Really nice aesthetic but that's the only point that initially caught my attention.

After playing I can say the subtitles are not properly synced, sometimes missing (I didn't understand the ending for this reason). The story in general may be a bit forced too.

And finally, some of the levels felt too convoluted to me. I don't know if it's just me or not because I played other puzzle games such as Monument Valley (recently) and Manifold Garden which mess around with perspective and gravity respectively and I had no need for guides.

I'm not sure, maybe give it a try.

Not much to offer besides the puzzles, but the puzzles on the second half of the game are cool. The story/cutscenes are boring. I just skipped them all after the first few.

I would recommend it when it's on sale

Maya is a little girl who lives alone on a peaceful island far, far out at sea. The waves are calm, stone pillars loom out in the distance like faraway guardians, and a huge tree stands tall and strong with its roots entangling the earth. Maya isn’t completely alone though, Hestia is Maya’s floating companion cube, a quiet friend who is with her always. One day, out on the beach, something strange appears – a familiar building manifests and a puzzle appears, leading to a memory Maya has forgotten. Seek out all of the memory shards to find the truth about the island, and the secret hidden in Maya.

2-3+ hours to complete, Ever Forward is an adventure puzzle game that is short and sweet. Beautiful graphics, a great soundtrack, fun puzzles and an interesting storyline. The Island is explorable and has secrets and animals you can pet, and the puzzle domains are interesting enough and can be challenging. If a puzzle is too hard, the key for many lies in the layout and the environment. A mix between fantasy and sci-fi, Ever Forward was super fun to play and I’m glad I took a chance on it!

Short puzzle game with a story behind it, although the story is somewhat lost due to it not being translated completely to english so if you don't speak chinese you won't understand some parts of it. Only recommended on a steep sale.

I very much wanted to like this game, but unfortunately the only thing it really has going for it is the graphics. I haven't beaten the game, so I'm not sure about the story. But I got bored and frustrated by the puzzles real quick. The puzzles involve carrying blocks from one point to another while staying hidden from sentry turrets. Not only are the puzzles tedious and slow, but they are very frustrating as there is not a very clear line to the mechanics of the sentry turrets, and their line of sight. All in all, not a good game.

Cool puzzle game! Very challenging, I wasn't able to finish it (yet)...

Beautiful graphics, and so far an interesting story. You get a new glimpse at it for each puzzle you solve.

I wish the bot detection area was clearly visible. So many deaths just while testing how far you can go. Also, in the cutscenes the subtitles aren't timed too well with the speech.

Definitely recommended if you enjoy puzzles and don't mind them being timing-based :)

In simple words "complete rubbish".Don't waste time on this. There plenty good games.

Before I purchased this game, I was a virgin with no friends and no chest hair to speak of whatsoever; I considered my mere existence to be a dismal shitstain on the already tattered tapestry of human history, but all of that changed when I found Ever Forward.

I was dubious at first, I don’t generally consider myself a puzzle gamer, it was actually the title and description that struck a chord with me; I thought maybe if I could help a cartoon child move forward in her life, perhaps I could do the same for myself, still being a mental child trapped within a weak and twig-like body myself.

So I clenched in my hand a 15 dollar check I had received for filling out hundreds of hours of online surveys, money that I had originally planned to use to pay for food or possibly save up to get the termites and cockroaches out of my 5 square foot apartment; I clenched that check, my heart racing, and smashed that purchase button with the strength of a thousand suns, and boy did my investment pay off.

Upon completing my first playthrough, I instantly became a slayer, a chiseled beast of muscle and hair. My gluteus maximus has grown 7cm in muscle mass diameter since purchasing this game as I clenched my butthole and whole ass every time I was nearly detected by a sentry bot, which is basically every six seconds of gameplay. My experience with Ever Forward was basically a slow motion earthquake on my computer chair, rocking with the motion of the ocean as I continued to solve puzzle after arduous puzzle.

