Very bog-standard 'souls-like' arpg. Combat is pretty basic and doesn't feel too good. The plot is presented in a way similar to visual novels. Not cutscenes or animations, just pictures and text on the screen. If you're looking for a good jrpg with arpg-like combat I'd suggest the YS series, or Tokyo Xanadu instead.

+ good art
+ good and simple fighting system
+ good and detailed character models (remind me of Atelier Characters)
+ good visual style
+ Ok Soundtrack
+ different dungeontypes
+ nice and entertaining story dialogue
+ some challeging boss fights
+ good dialogues

+/- some minor bugs (text fault and repeating dialogue at certain points)

- no voice acting (thats sad)
- omg the stuttering! (see text below)
- short game

I have an 3080 RTX and so on, but the stuttering which is like 25% present cant be fixed appearently, which is sad. Some fights tend to get pretty wonky and difficult because of the stutter, which was a big downside.
I usually dont like Visual Novel Storytelling (with Neptunia Games and a few Games being the exception). But it was quite entertaining. Many quests! Combat was fun and easy to understand (sometimes you will get crushed when you dont pay attention at a certain points). Story had twists, which was good. The characters were interesting and entertaining. Fighting system was pretty polished for such a short game (for VN dev it was pretty). It was a good game which i recommend!

85/100 Chibi Points!

13/10 Claire should be in my Party! (too sad she isn't)

The game is very basic. The gameplay reminds me of Ys 8 mostly tbh. I think the game is an average budget friendly version of ys 8. The lack of funding makes the game cuts some corners such as no town roaming, no voice clips for attack commands, facial cg expression remind static and the dungeon has no creative interactivity such as puzzle or switches.

One thing I do like is the npcs which are pretty good as they are better than a lot of other modern games npcs. They have names and updated dialogue every time you progress the story and i enjoy that as legend of heroes are known for that kind of thing as well.

I do not recommend this game as it is not bad but the games it is inspired by it does not do as well or even have a different unique spin to it. Go for it if you want a cheaper and shorter alternative otherwise there are more refined jrpg action experiences out there.

While there are certainly more competently put together games out there to be purchased, you could do so much worse than this game. The dialogue between characters is fun and natural, and while the combat is, in a single word, Clunky, it's still enjoyable through and through.

Visual novel with a taste of action rpg based gameplay.
Talent tree is attractive as well.

would play as it hits my preferences: story heavy, and action type gameplay.

8/10 for an early access :)

I bought this game so I could play something light-hearted and fun, and so far (two chapters in) I'm very pleased with it.

Things I liked
1. The Art, beautifully done, and also tasteful, so many visual novel types tend to over exentuate the characters and have them wear skimpy clothing, which can get a bit annoying after a while.
2. The characters, all of them, even the NPCs are very well done, and I like all of them, even the grumpy fisherman! As for Celeste, Ruby and Valana, well I just have to say I love them all so much already.
3. The story, I am very intrigued with it and I'm really hoping that there are a lot more chapters involved! (the gallery only has two more slots, and I'm hoping this has nothing to do with the game ending soon).

Things that could be improved
1. Controls : I use a controller because I find it much more intuative than the keyboard, and sometimes Celeste will just stand there when I'm pressing the attack buttons or roll. Slightly more controller control would be much appreciated!
2. Battles : The amount of enemies concerns me sometimes, it's very easy to end up totally mobbed, and because there's only one save point per map, I've spent hours just nearly reaching the save point only to be mobbed and killed. Other than battles are fine.

Overall I've loved this game so far, and hope to enjoy it further!

When you first take a glance at Eternal Radiance in its Early Access stage on Steam, a familiar stage of any Visual Novel emanates from within, I mean, the developer and publisher's name, Visualnoveler, should give that part away. But this self-published title is looking to do more than just create a cast of memorable characters to guide the player along a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure type saga; Eternal Radiance seeks to add classic JRPG and ARPG elements to the quirky VN formula to fully realize the journey of redemption, retribution, and revenge.

Celeste is one of many squires in service to the Ashen Order, a collection of knights tasked to aiding towns with threats that aim to harm and disrupt the ways of the world. Her test to be honored and valued as a Knight of the Order is to rid the town of Ancora of a persistent goblin attack and collect an ancient artifact. These artifacts, while still unknown to their true power, have caused monster sightings and increased aggression from the monsters stationed around the artifact. As Celeste gets ever closer to the artifact, she finds partners along the way who are willing to help her in her cause (while one takes a little more than empathetic feelings to pull them in). Once Celeste and her companions finally reach the artifact, they see it stolen by a mysterious thief. What are the thief's intentions with the artifact? Who is the thief? Why do the artifacts carry so much importance? The answers to these questions are hoped to be found as they press forward, only to uncover a deeper plot that could be more sinister than they ever imagined.

With Visualnoveler having previous titles such as Anime Studio Simulator and Ascendant Hearts under their belt, the Visual Novel aspect of Eternal Radiance was never the concerning question coming in. Your standard, run-of-the-mill package is here: a bright, colorful cast of characters filled to the brim with cute expressions and interestingly varied personalities. The story line is filled with optional choices in dialogue, but the direction in which you choose doesn't look like it will vary the plot in anyway. Each town is loaded with multiple side quests that help build the lore of the town around them, but outside of speaking to characters and learning more about them, side quests boil down to fetch quests and what feel like more in-depth tutorials.

Where Eternal Radiance gets interesting is its inclusion of Action-RPG elements within its journey. Combat feels like the cutest Dynasty Warriors/Dark Souls combination you'll ever see. Celeste's fights operate with dedicated melee and ranged attacks, the basic melee attacks provide a steady source of damage while her ranged attacks pelt from afar, costing a bit of her mana bar with each shot. Celeste and her teammates, Ruby and Valana, also have four special attacks that cost mana, these range from providing heals and shields to AOE damage and heavy combo attacks. Doing enough damage fills up a Finisher meter that allows each character to unleash a devastating move that does big damage. Your standard RPG equipment are in place with different weapons, armor, and rings to acquire. These items can all be enchanted to increase multiple stats and make Celeste and her team more resilient in battle.

The combat is very Dark Souls in its open-mindedness, where Celeste can lock-on, roll (with perfect rolls evading damage and granting a dash attack), and block (with a well-timed parry blocking all damage and granting extra critical chance for a short time) with free range to where she can go. The feel of Dynasty Warriors kicks in where most attempts to establish a deep range of combat go by the wayside with how simplistic the combat is truly handled. The difficulty of Eternal Radiance is honestly just too low: for the record, I played on the standard Normal difficulty (Hard difficulty decreases the amount of damage you inflict and increases the damage you take), and every battle can be won with two buttons, the Attack and Roll button. While you have options in how to can approach combat, the basic attack can stun-lock most enemies, allowing Celeste to wail on her enemies with no response.

Enemies are near-identical, with each new area carrying the same enemy models, but a different color scheme and increased damage to match the increasing levels of the party. After an hour or two of combat, you will have seen almost every enemy in the game, and their attacks do not change. Hopefully later down the road, enemies are given modifications like resistances to physical or magical attacks to open up the multiple options of attacks available and really give the combat the variety it needs to break its monotony. The three boss battles I faced were able to temporarily jostle me awake while I was asleep at the wheel for most of the combat, and brought some interesting ideas to the table, but still required minimal effort to defeat. The inclusion of Celeste's two partners will further decrease the difficulty, since enjoyably, they are able damage dealers and don't purposely put themselves into trouble.

