhere across the screen.

The weapon and item varieties are very fun and allow plenty of different play styles, whether you like ranged or melee or even magical weapons. I found myself mostly playing with the spears, guns, and magic the most because of all the fun passives that work with them from the items you can craft. The passives you can get from items modify your gameplay a lot as well, whether giving yourself new attacks with weapons, more mobility, more damage/effects, and other useful passives.

The characters are also very well done, with everyone you run into having their own distinguishable personality even if they're a random side character. The humor with NPCs and Item/Weapon descriptions throughout the game is also top notch, I was stuck laughing a good bit at many different times, just to screenshot something someone said and show a friend because it was that good. My personal favorite being Captain DUI, a real american hero. It never feels over the top or too forced as well, the story in the game has a good mix of its being silly and being more serious moments too. I usually am a dialogue skipper but I found myself not doing that for this game, and actually going along with the characters and reading what they had to say, and it was definitely worth it. I'm even going back and trying to earn all the achievements because I enjoyed it that much.

Exolden
Exolden

Gameplays a bit rough and you will either like or absolutely hate the writing.
Think a decent flash game with slightly jank controls and similar humor but made into a full game sorta. Its an alright game theres better ones for its price but dont regret playing it.

Also you should probably play on medium even though some builds can break the game since there is currently some massive jank with controllers right now. Like its just jank enough that you'd be better off using joytokey or something instead of the built in support if you insist on using a controller.

Spice
Spice

There's a surprisingly sweet and touching story hidden underneath layers of funny interactions and dialogues. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, but the story was definitely great for a casual playthrough.

Penny
Penny

There's a lot of inconsistencies to this game. Most of the time I enjoy my time playing this game, however I think it's still important to highlight the parts that I think can make or break the enjoyment of playing this game.

First, the story. It started with plenty of jokes and light-hearted moments, but then the story gets too serious it ruins the pacing and immersion. Right now I'm 2/3 done with Chapter 2, and I don't know if the plot will get better once I finish it.

Second, the movement. This game isn't advertised for platforming, so I expect the game not to be too punishing if I get the jumps wrong. However, the movement is pretty janky; I expect to be able to double jump after hugging a wall, but the game sometimes only let me do one jump. Because of this I took damage in places where I shouldn't, and it's really annoying.

Third, the difficulty. I'm playing on normal difficulty but I feel like it's too easy. In first chapter I died a few times because of the builds aren't that great, however once you transition to mid-game, the builds decimate enemies in seconds you barely take damage. Boss fights can be trivialized too, I barely get to see the boss does normal attacks as I shred their HP too quickly, I only had to react to their bullet-hell moments where they are immune to any damage until they are done with it.

Maybe grab the game during a sale, because $20 doesn't seem to be worth it considering the game isn't that long and with the problems mentioned above.

i don't know what i should write in this review, i give thumbs up this game because i love this game and i feel this game have a nice concept for linear action platformer game, if you fans of 2d action platformer games i suggest you to give a try for this game, if you curious you can buy it then try it and run stopwatch with alarm with set time less then 2 hours, if you like it then you can keep it and return to finish this game and if you don't like it then you can request for refund.

Girthystaff
Girthystaff

Ok for the price. Even on the hardest difficulty it's super easy. Story, the idea of the mechanics, enemy types are all pretty good, but the balance is really bad. Once you get a little bit of upgrades it's easy to make a near invincible 1 shot everything build just by experimenting. This makes the bosses all require an invincible phase in order to survive the super imbalanced player power, which is not a fun mechanic.

Unless you really like this type of a game I would wait for a sale.

Pretty great game.
Had this game in my library since chapter one. Back then it was a little short but over time the devs have worked hard and I think that they have come out with a pretty great final product. The story was really good. The game often had me smiling at the little jokes in the environment and dialog. The gameplay is really good, lots of different combinations of foods and weapons to try out while also having difficult enough fights to make you want to experiment to find the most powerful(and fun) build you can.

I hope the devs the best in their future projects and that whatever they make in the future will be filled with just as much love.

I don't really invest much of my time into many games, even now. I'm only about half way through, but I know i'm getting my money and time out of this game. This game feels like it was plotted out via Mad Libs. "A pair of ANIME GIRLS enlist the help of a ZOMBIE to defeat an EXTRADIMENSIONAL HORROR using COOKING and the aid of AN AI." Bizarre systems, unbalanced weapons, and hit detection so janky it feels like you're playing some 13 year old's first gaming project.

Bad controller support. Mouse and keyboard allows for strafing, running backwards while shooting.

Honestly a very good game. I didn't have much expectations for it at first, but it really grew on me. Thank you developers for this wonderful experience.

The biggest problem I have however, is the music. You have to pay a lot for the full soundtrack, and if it wasn't for that, I would say that this could be as big as Undertale.

I was enjoying the game, until a bug of respawning dead in a cycle ruined my play-through.

It was about 3/4 of the way through the game and playing through again would be annoyingly tedious. Especially since I was meticulous about finding all the crevices of hidden recipes up to that point.

The game was just getting good for me, with more recipes unlocked so that I could actually start to try to mix different builds. Now I don't even want to open the game and it is simply a regret purchase.

Definitely fun, interesting gameplay with a good story.

Game breaking bug where I spawn dead and can't do anything. 9 hours in, so not worth the effort to go back and play again.

This is not going to be a fair review of the entire game, but rather specific commentary about issues that immediately turned me off from playing it. The game does seem humorously written, and I'm sure a lot of people are enjoying it, so again, this thumbs down is intended to specifically call attention to these elements:

1. Poor main character animations - the main character moves in a very wooden and stiff manner. Walking looks extremely basic. Jumping has practically no animation associated with it, you simply go up, and the dodge roll is more like a 'lie down & flop in place." I do understand that he's a zombie... but he need not feel so lifeless and stiff.

