Super aggravating too many monsters not enough room to move and just all around almost impossible to play without great prior knowledge I have not played this game since childhood and I have to say I am super disappointed at how much better i used to think it was.
Not going to leave a real review since it is an older game and has been reviewed thoroughly enough, so I'll tell a story instead:
I remember this game when I was younger from when I stayed the night at my friend's house and he showed me it and we played it on a laptop with no mouse, but we made it work.
We spent a night playing the game, taking turns playing our characters, it was my first ever real PC game instead of that browser-based stuff so of course this had to be the very first game I bought on Steam. Only time I ever got to play it was at his house, though I never got anywhere, it was just jump in the dungeon and then die, repeat, we didn't know how to play it but we had fun.
That is until I got Traitor's Soul on disc for myself, spent hours playing until I discovered the cheats; game was never the same after that...
Years later, he we are, I grabbed the very first one so I can play them in order, managed to actually finish the story and got all the achievements so on to the next it seems.
I truly missed this gem of a game..
TL;DR - Got all achievements, game is a 10/10 for nostalgia.
babys first dungeon crawler
Played this game on the HP games store on my very first laptop in the early 2000's
this used to be a great game back in the day, i used to play it nonstop when i got home and some of my fondest memories are from this very game, weather it was the nostalgia or lack of optimization after computers grew better for almost two decades the game doesnt preform nearly as well, it's still one of those games ANYONE should play and experience but there will be issues, that being said- here's a apple pie recipe
Ingredients:
1. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2. 1/2 cup white sugar
3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
4. 1/4 cup water
5. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
6. 1 pinch salt
7. 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
8. 1 pastry for double-crust pie
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
2. Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside.
3. Roll out half the pastry to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate; pour in apple slices.
4. Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 (1-inch) wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel. Weave the pastry strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal.
5. Pour butter-sugar mixture over top of pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top crust is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
You kill monsters. then you do it again. then some more. and then as a treat you get to kill monsters
I DIDN'T. EVEN NOTICE I PLAYED FATE FOR SIX HOURS *WHOOPS*
anyways i loved this game as a kid and still love it, i have two characters and they just keep on comin' 👍
Graphics: 3/5

This game is a joke. it takes 15 tears to level up, the economic system is broken so you sell something at 10% of its value and have to pay 10-fold for everything. If you die the consequences are extreme, and because the combat and navigation are so broken you will die often the deeper you go. The game is unplayable in its original state on a steam deck but with some vigorous controller reconfiguration you can get it to work. I played this for the nostalgia and at first liked it but the further along you go like i said the flaws become extremely apparent.
the game is classic and fun. you need to grindset for stats. it can take away time reserved for your family and friends. be careful how much you game. i lost it all
Really fun, easy to follow and figure stuff out. I enjoy how it adheres to the ideologies of the table top RPG's of my youth!
I absolutely love this game. It's very nostalgic for me, as I grew up playing this, but it just has a special place, and I strongly feel that it rises to the top among other Diablo clones. Such an amazing game.
"Diablo for kids" from back before Torchlight. Kinda stripped down, but a satisfying gameplay loop. Torchlight is a bit more polished, but if you've played those to death this is a great next series for low pressure ARPG.
This is an old dungeon crawler that is not Diablo, so it has some charm to it. I also have nostalgia for this game but the game itself is very basic and cold feeling. Its just having numbers go up, having your fingers on the hotkeys for healing, and doing ad-libbed quests such as "Go to (level) and retrieve (random item) from (ridiculously named monster). If you like holding the click button and hoping the good numbers (evasion and accuracy) go your way, you're going to love this. Otherwise, don't bother. The gameplay is too dull and balancing is terrible.
Phenomenal dungeon-crawler RPG. Somehow still holds up 17 years later and just as fun as it was back in the day.
I love so many of the diablo clones out there. What is not to love? Kill twats, get loot, look flashy, win. I enjoy just how ridiculous you can make some of the passed down can get after a handful of generations.
A classic dungeon crawler. You'll easily be finding yourself spending lots of time going through the endless dungeons, defeating new enemies while finding some sweet loot, the gameplay is near endless. While aside from the main aspect there is not much else to do aside from quests and a boss at level 45, you'll still find yourself getting easily addicted at the repetitive but fun gameplay of fate.