My first playthrough complete, I turned off my computer for the first time in what felt like millennia and dragged my now gigantic ass all over town to various local swimming pools where I would cruise, successfully, I might add, for hot moms; these hot moms were powerless to resist my newfound confidence and Adonis-like badonkadonk bod. They gravitated towards me like a riptide inside a black hole.

I’ll keep this review PG-13 for all you hot moms with hot kids out there who might be reading, but I would be remiss to mince my words, so I’ll say this: I have been fucking constantly since I finished the game to the point where I’ve been worried about my heart exploding on multiple occasions. I am getting my dick sucked right now as I write this review.

Anyway, let’s talk about the game itself.

The puzzles are hard as dick. Based on the achievement list, only 5 percent of people make it past the fourth puzzle, so if you want to kick this game’s ass, you better cancel your 2 o’clock meeting with Lauren from accounting, order in a wheelbarrow full of strap-ons off Amazon and arm yourself to fight back against the rigorous ass blasting that this game will assuredly deliver to you otherwise.

Your goal in Ever Forward instantly becomes obvious: you’re on an island that is otherwise pretty chill, but some weird alien shit is invading your island so you need to go and shove boxes up their many assholes and send their bitch asses back to the shadow realm. It’s about real estate, they’re driving your property values down. That might be some kind of allegorical allusion to society or the world we live in or some shit, but I prefer not to think too deeply about these kinds of things. Meanwhile, as you fight off the real estate demons from your world, your avatar, a jacked as fuck 9 year old girl, starts to recall memories of the events that led her to protecting this island. Gonna refrain from spoiling any of that and move on.

I found the choice of having the cutscenes being acted out by beings of light to be absolutely brilliant. The range of emotion that they were able to show off dwarves that of our own puny husks of flesh and bone, which leads me to the critiquing part of my review. My only complaint with this game is that the beings of light in the cutscenes made me jealous of their existence, despite turning my life around (I own and operate three Taco Bells now in addition to all that other shit) I have to live with the fact that I will never be an ethereal being of light, which has created a lot of new existential pain for me. Still got the hot moms tho.

All in all, 9/10; one point off for the being of light thing.

The puzzles are fun and engaging, with simple to understand mechanics and sometimes complex solutions.
It has a feature that allows you to make your own checkpoints mid puzzle, so you don't have to run through the beginning of a puzzle a hundred times because you keep making a simple mistake, more puzzle games need this feature.
If you like puzzles get it.

Ended up asking for my money back sadly. The puzzles weren't the type I personally like. I love this company and wanted to support them as I'm a big My Time at Portia fan. I will just wait for their next 'My Time at' to support them then. I do want check mark No Box only due to my personal disliking of the puzzle type, but because the story and graphics being amazing, I decided to check the Yes Box. The story really had me wanting to keep playing. The dev were very understanding and kind. Thank you very much.

First off I want to say I got this game as a bundle with the soundtrack and additional puzzle for $13.50 USD including tax.

So the majority of the puzzles are good... until they start making you wait which only gets worse as the levels progress. There was not too many puzzles and I have yet to try the additional puzzle but it took me less than 3 hours to beat the base game (with a little help from a walk-through) Each level you beat you get an achievement which is named along with what happens in the story. I kind of wish they added new enemies other than just the "Roundy-bots".

The game is beautiful and the story is pretty good. I do wish that they explained what happened with the world, the most you get is "its snowing, or is it?" (which you see in the trailer) and the mom telling the girl not to go outside. I am not sure if it was just me but I had the game audio set to what I believe is Japanese and the Subtitles set to English and toward the end the subtitles stopped so I don't know what they said at the very end.

I do like that there are a few secrets in the game which gives the game a little replay-ability if you didn't already get them.

The soundtrack is great, its not something you start jamming out to during game but it fits the mood of the game very well.

I just can't recommend this game... Its pretty, the soundtrack is wonderful and the beginning to mid level puzzles are fun but the game is just to short and the second half of the game is a lot of waiting which is more frustrating than tough.