2. Unpolished, generally poor music & sound design - I would not be surprised if the audio in this game was done either by someone who was very new in the industry, or was not done by a sound designer/composer at all. It sounds as though the audio in this game was handled by buying and hooking up random assets. The audio levels are all over the board and not properly mixed. Sometimes menu and other random sounds are extremely loud, other times the music is too loud, sometimes there are things that do not make sound at all when they should. The sounds themselves feel very 'canned'.

The music does not have a uniform style, again feeling like unrelated tracks that were sourced as separate assets rather than written for the game, and the music may start and stop in odd places. Holding down "up" will make your character infinitely bounce in place, but SFX will only play the first time. "Jumping" sounds like a strange thump.

Apologies for the rather harsh critiques.

Bad level design
Terrible movement
Bad combat
Horrible sound.....Unfortunately any anime-ish girl with a set of boobs will make every weirdo in a 1 mile radius give a game rave review marks...This game is no where near what it's rating shld be.
Also it's a unity game, if that means anything to you.

Derivative but well-built. Easy mode is Easy, Hard is hard. Combat is good. Pixel graphics are great. Story is ok.

I wasn't terribly impressed for the first hour or so of this game; it seems to focus primarily on meme centric, cheesy dialogue initially. This slowly evolves through chapter one, ending with a dark turn and instilling in you the impression that you're no longer playing a silly, lighthearted game. You're not left entirely in the dark thankfully, as the slapstick, off the wall humor persists throughout the whole experience, offsetting the dark tone of an inevitable disaster slowly approaching.

Customization is king here, and much appreciated. Builds are easy to plan and a sound strategy for whomping enemies and bosses comes fairly naturally. I sort of just stumbled into a scythe build with soul explosions, coupled with a dps secondary and it worked like a charm. Every recipe and ingredient has a clever bit of lore with it along with well made sprites. Combat is not terribly challenging, as long as you have a proper build to champion your way. Bosses don't feel unduly difficult and are each unique, bringing new mechanics to each fight.

I cannot emphasize enough the depth of the story experience here; while the game starts off silly, it quickly progresses and sinks you deep into a world filled with strife, sadness, and peril. Dialogue interactions can become very heartfelt quickly, cutting through any lighthearted tone set just minutes before. Characters are unique and interesting, each with their own piece of the overall puzzle to add, making for convincing interactions. There's just an absolute grab bag of references, philosophy, and rationale to mull over when viewing some of these scenes. While the absurd character designs can be a bit distracting, pulling you out of the moment and asking such questions as "why the hell am I listening to a living pineapple ponder the meaning of it's place in society and have an existential meltdown while being slowly crushed under the tyrannical rule of a living ice cream cone?" I've found those moments only serve to enhance the charm of the game.

If you like DEEP story combined with fast paced, satisfying combat, platforming, and build customization, it's the perfect game for you.

Gonna be honest, having completed the game, the Overwhelming Positive score is pretty surprising. The game isn't terrible but gosh is it not great. I'd been waiting years for this game to come out of Early Access and I guess I should have paid more attention to its development because it feels like the team radically changed their minds about what the game would be after Chapter 1 (of 3).

The combat feels like it belongs in a Flash game. You just sort spam wildly at enemies until they aren't there anymore. The game begins incredibly easy, and at around the 1/3 mark decides to start throwing much higher hp enemies en masse, and cranks up the projectile spam. It's not easy to read, it's not particularly interesting to fight. Then you get to the boss fights, whose healthbars are genuinely blatant lies, as they unleash big fuckall mass AOE bullethell attacks while sitting at 0 hp.

The writing has sparks of humor but there's a lot of unsatisfying crunch to get through it. The cutscenes play somewhat like a light novel, but without any dialogue options so you're just sort of around for the ride while these characters have existential crises in front of you. As you near the end of it you're somewhat beat over the head with information that was pretty easy to infer, and some dialogue goes on for much too long.

Combined with this is the unsatisfying pacing. The game doesn't take long to shed its veneer of quirky dungeon-cooker and throws itself into eldritch horror that is, and I can say this from very personal experience, just SCP fanfiction. Suddenly you're fighting waves of flesh monsters and there's no real point to it, because the materials they drop is near worthless and the XP you gain from combat doesn't have that much value.

Dont often write reviews these days, too lazy...Game was good enough for me to make an exception.

Now that Chapter 3 which I assume is the last chapter of this game is out, I feel like I can write a review now, so here goes. My apologies for the long review, TLDR; at the bottom

Before I talk about the pros and the cons I need to talk about something else for a bit. It doesn't really fit into neither the pros or the cons in my opinion so I kinda want to get it out of the way first.

Bite sized length: This point, in my opinion can be seen as a bad thing or a good thing depends on the person, this is because this game is very short at the time of this writing I spent 15 hours and I already completed the game. And while I enjoyed my time with it other people might expected this game to have more contents to offer considering the price, but outside of beating up monsters through out the game, reaching the final boss, and new game+. This game doesn't really have much contents to offer which, depends on the person. can either be a good thing or a bad thing.

Tiny bit of spoiler for chapter 3

Cons:
The translations: From what I can see, it seems like this game's main language is chinese. And because of that there are bound to be some translation errors due to the language barrier. And while I'm not entirely sure, this might applies to the other language options in the game as well.

