I have always wanted a RTS and FPS hybrid, especially in space. This game is exactly that, I never seen another game pull off a hybrid FPS/RTS before. The fact the Dev was able to add in a multiplayer is hell of a kicker. I hope more RTS enjoyers would give this game a try. Certainly is a unique experience.

This game an amazing gem. Great execution of FPS/RTS combo. Minor learning curve.

Pro-Tip: Energy resources are controlled via technology and by applying a module(s) in each starbase. Each energy source is local and thus has to be managed in the energy panel.

I wish this can be expanded (expansions or an updated game w/ more modules and technology).

This game reminds me hints of Sins of a Solar Empire (RTS) and music similar to both SINS & SW.

Okay when I was younger I watched videos on Executive Assault 1 and I was so intrigued and I wanted it so bad but unfortunately I didn't have a computer at the time so I was excited to play this but I was sorely disappointed I'm sure the Devs are working hard but the Tutorial screen I think is confusing that's my opinion but that's just that start. The "Very Easy" AI it starts you off with did not seem "Very Easy" you want to know why? because within the first 30 minutes of my first game they rushed my ass and spawn camped me not in my own sector but sitting in the next one making it impossible for me to progress because Anytime I tried to leave my sector my craft would get instantly killed because guess what? there were 15-20 BIG ships camping outside my sector. And Don't even get me started on the Promotion "feature" that shit is annoying when you're literally being fucking blockaded by "Very Easy" AI not only did I kill MYSELF 30 BIG ships not even counting the ones the AI killed I NEVER reached the next promotion I think I got just over halfway to the next one which guess what! I had gotten everything in that tech area but I was locked because the promotion is so slow I'm going to stop there but I could keep going.

Is a good game, but it could be awesome... it

+ combines ground and air battles in space providing an amazing experience
+ factions has their trade-off, so nice touch to strategy
- there are few types of foot soldier (and there is no reload or something related with ammo), so that drop a little the bit the tactic
- enemy ground and air tactics are just going straight forward to where you are and kill you, so tactics is not so rich
- there is no campaign
- there are some bugs (like saving game while you have fighters outside the ship, then you load and you have double quantity of fighters! )

Great game, love the ability to switch from RTS to FPS. Just needs some more work to make it run smoother, make the building / design trees easier to use and more trading abilities etc.

this is one of those games that is unrelenting and challenging to say the least. . . 3 factions each with a hell of a learning curve and a whole ton of stress on top of it all at that. (For all you people focused on single player games a word of warning, this game DOES NOT PLAY FAIR!!!) still have yet to beat the easiest AI here and that's a issue i haven't had since the 90's in gaming hate to say this but those old NES and SNES games skill requirement back then were freaking insane (I.E. the original Mario world compared to the newer titles today those old side scroll games never did have an easy mode but that's not whats up for debate here. . .) back on topic, Executive Assault 2 is a game that a lot of people who are Strategists are gonna respect as well as hate at the same time. I'm even gonna go on a limb here and say this is more of a Instructional program then a game due to the management aspects alone. . . not even gonna touch the combat aspect yet on the topic, this is a mix between Diplomacy Espionage Warfare AND Research and you cant win on just 1 aspect alone you need to manage EVEN MICROMANAGE to get anywhere in this one!!! It has a few bugs from time to time and there is no timescale feature here so be ready for a long run. cause this game is gonna push your strategy making to it's limit and much further.

(WARNING!!! This game was meant for those who aren't afraid to challenge them selves nor are afraid to lose all the time. . . This game is not for people who are short tempered or Egotistical. this game is meant for those who will try no matter what to improve.

Early Access Violent Space Capitalism.

This game is very subject to change at pretty much every moment, so if you don't like the sound of that you should wait to release.

It still needs alot of polish and thought but it has alot of potential.

Good game overall.

Can be difficult to get into for some people at the start, due to the game being somewhat unique.

Multiplayer works fine.

Made by a single person.

One of the few EarlyAccess titles worth supporting.

This game has gotten so much better over time, it's incredible.