A weird exclusion is the current inability to switch party members in combat. As your two partners are, in RPG terms, your Rogue and Mage classes, it would've been real fun to play from their perspective. While I do like the Team Boost occasionally given out that gives the team a boost in attack, defense, or healing: the damage attack from the boost is the only option necessary since it instantly kills almost every enemy that gets hit by it. As Celeste levels up, she is awarded talent points which can upgrade certain aspects of combat, which is a nice addition and allows for some fun variety in combat; but there are currently no skill trees for Ruby or Valana.

On paper, I liked the ideas that are presented: a quirky and fun Visual Novel with a side of action to give players a little more interactivity. How these ideas are implemented, however, fall well short of what is needed. The plentiful customization in Eternal Radiance's combat felt dry and under-utilized, most ideas haven't had enough time to bake in the oven, and the difficulty doesn't feel quite high enough to really bring out the best of what's to offer. But with the full release slated for mid-2021, and near-daily updates coming through the pipeline, Eternal Radiance is hopefully on the right track to right these wrongs and release a solid product that bridges two genres that feel like they were destined for each other.

A cute Early Access game with a lot of potential.

Keywords are "Early Access." As such, this game is still in development... but I am liking what I'm seeing so far. I do see a lot of potential, and hopefully the developers will keep up the good work and deliver a great final product in the future.

The graphics and the visuals are simple yet very fitting for the anime style aesthetics, especially the cute characters during the visual novel style cut scenes. The combat is also quite simple, but still very much enjoyable. The story also seems quite simple, yet very charming... though the visual novel style dialogues can feel a bit lengthy, but it's not anything too imposing (it's actually not as bad as some people made it out to be). The sound is okay, as there are no voices and just basic sound effects and musics. The game also runs perfectly fine on my PC, with no hick ups, glitches, or anything of sort... so far. Hopefully it stays that way all the way to the final product.

If I were to have few criticisms, then it would be that the A.I. partners doesn't seem to follow me well in combat. Often times, I run into a horde of monsters, and retreat to reposition... but the A.I. partner stays locked in combat, only to get overwhelmed and die. This happened to me several times, and I kind of wish for a slightly smarter A.I. However, it's more of a nitpick as the combat isn't very hard, TBH, and once you clear out the mob, the partner gets right back up her feet... just with 0 HP, lol. Additionally, mana management feels a bit stingy, compared to the amount of monsters I have to fight in a typical engagement. The skills don't seem to hit very hard, and it's easy to get outnumbered and surrounded, so I typically end up spamming skills trying to clear them out quickly... and it's quite a burden on my MP bar and potion supply. I wish mana was a little more easy to come by, in general.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed what is offered up to this point, and I definitely recommend this game to other players. If you have a thing for an anime style action RPG, then I personally say it's worth checking out. Only word of caution from me would be to emphasize that it's still in Early Access.

And the MC is very adorable... and she wears a cute white pantsu that you can easily see during the dungeon section, lol. :3

For the most part i like the game, however there are quite a few issues.

1. the combat doesn't feel all that great, the basic attack combo moves you forward too much and you often move past your target unless you target them.

2. there seems to be a lack of a tutorial for combat explaining how things work, which with some games isn't a bad thing i just feel some times a [press for more for more info] box would be nice.

3. the level ups feel like they happen too soon, there should really be a longer interval between each level up. and there should really be a box in the corner that's more defined that shows you what stats increased.

4. i don't know if it was just my copy of the game but i didn't know i had talent points to spend, they also feel very inconsequential and kinda generic.

5. the jump very early on doesn't feel worthwhile to use, i used a jump attack at the first boss and, it was ok i just felt like it wasn't necessary for the very beginning of the game where you should be introduced to every aspect of your character and what you can do.

the game is very cute and i like how each npc has their own style of talking and they dont feel generic, I'm not by any means mad that i bought this game i just think there is room for improvement and id definitely recommend this game, its a good price.

Needs some polish and improvements, but I am writing this review based on Early Access so it is to be expected.
Pros:
Cute story, combat is decent.

Cons:
Would really like to see VAs for the story telling and better block/dodge detection for combat.

I Highly Recommend This Game, Yet it Still Has A Few Bugs Here And There, but the game is Still Great, That Just Indicates That This Game Will Be Even Better Once All The Bugs Are Gone.

good game good story. at this time 3 chapters in 8hrs looking for everything killing every enemy trying to min max the stats. i wish there was a way to increase the number of hits for the ground combo and hard mode has no point when you can just switch to easy mode for faster killing and more exp for end game or new game plus. otherwise cant wait for further updates to this game, would recommend.

This game is Awesome. i love it. Good story. looking forward to see more upcoming Chapters. (26.1 hours)

edit: finished. liked a story. good ending. grinding was fun. (51 hours)

pros:

1) simple controls.
2) fun to explore new places.
3) cute characters.
4) PANTSU ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

cons:

1) leveling bit too much grindy.
2) can't save game in mid game unless you at save points.
3) if you grind a lot as forget to save data and die in between somewhere in fight all grinding will lost even level and items too.

Had this game in my wishlist briefly and then decided to buy it recently. I've played it up to the point of where there's really nothing else to do right now but wait for more updates/content to be pushed out. It's been a pretty enjoyable game so far though with it's VN like interacting and it's RPG like combat. Definitely looking forward to more things to do once hopefully more updates come.

solid, but it needs a lot of work for it to be worth after early access

- different weapon models if possible, because the action RPG sequences get repetitive
- more monster variations
- more detailed environments
- rework the skill tree entirely, as it's really awkward at the moment
- actual VA work for the visual novel sections

its far from perfect but i did enjoy my time with it. looking forward to seeing what they do with it in the future.

Wraithseeker is very quick to ask for input regarding aspects to improve with his game, he is quick to address and fix issues as they arise, and he's constantly involved with his players both on the main discord and on steam. All the signs point towards this game being a really good finished piece. I am enjoying the game as it is already, and I think its future is very bright.

This is my first time playing a game like this and I really enjoyed it! With the three chapters available right now, I am really interested in the story and I'm excited for the next chapter to come out! I thought that the gameplay itself was pretty fun as well, though, I did have some problems with it (for reference, I played this on normal on a keyboard):

1) I found the tutorial kind of lacking. One of the first side-quests you get is that you to practice Speed Rolls, Dash Charges, and Guard Counter. While I understood what I was supposed to do, it was pretty difficult to actually do them during battle. It would be better if the tutorial was more clear and maybe let you practice them to get a handle on how to do them.

2) The camera angle is really annoying sometimes. Sometimes when I'm shoved up against a wall and crowded by enemies, I can only see Celeste's head and I would have to manually adjust the camera to be able to see. As this takes a bit of time, I usually end of dying because I can't see what I'm doing or what's happening.

3) Dying is really annoying in this game. When you die, all of the enemies respawn and you lose any progress you made on killing the enemies. In the Desert Canyon, because there were so many enemies, I tried to clear them out so I could explore more easily to finish some side-quests, but I would die and then have to do it all over again. I understand if the enemies respawn when you exit and then reenter the battlefield, but I think it's better if the enemies do not respawn when you die.

4) In the dragon fight in the Aurean Tundra, the icicles, when they explode, looked like they had a hit range, so it seemed you could avoid it, but the explosion seems to hit everyone in the field, regardless of where you are. I was on the opposite end of where the icicles were, but I always got hit by them. Maybe they're supposed to be this way though, but it would be nice if it was clearer that it will hit everyone.