The Final Chapter: It's almost like the chapter has been rushed, and it's a bit disappointing. For the final chapter of a game, it's really short and while the final boss's gimmick is rather interesting, it's still a letdown for me.

And now, let's look at the pros. There's not much to talk about due to the simplicity and the rather short length of the game, but it doesn't mean that these aren't great.

Pros:
Fun game play: you build your character by collecting a large variety of ingredients(which there is A LOT of, I'm sure you'll be very surprised) and cook them into various foods which then you can eat (aka equip them). These foods will grants you various buffs ranging from generic buff for your character to outright granting new attacks and play styles, these new attacks and play styles are linked to the various weapons and equipments you can use though, so it's a bit limited but the variety makes up for it in my opinion. And there are permanent upgrade you get by simply progress through the game as well.

Story: Easily the best part of the game, you started out a bit slow(to some it might feels confusing but I have no problem however), but the story continues to improve as more and more mysteries and new plot point reveals itself, then suddenly you'll quickly realize that there's more to this game than meets the eyes, the store page alone might get you interested since it does contains a bit of spoilers in it. And not to mention the comedy, which I personally really loved it. It contains jokes that references the world we lived in and it happened from time to time in the story which I think is a really nice addition to the story as a whole.

The art: Cute and charming yet it has the ability to turns into a body horror and can be quite eerily as well . If you're someone who enjoys the anime art styles, I think you'll love it.

TLDR; A fun little adventure game that you can complete in about 2 days or even 1 day if you're really good at bullet hell, the price might makes you skip the game however, but if any of the things I mentioned or the premises of the game caught your attention. Then at least I recommended that you get the game once it's on sales.

I have little to complain about; an engaging story, intense cooking, off-the-wall and gallows humor, I only find combat to be mildly repetitive because all your abilities work off your limited-size stomach, and combining a powerful defense with fun offense is difficult.

Really good game, with a great soundtrack, compelling story with loads of good humour and fun easy gameplay. The characters have incredible chemistry with each other and are a definite highlight to me. I could easily read hours of Simmer and Grill bickering with each other.
Another review described the game as 'Who spilled Lobotomy Corporation in my Dungeon Meshi' and its pretty accurate, the story gets really dark but never goes overboard and stays consistent with its themes.

The game ending is unambiguously happy and I love it!

It started as a cheerful, funny, colorful action game game. Then the madlads put a 343 Guilty Spark level in my sidescrolling-fighting-platforming-cooking game.

I was not expecting that. With it being set in a world of talking plants, chef-necromancers, and even waifu skynet, I didn't expect many of the things that happened in this exceptional game. I still loved it though.

Every part of Dungeon Munchies is spectacular. It starts off cheerful, colorful, and simple, but both its story and mechanics quickly gain depth -- yet it never loses its unique humor, and it is always fun as hell to play. This game somehow stayed cheerful and colorful even as it reached Warhammer 40k levels of "Oh my god that's messed up and so cool!" which is really impressive.

Review Part 2: The Revenge of the Walls of Text

I hadn't touched a platformer for years before I left my comfort zone much like a certain something in the game's lore, hehe and bought this because of the good marketing and excellent reviews. I'm glad I made the exception for this game.

The gameplay is utterly fantastic, with slick combat and incredibly deep build customization. Playing on the hardest difficulty, each boss fight is a battle of fine-tuning and combo-creating just as much as it is a test of reaction time. I cannot encapsulate the brilliance of this masterpiece's design with words (at least, I cannot do so concisely), so all I will do is implore you to find out for yourself.

But this game's true strength is its story. It's story of struggling to survive and stay sane in a miserable, mad world (very timely, honestly). It's a heartwarming story of friendship. It's a tear-jerking tale of sacrifice. And it also has a goddamn hilarious sideplot of revolution and a few other things which I won't hint at here. The banter between the two characters on the cover art is excellent, the world is interesting, the morality is nuanced... I simply can't get to it all. Nor should I. You can get to it all once you scroll up and click the "add to cart" button.

Go do that or I'll make you into a meal and eat you for an attack speed buff.

Final note: this is unironically Game of the Year for me (though I haven't played Elden Ring yet).

Surprisingly interesting writing. ngl I was skipping through 60% of the dialogue until near the end after the comics. Captain DUI is my hero.

What I really mean by the writing being good is that it manages to do a decent job a writing a silly game in a legitimately interesting sci-fi world. It does both and sacrifices on neither end. The sci-fi bits just keep comin too. You think "oh, it's THIS kind of a zombie world" and then it says sike, it was actually a scifi story in a fantasy story, and then it says sike it was a scifi story in a fantasy story in a scifi story, but it all builds naturally. Pretty short but well worth the time.

Shoddy and ramshackle in both its gameplay and production, which the screenshots do quite well at hiding. Plays like an extensive student project that also costs money.

The talksprites along with some of the animation and pixel art appear fine, but a significant amount of the sprites and environmental design are cheap and inconsistent looking. Enemies randomly jitter, float, slide and wobble around as if the developers couldn't even bother with programming them to believably navigate the terrain. Players attack with lazy looking limb swinging animations to awkwardly beat enemies back, haphazardly platforming away from swarms and overwhelming attacks as they desperately try to pick away at the enemy health bars whenever possible. The platforming is extremely simple yet the few mechanics that it has are sloppy and temperamental. The locations don't inspire any immersion while being so basically structured that it literally feels like a game, not a world.

Some of the story elements are interesting but a lot of them are flat and arbitrary. Everything seems so random and mashed together it's almost like a fever dream. Perhaps it's meant to be silly and whimsical but it doesn't feel like either of those at all, just amateurish and unconvincing.

