This game is amazing, basically Undertale but with musical elements mixed in with the songs. This game also has a really deep meaning within it about immortality and how it isn't something we should wish for. I really hope they make some type of prequel or sequel to Everhood. Maybe more backstory on the characters? The different life everyone goes to? The possibilities are endless

This game is unsettling. Eternity, immortality, and consciousness are its themes. The gameplay itself is a mix of undertale bullet dodging and guitar hero timed movement. The whole game kinda feels like Moonside. Like a deep trip. The moral is ambiguous.

It's a game that brings up more questions than answers. It's an eyeball in space staring at you.

It's... definitely an experience. Fun characters, funny satire bits, cool music, dark tale.

It has something of everything. Challenge, adventure, music, and most of all, and experience you will never get elsewhere. Is it similar to Undertale? yes, but its great in its own way that makes the experience enjoyable. Can not recommend it more, especially to those who enjoy rhythm games, as the custom battle adds tons of new options. Really wish I played this first instead of watching Youtube vids

I really recommend playing this game. If you are on the fence about wanting this game, get it anyways, doesn't matter how broke you'll be afterwards. This game is very much worth it. Trust me

The game took a lot of inspiration from undertale and it shows in a good way. Difficulty feels appropriate, music is good, story is both thought-provoking and compelling. There some unsettling parts (most likely by design). Overall it isn't as heartwarming and funny as undertale, but at the same time it is not really a fair comparison. It's good and interesting and if you want something similar to undertale and don't mind darker themes and thought-provoking questions, then this is definitely worth a buy.

OK actually serious review
The music ranges from being pretty good to absolutely incredible, and I'm pleased to say that most of it falls under the latter.
The battles are fun and I love how they all sync up with the music.
The story has lots of surprises near the end, and a whole bunch of memorable characters.

My only issues are that most characters are introduced at once, so there's a small few who feel a bit underutilised. Plus the difficulty curve is a bit slow at the start and suddenly ramps up so It isn't too hard for most of the game, then at about the 3/4 mark it gets super challenging. I'd prefer it it got harder a bit sooner so you don't get hit as hard, though lore wise it does make a lot of sense for the difficulty spike, I'd prefer the earlier sections to be a bit tougher.

Overall, at it's worse this game is a 4.5/5 for me, on average probably a 4.7
It only took me a few hours to know that this was going to be one of my favourite games and it gets even better at the end. I'd definitely wait until later in the game before fully deciding as everhood goes all out in it's music, difficulty, story, and design.

I can't recommend this game enough. I'm not really keen with RPGs and I still fell in love with this game.

Just one tip, this game has a lot of endings so I'd recommend looking them up once you get the your arm (don't do it before as it's a spoiler)

Amazingly fun and unique. This is what video games should be about. Also, the music slaps hard.

This game was an experience, and one I'll never forget. The story was extremely good, characters were memorable, even the doors were good, and the gameplay is quite a nice twist. The OST is also a banger. I highly recommend this game.

The undertale at home.

The game throws in undertale references so on the nose that it was verging on plagiarism. Looking past this though, it was missing the point of what makes Undertale so good. The characters.

The characters here are okay, but there's very limited interaction with most and there was just no connection. They were just there. This meant that any emotional impact was much less.

Lastly, I am pretty sure the game is meant to be played in different ways to get different endings. The trouble is that the combat system doesn't really make me want to. Fights are long, tedious and for the most part easy. Increasing the difficulty just means I occasionally have to do the long and tedious song all over again.

Overall, it's something different, it's why I gave it a shot. But for me, it just fell short in every area.

The gameplay is good, amazing even. It’s engaging, it keeps you going, and it’s fun all around. The music is amazing.

However.

I don’t care about these characters at all. It feels like the message and the way you’re supposed to love these characters are being shoved down your throat. I couldn’t give a single damn what happens to any of these guys. The world and the characters are flat and there’s no development of the world. Overall if you’re looking for a story rich game, this one isn’t one I recommend.

highly slept on banger. ton of fun to figure out the challenges and puzzles this game provides. its a perfect balance of gameplay and storytelling. pretty obvious this game was inspired by undertale, whether that's for the better or worse. also the soundtrack is insane, which really helps keeping engaged in the gameplay

I really wanted to like this game, in fact I DID like the first half of the game.

However, The second half of the game feels like it was written by the Zodiac Killer. Murder is good. Because the strange frog said so. They're suffering even if they don't know it, pinky promise.

Pink says some weird stuff at the end, like, "I alone was the judge and prosecutor and the executioner. I was God. I alone fulfilled all of your functions." and, "I felt like the father of all these people, since it was I who opened the door for them to another world".