Among other recommendations, when reading the dialogue, I think it's better if it clearly stated that there's a dialogue history. I found it accidentally as I was randomly pressing buttons (for me it was H, but as you can change the keys, it may be different for others). I would also like it if you could change the movement keys to the arrow keys since I can't do so for some reason (though I can change the movement keys to other keys).

I am new to this kind of game, so some of my complaints may be completely normal in other games like this, so just ignore those if they are. Overall, I think this was a great game for early access and I am really excited for more to come out.

I've played enough to make my first impressions. The game plays very well, the story so far is typical og of JRPG but that is not a bad thing. The characters are very enjoyable and the combat is very smooth and the soundtrack is good as well.

Here are some things I think could improove

I really wish there was exploration in towns that wasn't in VN form but maybe the developer can't do anything about that

One thing that would be nice is voice acting. I don't know if the developer can afford VA's but it would be nice if the characters made battle noises in battle, its kind of weird having them fight and them be silent. Voice acting in cut scenes would be nice but if the whole game can't be voiced than at least important scenes would be nice to be voiced.

Another thing is I wish the weapons would change apperances when you get new equipment, I can understand why armor doesn't change as thats a ton more work.

Also since this is an all female party game (and I don't know how much of the game is written at this time) how about a romantic sub plot between Celeste and one of the girls? or maybe an NPC like the inn keeper?

Anyway these are just my thoughts, its still a great game either way and can't wait to see the end result.

KaizoShadowX | Putin's Boner |
KaizoShadowX |…

Saving at specific points being annoying. (Add the ability to save anywhere. Or just make more save points depending on how big the field is.).

Dodging. (Add tiny indicators on when the character is vulnerable and not vulnerable during the dodge. Or maybe add specific points on which the dodge is ineffective. Like the middle part of the dodge animation).

Item selection for Shops and Potions needs to have fewer steps. (Some on screen quick bar for Potions. For doing it in the inventory; when clicking on a potion, you can change which potion is selected. Instead of having to exit out the selection and selecting another.

(I’m sure this will be added soon. So dismiss this point.) Maybe an Air Dodge Animation and Effect.

Don't turn off sprint when in combat.

Ai needs to only activate when the main player is engaged in battle.

(You can dismiss this.) On the last heavy last combo attack, maybe a little knock back for stronger enemies.

The AI likes to get butt ducked by enemies a lot. (When the AI is getting attacked, maybe they can either distance themselves (If long ranged.) Or block or dodge. (If they use a melee weapon.))

Fun little game and like others have pointed out, it is quite cute and comfy.

This is basically a nice combination of good combat (nothing amazing, but fun nevertheless) and a cute VN with the main characters doing their thing. Some of the quests are kind of random but still interesting to read through. The combat, like I mentioned earlier, is nothing groundbreaking but is enjoyable and smooth and the combat areas have enough loot (worthwhile or not is more preference) to make exploration rewarding. The enchantment system and the talent tree made the RPG aspect of the game worthwhile to me, personally and the fact that you can choose which active you want as per your playstyle, is fun. Gameplay is probably the most important aspect for me in a game and I'd say I'm more than satisfied with this one, from the combat to the VN sections as well.

Graphics outside of the VN section are nice enough and I didn't encounter any visual glitches or bugs in general and I'd give it a thumbs up as well.

All-in-all, I got about 6 hours of in-game gameplay out of it and 9 hours total and I'd be willing to start a new game on hard difficulty and probably explore more or grind exp etc. If you want a break from more combat focused games and have a comfy, but fun experience, I can definitely recommend this.

I found the story line quite interesting and it kept me curious of what would happen next. Overall the combat worked smoothly, The main story and side quest worked well together. So for what has been released thus far, "four chapters" I found the game very entertaining. Enough so that i did two separate play throughs. I look forward to the next installment. Thus far the game has proven pretty much bug free. So if your looking for a stand alone Jrpg then this could be for you. Happy Gaming!!!!

An absolutely charming anime action-RPG with a very whimsical art style to it. A wonderful and pleasant break from the doom and gloom of 2020, I can scarcely imagine anything in the store right now that's as lighthearted as this. It's Mister Rogers' Neighborhood level wholesome.

Anyway, that has to be one of the hottest upskirt shots I've seen in years.

This game was fun up to a point, something casual and not too in-depth. But as you progress through the game you're forced into battles with ridiculous amounts of mob monsters, the only solution for which is pointless hours of grinding. No thanks!

As an indie game you'll find this title a little less ambitious than bigger releases, but it can be fun and relaxing, with a story and characters that are easy to get into. Just don't expect all the features of a larger-release title.

It's been a while since I've come across a genuine RPG and one centered around a female protagonist. This game is great and I love spending time in the world. Game play might me simple, and I wish the story was longer and there was more to explore, none the less, I had a lot of fun with this game and hope to see more in the future~!

stormdragon9382

As a fan of JRPG games, I found this game quite fun. The story is interesting enough and the characters have a reasonable depth to their personalities. The game has various side-quests and you can go around talking to people until you exhaust their dialogues. The dialogues also change after various events. It's always nice to see devs focusing on various npcs in game since it gives the world a bit more life.

The combat reminds me of the newer YS games a lot. Certain skills are quite powerful however, especially ranged attacks. I played this game on hard mode during my first play-through and I can say that it's easy enough if you know what you're doing. The combat however, can go bad very easily if you get surrounded by enemies and get hit by a bunch of enemy attacks. One moment everything is fine, and then you're dead soon after. So the difficulty is good enough and can kill you if you're not paying attention to the enemies.

Exploration can be fun since there are chests hidden all over the map, and you can easily miss them if you don't look for them thoroughly. Sometimes your characters interact with each other based on your surroundings, I'd be happy if there were more of those events since the exploration part can still get a bit boring after a while in big maps with similar enemy groups roaming the place.

Overall the experience was above average, nothing too overwhelming but enjoyable nonetheless. Looking forward to the 6th chapter. And perhaps another game set in this universe with the same protagonists taking on bigger challenges and going on more adventures.

It is a very good text-type RPG with action elements thrown! The combination works really well! As for the story, I love its simplicity; that is, most text-type RPGs include heavy and rough terminology, but Eternal Radiance is light. You can sit back and enjoy the conversations. Most side quests are give me that, do this and that, tell me a story, find the treasure and so on!

I fell in love with the music! Especially when you reach the Zebi Desert!

The action is quite simple; there are weapons, shields, accessories, enchanting and synthesising!

All in all, it is a very good RPG and enjoyable!

Solid hack and slash RPG. It is exactly as long as it needs to be, around 10 hours. The abilities are few and the story is so boring they developed a fast forward capability for players to skip through it. That aside, leveling is quick and allocating points to the skill tree has direct impact on combat. Speaking of combat, not as tight as it's peers like Mana or Ni No Kuni (whatever it's called) but still fun and engaging. Some of the monsters are pretty cool and some of them are tomatoes. The youths would call the entire experience cozy. 3/5: fans of the genre will dig it.