This game has perhaps the worst sound design I've ever heard before. Some things that would have sounds, have sounds. But other things that would have sounds just don't have sounds. A lot of the sounds are distinctly quiet and underwhelming compared to others, while the music is so inconsistent as to be forgettable. At least one sound is extremely loud compared to everything else for absolutely no reason at all. It legitimately seems broken; it's so ramshackle between the varying volumes, absences and intensities that it straight up seems busted.

The game tries to have this whole resource gathering and item equipping thing but it's not very compelling. Enemies drop materials, new things are made with those materials, sometimes the player has to grind a little to get certain materials; and the new gear they create steadily gets stronger and stronger as the game progresses. It's not very creative and borderline not very necessary either. It's just a slightly alternative way of drip feeding new gameplay options to the player while gradually making the older ones obsolete. This whole system could easily just not be here and the game wouldn't feel much different, just less time spent in menus toggling weapons and passives that don't really make up for the awkward combat.

Even on the hardest difficult the game doesn't seem very difficult or engaging as combat just revolves around the player aggressively smacking enemies before moving away or dodging their attacks. It doesn't flow together at all and generally doesn't feel like combat either. Things are relatively easy until the game abruptly decides to be difficult, now suddenly there's a boss that flies around the room filling it with unstructured flurries of projectiles that blanket the screen until avoiding damage becomes physically impossible. If the player survives that stage the boss becomes invincible and just keeps filling the room with more projectiles until the player gets knocked out.

I really don't know what the player is supposed to do past that point and honestly I just don't care. This game already felt like a chore to play even before the developers decided to make a boss that shoots two sets of projectiles with the same attack so the player can't dodge through one without randomly getting hit by the other. If I'm going to obsessively memorize every single mechanic on a boss just for it to be beatable then I'll go do that in a better game.

Cobbled together assets that look like they were ripped from different store bought packs, sloppy combat that doesn't flow or have any sense of impact, monotonous platforming that randomly won't even cooperate with itself, low effort looking terrain that is completely boring to navigate, superficial progression mechanics that could easily not even be there and nonsensically shallow world design that reads like it was created by a randomizer.

The production quality of this game is extremely reminiscent of multiple erotic action platformer games I've seen before. The difference is that this game doesn't reward players with erotic content after they suffer through all the shoddy gameplay. The reward is just more shoddy gameplay and sometimes tolerable character dialogue, over and over until it ends.

If you're interested in finding some games that I do positively recommend they can be found on my curator page here .

Miserable Sack of Guts
Miserable Sack…

I absolutely loved this game.

The Character portraits are expressive, cute, and frequently horrifying.
The writing is funny, incredibly stupid and (at times) even quite touching.
The gameplay is loop very satisfying and fast-paced and allows for many different playstyles once you unlock enough food and weapons.

I don't know man, buy it. It's fun.

Initially checked out the game because a friend showed me the funny stretchy face lady in the preview, finished it because the game is just so delightfully goofy with wonderful characters and a fun premise.

It has a very nice variety of weapons to choose from that you can mix and match to your heart's content. Swords, spears, shields, axes, guns, lasers, bows, daggers, throwing weapons, grappling hooks, various spells, and a few others I can't remember, a whole smorgasbord to pick from and customise with all the ability granting munchies you can shove down your gullet, though personally I probably went for the most "boring" build of dual axe blender sustain, I still had a blast doing so anyways.

Music was quiet nice and surprisingly varied, though some of the sound effects for various elements were rather lacking but not in any way that it detracted from my experience.

The story also kept my interest and rather large in scope which is something I wasn't expecting. Not wanting to give anything away but when it ramps up it ramps up fast.

As for the game's art, man oh man did it take me by surprise at just the variety of enemies and the amazing backgrounds it has going on, and that's not even mentioning all the character portraits, be they goofy veggies or stretchy ghosts. (Shout out to Captain DUI)

Though I will say the game does have quite a few bugs going on still. The one I've encountered the most was when I was scrolling through my recipe list, the selected box would jump over and highlight one of the ingredients on an unfinished recipe which was annoying at times. There was another which I'm not sure how it happened, but I managed to glitch out the menus and had different and never before seen UI elements pop up and cover the screen as they refused to close. The last bug that I can recall was during the final boss. Essentially I had swap my build out on the fly because something wasn't working as intended and caused the fight to be a crapshoot on whether or not I'd die instantly from getting hit.

But all in all, for twenty bucks this game is an absolute gem. Fun game, great art, good music, and fantastic characters. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Probably my new favorite honestly.

Gameplay seems weird at first but as you go through it starts to click and become very fun to mess with.
Art and Graphics are fantastic too, you'll definitely feel immersed into the world.
Story is actually really good, at first I was skeptical but my opinion quickly shifted the more I played the game.

This game is a 9/10 for me.

Yurisbest

very fun game. some of the builds you can do are fun as hell, with a pretty wide variety of weaponry and buffs I was still experimenting at the end of the game. The story was surprisingly good, i was expecting it to just be there to push the game play but to my surprise it turned out to be well written. In all i'd say buy it if you enjoy 2D action games.

only complaint is that weapons fall off at the end of the game, unlike the power-ups provided by the food. it would be nice to be able to upgrade the weapons to still be usable.

Wahfuu
Wahfuu

A weird ass game with SOUL.

Terraria-ish combat with a lot of build variety by equipping food items. Mostly linear with a little bit of side paths for extra recipes. The story is... much more than you expect from the game, and from the first few hours.