It's one of those few early access games that's a fully working product that is more than living up to it's unique premise. It gets updated pretty often, which is incredible considering it's basically one person working on it.

I HIGHLY recommend this. If nothing else, at least to support an early access dev who really deserves it. I hope one day, some popular youtuber or streamer can cover it. Maybe then it'll get the attention it deserves.

This game is straight trash. There's no diplomacy with other factions, they can somehow afford to spam ship after ship after ship endlessly while I am goin bankrupt trying to just survive. It's definitely better than it was. Worth a play. It needs a lot of work though. More ships, more base structure options etc. Definitely needs some kind of customisation elements like colours, deco etc. Seems each base has huge amounts of wasted space.

Overall fun. Not much replayability.

It's a great game graphics wise and gameplay wise, but it builds up a lot of bugs and errors while you play, especially in multiplayer. Game crashes about 1.5 hours in and you can't reconnect, so try to win before then. Other than that, excellent game.

Super fun game if you're not looking for a full-fledged title with campaign, smooth gameplay, etc.

This captures the magic of fps + strategy + space sim all rolled in to one. Still needs polish, bug fixes, etc. but this is something that is actually unique and, it seems, a labour of love for the developer. Hope they keep going because this is awesome already.

My biggest issue as of Summer 2021 are the UI elements:
-should be able to see unit groups you select
-should have options for scroll/zoom sensitivity and edge panning
-some issues with issuing orders to groups of units, pathing indicators, etc.
-should able to queue orders (e.g. shift+click move, shift+click mine)
-first person sensitivity way too high, couldn't find an easy adjustor
-should be able to see control groups you assign
-camera is clunky, should be easier to look around your ships in 3rd person and admire the incredible scale of the battles
-could really, really use a higher unit cap
-should be easier to navigate help menu/info menu in game
-with no tutorial it is a bit of a challenge the first couple hours

This game is great, 7.5/10 for me as-is, would love to see some UI and control improvements.

Baldr

It has potential but its so clunky at the moment. The issue is, its been out for years and is still not anywhere near done. I am Auric Goldfinger. My organisation makes and sells gold bullions in space. I build a big base with many armed guards on patrol. I saw off many boarding attempts and my base destroyed many fleets. I make a tiny fleet with no advanced tech and over harvest minerals in my region, over spend on weak ships. leading to my downfall. But I still found it fun.

In all seriousness it's a fun game that has come a long way. I played 2 years ago and again today. There's been a lot of progress. The space stations used to be feel empty, but now with the decorations and the soldiers on patrol instead of mindless robots standing still it's more alive. There's more to do but as is it's a perfectly playable game. The RTS doesn't always need your attention so you can freely play as a soldier or pilot without worrying about micro management. Overall it's easy to learn, hard to win.

Yet again I wish Steam had a middle option instead of just yes or no when it comes to recommending games. EA2 is on the pricey side and is painfully obviously early access, but once you figure out the controls and game mechanics it's actually pretty fun despite the atrocious UI. Haven't had a chance to try Multiplayer yet, but I imagine that's where this game would really shine.

So my last review wasn't entirely fair. I still recommended, overall, but it was based off of some misconceptions and assumptions on my part.

It does need work, It's got a steep learning curve. Less so than X-3 but definitely above average. It does have a manual which stands in for a tutorial but it skips out on some of the minor details that can really cause some annoyance.

I did believe it had some balance issues before and while I still think that is true I do not believe it is to a game breaking degree. Tweaks definitely need to be made but for now it is a little lacking content wise. Does have some replayability factor though because of multiple factions and maps.
Content wise I'd like to see them increase the map choices, more ships, larger maps, maybe twice the size. Right now 9 sectors/planets are the limit (similar to SoSE in visual lay out), at least 18, in my own opinion should be possible, personally I'd like to see 20, a fun little sandbox to play around in. I'd really like to see more technologies to chose from and maybe more expansion options. Right now player can feel rather hemmed in and the ability to produce reactor cores would be great.

