Well the biggest draw right away is the controls, and mapping them to a controller. Alt+Enter to make full screen isn't difficult but think resolutions should be choose-able in an options setting along with button mapping if we desire. As well as the list of controls flashing across the screen a bit too quickly there at the beginning. Then mapping them to a controller, C the enter key (well in itself C seems like an odd choice why not space bar or enter?) works. However for some reason trying to map X, the cancel and menu button does not. It is also for that reason why I think either the resolution should be mapped to 1 button rather than Alt+Enter, or an options to let us pick controls. It also says save as much as you want but... how do you save? Is it scripted when it asks you to save? Be nice if there was a way to save by choice, like in Witch's House the Black Cat lets you know where and when you can save. Unlimited saves is nice just wish I could actually save whenever I want. If this changes later I'll change this.

Well I figured it out, going into the entirety of Steams settings fixes this, not the individual game's controller settings edit for some reason, don't know if that's the game's problem? Steam? It's fixed though... That being said it took 2 hours to set up, partially Steam's fault they have crappy management especially with this new update, but the 2 hours I took to be allowed to write a review... were spent messing with controls. Now I'm back here to say it took another 2 minutes to change controls back because it completely screwed up controls in ALLLLLL my other games. Even in terms of PC controls, normally WASD are the keys people use, again space bar, esc, enter, even as a console player I know this... and yet they went with SZXC? Really needs to be an options menu to pick designations for keys and commands please.

I see no Achievements, no badges, but that's a small gripe, that and stuff in the point shop featuring your characters just gives more life to it. While this is negative for now because of the controls, it is not my over all thoughts I will give those once I have finished the game. I do not judge a game based on how it looks, but how it feels... and controls can play a big part in that, if the movements aren't smooth it can slow progress. So wait and see if the story and characters change that. So far in how it feels in terms of atmosphere, pretty good so far, huge Ib, Crooked Man, Mad Father, Witch's House, etc vibes which I'm always behind, and do believe those are big inspirations for this game if I recall? These are minor gripes not affecting my yes or no, just flavor for when making a game. Could also add a sound booth, jukebox, or some kind of sound room. Maybe a gallery showing off art for the game, character models, like Ib has that with the Museum, Mad Father has a gallery setting. Just finesse and flavor to offer more options to enjoy different aspects of the game itself.

So it is a No to recommended but hesitant because I haven't made much progress, will edit later after playing the game more.

Well I played more and got through the 1st night... and I'm stuck on the quick time event because they don't tell you what buttons to click, tried literally all my buttons on my keyboard when it's in the green. Quick times are fine, but how do you trigger them if you don't know what to click? You can't not tell the player the right buttons, or make some way to obtain the correct combination through effort. Not rely on trial and error otherwise it frustrates players. You CANNOT leave it up to random chance, you NEED to tell the player more than just hit 3 random buttons and pray it works, then say the higher the dexterity the easier quick time events are, NO I'M sorry NO, I guess I'm done playing this game because I'm just locked at this point, with no idea what to do. I can't play the game, I can't play it confidently, it's bringing me out of the experience because of this, I'm sorry but this is a terrible game. The only buttons that seem to work are ZXC, alt, ctrl, space bar, enter, and escape. Yet you click one of these once, it closes the quick time down as an incorrect response, no other keys do anything. I'm supposed to click 3 in some order? How if I don't know what it is 1, and no other buttons do anything or the ones that do count it as an incorrect response.

I'm terribly sorry to the developer I'm sure you put your heart and soul into this, but it is just frustrating me to no end. Every time I think I find an issue something new happens, and I want to like the game, it has nice animations, it has a creepy atmosphere... but that's all I can say to defend it. The brief cut scene of her trying to kick the door was funny and adorable, but... then the door mechanics with the quick time event halted my progress. I don't want to hate something, I don't like making bad comments, I try to be constructive with my criticisms... but this is just soooo frustrating. I want to like this game I really do, but it is a huge struggle so far, 4 hours in and I feel like I've made no progress because it's only been after night 1.