What starts as a truly bizarre game about celebrating cooking and eating things that were all alive, including plants, quickly becomes an existential dread simulator featuring body horror. To say the game undergoes a tone shift isn't quite accurate. It's more like a tone catapult.

The writing can sometimes be a bit too corny as characters will talk at length about >THEMES OF THE GAME

Coming from the Steam Deck perspective here.

There’s a lot of good stuff here but the controller support is pretty broken. Controls are pretty wonky overall. It’s frustrating because I can see how the controls *should* work on a controller, but they’re bizarre and in some cases don’t work at all (crucially, in the cooking menus). I’d love to come back to it but I’d need to see a patch for these problems before doing so.

This is a great game so far early access, great story interesting and engaging, great combat with awesome boss fights that are reasonably tough, and a great variety of food buffs for the respective food or build you want to make,a nice soundtrack, and of course cute waifu's(although that last part isn't really the sole reason you should buy it).

Well i just played for 4 hours straight in my first sitting if that says anything. Good story, humor, fun combat, combat variation, meh soundtrack (first ch at least), and great art pretty much sum up this game. Its a metroidvania with lots of movement options. You can mix-up your playstyle using different buffs you gain from eating and craft various weapons. I love how the game is based around cooking and ingredients. The only problem I'd have with this game is the balancing issues. It's really easy to cheese some of the bosses and the shields feel broken. Certain enemies gave me a harder time than major bosses.

An absolute masterpiece of the game. The story progression is great. I feel so attached to the characters that I was on the verge of tears at some points in the game. Combat is great, music is good (espically in Snow Peak if you ask me, really set the mood). I can't wait until chapter 3!

A very solid game, well worth the price tag, especially on sale.
This game will probably take between 5-7 hours to complete. Maybe like 8-10 hours if you wanna collect all the secrets and make all the foods and weapons. (there are currently 2 chapters, at the time of this review)

tldr: would recommend 8/10. Has great potential.

story:
The lore is suprisingly deep and the story is actually quite good. I went in expecting a cutetsy anime girl cooking game, but its much more of a hack and slash platformer with an actually fairly dark story. The games writing is also very good, its entertaining and I read every line, didnt skip a single one. This game actually made me do some deep thinking, which is not what I expected going in.

Art:
the hand drawn art is definitely much better than the pixel art. the pixel art isnt bad but it isnt like exceptional either. The animations are kinda strange and once you start having many foods equipped at once, you start looking like an absolute abomination, kinda like the binding of isaac. I wish the background characters had some sort of idle animation or something, they just stand absolutely still and its not very immersive.

Gameplay:
Its basically like a hack and slash platformer where you equip different weapons and foods with different effects. I found making synergies between different foods and weapons very fun.

Difficulty:
The games not that hard if you spec out a build with good synergies its relatively easy, you can kinda faceroll most of the enemies if you build for it. there were a couple hard bosses that took me a few tries but thats it. I died like 20 times throughout the course of both chapters. The combat in this game isnt very hard. It is pretty satisfying though.

Music:
The music in chapter 1 isnt that great, I barely noticed it, but the music in chapter 2 slaps, I liked it.

Bugs.
Due to this being an early access game and a game translated to english from chinese, theres some strange working and translation errors it seems. The translation in the story seems professionally done and is overall very good, but the item and food effect description translations seem a bit weird. I couldnt really tell what they exactly did by reading them and had to go test them out. Also there are some bugs, like theres this item that says you take 10% increased damage but you actually take 100% increased damage. pretty big difference. Just from the description the item is op, but in reality its really bad. So theres just a few small things like this, I didnt encounter anything game breaking though.

The only thing I really wish they did differently was explain who tf the character you played was. Throughout the whole game I had no idea who the character I played was, I was mainly just watched the other characters develop and killing shit for them. You play a zombie so you have no personality, you also have no idea who you are except for like one 5 line flashback.

An interesting, enjoyable short indie game that I don't regret buying on sale. It has a good sense of humor, and the base mechanics are solid. I got a sense that everything was put together well, and I'll be sure to pick it up again once an update drops. Buyer be warned however, the story is not finished and it will most likely be another year before it gets another major update.

I picked this up because Simmer and Grill seemed cool and I wasn't disappointed at all. I found myself screenshotting virtually every conversation because I enjoyed all of the dialogue scattered throughout the game so much. Even knowing most of the basic plot from others, I still enjoyed every second of playing through it. I'm a huge fan of passive-based customization systems, too, and the bullet-hell/spell-card boss elements were a fun surprise.

I first saw a lets play of this game, after watching only 20 minutes of gameplay i just had to buy this game. I mean the combat is really fun, there are quite a few character builds you can try out while playing through the chapters. You can either use melee/ranged weapons, magic, summons. These Items can be buffed with Food, which you cook from materials dropped by your enemies. You can mix and match different food and use different weapons for a completely new playstyle suited to your "taste". The things that really made me fall in love with this game are, the artwork and the characters. Its so funny just seeing the characters interact with one another in such a brilliantly dumb way. And the design of the characters just hits the spot. I mean just look at some screenshots in Steam, then you know what i mean. It isn't such a long game, with the currently 2 chapters released, it took me about 7 hours to finish, while i wasn't grinding, or trying to get every Achievement.
I can't wait for the next chapter. Good job guys.

You see how it says that i've played this game for over 3 hours? That's a lie, I've never played this game once ever. From what i've seen, this game looks fantastic and i've wanted to play it for over 2 years now. And once i learned that Chapter 2 came out i decided to finally buy it.