What keeps me coming back, and probably my personal favourite thing about the game is the music. It's very atmospheric and works well to set the mood without being monotonal. Build up and combat feels very different because of this. Build up is somewhat relaxing and when the combat music plays you get a small sense of urgency and the little details feel all the more important.

So thus far I continue to recommend. Whether or not is stays that way, in the long term, depends on how the game develops from here.

You are going to have to love RTS games for this to be up your alley, as the FPS (on foot) and direct control space fighter + capital class combat isn't really rock solid yet -- but if you are looking for an interesting take on a combat focused RTS, this one has "interesting" in spades.

This game reminds me a TON of the original BattleZone and BattleZone2 games -- but in space.

Lots of fun, again, if you are just in it for the RTS aspects of the game. And the developer is listening to player feedback so if you want to help developing of a unique take on the RTS genre, here is your chance.

kaeladran
kaeladran

Well it is here again. This RTS/FPS blend that a lot of people tried to do and failed. This is not the case for EA2. Game delivers everything it promises. Three factions, each with different approach to energy which is THE most essential thing in the game. Each with its different designs of both land and space units as well as research is different for all of them since they are all using different tech. You can take control of almost every unit at your disposal (from soldiers to biggest ships). So far i have not encountered any bug and everything works like it should. The game lets you start as one of two positions - CEO and Executor. CEO have total control over everything and Executor reduced control to be mostly military leader (have not tried Executor with only AI yet, only played as CEO). So far i have been learning the game and i think i can say that i learned to play as Scientist faction and its great and OP! I also like that game is not only about taking territory, combat and trading. There is a lot of Ancient Space Stations just ready to be plundered of boxes (research or resources) and taken. There is also one huge ship coming from time to time into different systems but i have not got there so far. In the end, yes you can see that game is really in development, there can be little fps drops and little graphic things about models and collisions. BUT. Everything that game offers is really working and the game itself is in really great and stable state even in its version. I have tried and really enjoyed every unit there is for science faction and game itself is really worth full price even now! 7/10 and i think it will be 9/10 maybe even 10/10 because it has the potential to be the best game in its genre.

who_knows_why
who_knows_why

So I played the last game pretty much religiously. It was fantastic to play, especially with a group of Executrons (though arguably I spent more time trying to protect myself from my friends' morbid curiosity when it came to questions like, "Will a rocket launcher kill my boss?").

Now upon playing the new instalment, I'll put it like this:
There's a small learning curve to it, much like the last one. However this is absolutely no issue. The game is relatively easy to learn and there's a wealth of info provided in-game through the manuals. If anything, the manuals are far better in this game than they were in the previous.

I would very very very VERY HIGHLY recommend this game if you're interested in strategy games and I especially recommend it to those who want an RTS game with just a little more action. Being able to go to 1st person at any time and control your units is not only fantastic, its revolutionary. To this day I still haven't found any game/franchise that can compete with this. I've only encountered one other game that does this (somewhat) and it was terrible. Executive Assault takes the gold here yet again. Based on that alone, I'd recommend buying it. For those who are interested in getting a little more detail, I will happily provide.

This game takes the action and destruction from other RTS games, and combines it with some great management skill (nothing to scare of a casual player in case you're put off by this). Plenty of economy management in there, from running your mining operations, to keeping freighters and cargo shuttles protected, to running multiple space stations. This gives you plenty of things to do in-between combat and helps you make the most of every resource you have. Knowing that I need to defend my station so that I can maximise selling "Propane and Propane Accessories" is absolutely joyous.

Moving on to most people's favourite part, the combat. I'll put this very simply. The combat is very good. The AI has seen some pretty damn fantastic improvements from the last game. Most combat will take place in space via ships, however if you wish to win you'll need to familiarise yourself with ground combat. Unlike the last game, you can now attack/bombard structures from outside. This can do damage like destroying all internal security systems (such as doors and turrets) or in the case of space stations, completely and utterly obliterate the structure. At the end of the day though, you'll need to familiarise yourself with some ground tactics as in order to win the game you'll need to muster up a team and take the fight inside your enemy's base. The CEO will more than likely remain in his office, so its up to you to find him, and blast him back to the dark ages. My friends and I have personally found that the rocket launcher makes for a fantastic CEO-Obliteration-Technique, though if this is unavailable then any old weapon will suffice. The CEO tends to be rather squishy, so if you wish to live long, I would advise you to stay inside and absolutely refuse to touch grass under any circumstances. You're a gamer after all, so this shouldn't be too hard for you.