Eternal Radiance is a well thought out visual-action-rpg-novel, the story keeps you going right until the end, the graphics are good, even though in the action areas, well some of them, there is little npcs, the music is good and fits the game, the game took me around 13 hours to do and i found my self loving the game, did eternal radiance have any issue, well yes i found one. The issue i found was not unlike most games, eternal raidance found its safe zone in the combat and stayed with it, which could prove an issue for some, some games out there have safe zones of a lot posion damage, but this was not the case for this game, it was knocks backs, the games most used skill by npc's was knock back putting you on your rear, this could come from every npc, which you could find your self on the back foot or dying, lucky i died only once from it, but the game does like its safe zone of knock backs, should this stop you buying the game, the simple answer is no, the game is well worth the price and time invested in it

You can tell this game was a labor of love. I'm sad I didn't find out about the Kickstarter until after I saw this pop up here in Steam's new releases.

What caught me right off was the beautiful character artwork and general design. I'm glad I looked, because this game is turning out to be a nice little gem.

The 3-D graphics aren't AAA-level or anything, but I would say "AA" if that makes any sense. There's nothing wrong with them aside from lacking some general polish.

The 2-D artwork is, of course, beautiful and what sold me.

The musical score is great and a welcome surprise! I wasn't expecting anything too special but the music is very relaxing in towns and fields, and always fits the mood in scenes. It helps me relax, which I appreciate.

The game mechanics themselves lend themselves to a rather basic ARPG hack n' slash with some pretty standard abilities - nothing to write home about, but there's something zenlike and cathartic about it for me. You don't have to think too much to enjoy it - I enjoy thinking games as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just want to play a game to chill out. This scratches that itch for me.

So far, definitely worth the price to me. I am excited to see where else the game takes me.

A really fun RPG that does not require a long-term commitment to finishing the story, quests, and achievements. It's not a turn-based battle system either (more like KH-style). The main cast is adorable and the story seems to focus more on platonic relationships than forced romantic ones (it's refreshing, honestly - but you could argue there are opportunities for pairings). The BGM is surprisingly good and not irritating. You can certainly play through this more than once, but you can get all achievements in one go.

Things I Noticed:
-I really would recommend playing with a controller if possible - I stumbled through the final 2 or 3 chapters in one day and the final chapter leaves you pondering the possibilities of carpal tunnel setting in if you play mouse/keyboard. You could also be smart and pace yourself (not sure how likely that is for most of us).
-A few moments of rage are expected when hoards of enemies surround you and prevent efficient magic usage to heal.
-Normal and hard mode are actually challenging.
-Most "grinding" for levels occurred while exploring required maps, so I didn't feel like leveling up was a chore (on normal difficulty).
-I was not a huge fan of the lock-on feature other than targeting long distance enemies for spells. I could just be terrible with coordination on my keyboard however.
-Dodge roll!

Okay, so this is my initial first impression after having played the game for about two hours or so.

[Short Version]
Pros:
- Beautiful Artwork
- Good Sound Tracks
- Likeable Characters
- Story
- Abilities and Skill Tree
- Low hardware requirements
- No bugs, yet.
- Side quests, are simple, fast and an easy way to gain items.

Cons:
- Walking animation is weird. The animation seems to play too slowly compared to the characters world space translation.
- No sound fx when dodging
- No voice acting
- Camera feels a bit off
- No 21:9 support

[ Long Version ]

Eternal Radiance is a very nice and pleasant JRPG with an interesting cast of characters. The story is well thought out and the characters are believable. There are some weird gameplay quirks that are noticeable and a bit annoying, but does not distract from the overall game. The characters, world and story are the main attraction of the game and it shows. The action gameplay is serviceable and gets the job done.

The soundtrack is good and the artwork is fantastic. However, I wish the developers would have added a bit more polish to sound effects to make the game feel more complete. Animations are not the games strong suit. Often times they look okay, but as someone who works in Computer Graphics I am prone to pick up the smaller details that others may not. Walking animation speed is off and at times it almost feels like Celeste is just translating to the next position. Spells look good. Another example, is the first boss that the player encounters in the forest. The developers have tried to implement visual queues and feedback to let the player know of some incoming attack. However, I found the tail swing animation to be too sudden.

I have not yet dived deep into enchanting and the skill tree, but considering the type of game this is it is appears to be very solid. Overall, although I do have some negative criticism towards the game I have to recommend it. It is very difficult to be too harsh on the developers considering their experience, budget and team size. The game is good and even at full price it is worth it. Just don't expect the action gameplay to blow you away. The characters and the world are the real stars here, while the story is predictable but enjoyeable.

Final_Destiny059

Buying the early access of this game, i'll be giving it a review based on someone buying this game right now with all 6 chapters released.

Celeste is a squire wanted to be a full fledged knight, after setting out for her initiation to become a knight, something eventful happens that cost her the mission and could put the world in jeopardy, so she sets out, making two new friends along the way, Ruby and Valana and set out to save the world. Theres alot more to it than that, but since this game first released, i don't want to spoil everything right off that bat.

The combat is simple compared to other games, but still is fun, though their are a couple skills that are a must, the shield negates all the damage until it either runs out or takes enough damage, healing is also priority, obviously.

The talent system which is basically just a skill tree, most of the skills you wont unlock, i put basically everything in defense since alot of useful skills were there and soring passives like regenerating health constantly, i beat the game at LV 38, doing almost all side quest but i barely even touched the offensive skill tree, getting to max level would be to much of a grind since i personally didn't see any endgame areas, especially since the game just takes you back to the title screen after the game ends, the save you made before the final boss is the save you can load.

The game took about 20 hours to beat so was a pretty long one, but i had fun, was light hearted til the end when everything started making sense and you see how severe everything truly is.

I can definitely recommend this game and for $20, a 20 hour game at this price, you get your moneys worth since most games with this length are $60, was hooked the whole time and didn't feel rushed or anything, ending nice and neatly.

Nice little RPG with great visuals and cute characters!

Ellador

Hey guys
Eternal Radiance : I was a bit reluctant at first, but being a big fan of VNs and story driven RPGs, I thought I should at least try the game, so I bought it during the holidays sale. The game seems to have been made by a tiny indie team, with probably a low budget. However, even though we can see in-game that the graphics and the animations could be better, they are not bad at all. I've seen much worse.

The drawings : Very nice, I don't see any flaws in them. They are really high-quality, beautiful, pretty and lively. The protagonists are really lovely, the short animations are really good and bring more life to them, and the secondary characters don't have any mistreatments. They all seem unique, and, even though some might look "ordinary" at last they don't all resemble each other like lifeless puppets just here to fill gaps.
I really don't find any bad points to point at.

The story : I can't say it isn't classic, but clearly it's still well written. You will uncover the story of the three protagonists little by little, and you will learn about the world well enough to see it as "lively" and not just a succession of environnements to pass through, just to go from point A to point B, and then go to point C.
Even though the story is good, it's still classic, and the game is really short, so the lore isn't exploited in all its depth, Some mysteries will remain, questions stay unanswered, and some characters could have more development.