... no, wait, that was serial killer Alexander Pichushkin, easy mistake to make.

This game is SUPER awesome you could compare it to undertale but as a rhythm game i recomend you to get it it has multiple endings after doing the normal ending you unlock new game+ what adds some more stuff so you can play this for a long time i found this game bc of the youtuber merg 10/10 do get this game except if you have epilepsy but if you dont get the game.

Guitar Hero where the notes kill you, wrapped in a surreal, trippy, and endearing RPG. The gameplay accentuated by the amazing music is easily the best part, and it stays consistently kickass throughout the 9~ hours of the story, as well as New Game+ to explore and an easy way to replay all the fights. Incredible, 10/10

Fizzboks
Fizzboks

I liked it a lot. I was especially a fan of the various visual effects the game did, I was extremely impressed by those, and the music was very very good, basically necessitates buying the soundtrack too. I was also a very big fan of the main mechanics.

I did play on story mode difficulty, which did mean I didn't have to worry much at all about difficulty, but I have heard that on high difficulties it is sometimes not so well balanced in the second half of the game. I don't know if this has been tweaked since the time I heard of this, but you might want to keep that in mind. You can switch difficulties pretty much whenever with no consequence though so it's not really a big deal.

The more iffy things for me were the usual very long walks, as customary in rpgmaker-style games. I don't know how you fix that, but I wish some area sections were either not so long and empty, or at least had nuances to observe. Idk, something to make going back into old areas not so mildly tedious. This gripe isn't really anything out of the usual though, I find it hard to even remember an rpg (or whatever this genre it's in is called) that doesn't have this kind of issue.

Game is well worth it.

I dislike how often the word "masterpiece" gets thrown around at games. but this? this game 100% deserves that title.

this masterpiece of trippyness, funky music, deep lore, great strorywriting and SLICK gameplay absolutely earned it's place in my heart, and if the things I listed sound compelling to you, you should definitely play this game. I can assure you, it'll certainly be worth your time and money.

in fact, just with the first battle (AKA the fricking tutorial!) this game managed to convince me that my money was well spent, and by the time I finished it, I loved it so much I was even willing to pay for the soundtrack.

this game blew me away. 10/10.

Jereshroom
Jereshroom

It's a well-polished game with fun and unusual gameplay. But the writing feels incredibly poor... boring, pretentious, or unfocused. It's clearly trying to be Undertale, and failing badly.

While something like Alice in Wonderland (the book) uses random-esque nonsense for satire, and Undertale used it for jokes and charm and personality, this game just felt like a mess.

A roller coaster of emotion.

While the inspirations from Undertale are pretty clear, Everhood still has its own identity. A game full of surprises I really enjoyed doing.

The + :
- Smart gameplay.
- A plot smartly conducted.
- A lot of surprises.
- A lot of bangers. (Musics)
- Incredible fights (in term of gameplay and graphics)

The - :
- I didn't think you could do worse than Undertale in term of graphics but... Here we are. (Only for exterior graphics. Graphics in fight are awesome.)
- Poor chara-design for most of the protagonists.
- Some text to read while fighting (That's a small con, but I feel like I missed some points of the game since you HAVE to focus on the projectiles. That's a bit frustrating.)

Instead of being a rythm game where each imput needs to be right on time, Everhood is more about dodging thousands of notes while listening to some great tracks in a psychedelic setting. You will encounter a lot of funny characters that are always cracking jokes, you will fight a frog, gnomes and ATMs just because this is a good game! Every single soundtrack is a banger, it made fighting harder bosses that much more fun.

There is no mistaking this game for an Undertale/Earthbound copy. It might be inspired by those games, but it really is a unique and amazing experience on its own. You can tell that the developpers poured their souls into their creation, there are no downtimes, no stupid gimmicks, just a lot of fun to have. I highly encourage you to get this lovely game!

Just take that epilepsy warning very very seriously. My eyes barely survived this.

I enjoyed this game so much, I wrote a review.

Summary:
+ Worth full price
+ Mechanics are fun
+ Story got me good
+ Great replay value
+ Soundtrack is great
- "Fighting" and reading at the same time was difficult once in a while.

I haven't played Undertale (yet), but I've played Earthbound and it's easy to see the inspo. It's not a copycat by any means though. I played at Normal difficulty and thought it was the right amount of challenging. The battles are fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story and how it all unfolds. I swear I discover something new every time I go back to play, so replay value is there. My one small critique is sometimes it was hard to read text and "fight" at the same time. I got this on sale, but I think it's worth full price.