My review is already long enough, so to wrap it up, we'll quickly cover unit customisation. Yes. Every unit can be customised to suit any and all needs, except delivery of coffee. To this day I still have not perfected this particular program. Each unit can be equipped with various weapons, armour, gadgets and modules. Each ship can be designed uniquely, and can be given more powerful upgrades as the game progresses. I've personally found that keeping your ships as up to date as possible is a good way to keep yourself alive. You may go bankrupt in the process, but that's ok. Your rivals can't make more money than you if you destroy them first. Build your fleets, create your armies, storm their base and absolutely obliterate their social credit score with some naughty internet searches.

Overall I give BOTH Executive Assault games an absolutely glowing review. This game deserves more credit than it has been given, and I will stand by this statement until the end of both my natural and unnatural life, as I will be forced to serve our grand CEO as an Executron for eternity. Happiness is temporary. Energen Credits are forever.

Fine, I wont return the game as it was on special, its a grand game idea and I like the multifaceted management,

but DAMN, it needs SERIOUS optimization, its not performant at all on an i7 12 core, with 16gb ram and a NVIDIA 1650 4gb GPU ...

Reduce your texture load, investigate how other games like supreme commander / eve valkyrie / star wars squadrons / elite dangerous etc handles high res at various view scales.

Sorry but with a knowledge of how to do this and having played all mentioned games, this game doesnt look as good or perform. The requirements listed should be challenging my PC that plays the latests games on medium at 60fps while streaming, yet this kills the system.

OPTIMIZE Please.

I love this game, the concept is amazing and the gameplay is constantly being updated, my only complaints are that the multiplayer is buggy and the maps are quite small, I feel like a larger scale would be a lot more fun but I can't play with the larger maps as it will crash my game and perhaps a better research system that is less time consuming and is larger with more units. I do understand that this is a lot to ask for and the devs are trying their best and the game is already super fun, I just want to give some constructive critisism on the off chance one of the devs see this.

Edit: I wanted to add that this game is constantly updated

First time i've requested a refund. Tried this game with a couple friends that enjoy it. I did not. Pacing is awful, in those 2 hours I didn't manage to exit early game, Easy ai's were curb stomping my ass not giving me a chance to even start to learn the game, and the game crashed.

This is a very awesome concept in a genre that really lack nowadays. I would wait for further developments however as the game still has that early access jank.

Awesome game though.

RagingTeaPot
RagingTeaPot

The mechanics are there but the game is in desperate need of polish, or even basic UX design. All of the 2D graphics need an overall, i.e. resource icons, buttons, dialog's and so on. I thought the FPS mode was useless until I needed it to survive a land based attack on my base, and I assume there will be some further enhancements on this in the future to make it more useful.

That all being said the game has really good depth that takes some time to get use to, not least of all because it lacks any kind of tutorial. The ship combat is satisfying and it harks back to old skool RTS where you need to stack your units but equally they need to be well equipped as the enemy AI is brutal and unforgiving. I keep running into little gems of key tactical knowledge as I move forward in my understanding of the game.

I mirror what other reviewers have said, if you're a serious RTS and space fan, then this game is pretty awesome as long as you can get past the clearly early access nature of the title. Haven't played multiplayer yet but am looking forward to that once I actually beat the AI.

This game's come a long way since it's first Early Access release. I would highly recommend this, especially if you have friends to play with. While resource intensive, something that has improved since it's first release, it is a fun romp in a galaxy of corporate warfare. Well, solar system but it still counts. Genuinely good game, and the developer works hard with it.