BUt, everytime i try to open the game I'm met with a load Error 0000065432. So, i verified the files, and still nothing. I reinstalled the game, and still fucking nothing. I did everything i could think of and i just cannot get the damn thing to open. So since i can't have nice things, Steam says ive played the game for 3.2 hours even though i've never opened it in my whole life so i can't even refund it.

So what the hell do i do? I can't return it, i cannot play it, so now its just sitting on my desktop taunting me forever. May someone please tell me how to fix this because it is starting to seriously upset me.

Torgo

Pros:
- Great art design, enemies, environments. very creative.
- Challenging bosses with bullet hell sections (similar to Rabi Ribi)
- Lots of weapons and perks available, all sorts of builds and approaches.
- Fun platforming sections, great variety in the environment, secrets and such.

Cons:
- Endless boring unskippable story sequences.
- Story overall is pretty standard and uninteresting and takes up at least 50% of play time.
- Combat and movement overall feels very janky/floaty and unpolished.
- Unbalanced difficulty (most sections are too easy, then suddenly certain enemies/bosses are nearly impossible).

Not recommended at this point, though it's borderline. I really liked the game, but some of the flaws were a bit too painful. It's still early access, the dev will likely improve the game, and also I can imagine that a lot of people will still love this game. If I was enjoying the story/visual novel sequences then I probably wouldn't be so critical.

Defeat enemies, collect and cook various ingredients that drop from them, eat them to gain permanent new abilities and "passives". That is Dungeon Munchies in a nutshell.

The idea has potential. Experimenting with ability and weapon combinations are fun, the player can equip a total of 7 abilities (or passives) and 2 weapons before heading out for combat. Players can switch or mix up their style at certain cooking stations, a meal (ability) needs to be cooked only once, then it can be eaten/equipped countless times. (For some reason you don't have to cook it again, which doesn't make much sense). Weapons are crafted and are not acquired through eating. Not sure what the need for a crafting mechanic was, since both the cooking and eating mechanic are pretty much the same thing within the game.

In order to craft or cook stuff, you need to use experience points. Defeating enemies or making progress on the main story grants you XP. Most of the stuff grants so much XP that the XP-cost mechanic itself becomes questionable pretty quickly.

Combat and movement feel unpolished, some of the abilities like "climbing" are janky.

Pacing is mostly off, sometimes combats are a breeze, and sometimes fights take too long.

The level design feels stiff and uninspired, something a platformer must have been extra careful about.

Characters are cute and dialogues are fun, some facial expressions feel like a bug than a joke though.

All in all, Dungeon Munchies is ok. Cool idea but lacks "polish". I am sure the devs are working on them but I can't really recommend the game at this point.

It's unfinished but I've enjoyed it enough already that I feel I got my money's worth. I'm excited for more to come out! They also pushed a big update very recently, so the project isn't dead like lots of early access games might be.

Just note that boss fights can end up ridiculously easy if you pay attention to what food you equip. I shake up my loadout regularly to try and appreciate the many different playstyles (there's lots!), and I've found that pretty much everything breaks the game. XD The final boss in chapter 1 for example went down in ~1 minute for me, completely without damaging me because I nullified all damage. It seemed like a very well made and fun boss fight... unfortunately I didn't experience it because I was able to just ignore everything and hit the boss really hard.

I literally have never died in this game properly using the power ups. axe + hatchet + speed food = 500DPS and damage immunity. Maxing out poision and bleeding with a dagger and I'm doing 300+ poison damage for every hit, I slap an enemy once then run off and watch them just die at a distance. I'm playing at Normal (Souse Chef?) difficulty, so maybe it's better in hard mode?

Great game with funny characters that goes from having the characters giving memeable expressions to serious moments back and forth (Especially further in the story). Would highly recommend so long as you don't expect the game to be all jokes or all seriousness.

I'm not done with the first chapter yet, but so far this has been something my brain sorts right next to Undertale on the shelf. The humor is great, but what makes me like the strange assortment of characters so much has been the oddly captivating lore of the world. The RPG elements are fully realized with a simple crafting system for an array of weapons and the cooking serves as a powers set you can choose from to give you different effects. You have the options of game difficulties and it feels like from what I've experienced that you can either be strategic or more button mashy depending on what you like without being outright punished like some other games. It's one of those games that just kind of makes you happy and probably already has a strong cult following.

good game where you cook your enemies to make food that gives you perks similarly to rogue likes, without the random element(for example one plate can add a special attach for swords when you press up, or another might increase your attack speed, or even increase the number of minions you can summon with the scythe), the story is good, sparklling some darker moments between the jokes, all is complemented by the beautiful illustrations and pixel art.

TL;DR: I was inattentive and thought this game was in a genre I like more (management games). Then I thought it was just in a genre I like less but still enjoy sometimes (action RPG-platformers). Then I realized it was also in a genre I've never been able to enjoy (bullet hells). Even when I thought it was an action RPG-platformer, though, I was only having the bare minimum of enjoyment to keep playing. Needs a lot more work than just adding story or balancing existing content to live up to its potential.

I honestly thought this was one of those hybrid management game, like Recettear or arguably Stardew Valley, but when it turned out to be an action RPG-platformer (...) well, I figured that was my fault for assuming, and that such a highly-rated game at least deserves a chance (especially since I rather enjoyed Hollow Knight). There were some problems immediately apparent; just off the top of my head I recall that the GUI is basic to the point of being a turn-off, there are some graphics that would be fine for internet memes but come off as cringy in the context of this game, there was at least one typo I spotted in the tutorial, the jumping and movement felt off, many core mechanics felt disappointingly underused to the point of being gimmicky-- but at the time I felt all of those could be overlooked for one reason or another.