The gameplay : The combat gameplay is pretty classic too. You have 4 skills and one ultimate. But other features are more developped. you can do a perfect guard to perform what is called a "guard counter". When you perfect guard, the next three damaged you deal are guaranteed crits. When you do a perfect roll, you then obtain a pretty high boost to movement speed, and the ability to use a dash to quickly close the gap with an opponent and damage him if you touch him with the dash. Monsters are always in packs, and sometime, they will absolutely bang you without you being able to do something. Though that is pretty rare, and most of the time rolling or guarding will keep you safe.
You have a skill tree, but only for Celeste. I was glad to see the skill tree, but I would have appreciated having one for each protagonists. You learn skills pretty fast, but past lvl 20, you will already have them all, lvl 20 corresponding approximately to the end of chapter 2, if you cleaned all areas without farming intensely. And the game has 6 chapters. You see where I am coming ? Also, Celeste has 10 or so skills (I didn't check the exact number) but the other two have 4 and 6 skills at maximum. Yeah, that's not pretty much. Plus, the attack skills (so using your weapons, like the whirlwind slash) are using magic attack stat, as well as spells (like azure shot) to do damage, when your attack stat only applies on basic attacks (both light and heavy). This lacks explanation, and the reason while it does is only said later in the game : everyone can draw mana to temporarily boost their physical abilities and do something "unnatural" (like the ice slash) but only some individuals have the potential to use magic by using said mana. and that's why the "magic attack stat" is in fact a "mana attack stat". Lastly, the max lvl is, apparently, 99. I was lvl 45 when I beat the final boss, butr I didn't farm much, and lvl 45 is enough to unlock the ultimate passives of the attack tree OR the defense tree. Don't expect to max both without a really high level. Plus, if you want to max one, you will have to invest really a low amout of points in the other, that can result in lower attack capabilities or survivability. But there are potion of regrets, if you wish to respec.
Next is the enchantment : it's a really good system, quite in-depth with subtle mechanics that can really optimize your gameplay. You can use scrolls to enchant your gear and gain more offense, defense or support capabilities. But you can fuse relics with these scrolls, to gain even more stats than with regular scrolls. A thing to know though : when you fuse a relic with a stat with a scroll that already has the same stat, you can't add the stats, but you can replace it to keep the better.
Now, the difficulty : I played the game in normal, and I really didn't die that much (except on some bosses, espescially the last boss, that is a real pain in the as with absurd skills. The fight begins to be really similar to a bullet hell when in phase 2). Most of the time, I died because I am not really good at perfect guarding/rolling, and the lock-on system isn't really optimized. the bosses are still true to their title. They can be hard, even in normal (I hate you first boss, and in your second fight I hate you more). They hurt, and are pretty mobile for the most of them. But they are not impossible. You will have a lot of potions by the end of the game, if you didn't spent them on the trash monsters.
Lastly the economy : if you don't farm at all, you will surely lack money, even if you clear all areas and open all chests. That can be avoided by farming a little and reselling all the surplus you may find (like your old gear when your re-equip yourself with more powerful one). But I think in hard mode, if you want to fully optimize your gear, you will surely need to farm. Because enchanting can cost a lot of money.

My opinion :
I clearly enjoyed the game, but i'm sad it was so short. It surely is because the team had a low budget. I loved the soundtrack, the characters and the gameplay. I've played a lot of RPGs, and clearly, even though this one isn't the best, it's clearly will stay in my mind, and I really hope the team will do a sequel or a spin-off. I want to discover what the truth behind a certain historical event is, and what or where is the source of the power of the final boss (we have an idea of what it is, but there cleary is something else lurking in the shadows).
I recommend the game to those who like VNs and RPGs and want a light story with lovely protagonists.

And to to dev team : Good work, I've seen AAA being much worse that your game (Hello, Mass Effect Andromeda), and I clearly am waiting your next game. Good luck and keep up the good work !

Overall 8.5/10 - Worth for the price
TLDR; If you can bear with farming and running around in empty space for a bit. It's quite a good game. If you don't, go with easy/normal difficulty enjoying CG &the story is still worth.

[Visual Art]] 10/10 - Great artwork almost every scene.
[Sound]
--[BGM] 8/10 - Quite good. But still nothing impressive. Lack of impact but not annoying.
--[SFX] 9/10 - Good work.
[Story] 9.5/10 - Great storytelling. But 'Ending' kinda rush out a little bit. Nearly is impressive.

[Gameplay] 6.5/10 - Please note that I played this on hard mode all till the end.
>Pro
- Challenging when you're undergear for the area. Mob gonna just ran over you.
- Have good amount of enemy skills/mech.
- Challenging boss(es) fight.
- Got dodge/counter mech -> get gud or get F
- Can be fun chaining combo. [Try 3 normal hit + 1 Hard hit loop combo. I think I just did fast normal atk!]
- Kawaii characters and details story for each of them nearly every time main story is progressed.

>Con
- Balance seem out of every place. For example,
# Weakest mob hit 20% of your hp and up to 40%(Not much undergear). And they throw 20s of them to you for 4 waves. (Forced event)
# enchanting system is RNG based. So [save] > [Enchan..... failed] > [Load] and loop
# enchanting up to 10 but after lv[4] it's 10 times harder to lv up
# some of enchanting mech is able to embed the stat. But it not worth doing. So I never use that part.
# Endgame you gonna end up rich because they just give you a grand all over the map. But still broke if you enchanting
- Map
# Way too empty. Not even a glass or tree growing enough. Running around farming could make you bored. And when you do, you die, waste all your exp, items you pick up, everything in vein, and back to your last checkpoint!! BE CAREFUL NOT TO DIE FROM BOREDOM(like I did... a lot).

- Skill
# There're MUST get skill upgrades based on which way you wanna build your character. I think I farm a lot and only reach lv45
# Get essential skill upgrades REALLY impact on your gameplay and make your life a lot easier.
# Party skills is lack of fun.
- Item drop
# You gonna feel rigged.
# Some drop like salt in the sea.

Tip: Always carry Teleport scroll. Else? Walk for 5 min.

Little indie gem I happen to come across thanks to a friend (Queen TY) and it gave me so many nostalgic vibes that i couldn't help but adore the game despite it's faults.

Eternal Radiance is about a girl named Celeste who happens to run into some trouble as she starts down her path of becoming a full fledged knight for a prestigious order. Her story picks up relatively fast and is mostly a pretty decently done JRPG.

The story is a little basic, but wholesome and nostalgic at best and serviceable at worst, the real draw for me where the characters. There's a pretty good amount of character development told in a Visual Novel style mixed up with pretty basic gameplay that I will get to now. Towns and dialogue take place in a VN style while combat and exploration take place in what I felt was like an amalgamation between Kingdom Hearts and the Tales of series. Gameplay is rudimentary and basic, but it gets the job done. You only really play as Celeste while the AI handles Valana and Ruby. Celeste has a mix of basic light and heavy attacks and a pretty decent aerial string to help take down larger enemies or flying critters. There's a cool synthesizing system that's a little underused, you get a lot of crafting materials that let you craft scrolls that posses a variety of stat upgrades which you can further fuse with "Relics" to attempt to slot in 4 desired stats, but feel rudimentary up until endgame which is when the bigger buffs are dropped, would have liked to seen a much more in-depth system that lets you organically buff stats and not just have to wait for endgame for em, but as it stands, it's just more flavor to the gameplay formula.

Music is great, the team did a real nice job setting up ambiance while keeping the game in a relatively positive and upbeat vibe which was appreciated for sure. Combat sounds are serviceable and I have to kinda specifically mention this but, there is absolutely no voice acting whatsoever, neither in cutscenes or in combat, which is a little odd. The environments are also very basic and lack any "modern touches".

Now, I know a LOT of the above does sound like there's a ton of negativity right, well, I think it will boil down to how much nostalgia you have towards these kinds of games. Eternal Radiance felt like an Ys game to me for the most part which I appreciated to bits, I'm a huge sucker for simple and short JRPGs that focus on a more "wholesome" story than the weary drab we see a lot nowadays, and while I get that's not for everyone (and honestly, if you're looking for this in particular, I would suggest other titles) it certainly scratched my itch for a fun, simple and short adventure with some very likeable and fun characters.