So to be honest, this game is nostalgic for me. The other day I couldn't sleep and thought might as well give it another go. In three days i got over 50 hours of game play because it just sucked me in somehow. Maybe its the game or my ADHD, but if you're looking for an old school fun grinder, this is it.
Year was 2006, little me stumbled unto this game in WildTangent Launcher and had no idea what it said because I didn't know English at the time. I played it and fell in love with the game. It had a time limit and couldn't play it anymore so I moved on. 16 years later I find a video about this game again and memories started to flood in and immediately looked into more, got the game and I am having a blast in the past.
TL:DR
Nostalgic, Game Gud, Strongly Recommend if you like Titan Quest and Path of Exile.
This was the first RPG I played when I was a kid on my mom old windows xp computer. I don't know if it still holds up today but it's nostalgic if you played before.
This game is from my childhood so big bias in my review. Then again, seems most reviews on this game are from people who have the same connection to the game.
My mom downloaded this game onto our old boomer ass windows vista family computer way back when. I remember watching her play and then wanting to play it for myself.
It's a fun and simple dungeon crawler. Fish for a few minutes to get big money. Gameplay loop of getting progressively better gear is fun but does get very repetitive.
The game's price drops down to less than a dollar so watch out for that. It is a steal.
Been a favorite since its original release I've dumped hours into this game growing up. Spectacular dungeon crawler with an very interesting inheritance mechanic.
This game brings back a TON of nostalgia and memories. It's still fun to play to this day. I highly recommend, especially if you want to try one of the first RPG/dungeon crawlers.
A game of my golden age childhood even now still functions. No Wild Coins needed now but at the cost of no cheat commands. The game still is displayed on Wild Tangent game store.
This game (and AOE2) practically raised me.
There will never be a more nostalgic game than this for me.
Fate is a self motivated game. If you want to grow and progress, its all up to you. Love this game. Used to play years ago. Go at your own speed. Challenge yourself.
This is a fun and fairly easy dungeon crawler. It has nice graphics and plenty of items to build different kinds of characters for multiple playing styles. Sad that there is no option for multiplayer and the game can get repetitive. Also if you do not progress and find updated gear it can get quite difficult to go deeper into the dungeon.
For me, Fate is the one game in the genre that doesn't feel like another bootleg version of Diablo, instead it brings a lot of fresh elements and a very straightforward reason to justify mass murdering monsters chillin' in the dungeon: Because it is your fate! And if that's not good enough yet:
The most broken items in the game can be obtained by fishing, IN THE VERY TOWN WHERE YOU SPAWN.
Some goofy duck merchant can turn common fodder weapons into cursed god-slaying instruments.
Magic skill is an attribute rather than a class, allowing for CQC self buff shenanigans.
And your little companion can be turned into a giant magical brain.
Isn't it fucking awesome?
This game is a hidden gem from the days old. This masterpiece by Wild Tangent Games has a simple yet deep RPG fighting system and it is fun clearing each level. the biggest bonus to this game, besides your cute pet, is the sence of joy when you tempt fate and fate smiles back at you. this game can make you feel like it is unbeatable. but that is what make it a masterpiece
It's a simple, mechanically solid dungeon crawler, with an incredible amount of randomization, but I've never experienced a single issue with impassable levels. It's also easy to get into with simple controls.
This game is my childhood and I'm so happy Steam had it, as I thought I'd never find it again after the ending of the gaming service, Wildtanget. Super easy to play and it's low graphics are easy to ignore.
As a child during elementary, I played this game every day after school but one day I had to stop after my old PC stopped working but after buying and playing this after over 10 years, I just feel nostalgia coursing through my veins and a big smile formed across my face as I begin to remember the sounds of the NPCs, monsters, and music throughout the game. I thank Wildtangent for making this game and helping form a part of my childhood.
An isometric procedural-generated RPG / dungeon crawler. And it makes sure to put the words "crawl" in dungeon crawler. There isn't much to do between the town itself (of which no buildings can be entered) and the dungeon, where you go and grab stuff.