Did you enjoy Undertale? Did a certain route make you uncomfy? What if Flowey was right?
Everhood is a nice cross between bullet hell, story rpgs, and guitar hero?
I cannot give away too much for fear of ruining your enjoyment, but I must stress.
If you play this "game" it will make you sad. It will make you reevaluate your stance on things. It will test you, or give you a nice story, whichever is preferable.
There are many absolute truths, this is one of them.
Everhood made me take a hard look at myself, I hope it does the same for you.
It is now in your hands to interpret the truth's meaning, go now, and if you're reading this, I have a few request.

Reach out to someone.
A friend, A stranger, someone. You never know when someone needs you, maybe you could make things better.
Treat every day as a chance to make a change.
Live your life in love and joy, be a beacon for those still adrift at sea. Lead those that need it to the shore.

TL;DR - Everhood is good, and so are you.

It's hard to believe that I only have roughly 11 hours of gameplay clocked as of this review. This game is jam-packed with such a unique bullet-hell experience that is packaged with amazing music and a surprisingly emotional story that brought tears to my eyes. It feels as if I've played twice as long, which only goes to show how upfront the quality of this game was as I was immersed in its gameplay and story.

The characters are quirky, the artstyle is psychadelic and intriguing, and playing on the hardest difficulty was so incredibly rewarding. This game teaches you its core mechanics and then pushes you to the limit near the end with its beautifully paced difficulty curve.

Sure it looks a lot like Undertale... However, Everhood quickly grows into its own identity and becomes a game like no other.

An indie masterpiece. I loved every second of it.

This game is a drug trip and a half, it gave me the worst emotional whiplash of my life. It made me feel existential, sad, and made me bust out laughing from the silly names and jokes. I explored almost everything, trying to leave no stone unturned because it was so interesting and I really wanted to find it all. I even went down the 3 hour endless corridor because I just HAD to see what was down there. It's a gift that keeps giving, even when you think you're done, the game yanks you back in like a wet cat trying to escape a bathtub. 10/10 game, I'm gonna go lie down and think about my place in the universe.

THIS IS NOT A RHYTHM GAME

First of all, the battles may send attacks your way in a rhythmic manner, but if you try to apply rhythm to your moves you will end up frustrated. This game is almost harder if you have any sense of rhythm because you'll find yourself unable to believe that a game that has obstacles placed onto the field at the same time as the beats of the admittedly banging songs would not require you to apply that rhythm to your gameplay. Very fun game, great designs, great music, but frustratingly deceptive when it comes to rhythm.

yuirick
yuirick

Absolutely amazing game!

While the game does have some flaws, the pros are something I've been starved for in games in general for a while now. Every battle adds something unique, every corner has something cool to explore, and man, there's a lot of great beats to listen to while you're battling it out. The art is colorful, the world is unique, the whole game an adventure to play though.

The characters beyond a few main ones can feel a bit flat, and the philosophy of the story is a biiit weird. The messaging of the philosophy of the story is vague at first and then very blunt later. To put it differently, if you don't agree with the game developers philosophy before you played this game, you certainly won't agree with them once you're done.

The game is rather difficult. And when you change the difficulty, it kind of just buffs you, meaning you still have to go through the same challenge with just two more hit points and some quicker health regen. This is still quite challenging even if you're playing on "story mode". This game might not be for you if you haven't gotten a few games under your belt, specifically action-oriented games. Do not feel shy about lowering the difficulty if you have to!

But yeah, even with that in mind, it's probably one of the best games I've played all year. I can strongly recommend it!

A lot of people recommend this game, even though they admit there's no way to tell whats going on in the beginning. This is game is just so shallow, and I see no reason to play it unless you really like difficult battle sequences and a decent soundtrack. For me though, what's the point of a song if its not apart of a deeper emotional moment? If its all as shallow as manufactured pop music, I can't enjoy it, no matter how well-produced it is.

What a great game. You can easily see the love that went into making this game. It's also the first game that gave me the, what I call, 'Undertale-Feeling' at the end. It's hard to describe but if you played through the ending of both games you will definitely know what I mean. This game made me think about it even days after finishing. A task that only a handful of games achieved. If you love Undertale, if you love rhythm games....HELL....IF YOU LOVE GAMES AT ALL you should give it a try. Sure it had a few small pacing errors and not all characters where completely fleshed out but overall this game is fantastic and probably the best game I've played this year so far.

This game is an experience. 10/10 for sure.