Pros:
-Vibrant and colourful art style, with some really cool models.
-The 3 factions currently available are extremely interesting and give a good variety in the game play loop.
-The trading mechanics are simple and easy to learn, but also give a feeling of varied play. Industrial goods based game-play is a viable option, where the goods can bring in a decent amount of resources for your faction.
-Watching an orbital bombardment on your base is a wonderful thing, and helps alleviate the sting of death.

Cons:
-Resource intensive, seriously it can make modern extremely capable systems sweat at times.
-The new update, that being the Asteroids content release, is still somewhat bare bones for the factions. Research is limited for them, and there are some factions that are just far more useful.
-There are numerous bugs, mostly involving your own AI, but these are mostly annoyances instead of game breaking.
-Trading, while viable, can be hit or miss. A simple mistake can cripple you for long periods of time, and this can certainly happen because of the AI accidentally nuking the trader when they warp in system.
-The ground combat needs more uses other than station and home base raiding, tanks are really only useful in defending and attacking home stations.

All in all, a solid game and one I'd recommend if you want to burn some time in a fun corporate style space game.

I'm addicted to this game, from just exploring your own base and the abandoned space stations in first person and looking out the windows into space and seeing the planets. Gorgeous!

Then when you look outside and see a space battle over your base and the bullets and missiles and lasers are raining down as your defenses shoot into the sky in every direction as ships explode! It's like being in a movie.

Invading enemy bases and fighting your way through the hallways to get the final door before their CEO. Hacking the door as you hear your ships absolutely bombard them suppressing their defenses. The rush! Finally then hacking through their defenses and killing the CEO, it's so satisfying.

absolutely fantastic game, while its a little undeveloped in some minor areas (as its one dev, who is a legend btw) the core gameplay, concept and systems are nothing short of exquisite. it may take some time to get use to how it works but my god when a massive battle begins its absolute chaos...my only way to describe it is the opening of star wars: revenge of the sith.

early in development but really promising. Still playable as is by the way, and actually really fun!

A very fun strategy game where you can select the number of planets and rival companies to fight against. Building spacecraft to destroy enemy fleets and using ground troops to raid bases and assassinate enemy CEOs. Highly recommend this game to people who like to spend hours playing in one sitting

Needs a lot of work to make the gameplay engaging but the concept is solid, so I'm hopeful.

a rare find for a game! Everything feels well balanced! From the 3 factions with completely different play-styles to the ships and ground units. nothing feels more overpowered then their other faction counterparts! This game is amazing, with a ton of content especially for technically not even being in version 1.0 yet. I DONT SAY THIS OFTEN AS MOST OF MY REVIEWS ARE "NOT RECOMMENDED" THIS HAS MY FULL SUPPORT! TRY THIS ONE ! ! !

i do believe this game has a great idea in mind and it is fun to play but i do think the game should add more content as in having more planets and adding more things to the tech tree to keep people in the games longer and having a way to craft station cores to expand

The concepts of this game are beyond what ive wanted in a rts but the implementation of the concept needs alot of work. The ships can fit basically lasers and shields with some bought improvements and the research tree is fairly small so it completes in a short time leaving just the fight which for some is good but others want a long marathon style climb up the tech latter. The interface to finding the ships on the systems not galaxy map is challenged an arrow button jumping you from ship to ship would help or something similar. The cargo ship transport lines are very confused and micro managing trade routes if possible is very hard to figure out and the cargo ships have minds of their own which hurts when your money and resources are dependent on them and the specific mats they bring as science corp anyway. The limit of ships to 100 and droids to 100 is beyond annoying if you want to expand past your home asteroid as if anyone hits any area with a full attack wave of a hundred you cant possibly secure an expanded region when you are limited to a certain amount yourself so your forces will always be outnumbered and the defenses of buildings are not enough either. The ideas of the game are good and if it ever comes together in full vision i think it will be a massively big hit. Still it is a war shooter for those that like that sort of thing but for a marathon rts player we just like alot more. I commend the work the people must have gone through to get the game this far though as its not bad for certain groups of gamers but to be big you have to appeal to a huge group of gamers.