However, it does quite a competent job at that. This isn't your mother's Skyrim or Oblivion, more like a Diablo
This game just grows on you, it can make you forget about the real world around you as you get enamored by the game
If you prefer playing Solo, you should check into FATE. It's the original game and it will give you a chance to learn the game without too many distractions. I have also played FATE: Undiscovered Realms and advise importing a High Level character into it from FATE. Note: I paid for all of my games.
I have played a number of characters on RunScape for the last 15 years. I also play Diablo II Exp but I'm not a huge fan of their revised edition.
Check out FATE, you might discover a new distraction to everyday life!
Definitely buy this while it's on sale.
Classic dungeon-crawler style. NPC voicelines you'll subconsciously memorize. Fishing that rolls for RNG before calculating RNG. Boss names that will make you laugh.
DON'T make a Charm Monster build btw.
When I was a young I played this game a lot, it was one of the few games my mother did too. Having replied it almost a decade later, with her replaying it also, I can say this is quite a little nostalgic gem. Fate was always one of my favorite characters/mechanics as well, I even got the limited makeship Fate plushie. I don't know if this is a game for newcomers but it has charm
FATE is an old-classic and a personal nostalgic trip to me. My only gripe with it is that it can be a little bit grindy in the later stages, but besides that the gameplay is good. But overall this dungeon-crawler still holds up and is worth getting when it goes on sale.
I spent YEARS trying to find this game after I got 3 free plays on HP Games when I purchased my first laptop, in 2007. Imagine my surprise when I finally did... It is exactly as I remembered it and more.
Great game, well balanced, good dynamics and graphics that taking into consideration how old this game is, stood the test of time.
If you enjoy grinding and dark dungeons, finding the ultimate armor and equipment, risk it all for a chance of a great enchantment for your items and overall good fun with a bit of nostalgic for the classics, then Fate is for you.
I cannot play this game anymore due to it not being compatable with my computer. But this game was my childhood. 10/10 would reccomend
used to play it on the old dinosaur computers and now that i have a newer but equally shitty computer its one of the few i can play LMAO but its very nostalgic so i like it!!
This is the game you remember playing as a kid on the old school computers. It gets even better as you dive deeper into the depths of the dungen. I wish everyone would enjoy this game as much as I am now.
Looking for an adventure RPG?! Well here you go play this old but fun game! I've played it way back when they were coming out my dad starting the gaming first then i followed. play at your own risk level up slaughter monsters have fun and emerge victorious!
Love this game! It was the first video game i ever played and holds a special spot in my heart-I'm pleased it can still hold that spot even after stepping away for almost 15 years-not many games can hold up that well! Well worth the buy, and at least a few hours of your time-the ability to create legacy characters is super fun and you should play on higher difficulties-it's a grind at first but the payoff comes later!
A thoroughly enjoyable dungeon crawler.
they altered the game and took away the cheat console that was built in. not the same game as previously played before steam.
Watch me horde loot as I go Goblin Mode
I loved playing the demo for this as a child
I played this game when I was a young kid and now returning to it at 28 years old I was filled with nostalgia playing it. This game is like your own personal cozy dungeon crawler. I love this game and it can keep you engaged for hours. If you are looking for a solo dungeon crawler fun experience, then there's no reason not to get it.
can easily spend all day fishing
If you couldn't play the game without cheats before, don't buy the game (they removed cheats and you probably suck at it). Get gud.
AMAZING ADORABLE such a good game and many games take inspiration from this game its one of the classics. forever my favorate game i even have the loading screen as a tattoo
I remember playing this game as a kid back when it was still kind of relevant. It definitely has aged and isn't my usual genre but just nostalgias sake it's definitely worth getting on steam. 9/10
10/10 Nostalgic & Addictive
A classic ARPG game. Like everyone else i too played the trial early on in life on random laptops/PC's
Revisiting the full game as an adult i can say this game is just amazing. The developers knew their limits with hardware in the day and did the best job they could've executing their vision for this.
For less than a dollar (on sale) this pickup is a no brainer.
i played it as a kid and coming back to it it's just as fun as i remember
this was my childhood. its amazing no matter the visual quality. 10/10