This game seems to be inspired by Undertale in some aspects, however, this is no Undertale clone. It has its own ideas with its own essence and it pulls them off flawlessly (at least to me).

This is a game where the less you know about it the better, but just know it's gonna have twists and turns and a whole bunch of wonderful things in it that will leave your jaw dropped open in surprise and amazement.

The maps that you traverse play like Undertale, where there's not much to look at or do within them (there are some really cool mini games though), however the battles are where the game really comes alive (just like Undertale). Basically the battles are like a reverse guitar hero bullet hell. The notes come at you (you don't control them) and you must evade the notes and get to the end of the song. The game starts off with blue crescent notes and wall notes. The crescent notes you can jump over no problem, but the wall notes, you must evade. I'm sure you can only imagine how crazy this all gets at the very end, but your imagination can't quite paint the true idea you're gonna experience if you play this.

Just like Undertale, I felt "feelings" at the end of the game. Again, I want to remind you that this is not an Undertale clone, it's just inspired by it, just like how Undertale was inspired by Mother. They all have their own flair.

This game is so creative and amazing, I can't recommend it enough. Every time I succeeded, it felt rewarding. The mystery of the game was intriguing, especially because the game doesn't really care if you know what's going on or not. In fact, it recommends that you don't know.

With my 16 hours of game play, I know I still haven't seen everything yet, even though I beat it. This game has so much for you to discover.

If you like Undertale, if you like Bullet Hells, if you like dope Music, buy this game. I 100% stand behind this.

The story is sublime, as it pulls you into a melancholic yet colourful world, full of friends, foes and truths. The art style constantly surprises you, and the music is fantastic, keeping the game exciting and fun to play. I love the simple mechanics, as the battles leave you satisfied and fulfilled after a hard fought yet soothing experience.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who has any doubts about purchasing it, as what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in a riveting and touching campaign.

This game is a huge breath of fresh air for me. I love rhythm games and RPG's, and this put them together SO well. Not to mention the LORE and the amount of times my mouth was left HANGING OPEN at the twists and turns. The music is so great too!!! The absolute truths are a really cool concept, and the entire premise of the game almost makes you take a second look at what life is. It's a great game.

if undertale left a gaping hole in your heart for unique top-down RPG's that leave an impression on you that you will think about for years to come, this game is worth a try, especially for the ridiculously low price of 10 euros

Definitely a different, and interesting rhythm type of game with a story.

Probably one of the best indies of all times? I think it's kinda up there honestly, feels like a darker Undertale, plays like a pretty hard rythm game but not exactly, basically a must buy especially considering the extremely low price tag.
Music slaps.

While the art may put off some, this game is really an under the radar treat if you enjoy games with a rhythm based style of gameplay. Surprisingly deep and hard hitting game play choices that are not worth spoiling are contained within. Soundtrack is stunning and great to listen to on its own. The visuals are simple but it will drag you in and immerse you at some points. Worth your time at what ever price its at currently. Also an extremely challenging game if you go on normal or above. Would recommend not getting if you're a completionist for achievements unless you want to hate yourself.

Gameplay and music wise I do highly suggest this game. However, while the game may be 'story rich', I do not think the story is very well written. It's essentially a linear plot that gives the illusion of choice with other endings that end up feeling more like secret bosses more than anything. Overall the plot isn't very satisfying, I don't feel connected to the characters, and story is a let down. But gameplay and music does make up for this if you only care about that.

Really fun game with likable characters. Great music. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE ANY PHOTOSENSITIVE ISSUES IT GETS TRIPPY. Not the biggest fan of the message though. I felt worse about killing these characters more than I ever did in undertale, except maybe papyrus. 10/10 better genocide route and it's not all doom and gloom either, this universe actually has an afterlife.

Pirate this game. Chris Nordgren openly supported a child diddler on the official discord and continues to do so even after disapproval of the community which is mostly made up of minors. On top of that, the fandom is made up of a bunch of 26 year olds who like to harass minors on the internet.

Beginning of the game had me worried that this would be a blatant Undertale clone, but it fortunately turned into its own really cool unique thing. Fun, yet challenging bosses, and a banger soundtrack. Check this one out.

It is honestly a damn crime that this game isn't more well known.

Everhood is like a rock opera that you play. It takes experimentation to its extremes and comes out the other side with one of the most unique types of gameplay I've ever seen in a game. And it NAILS it! The story, settings and characters also feel like they have been pulled out of a madman's headspace, and I mean that in the best way possible. Everhood wears its inspiration from Undertale on its sleeve, but in my opinion it manages to set itself apart from Undertale and even surpasses it in a few areas. The real star of the show though is the soundtrack. It's one of the best of all time, period.