Im not sure if you can get a game soundtrack on steam without getting the game but if you can get the soundtrack.

I want to iterate that while I recommend this game, it's purely to give some support for the developers since the game has a great foundation. I personally had some issues with the game.

These issues have nothing to do with how hard the puzzles were, as I've finished the game in 2.1 hours. The main points I want to touch up on are the Story, Puzzle Design/Mechanics, and Game Length.

Before I touch upon these things, I do want to say that the game is beautiful. I love the art style.

I will do my best to cover anything I deem a spoiler with spoiler formatting. So if you do not wish to spoil yourself, please do not reveal any of the black spoiler bars.

--- 1 - Story --- 6/10
The story was all-in-all good. It had some ups and downs as well as a climax. The relationship between the mother and daughter is apparent with the neglect (due to work/stress) as well as the love when the mother (essentially) sacrifices herself to save her child. One of the problems that I saw in the story was that there were gaps in the story as not everything is explained very well. I was often led to guess what is occurring and most of my questions were never answered later down the line. Like, what is going on in the world? Why exactly is the mother dying? Is it because of the cold, or a disease, or both? The other problem is that the story itself is fairly generic. This is my own interpretation from what I've seen and heard playing it, so if the developers would like to point out if I'm wrong then I would be grateful. The story is basically this. Girl is neglected due to parents work circumstances. Girl makes a robot to get attention of her mother. Girl leaves to prove herself to her mother. Girl winds up almost dying due to stupidity spurred on by the neglect. Girl gets placed in cryosleep(?) Mother dies and girl wakes up.

--- 2 - Puzzle Design/Mechanics --- 8/10
Puzzles generally consist of getting a cube to the end by getting through obstacles and robots with vision cones. Sometimes there are more robots, cubes, or obstacles. Sometimes there are no robots or obstacles. New mechanics are shown to the player over time in order to keep the puzzles from getting stale. Most of mechanics shown to the player can be influenced by the player. This is important in a puzzle game since players shouldn't need to rely on something out of their control to complete it. Puzzles should be completed with their own ideas and knowledge rather than uncontrollable timed mechanics. I will note that this does not mean timed mechanics can't be used in puzzle games, but they need to be done right in order to ensure that it's more than just waiting for the light to turn green at an intersection (metaphorically speaking). The following bit will touch upon the mechanic that I did not find good. Towards the later levels of the 2nd half of the game you are introduced to a timed gravity change mechanic. The player can not speed these up in any way and must wait for the gravity to change. At first it seems like a neat idea, but as the player figures things out they are left waiting for the gravity to change rather than actually solving the puzzle. I could be wrong, but it never felt as though giving the player a button to forcefully advance the gravity change would affect the game. This of course would only work as long as there was a cooldown to avoid players getting across gaps by abusing this ability. Often I found myself waiting for the gravity to flip, and it just made be a bit annoyed and...well...bored. The puzzles in this game had great foundations, and I definitely believe more can be done with the ideas that the developers came up with.

--- 3 - Length --- 6/10
This is a short and sweet section.
This game is short. I can understand the reasons why it is short, but for a 15$ game it is short at 2-3 hours. Looking at the other reviews I can take that the average completion time is at about 3 hours, if not a little bit higher. There are only about 14-ish puzzles and the story itself is also fairly short.

I personally wish more was done with the game, but it was a good step in the right direction and wish good luck to the developers in their future endeavors.

10/10 Related mom.

Jokes aside, it's a beautiful game with an interesting storyline.
With it's bright colors yet dark past, it does make one good game to spend your time on.

2/10 for interesting.
3/10 for fun.