Indeed, fast forward to around an hour or so later, and I was kind of getting into it-- still didn't really like the controls, and the humor was mildly amusing at best, but it was charming enough in its own way. Then as I was about to beat the second boss, it suddenly turned into a bullet hell-- an unpleasant surprise for me, since I find bullet hells too overwhelming to enjoy (except arguably Enter the Gungeon, and I still haven't gotten past either of its first bosses). I gave it a fair shot anyway, and shortly enough I was able to get to the bullet hell section pronto. Unfortunately, getting past that was like hitting my face on a brick wall over and over, and I just could not bring myself to care enough to put in the effort anymore.

I hesitated to give this game a thumbs down, as many of my problems are rooted in mistaken expectations that could have been very easily corrected before I bought this game. Ultimately, though, one thing led me to post this review anyway: even setting aside that I'm not the game's intended audience, I feel that it lacks the well-honed basic experience I'd expect of any game that has an overwhelmingly positive rating. Perhaps I just didn't give it long enough for it to come into its own, but even when I thought it was just an action RPG, I was only minimally engaged-- it was fine enough to play in the moment, but I don't think I would have felt compelled to go back to it on either a gameplay or story basis.

Although unfinished really fun and quirky game enjoying it a lot.

Story is great with it being ridiculous and wack at times, the character interaction
are great make sure to speak multiple times with all NPC.
Gameplay is solid, with the loadout system allowing for mix n matching to suit your playstyle

Since still in early access not fully polished and optimised
where starting the game eats almost 4gb of ram for me which can stall or crash game

Otherwise really satisfied with the game so far currently part of the way through chapter 2

The atmosphere is great, the soundtrack groovy as vinyl, and the combat fun, once you figure it out. Cooking is not the focus of this game however.

Yvillia

The gameplay is fun although a bit repetitive after a while, however what really sells the game is the story and character interactions. The story is a really interesting take on an apocalyptic future, that just takes you on a wild ride starting with talking veggies and then slowly along the path you find twists and dark turns that makes you question if you are indeed still playing the same seemingly cheery game you were a few hours ago. The characters feel so genuine and full of emotion, and it is a genuine pleasure to get to explore the depth of the characters as you progress. This game makes you laugh and cry pretty damn well.

With that being said, while this is a roller coaster of emotion, the ride doesn't last very long currently. I finished what is out currently in about 5.6 hours (not 100% completion but caught up with the main story), so definitely will have to wait for the rest of the story. I'm excited to see what more is to come for this game!

The style of the game reminds me of "MO:Astray" - which is merely a story of a creation who keeps clearing levels in order to satisfy the creator's suicidal thoughts - but with a very much better plot!

Such a fun game, even for someone that isn't a Pro Gamer™ lol. The platforming is stellar and it's a little challenging defeating the bosses at times, but this is worth all the dying and frustration.

I just wish there was a better way to put together the lore (for people that don't play often and forget the backstory). As an example, maybe in the first chapter near the start you can pick up an empty journal? Or maybe whenever you encounter any type of machinery, you can "log in" and your character can make entries, slowly putting together the events of what happened in the past as a way to keep track of the plot.

Either way, everything that's fantastical about the world you explore in this game has a starting event, and it's interesting to gather information about! Wonderful game, please go buy and play for yourself! :D

Funny spear go brrrrrrrr (Seriously, spear build is op).

Back in 2019, I randomly stumbled upon this game on the Steam front page. I bought it, and expected nothing but "memes" from the beginning. But, it turned out to be something much more near the end.

Fast-forward to 2021, and I played Chapter 2. Nothing but good things to say about it. The new weapons/food/recipes and especially the art was astounding and a massive step up from Chapter 1.

The dialogue repeatedly goes between funny and serious (a la Yakuza) but it does it very well and doesn't ruin the flow.

I'm very glad to have played this, and I do look forward to it's completion!

If you're at all into classic Metroid style exploration with solid, simple-but-not combat, you should absolutely check this out. It's still in the works at the time of this review, but other than one minor bug and maybe a few little balance issues, it plays like a finished product.
The fight gameplay is super-fun. You get a primary and a secondary weapon, with no particular limits on what you can match with what. That in itself is very well done, as there are (eventually) tons of options, most of which are entirely functional. Where it gets really interesting is the cooking stuff. Food basically provides a set of permanent buffs that can by switched out pretty much any time. Most of the early meals are pretty simple (add more health, move faster, etc), but some of them significantly alter your entire play style and really cool combinations become possible around the midpoint of chapter 2.
The art is super fun, the writing is often hilarious, and the story...the story goes places. It goes pretty dark, but the game never forgets it's sense of humor, so it works.
Highly recommended, and I am eagerly awaiting further chapters.

I did not expect that I would actually care about this janky game, but its got so much heart put into it that I started the game on a whim and did not stop till I reached the end of the latest chapter; eagerly waiting for more.

Game literally goes from:
Cute Dungeon Crawler with a good sense of humour to
Waxing philosophy on what it means to be a sentient being, and what rights do they deserve to
HORRIFIC LOVECRAFTIAN BODY HORROR, EXISTENTIAL DREAD AND THE DEATH OF BILLIONS
And that's only the first few chapters

You go out, kill literally everything that moves and slap its carcass in between two pieces of bread and chow down, inheriting more powers. System is pretty well done with lots of synergy for every build.
The combat is similar to Terraria, with some bullet hell segments thrown in.

Story is great, with a lovable cast and interesting lore that you learn more of throughout the game. Has some real tug-at-your-heart-string moments in there.