If you are not currently too picky about what you play, "Eternal Radiance" can be a great choice: it is a good game overall. So, what is the problem? Here is the list:

Unfortunately, you will spend most of your time in battles, and battle mechanics are flawed.
The fights feel a little sluggish and, which is more important, always play the same, there is literally no reason to change the chosen style or adapt in any way. The skills look interesting at first, but after a few level ups it is easy to see that, except for the +% damage, they do not affect the encounters at all. For example, the main character has a "Shield" action that creates a damage absorbing bubble, and a separate skill that makes this bubble burst when it breaks. Looks cool, right? But the AoE of the skill is so weak that it makes zero difference. Also "Eternal Radiance" is one of the games that have the concepts of dodge invulnerability and perfect guards, which makes any damage absorbing inessential, because the player simply learns to not take any hits.
The levels are trying to be immersive, but fail.
The maps are, IMHO, created with some love and they are definitely not bland, but at the end of the day the corridors are still corridors with not enough decorations to liven them up. I liked the choice of background music though.
Visual novel parts are cute, but a lot of the interactions are there only to mask the fetch quests behind them.
It works a few times, but after an hour or two I started to question the heroine's motivation to help everyone with any task, be it the monster extermination, placing a probe in a cave, or looking for a long-lost doll in the desert.

It is a pity, but the game became a chore to play for me.

It was a fun little game that I overall enjoyed. Maybe a little too much dialogue between NPC's to get the check mark but still not bad. Nothing major but a nice little story and adventure.

KGBlue Lives Matter
KGBlue Lives Matter

A fun 11 hour romp that mixes cutesy and heartwarming characters/story with weird mix of PS2 RPG and Hack and Slash/Dark Souls. Has some issues which I will talk about below but fundamentally this one is definitely a little gem that is worth picking up and far more fun than most Visual Novel/Anime games with actual gameplay and its clear there is a lot of heart in it and I hope the devs make a sequel!

Storywise, my only critiques is that in the latter half it definitely should have lent a little more into the premise they gave of Celeste questioning the knights and just how they do things that is on the web page for the game/implied in the beginning/middle of the story. The stuff with Celeste screwing her initiation up by saving the civilian and prioritizing saving Marie over the objective before running off and generally being on the outs with the Ashen Order was really fun. I feel concluding here arc by deciding being a true knight for her ideal means leaving the Order and its rules/restrictions and continuing adventuring/helping with her new friends. Would have really hammered in the coming of age story they were telling better imho. Other than that minor bit it was fine. The baddies were somewhat basic but caught me off guard a few times. Overall the story and especially its fun characters kept me engaged as the main cast meshed together well and were the highlights of the whole thing.

Gameplay wise for a Visual Novelish game it had surprisingly fun RPG tacked onto it. I played on normal and it didn't feel very grindy, as killing most the stuff I saw when initially exploring and doing the sidequests had me up to level 41-42 by the end. However, I mentioned the weird mix of Dark Souls and Hack and Slash, and while it works at times sometimes game balance felt just a bit off. You receive a blocking mechanic, but the sheer number of enemies and how hard they hit/them having knockback, as well as rolling not having a stamina cost makes playing keep away far more important, especially given how the enemies can knock you out of your attacks/spell casting very easily, and have attacks that can fuck up your day, but come in numbers reminiscent of a hack and slash. The bosses themselves come with a ludicrous amount of attacks, constant movement, and high HP pools which definitely makes it feel very bullet spongy at times especially when combined with how little you tend to actually get hit them with your sword. Again, despite what I am saying the game gives you more than enough tools to deal with this in the form of much more magic, your amazing staminaless rolls, the Affinity Attacks, and your two AI companions. Its only noticable when the enemy count really balloons in number and damage which is when I wonder where the Devs intended me to spam the magic that much to deal with it. Just don't play with mouse and keyboard unless you want Carpal Tunnel.

Huntreimu

A simple but enjoyable Action game with Visual novel elements

Personally I'd of liked to see more variety in what skills they party members learnt and in what could be done with the games enchanting system (something more then stats on top of existing stats) but outside of that. i'd say its a fair game for the asking price.

Exactly what you'd expect from this type of game when you look at the store page - in a good way.
Likeable characters, neat story, a fun albeit not complex combat system and cool boss design. However, some features such as the enhancement system seemed completely optional to me, as they didn't add anything but stats. Altering skill effects instead might have been more interesting, but this doesn't really take away from the game overall.
Can recommend for the price, the dev also actively responds in the discussions section.

I love it

This is an absolutely fantastic game--I'm just sad that it's over. That said, it ended up being longer than I expected and, in general, more fleshed out and polished than I was expecting. It certainly isn't without its flaws, but it was really fun

Story, Writing, and Characters

Pros:
-Celeste is a well-realized protagonist who isn't as archetypal as she seems at first glance
-The banter and overall dynamic between Celeste and Valana is great
-Huge amounts of optional dialogue with largely well-written side characters
-Unexpectedly interesting lore
-A story that isn't mind-blowing, but certainly isn't boring either

Cons:
-Ruby, to me personally, is the weakest writing-wise of the main trio
-More backtracking than is probably necessary
-Overall I'd say that the side characters are good, but there are definitely some duds

Visuals

Pros:
-The visual novel aspects of the game are absolutely gorgeous
-Prior to buying the game I was turned off by the gameplay graphics, but they grew on me

Cons:
-While they did grow on me, for some people, the low-end gameplay graphics may be a downside
-The UI is not very pretty and there is no artwork associated with items or gear
-Adding on to the previous point, gear has no visual effect on your character. I did not really mind this, however

Gameplay

Pros:
-Far more fun than I was expecting
-Controls feel good (I played with a controller, which I recommend)
-Itemization (enchanting in particular) is actually quite in-depth
-Celeste's talent tree is a really nice form of progression (points can be reset later on with a potion)

Cons:
-While Celeste's talent tree is great, she is the only one that has one. This was disappointing
-Your AI companions are dumb as rocks (They are still useful, though. Particularly the combo skills)
-Enemy variety is pretty low
-Bosses never respawn and they don't offer much reward
-I found the guard mechanic to be finicky and not worth using. Dodging hits entirely is far better
-Level design is decent enough overall, but the desert is absolutely awful
-Related to the last point, a more informative map would be nice (the entire desert zone is just one big empty square on the map)

Overall, gripes aside, I was incredibly pleased with this game and enjoyed it immensely. Please, please, please give it a try if you have any interest at all in this sort of game!

Should have a visual novel tag
I guess the name of the Dev should've given it away, but I thought there would be reasonable amounts of conversation in between gameplay and not almost an hour of worldbuilding or whatever before you even get to any gameplay.
I know there are people who are into this, but I got mislead by how the game was presented.

RagingG
RagingG

Fairly simple game with a straightforward story. Sometimes you'd just prefer games like these to relax with, rather than other more skills intensive games. Battle mechanic is mostly similar to other games (hackNslash, dodge/guard, skills with sp cost etc.) Liked the story and characters.

A few things that mildly bothered me:
1) Most of the bosses are just humans while the first boss ever encountered was a monster type. It gave me the false impression that there would be similar future bosses. Nope, the only other monster-type boss was the mid-boss in ice area. Kinda sad there aren't bosses like this but, the human bosses weren't bad regardless.
2) Having 99 max level cap is pretty redundant as you can pretty much clear the game with about half the level since most of your stats come from equipments and enchantments. That and end-game mobs give fairly little exp so it takes a really long time to level past 60. That leaves you with alot of non-upgraded talents upon clearing the game (I only had like 28 offensive and 15 defensive).
3)There's no continuous exploration after the story ends (really would have worked out considering celeste became a knight and she ended the story saying she can explore anywhere she wants for now.
As a gamer/completionist, these points may bother you but I don't really care about it unless I try to think really hard about the infuriating part of this game.