... well now I feel like the dumb one. Right arrow was apparently the key. Well ok then, leave my complaints up... because there still isn't a clear way of telling the player what exactly to do. It's misleading I still feel, because it says I need to hit the right inputs, and then those 3 ? mark blocks made me think oh these are unknown keys I have to hit in some random order, and the right arrow could mean the enter key just as easily. Which told me to progress I need to hit 3 random keys in some random order, best of luck. So... however that can be fixed, I would recommend doing so, maybe for the 1st puzzle have it be a different key to tell the player oh we just click say V and it unlocks the door, then a later puzzle has the right arrow, and another one has say W as an enter key. So that is my bad partially, I misinterpreted that, but still think it needs reworking to let the player know what exactly is going on.

... jesus by the end of this constantly editing the review I might as well make it a walkthrough of the game it's getting so long.

Ok for the developer is there some easier way to contact you to talk to you more directly? Because I don't think my comments popped up for you, and Steam is well complicated, I'd be happy to help, and to try and explain better if you want me to.

Cheap price. Not bad game but its incomplete at these time.
Eve of Souls: Static Pod is a pixel game which is made of 10% of horror element, 30% of adventure, 20% cuteness, 20% suspension, and 20% of hard-core challenge. lol

+Artstyle is nice and cute.
+Not particularly difficult.

-English translation still needs some work.
-Lots of action sequences which require fast reactions and input, in a game engine that is not well suited for this type of gameplay.

The Crooked Man... But with an Anime Vibe

Very cute game, has a great psychological horror aspect (reminds me of "Crooked man" and "Sandman" games) but more on the horror and "run and interact" sort of part. It has the skills features that really do influence big parts of the game and choices you make. It isn't too difficult but not a cakewalk either and the story really reels me in as i do have a soft spot for these kind of games. The only few bugs are the mistaken English translation and one bug i found where when you read the papers in the garbage can on the 2nd chapter and back out when you read the first part it all goes black. I had to exit the game and restart because it happened a few times when interacting with objects.
all in all a great indie horror jewel of a game... and can't wait to see the rest of it.. 10/10 :)

Edit: The additional updates has made my saved games unplayable. Fortunately, at least most of the bugs are fixed.

The only thing that bothers me is the walking animation. I'd prefer it to be smoother and detailed, but it's a good game nonetheless.

Just finished the available chapters in this game, I really enjoyed my time with it.
Its not too challenging and its pretty scary at some parts. A great RPG Maker horror game I would recommend to people that enjoy this sort of game.

Overall I would give it a 9/10 for the Early Access Version

offers unique puzzles in each chapter and pays homage to other RPG-style horror games (even salutes corpse party in its steam store page and has a track that sounded oddly reminiscent of cp's chapter one theme, could just be me). while still in early access and not really complete, the first three chapters were pretty enjoyable.

plot has yet to be developed, but horror and gameplay is excellent without relying on jpg jumpscares. has an engrish charm to it. while some text goes out of the box in english, it's still easy to figure out what's said.

It's not very easy to follow and understand, the translations aren't always on point so you basically have to guess what they're saying. Aside from that the art is beautiful and the story so far is interesting, it's a shame I keep getting stuck because I can't really pay attention to the story that much

Its enjoyable and really nice, that's all that I can say, though the englesh updates are kind of slow.

A great game with a lot of opportunity, I am very excited to see it grow and improve with time. The game is very ambitious, but introduces mechanics and concepts in a way that is not overwhelming. Seeing an rpg horror game take chances, try new things, and succeed is awesome.

The game, the characters, the sound and visuals, I really had a good time with it all. I strongly suggest trying it for yourself, as it promises to be an excellent finished product.

It's a well-crafted horror game with great attention to detail - at least, that's what I remember from when I tested it, but it's been in Early Access for quite some time since then. I hope the game is eventually finished. We will see.