Throughout the last 30 years of game design, developers have managed to nail together game feel for quite a few genres.
It takes someone who is more than a good game developer to reinvent the wheel in terms of game feel for a new genre (FPS/RTS). That's why, in my opinion, FPS/RTS games all have terrible game feel.
As you see I refunded the game so this title is no exception to my opinion.
There are many glaring issues with this title. The clunky almost Empyrion-esque UI / interaction with the game, the terrible gunplay, and very apparent dust trail where the devs are furiously trying to catch up to the features they need to add to make this into a proper game.
Stations cannot have more power added onto them so expansionism is questionably even possible at best. The movement controls are definitely linear in terms of game feel. Multiplayer set-up was also confusing as you couldn't set player count like you would in many other games. It was implied that you were in the game by default and that adding x2 other players would be adding a total of three player slots per game. The economic options are also rather simplistic - which coming off a supreme commander high - is like a drop off a mountain.

Not to be overly optimistic, but this game is not terrible. It's like a rough unpolished lump of metal with both minor and major issues to combat. That said it is by no means a diamond in the rough (to the developer reading this I am sorry for the harsh words). With a very intense labor of love this could be made into something like Zero-K or Empyrion that has replayability and interesting combat. However without polish, gameplay depth, and a complete dive into fixing the game feel: it won't take off the way any of us hope it will.
There is nothing more annoying than a restaurant critic that cannot cook or a game critic that can't design games on some level so I'm sure this comes across as rather out of line. I'll check back in from time to time, but this needs more work before I can play it.

absolutely fantastic game, i loved the first game and me and my friends played an unhealthy amount of time on it, the new instalment is rough ill give you that but the core gameplay and the RTS/FPS style of the game is what attracts my group, someday id like it to get bigger, e.g ships you build are fleshed out with different compartments like engine room etc so it would be fun to board and capture, all in all hats off the the lone developer who hasnt stopped loving this game from day one and i hope to see them and their friends in a game sometime, keep up the good wor...........actually keep up the AMAZING work.

As broken as it is, I find it strangely fun and extremely challenging. As a slow paced RTS player this game is probably not for me as the AI somehow bum rushes me with like twenty ships due to me being so slow at the game however I find that extremely fun at the same time because it forces me to adapt and evolve from my current play style. I'd recommend this game to any RTS players who are bored of slow time consuming games and play against AI to learn how to play fast paced and precise. It also has three different settings for your company that you can choose from, they really sum up your play style. You can be the industrialization company where you're able to produce mass amounts of resources with huge mining vessels. You can be the science company where you have robots instead of clones and you're ships fire lazers, mining is pretty much automated too. Then you have the spies, where they're ground force is pretty much all cyborgs. I have run into an issue though with the science company where if you mess around with the cargo ships for some reason they dock at the mining station and just, never put the resources back at your space station. Overall, I find this game enjoyable and fun.

Good fun while playing it, though I would be wary of long play sessions as you leave wondering what you've exactly accomplished with all those hours of gameplay.

Perhaps the game needs some kind of reward/mission/story/progression system where each game leads somewhere. Something that when you come back to play it later you feel as if you moved onward as compared to the last time.

That being said the factions feel awesome and different, the AI is good, and the fact that you can win the game like a turtle or a hare and still have a chance of winning either way is very good.

Team is putting in the work and updating the game slowly but surely. Support the game. Run a couple play throughs. Let it sit for a while and then come back and im sure you will not be disappointed. That's what i did and the game has leaped from earlier state. GOOD JOB GUYS

Been sitting on this game for a while. Bought it early, as I predicted the dev has been steadily adding content as he said he would. This is a single dev team and like in his previous iteration of the series, has stuck to his goals and plans.

In it's current state with listed features, still probably not worth the 25 dollar price tag, but it's a fun game and has massive potential if it continues to grow. Pick it up for now if it goes on sale and it will come off as an investment when it's out of EA.