Overall, this game feels like a story book in which you'd randomly pick and buy off the shelf, spend a day or two reading it and feeling satisfied, but empty now that the story has ended and eventually left as part of your other book collection as you continue your journey to find another book to read. I have to thank the developer for making this game in this way such that the story is the main attention through and through when the other games I have played so far complicates the game (not complaining tho) with extra challenges, post-game content/dlc, hard/grindy achievements and the main story unfortunately becomes a progress gauge than an actual story or forgotten by its post-game content.

I probably should've gotten some more information about the game before purchasing. At first glance, it seemed like an interesting Japanese RPG game with solid graphics, combat and everything.

But when I tried it, it was awful. The combat is so stale and boring, my "High end" pc can't handle it properly, and it's limited to up to 60 fps, I believe? I'd really love to see it run on 144fps, rather than a cap of 60 or 90, whatever the cap is.

I do not recommend this game for people who seek for a solid single player with fluid and smooth gameplay.

LifeisReal
LifeisReal

I always wanted to play more hack n slash games with a level up system and simple enchantments, and this game was great enough to keep me occupied. The world is one giant island with different regions you can travel around, but for the towns, you have a menu to select which NPC to speak to, or if you want to shop instead. Thankfully, this saves alot of time from exploring a town to find an NPC, but be warned that there is ALOT of talking in the game. You can only control the main character, Celeste, no one else.

Gameplay:
You can mash the attack button and dodge immediately afterward, which is always a plus. I'm not a fan of games that have a half second delay between one action to another. The mobs can be interrupted if you attack them while they cast a spell, but the same goes against you. Even in some boss fights, I still get injured while I'm knocked down and the boss keeps attacking me, causing me to get game over. You can enchant your 2 rings, armor and weapon, so it'll make fighting much easier.

Story:
To be honest, I skipped most of the dialogue because I wanted the game for the action, not really the story, but I was able to tell what happened with the still pictures in the dialogue windows.

Graphics:
Awesome graphics, but it feels like a playstation 2 game, with the mob designs and world structure. Plus the characters have an anime appearance to them, so I find that style very comforting to my taste.

Music:
Pleasant music, really relaxing, and I wish I could get the soundtrack. My favorite song is played in the snow area, although it sounds sad.

Overall Score: 4/5
Great gameplay, but can be finished in 13 hours game time, plus 3-4 hours of deaths to some boss fights before training. I finished the game at lv45, but struggled with the final boss fight.

Quite a fun little game. Worth the low price and 10-15 hours it takes to beat the game. The game does NOT support ultra-wide monitors natively. Use the tab button on your keyboard once in the options menu to manually change the resolution and change it into windowed mode. Will be a little difficult since you won't be able to read most of the menu options. Once you select the appropriate resolution, the game will start that way until you change it.

Fun game, enjoyed it a lot. Is pretty simplistic generally but the story comes together nicely and is rather cute.

MasterQuestMaster
MasterQuestMaster

I would call it a pretty basic RPG in the anime-style. There are a few innovative I enjoyed, like speed roll (which I preferred to countering, 100% of the time). The skill tree system is pretty basic, and unfortunately, there are no skill trees for the other party members (for now, at least).

Regarding the AI, most of the time, they would do their job. But like in most games I've seen, the AI is not smart enough to heal you outside of battle mode and they tend to die pretty easily if you let stronger enemies get close to them. Well maybe things are skewed a bit, because for most of the time, I didn't utilize the upgrade/enchantment system fully.

I don't know if I missed it, but I didn't realize the full capabilities of the enchantment system from the tutorial. And some things are kinda like "Where do I go now to apply this scroll?". Anyways, I found out that you can upgrade the level of the scrolls by feeding them different scrolls and add effects with relics, which can themselves gain added effects from other relics. After fully enchanting every ring, armor and weapon this way, the normal mobs became really easy (though I don't know if you would have the money for that in the earlier parts of the game). I like the capabilities, although it's a bit complex and possibly not that well-explained (although, as I said, I may have missed it).

The difference between this RPG and most other RPGs I've played is that the main party is all girls, so this makes for some interesting interactions. Personally, I liked the characters, and they each had their own personality with facets.

The mysteries of the story were what kept me playing, and there is definitely a lot of reveals that were interesting, so I enjoyed the story.

There were some bugs that I encountered, like the "extra dialogue" with the X button not working on Xbox-Controller, or the quest dialogues for a quest resetting themselves over time (don't know if that one was a bug or intended though). Overall very good.

This is a pretty charming "hidden gem" kind of indie game. I give it a solid 8/10, would recommend.
The main gameplay is a hack-and-slash RPG, but as the developer's name suggests, it's also part visual novel. You can expect a bit of hefty dialogue between the different areas you explore, which might turn away some people. This didn't bother me though, since I thought the story was pretty well-written and interesting, even as someone who isn't big on VNs. The art stills and soundtrack that go along with it are great, too.

If I had to really nitpick this game, I would have liked to see more enemy variety and maybe skill tree progression for the NPC main characters, rather than just the player character. Neither of these things really kept me from enjoying the game though, so I think it's still worth the buy.

I would split the review into two parts

Action RPG part

    • Combat: simple. there is no flashy juggling combo, but not as simple as just walk in to center of mobs and beat the them out (or mobs will tear you into pieces). they make things easy to pass but hard to master by adding "just timing" guarding and dodging which give players few benefits. also keeping party members alive can benefit player a lot too.
    • Grinding: not really. I did just beat all mobs in the map once every time story take me in and use best gears available at that time and didn't really have hard time. just collecting every items and chests in the map and doesn't need to farm money or item at all either. items can be bought at the shop.
    • Combat difficulty: as Normal difficulty, Normal. let me compare with Eternal Dread 2 where enemies attacks are much more hardcore where few mistake get you into few hits of attacks could kill you, the game pretty encourage player to block or evade the danger so most of enemies attacks are avoidable. as for this game, less hardcore but harder to defeat the enemies unharmed as enemies are faster and more in number, still giving player Shield skill give some room for player to take more hits. Final battle against Eldareth is still difficult tho
    • Skill/Build variances: not much. there are 3 close range, 3 long range and 2 support skills available. my play focused on close range but not sure if long range build could be really good as character's normal attacks are close ranged.

Comments

    • Some enemies I still not figured out how their attacks work, ex: Snow Wyvern when he flies and attack or something then my characters are blown, some are even down.
    • Again, Final battle against Eldareth is fun and difficult, yet only few attempts are used.
    • There should be post-end-game challenges, as well as allow players to re-battle the bosses in some places.

Visual Novel part

    • Story: well-made at first, but later part feels rushed. some points in the story still remains unmentioned, like what did Quinn do so that the port is closed, the detailed history about Alkiem, Zaneth and Artifacts, where did Eldareth found information about Shadowborn as most people still believed it's just a myth, why did Eldareth spare Quinn in the first place as if he wanted to lure Ashen Order in for some purpose, the remains of Eldareth's documents under the Shdowborn den's debris, why did Eldareth tell his true intention to Yvonne but not Kylia, and finally did Quinn know that Ruby is Zaneth's descendant
    • Artworks: cute and beautiful.
    • Soundtracks: beautiful. developer should add this as a DLC.
    • Language: no foul word. just some words are difficult for non-native English
    • Side-Stories: Entertaining, especially when they play the dramas.