So many battles, songs and other moments are now permanently etched into my mind, and I think the final boss made me contemplate my own existence. One of my favourite games of all time, and an absolute must-play for everyone.

this game is something else. It reminded me of undertale because how you would make friends along the way of the journey, and because of its text style. It did something i didnt expect a rythm game to do, add lore and meaning behind the game. The songs were absolutely phenominal and so were the characters designs. The bosses were pretty hard, but fantastic. I would love to see more of this beautiful game because this game was amazing in every way. I legit could not say anything negative about the game because it is magneficent, keep up the good work!

Gobby

100% worth the price and a good challenge on both hard and expert difficulties. The boss rush element of the game is why I got it but I found the story and world to be even more enjoyable than the difficult boss fights. So if you want to experience the game for the story alone there are easier difficulties for that.

If this game is on sale BUY IT.

It's worth the full 10 bucks but I highly recommend it for anything under that.

An amazing game made by two individuals. Very reminiscent of Undertale atmosphere-wise with lovable characters, story, and (arguably better) gameplay.

This game definitely has replay value, and I plan on playing it again sometime. We need more games like Everhood in the world.

Voyse

This is quite a unique rhythm game that marries Undertale bullet dodging and game design with Dance dance revolution like gameplay. It also has "Karma"-like gameplay to it, though your decision making isn't as clear as games like Undertale. If you are emotionally driven, suffering depression, or have suicidal thoughts, this may not be the game for you. Anyone else, give it a try, the world isn't always so black and white.

Why is the normal ending so long? Just finish the game bro. Finish the damn game and let me go. Long ass fights for no reason and also why does the game act like the story is 50+ hours and I care for the characters so much in the ending? I just saw you twice and I don't even know your name lil bro. Still a good game

I loved Everhood a lot. It throws a lot at you, and I had to take some time to process it, but looking back I really enjoyed it. The music is fantastic, the characters are fun and well fleshed out, and the way the story unfolds is really interesting. Definitely worth checking out.

donkey

not a bad game, starts off pretty strong but declines when you can actually fight back instead of solely dodging. This is cool at first but quickly becomes tedious cause and now you gotta worry about so much shit its just not fun anymore. You gotta dodge, attack offensively cause if you don't kill them the fight will end and you'll have to fight them over and over and over until your fast enough and play almost perfectly. The change of gameplay with attacking I don't really mind and you just have to adapt to it, but the fact that you gotta kill them as fast as possible really ruins this game which is a shame cause theres alot of heart and soul here.

This was such a blast to play. Fantastic soundtrack, likable characters, interesting and thought-provoking story, a battle system that was challenging and yet so much fun. It had me questioning my choices sometimes. One of the best games I've played in a while.

EarthlyMercury
EarthlyMercury

One of the most criminally overlooked games I've ever played.

You may write it off as another "quirky earthbound inspired indie rpg" at first glance, but it puts such a unique spin on the formula that it feels completely detached from its influences and truly is its own thing.

Great for people who like LSD trips and also happen to want an existential crisis at the same time. Stan Green Mage.

Navigation unclear as most walls are black that blend in with the background, Battles not fun and very repetitive, lots of unclear plot, and some parts feel too long. There are some good parts, though. It has a good soundtrack, interesting plot and characters once you understand it, and a custom battles mode if you figure out how it works. This game is not really a rhythm game, which is why I bought it, but it you want a good story and characters, this is a very good game to get.

Wintar_
Wintar_

This game is more of an RPG than it is a rhythm game. In fact, I'd hardly call it a rhythm game. More like a bullet hell. But despite that, if you like any of those three genres, you'll almost certainly love this game.

It's relatively short for an RPG, but oddly highly replayable. And absolutely worth full price. Would buy again.

This was a completely unique and amazing experience! I had this on my wishlist since it came out but only got around to playing it now. The characters are delightful and the music is amazing, everything comes to head in a really retrospective emotional rollercoaster just to get the 'normal' ending. I can't express just how much fun I had with this! People compare it to Undertale and Deltarune, and there's aspects that are similar in Everhood, but this game is truly a labour of love, and if you're not biased, this is an amazing unique experience with music to die for that I can't recommend enough. : ] I'm definitely going to go back to get the other endings!

I only have 5 hours in the game right now, but I can already tell this is a masterpiece. While at the start, the game's story may seem confusing and the gameplay simple, do not be discouraged. Going into Everhood blind was an incredible decision, and it is easily earning a 10/10 rating from me. I can't wait to see all that this game has to offer.