It's a subpar game.
The story seems to be about the day-to-day life of a little girl who is slowly losing her mind in quarantine; a much too real plotline to be brought by a Chinese company in 2020. Well, that may not be what the story is about because after five cutscenes without any substance whatsoever I lost interest in it completely.
I see a lot of reviews saying it is a beautiful game. It looks... alright. Frankly, the colour scheme is great but the overall graphics is less than you'd expect from an established developer like Pathea Games. I can only assume that the people who call this beautiful are simply mesmerised by the pretty lights.
The puzzle is fun at first. And yes, I'm calling it a singular puzzle. Because it's the same puzzle made incrementally harder over and over again. Get the box, throw the box to distract, get box, put box in thing. That's all you do. Oh, and sometimes you jump. Cool. I really wanted to wait until I finished the game to post a review but I have more interesting things to do with my Saturday, like picking lint out of my belly button and staring at a wall while listing in my head all the games I could be playing but I won't.

NEKOCHAMA
NEKOCHAMA

A short but beautiful and fascinating little game.

This game revolves around you solving puzzles to unlock memories telling a very emotional story throughout that process. The puzzles weren't that challenging in my opinion, though some of them activated some brain cells and i think that's good because I probably couldn't have felt the story that way if I would've been stuck on a puzzle for hours. The graphics in this game are simple yet expresses the feelings the game wants to give you in a quite beautiful way accompanied by very calming and nice music.

I really enjoyed my experience and I recommend this game to anyone who wants to go on a beautiful yet emotional journey.

Hairy Mary
Hairy Mary

Ever Forward is beautiful puzzle game with an emotional story. Depending on the way your brain is wired, it will either be pretty easy for you or quite hard. It was the latter for me, but I got there......finally!
The bones of the story is that the mother is a very busy scientist and has little time for her 12 yr old daughter. Government officials have stated that it is too unsafe to go outside, so you're stuck home all the time. [A reason was never given for this]
You start designing your own security bot, but your mother isn't interested in that either. The story is enacted by short cut scenes between each puzzle and are well done.
Graphics are lovely. The natural world is full of gentle pastel colours whilst the imaginary world of Maya is very futuristic and dark in design. The soundtrack is full of mellow synthesizer sounds and the sound effects of the security bots are great!
Game play involves getting a box to a red column of light. You need stealth to get past the security bots and have to work out how to distract them in multiple ways. As the game progresses, you are able to teleport and use gravity for your purposes.
To solve the puzzles requires logic reasoning, dexterity and speed to get to something before it moves. In some cases, it requires precise throwing of the box, which can be rage inducing near a bot! Be prepared to die multiple times.
Gravity was introduced towards the end of the game and I found it incredibly frustrating to use. You have to wait for the right strength of wind to move and if you do it wrong multiple times, it gets old very quickly. The timed aspect of it makes it difficult for slowpokes like me!
The Gravity aspect was my only criticism with the lack of English subtitles for the final scene with her mother. I didn't know what was said in Chinese. The end of the story did leave me scratching my head, so it is really left up to your own interpretation. Spoiler alert: There is also a secret ending after the credits
Puzzle lovers will definitely enjoy this. Buy on sale. 8/10

Straight up loved the first chunk of the game. interesting narrative, interesting gameplay, puzzles are sick! I am about halfway through and all of my saves decided to lock to on top of a roundbot. meaning I am left to start over or stay in an infinte death loop. Great options. I think it is great in concept, but not playability.

The Gibins
The Gibins

By playing this game I have achieved enlightenment. This game is amazing, smooth calming graphics, cool challenges and great music. I have elevated to Zen Grand Master because of the puzzles. I can now bend the laws of physics. I have placed a singularity on the tip of my finger and blown it away like the seeds of a dandelion into the breeze because of this game (I might have imagined all that). Game play reminds me of the old fashioned Sukoban or more recently Gravity Field (It's the block thing you have to solve to move "EVER FORWARD" - yes I see the pun). I was always wondering if the character I was playing was packing some heavy ordinance on their person that could be used to "solve" some of the puzzles, but no. I was a bit lost in the beginning (standing on the beach with a box flying overhead and no direction) but this has been a fun game for me and I really liked the simple hi res scenery. I'm very pleased I purchased it, if you need some mental pilates/yoga or a break from stressful shooters then this is for you.