Comments

    • Will there be a sequel of this? as there is no mention about Eldareth's documents and cannot confirm that all Shadowborn or other evil-willed are eliminated
    • Quinn boy is so CUTE! if not for his attitude at the middle of story tho
    • Few more artworks for post-story, like when the trio go to picnic at Verdant Plains and enjoying their time.

So to sum up, it's really good but could be better.

I really enjoyed playing Eternal Radiance and would recommend it to other players.

This is a slowed paced game, with simple moves for fighting as well as skill tree. Sometimes I need a break from stressful complex games, this fits the bill, Good story and cute to boot, with all kinds of npcs she meets on her journey.

Eternal Radiance is a fun little game that is very much worth the price tag. While it doesn't have anything revolutionary, and the gameplay is rather simple, the characters are fun and memorable and while the story isn't anything stellar, it's a heartwarming tale that I would highly recommend.

Really fun and cute RPG. The characters are really well written and have extremely good chemistry with each other leading to some wonderful moments and character interactions.
The writing hits a really nice balance with serious moments feeling tense and serious but still allowing for a lot of levity and fun in between.
Overall a really good visual novel with some fun and rather in-depth combat.
Casual playthrough took me a bit over 15 hours.
Really looking forward to seeing what else this developer decides to make!

I did purchase this product when it was on sale, and would recommend it for others.
Its not a lengthy game, i beat it in 15 hours and finished almost every subquest as well, I played on normal and honestly i think hard might have been beyond my skills to win.
I would have liked a short tutorial for the dash attack as i barely got it to work most times and was actually uncertain what i was doing that properly triggered it.
Being able to switch and control the other characters would have been a nice option as well, as i am more the ranged attacker type then tank.
But all in all, enjoyed the time i spent on the game.

Good, but pretty short and easy.
Combat and story lack depth.
A bit Overpriced.

I'm on a quest to play all the small, pretty games on Steam, and this definitely fits the bill!

It's a pretty basic Action RPG that's coupled with a charming, simple Visual Novel story. Expect gameplay where you dash around a lot, time dodges, and cast shield spells every 5 seconds, then read a lot of story as it's an ARPG/VN Hybrid.

The Small

1. 12 hours for all content!, including sidequests Perfect for a nice week or two's gaming.
2. Nicely compact ARPG gameplay, where you mostly time dodges and cast the ever-useful shield spell. I could never get the dodges right.

The Pretty

1. Charming story! The plot is pretty basic, but the characters sell the deal. The main trio have strong characterization, especially Valana and Celeste, and they're nicely introspective about themselves. The plot also offers several nice twists, and two of the three main antagonists are quite fleshed out. The story is also quite compassionate about its characters, which is always a plus.
2. Nice art! The main trio's super cute! The art is mostly tastefully done.
3. Wonderful worldbuilding! For a game that's pretty short, the writers manage to cram quite a bit of worldbuilding, especially re: the magic system. Most of the sidequests also make sense (trying to find a heat-dispelling charm for travelling the desert).

Nice game. Lacks replay value, though. Even so, you can get more hours in trying to max the character if you are into that.

Fun and relatively quick game to play on easy. They don't really explain how to use scrolls to enchant items really well and I waited until I finished the game to check the achievements and realized I had never enchanted an item - I synthesized a lot but never actually used any scrolls on my items. If you're playing this on normal or more difficult it would have probably been necessary - but on easy its a nice little hack and slash game.

Good game with a boring story

Short summary

Category Perception
Level design Cartoonish, simplistic, but a bit empty at times
Art Looks fantastic
Sound design Good soundtracks
Story Overused artifact story
Gameplay Fun, but suffers from a lot of backtracking
Bugs/glitches Runs very well. Only encountered a couple of minor glitches
Length Minimum of 10 hours if you take your time with side quests
Worth Yes, but it may not be suited for everyone

I had a lot of fun with this game. It's good, overall. However, there are a few issues that holds it back from being a fantastic title.

Despite the studio's name, the main story is ironically the weakest part. There are three major things holding it back. Let me go over those things.

1: While I like the characters, world building and cute art, the main plot with artifacts is so overdone. You cannot make this interesting anymore, period. The artifact doing something bad cliché is so dead it's not even a corpse anymore. It's a fossil.
Apart from the artifact story being dead and burried long ago, the game is overusing the "boss escape" trope so much to the point of becoming predictable. Defeating a boss only for that boss to escape at the last moment is annoying in other games. Here, it happened four times in total, and that's if I've not forgotten anything.

2: Backtracking. I spent a majority of the game feeling like I accomplished nothing, at least main story wise. You move to one area, find an obstacle (often a barrier of some kind, or just the game refusing to let you move to a certain area), go back to town, research a bit, go back again, make a tiny bit of progress, find an obstacle, repeat. I can accept this occasionally, but this game does not know any other way to make the story long enough apparently. Without the constant interruption of obstacles, this game could have been rushed in 1-2 hours, easily.

3: Bad party members. I like them as characters, but having them as combat partners leaves a lot to be desired. Both of them are primarily attackers, or at least the bowman is. Yet, all they did was dealing minor damage at best and buffing me up once in a while, and that's despite finding good gear and scrolling them. Enemies focused on me the most. The few times they actually attacked my party too, they got knocked out almost instantly. I played on normal.

This is what I would have loved to see:

- Give Valana and Ruby talent trees like Celeste and let me decide if I want to increase their damage reduction, attack power, skill power and so on

- Make enemies attack all of us equally as much, but give Valana and Ruby the ability to block and dodge like Celeste can

Conclusion

I liked most things about this game and at time I had so much fun with this. I was hooked on the gameplay and story loops so much I played this and nothing else from start to finish in three days. However, while I did enjoy this a lot, I can't help but feel frustrated due to the lack of creativity with the main story.

I've always had a soft spot for art and graphics like this and I think that really helped me look past the flaws with the plot. I will play this again someday for sure and I would recommend it to other people as well. However, if you don't really care about anime, the combat and overall art style and a good story is what drives you, this ain't it.

Machine Chaser (Preserve)
Machine Chaser…

I finally beat it after it was complete
I'd describe this game as charming and comfortable

jops

I think the game's top merits are its art and music.
The story is simple but still has enough twists for me to get invested.
Combat and the other systems such as enchanting are fun, but needs more polish.
The game's weakest point is probably the bland environments and the lack of monster variety. I truly believe this game would shine if these were addressed in a future endeavor.

Overall, I truly enjoyed the game despite its flaws.

Tales of Akleim on a small indie budget, and I mean that in the most wholesome and loving way possible

A wonderful and short action RPG packed with VN elements.
The story moves at a steady pace, the interplay of the characters in the main party is delightful and the open are ARPG combat is fast paced, albeit somewhat floaty and unpolished

Like with some other reviewers, I can say the biggest problem with this game is a strength - theres just such a criminally small amount of it.
As a player, I would love to have more party skits, more pointless story tangents, more character interactions, more side quests, more skills, more team attacks, just more of everything, to the tune of a traditional Tales 100hr RPG experience
If you never played a Tales series action RPG game before and dont really want to commit to the price or the 100+ hour experience, this game is a pretty good bite-sized alternative to try out

I hope to see more in this unverse from this developer in the future