See that big thing that says "EARLY ACCESS", yeah? It comes with all the fun that brings as well, but the Devs seem pretty intent on doing their best, so give them the benefit of the doubt.

I Will say I recommend this game, cause like 80% of the game is pretty enjoyable, its just the boss fights are horribly boring. you hit the boss and dodge the attacks, but then you enter the "we didnt know what to do to pan this out" mode. where the boss is like 99% invincible and you just have to avoid attacks. I love this game and the story is very engaging but its so hard to not have a sour taste in my mouth after some of the worst boss mechanics in modern gaming. In conclusion, waiting is not, nor will be an interesting mechanic in gaming EVER, no matter how many projectiles you throw at the player its just boring, and makes it feel less inspired.

At its current state, I would not recommend this game. The gameplay needs a lot of polishing, as it right now plays as a floaty game that a beginner could have created in GameMaker in an hour.
There is potential here, with interesting upgrade systems and great dialogue, but that unfortuantely is not enough.

Over_Infinity99

(Disclaimer: I have only played Dungeon Munchies on a single run for about 11 hours and have not experienced any life changing bugs... yet...)

Dungeon Munchies? whats that?
To start with introductions and basics, Dungeon Munchies is a game about you, a newly resurrected zombie in a vast underground city to learn magic recipes from the master chef/necromancer spirit, Simmer. She, as a necromancer, resurrects and hires you to be her student to carry on her chef legacy, from there, Simmer guides you through her orientation of three simple steps to creating magic recipes with the first chapter of her old cook book given to you. The three steps were Monster Subjugation, Ingredient harvesting, and food cooking.

This is pretty easy, oh. whats in he- AHHHHHHHHHHH
The game has you basically doing that, kill monsters around the facility, harvest their remains, use their remains to drug you up and your weapons to kill stronger monsters and explore! pretty simple, The unique part is the more you progress the story the more you can customize your load out, plus its not really that much of a grind game at all. Although, it may be boring and annoying sometimes when most of the action and control parts of the game get clunky, I would say, as everything would be straightforward and uneven difficulty. There are bosses every once in a while which spice things up since you can ether cool down or excite you when fighting them as they have a "fitting" difficulty, I guess.

I CAN SEE (HAHAHAHAHA)
Visuals are quite good and funny with each character detail, animation, and pixel graphics, though simple yet complex, it is disappointing to know that you are unable to change much in settings and the map hasn't been properly fixed. A small plus side is the game soundtracks are quite pleasant to listen to (but not boppin tho)

Did I mention a story? No? Ok!
I won't really spoil anything important other than the fact that there are only two chapters currently in the game. In my personal opinion, chapter two is better as it gives you an actual REAL story to process and understand. Chapter one shoots you with hints that wander around, " easy to notice but difficult to really understand". Each character that appears with their lines are really enjoying to read as they contribute to their personalities, the story, and a comedy to Dungeon Munchies, especially in chapter two.

Final Thoughts
Reading others reviews, I agree with the statement that the game is a little overpriced, for an unpolished sidescroller game, a whopping 15$ for this is kinda annoying, although a starting price ranging from 8-10$ would seem more fitting for the current Dungeon Munchies, it just does not have a full redeeming Touch that makes a game truly shine yet, until the game actually gets it's polishing and a finish, Dungeon Munchies is not fully recommended to buy now! but it has quite the potential to be a great game in the future. (7.5 out of 10)
(P.S. its quite amazing how far a team of three can go in about a two years time)

As of finishing Chapter 2

Great
+ Gameplay is smooth and responsive
+ Plenty of build customisation options
+ Every character is likeable
+ Writing is humorous but doesn't feel forced or over the top
+ Art is very good, both aesthetically and gameplay clarity-wise
+ Story gets the job done and doesn't overshadow characters or gameplay

Could be better
- Map design is very linear, many times you branch off for just 30 seconds to grab a new recipe but overall it's a straight line
- All boss fights have phases where they can't be damaged and it turns into a bullet hell waiting game which kills the momentum
- Music was fine, but not particularly memorable
- Some quality of life changes could be made i.e. in cooking menu, allow double clicking or dragging to change equipped foods

8.5/10
Solid game overall, worth buying now before the devs increase the price later

Not sure why some people are praising this game so much. The gameplay is simple, the concept is good, but there's a distinct lack of polish and fine tuning.

- The entire tutorial area of the game and some special cutscenes are just completely missing audio or feedback cues.
- UIs are a little rough around the edges
- Controls feel responsive but somehow janky or off
- Combat is basically nothing but "jump around spam every attack you have until the enemy is dead because they have so much health", making the game feel exceptionally monotonous and boring
- The game "supports" controller but in a pretty terrible way; the left stick controls your movement AND your aiming with an inability to fine tune aiming or even move the crosshair cursor's distance at all (which ranged weapons literally REQUIRE to function), seriously, I don't know why that isn't just bound to right stick as though it were a virtual cursor...
- The first boss battle takes several minutes not because it's difficult but because the boss has WAY too much health for the equipment you have available at that point in the game
+ Writing and humor is pretty good but to some degree that feels like it's the only thing the game has going for it sometimes.

Oh, and don't forget that this game is "Early Access" but the main public build hasn't been updated since July 2021. According to SteamDB, there's a publicly available unstable beta branch that was updated 3 months prior to this review but there's no posts about said beta it seems. Worthy of note is a depot update to a private developer beta that happened within the last two weeks prior to this review.

TL:DR; Game is a good concept that feels half-baked (ba-dum-tsh). Wouldn't recommend it unless development continues and the game gets some serious attention to polish, not just content updates. Controller support is in dire need of a look-over to address the aiming issue.
